It's uncommon for someone to be announced as 'in talks' by main trades like thr , vanityfair, deadline or thewrap to end up not being in the project. Not saying things don't fall through, but it's unlikely that he won't be in the eternals.

He was already typecast as a prince/Romeo and has been branching out from that with Bodyguard and Rocketman but I think he'd made a good edgy, dark Bond - like how the franchise tried to go with Daniel Craig but RM is way fucking hotter. Maybe he'd be better as a Bond villain.

He's kind of all over the place with what he's looking for in a role. He said Bodyguard was a headfuck and he almost quit acting after filming wrapped, but he also said he's tired of playing the good guy. In any case I'm excited to see him in whatever he does next. With every new role he becomes a better actor. I liked Robb Stark but I LOVED David Budd. I didn't even realize who he was when I first started watching Bodyguard.

Between Marvel and future Bodyguard seasons/whatever else he picks up along the way, I imagine he could afford to lose Bond even if the sole reason they wouldn't want him was because of him being with Brandon. But as other people have noted it's going to be a while before they seriously consider someone for the role.

r83 funny you say that because i had the same thought yesterday when I was going through his past work. i didn't see him in anything else other than game of thrones before watching Bodyguard (no interviews, nothing) so I really didn't have any idea of his personality or how he's acted in other roles. and so when I was watching Bodyguard I was hypnotized. And now having seen him in other things and his real personality, I'm even more blown away at how he transforms into each role.

Yes, the first time I saw him was in GoT. I love him in that but didn’t much pay attention to him offscreen, although I did see him in a couple of other shows and movies (Klondike, and that movie he was in with Idris Elba). It wasn’t until Bodyguard that I got really interested and started to stalk him online. That was an intense role.

From Robb Stark to David Budd to John Reid is a pretty amazing transformation. He’s building up a nice resume.

The PR trolls are here. Apparently, Richard has given up on living his life the way he wants and from now on he’s living based on PR. Marketing budgets for all his movies will be spend on creating a PR relationship for him even when he’s a supporting actor.

Richard might not be going for the gay role in the Marvel movie but they will get cookies for casting a gay actor in a leading straight romantic role (though to be more accurate it's a bi man in a same-sex relationship - Jenna was real). After all, that's one of the other big things in casting, gay actors only being called for gay roles when they come out. Richard being bi but in a relationship with a man is actually about as safe as they can get - they get their diversity for that but at the same time have the safety of him also having a history with women. It wasn't like he was blindsided by the question. It's pretty obvious that he and his people talked about how to handle this and they agreed on a soft confirmation. Obviously, he'd rather avoid it entirely, but it's impossible to do that while still living a normal life with his boyfriend. At some point, more people will notice, and more people will talk.

The timing was no accident, either. The promotional tour for Rocketman just ended. If he had come out in any way during the promo, it would have taken media attention away from Taron and the movie itself. This is perfect timing. Rocketman is out in theaters and he has presumably landed a starring role in The Eternals, which is being marketed as Marvel's big gay-friendly film. If the cast has several gay/bi actors, some playing gay roles and some playing straight roles, that's good PR for them if they're serious in their effort to be more inclusive.

I had a feeling this was coming. For those asking about Rocketman’s box office: it was tracking at a $40 million opening. That is what the studio projected. It will likely open between $23-25 million. Maybe even lower. It’s underperforming but I assumed that would happen given it’s bad release date, R rating and competition this weekend from two films that overperformed.

It will make a profit though, not a bomb. But I think they were hoping for better with the solids reviews.
