First hand accounts of entitled, rude, nice and weird celebs from Reddit

[bold] had to break this up into parts as it was too long Part I [/bold]

James Corden - Also a TV set, James Corden is an absolute jack ass, not the funny happy go lucky guy you see on TV.

My favorite James Corden moment was when Jimmy Kimmel won a round of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts by asking Corden to name one camera man in the room right now.

He’s from a town near to my home town and we all knew he was a dick when he started being famous way back when

Steven Seagal - shows up and rejects his stunt double for being too fat (aka, a perfect double for him) and selects a stunt double for himself who was much thinner, in fact it was Star Lord's double for all those movies. Production had to put Star Lord in a fat suit so he would look like Seagal, and he ends up doing 90% of Seagal's scenes, which is a good thing because it turns out Seagal likes to literally punch stunt men during choreographed fights and then taunt them if they wince. Edit: Also, Seagal got in trouble for flirting with underage girls and bringing prostitutes on set.

Tyra Banks - legitimately will fire some people if they look her in the eye when passing in the hallway, mostly interns. Ugh.

Dr Phil - My friend has worked on Dr. Phil for years. He has a no eye contact rule and is apparently one of the nastiest, most self-absorbed people in the industry.

Yes. My old roommate worked on his show and said he was the worst.

Bruce Willis - is a fucking annoying piece of shit. He makes demands, he causes additional problems, the moment when he decided to threaten to walk out after Kevin Smith did some rewrites for Live free or Die Hard. I already knew; yeah you’re a piece of shit.

Faye Dunaway - and I cannot stress this enough... FAYE DUNAWAY. I've had dealings with her personally and can vouch for her entitledness, and nastiness, but my friend who works on movie sets has horror stories.

Extremely demanding, and also picky. She brings her scales with her everywhere and will make anyone catering weigh it up in front of her. She has a no eye contact rule, which must never be disobeyed, and she also yells and screams when things do not go her way.

One time she came into a restaurant I worked at. Waiter came to the table and before he could open his mouth she handed him a measuring cup and said "fill this with chicken salad." He told her "sorry, we don't have any." She responded "of course you do. You love me, you know all my movies" and then she waved him away.

Can't remember how that all resolved in the end, but it was weird.

If this was anyone else I wouldn’t believe you. But yes, that is her 100%. She frequently introduces herself as ‘’THE Faye Dunaway’’ as if that’s supposed to mean something to the average millennial who has to deal with her

[bold] Part II [/bold]

Michael Cera (Arrested Development actor) - I watched so many young musicians come up to him during the Sex Bob-omb tour come up to him to talk about music or gush about how he inspired them, only for him to either brush them off completely, ask them why they’re talking to him, or just have security come take them away. Total dick.

Adele - My moms friend did security for concerts, she always told us about how nice the bands were BUT Adele was a nightmare, her fans started to line up before her concert outside of the Stadium and Adele REFUSED to do sound check because she didn’t want anyone to hear her for “FREE” and you couldn’t look at her when she spoke to you.

Chris fucking O'Donnell - Hands down the worst. This asshole is literally the worst I have seen in the industry. This extremely minor television actor and FORMER model (see: his fatass neck) thinks he is not only talented but divine and will wonder aloud why "lessers" are doing something near him. Chris once complained to production that a slightly overweight security guard was assigned to an area near Catering. Fuck chris o'donnell. Chris, if you're reading this, you are a fucking polesmoker and your neck is fat. Everyone laughs at you when you are not around, especially production.

Demi Lovato - Walked into the hotel and said "oh fuck that I'm not staying here" and slept in her tour bus. AC DC was the nicest band she encountered and the foo fighters!

Helen Hunt - More like Helen Cunt.

David Fincher - He is a a pain to work with and he is beyond eccentric. Did some work as an audio PA (production assistant) for awhile. If anyone wore anything red on his set they were fired on the spot.

Chris Pine

[bold] Part III [/bold]

NICE CELEBS

Rihanna (Duh, everyone knows Rih is a sweetheart)

Keanu(Duh!)

Tom Hanks

Tom Hardy - was lovely. Very down-to-earth and friendly. Would walk by us in the house and always greet us and often talk about the weather and other mundane things. Small talk. His whole entourage was friendly. It was actually quite an enjoyable job, good pay, easy work, nice environment etc.

Laurence Fishburne

Ryan Gosling - is apparently hilarious and lovely.

Bryan Cranston - is also what you’d expect. He’s a super nice guy who acts kind of like a father figure to most people.

Mark Ruffalo - is very normal. Almost like he was walking to another job and got roped into being in a film. - My personal favorite was John Hurt. Amazing! He even showed up to the wrap party for a very small Indy film and talked for 30min before he had to make the rounds.

Jason Segal - Not a movie set, but sister works at a cupcake shop and Jason Segal walked in when the store was empty and quietly started looking at the cupcakes. My sister and her coworker totally knew who he was immediately, but didn’t say anything immediately. He looks up at them over the counter and asks if they sell milk too, and they tell him that they don’t. He doesn’t say anything and just turns around and walks out, so they were kinda bummed, and definitely expected him to be a little more friendly. Two minutes later he walks in carrying a half gallon he picked up from another store down the street, and lifts it over his head and shouts “problem solved!!!” He orders three cupcakes to go with his milk, and takes pictures with both of them. Super nice guy. She met Miranda Cosgrove there too, who was also super nice and took pictures.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian - My mom worked security for Kanye West and she said he was lovely.

I used to be a flight attendant and I worked with a crew from LA to New York. We didn't have anyone too interesting on that flight but I asked who the nicest celebrities were. The entire crew said that was far and away Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Both extremely sweet and fun to talk to. Also the crew said they were both tremendously intelligent and were always fun to talk to for both the crew and the people around them.

by Anonymousreply 2May 21, 2019 11:21 PM

[bold] Part IV [/bold]

Matt Damon ( Ew) - one of the nicest and smartest guys I've ever met. Genuinely such a good person. My first day on set (I'm a nobody) he sought me out and introduced himself as "hi, i'm Matt." Set the tone for who he genuinely is.

Flavor Flav - opened a chicken restaurant in my town. Huge to do about it. Opening night I wait in line in the freezing cold like ya do to get in to try his chicken (chicken review at the end). When I get inside he is running around talking to people and being the Flavor Flav you saw on the celebrity shows. Then he heads to to front of the line and starts shaking hands and taking pictures with people on down the line. He's just about to shake my hand when someone comes up and whispers in his ear. He looks at me and says "hey man, I'm sorry but it's my son's dinner time, I gotta go make his dinner" he shook my hand and apologized again and runs off to the kitchen. Next I saw him he was sitting at a table with his son and was cutting up his food and just being a good dad. 100% nice, cool, personable, and a good dad.

Magic Johnson - Absolute sweetheart. I still cant believe I met him.

Taylor Swift - was nice, but her entourage was, at times, unbearable. They had a holier than thou attitude. And her manager acted like a damn dictator. Taylor stopped to take a picture with some employees from one of the restaurants providing food for the artists. Immediately after, her manager yelled to one of her staff members to go over there and make sure they don't use that photo on anything related to the restaurant (social profiles, website, etc). I get it, you have to protect her likeness as a brand, but you don't have to be a giant bitch about it. There is no need to berate and threaten some part time 19 year old girl serving food.

LL Cool J

Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum - went out of their way just to take some time and thank everyone for being there and genuinely seemed like really nice guys

WEIRD CELEBS

Sylvester Stallone

I have a story I'm telling second hand. This was in a hotel, not a movie set, so sorry for breaking the rules.

Apparently Sylvester Stallone had been angering the cleaning staff because he was leaving shits in the shower. When the manager complained to his "people" about this behavior, his publicist explained that they had to understand that Mr. Stallone was a very busy man.

by Anonymousreply 3May 21, 2019 11:22 PM

Chris O'Donnell is gay?

by Anonymousreply 4May 21, 2019 11:25 PM

Supposedly James Corden was on a Reddit AMA today and got his ass handed to him. I'll try to find it.

by Anonymousreply 5May 21, 2019 11:26 PM

I guess he's kind of a celeb but the best AMA Reddit thread was porn star Billy Glide taking and answering all questions. It was pretty fascinating. Fascinating and filthy. You couldn't look away.

by Anonymousreply 6May 21, 2019 11:26 PM

Oh. Wait. Now I get the thread. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 7May 21, 2019 11:27 PM

Ah, it was yesterday. They took no prisoners.
Remember that time James Corden showed up to a private WGA meeting to advocate for a lower pay grade for late night writers... What was that all about?

This was my fave:
My brother's girlfriend played one of your videos on my YouTube account and now it keeps recommending more of them to me. Do you know how to get it to stop doing that?

by Anonymousreply 8May 21, 2019 11:27 PM

Massive cunt in person, I saw a league of their own filming live, threw multiple tantrums over minor things at the production staff, with him being incredibly rude to them, which made the other regulars seem very awkward like it was usual, between each take the other celebs would be chatting amongst themselves - bantering about, James was glued to his phone. At the end of the filming people got up to go get pictures with James and he massively kicked off shouting at people to go away and to go back to their seats and the few he did let have pictures with he was moody as. Afterwards we went into a "VIP" tent as such for a beer (we were guests of people - anonymity for obviously reasons) and the celebs were going to be joing us, the other celebs came in and spoke with people, James came in for a brief moment, someone asked politely asked for a quick picture, he abruptly said "later" and the fucked off to I'm guessing his changing room for the rest of the night as they didn't get their picture before kick out time.

Seeing him like that made me realise everything you see of his on TV is a complete persona. And really his natural personality is just, a complete self entitled cunt.

Also, Rampart.

What is the thing about not being looked at, there were reports about Hillary Clinton, demanding that secret service and staff not look at her when she was First Lady. Honestly, it would freak me out if no one ever looked at me or had to look at the floor when talking to me. I also, dislike people insisting that people look them in the eye all the time. How about just stop trying to control people like you are a slave master.

by Anonymousreply 10May 21, 2019 11:30 PM

R10 - regarding the whole not looking at a celebrity thing, I *think* I remember reading the following explanation in relation to Barbra Streisand, who also requests that people don't look at her.

A celebrity is known to far more people than they will know themselves. One usually only makes eye contact with people you know, or want to know or as a precursor to some kind of interpersonal interaction. But rarely do you do it with strangers with whom you have no need to be doing it; if a stranger catches your eye, you usually look away.

But if you're famous, the interaction is unequal. Only one of you is a 'stranger'. And having to always acknowledge or return and navigate the gaze of strangers must be distracting, exhausting, time-consuming, and downright weird. As I understand it, this is why famous people request that people who do not need to make eye contact with them refrain from doing so, especially in professional contexts where it is not required.

by Anonymousreply 11May 21, 2019 11:40 PM
Chris O'Donnell is gay?

No he's a "polesmoker" like "fags" and women. *eyeroll*

Good job, on that one, cunt-linking ape of an OP. Why do you fucks have to ruin everything?

by Anonymousreply 12May 21, 2019 11:44 PM

Meh...it's a douchbag because I can move.

by Anonymousreply 13May 21, 2019 11:44 PM

R11 So they are just crazy.

by Anonymousreply 14May 21, 2019 11:46 PM

I say this not to defend the celebrities with the "don't look at me" rule but when I lived in Japan I got so tired of being stared at all day, every day that I started wearing sunglasses everywhere. It is a weird feeling to be stared at all the time. People don't mean to be rude or intrusive but they still do it. I never thought it would bother me, but it did after a while. Hiding your eyes behind sunglasses somehow makes it more bearable. I imagine it's something like that with celebrities.

by Anonymousreply 15May 21, 2019 11:55 PM

R15 I can understand it from the public, but when it is people who are working on a show or set with you, everyday, it just comes across as rude.

by Anonymousreply 16May 21, 2019 11:58 PM

shits in shower? very funny.

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2019 12:01 AM

Did the Chris Pine story get cut off?

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2019 12:13 AM

R11 well that's too bad. No one forced these people to enter show business. Part of being famous is that regular random people will recognize you and might even want to interact with you. These people want all the praise and to hang out in hotspots with other celebs but don't want the negative aspects of fame. Every job has its pros and cons. If celebs don't like being stared at and spoken to by strangers they shouldn't seek fame.

I mean I'm not famous and there are plenty of times I end up in conversations with strangers in public. Sometimes I get stared at too. It's flattering

by Anonymousreply 19May 22, 2019 12:15 AM

The “no eye contact” thing reminds me of Whitney Houston. I was in one of my first management meetings at a certain casino, and we were reminded to tell our staff - avert your eyes if you walk past her. I was young-ish and new, so I boldly spoke out and said that I had worked in Buckingham Palace and we didn’t have that rule for the Queen, so I wasn’t happy to enforce it for a small talent, drug-fucked bitch! We didn’t have to apply the no eye contact rule.

by Anonymousreply 20May 22, 2019 12:25 AM

I understand the no looking thing in all honesty. I'm 6'4 and very good looking, all the girls and guys in school and the gym would STARE at me. I'm pretty self conscious to begin with, so I always wonder if I'm doing something.

by Anonymousreply 21May 22, 2019 12:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 22May 22, 2019 12:39 AM

These must be Brits hating on Corden.

by Anonymousreply 23May 22, 2019 12:44 AM

I wonder what all the late night hosts are like.

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2019 12:45 AM

One of my friends was a top executive with Martha Stewart's company before she went to prison, and he said that she was a nightmare to deal with and almost everyone in the company was terrified of her. She was overly critical about everything. The people working in the head office with her would literally hide out in their offices if she was there, or if they saw her walking down the hall.

They had a crafts room where people would develop crafts for the magazine and TV show. Martha would walk in there often and berate them.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2019 12:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2019 12:47 AM

Chris pine story, please. I am sad to learn he is not nice

by Anonymousreply 27May 22, 2019 12:57 AM

Weren’t there rumors about Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J hooking up?

by Anonymousreply 28May 22, 2019 1:00 AM

I remember Bono talking somewhere about how wearing sunglasses helped with the everyone-staring-at-me thing because it took pressure off of where he should rest his own eyes. Made sense to me--where do you look when everyone is looking at you AND they're noticing where you're looking?

He also said all celebrities smoke because when people are staring at you, you want to keep your hands busy and cigarettes are the easiest way to do that. He was being facetious, but that also made some sense.

I'm the last person to have sympathy for any celebrity whining about something stupid, but being stared at constantly would freak even the sanest, nicest person out.

by Anonymousreply 29May 22, 2019 1:02 AM

When I saw Stevie Nicks at a Q&A after a screening of her IN YOUR DREAMS documentary in Austin in 2013, she looked seriously freaked out about everyone in the audience looking at her, and she could see that they were looking. Her eyes were just darting around and not stopping on anyone's face. This Q&A was where people were pretty close to her, not the one where she's in a comfy chair far from the audience's eyes. Plus, she wasn't wearing those Bono sunglasses that she started wearing in 2013.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2019 1:26 AM

Is Chris Pine still a drunk?

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2019 1:43 AM

Any celeb with a no eye contact rule is a massive cunt.

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2019 1:59 AM

R20, in retrospect, it's so amusing how Whitney was marketed as pop music's sweetheart for a while (in contrast to Madonna's bad girl image). She married Bobby Brown and that changed that a bit. But then she did The Bodyguard soundtrack plus movie and she was untouchable for a while. Then, a few years later, when she got caught with marijuana in Hawaii, things changed almost overnight. Her career went down the toilet and all the stories about drug abuse became public. Her music, for the longest time, was not played a lot. It's amusing because in a twitter/facebook/Instagram era where it seems like everything is public, I'm not sure Clive Davis would be able to get away with that now.

