Lady Gabriella Windsor looks like a freak.

I think Bea looks good. Fergie could have looked great, all she needed to do was go a size up
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 18, 2019 2:20 PM |
R14, I can't figure out how tall she is, although I know she's a catwalk model. Does her baby face hide her height? I only see her as teeny tiny.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 18, 2019 2:20 PM |
I do not get why Fergie always gets it wrong. If I were invited to that wedding and had made unpopular sartorial choices in the past, I would march into Harvey Nichols and enlist the aid of the personal shopper, whom I'm sure knows his/her business. Or even a salesgirl who had just been hired yesterday..
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 18, 2019 2:21 PM |
She MUST be tiny, I guess, on the catwalks through connections I suppose.

Thank God Philip didn't - heaven forbid - kill or seriously injure anyone in that car accident. What a pall that would have cast over everything.

Lady Gabriella's grandfather was Baron Günther von Reibnitz, a prominent Nazi.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 18, 2019 2:35 PM |
R33 - Agreed, she looks appalling. The Glouncesters look appalling as well - the bright red and blue combination on, who is it, Lady Rose? is also dreadful.
I don't know what happens to women when they attend royal weddings.
I think Lady Kitty Spencer is about to become engaged that 60 year old High Street chain tycoon - she was wearing an enormous diamond recently in New York but on her right hand.
But I suppose Bea and that mountebank looking for the cameras will be next, and I'm guessing that Eugenie isn't there because she's pregnant and showing, and unlike Meghan, didn't want to ruin another girl's wedding.
As for the absense of William and Kate - there's nothing in it at all, to reply to the poster from the other thread. William missed the FA cup last year due to the Sussex wedding and as patron, and with his brother and grand and plenty of other royals on hand, the Cambridges weren't really required.
Charles and Camilla do not appear anywhere, either.
With the Queen, Philip (another surprise appearance), Bea, the Gloucesters, the roster of royal guests is appropriately filled.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 18, 2019 2:37 PM |
What's this about horseface? I think Lady Gabriella is gorgeous. Her strong features perfectly suit her face. Princesses Bea and Eugenie are probably seething with jealousy they didn't get her looks.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 18, 2019 2:42 PM |
R36 - Quite a long time ago, I saw a documentary on the royals that included an interview with the then much younger Prince and Pss. Michael of Kent. Pss. Michael was asked about her Catholicism, her background, and the faint aura of disapproval around the marriage (as a divorcee and a Catholic, never mind her father's history) and she became quite defensive and actually said that apart from her mother-in-law she had a "better background" than anyone else who had married into the family. But the best moment was when the interviewer asked what would have happened if the Queen had refused permission for the marriage (yes, despite being rather far down, Prince Michael had to ask formally), and he actually replied calmly, "Well, then, I suppose we wouldn't have [married]" or words to that effect, and Marie-Christine turned and gave him a wide-eyed shocked look.

Lady Amelia Windsor's brother Edward Lord Downpatrick will be the first Roman Catholic Duke of Kent since the reformation. He's not that cute neither is the other sister Marina
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 18, 2019 2:43 PM |
R41 - Isn't Marina the rebellious child who got her nose pierced and ran off with some lowlife indulging herself in slumming before returning to the fold?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 18, 2019 2:45 PM |
R42 no that was Marina Ogilvy, Princess Alexandra's daughter. I wonder what became of her, she would be in her 50's now

“that mountebank looking for the cameras”
Bravo! I do hope he marries in, though.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 18, 2019 2:49 PM |
Marina Ogilvy's brother James was there at the wedding, I'll have to search for the older Marina. The Kents must like the name
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 18, 2019 2:49 PM |
Gabriella is another fugtastic giantess like Kate, with a face like a camel. Meghan is so much prettier and more petite.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 18, 2019 2:49 PM |
R39 - the Royal Family all have equine DNA, it's scientifically proven.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 18, 2019 2:50 PM |
R39 - Gabriella is not pretty-pretty but striking and knows how to dress her strong features and large frame. She looks handsome and elegant and her choices here are perfect. However, I disagree about Eugenie and Bea - I think Eugnie the prettiest of the three, but doesn't have the sureness of style that Gabriella has, and Bea is hopeless. Bea dresses for the girl she fantasises herself to be instead of the girl she really is. She could look much, much better, but she cannot stop dressing herself as if she were Kate Middleton, and even the tall, slim Kate with her small neat features couldn't carry off half the stuff Bea puts on.
The hat Bea is wearing is perfectly fine and I like her hair up - she has lovely skin and colouring like most of the women in the family, but like Meghan, she simply doesn't know how to dress that body. Those frills on that appalling dress hse is wearing today make Diana's merengue wedding dress look like something Carolyn Bessette would have worn.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 18, 2019 2:51 PM |
M would love to have the legs and beautiful hair of Kate and her height . You look better when you are tall and did I mention slender ?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 18, 2019 2:52 PM |
The mountebank (hat tip to the poster above) seems to have sleek, minimalist tastes, at least according to his Instagram. Why doesn’t he help Beatrice?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 18, 2019 2:53 PM |
r46 If Meghan is so much prettier that everyone else, why do you feel the need to keep drawing attention to it? If she is, it would be quite obvious. You don't need to state it. As it is, your need to attack the looks of others, whilst simultaneously attempting elevate your fav has the reverse effect. You strike me as someone quite insecure about the looks of their fav who has a short boxy body and seems incapable of dressing appropriately for her body type.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 18, 2019 2:55 PM |
R44 - Bea looks determined to get herself off the spinster shelf so we may expect him to do so. But as a man with a younger sister who came a-cropper with a bad lot and a much-loved niece who went through some bad patches before finding a decent fellow, I cannot help feeling a bit sad and protective watching Bea head off this cliff. No woman deserves that.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 18, 2019 2:55 PM |
Harry looks like the guest no one wants to talk to that keeps pushing in on others conversations. You can tell Sophie is just being polite as he walks beside her. Why isn't he walking with his uncles. The Kents aren't that close to William and Harry. He's a bit pathetic and you just know that Meghan has shoved him out of the house to get new photos for her Stans.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 18, 2019 2:56 PM |
R32 Yes she always looks pulled together. I can’t really characterize her clothing, but her hair and whatever facial work she’s had done is fantastic. She also has a lush figure, though trim in the right places.

by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 18, 2019 3:06 PM |
Bridal fashion factoid: first thanks for that photo of Pss. Alexandra's somewhat similar wedding dress. When the dress was nearly complete and they were actually rehearsing the wedding, the train proved very difficult to maneuver, and suddenly, Pss. Alexandra simply rasied the train to the top of her head under the tiara and it served as the veil and train at the same time.
And speaking of tiaras, for the Tiara Crowd here, it is worth watching the video of the couple leaving the church, because only when Gabriella steps out into the sunshine can you see the diamonds in the tiara sparkling brilliantly and you get the impact of what it means to wear something like that on your head. . . . it's just beautiful amidst the white tulle.

