The cop show Hunter with Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer lasted until 1991. By 1991, Stepfanie Kramer had left the show after the sixth season. However, Darlanne Fluegel [RIP] and Lauren Lane were replacements as female cops. By the end of seventh season, Hunter was cancelled. What made the first six seasons of Hunter special?
Fred Dryer's huge fucking bulge in tight '80s jeans.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 27, 2019 6:33 PM |
Yup. Fred in his tight jeans made me tune in every week.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 27, 2019 6:37 PM |
I used to watch for the buldge. I love bulgy jeans.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 27, 2019 6:51 PM |
Fred Dryer's cock had such a prominent role in the show that it should have had it's own billing.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 27, 2019 6:53 PM |
Stepfanie Kramer did a great job playing Sgt. Dee Dee McCall for six seasons. The woman was good looking back in the day.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 27, 2019 6:56 PM |
Much preferred its replacement - Sisters (1991-1996).

R8 = the wrong kind of gay
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 27, 2019 8:31 PM |
His face was hideous, but that bulge and body!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 27, 2019 8:32 PM |
You forget that it was revived in 2003 but only lasted three episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 27, 2019 8:35 PM |
Didn’t the opening credits include a brief shot of him in the shower? Is that burned into my gay brain? Or did I dream that?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 27, 2019 8:37 PM |
I agree with you, r7
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 27, 2019 8:44 PM |
Stepfanie Kramer left the show to focus on her singing career. She recorded two albums. Nothing to write home about.

Bump.

I’m with R10 - the bulge and the body got my attention big time, but from the neck up, he lost me.

Kramer was pissed that they wanted to do another rape episode and she said it was purely for ratings.
She was also pissed that Dryer had taken control of the show and was getting multiple paychecks as an actor, writer, producer and director while she herself wasn't getting any raises even though the ratings were good.
The show went to shit when she left and was thankfully cancelled.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 29, 2019 1:04 PM |
Is Dryer a gay?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 29, 2019 1:11 PM |
I know he's a right winger R20, for whatever that's worth.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 29, 2019 1:12 PM |
He was almost Sam Malone
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 29, 2019 1:15 PM |
Oddly enough he played a gay character on Cheers.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 29, 2019 1:18 PM |
I always confuse Fred Dryer with Joe Penny, who was also dark, hairy and handsome and who WAS supposedly gay.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 29, 2019 2:07 PM |
Jesus with meat like that, there's really no way to hide it, is there? He could have worn looser jeans or hiked that cock up in some briefs, but it's obvious that a costuming decision was made to allow that schlong to make its presence known.
How much sex does a man like Dryer get to reflect upon now that he's in his 70s? First during his NFL days and later in LA, he must have been the proverbial "chick magnet". I doubt he ever slept alone when he was in the mood to get laid.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 29, 2019 2:14 PM |
I think they are both gay and they both were hot and hairy.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 29, 2019 2:14 PM |
r23 No, he played a womanizer.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 29, 2019 2:29 PM |
R19, I remember the same thing. Kramer had already done a rape episode and portrayed the victim role very realistically and emotionally. When they wanted her to do another one, she said she wouldn't do it.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 29, 2019 2:32 PM |
He's still the only NFL player to record 2 safeties in one game.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 29, 2019 4:30 PM |
LOVED this show when I was a kid. It was above-average for an 80s cop show, and pretty campy at times. Especially when they let Stepfanie "sing."
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 29, 2019 4:38 PM |
I agree R32. It was ALWAYS embarrassing when they let the actors sing on shows that weren't musical.

Fred Dryer as the world's least convincing "heavy metal punker guy".

WTF was Stepfanie thinking, giving up a network paycheck for a music career? She had to be in her mid-30s by then, what kind of a music career did she think she was going to have.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 29, 2019 9:35 PM |
R37 I think she left because the show had become much more of a boy's club and her once tough character was reduced to playing a heroin needing rescue by Dryer. The music career was just a cover.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 29, 2019 9:38 PM |
She hated Dryer.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 30, 2019 12:59 AM |
John Amos was on Hunter for a couple of seasons.

I loved Stepfanie Kramer's two cop "uniforms" on the show - shoulder-padded 80s power suits w/ stiletto heels, or skin-tight stone-washed 80s jeans with stiletto heels. She was always running all over Los Angeles in one of those two outfits. They never let her wear anything else.

Hunter Fun Video, Season Three - Love, Hate, and Sporty James
Garrett Morris played Sporty James.

My mom hated this show and that Kramer was always running around in jeans and stilettos. Looks wise Kramer resembles DL icon, Patricia Heaton. I remember Kramer sang during a Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Poor Darlanne Fluegel passed away at 64 from early onset Alzheimers, I believe she was a top model back in the day...

by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 2, 2019 7:46 PM |
Wow, R47, she really looks (and sounds) a lot like Patty Heaton...I wonder if she's resentful of her career

As was stated upthread, the final casting for Sam and Diane on Cheers came down to Dryer and Ted Danson for Sam and Shelley Long and Julia Duffy for Diane, though I think that it was already understood that it would be either Danson and Long or Dryer and Duffy, no mix of the two pairings. The show would've been so much different as neither Duffy or Dryer project a modicum of vulnerability as performers, a quality that was essential to the success of Danson and Long's portrayals and ultimately the success of the show.

Fred was a wank-favorite for me at the time, too. His crotch bulges were positively obscene, I'm surprised they got that past the censors. But even without that, I would've thought he was hot.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 2, 2019 9:16 PM |
Julia Duffy had zero acting range. Bubble-brained, "let them eat cake," debutante, that's it. That's why she's been z-list since the early 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 2, 2019 9:23 PM |
I thought Stepfanie looked a lot like Suzanne Pleshette. She sure was a hottie, I'm surprised she didn't have more success.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 2, 2019 9:35 PM |
Stepfanie also appeared on some of the cornball Bob Hope specials in the 80s. God, those were awful.

Stepfanie, Lynda Carter, Bob Hope, Gloria Loring and Vanna White (of all people) sing "Easter Parade,"

I love that episode posted at R58, “The Cradle Will Rock”, guest starring none other than Chaka Khan.

Fred certainly had a mouth watering bulge. He couldn’t have owned any underwear back then. You know damn well his bulge was the talk of that set. He used to do some hosting on the Playboy channel I believe. Never married. No kids. Six foot six with a lean, chiseled 240 lb. body. I’m sure his bed was never cold.