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2019 2:24 AM

Keep it going! More stories!!!

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2019 7:46 AM

As a 6'8" tall person - I wish I could enforce a no eye contact rule in my everyday life. People staring at you constantly makes your nervous and uncomfortable. I'm that douche who now wears sunglasses inside so I'm not making awkward eye contact with people all the time.

by Anonymousreply 35May 22, 2019 10:29 AM

Most of these sound fake and extremely lame...sort of stuff you hear in High School from 13 year olds.

especially the no eye contact bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 36May 22, 2019 10:39 AM

Everyone in London has a “James Cordon is a cunt” story. Mine is him throwing a tantrum over the size of his trailer.

Weirdly the only other person I’ve seen to that was the usually lovely David Tennant, who had a clause in his contract that he had to have the largest trailer (in a low budget indie film with Michael Gambon). He also insisted on a contract clause that he receive first class plane tickets and hotel accommodation for him, his wife and their nine thousand children for any premiere of the film anywhere in the world. And his wife phoned up the production office to scream at them for tweeting a photo of DT on set. Such a super bitch.

On the other hand people do lose their shit about celebrities. Some crazy woman who runs a David Tennant fansite rung the aforementioned production office every day begging for any titbits (“what did he have for lunch?”) and making a big deal out of how his fans relied on her and how important she is.

My partner is a very successful writer but not what either of us would consider a celebrity at all and people lose their god damn minds about it. In the year we’ve been together I’ve counted seven people who have behaved in what I’d consider minority stalker-like behaviour. Including one film producer who gatecrashed the theatre he was working at and hung around for NINE HOURS hoping to meet him, and some fan who shows up to everything he does, hangs around outside waiting to accost him for a selfie and 5 minutes of chat, then tweets claiming he invited her and they spent the entire evening partying together.

by Anonymousreply 39May 22, 2019 11:20 AM

Sorry that should be “minorly” not “minority”; didn’t notice my phone autocorrected.

One gossip item from about a million years ago that I will never forget was that Ben Vereen was a big fan of colonics, and he'd leave shit-covered towels all over the hotel bathroom and sometimes even on the sheets. He did it so often he was politely asked not to go back to several large hotel chains, even in Vegas when he was performing in their theaters.

I remember it because someone on DL said "Are you sure that wasn't Sylvester Stallone?" and I about choked, until I learned about HIS habit of shower poopin'.

by Anonymousreply 42May 22, 2019 11:31 AM
I'm the last person to have sympathy for any celebrity whining about something stupid, but being stared at constantly would freak even the sanest, nicest person out.

The people who get so angry about celebrities not wanting to be stared at are FAR creepier than the celebrities themselves. I guess if you've never seen it in real time (or live somewhere like NYC where people tend to be chill about this kind of thing) I guess you wouldn't know how intrusive and obnoxious it can be, but I've seen some crazy stuff from the general public when a celebrity is around. There are a lot of people who range from inappropriate to actively crazy and no one, not even a celebrity, should be forced to deal with that. And you can't tell just by looking.

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2019 11:43 AM

The Stallone story is literally decades old and it involved his home staff, not a hotel's.

Many of these "stories" are really just recycled old rumors.

I do understand the "no eye contact" rules - it just sounds harsh and haughty to frame it that way - but when you're on set and working it's completely distracting to have so many people trying to engage you and that's what making eye contact is - an attempt to engage you in a personal interaction. Now obviously there are accidental or necessary contacts but let's face it many people on a set do want to engage certain people more than others, i.e. the stars.

by Anonymousreply 44May 22, 2019 1:19 PM

OP started this thread looking for literal cut & pastes from Reddit, R44. I think it's okay if it's drifted to older gossip instead. Far more interesting than OP's suggestion, at any rate.

by Anonymousreply 45May 22, 2019 1:29 PM

Jane Fonda-great fun and sweet, and Ted Turner very down to earth.

Michael T Weiss-sweetheart.

by Anonymousreply 46May 22, 2019 1:39 PM

Stallone is into scat. This is true.

by Anonymousreply 47May 22, 2019 1:44 PM

And his wife, r47? Is she too?

by Anonymousreply 48May 22, 2019 1:45 PM

I'm not trying to justify people who are just jerks all the time but, the lead actors on a set are under a lot of pressure to get the job done so everyone can move on to the next shot. And, when all is said and done it's their face and their career that suffer if the performance isn't good. Despite that it may look easy from the outside it's hard to stay focused when your doing little bits of acting separated by long periods of waiting. The ones who can snap back and forth between acting and hanging with the crew/crowd are impressive - not everyone can do that.

Eye contact. Years ago I was acting in several shows in a theatre festival that takes place in a fairly small town. The festival is a big draw and people travel from all over just to see the shows. The experience gave me a teeeny tiny glimpse into what it would be like to be a real celebrity. People recognized me in stores, stopped my meals in restaurants to ask for autographs etc. It was fun. However, in regular life, when you're walking down the street and a stranger looks at you it's no big thing- just a passing moment. In that situation though it was weird and awkward especially because I'm not by nature a very outgoing, social person. You never knew if they were "recognizing" you or just happened to make eye contact and then if you ignored it you looked rude and standoffish and if you responded and they didn't know or care who you were you looked like an egomaniac or a werido. It was very, very strange and has given me great sympathy for the truly famous.

by Anonymousreply 49May 22, 2019 2:57 PM

Literally anyone can write this stuff online. I'm especially suspicious of the positive things. Reads like a PR exercise.

You can find the actual truth about celebs in less frequented corners of the web, certainly not on Reddit.

by Anonymousreply 50May 22, 2019 3:36 PM

Regarding no eye contact rule, I get it. Especially if the actor has emotional scenes and need to focus on that and not look anyone etc

by Anonymousreply 51May 22, 2019 4:01 PM

R43, exactly. People who say "they asked for it!" when talking about things like celebrities being stared at don't appreciate either how unsettling it is or how aggressive fans (and even non-fans) can be about it. I don't think anyone can really predict what it's going to feel like until they are in that situation.

by Anonymousreply 52May 22, 2019 4:03 PM

In slight defense of David Tennant, sometimes a cheap productions (a previous one to yours) will cause actors to demand every perk be followed to the letter.

On the eye contact, some actors are running lines in their heads and eye contact can be distracting.

Alex Trebek is a jerk. Pat Sajak (regardless of how you feel about his politics) is great. Bill Macy, Henry Winkler, Natalie Morales, Jeff Garlin, and Ryan Hansen are genuine.

Least favorite celebrities are: Connie Britton, Rob Lowe, and Nathan Fillion. Also, anyone in a main cast aged 25 or so thinks that this business is easy and is an utter terror.

by Anonymousreply 53May 22, 2019 4:04 PM

I've witnessed fans chasing actors around -Whoopi Goldberg up the escalators of Neiman Marcus BH; paparazzi chasing actors around- on Robertson falling out of cars and running after them; and fans approaching the actors when they're eating or shopping. Famous people instinctively avoid eye contact, because people think that they want to engage with them.

Although I must say that Ozzy Osbourne is a delight- he'll look everyone straight in the eyes and smile at them.

by Anonymousreply 54May 22, 2019 4:13 PM

You'd think these people would realize you can't tell that people are staring at you if you don't look at them. I do it all the fucking time.

by Anonymousreply 55May 22, 2019 4:27 PM

R47 , not that I know if. This was pre 1990. I’m talking Stallone late 70’s to 1990.

by Anonymousreply 56May 22, 2019 4:29 PM

Michelle Kwan was at a diner style eatery ages ago...after she imploded at the 2002 Winter Games. With her boyfriend...didn’t like the meatloaf she ordered and demanded that they not only take it back, but comp her meal. They did and even fixed her a fancy dessert. But she was rather curt and rude to the waitress.

This was on a website called Bitter Waitress. Don’t know if it’s still around...

by Anonymousreply 57May 22, 2019 4:31 PM

There is a difference between looking at someone and staring. In most of these instances they tell staff to not look at the "star" even when just passing them in a hallway, such as Dr. Phil and Tyra Banks. It isn't "don't sit around staring" at the person. No one should be stared at.

It is one reason, I have more respect for Country Music and Rap stars. Both, seem to be more accessible to fans and crew, and they seem to appreciate that they are where they are because of the fans. Ultimately, it doesn't matter how talented or beautiful you are, your fame and career is owed to your fans, if you are a star. There are many talented people who never manage to become stars, because the public doesn't respond to them.

R60 Sounds fake, though there were rumors of LL Cool J being a tranny chaser before he got married. That I could see happening more.

by Anonymousreply 62May 22, 2019 5:06 PM

In the case of Hillary Clinton, she was doing what many First Couples before her have done. I have a friend who is in the Secret Service, and he told me that when guarding the President or First Lady, it is better not to have any real, personal contact with them. He says it makes it easier to do their job, since no personal feelings get in the way on either side.

by Anonymousreply 63May 22, 2019 5:06 PM

But if you work backstage at a tv show and you meet the host, who is also your boss, in the corridor, what are you going to do? Ignore them? It's super rude just to ignore your boss and superiors and would be something negative in most work places. I don't mean staring, but if I meet the CEO of my company I always nod and say good morning. Treating him like air would be a bad career move.

But Dr Phil and Tyra don't see themselves as the employers or the boss, just the supah stah that everybody should treat like a god?

by Anonymousreply 64May 22, 2019 5:07 PM

Yes R62 I remember those hot rumors.....totally believe them....LL Cool J...still hot....

by Anonymousreply 65May 22, 2019 5:07 PM

Warmest star I've ever met is Alice Cooper. Just exudes relaxed niceness.

Tom Hanks only appears to be a decent human being.

by Anonymousreply 67May 22, 2019 5:11 PM

What about the Chris Pine story?

by Anonymousreply 68May 22, 2019 5:11 PM

Stallone's scat fetish is alleged in "You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again."

I have also heard an independent story (friend who used to work in a hotel) about Stallone leaving turds in the shower. My friend heard this from a coworker, a housekeeper. Stallone is rude and disgusting to leave that behind for someone else to clean up. I would 86 him from the hotel.

by Anonymousreply 69May 22, 2019 5:44 PM

Worst two celebrities I ever met, and I have met, due to my job, more than I can count:

Kevin Bacon (and his diva wife) -- thinks he is the shit, wears his sunglasses everywhere, including the gym and the doctor's office, and get furious if people don't recognize him regardless and, and I once actually saw this happen, let him cut in on line to the front -- and this was at a busy bank. Scrawy, mean-spirited little fellow.

Timothy Hutton - ditto. Still thhinks he's the Biggest Star That Ever Happened despite having all the opportunities to become so but failed due to his inability to understand that there are other people on this earth besides him. Truly awful human being.

Have met many more, and have many stories, but they're all pretty much what you've already read. For the most part, the celebrities with the nice reputations are, indeed, usually nice. The ones with the crapy reps are awful.

The one exception I've met is Ellen D. She is both. She can be the meanest woman on earth, and the kindest. You never know. For a long time I thought it was some kind of bi-polar issue but it isn't. It just seems to be her personality.

by Anonymousreply 70May 22, 2019 6:04 PM

This is years old, but it's about celebs acting like assholes so here goes.

I worked in a furniture store and a well know actor came in and started looking around. He was polite and courteous to all of us and answered questions about being on TV and working with people who became really famous because of his show.

He asked us for a specific piece of furniture and I looked all over the store and inventory and had to tell him we didn't have the exact item he was looking for and I suggested a few other pieces.

He became incensed, rejecting everything I showed him, and insisted on a glass top coffee table and wanted it delivered that night. He stormed out of the store without so much as a thank you.

Danny Thomas was a real jerk!

by Anonymousreply 76May 22, 2019 9:52 PM

I really have to question the reddit poster's crediblity for stating that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are actually nice celebs.

by Anonymousreply 77May 22, 2019 9:55 PM

Are the Kardashians thought of as being mean? I think Kendall seems bitchy at times but never thought about the others.

R35 I apologize. I find tall men so attractive I would probably stare at a man like you, and I am sorry.

by Anonymousreply 80May 22, 2019 10:25 PM

Bette Midler has been known to be a cunt on set but she is a sweetheart to the "little people". Hotel staff, waiters, makeup people, drivers, anyone in a "normal" profession. Generous and warm and has been know to break into song at requests. A lot of times she'll go out to eat or shop at the latest hours possible. A lot of that is done to socialize with the normies who work at these places. Why her coworkers tend to hate her is another story though.

by Anonymousreply 81May 22, 2019 10:42 PM

Not a celebrity but a dead politician, who is reviled as a racist one, Strom Thurmond, R-SC. When he attended an event, like a dinner or fund raiser he would wait around after the event, and shake the hand and thank the largely African-American staff, and the volunteers, for their contributions to the event. It is fine to disagree with his politics, though he did greatly moderate his views as the years went on, but that was a class act. I've been around many political events with politicians from both parties and they rarely care anything about anyone that isn't a high paying donor.

He did this even when he was extremely old. Whenever people questioned why he continued to get elected term after term, that is why, the man was a master of retail politics. I think he really seems to have rubbed off on Joe Biden, with whom he was close. Biden even came and gave the eulogy at his funeral, which I'm sure would be a scandal today.

by Anonymousreply 82May 22, 2019 11:01 PM

R3 How did this thread go on for so long without mentioning that Sylvester Stallone story?

by Anonymousreply 83May 22, 2019 11:12 PM

R81 I thought Bette was a nightmare on the set of Outrageous Fortune.

by Anonymousreply 87May 22, 2019 11:29 PM

What is the origin of the Danny Thomas story? I’ve been hearing it for decades but don’t know how it began. It makes me think of the Philip Roth novel in which a character requested the same thing of a prostitute.

Sly Stallone, that’s just disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 88May 22, 2019 11:44 PM

I don't think so, r75- it was a commercial with Bieber (thankless brat) and Ozzy. The whole crew loved Ozzy because he was so accessible (and really has great comic timing).

None of this surprises me. Especially James Corden. He reeks of phony kiss ass.

by Anonymousreply 90May 23, 2019 12:00 AM

R90 I've never cared for James Corden, I've always preferred his friend Jack Whitehall. He might be a dick, I don't know, but at least he doesn't try to be a phony everyman, and owns his poshness. Plus, Jack is fucking HOT.

Barbra Streisand - On her Timeless tour, the MGM Grand Las Vegas staff was instructed to walk in backwards, deliver what they needed and leave the room. Fresh cut rose petals also had to be placed in the toilets on a daily basis.

by Anonymousreply 92May 23, 2019 12:11 AM

A friend of mine was the "talent wrangler" for one of the bigger concert venues where we lived and so he was responsible to make sure the talent's concert rider needs were met, so he's met dozens of celebrities.

The worst: Susan Sarandon (quelle surprise). He wouldn't elaborate but he called her a cunt, and he doesn't use that word.

