See how important federal judges are? This is why I'm so worried about all the new ones who have been appointed under Trump. They might not have ruled this way

Deutsche zBank is mart enough to know the end of this presidency is near. They are going to be torn apart so people are just trying to get out of jail.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 22, 2019 10:21 PM |
will Deutsche Bank end up going under? I mean it's been involved in so much scandal. The question is WHY. Why did they help Russians launder money? Why did they keep loaning Trump money even though he had awful credit and was known not to pay back anything?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2019 10:23 PM |
But the decision is sure to be appealed. Do they wait?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 22, 2019 10:30 PM |
I understand that Deutsche Bank is in Germany, but why they even have any kinds of records of their shady dealings is beyond me. You'd think they have some fake transactions cover up the real criminal activity. I mean, they should be experts with that if they are doing this for such a very long time.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 22, 2019 10:33 PM |
You obviously don’t know Germans very well, R15. They are nothing if not thorough, even when it comes to the bad stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 22, 2019 10:40 PM |
R15- That's why I don't trust them to turn over real documents. They say they will, but what's to stop them from creating fake documents that make all of Trump's transactions look legitimate?

If they fail to turn over the real records, you can bet someone will release them and tarnish their horrible reputation even further.
They have the most to gain by coming clean and getting in line to be repaid the money fat Donnie owes them.
Unless they figure pooty will get his panties in a was if they do.
Somehow, I get the feeling that it's turning into every rat for himself and unless you're throwing someone under the bus, you will get thrown under the bus.

People forget....one of the earliest things Sessions did, was to reduce the amount of the fine DB owed from being prosecuted for money laundering.....he reduced from something like 690 million to something trivial...like 10 million. I am taking a trip up to DC in the next week or two to visit my former co-workers and friends. My main "source" is going to do her best to make it. She is very nervous about sharing things over text or phone call because she worked for a long serving, recently retired, House Dem. She is working on getting on the pundit circuit. If she shows up, I will likely have some great scoop. I have been writing down things I want to ask like about La Senatrice. I want her to spill completely what she has heard. I should still get good stuff from the others. After all, they spilled about Aaron Schock to me.
Pres Bone Spurs is afraid of Nancy. She has him off his game. She is walking a careful line ( or so he thinks) and that unnerves him.

Deutsche Bank interacts with other banks internationally, and must comply with banking laws wherever they transact business. If they falsify records and get caught, multiple financial institutions could refuse to honor their revenue transfers and they could face hefty penalties and their officials could face prosecutions. The problem is not so much the character of their clients, but if they knowingly broke laws during the flow of money.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 22, 2019 11:36 PM |
yes I think Pelosi took an important step today. She finally BRANDED Trump. He uses branding for everything and it's effective. Short and simple words work best with the public. Pelosi finally started using "cover-up". That is a branding that will stick to Trump. it's not some long drawn out, nuanced line that will go over idiots' heads or that lazy people will skip over. "Cover-up" makes you notice. Good work Nancy. If Democrats are to turn more of the public on to impeaching they must keep branding Trump like this.

And then will Putin bring it all crashing down?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 23, 2019 12:02 AM |
Pelosi should have started impeachment proceedings MONTHS ago. It doesn't matter that the Senate won't convict; it matter that the hearing are publicly televised, that the corruption is aired for the world to see and that these compromised Republicans are forced to take a career-ruing vote after the American public knows how evil this Administration has been.
The gambit that impeachment will hurt Dems' chances in 2020 is ludicrous; this is a major reason why they were elected in the mid-terms. If Pelosi doesn't impeach, the U.S. electorate will rightly see Democrats as toothless wimps and we probably won't even hold onto the House.
Stop talking about Nancy likes she's some master chess player. She's not. She's a politician refusing to do the right and moral thing because she's afraid it might backfire.
Until she moves to impeach, she's as complicit as any of Trump's cabal of criminals.

It's the woman who is calm and collected and able to think strategically and actually think that maybe what I do or say today might affect how things work out tomorrow. It's like you couldn't think of a better test case to blow misogyny out of the water.

I was trapped in one of the downtown high rises when this occurred. The entire financial / retail district / international shipping ports were suddenly frozen. Dead. Looking down to the streets from 40 stories above the chaos taking place below, people panicked, streaming out of buildings into the streets. Traffic signals, dead; people running everywhere, police cars and fire engines blocking main intersections, etc.
Yet the cause of the outage was reported as 'human error.'
Sure.

I would feel a lot more hopeful about the outcome of future grid attacks if we had a *scientist* in charge of the Department of Energy instead of a moron, fratboy, fascist who, when pressed, could not remember the name of the department he now heads and, also, considered it unimportant enough as to be abolished for the sake of lower taxes for multi-millionaires.

Agree with posters upthread. Got to hand it to Pelosi.
The other complaints about Trump mostly have occurred [bold] after [/bold] he’s pretty much done something awful (criticizing a Gold Star family, etc.). Too late. He moves on.
Nancy branded him as the “Cover Up con even as he was planning to tell more people to withhold documents and not testify. He can’t do it now without almost everyone asking “what’s he trying to cover up”?
That, and the courts unsealing documents revealing his other, umm, shortcomings. No wonder he’s going bonkers.
All Hail Pelosi!

Up thread someone mentioned Tulsi Gabbard as someone connected heavy to Russia. I agree. She is running for president to stir shit up. Hopefully, she'll be done before she starts. I recently drove through Iowa on I-80 and about half way through the state there is a large, lone sign sitting on a hill that says "Tulsi." It's fitting but a bit sad. Almost looks a bit homemade.

