Because it's high time DL had a Jared Harris thread. Let's discuss this fine actor.
Haven't seen him in much. He was suitably creepy on Fringe, and is very good on The Expanse. Based on those two roles I can't tell if he has much range, but he's good at what he does.

I love, love, love him! The Terror made me his fan for life. His performance was shattering.
He seems like a down to earth, good humored gent in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 23, 2019 10:42 AM |
Him and Stellan Skasgaard are masterful in Chernobyl.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 23, 2019 10:48 AM |
He was super in Mad Men and did my favorite depiction of Andy Warhol (and certainly looked more like him than any other actor who’s played Warhol).
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 23, 2019 11:32 AM |
‘Fuck the cunt of Russia.’ He was hilarious in Happiness.

very mis cast
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 23, 2019 12:12 PM |
And I how could I forget the strong impression he made in season 1 of The Crown. I kept wishing they could go back and remake The King's Speech with Jared instead of Colin Firth.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 23, 2019 12:49 PM |
Little known fact: Jared Harris played Henry VIII in the first screen adaptation of 'The Other Boleyn Girl' on BBC. The production was awful, but I felt that he made one of the more convincing (and attractive) Henrys I've seen (and I've seen a LOT.)

Hot man.

Um....no? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read.
[quote] Hot man.
Yes! In a weird sort of way.....yes.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 23, 2019 1:05 PM |
He's an excellent actor. So good, that it's hard to evaluate his work as sometimes you don't even notice that he's the actor you are watching. He just disappears into a character.
That stated, these days I just can't cozy up to anyone named "Jared."
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 23, 2019 1:05 PM |
Excellent in The Terror. He made Crozier drying out so absolutely touching. Like R2 said, it made me a fan for life.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 23, 2019 1:08 PM |
Loved him in Mad Men and The Crown. There’s something very elegant about him.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 23, 2019 1:10 PM |
I just noticed that he brought Adam Nagaitis along with him from The Terror to Chernobyl. Both are hot!

He was great in DUMMY.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 23, 2019 1:58 PM |
He's in Dummy? Fuck, no one talks about that movie. I remember watching it when I was young and slightly obsessed with Adrian Brody. Haven't seen it in over a decade. I remember Milla Jovovich being really good in it.

He inherited some of Richard's looks and acting talent. Jared grew up in England, but graduated from Duke.
Richard as King Arthur:

I love Dummy, but I actually thought he gave the worst performance in the film. He's very mannered. Very stagey. And very unattractive. Maybe he'd be good as The Elephant Man in a very large theatre. His dad was a good actor.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 23, 2019 4:18 PM |
According to IMDB Jared's nickname is Hot Buns!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 24, 2019 4:10 AM |
Also married twice and childless. On DL that automatically makes him gay.

[quote] On DL that automatically makes him gay.
But, we do not want him to be gay. Blech.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 24, 2019 5:19 AM |
Well, if he doesn't want to be simply known as his father's son, I have granted his wish.
Loved him on Mad Men. I've seen him and liked him in lots of things over the years. Saw that old, terrible "Other Boleyn Girl" in which he was, as described, an excellent Henry (and that production was still better than the Johansen/Black Swan bad accent, wooden acting, dull-off) and until this minute I had no idea that he was Richard Harris' son. His father had a touch of magic and Jared's no slouch. Good eyes.

He’s been consistently great in pretty much everything I’ve seen. Mad Men, Crown, Chernobyl. The one thing I think he’s sort of off the reservation on is The Expanse. His accent is cuhrazy.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 24, 2019 1:48 PM |
I had no idea he was Richard Harris's son. And that woman in his Instagram photo is way too hot for him; I hope he appreciates that fact.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 24, 2019 2:01 PM |
Perhaps, r36, she appreciates him beyond the shallowness that typifies someone like you.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 24, 2019 2:15 PM |
Maybe, R37. Or maybe she just likes money.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 24, 2019 3:27 PM |
He was great as Captain Mike in Benjamin Buttons.
His character in Mad Men was SO pathetic (he played it so well), that it was hard to find him likable. But, he did an amazing job.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 24, 2019 3:52 PM |
Fantastic actor. I like him miles better than his screamy overacting drunk father, who, I will admit was a fantastic Dumbledore.

The the fans who haven't watched 'The Terror' yet -- it's now on Hulu.

My mum didn't like him in 'The Crown' because she said he wasn't handsome enough. I've tried to convince her of how great he is, but she is permanently let down now.