The nicest: Tina Turner. A while before she came to the venue he had been dealing with her management team and he asked them if Tina would be willing to meet my friend's dad, the dad loved her and had always wanted to meet her, and the team agreed. So he brought his dad to the venue, got him great seats near the stage and took him backstage to meet Tina. That part was a surprise, my friend had told his dad that he had pulled strings and got him closer to the stage than the tickets he bought and told his dad he could come backstage to see what he does for a living. So when his dad met Tina, he was so moved he cried.

by Anonymousreply 93May 23, 2019 12:22 AM

I was on a shoot with James Corden before he landed The Tonight Show, and he could not have been nicer. We'd been warned by multiple sources, including some of his own people, that he could be a nightmare. He must have been in a good mood that day.

by Anonymousreply 94May 23, 2019 12:29 AM

Tina Turner story. She was booked to play a venue in Spain. A very small venue and a very large venue had the same name. There were some misunderstandings because of language or whatever. So they drove Tina to the "venue". It seated about 75 people at the most. In this case seated was the right word. It was a tour group of disabled people who used wheelchairs. The tour group specialized in special needs tour. Making sure things were accessible. Doing the planning with hotels stuff like that. When Tina got there her management told she by no means had to go on and do the show. Tina was having none of that. She went on to give one hell of a show to some grateful fans who will never forget her kindness.

by Anonymousreply 95May 23, 2019 12:33 AM

How did Corden land such a high profile show without having had any previous traction in the U.S.? Was it Craig Ferguson's doing?

by Anonymousreply 96May 23, 2019 12:33 AM
Jane Fonda-great fun and sweet, and Ted Turner very down to earth.

I saw Jane Fonda and Ted Turner on a few occasions while they were married and both based in Atlanta. And I heard things about them from mutual friends and acquaintances.

Ted was a nice enough guy - but has a huge ego and he talks really loud (you would always hear him before you saw him). Jane has said Ted's loud talking was due to some significant deafness.

One of women friends shared a hairdresser with Jane. Jane is bright and remarkably down-to-earth given her lifelong celebrity status, but she's quite determined and focused on the causes she supports. The hairdresser said Jane has beautiful hair, but she has always been self-conscious about her long ears, which is why she always has her hair covering her ears.

When I saw Jane she was always remarkably thin and well put-together - she exhibits a kind of calm self-confidence that's also very attractive. She and Ted had a genuine if tumultuous relationship for the years they were together. Jane connected with Ted's children and family far more than any of the other women in his life and stays connected to them still. Jane has said it was important to her, because after her mother died, it was her step-mother Susan Blanchard who stepped up and provided the parental care and nurturing that she and her brother Peter needed so much - and Jane has tried to pay that forward to Ted's children.

I've heard (but don't know) that Ted's dementia is more advanced than his circle would like to admit, but he has a lot of family and other support. And Jane still makes time to be with him and have him come to visit her when she can.

R96, no, not Craig Ferguson. He had no leverage. If he did he would have gotten the gig himself. But Ferguson didn't have anyone powerful to help him land the job

Jane intimates in her memoirs that Ted Turner was the love of her life.

His bipolar behavior is what drove them apart.

by Anonymousreply 100May 23, 2019 12:43 AM

What also helped Corden is that he is musical like Fallon. So, CBS wanted their own version of Fallon.

by Anonymousreply 101May 23, 2019 12:43 AM

I’ve posted this ages ago, but an (old!) friend was a roadie for 1960s bands. Said hands down the worst people to work for were the two Morrisons, Van and Jim. Van was plain old mean; Jim was often drunk (but was polite when sober).

Said the Rolling Stones run a tight ship and treat their employees like gold. People remain in their employ for decades, for a reason.

Also loved Walter Becker (but NOT Donald Fagen) and John Stuart (had a one-hit wonder with “Gold” and produced Fleetwood Mac). Also liked Christine McVie.

by Anonymousreply 105May 23, 2019 12:53 AM

R98 No doubt Wintor helped him, but Cordon took over for Ferguson. Ferguson already had the job. So what job are you talking about Ferguson wanting? I thought he had made it clear he wasn't interested in moving up to the Late Show.

An AP told me that Felicity Huffman is smart and talented but she's also prickly and demanding.

Felicity is one of those women who generally treats men better than she treats other women.

On more than one set, Felicity has been sadistic and cruel to younger women.

by Anonymousreply 109May 23, 2019 1:06 AM

It pains me to defend Dr. Phil but the no eye-contact thing is bullshit. I've worked on things he's done and have never heard anything of the sort from anyone and I'm a lowly crew guy who would have been warned. On the contrary he's usually pleasant and cordial around the studio. Reserved and focused but never rude or diva-ish.

I heard the same thing years ago about Keith Olbermann but I think that was started as a joke by someone who worked on the show shortly before being fired. Olbermann was not nice to work with and most people believed the no eye-contact thing because he was such an asshole but I seriously doubt he ever really mandated that.

by Anonymousreply 110May 23, 2019 1:09 AM

Thanks, R98. Had no idea Cordon and Wintour were friends. What a pair!

by Anonymousreply 111May 23, 2019 1:15 AM

R106, Ferguson would have loved to have the job. Why wouldn't he? He was already doing it. It was never offered to him. He was never considered for it.

David Letterman screwed Ferguson and he really should have been the one to help him get the job. But Letterman didn't care about Ferguson's career. His only concern was that Ferguson didn't overshadow him and threaten his own job. That is why he picked Ferguson. He figured an unknown foreigner would be no threat. He also starved Ferguson's show of resources. That is why there was no band and no human sidekick.

In order to get these jobs, you need someone powerful on your side. Conan, Seth and Jimmy Fallon all had Lorne Michaels advocating for them. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten late night jobs.

by Anonymousreply 112May 23, 2019 1:37 AM

R95 and R97- Awesome stuff.

I am disappointed from many responses above that Connie Britton was not nice.

I always liked her.

by Anonymousreply 113May 23, 2019 1:41 AM

I knew a guy who worked for an entertainment group years ago. His job was to be the facilitator for the acts when in town. He arranged dinners, hotels, transportation, and any other “requests”. These stories are over 20 years ago.

Cosby was a complete sleezebag. He would do a two day gig in town and have an endless stream of call girls to his room, sometimes 3 at a time while preaching the clean family image.

On the last night the band or act that was in town would usually tip/gift him or take him out as a thank you. He said Howie Mandel was the cheapest man on earth. He said he was a nice guy but took him to the cheapest restaurant in town, bad tipper, and big time germaphobe.

Like previous poster stated, Van Morrison was a complete prick. Used to come off stage and express his disdain for fans especially ones that asked for requests. He wanted to play the gig, get paid and leave. Zero fan interaction and just acted miserable.

Steve Miller Band - they got burned by promoters in past and would only accept cash. As they were not as popular by the late nineties they weren’t making big bucks but he still had to bring them a briefcase of money like a drug dealer.

Van Halen - despite rumours of Eddie and Alex being a douches he said they were just fantastic to him and took him out for a nice dinner and partied all night with him. Gave him lots of swag.

When Cosby finally got nailed a few years ago he was gloating to us as I think he suspected that some of us thought he was embellishing.

by Anonymousreply 114May 23, 2019 1:44 AM

R112 Oh, you meant Ferguson wanted Letterman's job not the job Cordon got. Honestly, I think Ferguson got upset that he wasn't asked to get the Letterman job, but he might have also not wanted it. He had spent a decade hosting a late night show, and was already over fifty. I could honestly see him not wanting to commit to a new hour long nightly show.

by Anonymousreply 115May 23, 2019 1:45 AM

R115, it's amazing how Corden got a much nicer set and other resources for his show.

by Anonymousreply 116May 23, 2019 1:49 AM

R111, we were speculating on another thread recently that Corden's close friendship with Wintour was the real reason why Andy Cohen didn't go to the Met Gala this year.

Last year, Andy blabbed that Corden was super drunk at the gala. Wintour may not have liked it and maybe told SJP not to bring Cohen as her date this year.

by Anonymousreply 117May 23, 2019 1:53 AM

R117 I'm surprised Wintour and Corden are friends, I thought she hated fat people.

by Anonymousreply 118May 23, 2019 1:57 AM

Any stories about Letterman? He's a smart man and talented comic but seems so inexplicably bitter and angry. His resentment towards Leno went on far too long considering that Letterman probably would have jumped at a chance to bump another comedian for a spot he wanted. The animosity just seemed too extreme and inappropriate. I mean, Letterman was successful at CBS so why did he spend so many years bitching?

by Anonymousreply 119May 23, 2019 2:00 AM

R119, at lot of people held on to long time resentment of Leno that flared up again with the Conan mess. Leno was getting trashed all over the place. Letterman seemed more giddy than pissed that Leno was showing his true colors finally so that the audience could see it. It was pretty infuriating to see Leno still be so disingenuous about his own role in everything.

by Anonymousreply 126May 23, 2019 2:57 AM

R119 Because he thought he was entitled to the The Tonight Show when Carson retired (even though Jay Leno had been Carson's permanent guest host). He became even more bitter and angry after the first few years at CBS when he realized that he was never going to beat Leno in the ratings. Leno had gotten the job he always wanted and was beating him in the ratings every night. Letterman just couldn't accept it.

by Anonymousreply 127May 23, 2019 3:00 AM

R126 most people aren't watching the shows when they are being broadcast so what matters most is a high degree of social media and YouTube presence which she already has achieved.

Secret Service details are not in the business of chit chatting with their charges. They are supposed to be on alert and ready for action. They keep a professional distance.

by Anonymousreply 129May 23, 2019 3:02 AM

Let's walk through the Fergson/Letterman situation.

Dave's deal with CBS gave him the hour after his show. He (Worldwide Pants) owned Ferguson's show, and Ferguson worked for Dave. CBS made chump change off it.

When Dave retired CBS got that hour back. Ferguson was tainted because he had a contract with Dave. If they had kept Ferguson they would have needed to cut a deal with Dave or continue the old arrangement, something they weren't willing to do. Too much money on the table.

So they hired Corden, launched their own show and kept all the money. Ferguson was never really in the running for either slot.

by Anonymousreply 130May 23, 2019 3:02 AM

R129 No one is saying they have to chit chat, it was the idea that they had to look away when the person walks by them, which is just fucking rude. Also, many of the rumors were that White House staff, like housekeepers and butlers couldn't look at Hillary as they went about their job, which as others have mentioned isn't even a rule in Buckingham Palace.

by Anonymousreply 131May 23, 2019 3:05 AM

OT but related to the late night show posts above:

When Letterman moved to CBS after Leno took over Tonight, Letterman briefly surpassed Tonight in the ratings. But that was over 20 years ago and Tonight has always led since. Until today. Today the season's ratings for late night came out for the 2018/19 came out and for the first time in over 20 years, the CBS late night show with Colbert beat Tonight for the entire season.

by Anonymousreply 132May 23, 2019 3:06 AM

R107 she also made Jessica Alba cry during an acting class. And speaking of her..... I don't think I've heard one positive story about Alba. I know there was drama on the set of Dark Angel because Weatherly didn't like that the writers were setting up Jensen Ackles to be another love interest. So they took it out on him instead. But I think Jensen said she's apologized to him since for it.

Oddly I know two people who met Jane Fonda, one who worked on an indie movie with her ages ago, another who lived in Atlanta and saw her in a thrift shop or consignment store. My mom was the one who worked on a documentary movie with her as part of the insurance-required medical staff, and said she was chilly but professional and a bit put out because mom looked a little like her. Same age (born the same year) and the same hair, just shorter. Mom had been a model in the 1950s and still looked pretty good in the 1990s. A coworker said Fonda referred to her as "that lady trying to look like me" and the coworker laughed and said "hardly, she's looked like that since 1979!"

The guy who lived in Atlanta said Fonda was being outgoing and bubbly and all huggy with the staff and people who happened to be in the shop. That was about a decade ago.

Van Morrison is very strange. I've never met him but I saw him in two interviews defend the mob-adjacent Bert Berns, even though he got into such a fight with Berns back when he was under contract with Bang! that he ended up punching him. Ineffectually, apparently.

Spike Milligan's wife was on Twitter a few weeks ago recounting the time that Van Morrison showed up at their house, asked for red wine, spilled it on their new white carpet, asked for a replacement glass, and spilled it too.

R140 can confirm Kanye is actually cool.

My Uncle was his stunt coordinator once and said the same. Now my Uncle is a rad dude himself, life of the party and absolutely unimpressed by celebrity and extroverted as an over generous soft-touch oddball can be. He’s generally the coolest person in any room, but he said Kanye was the most fun laidback personable famous person he’s ever met (and he’s met Tammy & Clooney, plus others on that fame level).

Story goes my Uncle spent an entire day joyriding around with Kanye and got lost, so they spent hours just shooting the shit like two wacky but normal dudes might.

Carson specifically stated that he wanted Letterman for the spot. He was not fond of Leno despite Leno's success on his off nights. Leno and his team essentially got Carson ousted from the show, He was supposed to retire in 1993 but NBC had him pushed out a year earlier. Carson was devastated over how the network treated him that he refused to have anything to do with them ever again. He had a big production company that was producing shows for NBC, and he was supposed to do occasional shows for the network. He severed all ties with them after leaving.

Letterman and Carson were friends. Letterman was pissed that he was denied the gig, but he was also pissed that Carson was treated so badly. That's where a lot of the real animosity with Leno stems from.

Carson made one last late night appearance on Letterman's show in the mid 90's. He used to send jokes to Letterman all the time, and Letterman would use them in his monologues. They were pen pals.

There's been gossip on here about Letterman being very devoted to people who have helped him get big breaks and staff who have worked on his show. Paying off houses, giving them cars if they needed one. Things like that. He's supposedly one of the nicest guys to work for.

Dionne Warwick...diva and cunt, yelled at an electrician or gas company worker who dared ask for her autograph when he came to fix some sort of issue in her dressing room. Not directly to him, mind you, but to her handlers who then told the worker...while he was not ten feet away from her big nosed buck toothed behind.

by Anonymousreply 157May 23, 2019 3:55 PM

It's funny with Carson. You'll hear from some about how he was so good to guests and really championed them or you'll hear from others about how he was the most vindictive, meanest bastard out there.

There's no middle ground.

Robert Downey Jr. walked into the hotel bar where I used to work (long time ago). He was with an entourage, all male, and I think all young. It did not look like a business meeting. RDJ was LOUD and obnoxious. He was not in my section, so I didn't serve him and I don't know what kind of tip he left. I know it's a long time ago, but I've never liked him after that.

I have also heard stories (from a musician friend of mine) about Dionne Warwick being moody and a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 161May 23, 2019 5:35 PM

He's always struck me as a prissy queen. Why he keeps up the hetero or bisexual charade I don't know. Or rather, I do: money and stability. Cut him some slack still, prison can't have been easy.

by Anonymousreply 162May 23, 2019 5:37 PM

David Letterman is a big supporter and contributor to the School for the Deaf which is in the neighborhood he grew up in.

I worked in the Business Office. I knew he was on campus being given tours and interacting with the students, but didn't expect to see or talk to him.

They just happened to be working on the restrooms, so there was a toilet in the hallway.....I was taking some papers to the Superintendent's Office when I passed by it. A man was coming the other way and he said: "I appreciate the convenience, but the lack of privacy could be a problem."

It was David Letterman.......funny guy.

Years ago a friend was dating a guy who was a barista at Seattle's Best Coffee in Chicago near where William Kennedy Smith, the accused rapist from that Kennedy family. Friend's boyfriend said something to the effect of "You look like William Kennedy Smith that guy from the news." WKS went to the management and got him fired. I don't recall if the rape issue was brought up since it's been over 20 years.