Impeachment now feels good and is probably, in normal times, something that would have been done a while ago. We are not in normal times. All you impeachment now-ers don't see the steady stream of shit coming out daily, all the steps places like NY state are taking which will lead to damning evidence coming out. Once impeachment hearings start, if you thought he has gone off the rails NOW, you haven't seen anything yet. He and the GOP will ramp up their horrendous shit, the judges, the policies, the Nazis they will put in positions of power. Instead, let the death by a thousand cuts occur. It is driving him (more) insane and bonkers. It isn't as easy to develop a coherent, cohesive strategy against that. But with impeachment proceedings? Powerful, easy to understand rallying agent he will pummel into the ground with easy.

R45, do you mean ”hypernormalisation”, the term used by Curtis to describe the Russian psyops movement of organized chaos overseen by Putin strategist Vladimir Surkov? This is the destabilization of political systems by making people question their own reality through planned riots, setting groups against each other etc. — Wikipedia used to have a great bit in Surkov’s but “someone” has scrubbed it.

If Nancy's strategy is to make poor Donald lose what's left of his tiny little mind, she's doing a damn good job. I expect things are just going to get worse; He seems on the verge of something very, very bad. When she said "I pray for him and I pray for our country" Wow! That was very effective. She is almost gas lighting his big ass. Oh this is delightful to watch-just so long as he is out of office before he does even more harm to our country. He is bad. David Cay Johnson has a wonderfully scary book-about 2 years old now- It's Even Worse Than You Think. Why the media isn't talking about how bad and long lasting some of his policies are is sad.

Yes, that grid shutdown in Seattle was a test. And I would bet money that traitor is trying to get his hands on military info regarding AI so he can pass it along.
Putin seems determined to develop an AI to wreak as much chaos as possible with the minimal effort on his part.
Problem is, he has no money and no talent and none of his buddies are going to spring for this shit when they could have a yacht and some hookers instead.
So Putin is going to try anything to get his hands on either IP, military secrets or get sanctions relief in the hopes he can catch up to the US and China.
I'd bet fat Donnie would gladly turn that shit over if he knew WTF he was doing.
But he's so goddamned obtuse he has no idea how to get the info and his cabinet secretaries are just as fucking dumb as he is.

by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 23, 2019 5:57 AM |
Without official investigations, with testifying witnesses, how will a case be made for impeachment and conviction? If the Democrats don't first get these people to testify on the record and just jump to impeachment, the only official investigation will be that of the Senate Repugs. Trump wants to be impeached because he knows that's the case. He wants this all moved to the Senate under McConnell instead of in the House under Pelosi. Those of you clamoring for a quick impeachment vote don't seem to understand this fact. What you are clamoring for is to put McConnell in charge of the investigation instead of Pelosi.

What do you think the chance is that the reason Mueller can't testify yet is that the counter-intelligence investigation will be wrapping up in early June? The DoJ just agreed to give Schiff a bunch of evidence from the counter-intelligence part of Mueller's investigation, an investigation that is not yet complete and is not covered in the Mueller Report. I think Mueller is still working on this part with the FBI and other national security agencies which is why he hasn't left the DoJ yet. All speculation but it feels like something is coming along this line and the Mueller is playing a part.

South Carolina has two "bachelor" Senators, though Ihe other one is much lower profile and much less flamboyant, and has a higher approval rating as a black Republican.
SC is notorious for having closeted Republican politicians. Remember the former Lt. Governor as a recent, but former, CNN pundit?
All those in the state that keep up with politics in SC figure "Miss" Lindzey is closeted . Republicans joke about it, and still vote for him, but not necessarily enthusiastically. Graham survived earlier primary challenges because any registered voter can vote in either party's primary, but not both on primary election day. Prior, Graham relied on more moderate voters rather than those voting for the more extreme candidates on the right. That will not happen this year. He has Trump all behind him.
The Democrats may have two candidates running for the nomination, both black, and Harrison being the frontrunner. He has not held an elected government office before, but has strong connections to the DNC. He was an aide to Clyburn.
Lindsey has among the largest campaign war chests in the country, with huge PAC money that's been controversial. He will be very difficult to beat.
Democrats are outnumbered in the state, and black voter turnout is not particularly dependable. That noted, if Democrats can trend 5% to 6% better, Graham can be unseated.
SC media has not been tough on Graham.

I think this is coming to a conclusion very soon. Here is my thought. The only way out of this for Trump is the Nixon Plan i.e. to resign and in exchange receive a pardon for him and his family. Pence would be more than happy to facilitate this approach - especially since it would stop investigations that will significantly damage republicans in general. Trump and others have seen 2020 polling which shows him and the republican party losing both the presidency and the senate. If that happens, he is totally screwed as he will be indicted the minute the new president is sworn in. His bargaining power diminishes the closer we get to the election and the more it become evident that he is going to lose - with or without help from Russia. If he stays much longer, Pence will be left with rubble and will have no chance to put things on firm footing before 2020. Pence would want at least a year or year and a half to cement his position as president and to try to win 2020. He will have to ride out a significant backlash after he pardons Trump and family. We're a year and a half out from 2020 right about now. Other scenarios aren't good for the republicans. With all the investigations, things are only going to get worse for them. Trump will continue to act irrationally and the evidence of their complacency will be made public. The tide isn't going to change. The only way out is for Trump to do a Nixon and do it soon. Wondering if any of them are seeing this. The only other way out is outright suspension of the constitution and delaying the election.