In the midst of wedding frock horror, did anyone watch the Gayle King special? Apparently BP released a statement that Meghan had nothing to do with the special nor did she give her friends permission to talk about her. Given that King visited Meghan shortly before the birth, this sounds lame and specious, to say the least, and many of the fraus on CB who saw it described it as "a piece of fluff" the weeping Not Good, and universal doubts it would change anyone's negative opinion of Meghan. The programme didn't even run in many areas of the US, apparently. The Windsor wedding appears also have to eclipsed coverage of it here, an irony that should come under the heading of Karma Is A Bitch.

Did Harry always look a bit distant from his family? Wondering. Did all the 3rd wheeling with William and Cath mask that? Or is he deeply in the doghouse? His grandmother was not all that warm. Harry has really mucked things up with his poor choice.

by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 18, 2019 3:34 PM |
At this point, I actually think Beatrice wears daft outfits for the fun of it. I think she's trying to create the image of the quirky royal. Eugenie started dressing more conservatively quite recently, so she must not have liked being mocked for her fashion sense. But Beatrice seems to have made a conscious decision NOT to play it safe. She did wear a pretty sensible dress when she was Eugenie's maid of honour, but maybe that's because she was worried about embarrassing her sister on her big day.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 18, 2019 3:34 PM |
R77 It's been explained, he's the President of the FA, he has to go to the FA cup. If you were British you would understand how big the FA cup final is here. Much bigger than any royal wedding including MM and Harry's. William was forced to miss it last year, it would be unforgivable to do it again just for a cousins wedding. Kate generally doesn't go to royal weddings without William and the Middletons are good friends with the grooms family. it's not mysterious or hard to understand. That's now the royals work. Charles and Camilla hardly turn up to weddings. No one gets offended unless they aren't invited at all. That's why it was shocking that Harry and MM didn't invite so many royal cousins to their wedding.

I just cannot keep up with these threads, they move so fast!
At the risk of it already being posted, but not yet read by me, may I ask (beg) for some clarification on R417 of thread 56, which referred to Harry turning up drunk around the Cambridge children? I'm just dying to know more.

Some royal reporter on Twitter noted that it was generous of Gabriella to invite Harry and presumably Meghan, seeing as how they didn’t invite her to theirs. He also noted that it’s good to see actual Royals at a wedding rather than minor celebrities who barely know the bride and groom. Meow!
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 18, 2019 3:44 PM |
Meghan - not even Harry, but Meghan - should have insisted on inviting every Royal cousin and distant relative possible to her wedding, just to curry favor and get allies.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 18, 2019 3:48 PM |
Ill never understand either, why these modern royals, with their infinite funds, dont employ stylists, trendsetters, hair/make up experts etc in this instagram age. The whole wedding dressage was a freak show. Sorry, even Bea in her cheap-looking taffeta rag (color was nice though) and the horse face man-bride.
Brits, thinking this is an aristo thing, because so many regular Brits and Brit celebrities always look terrific. Perhaps a bit too much self-tanning lotion, but hair and style are always great. Does knowing that you never have to work for a living or that you have a title immediately negate any care for one’s outer appearance?
by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 18, 2019 3:49 PM |

Is that right, R87? I remember Dim inviting friends to the ceremony but not the reception, with other long time friends left out entirely. Had not realized that he cut out cousins as well. What a way to create ill will. Orka and the Clooneys will not spend family holidays with your kids nor visit you when you are ill or old. The shabby treatment of family was a poor Markle trait for him to adopt. Or, did he share that sentiment to begin with, with PR deflecting?
All the photos of him with Catherine, both laughing, created an impression of him that may not have a basis in reality. He was said not to tolerate her to be spoken ill of in his presence, great image of loving BIL, then his wife appears to spread rumors about her marriage, her rudeness and even her tiny children. WTF? Was Harry like her all along, or is he one of those men with no core personality who kind of morphs into every gfriend, a la Brad Pitt (albeit with less hair dying). One wonders. Remembering William apologizing for him and wondering if he was as rude as Me-Gain all along?

There are certain people (like Fergie & Beatrice) who look like shit, no matter what. Fergie actually wears expensive clothes. They just look like shit on her. I am sure Andrew has not forgotten Me-Me and her antics at the wedding of his daughter. He looks like he was guarding the Queen from Harry.
All the needless drama, chaos and pot stirring, and actual hurt to family members, not to mention the damage to the family business. No wonder he looks uneasy.
Will hunt for photos of Michael, have only seen them cropped to Carole. Hope their marriage is hanging on, it has been a rock for William and the kids. Shame they had to miss family hols due to that narc and her antics. The little Christmas trees for the children to decorate sounded lovely. No matter how much they cater to Me-Gain, she just keeps trying to trash them and the institution. Guess appearances matter though. It did look like they were trying. People like this though, it is them.
Seems to have been a lovely wedding. The bride, groom and attendants all look wonderful. It does make me question why the dresses for Me-Gain and her attendants looked poorly fitted and not nearly as nice?

You don't know that. Just because she didn't go doesn't mean she wasn't invited. She may have had some prior engagement. Just like like William did for this wedding. And I guess Kate just didn't want to go. She doesn't like going to anyone's wedding
The Queen didn't go to Gabriella's brother's wedding. Neither did Charles, Harry, William or Kate. I'm sure the York girls attended. They'll attend the opening of an envelope

The Palace had to be horrified that Gayle rambled on about the stats of merching Meg. To say she was uninvolved is implausible. They need to be more careful in issues surrounding her so that they do not impact their own credibility, as with the she is in labor announcement 8 hours after the birth.
So when are the sold photos of Archie coming? You know they tried for Jolie/Pitt money from someone. Surely the $ will be said to go to some charity they can skim from.

The stuff some people on here read into pictures. Andrew does not look at all hostile towards Harry; how does anyone know how the Queen treated Harry; was there a continuous tape going the whole time? In the video above, Harry is seen smiling and chatting with Princess Anne, the Middletons and also the Queen and Prince Philip. Andrew seems as though he was taking on the role of the eldest son in the place of Prince Charles.