WKS, by the way, gives off the creepiest vibes. Another friend lived in the building next door to his townhouse (yeah, Chicago can be a small town). We were out walking her dog and ran into him and a petite blonde woman gardening in front. My friend knew her and introduced me to her. She in turned introduced WKS to us. He was SO ON THE SPECTRUM! No eye contact. He looked down and muttered something, like "heh" which I think was meant to be "Hi" and made no effort to say anything. I'm also a woman. I don't know if he felt weird surrounded by women. He definitely has issues with females (he was accused of other sexual impropriety by a woman at the Rehab Institute where he worked) and alcohol, but there's more to it. Weird social ineptitude.

Simon Cowell is very nice and charming. Jennifer hudson is lovely..friendly. Angela lansbury was Adorable. The composer David Foster is Horrible. Sharon and Kelly Osborne ate fun..no nonsense. Kylie Minogue is even better than expected...humble, interested and eager to please...i think we gays spot a touch of the Judy vulnerability with Kylie. Oddest Star was Joan Collins...cold...but fragile.

R110, I personally know several former "Dr. Phil" producers who were traumatized by the experience of working for him.

One of them told me that he called her late on a Saturday screaming about a typo in the script for next week's taping. This and other incidents soured this producer so much that she quit the business altogether and moved out of state.

He has an atrocious reputation, as does Carla Pennington, the EP. Both are thoroughly nasty, demeaning, detestable people, according to many former staff.

The only complaint about Weaver that I ever read here on DL is that she and a group of friends were chatting outside of a theater on a side street in NYC. It's a common occurrence in Manhattan, to run into crowds on a sidewalk (ever been to gallery openings in Chelsea?). The poster asked to go through and I believe Weaver and her group didn't make room for him fast enough. Something like that.

R166 - you are not wrong about WKS at all! There was a time before, during, and after his trial when there were a couple of old time Irish pubs that somehow became trendy/popular, and they’d be crawling with WKS and his cousins. All entitled, rude cunts. They thought nothing of shoving people out of their way at the bar, blocking the bathroom while one was using (I assume doing bumps). They weren’t popular with the staff, and apparently lousy tippers. Of course the old school 1950s immigrant owners loved them -the whole Kennedy mystic- and loved the crowds of Kennedy groupies that would pack the place hoping to spot them. They may have money, but I’ve yet to see, meet, or read about any Kennedy who had any class.

The Kennedys are just vile. My friend was the manager of the Planet Hollywood in BH, and investors were allowed free food and merch. Bruce Willis and Roseanne, both nice and great tippers. Maria Shriver would call in an order, and pull up to valet and honk until someone came out with her food. Never tipped a penny or said thank you.

Celebs were also given free stuff. But my friend said when Barbra comes in, do NOT give her a leather jacket (the most expensive thing) if she asks- and she will. Sure enough, Barbra wanted a jacket and was denied. T shirts for Babs.

by Anonymousreply 181May 24, 2019 3:40 AM

I've heard from multiple sources that Katie Couric became a monster as her success grew on the "Today Show"

Toward the end of her time at NBC - she was actually unhinged - none of her co-workers would take her calls.

Everyone started avoiding her - don't let the door hit you in the ass, Katie!

Mery Streep is passive aggressive, according to a friend who did some event with her. She was nice as pie to everyone then when the person was out of sight, Streep would roll her eyes. My friend said it was funny cuz she rolled her eyes at everyone.

Always thought that was fitting. I think Streep is kinda bland so it was perfect that she wasn't rude, or acted entitled, but was secretly passive aggressive. Suits her.

I've had many encounters over the years with Sigourney Weaver, always exceptionally lovely. Her husband is nice too.

Once they mistakenly arrived at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm dinner party, and the host and hostess were still upstairs getting dressed and ready. I said, not to worry, they don't know you're here, I'll make drinks, come in. Even though it was a cold day, they told me they'd walk around the block for half an hour, and they did! I didn't tell or act as if I'd already seen them later on, and they smiled at me and thanked me. Same charm every time to everybody.

by Anonymousreply 184May 24, 2019 4:19 AM
[R161], servers gossip like crazy. You don't know the tip?

Servers can work staggered shifts. E.g., one person starts at 6:00 p.m., another person starts at 7:00 p.m. Unless it was a very busy night and everybody stays until closing, the server who started at 6:00 p.m. would probably leave earlier than the server who started at 7:00 p.m. It was a long time ago. I'm guessing that I clocked out before RDJ cashed out. We had a fair amount of famous people coming through the bar. I was probably more interested in clocking out than in RDJ's tip amount.

I don't like the Kardashians and what they have done to popular culture for the past decade or so, but Kim actually seems like a nice sweet girl, tho vapid. So it doesn't suprise me that they are actually nice people.

Vannesa Williams also has a reputation for being a nice person. I think Faith Hill and Tim McGraw too.

I worked at a coffee shop in midtown and we had a frequent customer who we were told was Princess Madeleine of Sweden. She was living in New York at the time and must have been nearby. She wasn't chatty but she was always cheerful and had impeccable manners that seemed natural and not forced. She was very pretty. No one asked her anything about being a princess because New Yorkers are used to seeing celebrities but one time a coworker gave her coffee to go and said heartily "Here ya go Princess." She laughed and replied, "Thank you, sir."

The thing with Kim Kardashian is that she has no personality on her own. She's neither mean nor nice. Pair her up with someone else and she mirrors that person's attitude. Pair her up with several people and she will try to figure out who's the Queen Bee, or the majority, and then takes on that person or group's side and attitude.

Faye horror story originally posted at BroadwayWorld.com:
I was working alone in a very ritzy boutique in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills. I had only been working there a few weeks, so I was very conscious of making sure I made a good impression on all the celebrity clients who came in.
As I said, I was alone in the store (the owner and manager were downtown on a buying trip), and she came in. She was looking for a suit. We carried lots of suits. She started pulling things, handing them to me, until I had a very large and heavy pile of clothes in my arms, and she said, "Hold these for me." I assumed she meant to put them "on hold" for her while she went and ran another errand, so I started to lay the things down on the counter and organize this huge pile of clothes so I could neatly hang them and hold them for her. She noticed what I was doing (she was about 20 feet away at this point), and literally screamed at me, "I SAID HOLD THEM FOR ME! WHILE I WALK AROUND THE STORE! ARE YOU STUPID?"
So, being young and new to the job, I did. I followed her around the store like a human coatrack, as she threw more and more clothes on top of me. Then, after about 2 hours of dealing with just general unpleasantness as she tried things on, she finally bought one suit. Not a great sale at all, but whatever ...
As she left, I went into the dressing room, which of course was an utter disaster—not one thing on a hanger, everything crumpled all over the floor—and as I was cleaning up, I noticed she'd left her sports bra on the bench in there. So, being nice, I ran out front (her Mercedes was parked directly in front of the store) and gestured to her through the passenger side window, being sure to be discreet about the bra. Well, she got all angry again, and started very aggressively gesturing for me to come around into traffic so I could hand her the bra through the driver's side door instead.
The kicker is, after all that, the owner returned to the store and I told her that Ms. Dunaway had been in. Before I could go on, she said, "Oh God, we hate her. You don't have to help her if she ever comes in here." So, I'd been scraping and bowing for no reason. HA!

It was done in a more subtle manner, and no exceptions.

R176 - WKS was known as a sexual predator. I haven't read this SPY magazine story since it came out, but I remember that he had numerous victims. Some were friends of the Kennedy family and others came from "good" (i.e. wealthy) families who had no interest in stirring the pot for a number of reasons. Met Donna Summer in the VIP lounge in the LA Airport back in the 70s. She was with her manager and the tv was tuned in to the awards show she taped earlier. She was mortified at her performance and very self-deprecating. Was very nice to this 15 year old kid

by Anonymousreply 223May 24, 2019 5:06 PM

R176 Sounds about right. The Kennedy's are a family of entitled psychopathic cunts. For years the media has been on their knees for these vile degenerates. Funny how the beltway media ripped the Clinton's to shreds and villainized them at every turn while not blinking an eye at the well documented psychopathy of the entire Kennedy family. I guess the Kennedy's didn't have southern accents so they must be "classy ". I think the next generation is going to be less tolerant of Kennedy worship however. The behavior of the Kennedy clan just wouldn't fly today.

Ive told these before but here goes... I was a waiter at Bradfords Coach House in St. Pete Fl in 1984 . It was a very popular place for the retiree set and was always packed. One day our hostess (the owners wife,a gorgeous lady and a class act) tells me that there will be some special guests in my section and to treat them with the utmost care. It wasnt unheard of for us to get celebs, usually very minor ones (Bob denver was one,Jim Nabors was another) so I was surprised to see Steve Guttenberg as well as Wilfred Brimley ,Don Ameche and Hume Cronyn and a few other guys. I knew who Steve was,as well as Don Ameche (I was an old movie fan) but i confess I didnt know the others. Steve was absolutely adorable looking in person, but my impression was he was one of those guys who think they are hilarious when they arent. He never shut up and made unfunny jokes constantly. Nice enough though. Don Ameche was a true gentleman, looked me in the eyes, spoke to me like a person, great manners. Hume was exactly like you'd think. Rude, dismissive and unfriendly. Wilfred was surprisingly hot ! In person he had this sexy earthiness that rolled off him. He also ate like a field hand ! he really liked this cheese dip the bar served.Out of all of them Don Ameche was the one those old folks recognized most, several old ladies stopped by their table and flirted with him. They were easy to serve and tipped well,it wasnt until the movie came out I realized why they were there at the time.

I once waited on John John Kennedy at a 7-11 in West Palm beach circa 1982. He bought a bottle of Evian and some gum. I knew who he was the second he walked in and was acting like some silly schoolgirl when he came to the register ! I didnt admit I knew who he was,but the way I was tongue tied and blushing he probably figured it out. Its been said before but bears repeating,he exuded sexiness without even trying. he was amazing looking in person, such an aura.He was with some other guy,but I couldnt have told you who as I only had eyes for John John.

Harvey Weinstein can be quite charming when he wants or needs to be. His confidence is sexy. He will be back as a player in Hollywood because most of them are as sleazy as Harvey was accused of being.

I used to work at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, a huge building downtown that used to be owned by the Kennedy family. For those not familiar, here is a picture.

There was a food court on the 2nd floor and I often had lunch there. Once, heading back to the elevators, I saw William Kennedy Smith walking in the opposite direction. This was not all that long after the trial. I think he was working at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. I suspected he had been upstairs visiting his cousin.

I sometimes also saw Christopher Kennedy (one of RFK's sons) who for some years managed the building. His office was on the same floor as mine and the first time I saw him, it was very clear who he was. Genetics showed all over him. Built much like his father, slender and not very tall, but with that Kennedy face which was a mix of both his parents. By all accounts he was a good guy and lived in the Chicago area for years and I think still does.

I will second the Don Ameche being a gentleman. I was only aware of him as being in Trading Places at the time, but I just remember him having amazing posture, and facing everyone head on, as if his body language was saying "You're the most important person I will talk to today." Supposedly he didn't want to say "Fuck" in Trading Places and went around and apologized in advance to everyone on the set.

The nicest celeb I've met was Ricky Nelson. Granted, not a huge star at the time, but formerly was a teen. He could not have been more "just one of the guys."

Currently friends with a certain 80's pop diva (one who "Drove all night to show her true colors of just wanting to have fun") and she explained the sunglasses/eye contact thing to me. She said its a problem when you're walking down the street and you make eye contact and the other person takes that as an invite to crowd your personal space. Or, if you purposely ignore them you're labeled as "rude." Sunglasses help apparently. Anyway, she's nice as can be and her husband is a SUPER nice, low maintenance guy.

by Anonymousreply 232May 24, 2019 10:31 PM

R96 I wonder, too. I don't really watch late night TV (is that what he's on?), and he's one of those people just suddenly famous and everywhere. I still have no idea where he came from.

I'll admit I'm old and pop culture has mostly passed me by, but damn, there just seem to be a million billion jillion "celebrities" these days, who the hell can keep track?

Belinda Carlisle was very nice. I would describe her as elegant and ladylike, which is odd given her party-girl 80s heyday persona.

Back in the late 90s, an acquaintance told me about a kindness Harvey Weinstein did her, help with a personal matter. Even then there were stories about what a rough character he was, so I was surprised. But she insisted, oh no, he was a wonderful person, so kind. So there you go.

And no, she was not at all a beauty, nor rich or famous or even young, so it couldn't have remotely been about that.

I met Gena Rowlands at a fundraiser in San Francisco in the 90s. Looked me straight in the eye when we spoke and was very gracious. She treated everyone the same. Now, William Shatner on the other hand was just as horrible as you could imagine. I paid to have a picture taken with him. It was obvious he hated doing this. A total jerk. Another friend told me she had a similar encounter with him. Jonathan Groff was very sweet and actually a bit shy. Met him at the SF gay and lesbian film festival a couple of years ago. George Takei was very nice. His husband is a wound a little tight, but basically a good guy.

by Anonymousreply 244May 25, 2019 2:06 AM

R222 I agree. My brother has worked with several celebrities on set and he always says, "You never know what kind of a day they're having." He only tells stories about those who are exceedingly nice and friendly.

Tovah Feldshuh doesn't have the nicest reputation, but I was working an event and she was there with her elderly mom (whom I knew a little, she was over 100 at the time!) and her brother and his family. I was getting something for her mother and she came over and thanked me for being so attentive to the very old guests, and we ended up talking. She was very warm and gracious, when a simple "thanks" would have sufficed. Her mother and brother were lovely as well.

This is older gossip from around 2000-2001, but a cousin of a friend worked in NYC for a designer and heard through the grapevine that Gwyneth Paltrow liked their shoes. The company contacted her PR to see if she wanted to have some made for her (to purchase).

The response was: “Gwyneth doesn’t BUY shoes. Designers GIVE them to her.”

As if millionaire celebrities should be handed out $400 shoes for free. Annoying that celebrities expect free stuff so much when they’re sole of the only ones who can truly afford to pay for everything....

by Anonymousreply 254May 25, 2019 6:40 AM

Another old one: I don’t have celebrity gossip about anyone being entitled, but a friend of a friend who went to Harvard at the same time Natalie Portman did and lived in the same dorm would see her security guard posted outside her door 24/7. The friend shared that once when he got back to the dorm late at night, he saw Natalie making out heatedly with a guy in the lobby and she invited him up to her room. He said no. I wish I had something more scandalous than that, but I thought it was funny that she got turned down.

by Anonymousreply 255May 25, 2019 6:50 AM

r254, for some celebs it's about their ego and the belief that by being seen wearing designer clothes (like, at the red carpet) they give these designers PR promotion and media exposure and celebs want some compensation for that.