He is spectacular in the 2nd Sherlock Holmes movie, Game of Shadows. His scenes with Robert Downy Jr are perfection.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 1, 2019 11:04 AM |
Jared is the better actor but I prefer his brother Jamie (Turn, Kingdom) because he plays stock baddies well.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 1, 2019 11:06 AM |
Only know him from “Mad Men”, where he made everyone else look like an amateur. No idea that Richard Harris was his father!
He’s a terrific actor, but I find his looks repulsive.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 1, 2019 11:11 AM |
He's such a down to earth nice guy. I did background/extra work on Pompeii filmed in Toronto and he was the only main cast member who's sit down with the extras and have lunch /dinner...he didn't care about hierarchy. I will never forget that....he was one cool dude
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 18, 2019 3:05 AM |
I'm surprised and didn't know Richard Harris was his father. Wow. RH was a fantastic actor, I remember him Camelot and A Man called Horse. He was an eloquent talented actor and ran in the same crowd as Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole -- and those were great actors. Now I see where Harris gets his talent.
I hope they finally give Harris an award like the Emmy. He's gone unnoticed for so long because he disappears into his characters. He may not be the most handsome guy but he's talented and consistently gives excellent performances.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 18, 2019 3:36 AM |
Oooh, R55, what other stories can you tell us from that set? I totally forgot Jared was in that movie. Now I understand why Kit Harington owes him money for drinks.

I didn't realize at first that was him playing the ship captain with Brad Pitt in Benjamin Buttons, he does have range
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 18, 2019 5:32 AM |
I guess I am jaded after seeing so many cliffhangers and things that are supposed to shock that not much does. But I literally gasped when his father beat him with his cane on Mad Men.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 18, 2019 5:33 AM |
No spoilers please but how scary is The Terror? I like suspense but I don't want to watch anything too terribly frightening because I like to watch stuff before bed.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 18, 2019 5:37 AM |
R62. It's not scary like a horror movie with jump scares and imagery that will give you nightmares afterward. It's more a sense of growing dread and desperation that will induce anxiety attacks while you watch it.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 18, 2019 12:07 PM |
R35, thank you. I just binged all three seasons of The Expanse and some of the accents drove me nuts. Whats with the "belters" all speaking english like Asian (and to be more specific, Chinese) ESL students?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | June 18, 2019 12:39 PM |
He’s a terrific and underrated actor.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 18, 2019 12:45 PM |
R64, the idea is that humans have been in the belt long enough for their language to diverge and a pidgin to evolve.
ISTR reading that the show consulted with a linguist to make Belter a believable pidgin/creole. Apparently the writers of the books hadn't put that much thought into it.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 18, 2019 1:58 PM |
R64, it's not apparent from the series but in the books Martians are east Asians who speak with a drawl.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 18, 2019 2:36 PM |
Thanks but that doesn't explain why Gunnie (sp?), a Martian, speaks with an Aussie accent.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 19, 2019 12:04 AM |
Because the TV series doesn't follow the books to a T and Gunnie is a Samoan IRL and probably can't do accents.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 19, 2019 3:20 AM |
It's a shonde that he never won the Emmy for Layne Price on Mad Men.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 19, 2019 4:13 AM |
I was angry he didn't win an Emmy for The Terror. I'm hoping he finally gets it for Chernobyl.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | June 19, 2019 4:29 AM |
r63 thanks for the explanation. I guess if I made it through Chernobyl and The Handmaid's Tale type of dread I will be okay. I just am the type who will never watch the Saw movies, no interest in that kind of horror.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 19, 2019 7:10 AM |
I looked at his Instagram and he looks passionate with his wife and like kind of a cool guy. My crush for him has grown.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 19, 2019 7:11 AM |
R71, if the Emmys do not nominate him and Stellan Skarsgard for Chernobyl, it would be a crime.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 19, 2019 12:59 PM |
It was already a crime that he wasn't nominated (and the winner) for The Terror. I hope by now they realize their error and nominate for Chernobyl by way of apology.

R75 100% agree!

I liked him on Mad Men punching that little bitch Pete Campbell
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 19, 2019 6:36 PM |
I was surprised at how much The Terror was ignored. I was expecting Emmy nods for soundtrack or costuming at least, but it got nothing. Three or four of the actors probably deserved a nomination as well. They didn't get any major award noms, not even a SAG.
Chernobyl will get Limited Series Emmy nom for sure. Harris absolutely deserves leading actor as well.
I'd like to see Stellan and Emily get supporting nominations, but who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 19, 2019 10:27 PM |
I was there with you, R79. Tobias Menzies also deserved a win. He and Jared's scene on their trek back from the cairn broke my heart. It was so beautifully done.
I also loved seeing Layne Price punching out Peter Campbell in that glorious episode. What a great season that was. Another vote here for his Andy Warhol being the best version, and I also really liked him in Sylvia.