[quote] Trump will continue to act irrationally and the evidence of [GOP] complacency will be made public
do you mean the evidence supporting the reasons of their complacency will be made public? I'm not meaning to nitpick on semantics, it seems to me that the GOP is being complacent, or accommodating, as far as Hair Furor's antics go, because in their minds they have more to lose by beginning to turn on him now: witness repercussions from Rep. Justin Amash's statement of considering impeachment. They're not afraid to be on "the wrong side of history" maybe because they don't see much future left, or because they're afraid of what will happen to them if they break ranks.
Evidence supporting the reasons could be release of the RNC server hacked emails, receipts of bribery, incriminating photos... juicy stuff.
I'm curious to know who's both likely to have the evidence (i.e. kompromat), and to release the evidence to change public opinion.

The only way Trump will resign is when a) Putin lets him and b) when he can frame it in a way that he can serve the US better by leaving the White House and having his own TV station selling his MAGA hats and Trump steaks from there to his Deplorable viewership which I think is also his retirement idea to preserve his brand and *gag* legacy.

R137 In Nixon's case, after the House Judiciary Committee voted to impeach, a group of high ranking Senators, including Senator Goldwater, went to Nixon and told him it is over. Nixon understood, and resigned.
In Trump's case, are McConnell, Miz Lindsey, Grassley, McCarthy, etc., going to visit Trump and persuade him to resign? Will Trump even listen? And these Republican leaders defend and support Trump at every turn, knowing, but not publicly admitting, crimes and constitutional violations are being committed. It is "party first" mentality and protecting their power and financial assets.
What you say could happen, even faster than may be thought. But Trump is not showing mental stability, and such will not be easy. Trump has an authoritarian mindset, and listens to people such as Fox News pundits, Rush Limbaugh, and Stephen Miller. If he could get away with decrees and control all federal law enforcement to retain and illegally grow control, he will. A third of the electorate will support whatever alarming and irrational act he undertakes.

My view is that George's beef with DJT has an origin of being personal, and it involves the nature of DJT's relationship with Kellyanne in a speculative or non-public way. Plus, he doesn't want to harm business for his elite law firm and the social and organizational circles in which he participates. Giving him added credit, he disdains the reckless behavior and disrespect for the law that is observed from the WH. Maybe, in part, he provides an outlet for Kellyanne when it will be needed.

Which brings me to a question. Do we know which Republican Congressmen are also Eagle Scouts.

None of them take their oaths of office seriously, I was wondering about their Scouting oaths.

I’m talking running in the primaries, getting the nomination, and being elected—even if he’s impeached and removed? So many scenarios flood my mind about how he will scheme and scheme again to be president, so he can pardon his friends and continue to ignore the rule of law. And I see the Republican Party backing him, even if a few Republican Senators are swayed to remove him.

I am starting to lean towards Mueller not necessarily wanting to play it by the books but not wanting to topple a GOP president. He pulled a few too many punches during his investigation and now claiming not wanting to appear political when asked to tell the truth makes me think he wants things to stay status quo and not end the presidency - even though Trump is basically ending the presidency as we know it.

I'm a bit unsettled by the power that Trump is giving Barr to declassification of the materials leading up to the the origin of the investigation. The declassification has to be complete. We know folks like Storkz, Page, Brennen, McCabe and Comey all basically said, "Damn, look at the evidence that Trump is working with the Russians. We have to know more. Someone like that can't be president." What we haven't seen is what they were looking at that made them make such statements. There is a lot more evidence than the Steel Dossier out there. What were our allies saying about Trump and Russia? At some point, one of them is going to break - especially if they are being charged by Barr and finally say, we saw Trump communicating back and forth with Putin or we saw Jared paying Russians millions of dollars during the campaign. If I were anyone of the above and somehow the DOJ starts investigating me or starts indicting me, I'd spill every classified detail I knew even though as a former member, I'm still sworn to secrecy. If the DOJ starts going after their own on a witch hunt, then that agreement to keep classified info secret is gone.

Is it possible that by pushing all the news of the day into this one thread people who don't read this thread because it's so massive won't see the news stories?
It seems there is less news and political discussion on the DL in general, although there is plenty in this thread and a couple of others. I wonder if some of that can be attributed to everything getting jammed into this one, huge, blazingly fast moving thread. All the stories just whiz by although they would, normally, have merited their own threads.
This is still a Gay Gossip and POLITICS site and the Mueller investigation ended two months ago.

Trump is initiating a lot of "unprecedented actions" in the past six to 8 months. His behavior is more extreme than ever. A lot of people, especially pundits say this indicates how desperate he is and that "the noose is tightening." These are some of the same people who urged us to "wait until the Mueller report is turned in..." The fact is Trump is the same now as he was in 2016. He has not changed. He is just completely unleashed. No restraints. If anything this is symptomatic of overconfidence. he is just as dangerous today as he was two years ago. He is simply more open. The Media needs to stop reporting every hiccup as if it's significant. I'm tired of the anecdotal bullshit. He needs to go. He is a danger to national security. If Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham continue to block, they need to be removed. At this point we don't need any more evidence. We don't need a damned thing to cite him for abuse of power, obstruction of justice and possibly conspiring with a foreign adversary to commit fraud and interfere with our PResidential election. The plan has to focus on removal. And that includes members of the Senate and the House who might be part of this filth.

The whole country will require treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder when they are gone. Everyone but the 27% hardcore deplorable cockroach population. And to think that when trump is gone even they will benefit by the order and sanity Democrats will finally restore.

