Lil Nas X gives Billy Ray Cyrus a Maserati after “Old Town Road” hits #1 for Seventh Week

This song is hot rotting garbage. They play it endlessly at work.

Are they lovers? Billy Ray has had plenty of gay rumors and Lil Nas X pings in the OP.

What did Billy give him?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 22, 2019 3:27 PM |
Lil Nas is gay, gay, gay. He used to be part of Nicki Minaj's stan Twitter where he was openly gay and talked regularly about getting fucked and "backing his pussy up" on dicks. He used to send videos of himself jerking off to other guys on Twitter.

by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2019 5:13 PM |
The song isn't great but Billboard created the situation where it has become something more than it is. The executives sitting in NYC and LA, have their idea of who country fans are, but they don't really. Most young country fans are into two kinds of music, country and hip-hop and they enjoying the mixing of the two. Go to any high-school parking lot or college party in the South or rural Midwest, and you will hear nothing but a mixture of the two. And they will not accept being told what to like. It is like when Elvis combined country and R&B defying the separation, and people responded and made him a superstar.
But, the executives want to enforce an outdated separation of the two, that was always artificial, in the past they separated them into hillbilly and race records. Even though they were often singing the same songs, with the same session musicians, released by the same company. In the 1950s, James Brown and Little Jimmy Dickens recorded for the same record company using the same session musicians, and even contributing to each other's records.

R16 You could have said the same thing about Billy Ray in the early 1990s, but he is still around. Maybe Lil Nas will stick around and then force his child on the world.

Why are all these rappers called “lil”???
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 22, 2019 6:59 PM |
R18 I had a classmate in college that was an aspiring rapper, and we were discussing stage names one day, and he told a girl if a rapper has lil in their name, they have a small dick. I'm sure it isn't true, but ever since then it makes me laugh whenever I see a rapper named lil (whatever).
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 22, 2019 7:02 PM |
It's a term of endearment used somewhat ironically, R18.

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 Blind Item #1
It was a newsworthy gift for sure from this A- list rapper/singer to this former A list singer. The thing is though, the record label paid for it along with the company that delivered it in exchange for the publicity they knew would occur.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 26, 2019 3:13 AM |

R44 No, it isn't a Billy Ray cover. Basically, some asswipes at Billboard decided that they wouldn't let the original version be on the country charts, even though it does receive play on country radio. So, Billy Ray went in and did a collaborative remix, fixing the issues that Billboard had, so now Billboard can't say shit, and has to allow it on the country charts.

I hate to say it but I actually think Old Town Road is a pretty cool song. I like the way that the story told by Billy Ray Cyrus's older-sounding more jaded verses contrast with the enthusiasm of Lil Nas X's verses about being new on the scene, and the chorus is catchy.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 31, 2019 5:26 PM |
Time: It seems too strange to be true: an unknown teenager, sleeping on his sister’s floor, whips the nation into a frenzy with a horse song, defeating Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran on the charts and throwing the supposed supremacy of long-established gatekeepers—from the Billboard charts to Nashville radio to major labels—into disarray. Lil Nas X didn’t get here through a random fluke, but through shrewd calculation. He fanned the flames of an online cowboy craze and boosted his reach with a social media fluency, a cunning sense of humor, and a perfectly-chosen saddle partner in Billy Ray Cyrus. And perhaps most importantly, he wrote the song’s undeniably monstrous hook, which is catchier than anything the big pop machine has churned out in recent memory. He’s a new kind of renegade on a new kind of frontier. — A.R.C

I can understand mixing country and rap but who decided to put Billy Rat Cyrus in this song? Why not a current country star? In the early 2000s Nelly and Tim McGraw did a country rap song but that made sense because both of them were popular at the time. Billy Ray Cyrus is some weird old man who accused David Lynch and the devil or destroying his family.

Already, rappers are using "Old Town Road" as a map for insta-fame. Among the top 20 songs currently on SoundCloud's country chart, 13 would've been unequivocally considered rap songs four months ago. (The Billy Ray Cyrus remix and the original "Old Town Road" are still the top two by tens of millions of plays; at No. 3 is Blanco Brown's "The Git Up," a fellow TikTok hit and unabashed country-trap grift.)