The cake above reminds how poorly constructed was Hazbeans own wedding cake pictured below. Bakers everywhere were aghast at the lack of technical skill. And even the most amateur could see that placing it on gold stands with too many flowers as if to cover up bad patches served only to highlight the paltry result. But that's what last minute slap dash trying to look effortless but instead looking mediocre will get you. I'm sure they used edible flowers but these look like polyester versions from a local Hobby Lobby.

Andrew would have to have rocks in his head to marry Fergie again. err...yes, but when every other bride does the lace/embroidered sleeve it ends up looking like the same boring dress over and over again. And I'll just say it, just like strapless, a lot of brides cannot pull it off.
Most end up looking frumpy and older than their age. Just like you need toned thin arms to pull off strapless, you need a youthful face and thin frame to pull off lace sleeves or lace fabric near your face.

In their own way the Middletons keep showing how in they are with the aristos and royal crowd. Every Middleton but Kate is at this wedding. Pippa represented at the wedding of William's former flame, Arabella Musgrave. All the Middletons showed at Harry and Meghan's wedding. I've even seen pics of Carole Middleton hanging with Guy Pelley.
Cynicism aside, I remember reading that Cressida Bonas liked Carole Middleton a lot. For all the smear campaigns against the Middletons, I think a stable family like theirs is rare among the aristos and it's comforting to have drama free people whose own house is in order in your circle. I have a friend with parents like that. It's rarer than we think and a complete value add.

R227, the aging is not a single one of them, save perhaps the queen, has ever heard of sunblock. They go to the Maldives or wherever, sunbathe in the noon sun, hang out on polo fields without wearing hats. Fergie has not lived an abstemious life, but that face of hers comes from being a fair skinned, freckled red head lying in the sun in St. Barts and outdoors in Switzerland decades on end. Diana was well on her way to the same fate when she died. Ever take a gander at Diana's mum or Fergie's mum (who was gorgeous anyway) - faces like leather.

'Larrie is not a slur in 2019'
Larrie will always be a slur. Larries are the worst kind of hysterical Tumblr tinhat, just like the person on this thread who hates Prince Harry and Meghan and keeps insinuating that they had a surrogate and waffling on about moonbumps and the birth certificate being fake.
This person -a Larrie - has been on DL for ten years. They are on every thread where posters talk about het guys being closeted - such as Shawn Mendes, Timothee, Richard Madden and Sam Heughan. She also LOATHES Harry Styles because, as a Larrie, she can never forgive him for breaking up One Direction and making it really obvious that Larry were never a thing.
She now goes from thread to thread making dumb, mean comments about Harry Styles, such as 'he looks as if he smells of piss/looks like Michael Jackson'.
Any comments about 'paid shills', 'posting for profit', 'social media managers' and advice not to believe 'what you are being shown' is this troll. She even at one point tried to push a narrative that Harry is gay and bearding with Meg, but soon got shut down.
Please block and f and f this notorious troll.

Did Princess Michael of Kent, the bride's mother, ice out Charles and Camilla? They weren't there. Did Markle make a surprise appearance at the reception? She was taking care of the kid? Please. The wedding was right in her backyard at Frogmore. Kate Middleton was a no-show too. What was her excuse? Were they all afraid Sarah, Duchess of York, was going to upstage them?
by Anonymous | reply 253 | May 18, 2019 6:54 PM |
R253, no she didn't ice them out, they iced her. You do have some strange ideas. Charles doesn't like weddings and goes to as few as possible.

Her baby was only born 12 days ago. If she had gone to the wedding, you would be here screaming that she'd gone to take attention away from the bride. So much unwarranted vitriol.

R251, agreed.
Strapless wedding gowns are a terrible choice, as many brides find out on their big day.
Personally, I find lace to also be a questionable choice because of the endless possibilities of mishaps that can occur when wearing lace.
I don’t necessarily like the style and fit of this bride’s gown, though it is lovely. Kate’s gown, on the other hand, would be my choice, if choosing a gown with lace.
Harry is loosing his last bit of hair quickly. But he’s still boyish enough in attitude & looks over the moon happy.

Speaking of H&M, they have a version of the Cambridge wedding dress for sale. The French gf looked pretty for a spring wedding. It is nice to see the Middletons out in full force. Pippa looks fine, she may be breastfeeding still.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | May 18, 2019 7:12 PM |
Meghan's wedding gown was fug as hell on her. It's a shade of whiteout white and accentuates her broad shoulder, wide barrel-like torso, and nonexistent waist. Today's bride Gabriella had a much better dress that also suited her figure. Poor Meghan, she just doesn't have style, she couldn't even look good in her own (overpriced) wedding dress.

Harry will be bald in two-years time. Unlike William who sort of wears his baldness well, I don't think ginger baldy Harry will fare as well. I'd expect him to grow his beard to compensate even more.

Today's bride was a washed out blonde who didn't suit the pale colour of her gown at all. She has a face like a camel compared to Meg's delicate, defined features and lovely jawline. Gabby has a weak chin and huge teeth.

She signed up for a life with rules and she can't even learn it well. I don't want to be mean but I give this marriage five years max. She doesn't seem like a good fit for the strict royal rules. She only wants the fame and money but not the discipline needed to fit in. I did not see a confident woman since all I saw was an insecure woman who Is way over her head and does not understand the implications of what she got herself into. what if she is not controlling Harry maybe manipulated him into believing she is the right woman for the job.

For anyone who might be inclined to give a shit, "Mary, Queen of Scots" is FREE on TubiTV. This is the story of the dramatic saga between Elizabeth I (QEII's 15th cousin) and Mary, Queen of Scots (QEII's 13th? Great-Grandmothe). The film features Glenda Jackson as Elisabeth I and Vanessa Redgrave as Mary, Queen of Scots. If you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend it as a good watch.

Thoughts on today:
- Amelia Windsor did NOT pull off that pink dress successfully - Pippa's dress fit well and wasn't obviously terrible but I just don't like her style. A little too prairie schoolmarm-ish - didn't think Fergie looked that bad, for Fergie. She definitely didn't stand out as awful - Bea looked as good as she has in a long time, to me. More relaxed and smiley than I'm used to, I liked the dress well enough and the colour really suits her - the Queen and Phil, in the videos of them exiting and entering their car, are so spry for people their age! Both of them managed it with ease and grace. I've been thinking Phil has been not long for this world for awhile but he didn't look decrepit in his physicality - it's just his visage that's gone a little zombie
R314 - But aren't you the one who shows up like clockwork in this thread to talk about how old and gross William is and how ugly giraffe Kate is and how many Instagram followers Meghan has and how petite petite petite she is? It's boring, you're language is boring, you're boring, please stop.