I don't think any one expected an entire political party to succumb to breath-taking corruption and greed. We've allowed oligarchs to have too much control. I understand people get frustrated with the Dems, esp NY reps who have a constituency of Wall Street and fat cats but this is no time for false equivalency. The damage done to this country is 99-1 at the hands of the GOP.
This is a good reminder to never trust conservatives. I get some gays are "conservative" but I wonder wtf that means in their minds. I think many of them are contrarians and just don't want to be Dems because "all gays are expected to be" or whatever BS they tell themselves. Conservatism is cancerous. It serves very little purpose expect it lives in platitudes and a world that will never exist. Conservatives the world over are bad actors and cause pain and harm.

by Anonymous | reply 318 | May 25, 2019 5:56 AM |
With Trump there is NEVER a quiet 3 day holiday. We get so swamped by scandalized news items that the real news almost disappear in that stream of news items. I believe that is a coordinated effort by the GOP and Trump who is happy to provide distraction while the GOP puts their agents in place to fuck the US even more.
Call me crazy, but I believe the GOP (and their 1% supporters) the world, as we know it, is going to end and that's why they don't give a fuck about hiding their greed and agenda anymore, because they believe there's "no tomorrow". What they do right now is like what the common folk do at Black Friday: Run into the store and grab whatever they can. They all play for time to get some more stuff and make sure they get quick access to more stuff (like the final resources of earth?) and have a quick exit.

WHY ARE WE ALLOWING HISTORY TO REPEAT ITSELF ?
by Anonymous | reply 329 | May 25, 2019 3:15 PM |
I agree, R329. I think I put a lot of responsibility for our "allowing" this on the Media, because they can set the public agenda and influence Congress and the public more than any other force out here. They keep treating this like business as usual. They approach Trump as a temporary bump in the road and at some vague future point we will get back to "normal." They are either blind, ignorant, or weak and corrupted. They are chiefly responsible for normalizing Trump. We get anecdotal reports of his latest outrage and his latest policy pronouncements, and everything is treated with the same level of "excitement" ....for want of a better word. So Trump declaring yet another emergency, and Trump calling Pelosi or Warren names gets the same emphasis. We're becoming desensitized when in reality all of us, including the Media ought to be running around as if our hair were on fire. Because it is. There is not nearly enough outrage out here. And because of the way the Media plays it, a lot of sheeple don't see the dangers of sharing intelligence, or weapons technology, or anything else with foreign governments who are not our allies and in many cases are our adversaries. If the Media pounded away at how evil and dangerous Putin is, a lot more people would get it. Instead we have allowed Trump's side t o frame the discussion, peddle lies, foment division and perpetuate the myth that there a re significant numbers of people who agree. The Media talks about the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, and covers the declared candidates as if it's politics as usual when it isn't. Far from it.

Trump has managed to take down the head of the FBI twice-McCabe and Comey and seems he's set his sights on Wray and he's going after the CIA now. There seems to be no stopping him. He is going after Clinton still. He says she belongs in jail. He's digging up all kinds of dirt on Biden. He's out of control-call me a Mary but he's so crazy and nobody is stopping him-if anything, he's being enabled-that things are scary. I admit I don't have the answers but Mueller is chickenshit if he doesn't publicly testify. And soon. The Democrats have already lost valuable time by letting Trump and Barr keep saying "no collusion no obstruction" I believe that we will eventually come to the knowledge there was conspiracy and obstruction.
As was said upthread, I need PTSD treatment. After all this is said and done, will we ever think the same way -in truth , justice and the American way. Not that we have thought like since a few years after WW11. I firmly believe that Trump may be stupid but he is also a true narcissistic psychopath and may have senile dementia or dementia secondary to syphilis.

The big honking truth that the media is afraid to say is that the whole Republican Party is deranged, has been for decades. Has absolutely nothing to offer the part of the country that isn't super rich, and never will. They need that Both Sides Do It narrative to keep going, and it's completely untrue. The Democratic Party has a lot of faults and divisions, but actually does see real problems and tries to come up with solutions for those problems. The Republican Party sees only one problem: the Rich aren't Rich Enough.
Mitch McConnell is as evil as Trump. He's just quieter about it and actually has knowledge and skills and competence.

He is using all the power of the federal government, the Department of Justice, the CIA, the FBI and out Defense Intelligence networks to investigate his political opponents. He is selling our missile technology and armaments to the Saudis. BTW Pelosi's daughter said she doesn't even drink so that edited video idea is even dumber. the Democrats need to get back to hammering Trump with the "cover-up" label. She successfully tagged Trump with "cover-up" so I hope they don't blow it by forgetting about that. Keep the label on him.

That's the one thing , R370, that Trump is brilliant at. He's able to change the narrative and turn it into his benefit. Trump is not intellectually intelligent but he's good at getting attention, creating a narrative and changing/distracting from narratives he doesn't like. Those are his only strengths.
The last 2 days the media is not talking about Trump's attempts to cover up all investigations and the release of pertinent information to both Congress and the public. If you've noticed, they're now focused on Trump vs. Pelosi, rather than what Pelosi said. They're creating a false equivalence. On Tuesday and most of Wednesday, Trump was caught scrambling after he got tagged with the "cover up" label. Thursday to now it's all Trump vs. Pelosi. The media is always going to fuck up but the Democrats need to keep talking about Trump covering shit up. They need to remind the viewers of this every time they appear on tv from now on. Drill it in to viewer's minds

The media still treat the Mueller report as something that hasn't really settled anything because one sides disagrees. They endlessly repeat how one side doesn't see obstruction or collusion so nothing is settled. Even with Rep Amash coming out saying HE actually read the report and most of his colleagues didn't as, "Well, it is only one out of how many?" and leave it at that as if THEY can't read and haven't read.

IMHO it's important to point out that Trump and his associates can only control the narrative of his followers. They are the ones who cling on the fake news of the fake Pelosi clip. The rest knows that it's a pathetic attempt to smear Pelosi. You know, like the infamous "Puppet? No, you're the puppet!" retort from Trump at one of the debates.