Some celebs are paranoid about others making money off of their brand or celebrity image and they want to either control their image or at least get paid in some way (even when it's just free stuff).

by Anonymousreply 256May 25, 2019 6:52 AM

Old school stuff here. Everyone knows that Barbra Streisand was, let's say, not well liked by the cast and crew of "Hello, Dolly," but here's a detail you haven't heard. A friend of my grandparents was a sound man at 20th Century Fox and he would tell the story of the "Hello, Dolly" wrap party which was held in a tent on the 20th lot. It was customary for major players on a film to give gifts to the other cast and crew. The day after the wrap party, the dumpster outside the tent was filled with the gifts from Barbra, unopened. Everyone had pretty much had it with her.

by Anonymousreply 257May 25, 2019 9:16 AM

Judy Garland: As she was being escorted from her underground dressing room to the Limo waiting a few feet away a little girl, maybe 5, was screaming "I want to see Judy",,,,Judy turned to the little girl and said "yes"? the little one replied excitedly "Judy, you sang so good I almost fell asleep" Garland laughed, bent over, hugging the child and said "Did I darling"!

by Anonymousreply 258May 25, 2019 9:43 AM

Yeah...Streisand and Midler are huge CUNTS. Heard it from industry people and other celebrities from listening to shows on Sirius. It wasn't said--verbatim--but it was obvious by reading between the lines. When asked directly, some would take the high road and others would flat out say "She's not very nice" and these are fans of those bitches.

James Corden -- A friend was on the stage crew for The History Boys and said he was the worst of the cast. "He thought his shit didn't stink."

Hillary Clinton -- Spoke at my college during a Commencement. I was one of the students assigned to help her staff. Nice, genuine, funny, and personable. Not a thing like the bitch the press makes her out to be. Wonderful woman,

Maya Angelou -- spoke at an arts center in Northern California I worked at . Nice, friendly, low maintenance. Easy to deal with, though her assistant was somewhat difficult.

Joan Rivers -- at same arts center. Down to earth, funny off-stage. Talked with staff about the area. Stayed well into the wee-hours to speak with fans. She was literally being pulled into the limo at the end because she would not stop talking with fans. I remember her handing the leftover food and such we'd provided in her dressing room to the center staff, telling us to take it home.

Earth, Wind, and Fire -- again, same arts center. Very professional. A pleasure to work with. Another group of performers who spent time with fans when they were surely tired.

At a play in London I heard two American matrons sat behind me discussing the play during the interval. 'It wouldn't fly on Broadway!' one said in way we assume all Americans do, I sneaked a look and it was Cindy Adams and sat with her Joan Rivers, this was about a year before Joan died. At the end of the play they were both chatting and swapping reviews with us all quite naturally, 'I thought it was adorable! What did you think?' Joan asked me, I wasn't so keen so we had to agree to differ. The thing that impressed me was Joan's easy way with the guy sat to her left, so natural and casually friendly I assumed he was of their party, but as we were leaving he said what a pleasure it had been to meet her and went on his way.

More from the article at R272--- Memorable exchanges between Hillary and AK State Troopers when Bill was Governor.

“Where is the goddam f***ing flag? I want the goddam f***ing flag up every f***ing morning at f***ing sunrise,” Hillary snapped at state trooper Larry Patterson at the Arkansas governor’s mansion on Labor Day 1991, according to Ronald Kessler’s Inside the White House, page 246.

“Good morning,” an Arkansas state trooper said to Clinton, according to American Evita, by Christopher Andersen, a former contributing editor with Time magazine. “F*** off!” Hillary told him and his fellow bodyguards. “It’s enough I have to see you s***-kickers every day! I’m not going to talk to you, too! Just do your goddam job and keep your mouth shut.”

by Anonymousreply 273May 25, 2019 12:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 274May 25, 2019 12:39 PM

That’s some Barbra levels of nastiness and entitlement, R272 and R273! I have heard that Hilary has issues with the Secret Service for years now and led Chelsea to act the same way.

It’s in the recent (“official”?) book on the history of the Secret Service as well. These are not new stories.

It doesn’t change my view of or support of her politics (I can separate the the two like with any public figure) but it is bad manners just as it is when a celeb pulls this crap on “the help”.

Where does that ferocious temper towards security come from? It seems odd with her upbringing and history. And all the cursing? I just don’t get it.

by Anonymousreply 275May 25, 2019 12:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 276May 25, 2019 12:44 PM

R274 These recollections of Arkansas State Troopers and Secret Service are documented in multiple books over the years. The book titles and pg numbers are listed. I read about these incidents long ago on other news websites. I remember reading the K9 guy's Facebook post via some other news source when it happened. This is the first time I've seen the Nat'l Review article about Hillary and her bodyguards. I don't read the Nat'l Review.

Just to chime in- I worked at a high profile restaurant in Manhattan for years. Most of the time, the celebs were fine (agree about J Leto) but it was always the assistants who were the assholes.

by Anonymousreply 288May 25, 2019 2:28 PM

R285 -- you know the moment you post something like "Saint Hillary" you give yourself away as a Russian Troll or a crazy Bernie Bot.

by Anonymousreply 289May 25, 2019 2:31 PM

r288, the assistants are paid to be the bad guy so the celeb can't look like the good guy and not like a demanding diva. The ones who act like demanding divas get off on it. The rest just want to make sure that they get the respect (and money and freebies) they deserve for showing up.

I've actually never heard anything bad about Joan Rivers; it seems like she was a lovely woman to the people she worked with and her fans.

Reaching way back, and I know she was terrible to her kids, but I've always heard that Joan Crawford really appreciated her fans and would interact with them exhaustingly and return every piece of fan mail personally.

by Anonymousreply 296May 25, 2019 3:43 PM

The "no staring" clause is interesting to me--I can see how being stared at is annoying, but I think most celebrities just take it as an unfortunate consequence of being famous, and don't ask for it because they realize how incredibly de-humanizing it is to ask of it from other people. It's often asked for by the most insecure celebrities who secretly like the idea of people averting their eyes from them, as if they were Louis XIV.

I was asked to do it once on a social occasion and I flat-out refused to do it. I was invited to a party in Hancock Park and the late Nelsan Ellis (from True Blood) was coming--the host, a close friend, told me not to look at him throughout the entire party. I told the host I would never stare at anyone, but I was not about to purposefully avert my gaze at His Majesty as if I were some sort of peon. He was irritated at me, but he couldn't revoke my invitation. at the party, Ellis came wearing a parka and wore the hood up the whole time to avert everyone's gaze--he sat in a chair the whole time, and so if you wanted to talk to him, you had to come right up into the blinkered line of sight the parka hood provided him. I thought he was a freak (and of course it made everyone at the party stare at him, even if he couldn't see them do it),;but later after his death I learned he had genuine problems with mental illness.

by Anonymousreply 297May 25, 2019 3:50 PM

R275, one defense I've heard for the Clintons is they -- unlike the Bushes -- did not grow up around servants and are accustomed to that dynamic. By all accounts the Bushes were very nice to WH staff, but they've had lifetimes of experience with "staff."

Having said that, National Review is hardly bipartisan. Also, Hilary Clinton gets such vile thrown at her that more deserving men never get (including her husband.) As evidenced in this thread, there is plenty of bad behavior but some people just have better PR agents. I'm sure some of the men in Congress are awful, but women are simply held to a different standard. The whole "bitch" versus "assertive" thing.

And that staff from Arkansas have nasty things to say about her doesn't surprise.

by Anonymousreply 298May 25, 2019 3:50 PM

I dunno. Those Arkansas Troopers were the ones taking Bill Clinton to his little encounters and standing watch. I can understand a certain resentment there, though of course shifting the blame from the guy she should have been mad at. As for White House stories, there was such an industry of Clinton hatred going on, including some wingnut Secret Service agents, that I'm not quite sure what to believe there.

by Anonymousreply 299May 25, 2019 4:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 303May 25, 2019 4:15 PM

I don't know how Hillary treated the troopers and at this point I don't much care, but I do see her point about remembering to raise the fucking flag every morning. It does seem like something you shouldn't need to remind them about.

by Anonymousreply 304May 25, 2019 4:21 PM

Imagine the conservatives shrieking about the Clintons hating America and their state for not raising the flag like they are supposed to.

by Anonymousreply 305May 25, 2019 4:23 PM

My parents were vacationing in Florida and my father sat in a bench while my mother shopped. He started talking to the man next to him, who was a retired Secret Service agent. Dad asked who he enjoyed working with, and the man said Bill was wonderful but Hillary was very nasty (said more colorfully). This was long before anything was printed, so I believe it, and I like Hillary.

by Anonymousreply 306May 25, 2019 4:30 PM

r306 Let's not forget though that for a lot of guys of that generation, a woman who was unapologetically assertive would not get the same acceptance as a man who was the same way.

True, but his description fit with what has since been published. I think she’s mellowed with age.

by Anonymousreply 308May 25, 2019 4:39 PM

And let's not forget that Bill couldn't keep it in his pants and the security personel weren't exactly the ones who ratted him out. They rather covered for him and she must have felt they work against her.

Sylvester Stallone - The common story on set I thought the previous poster was going to write about was when Stallone was still miked and brought a women with him into his trailer. The sound department heard the entire thing, and Stallone memorably uttered the phrase: "Cup the balls."

Zooey & Emily Deschanel - The charmed sisters continued their charmed life on the Fox studios lot when both of them had shows in production, New Girl and Bones. Zooey is the most self-serious, humorless person I've ever seen cast in a sitcom. She would pout and stomp off the set if the crew didn't begin shooting her scene as soon as she was "invited" to set, or if there was a female guest star receiving all the attention.

Emily was not as entitled as Zooey, but she took on the douche-bro, entitled vibe of Bones, created by David Boreanaz. She would often leave the set to "check on her baby" in her trailer for an hour or more in the middle of shooting a scene.

Freaks and Geeks actor John Francis Daley became an epic Boreanaz mini-me on Bones, never acknowledging his stand-in the entire time he was on the show.

Similar behavior from Kyra Sedgwick on the set of "Ten Days in the Valley" who would not look up or respond to the show's hair and make-up people. They would just start working on her like servants.

Better than their clients getting a rep for being stuck up, because they don't engage in conversations with fans who approach them.

I was working in Bucharest on a film with a young actress, and we (plus some other crew ) went to go the the Comiccon there. She figured she didn't have to wear sunglasses or her hat down (which she usually does in L.A.) and right before we got in at the turnstyle, a woman ran up and asked for her autograph, which held up the whole line, and in retrospect, probably cut the encounter short because of all the people waiting. HRC hated the Arkansas Staties and the Governor's Secret Service because she knew, or strongly suspected, they were enabling her husband's philandering.

by Anonymousreply 318May 25, 2019 5:15 PM

I would take the accounts of Hilary and Chelsea mistreating secret service agents with a grain of salt. I don't think any of the Clinton's are saints but there is a pathological and extreme level of animosity towards the Clinton family within the press and probably some segments of the secret service agency as well. Just look at our last election. I saw so many liberal journalists ripping Hilary and Chelsea to shreds over every single infraction, real or imagined. All while gushing praise over Melania and Ivanka every time they managed to display slightly more decorum than Donald, which is incredibly easy to do. And don't forget the medias aiding and abetting the rights hysteria over a fucking blow job. These same people in the media who helped normalize anti Clinton hatred are now acting outraged and shocked over Trump, as if they played no part in this fiasco.

by Anonymousreply 319May 25, 2019 5:26 PM

could you give me a link of those liberal journalists ripping the clintons apart during the last election?

by Anonymousreply 324May 25, 2019 6:31 PM

I can correct the record on two people mentioned upthread: Michelle Kwan and Hillary Clinton. I've seen that both are lovely to others, no matter their station in life or ranking at work.

Kwan can be gregarious and is genuine in her progressive beliefs. I don't know what she was like at the height of her career, which might be relevant since a poster upthread mentions an encounter in 2002, but she's lovely and "normal" today.

Clinton keeps staff in good spirits and is a highly knowledgable (she seems to retain a working memory of briefings for years, including a mastery of the crucial finer details) yet forgiving boss. Clinton, by contrast to Kwan, is not "normal." I've heard that her work habits and smarts routinely impresses even the senior staff closest to her. If anyone reading has managed layers of staff over the long term and under pressure, you know what a feat that is. Just look at how long people stay with her, and the reciprocity of that loyalty reveals a generous spirit and authentically wonderful person.

A friend of mine was working as a PA for E! when Joan Rivers was doing the Red Carpet Show for the Oscars. He said that Joan was sweet and kind to EVERYONE working with her. She had a suite given her by E! at a nearby hotel stocked with food and drinks and swag. She gave the key to the PA's and told them to use what they wanted and rest when they needed to. Everyone loved her.........Melissa not so much - she was just the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 327May 25, 2019 8:20 PM

I think with stars like Joan Rivers, they had to work so damn hard for it, and relied a lot of time on people to help her, that she was paying back. The old be kind to those on the way up sort of thing. Whereas those who had it handed to them, well, they tend to shit on people. Isn't that right Missy?

by Anonymousreply 328May 25, 2019 8:25 PM

I think you're right R328.

by Anonymousreply 329May 25, 2019 8:30 PM

That's it r328. Joan had to work like a dog for everything, and it took her a long time. She was well into her 30s before she became successful. She had many years of struggle, and she never forgot it. That's a big reason she was always nice to people. She knew what it was like to struggle

by Anonymousreply 332May 25, 2019 8:34 PM

R332 I love joan too bad she raised a bitch. I had a neighbor like Joan growing up, the sweetest most generous lady but her daughter was a bitch who would get pissed off everytime her mother gave me stuff.

There are 3 people I miss. Joan Rivers , Patty Duke, and my own grandmother! For real.

Go watch Joan doing her stand up on Youtube! She is completely ALIVE. Even now, It is incomprehensible that she could ever die. It is amazing to me that someone who is dead still seems so alive.

She is the real deal and there will never be another. What a broad. Timeless.

Melissa?? I have heard she is extremely intelligent and quite nice. She lives in the shadow of her mother. Can you imagine what that is like? I give her a break.

I'm sorry to interrupt all this worship at the temple of St. Joan of Rivers, but I don't think the record on her makes her out to quite the flawless angel many of you are depicting her to be.

Remember that she was an ardent Republican, and that she said some really nasty things repeatedly in her act about certain celebrities who didn't bow and scrape to her (like Gillian Anderson). Also, if you see the documentary "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work," you'll see that although she did wonderful selfless things sometimes, like deliver Meals on Wheels with her grandson, she could also suddenly turn on people who had been with her for years and years. Plus the dozens of plastic surgeries reveal she had genuine self-loathing.

I think she was a remarkable woman with incredible drive, and at her peak she was a terrific comedienne. And she did some wonderful things for people sometimes. But she was also very fucked-up, and could be really not nice if you got on her wrong side, and she did some questionable things (like making the made-for-TV film about her husband's suicide with her daughter).

You're not doing her any favors by painting her as this saint. Not only is it untrue, but it makes her out to be much less interesting and complex than she actually was.

by Anonymousreply 342May 25, 2019 9:34 PM

R440 must need reading comprehension classes. The topic request was not to encapsulate someone's life and character in a post but to share incidents o e has had with e titled celebs. The posters went off track to start sharing some good stories they had heard about interaction s with Joan Rivers. What Rivers did in her act was her job. That had nothing to do with whether she said, "Thank you" to a waiter.

by Anonymousreply 343May 25, 2019 9:35 PM
[R440] must need reading comprehension classes.

There is no such person on this thread as r440.

by Anonymousreply 344May 25, 2019 9:36 PM

R340- I actually agree with everything you said-

She had many flaws. And that's why I like her-

What I respect about her is her sensitivity and her emotion. She truly FELT things, Whether I agree with them or not.