R315 - Indeed, they are - representations of once-quintessential Engishness now gone except in outlihing countrysides.
Fergie's outfit is a pretty colour with a decent hat, but is two sizes too small and so eliminated her midsection entirely and made her look like the mother of the bride in Real Housewives of New Jersey - or, in this case, EastEnders.

There were so many women wearing jackets and/or hats that were the wrong color for their outfits. One example was a women who just slapped on a white blazer over dress.
Bea's navy dress was fab but why wear a white hat and shoes with it? She has lost weight and looks good. But, her beaux is going to break her heart.
Why does Fergie keep wearing clothes that are too small for her?
I thought the flowers outside the church were pretty.

My theory on Pippa’s ultra demure dress sense lately is that she’s trying to downplay her middle class origins and not stand out as being too trashy and flashy. Especially at a wedding - her mother always dresses beautifully and appropriately - it’s just good manners to not draw attention from the bride.
But both she and Kate overdo the buttoned up to the chin and long buttoned cuff look although I assume that it’s fashionable. Very prim although Kate did that kitten-with-a-whip thing last week with the schoolmarm dress unbuttoned enough to show off her truly amazing legs.

I like how the whole Middleton family has been invited to each of the royal weddings of the past year. The reports that say that they’re great company, very nice and lots of fun just might be true. I can’t imagine that they would all be invited each time (personal connection or not) if they were the grasping social climbers that some people have made them to be. They arrive en masse, appropriately but not flashily dressed and walk confidently into the church without seeking out the cameras. No sashaying, no posing no drawing attention - I like them.

I didn't realize that Jasper Conran designed Lady Chatto's wedding dress, bridesmaid's dress and the Snowden Floral Tiara.
I think of him as a furniture and household goods designer. I didn't know he design clothes. I visited Conrain's and Habitat years ago in London. There were 2 Conran's in NYC for a while but that was long ago also.
I like the simple elegance of his designs for this wedding. I also like the bridesmaid's hair with the flowers in the back and the bouquets shown in the big group shot.

As already noted, Princess Michael did not look her best. She looked ok, but not half as elegant as she did at Lord Freddie's wedding. Frumpy, and the color made her look washed out. Does anyone know anything about the interesting pendant she had on? It looked like some kind of Odin's cross - which doesn't have good connotations, esp given Marie-Christine's 'history'.
The bride looked wonderful, dress, hair, veil, train, flowers, tiara - great on every point. The flowers at the church were fabulous as well. Well done. Guests were a mixed bag. Wtf was Birgitte Gloucester wearing on her head? an 80s-style Flashdance headband. The Goldsmiths looked awful, both Jemimas looked bad. Queen Anne-Marie looked regal as always.
Surprisingly large turnout of royals, was surprised to see this. Prince Philip looked terrific for a man turning 98 in a few weeks. Totally spry for his age, good to see him and TQ together w/the family....where was Princess Alexandra, the bride's aunt? No sign of her, she wasn't there although her children and grandchildren were. Hope things are ok.
The Yorks arriving en famille (minus Eug and Jack - who are so prego, no doubt at this point): very significant imo, esp in public at a major family event with both TQ & Philip present. The dress was too small but she looked every inch a royal Duchess again, hat, brooch etc. Anyone who believes they are just 'hanging out' as merely friendly exes is kidding themselves now; they are priming for the future time when they announce a re-marriage....I used to believe this would happen only after Philip's death, but now I'm not so sure of that.

Looked like a Maltese cross? Probably some Catholic ladies-auxiliary thing.

You are correct r370, it is a Maltese cross, not Odin's as I incorrectly id'd it.
A very frumpy look either way for her. I was surprised, she's looked better at other weddings. This was her own daughter's.

Welp the DM are up to something. They've got Ella Windsor's wedding still up as main headline on the UK front page, but now have a huge pic of grinning Kate swinging in her Chelsea Flower garden on the front page of the US edition. With a large inset pic of Diana, natch. Wonder what this is about? Were the Sussexes planning some headlines for their anniversary tomorrow?

Here a good wide shot video of designer Luisa Beccaria working with Ella's dress today on the St. George's steps. At the end she stands up an turns around before walking out of the shot, you can get a full view of her getup in all its floral glory:

All the talk upthread about these women being ugly/sun-damaged/oddly dressed got me thinking about the difference between entertainment industry celebs and aristrocrats or the upper classes. These women enjoy a life of plentiful ski and sun holidays and many spend lots of time outdoors doing or watching sports. Their primary concern is not how they'll look in red carpet pics or on instagram; their face is not their meal ticket.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | May 19, 2019 4:50 AM |
Exactly R388 - there was a comment previously about how extraordinary it was to see all the oddly dressed and styled women at the wedding today, "especially in this Instagram age" (or something like that) and I thought it missed the point entirely. The point being, as you said, that these women's fortunes are not forced to rely on their looks for the roofs over their heads or their jewels. Same with the people going on about social media followers.
This is what people mean when they say Americans "don't understand" and I think they're basically right. The aristocracy is not about merit. It's not about looks or kindness or ability or anything except bloodline.

Poor old Fergie is obviously incapable of stepping out of a car at a royal wedding without stopping, pulling that ridiculous face and waving like a badly operated marionette. It would be great to get a shot of her from a different angle - there was probably nobody there. Bea, evidently used to this mugging, ignored it and soldiered on ahead.

And Harry's sliding down rapidly enough to join her if they both keep up like this. They need to disappear off somewhere. The Out To Africa plan probably would be the only thing that could have rehabilitated them, but now that's off I think it's only going to get worse.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | May 19, 2019 9:11 AM |
R406 - MM isn't disliked except by Piers Morgan ( who is reviled) and the Express newspaper. People here are too busy hating Theresa May and worrying about Brexit to spare any hate for MM.

