This is a very big reach. He said that you could find photos on the internet. So of course everyone knew that it was a reference to Ellie. It wasn't a vague answer. Ellie was already known as his girlfriend because there had been photos of them kissing, visiting events etc. So Richard was talking about his private life and about his relationship. If he didn't want to answer he'd have just said "I don't want to talk about my private life/relationships" and the reporter would have dropped the question.

He said that it’s something he wouldn’t get if he had a scene with an actress, surely he would’ve said it’s something he wouldn’t get in real life - it would’ve been the perfect opportunity to clarify his sexuality.

What months did Rocketman film? I’m assuming Richard was still with Ellie at the time. I’m just curious as to when and how Taron figured out Richard might not be the go-to guy for quotes on being a straight actor playing a gay role.

Taron isn't speaking about Richard's sexuality for the same reasons most reporters don't ask him about it, the movie is ALL about Elton, so it's ALL about Taron. It's HIS sexuality that matters because he is the only portraying the main character.

Anyway, I don't think two people is enough to mean any kind of pattern or be any kind of weird. It's only noticeable because he went from Ellie to Brandon, had it been Ellie- Jenna (who is actually a tiny bit older than him)- Brandon it wouldn't have been at all. Thank you! Finally an opinion from a professional who confirms that those photos were staged. It's not like the photos were taken from far away where the photographer couldn't have been seen by them. There are no people or obstacles blocking the view (and there would certainly be people walking, cars etc. in between the photographer and the couple if photos had been taken from long distance). It's a straight sidewalk and the photographer was standing with a big camera somewhere in front of them. It's no coincidence that they suddenly got papped in a random area that's not known for paps when they managed to not get papped before.

Except there is absolutely no reason for those photos to have been staged.

There were people walking all over that sidewalk and there were no people between the camera and Richard and Brandon. So there must have been a very short distance between camera and them. And if the photos were taken out of a car then the photos were still staged because the pap had to park his car at that exact spot before Richard and Brandon came along. The street is full of parked cars. There are no open parking spots. So the pap was obviously waiting for them at the arranged location.

If you follow the photos in order, you can SEE them realizing they’re being photographed and reacting. Their reactions are not at all what they would be if those photos were staged or planned.

It’s nonsensical to think they’d stage them. NO actor in Richard’s position, previously assumed to be totally straight, would deliberately start people questioning his sexuality for ONE role he might not even end up getting. The risk would be too great with no guarantees at all it would work out so well. Hollywood might be better than it used to be but it’s still way harder for gay actors to get cast than straight ones, especially for parts like Richard’s most famous roles- straight, leading man, romantic hero, mostly very masculine kind of roles. He’s trying to break into the American A-list and he’s on the verge of maybe actually doing it, you think he’d risk that by staging those photos? It doesn’t add up.

I don't believe in non-staged pap pics anymore (at least those pics in cities that are so clear) since Dylan O'Brien got papped in NYC randomly walking on the sidewalk and crossing the street. And when you looked at the whole series of photos the pap had taken it became clear that Dylan had walked the same sidewalk twice and even crossed the street twice into the same direction so that the pap could get all the right shots for him.

The pictures are clearly staged with intention. If they didn't want to get papped there would have been plenty of possibilities to avoid that. And photographers also don't just hang out on the street in NYC and wait until some celebrity comes along. NYC is big. They were tipped off. The fact that both their agents followed each other shortly before that also speaks volumes.

They seem to have come to an agreement that they won't totally hide. Whether it will end in Richard slowly coming out or if they just stay ambiguous like that "Richard is sometimes seen with Brandon together but still in a way that fans in denial can claim that they're just friends hanging out" has to be seen. But there's no way that those photos aren't intentional and carefully planned by their publicists. Brandon clearly wants to fully come out. He's dropping hint after hint on social media. Richard seems to prefer the more ambiguous approach. Let's see who wins in the end.