She was flawed like all of us. I never felt she was a saint.

by Anonymousreply 345May 25, 2019 9:37 PM

I really haven't heard a single bad story about Joan. Damnit, why did she have to die like that? We'd have given you all the Kardashians in exchange, Lord.

by Anonymousreply 346May 25, 2019 9:42 PM

Was Joan suffering from some dementia at the end? That storming off the set of an interview was very bizarre. The interviewer was like I can't believe this is for real and I had to agree with her. Even Letterman when interviewing Rivers after the incident implied that the questioning was not as objectional that it merited her walking off the set. And then Rivers starts with the 'negative' stuff.

I was a big Rivers fan but watching a lot of her stuff on youtube she can be pretty nasty and unpleasant all under the guise of being honest. And the plastic surgery reached Michael Jackson levels of grotesqueness that over time it becomes hard to look at her. I'm curious too about what happened with Carson because we've only heard her side. I guess everyone else is dead at this point so we'll never know.

If anybody made fun of her husband's death or Melissa the way she did about Christina Onassis I'm sure Joan would have obliterated them. Joan could dish it out but she could not take it.

Still an enormously gifted woman who could be brilliant. She talks about starting out in the Village with Streisand but it seems like the two of them since that period gave each other a wide berth.

by Anonymousreply 347May 25, 2019 9:53 PM

I don't know why anyone would want to meet a celebrity. It sounds like a guaranteed letdown.

by Anonymousreply 348May 25, 2019 9:57 PM

It's best to meet them very briefly but if it was Bacall it would still be a letdown as it happened to me. What was wrong with that woman? The well known TV/Hollywood hair stylist Judy Crown talks about refusing to work with her after a while because she couldn't stand to see how she would treat other people though she was always nice to her.

by Anonymousreply 349May 25, 2019 10:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 352May 25, 2019 10:19 PM

R350 It's on youtube. There are a number of short interviews with her. Why what do you know about Judy Crown? Does she also have a reputation?

by Anonymousreply 353May 25, 2019 10:21 PM

R353- I watched all of Judy Crown interviews yet I blocked out the Bacall stuff!! for real!!!!! I am going to watch those again now.

I know that Bacall could be a bitch, but I fell in LOVE with her in those 1979 Cavett interviews. Tough, yet beautiful and charming.

by Anonymousreply 354May 25, 2019 10:26 PM

William Kennedy Smith left a lot of other victims in his wake. The prosecution had either identified other prior victims (from tips and investigation) and there were a number in the Washington DC area. One of the local prosecutor's offices was handling some of the interviews of these women who had been identified in the area cooperating with the PB prosecutor. There were similarities but the Palm Beach judge ruled there weren't enough commonalities in the prior incidents/assaults to admit them in as evidence to show a pattern of conduct. I can't remember all the details but I felt there were more that should have been admitted than were. One of the young women was a med student and one's family sent her out of the country to avoid a subpoena.

I would hardly believe the Secret Service agents about Hillary or Bill. I've known too many not to know what right wing cowboys most of them are.

by Anonymousreply 355May 25, 2019 10:39 PM

It's very funny. 'She was mean.'

Bacall comes across wonderfully in most of her interviews. Very charming, classy, smart, and self deprecating. But she was unpleasant to me when I was trying to help her as a clerk and outright nasty to a friend of mine. I enjoy her interviews enormously but I know that's not really her. Or maybe it's simply one of her sides. But there are others you don't want to know about. On youtube just type in 'Judy Crown Bacall' and it will probably come up.

by Anonymousreply 356May 25, 2019 10:40 PM

I agree with r355 on secret service agents. I would not put it past them to trash the Clinton's just because they didn't like them or thought they were decadent liberals or something. Regarding the Kennedy's, I really believe the Kennedy's have a genetic predisposition to psychopathy . Every family has a bad apple but the sheer amount of criminal misbehavior in that clan seems disproportionate .

by Anonymousreply 357May 25, 2019 10:54 PM

I got to meet and hang out a little bit with Bacall in a work setting many years ago. She was relaxed, and also very quirky and delightful. But also a bit intense. I could see that she was a person who might come off a bit harsh at times.

by Anonymousreply 358May 25, 2019 10:57 PM

That's good to hear R358 because despite my own unhappy experience with her I still enjoy her work enormously. I mean it wasn't that terrible, she just seemed very unhappy and grouchy so that I knew if I told her how much I liked her work it seemed like it would have been a bad idea.

by Anonymousreply 359May 25, 2019 11:07 PM

Getting cunted by Bacall was an honor. A good cunt episode thrown at you by Bacall was like a blessing from the Pope.

by Anonymousreply 360May 25, 2019 11:09 PM

Joan Rivers (or rather her reputation) was very lucky to have died when she did, because I bet she would have been a Trumper like Roxanne, and many of her fans would have ¨cancelled¨her.

by Anonymousreply 361May 25, 2019 11:11 PM

R361, Yeah, Joan would not have survived the Trump or #MeToo years. She would have been "cancelled" more times than Roseanne. She would have been one of Trump's biggest supporters, and told actresses to stop whining.

by Anonymousreply 362May 25, 2019 11:15 PM

R347- I tended to side with Carson on the whole Joan incident, although maybe there are a lot of variables there. But it seemed like Joan took the Fox deal and never said a word to Carson that she was even thinking of doing her own show. I could see where that would piss off Carson. He had given her a big break, gave her the hosting guest spot and if she felt slighted because she wasn't in line for the permanent job, then speak to him face to face about it - but don't go behind his back and line up your own show. She must have known that wouldn't go over well with him.

by Anonymousreply 363May 25, 2019 11:22 PM

At this point, I will never believe the negative things said about Hillary Clinton, especially if they're said by a man. The right wing seriously overplayed their hand and, to mix metaphors, cried wolf way, way too often about her personality, machinations, ankles, etc. It's easier to assume they're all partisan lies, even though I know it's not possible for someone to be great 100% of the time. In short, given the right wing's track record, it's much more likely that it's more character assassination like what they've been doing for 30+ years.

by Anonymousreply 364May 25, 2019 11:25 PM

She honestly says it was totally behind his back because she claims there was no other way. But word clearly got to him before she called to tell him because he found it a total betrayal. It seems they both handled it badly.

by Anonymousreply 365May 25, 2019 11:31 PM

Carson seems like a controlling cunt to me. He gets to choose who takes over the show after he retires. He gets to choose what a guest host goes with his career.

Fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 366May 25, 2019 11:33 PM

R365- How could she claim there 'was no other way'? I could understand if Carson had been treating her like crap for years but there was no hint of that in public - unless he was badmouthing her behind the scenes? But all she had to do was pick up the phone and explain her side of it. That couldn't have turned out any worse than it did.

by Anonymousreply 367May 25, 2019 11:38 PM
I really haven't heard a single bad story about Joan.

Then you really need to see "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work," a documentary film which she cooperated with.

by Anonymousreply 368May 25, 2019 11:38 PM

This is a quote from her that I find suspicious-

"I adored Johnny. In the ’70s, I did opening monologues, I was hosting. The turning point was when I left the show. Everybody left the show to go to do their own shows. Bill Cosby. David Brenner. George Carlin. Everybody. I stuck around for 18 years. And they finally offered me my own late-night show.

The first person I called was Johnny, and he hung up on me -- and never, ever spoke to me again. And then denied that I called him. I couldn’t figure it out. I would see him in a restaurant and go over and say hello. He wouldn’t talk to me."

Obviously, she's leaving out the lead up to Fox offering her a show. It's not like they just phoned her one night, off the cuff. There must have been a lot of negotiations and dealings before the offer - did she think that Carson wouldn't have gotten wind of it?

Also- maybe it wasn't that he denied she called him after the fact, maybe the denial was that she didn't call him the minute she was reaching out to get other opportunities.

The whole quote seems very disingenuous.

by Anonymousreply 369May 25, 2019 11:51 PM

Team Johnny. Show biz is a filthy business. Joan just got caught with her knickers down and then tried to fling her shit everywhere and Carson was having none of it.

by Anonymousreply 370May 25, 2019 11:55 PM

Johnny Carson was infamously an asshole when the cameras were off. Not always, no, but he could be horrific. Held grudges (as did Sinatra), ghosted anyone who he felt did him wrong. Was a nasty drunk. And Joan handled that whole thing poorly, too. A perfect storm. I agree with everyone else that she should have let him know way before she did. I think she should have spoken to him right from the start that she was thinking about her own show. Hell, maybe Johnny could even have helped her. She acted like it was all about business and "just business," but that is not what Johnny thought. Whenever anyone forgets the human equation and people are involved, people who have emotions, things go wrong.

The two stories I always heard about Joan: if someone approached her in line at Starbucks or whatever, she was not only charming and appreciative but would insist on buying their order. And if a woman complimented any piece of Joan Rivers QVC jewelry she was wearing, she would remove it and insist they take it as a gift.

It sounds both like being nice and, more shrewdly, giving people a story they would tell the rest of their lives.

Current gossip: A friend just spent much of the day with Kenan Thompson at the NBC upfronts in New York and said he was thoughtful, polite, bright and absolutely reeked of weed. Apparently Kenan was vaping in the men's room at every opportunity.

r381 the troopers who were working his security detail were pissed at Hillary because she was a cunt for screaming at them. They were doing their jobs, and they unfortunately got put in the middle of a bad situation through no fault of their own. They were assigned the job, and probably couldn't refuse it without repercussions.

Some of the wilder ones might have stepped over the line, and gotten a thrill out of it. The professional ones would have been pissed as hell. Not only do they have to provide security, but they have to run a fucking quasi-spy level operation to move him to all his encounters. Then, they have to stand around while he gets serviced. And if it ever goes public and the shit hits the fan--who gets fired? Not the fucking higher-ups who ordered them on that detail; it never is.

r357 the Secret Service agents, at least the old school, good ones don't give a fuck about someone's politics. Like many in the military, they have a hierarchical culture of respect. They are respectful and know their place, but they also expect a basic level of civility back, especially considering they can, & have, taken fire for Presidents.

Ted Danson is very down to Earth. Timothy Olyphant too. Sean William Scott and Wilmer Valderama seem too nice. Same with Reese. Her bodyguard is a complete idiot too. He nearly got production shut down by beating up a 16 year old learning to drive.

I know many people have had bad run ins with David Boreanaz but all my experiences have been positive.

by Anonymousreply 406May 27, 2019 9:49 AM

I've had Kevin Bishop wait on my table when I lived in Brighton circa 2000-2002 ish.

He was lovely. I was polite and respectful.

Because nice people employ sociopaths without having a production company checking his background?!

R400 Like they (the regular cast) didn't mess up lines all the fucking time! Check the bloopers. Some are repeat offenders.

R404 Rachel always had two sisters.

R406 What's this story about the bodyguard? And for Boreanaz, are you an "underling"? I've never heard about him being nice to one of the "little people".

by Anonymousreply 411May 27, 2019 10:15 AM

R406 Wilmer comes off as a total sleazebag. Idk what the fuck Demi ever saw in him.

More dirt on Babs please!

by Anonymousreply 413May 27, 2019 10:25 AM

R410 He had been in something around the time - it was enough for me to recognise him. I didn't say, "Are you that guy from the telly?" but i did recognise him.

I had a Full English Breakfast I know that and it was on the seafront.

Helen Baxendale who played Ross's English wife Emily on Friends did an interview a few years ago saying even though Friends was a huge worldwide hit, she couldn't wait to leave and turned down an offer to rejoin.

Safe to say she made the right choice. I can't imagine Emily was a popular character while Friends was on the air.

Kevin Bacon used to wait at the Allstate Cafe on 72nd St on the UWS when he was trying to break in to the business. Even as a waiter, he was a creep. He got fired for his attitude. And if he had that kind of attitude as a waiter, imagine him as a star.

by Anonymousreply 421May 27, 2019 3:16 PM

R420 She wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 422May 27, 2019 3:23 PM

Kevin Bacon has the face of a creep, so no surprise there.

Kevin Bacon was very nice during my interactions with him in the 1980s.

The best story I ever heard was Andy Cohen at Art Basil - he went to a restaurant for lunch and had a security detail who stood around his table to prevent people from seeing him. Like he was Madonna or something. I remember the waiter or someone in the restaurant posted saying NO ONE wanted to come up to him and wondered out loud why he would do that..lol

by Anonymousreply 428May 27, 2019 3:51 PM

Still waiting for R375 to explain what he's talking about.

by Anonymousreply 429May 27, 2019 8:35 PM

John McAfee. Yes, that asshole. On the run from the legal system in Belize where, for some reason they think he got up to hijinks involving multiple murders. Filthy rich.

I was at a conference in Las Vegas with many thousands of other people. It’s one of those hotels where you have no choice but to use the elevator that goes to your floor; you can’t go to another elevator. McAfee decided nobody should use that elevator and had his goons block it off for his exclusive use.

I called the Las Vegas sheriff when I saw his goon had a gun. Naughty. So I filed a complaint that he was using unlawful force to detain us. 3 police cars showed up, took his goons into custody.

That evening, my company (meaning, me and my sales guy) were hosting a private event in that hotel. It was not public. It was not an invite your sorry drugged up drunken ass. In stumbles John McAfee who goes full on Reverend Jim as if he’s invited. Nobody invited him. He’s completely out of control, on a tired about McAfee Software, the government of Belize, and jesus who knows. Everything up to the Trilateral Commission and the Bavarian Illuminati.

Fortunately a quick-thinking hostess at the event told him his table at an exclusive restaurant was ready and he left, goons in tow. There was no table for him, they were going to escort him back to his room.

The guy was bonkers.

by Anonymousreply 430May 27, 2019 8:52 PM

R428 is really doing Cohen some favors by calling him a Clooney lookalike. Granted, I don't find him unattractive at all, but he seems like a horrid person to be around.

by Anonymousreply 431May 27, 2019 9:05 PM

David Boreanaz demanded and received Norma Desmond hours, 9am-3pm, the last few seasons of Bones.

Impressive considering Emily Deschanel was number one on the callsheet and had a newborn at home.

by Anonymousreply 432May 27, 2019 9:05 PM

How about Zooey Deschanel?

by Anonymousreply 433May 27, 2019 9:10 PM

I work in London in a call centre for actors - a lot of them have James Corden stories.

by Anonymousreply 434May 27, 2019 9:18 PM

I hope Mrs. Boreanaz makes liberal use of her husband's credit cards. He's an infamous dick, which makes me wonder why Charisma (who by all accounts is lovely) is close to him still.

by Anonymousreply 439May 27, 2019 10:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 440May 27, 2019 10:35 PM

Bodyguards are a way of drawing attention to yourself, if you are a minor celebrity whom nobody recognizes. Why not, if you can afford it!

It's also a way of keeping a muscular man in tow, if you aren't a big enough celebrity to get laid.

by Anonymousreply 441May 27, 2019 11:20 PM

R440. Oh my. There have been multiple snapchat fishing attacks, so your thought is certainly viable.

by Anonymousreply 442May 27, 2019 11:34 PM

I never said Rachel didn't have 2 sisters, R411. R401 said they recast the sister role because Reese wouldnt reprise it. Then he doubles down on his delusion by saying they created the 2nd sister because of that. Either he.doesn't know what recast means or he really doesn't like to be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 443May 27, 2019 11:55 PM

Not that they matter anymore but Barbara Mandrell and Reba are bitches.

by Anonymousreply 444May 28, 2019 12:28 AM

Someone I know worked on a promotional shoot with the women from Sex and the City (the TV show.) Well, not all of them. A few days before the shoot, SJP made it clear that she wouldn't participate. That was odd as the shoot related to the syndication of the show. As not only the star but one of the executive producers, you'd think she'd want the syndicated launch to be successful. At any rate, none of the remaining actresses were at the shoot at the same time. My friend said Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon were rather sullen and not happy to be there as they weren't getting paid (unless you consider tons of residuals as "pay.") The last to arrive was Kim Cattrall and my friend said she couldn't have been nicer. She introduced herself personally to everyone on the set. She was curious about everything, especially the final product and stayed twice as long as the other two, asking over and over "Is there anything else you'd like me to do?"