Go on the big British gossip boards like Digital Spy and there are no long running threads attacking her, as there are for genuine hated villains like Liz Jones and Katie Price. Brits hate trashy chavs, not attractive dual heritage Americans who have very obviously made the hugely popular Harry happier than they have ever seen him.

r433 She is SUCH a hypocrite. Of course she wants Harry to stay sweet with his father - because his father is the one who funds their extravagant lifestyle. She wants him to "love his family" as in, stay in with his family because she wants to be invited to things and look to the outside world like her behaviour is accepted by them. Without the appearance of being accepted, her stock goes down with the social-climbing set back in Hollywood, and she needs the latter's worshipful attention in order to keep climbing once she's ditched Harry.

You are more than welcome R437.
What an earth is MM doing flaunting old pictures of herself in a wedding dress, right after yesterday's wedding? Yes, it's her anniversary, but why not a picture of her and Harry now? She could have had one taken before her bloat, in anticipation. A nice casual one, would have been perfect. Granted she's not outdoorsy, so anything similar to William, Kate and the kids' pics would look fake...but she could have chosen any setting. I mean, she would never give us a candid one. But the wedding dress AGAIN? Another big faux pas . But an intentional one, I think.

R436 The coral one is vivid and lovely. The purple one is disappointing with that giant tie.
by Anonymous | reply 439 | May 19, 2019 11:53 AM |
It was a faux pas in one sense because, once again, her poor intentions are clear. In another sense, it compares her unfavorable to yesterday's bride. Sorry to harp on the matter, but her dress was so ill fitting and these pictures highlight this once again.
by Anonymous | reply 440 | May 19, 2019 11:57 AM |
R439, I think yesterday the designer adapted the tie and turned it into some sort of sash, maybe. It looked like it crossed over her shoulder. It looked like it was adapted to look more flouncy, yesterday.

by Anonymous | reply 442 | May 19, 2019 12:00 PM |
I'm wondering about Africa , too. I think it was MM's PR trying to detract from the Times "banishment" article, by fighting back by saying it was the Sussexes choice, and it was for four months. It was a very quick kickback at the piece.

To be fair, I suppose the first anniversary is a big deal. And to be cuntish, I’ll point out that she blew her whole wad in under a year. The only big newsworthy thing left is the divorce.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | May 19, 2019 12:05 PM |
Agreed but the original Geidt plan was a few years, not months. MM's rebuttal of "months, not years" won't do it. The only way they can stop from being swallowed the building loathing of them in the country is to disappear to a quiet place for a sizable amount of time. At least two years, with no glamour occasions other than the odd diplomatic reception.

Well, I hope the years-long Africa plan is still a-go. I don't understand the jacket. It looks more like a happi coat than anything. It isn't elegant, it isn't fitted, it isn't tasteful. Maybe it's just comfortable.

I like it - I am used to seeing pictures of Pss. Michael from at least 5 years ago so I wasn't ready for her to look so elderly, so that was a shock, but I like the almost tulle-esque jacket, and I love that she wore her Knights of Malta Brooch. Very chic. Not many people have one of those (the real ones, that is- it's a rather exclusive charitable society these days)

Permits were filed, R473, quite a while ago. It was on earlier threads. If locals do not see that work was done and see no signs of habitation, that is interesting. Some photos were posted online and in articles that appeared to be scaffolding and roof work but those were of the mausoleum, not FrogCot itself. The ones in People magazine were quite misleading. Hmmm, wonder who could have provided those?

[quote] Byline: asks Tim Shipman
[quote] The suggestion was delivered with a languor that belied its radicalism: "It wouldn't surprise me if Harry and Meghan moved abroad." The location was a restaurant in Soho clubland, in London, with plates of slow-cooked venison, lamb neck, flatbread and hispi cabbage gradually emptying. The speaker was a close confidant of the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, two of the most recognisable young men in the world and best known by their first names, William and Harry.
[quote] It was early April, a month after the brothers had ended their joint court at Kensington Palace and divided their offices. For months Harry and his bride had been central to media coverage of the royals as the former actress Meghan Markle completed her transformation into the Duchess of Sussex.
[quote] Increasingly, Harry and Meghan were also at the forefront of thinking by palace officials. "There have been various ideas floated for them to take on a job abroad, such as governor-general of Australia or Canada, wherever," the source said. These ideas were rejected. Senior royals, after all, are not civil servants. But what emerged from the discussions is potentially more interesting and could see Harry and Meghan set up home in Africa.
[quote] If the idea seems at first sight unlikely, the conversations in the royal household that gave rise to it have been confirmed by others close to the princes. Hailed since their mother's death more than 20 years ago as the saviours of the monarchy, William and Harry bonded by growing up amid febrile publicity, brothers in arms united against the stuffed waistcoats and breeches of the palace establishment and an antidote to the older generation of royals who too often mired the monarchy in personal controversies of their own creation.
[quote] What has prompted serious questions about whether the Sussexes might leave Britain for a while? The origins lie in that separation of the two offices, a move more than half-a-dozen sources attest driven by a recognition that the two men will have very different constitutional roles in the future and the growing personal differences of approach between them and their wives.
[quote] What is more, insiders say, the institutional separation has cemented some of those personal differences to a degree that has led certain courtiers realising the next few years could shape the future of the monarchy for decades to come to conclude they need a new plan.
[quote] "William is embracing the idea, which he has been very slow to do, that he is going to be king and Prince of Wales," said one source with connections at the highest levels of the palace.
[quote] In this the Duke of Cambridge has been encouraged by his private secretary, Simon Case, who previously served as principal private secretary to David Cameron and Theresa May. Allies say he believed that a period of separation between the two brothers would help them to define themselves better and also improve relations between them.