Trump will gamble on another win in 2020. With the help of the media and a massive smear campaign against Hillary Clinton (that the new left was part of), gerrymandering, voter fraud and very likely hacked voting machines Trump slipped through in 2016.
The same shit will happen again. This fight is far from over and so far it seems democrats can't get any legislation passed that will make voting fairer and safer. Republicans know they won't win a single election anymore if the voting process is fair and just, that's why they fight dirty.

Why did the Democrats make whatever agreement they made with Trump's lawyers to hold off on getting the financial documents that they subpoenaed and that the court just affirmed that they have the absolute right to have? WTF is wrong with them?
by Anonymous | reply 388 | May 26, 2019 7:51 AM |
R388, I agree. If the documents are part of another investigation, or are sealed trial documents that might be a reason to hold off. Other than that there is no reason to negotiate with those fuckers.
I'd love for Mueller to testify. Of course my fantasy is that Mueller comes in, and condemns Trump and clearly his criminality. I'd love to hear Mueller say, "He conspired with our enemies, he obstructed justice at least 10 times, and he is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors. Fry him!" But that won't happen. And I've been saying for months and months that we do not need a Mueller report.
All the temporizing, "Wait for the Mueller report..." was bullshit. It was a flawed strategy. Trump has committed crimes, and continues to, he has abused power, has compromised our national security, and personally enriched himself and his allies with irresponsible tariff and trade decisions, weakened our relationships with NATO allies, and endangered the economic health and stability, and the environmental health and stability of our country. There is enough legitimate grounds to impeach Trump RIGHT NOW without Mueller.
I think Pelosi is doing the right things. All these investigations are preliminary to drawing up articles of impeachment. The battlelines are very transparent: If Trump successfully goads the Democratic House to impeach him, he can play victim, and use it to rally his base. Why? Because the Senate will not act. He can say it was a partisan witch hunt. Trump was planning to use the whole Impeachment thing as a political strategy against the Democrats to try to win back the House. Nancy is not stupid.
Where the Dems have fucked up is not taking these defiant assholes like Mnuchin, and Barr and holding them in contempt and sanctioning, fining them, detaining them if necessary. The Dems need to respond faster and stop giving them second chances. They don't get to negotiate. When the House says, "We want the full, unredacted report..." and Barr has the audacity the arrogance to say, Well, I won't give you that, but here is what I will give you...." They ought to kick his ass. He doesn't get to set the terms.
And BTW, those who believe Trump is not very smart are wrong. He lacks the fluency with political language. Washington is not his natural environment. If you look at the dregs of society that flit around him at Mar-a-lago, that's more his milieu. Shady characters like mobsters, oligarchs, guys like Sater, and Derapaska, etc. But he possesses a low cunning, and is street smart in all the ways he needs to be, to have survived this long. One thing he has perfected iis to appear to be impulsive and spontaneous when in fact he is very calculating.

And who exactly will believe that beyond his Deplorables and FOX News viewing base after the House Impeachment hearings and investigation showed all the receipts?
The fact is that Impeachment is a no confidence vote in Trump that becomes official record while The Senate's non-conviction becomes official record as well. And after the general public knows what a criminal traitor Trump is - thanks to the impeachment investigation and hearings - they will see the GOP as co-conspiritors of Trump's crimes. And the Democratic Party can use that very narrative for the 2020 election.
The House recently passed the Equality Act that will very likely die in the Senate. Why did the House even bother if it all hinges upon The Senate going along? Doesn't this make the House look bad, too if the Senate doesn't approve? Will it DIVIDE the country, too?

Low information voters. All they will hear is the media say that Trump was found not guilty by the Senate. They, of course, won't go into the fact that it was political on the part of the corrupt Repugs in the Senate or how it would be an absolute end to actual democracy in America. They'll just report that he's NOT GUILTY and let it stand at that. A whole lot of Americans will know nothing else. Plus, of course, the media will report every single lying tweet by Trump proclaiming his innocence and the Democrats' witchhunt, etc.

Look. If you impeach him now, you'll fail to remove him because you will not be able to get 20 Republicans in the Senate even if McConnell doesn't block a vote which he will, and Graham as chair of Judiciary blocks anything resembling cooperation. So Impeachment is cast as a partisan political move by Dems, and it failed in the Senate. Then what? BEcause if he gets re-elected in 2021, and we have a Democratic majority in both Houses, do you go back and try again? That's a real bad look. It's a bad approach. YOU'd lose the public. So you do not initiate actual impeachment proceedings now. YOU continue to conduct hearings and investigate. You build. If the gods are kind he's defeated in 2020, and the marshals are there to cuff him, and charge him. And the State of NY is also waiting in line for him and his kids. Your big problem is Uncle Joe who, if he is elected will probably want to make peace and unite the country so he pardons Trump. It could happen. Impeachment investigation and hearing will get all the info out for the general public to digest. The Republican Senate refusing to convict will make them look criminal as well. A fact the Democracts should use in the 2020 election.
The majority of the US is disgusted by Trump already. The Deplorables will not be enough to make it look like Trump has a chance when, say, the farmers, even with the financial aid, will not vote for him. Same goes for the miners he screwed over. He didn't build the wall. The conservative voters will very likely stay at home, because the Republican Party did nothing except giving tax cuts to the 1% and appointing judges. If impeachment were to pass in the House of Representatives, the matter would be sent over to the Senate. There the Senators would conduct a trial, in which the head of the Supreme Court (Roberts) would act as the presiding judge. The Senate would be required to hear evidence, swear an oath to use due diligence in their deliberation. Each side could present evidence and also mount a defense. Afterwards, the Senate is supposed to deliberate in private. A trial in the Senate can only convict or acquit. A 2/3rds majority must vote to convict. Otherwise, the person who has been impeached by the House will be said to be acquitted. If McConnell instructs his Republican majority not to convict, odds are that none will break rank. That's the importance of getting good evidence out to the American public, because if events are egregious enough, they can put pressure on their Senators.
by Anonymous | reply 433 | May 26, 2019 7:57 PM |
Again, I think once the House holds hearings and puts the evidence out there on tv, more and more of the public will go along with impeachment. It will be the repubs who look partisan and awful not convicting/removing him in the Senate, not the House Dems who impeach him

