Madonna Taking A Beating For Her Epic Fail Eurovision Performance

4. Madonna should have stayed at home

It wasn’t just that her vocals on Like A Prayer were pitchy. It wasn’t just that new song Future is lacklustre. But watching a pop icon of her stature having to endure Eurovision host chit-chat and stilted comedy based around an openly gay married man wanting to propose to her was excruciating.

Performing at one of the most important musical and artistic events in the world is bad? Americans love to trash things they are not part of. By media accounts she was bad, but the Eurovision Song Contest is a very important event with a rich tradition.

[quote]But watching a pop icon of her stature having to endure Eurovision host chit-chat and stilted comedy based around an openly gay married man wanting to propose to her was excruciating.

She got paid by a millionaire to "endure" that. And if you think chatting to a handsome gay guy for a couple of minutes in exchange for millions of dollars is something one needs to endure, then you might not be fully connected to the real world.

She was so fucking bad that I'm going to trot that clip out every time an American says Eurovision is about shit songs and shit singing. The audience looked STUNNED. But kudos to her for singing Like A Prayer live for its 30th anniversary. That took guts and should be commended. Some parts of it actually sounded amazing before the pitchiness started.

That was the worst performance, out of tune performance that Madonna has ever given. It was painful to watch.

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2019 10:24 AM

She’s got to be mixing pills and booze.

by Anonymousreply 4May 19, 2019 10:41 AM

So her eye is fucked up from some sort of procedure gone awry, right?

by Anonymousreply 5May 19, 2019 10:50 AM

There are 2 Madonna Eurovision threads going. On the other thread, someone said that a poster said that Madonna had psoriasis and arthritis. That is why she can't move, her costumes cover her whole body. The meds may have caused her weight gain.

Cyndi Lauper has spoken openly about suffering from psoriasis. I found this article that lists the warning signs. Both Madonna and Prince Charles may have psoriatic arthritis. The list mentions eye problems (Madonna), red skin and sausage fingers (Prince Charles).

Vocal coach on Madonna at Eurovision.

I'm a fan of Madonna's work from her first albums through Confessions on a Dance Floor. After that, not so much. But that was an atrocious performance. If she can't get her voice up a decent level again, she should really call it a day. She has an amazing amount of money, so she doesn't need to tour anymore.

Some singers have lost their voices even younger though. She should've been working with a vocal coach and practicing more and it might not have gotten so bad.

I love that vocal coach R7 posted. She's honest and tries to be as nice as possible. Maybe Madonna should hire her.

Why are there so many hate on Madonna threads?

by Anonymousreply 9May 21, 2019 11:20 PM

Will the slow, lethargic songs from MADAME X be lip-synched since she surely won't be dancing?

by Anonymousreply 10May 21, 2019 11:27 PM

R9 There are some people who hate her on here, and least a few who seem to do it in every thread about her or if she's mentioned in one about something else.

However, this is one of the times she deserved criticism. There's really no defending of that performance.

Madonna's voice has dropped with age yet it seems like she's still trying to sing the song in its original key. She needs to lower the key to the song; that might help. But the vocal coach is right: it sounds like she doesn't practice anymore. Her breath control is bad and her support is gone. I hope she starts vocalizing before she goes on tour. Otherwise, it's going to be shocking.

Janet “sings” live.

BWAH HAHAHA HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Maybe something was going on that we just don't know about. A wardrobe malfunction or she was too hot in that heavy-ass costume and those lights OR it was too heavy for her. But her breath control is appalling in this. She misses more notes than she hits. Madge, even with her thin, reedy voice has not been known to be that pitchy and shockingly off-key. Maybe she has but it has been covered up by the media until now. Maybe she could not hear herself singing due to some acoustical thing? Whatever the reasons, that was painful to the ears. Literally. And it is not age because Cher still brings it in spades and so did Tina Turner for as long as she toured. In fact, all of the old(er) singers who keep and kept on going still had the pipes. Madonna never had that great of a voice but she sure could do a lot more to keep what she has or....had. Good lord.

by Anonymousreply 14May 22, 2019 12:41 AM

It's possible she couldn't hear the orchestral playback and so was fishing for the pitch. That's possible. I've heard her live twice and while she would occasionally stray from the pitch, it was NOTHING like this. I always admired the fact that she sang live in concert. And as far as that goes, I admire her for doing it here. But man, she should have practiced.

[quote] Why are there so many hate on Madonna threads?

Because Jabba has gone absolutely batshit crazy over the fact that Janet's Vegas residency has been a big flop.

The Guardian is a British newspaper/ news site.

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2019 4:39 AM

She has sang with sweetened playback since the beginning of her career. She’s a fucking fraud. And a total sociopath of a person. No she doesn’t kill people. But she steals from them and uses them and disregards them and never feels guilt or shame. There’s a difference between being sex positive and releasing a book called SEX. She’s ugly inside and out. Demonic even.

by Anonymousreply 18May 22, 2019 4:46 AM

It's "has sung" not "has sang." Why do so many people get this wrong? The past participle of to sing is sung, not sang. It's like when I hear people say "the show was casted." Geez people. You sound so stupid saying shit like that.

by Anonymousreply 19May 22, 2019 4:49 AM

Shut up, r19, it's already been broughten!

by Anonymousreply 20May 22, 2019 4:52 AM

Madonna sang entirely live for her first two tours (Virgin and Who's That Girl). Since then, it's been a mixture of live vocals, ones with backing tracks for assistance, and at times she lip syncs some songs totally, like Vogue and Erotica. Don't think she's ever sang either of those live since they aren't easy to pull off.

by Anonymousreply 21May 22, 2019 5:18 AM

^ Make that sung even.

by Anonymousreply 22May 22, 2019 5:25 AM

She seems tentative, and playing it safe. Of course she's been out of the loop for a few years and put on a lot of weight.

She's probably right to take it slow. But I can't help wondering if she's been 'auditioning' for the money people- trying to prove she still has what it takes for a successful tour?...

by Anonymousreply 23May 22, 2019 5:30 AM

[quote] But I can't help wondering if she's been 'auditioning' for the money people- trying to prove she still has what it takes for a successful tour?...

And now she's shown everyone the answer to that question.

by Anonymousreply 24May 22, 2019 5:50 AM

This is odd considering she still is the highest female earner on tour. That was 10 years ago.

I don’t think she’s taking care of herself. She may believe she can go on forever but we’ve all seen what egos like that do in the long run.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2019 6:37 AM

I also can't get over how she hardly moves any more. She used to be so athletic on stage. Now it seems like it's truly difficult for her to get around.

by Anonymousreply 26May 22, 2019 7:08 PM

ew, her fat thighs.