This picture of Frogmore from the 19th April, the foliage has grown up so we can't see if the window was fixed. However there still seem to be some missing tiles.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | May 19, 2019 2:10 PM |
[quote] Setting up a separate office was an acknowledgment that William will be king and Harry will not and, to a degree, a means of reassuring William that his is the constitutionally important role, whatever the public esteem in which Harry and Meghan are held. "People are telling William, 'Don't worry. Your influence will grow and Harry's will fade,'" a source said. "This is peak Harry."
[quote] After a year in which Harry and Meghan have hardly been off the front pages, it would be natural for William and Kate to feel somewhat overshadowed. It was not long after the office split that the tabloids started reporting that Kate and Meghan did not see eye to eye. They were "very different people", one report suggested.
[quote] "It's a bit sad really," said someone who knows both princes. "The wives don't get on. The brothers have fallen out."
[quote] If the departure of Harry and Meghan from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate made constitutional and personal sense, it also relieved some courtiers who had grown frustrated by the determination of the Sussexes to do things their way, not the old way.
[quote] To the outside world Harry was deeply in love with his bride and devoted to her needs. To some palace grandees, used to things being done a certain way, he was "in thrall" to Meghan. One insider said: "She's in total charge; he does everything she wants."
[quote] Courtiers were quick to brief the papers that Harry had snapped at staff before the wedding "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets" and that the Queen had called him in for a dressing-down. "Only the Queen can exercise any control over William or Harry," a source said. "The father can't and there is no mum."
[quote] A number of those preparing William for the throne share this view and have openly told friends that Meghan is "a nightmare". Friends of Harry think this deeply unfair and see it as evidence that some people have not moved on from the attitudes of the abdication crisis of 1936 when the Establishment failed to accommodate another divorced American woman, Wallis Simpson.
[quote] "They obviously don't like Meghan and find her difficult," said a sympathiser. "Harry thinks the world is against him, but he will certainly stand by her."
[quote] This sense of embattlement has been entrenched by William's decision to reach out to senior figures in the media as he prepares for kingship and by the apparent decision of those same newspapers to side with the palace over Meghan and Harry by peddling the most negative coverage of the duchess's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle. "Harry sees that as part of the headwinds against him," a friend said.
[quote] In this context moving to Frogmore has been as much an exile as an escape. "Meghan and Harry feel they have been cut adrift," one ally said.
[quote] None of which has dented the couple's popular support or their desire to pursue the schemes they care about. Recently Harry announced plans to make a documentary series about mental health issues with the US broadcaster Oprah Winfrey, building on his projects with the Heads Together campaign in Britain and his work with disabled athletes.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | May 19, 2019 2:10 PM |
[quote] Before her marriage Meghan was a global ambassador for the children's charity World Vision. Old footage of her helping young people in India was released only last week.
[quote] Allies say this global crusading was a key element in their romance. "There are two Harrys," said one. "One hangs out with honking Sloanes and goes to shooting weekends. The other is the young campaigner with Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and everyone else who matters on speed dial, who sets up the Invictus Games and runs international campaigns. That was the one Meghan was interested in. She is interested in being a global humanitarian in the Angelina Jolie mould."
[quote] To palace officials wondering how to handle the couple there was another figure who looms large when you think of young women using a royal platform for global charitable crusading: Harry's own mother. "The danger to them is that Meghan is going to be bigger than Diana," said one source.
[quote] The fear of these people and of some of Harry's friends is that the couple will not happily remain for ever as the undercard of the princes' double act. "More and more friends are worried that they'll just get on a plane and live in LA and never come back," said one friend.
[quote] The couple's first big appointment was that of Sara Latham, a PR expert who previously worked for the Clintons and the Obamas. She started her new job last week. "Sara Latham is American," said a royal watcher. "The one big media play that Meghan has made was with People magazine in the US. That looks to me like someone who cares most how she is seen in America."
[quote] Latham did not oversee the People article, in which Meghan's old friends defended her, but she was involved in the link-up with Winfrey.
[quote] Some members of the royal family, no fans of Meghan, have even speculated that she might one day run for president of the United States herself.
[quote] The fear that Harry and Meghan might seek a new arena revived discussions about offering the couple an opportunity overseas. The benevolent explanation is that in a year or so the Sussexes, with a young family, might value a period away. Courtiers framed this as the opportunity for a "Malta moment", echoing the time the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh spent on the island between 1949 and 1951 while Prince Philip was posted there with the Royal Navy.
[quote] The less palatable view, held by some, is that this would get the Sussexes out of the way. "In some ways it would suit William to get his brother out of the country for a few years and Meghan as far away as possible," said one friend of the brothers.
[quote] Sending the couple to Canada was "mooted, then booted" given that Meghan spent seven years living there and for some it was "too close to the US" and the inevitable tabloid magazine coverage that would ensue. Making Harry governor-general of Australia was discussed and dismissed. The problems were obvious. "The trouble is that you effectively set them up as king and queen of a whole separate country," according to one source. "And 24-hour media means that Australia is not as far away as it used to be."
by Anonymous | reply 494 | May 19, 2019 2:13 PM |
[quote] Insiders knew something was needed to keep the couple's interest. "The problem with these two is that they want to do, rather than to be," said a source relaying the views of palace officials.
[quote] "They do not like doing the more formal routine stuff the fairs and fetes. They've put noses out of joint because a lot of traditional charities that Prince Philip has stopped doing, the princes and William in particular have said no to taking [them] up."
[quote] Conversations at the palace and in government, which appear to have taken place entirely independently, are now focused on how to devise a bespoke "soft power" role for the couple.
[quote] "People have moved from containment to harnessing Harry and Meghan. There's been a reset," a source said.
[quote] "They sent them down to Frogmore to try to keep them out of the limelight for a bit. This is doomed to fail. They are worried that Harry and Meghan are going to establish a totally separate enterprise that nobody can get under control.
[quote] "There are discussions in palace circles about how do we harness Harry and Meghan and this tremendous global attention they get. How do we draw them back, because laying down the law and ticking them off doesn't work at all."
[quote] One idea, which appealed to ministers, would be to give Harry and Meghan a role as trade envoys, following in the footsteps of the Duke of York, who performed that role until 2011. A senior government official said: "The best trade envoys are energetic and care about trade, so that is two ticks."
[quote] For the royal family this approach is too limiting. Instead, the palace brains trust has been working up plans for a role for the couple, probably in Africa, where Harry has longstanding interests and which he refers to as his "second home".
[quote] He spent some of his gap year in 2004 in Lesotho and two years later founded a charity, Sentebale, with the country's Prince Seeiso. He and Meghan fell in love on a trip to Botswana and are reported to have honeymooned in east Africa.
[quote] The new post is expected to combine some charity work, an element of promoting the Commonwealth and some work on behalf of the UK.
[quote] Harry is already president and Meghan vice-president of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust which is chaired by Lord Geidt, former private secretary to the Queen. He has been helping to plot a role for the princes alongside Sir David Manning, the former British ambassador to the US who advises them on constitutional and international affairs.
[quote] Senior courtiers say the role would have to be broad enough to appeal to Harry and Meghan while capitalising on their "rock star" status in a way that is attractive to the host country.
[quote] Nothing is set in stone. No one has yet decided who would pay for the African enterprise or how the couple's security would be organised. The host country and other Commonwealth nations would have to approve. But what everyone seems to have realised is that the project is a way of managing the swirling relationships between the royal brothers, their wives, their father and the palace officials in a way that is needed.
[quote] It is something that has not gone unnoticed by MPs. One senior Tory said: "The death of the Queen, whenever it is, will be a moment of massive public mourning. Most people can't imagine singing God Save the King. It will create two or three years of gentle national psychological confusion.
[quote] "The same happened when Queen Victoria died. If the royals are then found to fail, I think the whole thing could come crashing down remarkably quickly."
[quote] Officials fear that Meghan will be bigger than Diana.