Thank you R425. You are spot on and we all need to read what you wrote and re-read it until it sinks in. Because he thinks he's winning, he is filled with false confidence and keeps making misstep after misstep that his enablers have to keep cleaning up. And the more that keeps happening, the more his insanity is made public and the people who are on the fence about him will finally get a clue and abandon him. And maybe some Senate and House Republicans, too.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | May 26, 2019 8:24 PM |
I honestly do think there are probably enough Republicans who would vote to convict, should they actually get evidence in front of the American people. At a certain point, supporting him would be untenable.
by Anonymous | reply 436 | May 26, 2019 8:42 PM |
They will not vote to convict mere months before an election. It's not happening. No Republican will support anything against Trump next year, or this year. In 2021, they might. But we are going to elect Dems in 2020 so no worries, right?
Do you really think Schumer and the other Dem leadership aren't working on those senators. Do you think McConnell has them in a lock box? The Democratic leadership knows they do not have support in the Senate. If they did Nancy would move so fast your head would spin.
We need to keep working on the media and working in our states to make sure we are involved in flipping the legislature governors, U.S. Se nators and House members. If you live in a"safe" state then help your neighbors. LOL!

Investigate the crap out of him. Get all the dirt out. (It’s probably way worse than what we already know- he’s trying so very, very hard to squelch the money laundering investigations, for example?)
So long as the dirt flows, Trump will be goading / begging Pelosi for formal IMPEACHMENT charges so that he can have 1/2 of the Senate formally step forward and say the Dem’s evidence is insufficient to convict: Trump’s acquittal.
OTOH, if the true dirt flows [italic] without [/italic] formal impeachment, the Senate doesn’t get to consider it (unless they have their own independent hearings, and Misses Lindsay and McTurtle - Heavens to Mergatroyd - don’t want that!).
Instead Trump (and FOX) will turn themselves blue declaring the certified documents, bank records and witnesses are all fake news.

The issue as I see it is that for many Americans the Mueller report is old business. Barr and Trump said Mueller found no collusion no obstruction. For most people who work 8 hours a day, that 's the bottom line. The longer it takes to get any tax returns or to get Mueller up to testify the more this becomes old news and like the Democrats are trying to smear the Pres. and his fat little weasel friend.
Watching Joy Reid this a.m. (OK I know she isn't so popular here -for good reason) but she was getting agitated talking with Congressman Ro Khanna and finally she said "I just feel like something really bad is going to happen soon" and dammit I've been feeling like that since Muellers report landed with a thud.
I spent time pinning hopes on Avenatti and Stormy-they sure as hell got the ball rolling on Cohen. I remember Avenatti talking about SARS bank reports, Cohens lies, Fat Donnie lying and the raid on Cohens office. Now Avenatti is in prison and Donnie is still in WH. Then Mueller was the great hope-Barr took care of that.
Where I don't agree with Nancy-like that matters to anybody but me- is time is wasting. And she seems to think Donnie wants to be impeached-I don't see where she is getting that. He's fighting like hell to keep Congress from getting his info. She posits that if impeachment inquiry starts it will serve to get him reelected. That isn't what I believe. His base is there for him as others have said. If a person ever needed impeachment it's the boil on the butt of humanity named Trumpweasel. He's only getting bolder and worse and worse. IMO, something very bad will happen and soon.
Where are the SDNY and the other investigations? Not a word on those. I don't believe or trust nearly anyone anymore. Besides which, when people like Tribe say its past time for impeachment, I believe it. Love Nancy but in the end she is very political. I do believe she will start impeachment hearings soon. I pray she does. Just had to vent. No one here to discuss this with-Trump people around me. They don't like or respect Trump but they think he's being harassed. Fuck.

Impeach him right now, have a vote in the House late summer/early fall and the Dems have shot their wad. It will all be old news by the end of the year.
Investigate throughout the summer, maybe admit late winter early/spring that impeachment is now necessary and vital to our democracy and it will dominate the news cycle up to and after the conventions next year.
Win/win!

The Repugs know that open investigations with public testimony from the witnesses will bury Trump. That's why they are doing anything they can to block that.
Does anyone know the time table once Trump is impeached by the House? Is the Senate required to have the trial within some specified period of time? If not, that's a way McConnell could fuck with it. Maybe the Dems are holding off not only due to their inability to get the witnesses to testify because of the ongoing obstruction by the Repugs but because they are going to hold off until closer to the election knowing what kind of position that puts McConnell in.

They spent so much time and money sucking up to him, and then Trump downplays his concerns about NK's recent missile launch telling them they have nothing to worry about because basically KJU is his friend - someone who has threatened Japan off and on for years. I don't know much about Abe and I understand that he wants to stay in Trump's good graces, but the extent that he bows down to him (probably while playing him) bugs me.

I've felt like audio or video could in fact be coming out..... and that is why Dotard and Fox have been working so hard to push those Doctored Pelosi tapes. A way to get ahead of it and claim nothing we see or hear about Drumpf is real --- just "fake" retaliation for airing the Nancy video. He's tried it before.