Lil Nas X spoke about the backlash to coming out as gay in a BBC interview, Friday.
The “Old Town Road” rapper had hinted about his sexuality earlier in the week in series of Tweets highlighting his lyrics and the artwork on releases of his songs. “I kinda revealed it,” he told the BBC when asked about his sexuality. Pushed on what he had revealed, he replied: “That I’m gay.”
He was asked whether he expected any negative reactions to the news. “Oh, I’m already getting it,” he said. Evidently, it has not phased him. “I used to be that person being negative,” he said. “I’m not angry or anything [about it], because I understand how they just want that reaction.”
Off the back of a triumphant performance of crossover hit “Old Town Road” at the Glastonbury Festival, Lil Nas X was speaking from the more sedate surroundings of the “BBC Breakfast” studios, at one point walking in front of, and blocking the camera on the British pubcaster’s morning news and entertainment show.
He admitted he had considered never coming out, but had a change of heart. “I don’t want to just live my entire life, especially how I got to where I’m at, just not doing what I want to do,” he said. “I’m also, I feel like, opening the doors for more people.”

This week, on the chart dated July 13, Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" celebrates its 14th week atop the Billboard Hot 100, with 13 of those weeks also including featured remix guest Billy Ray Cyrus.
The number 14 is a special one in terms of Hot 100 longevity, as only 10 singles in the chart's 61-year existence have ever spent that many weeks at No. 1. But 16 is the number that marks absolute Billboard history, as only two songs have ever lasted that many weeks on top -- and none have ever stayed longer.

The Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus western rap began its 15th week atop the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart Monday, marking the third-longest run at No. 1 in the list’s six-decade history. Only 1995 Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men hit “One Sweet Day” and 2017 breakout “Despacito” stood at the top longer, each notching 16 weeks.
The viral track also leads a handful of subsidiary Billboard charts: Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs and Songs of the Summer.

Now, speaking with XXL, Lil Wayne has also revealed that he’s getting in on the “Old Town Road” game, explaining that “they” asked him to an “official remix.” He admits that he’s not sure if they’ll use what he came up with, but clips of it having leaked out. At the very least, it sounds like it involves Lil Wayne rapping over an instrumental version of the song. Maybe Lil Nas X is just waiting a few more weeks before dropping another version? That is just good marketing, after all.

Black Gay Man Has the Longest No. 1 in History Michael Love Michael 10m
For weeks, Lil Nas X has made headlines for his unstoppable debut single, "Old Town Road," and its Billy Ray Cyrus remix. Now, it's official: Lil Nas X has cemented his place in the annals of history for having the longest-running no. 1 single in the Billboard Hot 100 chart's history, with 17 consecutive weeks spent on top.
So far, he has managed to rise from TikTok fame to beat his contemporaries, including Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and Billie Eilish, who all released summer singles that failed to dethrone him. By its 13-week run, "Old Town Road" became the longest-running hip hop number one of all time.

At just 20 years old, Lil Nas X has made a huge mark for himself on the Billboard charts with his first single, and one of the chart legends was quick to offer her congratulations, even as he unseated her nearly 24-year-old record.
Taking to Instagram on Monday night after Nas X notched his 17th consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with "Old Town Road," Mariah Carey took to her Instagram page with words of praise for his accomplishment.
Ashanti Hopes Other Musicians Will Follow Lil Nas X Out of the Closet (Exclusive) VIEW STORY "Sending love & congrats to @lilnasx on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!" Carey wrote. "We've been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many."
Released on November 14, 1995, "One Sweet Day" was a powerhouse collaboratin between Carey and Boyz II Men, two of the hottest acts of the era. A monumental smash hit at the time, the song was even performed at Princess Diana's funeral service.

I find funny when people make comments about how crappy is music now, like there were no tons of crappy music in previous decades.
People remember the good ones or the most iconic and forget the rest. There are tons of huge hits of previous decades that didn't pass the test of time either.
What i'm glad is that coming out didn't affect at all at his success, it was huge that someone with only one big hit had the balls to come out. And i'm glad that the song prevented Shawn Mendes (who is exactly the example of the opposite, someone ashamed of himself who do fake relationships for promotion) to get a number one (and Lil Nas did that two times)