It's that story that, despite what the internet may say, puts me firmly on Team Kattrall.

by Anonymousreply 445May 28, 2019 1:00 AM

Who knew so many people had such a detailed knowledge of the worst tv show of all time (Friends)?

by Anonymousreply 446May 28, 2019 1:09 AM

I know Kim and love her. Sarah Jessica is best friends with Andy (So You Really Think I Look Like Clooney?)Cohen. So that tells you something.

by Anonymousreply 447May 28, 2019 3:36 AM

Kim seems like the real deal and someone you'd want on your side.

by Anonymousreply 448May 28, 2019 3:39 AM

All are second (but not third, I am good friends with the person I got all this from) hand:

- James Corden absolute cunt confirmed. 99% of everyone who worked with him in the UK hates him. Self-important, whiny, extremely lucky and yet lives in a state of genuine butthurt anger that his genius has not yet been sufficiently recognized by the world.

- Adele totally fake af. Still puts on her working class accent and "just a humble Sarf London girl" act but is actually a demanding and unpleasant.

- Peter Dinklage, not sure if he was having a bad day but was apparently dismissive towards a young male fan with dwarfism who effusively thanked the actor for making dwarfism more visible and 'normal.' PD went all 'serious acTOR' and basically dismissed the kid/said his dwarfism isn't a factor in his life/basically gave the kid the whole "if it's a thing for you to have dwarfism that's your problem and you need to get over it" schtick. Person who witnessed this said the kid was visibly chastised. I can see getting touchy if someone wants to go on about his condition in an interview etc., but given this fan also had dwarfism it just seems a bit of an uncharitable response from PD. He was greeting fans at the time and no one was intruding on a private moment.

- Tom Cruise is "on" at all times, including in parking garages with strangers who think he looks familiar. "HI! I'M TOM CRUISE!!" *enthusiastic handshake, big Hollywood grin*

(friend didn't dislike Cruise, just found his manner entertaining)

by Anonymousreply 449May 28, 2019 4:32 AM

R449 none of those stories sound farfetched to me.

by Anonymousreply 450May 28, 2019 4:44 AM

Adele aint from Sarf London! That Singing Sow is from the other side of "the river". Don't blame her on us.

by Anonymousreply 451May 28, 2019 7:54 AM

R449 Poor kid! I’ve always had the impression that Dinklage is quite pompous and seems to think the sun shines out of his arse.

by Anonymousreply 452May 28, 2019 8:04 AM

R452 Dinklage doesn't sound overly personable. Probably hates interacting with fans.

by Anonymousreply 453May 28, 2019 8:22 AM

Fans can be quite intrusive and disrespectful. Some even think celebrities are like leprechauns in the sense that when the fan catches him or her on the street the celeb must fulfill the fan's every wish or desire and if not the celeb is a stuck up cunt who treats all of his fans poorly.

by Anonymousreply 454May 28, 2019 9:16 AM

GREAT thread. Keep it comin! I always knew Corden was a genuine Carpool CUNT!

by Anonymousreply 455May 28, 2019 9:27 AM

We knew an eldersister interior decorator in LA. She was NOT fabulous but she was interesting. She told of how she once got into an elevator at Bullock's Wilshire in the 1940s or 1950s. She noticed she was the only one in the elevator until it stopped at a floor and a very well dressed fish got in. The fish turned to eldersister and said "I am the only person who is supposed to be riding in this elevator". It was Joan Crawford.

by Anonymousreply 456May 28, 2019 9:31 AM

I'm torn on the Dinklage story; maybe it was some tough but real talk that will benefit the kid.

If James Corden is so awful (I'll admit I don't watch late night TV and barely know who he is), what accounts for his success? I do know he did that car riding thing with Barbra. Did they out-cunt-cancel each other?

by Anonymousreply 457May 28, 2019 1:27 PM

Guys like Corden succeed when celebrities see that they can get good publicity out of it. Car Pool Karaoke was a stroke of genius making this twat popular and get the guests great publicity for being a good sport (and good singer).

by Anonymousreply 458May 28, 2019 1:30 PM

R457 A friend of mine bumped into Dinklage and congratulated him on his work, Dinklage brushed him aside with an 'ugh!', so I don't think he was being firm but fair with the kid at R449, just being his cunty self. As for awful people being successful , if you look at the horrors in prominent positions in our world ( like President ), being awful seems a prerequisite.

by Anonymousreply 459May 28, 2019 1:40 PM

Like somebody said " The fans don't really want to know me, they want me to know them"

by Anonymousreply 460May 28, 2019 1:44 PM

I once watched Nene Leakes swan past a couple of adoring fans, her nose up in the air, disdainful. One of the fans (not me, I'm not a fan) was devastated that Nene wouldn't engage.

by Anonymousreply 461May 28, 2019 1:45 PM

Sheer persistence and a massive ego I think R457. I remember him saying that when he couldn't get anyone to do carpool Karaoke he'd drive round knocking on the doors of celebrities' homes or something like that. Most people wouldn't have that level of self-belief and willingness to cause offence.

by Anonymousreply 462May 28, 2019 1:45 PM

R460 If they didn't have all consuming egos that impelled them to become public figures they could go about in blissful anonymity, but clearly they crave attention too much.

by Anonymousreply 463May 28, 2019 1:49 PM

I imagine there are two reasons people become actors - one, for attention. Two, to be an artist, interpret and express a role creatively. The two drives probably overlap, but for some it's maybe one or the other. Personally I'd love to act, but I would never want to be famous. All the hassle with fans – to quote Dinklage, UGH.

by Anonymousreply 464May 28, 2019 1:54 PM

R464 They could become the kind of artist who isn't bothered in the street, a director for instance, but they prefer to be looked at, except when they don't.

by Anonymousreply 465May 28, 2019 2:00 PM

A friend of mine was at some sort of martial arts event in London a couple of months ago (she got free tickets and had never been to anything like it before). She realised she and her boyfriend were next to Tom Hardy, who was there on his own, no entourage. They chatted throughout the evening and he was apparently completely lovely.

by Anonymousreply 466May 28, 2019 2:01 PM

R464 I love the expressive side and the creativity of being an artist, but sadly I hate most audiences. Result of this is my creative outlet is strictly at home and/or with friends. You would have to pay me major money for me to do anything artistic in front of a regular audience.

by Anonymousreply 467May 28, 2019 2:02 PM

Cool story R466. I've met a few artists completely by accident, and they were lovely. The thing is, if you meet an artist you like, be kind about it - don't be a jerk. And if it's someone you don't like, then you don't have to acknowledge them.

by Anonymousreply 468May 28, 2019 2:04 PM

This insane belief that celebrities are like leprechauns is very well-described at R454. Celibrities have lives that in some cases are just as shitty as ours, sometimes shittier. Some are abused by the people supposedly looking after their best interests. Etc. Others are sociopaths themselves.

by Anonymousreply 469May 28, 2019 2:08 PM

R469 Unfortunately 'celebs' have, by inflicting themselves on the public, entered into a pact with the devil that gives them fame but deprives them of privacy. A friend of mine was in a soap many years ago and is still bothered , sometimes aggressively, by strangers, that's the deal.

by Anonymousreply 470May 28, 2019 2:18 PM

Met Michele Lee, Angela Lansbury, and Estelle Getty. All were nice but Estelle was a little off at that point. While in undergrad, I got lost in the media area of the UN...ran into Dan Quayle. He was very nice and talked with me and my friend for a little bit. Helped us get to the CBC offices. While in elementary school, participated in a race and won. I received my medal from Elizabeth Taylor - she was great and posed for pictures.

Family member is in the secret service...worked for Cheney. Said that Nancy R. was awful to work with. Hillary was distant but did recognize birthdays. Barbara B. was the most gracious. Said that Cheney and his wife were horrible and entitled.

by Anonymousreply 471May 28, 2019 2:27 PM

For me, I've discovered that the ones with all the actual talent and who seem to act/sing/dance because they really HAVE to (those who have the gift know that, even if you weren't famous, you'd still be performing in community theatre somewhere just to do the work) are the loveliest and most down to earth. The ones who act entitled and bitchy are usually the ones who aren't terribly talented and who fell into the business due to looks, connections, etc. I think the reason they're like this is because, deep down, they know that they're in the waitroom for obscurity. They have an expiration date looming over their heads at all times and it drives them insane.

However, I don't understand why genuinely talented people like Streisand would be so cunty. Maybe because the world never recognized her as the brilliant dramatic actress she thinks she is. Truth be told, she's always been a lousy dramatic actress and a brilliant comedienne. If she'd embraced this, she'd be more relevant today. She's a pretty good director, too, and I can see why she'd be bitter that people so rarely recognize her for that work.
was Reese exempt from the mistreatment when she was a guest on Friends?

No, she was not. The cast of Friends was notoriously cliquish and chilly to guests.

Reese was getting more laughs than Aniston, so Aniston made sure that her multi-ep gig was cut short.

Reese was glad to be told.

by Anonymousreply 473May 28, 2019 5:51 PM

Both Witherspoon and Applegate were brilliant and hilarious as Rachel's sisters. I'm guessing Applegate got along better with the cast since she did return later.

by Anonymousreply 474May 28, 2019 5:56 PM

Friend of mine was a promoter in ATL. He got The Tabernacle for a Grace Jones concert. We partied with her at Backstreet after her concert. I did coke with her in the employee private bathroom and she told me her son with Dolph had a huge dick. She also hooked up with her female chauffer driver that night. …..She was a BLAST!

by Anonymousreply 475May 28, 2019 5:58 PM

She was a "blast?" She sounds like a mess. And you are too. You "did coke" with her? Are you visiting from 1982?

by Anonymousreply 476May 28, 2019 6:01 PM
Both Witherspoon and Applegate were brilliant and hilarious as Rachel's sisters. I'm guessing Applegate got along better with the cast since she did return later.

Applegate wasn't as big a threat to them. Reese was a big movie star who was basically slumming by being on their. albeit hit, TV show. Nowadays, movie stars are on TV all the time, but back then she was doing them a favor.

by Anonymousreply 477May 28, 2019 6:02 PM

A friend of mine is a close friend of Mick Fleetwood's daughter. She took him to a small party in Stevie Nicks hotel room after a Fleetwood Mac show and Steve said, very sarcastically, "Yeah, that's right, smoke pot with Stevie after the show." My friend said he felt uncomfortable and thought it was a bit presumptuous for Stevie to think Mick's daughter brought her friends there for fanfare. Courtney Love was at the same gathering and was in the back bedroom and threw a pillow at the door and told Mick's daughter and her friends to get the fuck out.

by Anonymousreply 479May 28, 2019 6:05 PM

R471 I met Michelle Lee too. I helped her out with some decorative piece she was buying for her home. She was very happy with it and gave me a hug. I never mentioned that I knew who she was and I think she took a liking towards me. Overall very friendly. Same experience with Goldie Hawn. Very appreciative and friendly.

by Anonymousreply 480May 28, 2019 6:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 481May 28, 2019 6:11 PM

R475 I had a friend who was a photographer and worked with Grace Jones when she was filming the movie, Vamp. He told me that Robert Rusler was a "tasty bottom."

I know I'll get groans -- but met Travolta recently and he couldn't have been kinder or more gracious. Totally engaged (in a non-creepy way) and present in the conversation and no airs. Also recently encountered Chris Pine randomly out in LA and he was super chill. Definitely trying to fly low, but was friendly and soaking up the room. Having worked briefly with Joan Rivers a decade ago, I'll echo the love fest above and say that she was a truly lovely, and had almost an apologetic presence -- quite humble and shy in spite of her success. And funny as hell!

by Anonymousreply 489May 28, 2019 8:56 PM

I haven't done coke in over ten years, but I would do it today with Grace Jones.

by Anonymousreply 490May 28, 2019 9:04 PM

I spent some time with Travolta many years ago when Welcome Back Kotter had just hit the air, and I also had a wonderful experience. He was gracious, naturally polite, and as R489 said, totally engaged and present in the conversation. If you want to see the John Travolta I knew watch that movie Michael where he plays the angel come back to earth.

by Anonymousreply 491May 28, 2019 9:05 PM

Travolta is generally known to be nice. Which makes his harrassing of masseurs even more baffling.

by Anonymousreply 492May 28, 2019 9:08 PM

People only have nice things to say about Tom Cruise and John Travolta, but the two of them have kept the $cieno cult alive, which is unforgivable.

by Anonymousreply 493May 28, 2019 9:09 PM

Robert Russler was a bottom? I know he's married with kids now. Then again, so is his Weird Science (and real life) buddy Robert Downey Jr and he's had gay/bi rumors for years. Russler was hot. I'm happy to know he's at least dabbled in the man pond.

by Anonymousreply 497May 28, 2019 9:37 PM

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are lovely people as well. Met them at a party many moons ago and were totally wonderful, down to earth. Also encountered Marty Short -- not sure if I caught him at a bad moment, but he was a real dick. And I witnessed it with others in the room. Couldn't be bothered by anyone who wasn't A-list. A real shame as I love Short and had previously only heard he was the nicest guy in showbiz. It made me wonder if his self-important/smarmy talk show guest persona was actually that far removed....a real bummer! Catherine O'Hara is just as wonderful as you'd expect her to be, however! So warm and FUNNY...same goes for Eugene Levy, tho he comes across a little more serious.

by Anonymousreply 498May 28, 2019 9:42 PM

My only first hand account of Chris Pine is looking at his hairy feet while he was lying on a stretcher filming a scene for Wet Hot American Summer in downtown LA.

by Anonymousreply 499May 28, 2019 9:48 PM
I love Short and had previously only heard he was the nicest guy in showbiz.

You heard wrong. Everybody HATES him.

by Anonymousreply 500May 28, 2019 9:54 PM

Like R499, I'd also read that Short was one of the nicest people in show biz, someone genuinely decent in an entertainment genre known for bitter, angry players. I swear that DL is one of the places that I read about it. How did he manage to pull off such a feat? Incredible PR, sympathy due to his wife's untimely death, because he's Canadian? Yes, yes, that's why she barely squeezed a win in the primaries and lost the popular vote in the general... oh, wait.

“Madonna was also responsible for halting the album Debbie recorded with Jellybean in 1985”

Everything points to Madonna as a selfish hag.

I ran into Jessie Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family at Target in Glendale, shopping for towels. I told him I enjoyed his show and he would not acknowledge me. This was during the first season, and he was not very famous, or attractive, a real shit. Met Reba on the set of her TV show and she is warm and friendly.

R503, what's weird is that Madonna had Debbie Harry's image with Donna Summer's music. I've read Madonna claiming she looked up to Debbie Harry so I don't know why she'd ignore her.