Pardon the below link to the Daily Caller, a right wing, Tucker Carlson & Neil Patel publication. The purpose is to show the attacks and projection Trump sychophants and enablers are undertaking as political vendettas, deflections, and false narratives.
The attacks are on the Obama administration, intelligence officials, federal law enforcement, political opponents, involved judges, etc.
Graham, as Senate Judiciary Committee Chairwoman, will do her theatrical, bogus hearings.
The real horror will be Barr drumming up false charges on innocent agents who were doing their job trying to protect the U.S. from Russian intrusion activities.

Re: R472 and R473. Of course (as a Brit) I feel nauseated that Trump + spawn will be visiting and treated to lavish hospitality. (Notable by the way that Trump won't be addressing Parliament, as Obama did - there are a couple of other snubs too, no Philip or William in attendance. Good.)
However the repulsive Trump preens at being the centre of such grand attention, the joke is likely to be on him. He's being humoured to keep the transatlantic alliance healthy, until he's disgraced. The Office, not the man, is being acknowledged. Trump will be a deep dirty stain in history soon enough, and the UK and the US will, thanks to such devoted diplomacy, maintain their good - sometimes special - relationship.
The UK will look like grown-ups for somehow - against all inclination - keeping the alliance civil. You can bet however that one day reports will filter out about how comprehensively ghastly The Royals found The Trumps, with examples which will become notorious. By that time, Trump's disgrace will be globally verified.

Eventually, the outcry and polls became too much even for the Republican Establishment, and Sen. Hugh Scott, one of the last of the "decent" Pennsylvania Republicans (Charlie Dent was the absolute last) led the walk to the Oval Office.

As the mid-terms showed, all the rational ones have come back to OUR side. They only voted for him last time because he was the shiny new object they'd seen on TV for so long. He talked a good game. The only way Putin would not be able to fuck with the election is when 100% of the registered voters not only vote but add their votes in a public database to make sure it wasn't altered. And I don't see that to be ready for the next election.

The foundation for all the corruption we are currently dealing with in Congress, and the White House was laid when the Supreme Court rendered their Citizens United ruling insisting that money was "speech" and constitutionally protected, not limited or prohibited. Even Roberts later admitted this ruling was a mistake. But it opened the flood gates for Dark Money and money from undisclosed sources. The mainstream media saw this potential windfall and began hyping elections and campaigns and are currently the main beneficiaries and they will be the main obstacle towards getting Citizens United overturned.

We need to explode the myth that Trump is so popular. It's my belief that many former Republicans call themselves Independents now, and all that's left, those who self identify as Republicans now are the extremes. He is not popular. He doesn't have broad support at all. But the media insists on perpetuating this myth. No one can afford to sit out this election. No one. And you need to remember your ballot number when you go to vote. In fact, we all need to be supporting all efforts to insure our ballots are secure. I know Eric Holder and Obama were working on a ballot security effort. There are others. That's where pressure needs to be put right now. And force the media to shine a light on it. Our weapon is social media. We can use it to insist the mainstream media do their job.

Statement just released from Mueller's office: He3 did not right up an indictment against Trump prior to turning in his report.
The fucker can send out statements defending Trump (sort of) but the fuckwad won't testify openly to Congress. He gave Trump every benefit in his report. He allowed the SOB to get away with written answers to questions. He ain't going down in history much better than Barr.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | May 28, 2019 2:52 PM |
Concur. When Mueller allowed Trump to provide written answers to select questions, then on, I had reservations about his willingness to be thorough and confrontational. It was a bad precedent. Apparently, DOJ was even then, too cozy with Trump's attorneys and Republican politicians.
Resisting to testify in public looks disturbing on Muller's part, and looks as if he is under Barr's and Trump's influence. It is disappointing.
The House should not back off. Mueller can certainly testify in closed session per any parts that deal with national security matters or investigations still active. Otherwise, make the remainder public.

Michael Wolff makes sensational stuff up which muddies the waters. Mueller would have been a fool to let Wolff "speak" for him.
Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff is back with a sequel to his 2018 bestseller. And in it, he makes an explosive claim about an action special counsel Robert Mueller strongly considered taking against President Donald Trump. But it’s an action that the Mueller team is firmly denying.
According to the Guardian, Wolff claims that Mueller drafted an obstruction of justice indictment against Trump, before ultimately deciding not to proceed with it. The indictment, according to Wolff, would have charged the president with three counts including; witness tampering, witness retaliation, and corruptly influencing a pending proceeding.
The Guardian reports that it viewed documents relating to Wolff’s claim. Yet Mueller spokesman Peter Carr denies the very existence of these documents.
“The documents that you’ve described do not exist,” Carr told the Guardian.
Wolff claims that the draft indictment alleges that Trump began obstructing justice in the first week of his presidency. He wrote that Mueller concluded Trump took “extraordinary lengths… to protect himself from legal scrutiny and accountability, and to undermine the official panels investigating his actions.”
Following the publication of Fire and Fury, Wolff came under heavy criticism for factual errors in the book. He later said he considers himself “barely a journalist,” and believes that his job “has nothing to do with truth.”

I’m really quite over Robert Mueller. He is fucking hiding and owes it to the American people to explain several things about his “report” that he must know at this point is one of the most important documents in American history. We only get little responses from his spokesman occasionally. I want to hear him speak and I want him to answer to the American Public for what he has (and has not) done. I paid your fucking salary, Bob, and I want some answers.