Lil Nas X has opened up about his decision to come out as gay last week, explaining he hopes that by going public with his sexuality, he can inspire change in the music world.
"I kind of revealed [it] .... that I am gay," he told the BBC in an interview Friday about his cryptic tweets at the end of Pride Month.
“It’s something that, you know, I was considering never doing, ever. Just taking it to the grave or something," he added. "But I don’t wanna live my entire life — especially how I got to to come out as gay.
"And with all that early success, you felt it was important to make an announcement recently?" asked marketing executive Paul Rivera, referencing Lil Nas' record-breaking run atop the Billboard Hot 100.
But before Lil Nas could properly answer, Hart blurted out, "He said he was gay! So what?" Lil Nas then said he wasn't "forced" to come out, but made the decision to live openly because "growing up [he had been taught] to hate that shit."
"Hate what?" Hart interrupted again. "Hate what?"
"Homosexuality, gay people," Lil Nas explained.
"Why?" asked Hart.
"Come on now," Lil Nas responded.
"Why are you growing up to hate it?" Hart said.
"If you're really from the hood, you know," the rapper said.
Lil Nas went on to say that his decision to come out while experiencing a career high would show that he wasn't doing it for attention, but instead to show fans that his sexuality is not important. Later in the same episode, Hart told Lil Nas that "in no way shape or form should" he have to "defend" himself by coming out and saying, "But guys, this is what I am."
"That's not it," said Hart, who then tried to put himself in the rapper's shoes and offer advice. "It's guys, 'This is what I'm going to do.'"
In December, Hart stepped down as Oscars host after initially refusing to apologize for using the words "fag" and "homo" extensively as insults on social media for years. In one tweet, he had said he would break a doll house over his son's head if he discovered him playing with the toy. In a 2010 stand-up set, he also once said, “One of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay.” Only when he subsequently quit as Oscars host, he "sincerely apologize[d] to the LGBTQ community for [his] insensitive words from [his] past."
But Hart's apparent surprise to learn about anti-gay prejudice from Lil Nas reignited a conversation online about whether he'd truly reckoned with his own past.

Really admirable of him to come out. so mature for his age and he’s barely out of his teens. He’s not even legal to drink. He just maybe a one or two hit wonder but I hope he’s got enough dough so that he’s set for life. He seems to have a good heart and and a good head on his shoulder.

The meteoric (and now sustained) success of Lil Nas X in 2019 is and will forever be inextricably tied to Billboard. It's the key element in his origin story, and it's been recounted hundreds of times now. But quickly: After "Old Town Road" hit No. 19 on the Hot Country Songs chart in March, Billboard removed it, saying it didn't "embrace enough elements of today's country music."
Then something insane happened: "Old Town Road" hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 and stayed there, becoming the longest-running No. 1 in the chart's 60-year history. There were endless remixes. Lil Nas X won his first-ever awards at the VMAs. And now, he's on the cover of Billboard's 2020 Grammy preview issue, seemingly not sweating the colossal expectations a year like 2019 would impose.
"I'm not worried about anything," he says in the interview.

.@LilNasX's "Panini" rises over 50 spots to #1 on the US YouTube songs chart. It dethrones "Old Town Road" after 23 weeks at #1, becoming the first song to do so.

It's such a simplistic, forgettable song. I don't get it.
Even compared to, say, Ginuwine's song "Pony" (which also played on the metaphor of riding horse (i.e. big) cock, and had a video set in a cowboy country-style bar). "Pony" was a very silly song too - but it was far more catchy and melodic.

There are parts of "Old Town Road" that even sound exactly like "Pony". It's like a newer, more simplistic version.

It’s not for you r300. It’s not vulgar.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | October 4, 2019 8:16 PM |
What is not vulgar? "Old Town Road"?
"Ridin' on a tractor / Lean all in my bladder / Cheated on my baby / You can go and ask her / My life is a movie /Bull ridin' and boobies".

I found the song unlistenable. We're at an all-time low for music. Worse than 1981 (Kenny Rogers) and 1987 (Janet Jackson).

Out: The yeehaw agenda cannot be stopped.
On Wednesday, Lil Nas X became the first out gay musician to take home a Country Music Association Award. He and collaborator Billy Ray Cyrus took home the “Musical Event of the Year” trophy for the remix of “Old Town Road,” which spent an unprecedented 20 weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

R319 Well considering the fact that I'm much better looking than gay Gremlin, I don't want any Grammy's, and I'm not even in the entertainment industry the answer is clearly NO. You may be into worshipping shit like this but not me. BRUH. (which is stupid and ghetto btw) Why did my post upset you? That's the real question and issue here. Go make something of your life.