Seems like the roof was not complete less than a month ago. If they were removing interior walls that had divided it into small apartments, surely that would take time and create a mess?
by Anonymous | reply 496 | May 19, 2019 2:16 PM |
The fear and confusion among the courtiers is amusing. Meghan and Harry's intransigence is bemusing. William's reluctance to be king and need for reassurance is disappointing. The obvious imperialism shown by the lot of them is irritating. (GG of Australia, really?)
This isn't a pro-Meghan article so I'm surprised at how many references there are to Diana. It's odd that the palace actually see her as that threatening.
If this article is to be believed, Harry seems to have decided that he will not quietly fade into the background and William seems threatened by Harry's popularity. Perhaps William has more in common with Charles than he is willing to admit.

r497, Your analysis is off in that Meghan is the Anti-Diana. Diana was organically loved by much of the public. Meghan is as loathed by the public as naturally Diana was loved because Meghan is false in every way. If the British public could organise a swift exit right for Meghan, they damn well might consider it. Meghan is an insult to Diana's memory to them. He ostentation, her spending, her demands, her hauteur.
She's everything exactly opposite of what they loved in Diana.

R497, I think the article IS a pro-Meghan. Just as there’s damning with faint praise, there’s praising with faint damning.
For example: “Some members of the royal family, no fans of Meghan, have even speculated that she might one day run for president of the United States herself.”
And the bit about courtiers shooting down the idea of sending the Harkles to Canada - because it’s too close to the US? The BRF doesn’t want her near the US? If Meghan wanted to be in Canada, they’d go to Canada. SHE doesn’t want to be in any provincial former colony. She’s done with Canada and she’s ghosted it. Not important enough.
by Anonymous | reply 507 | May 19, 2019 2:55 PM |
The seamstresses loathed Meghan too, apparently.
Look at Kate's dress, Meghan (done by your favourite outlet People, no less) and despair:
by Anonymous | reply 508 | May 19, 2019 2:57 PM |
R506, not to mention her ill-fitting and highly visible undergarments.
We know how much work goes into the Queen’s clothing so they don’t crease and wrinkle, and so that you don’t see Her underthings.
A dress that is so simple and unadorned will show every and any imperfection. If there is ANY occasion for which you wouldn’t use every possible resource to find perfectly fitted undergarments, it’s a Royal Wedding. She could have gotten a custom-made corset or bra. Instead, we were treated to overflowing flesh and her nipples. (And for someone so slim, it’s nearly impossible to have overflowing flesh, so that’s quite a feat.)

Canada is too close to the US.
I don't know what Meghan wants, but if one is trying to put someone away quietly, shoving them closer to one of the world's largest content creators and media markets would be counter intuitive. If the BRF want the Sussexes out of the way then Canada is a terrible idea IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 510 | May 19, 2019 3:02 PM |
R510, now I’m just arguing for argument’s sake, not because I have any strong feelings about this. And I do agree with you. BUT if Meghan were determined to make a splash and assert her tungsten will, she could certainly do it from Africa.

Nobody puts Megain in a corner.

Don't be looking down at Canada. It has a higher GDP and better standard of living than the UK. It also has less crime and better social integration.
R511 I think Meghan could be "a nightmare"/"revolutionary"/"woke" anywhere on the planet and spread that message if she wants to do so. I'm agreeing with the article's assertion that BP courtiers considered Canada too close to the US as a safe place to put her away. She can still get attention in Africa but it will be a bit more difficult; though not impossible. It also depends on where in Africa they plan to put the Sussexes. Good Lord, if she's in Nigeria or South Africa she might as well be in London.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | May 19, 2019 3:21 PM |
r497 Actually I think it is a pro-MM article. As someone has mentioned on another forum - she gets the small things, the details wrong. Palace coutiers may well be discussing where to send them but it would not be roles like "Governor General of Country X", the Palace hasn't had that level of influence in the appointments of officials to represent the UK for a long, long time. Yes Edward VIII became Governor of Bermuda but he was a) a former King and b) causing problems with the war effort. The Government wanted him out of the way.
Courtiers would know this and those roles mentioned are far too high profile for a pair of minor royals with no real important links. Andrew for all his faults, was in the Navy for 20 years and has a lot of high profile business links. When I read the article previously it sounded to me like her casting around for suitably high profile roles (in her mind). We have seen a pattern of things appearing in the media which are actually what MM wants, not what has been agreed.

R520 I'm not what one those who believes every article has been bought by a PR firm. The article sounds fair to me. It is critical of all the royals. It is not as scathing as the tabloid fare that this thread prefers.
Tim Shipman is the political editor of The Sunday Times. I'd say he probably has more access to insider information on the matter than the posters on this thread unless there are courtiers among us. And if there are, identify yourselves and spill all the tea at once.

r529 I never mentioned PR Firms. I just said that to me it seemed pro-meghan. I would agree that it has insider information, it's a question where some of the insider information came from. Royals don't choose Governor generals. The UK no longer has the power to impose a Governor General on a former colony . So I don't understand where that part of the information is coming from, unless it was someone in MM's side of things. I suppose the courtiers could have been discussing it but that shows a worrying level of naiveity about the UK's place in the world and the way these appointments work.

Thanks for copy/pasting the article, R495 and previous. I think it all sounds very plausible, and it is pro/against anyone.
What I don't understand is how insiders could imagine MM being the next Diana, unless they just mean her being a disruptive force. Diana's backstory, her looks and her ability to exude empathy all came together to make her very appealiang to a lot of people. Meghan doesn't possess any of that--she's riding on a celebrity culture high because of the fairy tale American commoner snagged a prince angle. I don't think many people are enchanted by her charitable endeavors--it's commonplace now for celebs.