Rosenstein appointed Mueller knowing he would be super cautious and Rosenstein protected the Trump presidency as much as anyone. And the butt weasel is still doing it! I don't count on Mueller for anything. Wish and hope I', misjudging him but so far his actions or lack of speak for themselves.
I also find it very strange that Kim Jong Un would use the exact same phrase that Trump does in calling Biden "low IQ". Low IQ Maxine Waters-remember her? by Anonymous | reply 544 | May 28, 2019 3:48 PM |
Well, I hope it was worth it for Mueller to destroy the reputation he had as a war hero, patriot and man of integrity to cover up for the con-man who is in office. He will forever be remembered for this cowardly act against America. Not for his military record or for being a stand up man of values.

Along with Boris and Svetlana, we also have Randy and Rick, pretending to be gay men but they are really just working to create dissent among Democratic gay men. They want us to get our hopes up and then tragically disappointed.
They want us feeling despair.
And they are some of the most prolific posters in these threads.

Isn’t Mueller all about his supposed sterling reputation and being seen as a Boy Scout / Do-Gooder? Because that’s not how he’s being seen post-report. You’d think he would want to go out as a winner, not part of the Barr cover-up.

Transparent much, R558? Keep trying futilely to sow those seeds of dissent.

The despair army is really out in full force today, eh?

R559, I’m not one of the “dissension trolls.” I’m actually one of the few posters on here who has offered first-hand gossip for several years at this point. I’m legitimately asking why Mueller isn’t defending himself and letting Barr and the DOJ erroneously frame what is in his report.
Are you one of those trolls-accusing-others-of-being-trolls?

Girls, girls... you're both.... trolls!

You're the "My source will vaguely hint at something this weekend when I see her - I promise!" fake insider?
"She will SPILL ALL! Except anything of any importance. And after something actually is spilled by others, I'll claim I was the first to share that exciting scoop!"

We do have someone here who claims to be an insider and who has a source who seems to only "confirm," things after its been posted here first. But I don't know if this is the same person.

Sad that Mueller now seems to be the J D Salinger of politics, when we all long for the Gore Vidal.

Nope, that would be Former Congressional Intern (FCI) who, I believe, actually *has* dropped some good gossip in these threads.
What have you contributed exactly, R563? You are the reason why people with real gossip don’t come to these threads. I have lots of Hill friends and get tidbits now and then that I post here. And it’s not just rehashed bullshit that’s already out there.

I still believe in the integrity of Mueller's investigation and of Mueller himself. I think his testimony will reveal the limitations placed on his mandate as Special Counsel, and I think those limitations will be correctly seen as significant.
The fact that the inquiry did not access financial information presumed to be part of its mandate is seeping into the public discourse. That alone will spur the public toward the consensus opinion that the inquiry's conclusions, while damning in and of themselves, convey the need for further investigation and congressional action. This further investigation might need to be in the form of an impeachment inquiry.

I'm under the impression from what I've read and seen on MSNBC, that Mueller is still involved with cases and that is why he is still low key. Barr is really the guy y'all need to be fucking with. He needs his ass kicked.

What is the rationale for why he didn't go after the Finances? Was it because Dotard warned not to or because Mueller knew it was better to leave it to the States?

The Guardian: Exclusive: Mueller drew up obstruction indictment against Trump, Michael Wolff book claims
by Anonymous | reply 579 | May 28, 2019 5:38 PM |
R573—My guess is conjecture, but I believe the Special Counsel was limited by the fact that the executive branch, via AG Barr's supervision, acting AG Whitaker's supervision, and deputy AG Rosenstein's appointment and supervision, determines the SC's jurisdiction and supervises his investigation.
While the current regulations stipulate the special counsel must report to Congress specific acts of the executive branch's supervision in conjunction with the denial of his requests, we know that Mueller simply declined to make requests he was sure would be denied. It's reasonable to infer that requesting access to certain financial records would be an example of an action Mueller declined to take because of his understanding of the investigation's supervisors and the limitations they imposed. Consequently, the accountability regulations that should have highlighted the actions of the executive branch to limit the investigation failed.

[quote] The Guardian reports that it viewed documents relating to Wolff’s claim. Yet Mueller spokesman Peter Carr denies the very existence of these documents.
[quote]“The documents that you’ve described do not exist,” Carr told the Guardian.
There's a reason they said this instead of "No. That never happened. We never wrote up an obstruction indictment."

“The documents that you’ve described do not exist...because they’ve been shredded.”
by Anonymous | reply 583 | May 28, 2019 6:09 PM |
^Yes! According to a document seen by the Guardian, the first count, under Title 18, United States code, Section 1505, charged the president with corruptly – or by threats of force or threatening communication – influencing, obstructing or impeding a pending proceeding before a department or agency of the United States.

Of course Lindsey Graham won't go on Morning Joe to respond.
He is speaking with the media daily, but only to Fox News and affiliates.
His behavior is not being confronted.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | May 28, 2019 6:28 PM |
And, then there's the fact that we've watched Trump do the exact things listed in the purported indictment. In fact, it's the exact indictment we were all asking, "Where's the fucking indictment about all this obvious shit we've seen him do?".
Mueller wrote it. DoJ quashed it.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | May 28, 2019 6:42 PM |
Wow. The Guardian on Wolff's new book is explosive!
by Anonymous | reply 588 | May 28, 2019 7:07 PM |
I think Barr saw Mueller's (possibly draft version) Obstruction of Justice indictment and basically said, "You can just get rid of that right now. It's not going into your final report."
Another reason that Mueller needs to testify to Congress under oath is to answer questions about the limitations Barr put on what he turned over as a final product. "Were any supporting documents/appendices removed from the final package you had turned over to the DoJ?"