R504 the whole cast of modern family seems to think way too highly of themselves. Didn't Ed O'Neill throw a little bitch fit because one of the modern family cast members lost an Emmy award ? It was so ridiculous because none of the actors on that show are very good.

by Anonymousreply 509May 29, 2019 12:03 AM

R509 Agreed, very mediocre group of standard , flat characters.

by Anonymousreply 510May 29, 2019 12:05 AM

R500 -- Could you elaborate at all? The only other concrete story I heard about him being a jerk was while he was on Celebrity Jeopardy. I guess he was insufferable and cast a dark cloud on the set. Very demanding and prickly. I think it was Rob Marshall or Marc Shaiman who quipped to Short that his Glick character finally provided him an "opportunity to be as nasty and cutting as you are in life!" They're all pals but it's a telling observation...

by Anonymousreply 511May 29, 2019 12:56 AM
The ones who act entitled and bitchy are usually the ones who aren't terribly talented and who fell into the business due to looks, connections, etc. I think the reason they're like this is because, deep down, they know that they're in the waitroom for obscurity. They have an expiration date looming over their heads at all times and it drives them insane.

A good explanation for why most CW sets are so messy.

We knew a sister who worked with Miss Travolta on Staying alive. She said that Missy was a vile nasty queen, but with sizemeat.

by Anonymousreply 515May 29, 2019 8:38 AM

One can only suppose that Travolta's niceness and open countenance could be easily exploited by David Miscavige and his Scientology hounds from hell. Travolta's "niceness" also likely speaks to an incredibly weak-willed man overridden and destroyed by the Scientology cult. Travolta's assaults against his "male massage therapists" really do seem anomalous for his usual "nice" person.

According to Tony Ortega, Miscavige HATES Travolta with a passion, even preventing him from gaining the highest status in the "church," the OT-VIII which can only be obtained on the cult's floating Measles Ship staffed by young slaves signed away by their parents when they were underaged.

I suspect that anything bad that happens to Travolta will come from David Miscavige's oily, slimy, and unfathomably short, stubby body topped by his blistered lollipop countenance.

by Anonymousreply 516May 29, 2019 9:00 AM

One of the biggest entertainment reporters in the 80s/90s, said that Travolta was one of the nicest of anyone- and he interviewed them all including Bette Davis, who he also liked. Both wrote thank you notes.

Thanks for the stories about Catherine O'Hara. She's one of those with real talent, and yet she's going to be modest and self-deprecating. She's got real charm, too. Don't know what she's like in person. She's funny for sure.

by Anonymousreply 519May 29, 2019 10:01 AM

Really not trying to be THAT guy (because he’s the worst, amirite?) BUT after a certain age--or more specifically--when you begin to understand boundaries, what’s the appeal of talking to a Jesse Tyler Ferguson when you see him at Target? Even asking someone for an autograph (unless you’re going to sell it)? I can understand if you’re sitting next to the person or at a private party or standing in a long-ass line at Starbucks, and the celebrity begins the conversation.

But what makes you forget that people have boundaries and maybe--just maybe--they don’t care what you have to say about their work? I would be so tempted, BUT I’d also be afraid of being...disappointed. I mean...I can barely handle rejection from a nobody--let alone someone I’m a fan of. I might just start drawing red circles with lines through them over their photos. JK….......yeah.

My late aunt was very good friends with the maid of Barbara Mandrell and her sisters. She said Barbara was a holy terror. Nothing was ever good enough & she was a screaming witch. Her friend would come home from work in tears. She said Barbara's husband was the exact opposite. He was always apologizing for his wife's bad behavior. She said Barbara's sisters were nothing like Barbara. Very kind & appreciative.

Garth Brooks, his first wife & kids rented the house next door to my aunt. This was the year he first hit it big. My aunt said Garth couldn't be a kinder man. She thought he was the bees knees. He was always concerned if his music playing was interfering in any way. He was always doing things out of the blue for her just to be kind-- bringing her a fresh turkey/ham for the holidays, bringing her baskets of peaches or strawberries in season, etc...

His wife on the other hand was awful. She would chase Garth into the yard & try to physically fight him. She was always screaming at the kids in a very nasty. My aunt said she could never understand why Garth married such a nasty woman.

by Anonymousreply 524May 29, 2019 11:22 AM

It's true, I've been following gossip about Travolta for decades, and nobody has a bad word to say about him except male massage therapists. His career is based on personal charm, and he uses it in real life.

There have also been a steady trickle of rumors that he wants out of Scientology and they're using blackmail to keep him officially in the fold, which may have something to do with his lack of high rank and a poor relationship with the high mucketymucks.

by Anonymousreply 525May 29, 2019 2:12 PM

R522, it was the old Hamlet on Sunset and no she did not.

by Anonymousreply 526May 29, 2019 3:11 PM

There's been so many stories about Travolta I'm surprised anyone would be shocked. His ex boyfriend sold a story to the Enquirer, and that was back in the 80s.

by Anonymousreply 527May 29, 2019 3:15 PM

Here's a nice celeb story. I've known Cher since I was a gayling and used to go to parties at her house in Benedict Canyon back in the 80s. Always send her flowers for her birthday or at Christmas.

Anyway, when she was doing her residency at CP in 2010, I took a friend at the last minute and paid for tickets. When we went backstage, she said I didn't see you on the list. Before I left, she said make sure we have your current address.

About 2 weeks later I received a signed hardcover Burlesque book and cocktail shaker. Cher didn't have to do that, but I'm glad she did and a reason I never take advantage.

by Anonymousreply 528May 29, 2019 4:27 PM

I don’t find the incident at R432 all that rude. If he was renegotiating his contract and didn’t want to stay, but knew he was essential to the will they/won’t they crux of the show, I don’t see why asking for more reasonable hours in exchange for staying and everyone keeping their job is such a big deal.

by Anonymousreply 530May 29, 2019 5:17 PM

The Martin Short ‘nicest guy in show business’ seems to be widespread opinion; I’m curious to hear more of the less than wonderful stories like those already posted here. His wife died a while ago so maybe some of the bad behavior was in the period after her death? People can really act out emotionally when grieving. They’d allegedly been happily married for decades so maybe he handled grief badly.

I’m curious about these ‘nicest people in Hollywood’ reputations - Tom Hanks is another one who comes to mind.

by Anonymousreply 531May 29, 2019 5:46 PM

Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund is a nasty, arrogant prick.

by Anonymousreply 532May 29, 2019 5:52 PM

I've met Leslie Jordan many times. He's exactly as you'd think. Poured forth with stories, jokes, dirty videos and stories... The man is a tireless scream

by Anonymousreply 533May 29, 2019 6:10 PM

R531 - My Martin Short encounters were in the early-mid 2000s, so I can't chalk up the jerkish behavior to grieving his wife. Jerry Seinfeld is another one who's beyond smug -- but I don't think he tries to hide that fact. Nor he does he hold 'beloved' status like Short or Tom Hanks. Anyone who's watched 5 minutes of last season's Comedians in Cars can see it on full display. I love his sitcom, but he comes off in life as a pretentious git! I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had equally prickly encounters with Short though, as his PR is all "nicest guy in the biz / the one clown laughing on the inside". For the record -- Tom Hanks is about is kind, approachable and funny as you'd hope him to be. I know people are always looking for the dark cloud behind the silver lining with him -- but he's the genuine article.

r77 I good friend of mine works in reality TV. She has been offered numerous time to work on the Kardashians but she has turned it down, but she knows the production crew on the show. I have asked her numerous times for gossip and she always tells me the same thing. They are easy to work with and that Kim is known for being really sweet.

If you think about it that family has done nothing fucked up to earn the massive amount of hatred they get directed at them. People just hate them because they are rich, female and plastic surgery addicts. Oh, and I do think some of the hatred is because most of them like to fuck Black people. I think that brings out venom in racists and makes them feel valid in saying horrible things about them. When I was a kid they'd be called nigger lovers by red faced, vein popping, seething with hatred racist mother fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 537May 29, 2019 7:25 PM

My hairdresser friend did the hair for the girls in the B-52s before a concert at Humphrey's By the Bay in San Diego. I don't know why, because with their wild hairstyles you would think they would have their own hairdresser with them on tour. Afterwards he told me that Cindy was laid back, easygoing and a little tipsy. But Kate was a queen bee; imperious and demanding. She kept saying to him, "Don't look at me. Don't look at me." Finally in exasperation he said in a raised voice, "Honey, how can I do your hair without looking at you?!!!!" After that she stayed quiet for a while.

by Anonymousreply 545May 29, 2019 8:09 PM

A fabulous eldersister hairdresser we knew related this story that happened long ago. "I was riding with a wig box in the elevator of the Continental Plaza where I worked in the salon at the top floor. The elevator stopped and in walked a blond woman. She asked what I had in the box? I said the remains of my third husband. She laughed and said it's a wig, you are a hairdresser. Could you fix my fall before I go on TV this afternoon? I said yes, but who are you? Silly, I am Zsa Zsa, who did you think I was? I thought you were a hooker! Oh no, darling, I only hook diamonds. She gave a very nice tip after the appointment.

I'm not R549 , but that seems like one area where the power differential tips away from the famous person. Seems like the Board people hold a ton of power, plus the existing residents put pressure to keep out drama.

Elizabeth Taylor was gracious and warm that time I saw her in1993. And, even in her 60s she was still far more beautiful in person than on film. The camera didn't do her justice. I think she would've been beautiful for life if not for the crumbled backbone and the tumor.

by Anonymousreply 557May 30, 2019 12:36 AM

Speaking of the lovely young girl Barbra Streisand...

I read a story years ago about a male movie costar who was told by Production that it was customary to exchange gits at the wrap of the movie, and that he should be prepared to give Barbra a gift

It was even suggested that Barbra was a serious collector of Tiffany glass and other Tiffany antiques. So the man paid someone to track down and buy an expensive Tiffany lamp to give Barbra as a movie wrap gift.

On presenting the gift, Barbra spent a long time examining the lamp and eventually seemed to approve of it. After a long awkward silence, Barbra also seemed to remember her costar was waiting expectantly.

As Barbra left with her new lamp. she indicated to her assistant that he should give her movie costar his gift - and he did.

It was a signed photograph of Barbra.

Waiting for redeye leaving Vegas. People coming off the flight I was about to take and I see this petite woman with an entourage go behind the counter to fix herself using the reflection from the window. Airport was pretty empty so no one paid attention and there sure as hell were no paps outside. I was sitting where she was in my line of sight and obviously you just watch people as they come off the flight. Entourage swarmed around her as if she was were being inundated with fans. Again, empty airport, everyone's fucking tired and no one noticed, but still, I guess Katy Perry still needs to feel like people are clamoring for her.

by Anonymousreply 569May 30, 2019 7:56 AM

I've told this story here before but it fits here so I'll repeat it. I can't even remember where I was flying to but I was at LAX at my departure gate and Marcia Cross was at the counter trying to get the agent to allow her early boarding so she wouldn't be bothered by anyone. She wasn't rude exactly, but there was definitely a demanding 'don't you know who I am' air about her. This was in the very early 2000s, long after her popularity on Melrose Place and several years before Desperate Housewives would revive it. The best part is it was Southwest Airlines so pulling the diva act was especially embarrassing for her. Bitch, you fly Southwest you ain't no better than the rest of us cattle!

by Anonymousreply 570May 30, 2019 9:03 AM

Oh yeah, Seinfeld is a prick. Didn't the others have to sue him and Larry for royalties because only THEY were receiving them from the DVD sales?

...I KNOW, right?

I remember watching that “Comedians in or with Cars” bullshit and Julia Louis-D was the guest. Specific parts of that episode still kinda stick out.

Apparently, she didn’t seemed enthused--for whatever reason--and Jerry says “Oh, come on. It’ll be fun!” Not sure if it was spending time with him OR just being talked into doing it. It also could’ve been because she’s reclusive. Fine.

What really stuck out is Jerry asking her “I’m a nice guy, right?” JLD pauses and says “You CAN be a nice guy” and he laughs. THAT spoke volumes to me. But they seemed to get along.

Also have you seen her sons? They’re both like 7 feet tall, play BB in college and are smoking hot.

Funny R567, Katy came to our musurm after hours and she had guards barring one of the exits to staff. NO ONE CARES.

Outside there was a group of preteen girls. Funny, she arrived in a car from the hotel. How did pre driving fans know she was there? It was a "secret" after hours visit!

She apparently was polite to staff. Its just the sad entourage and fan staging.

Isabella Rossolinni came for a privately guided tour during musuem hours and was interested and exceedingly polite.

Demi, Ashton and the kids came on a SATURDAY during museum hours and asked staff to "not say anything and pretend they aren't there" and they were left alone by other tourists (who admittedly did gawk but they weren't bothered I. They paid admission and bought stuff in the gift shop. Very low key and proof entourages are for generating interest.

Paula Abdul, also a cunt, pills and coke.

Daniel Craig. Normal dude, nice guy, no attitude. He had a minder with him (he was doing B'way years ago)

below info from ex-coworker:

enrique iglesias, super nice to fans. my friend said he already left the hotel but saw fans screaming his name, he stopped the car to take selfies with them.

Tom Hardy is indeed very nice and patient. my ex co-worker went up to him 3 times to ask for selfies, he said yes every time, she didn't like the picture so she kept going back to ask him for selfie. yes, this former co-worker of mine was star crazy and went to all the premieres and waited outside at their hotels just to take selfies.

Posted this before but... once took a flight from LA to NYC business class and my seat mate was Timothy Hutton. The worst body odor I have ever smelled. My flight was overbooked so there was no chance to changing seats. And, on top of that, although I tried an occasional hello, how are you sort of thing, he gave me the "I'm far too famous to talk to you, asshole" look.

Very happy his career went nowhere. And wish he had learned to take a shower now and then.

Have interviewed many celebrities over the years for magazines. A few recollections.... Jennifer Jason Leigh: Barely coherent, she looked at her publicist before and after she said anything for approval. It was like talking to a puppet. A rather dumb one. Darryl Hannah: possibly the stupidest human being I have ever met. Could be mentally-challenged. Bridget Fonda: very nice, human, and warm. Shame she decided to get out of the business. Woody Harrelson: kind of weird but willing to chat, be friendly, talk about anything at all. Spacey and pleasant. Glenne Headly: the funniest and smartest -- she's only one of two celebrities, who during the interview, asked me questions about my life. She never got the roles that really allowed her to shine. And of course, Malkovich was horrible to her. Schwarzenegger: the other celebrity who actually conversed. Surprisingly smart, funny, and self-aware.

I agree R587. I know her. Her goal was to snag a Billionaire. She dated Ron Perelman and Paul Allen but nothing came of those relationships, except the Billionaires splooge all over her face and in her wig. Interesting, years ago she was dating a movie producer who was a very nice guy and handsome too. But she thought she could do better. He went on to produce The Harry Potter Movies and become super rich.

I think it's true that Darryl has some sort of Asperger's or something.

A friend used to deliver hay to Barbara Mandrell for her horses. When she came over to the truck on one delivery someone who was on the crew spoke to her. Something innocuous like "good morning". She screamed and shrieked that he had to be removed from her property immediately, fired, and she would never use their service again if he wasn't.

I have a feeling Gina Gershon also dated Howard Stern, but he won't talk about it. I think she tried to snag him after he divorced. He's worth like $500M.
I heard that Robin Givens is very nice to hotel staff people.

She should be; at this point they're probably her co-workers.