Well they both seem to be seeking streams of revenue -- what better stream of unaccountable revenue than government-funded building works?
Bearing in mind that the ten-bed Anmer Hall only got 1.5 million pounds (personally funded via the Queen) of renovation, do we really think the 5 bed Froggy Bottom genuinely got 3 million pounds' worth of publicly funded renovation?
Or that that maybe someone, somewhere, was skimming over the top and using RedTape to hide it?
by Anonymous | reply 551 | May 19, 2019 4:31 PM |
R551, you know, I feel like an absolute idiot for not considering that.
There have been several articles about the design and decorating team that is doing Frogmore, so I never doubted that the re-do was happening. There were also several mentions of the organic vegetable garden - and that the Harkles were delaying their move to Drogmore (typo, and it stays) until the garden was completed. (Why a vegetable patch would affect their move is WTF...)
This is from Elle.com: “What Their Frogmore Cottage Home Will Be Like
Plans for Harry and Meghan’s Frogmore Cottage renovations include two conservatory extensions, extensive landscaping, permission for a bedroom to be built above a studio on the property, and several new fireplaces. All traditional floorboards, window frames and doors are to be maintained. Additionally, one of the attractions of Frogmore Cottage is that Meghan and Harry will be able play with their baby in the beautiful gardens, free from intrusion since the home is private property.”

I read that article a couple of weeks ago. It is utter bullshit. Meghan and Harry do NOT have "tremendous global appeal." They are nothing in the US. They are nothing globally. They're tabloid fodder and that is it. They're hate clicks. The entire article is set up as blackmail - the BRF instead of wanting to get rid of them, is afraid of LOSING them.
Harry and Meghan ARE the fucking undercard, and they'll move in further down. They're not superstars for whom the BRF will have to pay and grant more autonomy (and pay and pay), let them do what they want while paying for it, lest Harry and Meghan go off on their own and someone else gives them a lot of money to be Harry and Meghan.
All of this is simply trying to inflate their value on what Markle thinks is the global marketplace. Give BRF first refusal but it better be on H&M's terms, not the BRF's terms, or Markle will put herself and Harry on the open market. I'm sure the BRF is quaking in its boots when it's not saying here's your hat what's your hurry.

Throwback.....Sunday. The Queen leaves Easter Sunday service 30 years ago with young Harry in 1989. Grandmas the world over have been working this angle since time began. Both his parents and brother took a separate car. With hindsight being 20/20, we can assume the significance of this scenario way back when. "Are Mummy and Pa fighting a lot at home, Harry? Tell Granny. Tell Granny all about it....."

Gabriella changed into her second dress during the reception and opted for a third gown for evening celebrations. Today she wears a fourth dress for a post-wedding Sunday Brunch .
Any pictures, Insta-Gays?

There is something really rather funeral like about MM's video (not sure how she can copyright something with other people's content). I see she has managed to make it all about her and the wedding being her chance to shine.

Her publishing things have always kept private for royal weddings is so....trashy. The woman literally has no understanding or appreciation for what makes royals royal, and Harry is 100% to blame. What a worthless ginger, can't even get married properly.
Doesn't matter tho i guess, Charles will keep on funding him.

R554, I think they do have appeal, but only as entertainment. I suppose some really do believe that they care about their patronages or that Meghan is a global humanitarian. Anyone with critical thinking skills understands that they’re just figureheads and don’t actually give a shit in any meaningful way about amputees or hungry children or land mines (yeah I went there).
It’s part of the game: pick a cause, pose for photos, reap PR points.

Fergie is so proud of her girls.
I can hear Beatrice and Eugenie saying: "But Mummy we're women now remember".
Is it me or is Eugenie's face more puffy (pregnant?)?

The Duke and Duchess of Kent had three beautiful blonde children. Unfortunately, only Lady Helen has kept some of her good looks. The boys have morphed into their father (with beards).

So now that's two weddings from which Meghan has tried to steal the limelight. First, her open pregnancy coat at Eugenie's wedding and now her "Black & White One Year Wedding Anniversary Extravaganza" a day after Ella's wedding. She's an attention whore and an asshole all rolled into one.
We all must come up with what she'll do next on the same day that Kate unveils her garden at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show. Will she show photos of Frogmore gardens? A flower arrangement from her NYC baby shower? Any predictions?

I guess her big trump card is a photo of the baby. Would be funny if she stayed home from Trooping of the Color. And then just when the rest of the family is on the balcony facing the crowds, she posts a pic of the unwrapped baby.

Queen Victoria's nine children. I've just finished a biography of her youngest son Prince Leopold and I wanted to smack her face after it. She wanted complete control of his life. A mother from hell.

I don’t understand Harry. The more I think about it, the less I understand him.
He’s been royal his whole life. He’s watched how media attention has devastated the people close to him & he’s fought many battles himself to try and keep private things private. Mention of trips to hospital for broken bones and grainy photos of him sitting in theatres have led to loud complaints to watchdogs and lawyers letters.
He KNOWS that you don’t give the press an inch, because by doing so you tacitly give them permission to take a mile. He KNOWS that the way the BRF do things is designed to protect them so that, away from the cameras, they have some chance at normality.
And we’re supposed to believe that he’s so much in love with Markle, all of this has gone out of the window?
But more significantly...to a great many Brits, Markle is downright embarrassing. Baking banana bread, writing on bananas (what is it with her and bananas?) twee perfume ad style pics, slushy videos set to music.....it’s very, very cringe. Nobody is going to tell me he can’t see that;- he hasn’t morphed into a Californian overnight, and 34 year old men don’t change their personalities to that degree.
If you love someone, you don’t want them to get hurt, so you explain why xyz isn’t a good idea. You explain why things are done a certain way - but if Harry’s done that, Markle ain’t listening.
I know many people think he’s basically always been a famewhore it just took Markle to reveal it - but I don’t believe that. He never once pap walked before he met her, and people who have lived with an oppressive and at times damaging level of fame their whole lives want less of it, not more.
The only explanation that makes sense to me is that Harry is, in fact, not signing off on any of this...and Markle doesn’t bother asking him to. I think the IG is all her & he’s stuck on a carousel he’d like to get off, but doesn’t know how. He can’t ask for help because he’s burned too many bridges that he’s too proud to rebuild & it would feel disloyal to the woman who (I am sure reminds him frequently) gave up everything for him.
He’s a weak, spineless prat with an embarrassing wife - and all of this serves him right. Everyone who cared about him warned him about Markle, but he wouldn’t listen. So now he’s stuck with her.
I predict two things....this time next year, Harry’s popularity figures will have fallen considerably & while he’s never courted publicity (before now) his “People’s Prince” image suited him very well. So losing that will hit him where it hurts and I think the little worm will then start to turn. “Trouble in paradise” stories will swiftly follow.
