Ru’s popularity is extraordinarily unlikely, and that is part of what makes him special. I respect what he’s accomplished. But he’s achieved an Oprah savior reputation with his fans, and he encourages it by spouting off bromides about self love and “putting good energy out into the universe” or what have you. I think that he believes his hype.

I think what bothers certain elements of the trans community is that they can’t shut Ru down. He also pushes back. A lot of people have gotten used to calling someone out on twitter and get an apology for their ignorance. Ru doesn’t do that. In his WTF interview he said the people criticizing him probably aren’t even trans. That they’re like 4 people living in their parents basements looking for things to complain about. When his network tried to apologize for him he wouldn’t have it. His show keeps going on. He’s as popular as he ever was. The mainstream media has not adopted the stance that he’s the enemy of the LGBT. Our culture is very polarized right now. It’s confusing when someone won’t adhere to every single part of the official progressive agenda and yet they can’t really accuse him of being a Nazi.
