Cassadaga Florida- “the psychic capital of the world”

This seems like a very interesting town. I moved to south Florida recently and am intrigued by this psychic town. Thinking about taking a trip one weekend. Have any of you visited Cassadaga?

Anybody?

by Anonymousreply 1May 18, 2019 7:53 PM

I was there in the 80s and the drive into town was as spooky as any Hollywood movie. The trees blowing in the wind had a strange voice underneath for example. I got a reading that was spot on 30 years later. I think there is some real psychic energy there.

by Anonymousreply 2May 19, 2019 7:12 PM

It's a long way from South Florida. And not as spooky as so many towns around Lake Okeechobee.

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2019 7:15 PM

Me likey.

That creepy sound in the wind means you are in MAGA country! RUN! !!!!

by Anonymousreply 5May 19, 2019 9:57 PM

Are there plenty of lodgings in this town?

by Anonymousreply 6May 19, 2019 10:22 PM

Do you have to make a reservation or do they know that you're coming?

by Anonymousreply 7May 19, 2019 10:26 PM

This sounds like a fascinating tourist destination.

by Anonymousreply 8May 19, 2019 10:28 PM

What are the hotel costs? If it's affordable, I'm interested.

by Anonymousreply 9May 20, 2019 12:11 AM

I want to know which psychics in this town are worth seeing. Anyone on here have or know of any recommendations? I plan on making a road trip through all of Florida and stopping by several weird and or interesting towns. There’s no shortage of weird down here

by Anonymousreply 10May 25, 2019 2:08 AM

What's the gay scene like?

by Anonymousreply 11May 25, 2019 2:21 AM

R2 interesting . Do you want to share any details about the reading?

by Anonymousreply 12May 25, 2019 2:22 AM

Interestingly enough, named after Cassadaga Lake in NY, which is nearby the spiritualist community of Lily Dale. The founder of Lily Dale later established Cassadaga in FL.

by Anonymousreply 13May 25, 2019 2:24 AM

I had 2 great readings at Cassadega. One made no sense at the time and I laughed through most of it. But the session was recorded and I listened to the tape 5 years later and got chills as I recognized the places and events that were described.

by Anonymousreply 14May 25, 2019 2:26 AM

R14 Details? Now I'm curious .

by Anonymousreply 15May 25, 2019 2:34 AM

The psychic described, among other things, the pink training room I spent weeks in a few years later and identified my career after grad school years later still. The psychic was angry that I kept laughing at the things she saw/predicted, so she said, "I do not mean any offense, but Sprit says you are a spoiled brat!" I was impressed but I don't think you have to be psychic to see that.

by Anonymousreply 16May 25, 2019 2:40 AM

R16 very cool

by Anonymousreply 17May 25, 2019 2:44 AM

R10, don't forget to visit Gibsonton.

by Anonymousreply 18May 25, 2019 2:58 AM

Yikes, Gibsonton is the Retirement Capital of Circus Freaks.

by Anonymousreply 19May 25, 2019 3:01 AM

R10 - can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 20May 25, 2019 3:03 AM

People who believe in the supernatural should be remanded to psychiatric facilities until they are cured of their delusions.

by Anonymousreply 21May 25, 2019 3:24 AM

As should people who believe in religion. Or the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 22May 25, 2019 3:33 AM

....

by Anonymousreply 23May 25, 2019 4:17 AM

Sounds like a great place to visit. Is there a gay scene there?

by Anonymousreply 24May 25, 2019 4:23 AM

"Florida- “the psychic capital of the world”"

I would have expected it to be PALM Beach.

by Anonymousreply 25May 25, 2019 4:27 AM

in Florida it's - " the psycho capital of the world"

by Anonymousreply 26May 25, 2019 4:29 AM

R4, I LOVE that album. The opening track has a recording of a psychic reading Conor...

by Anonymousreply 27May 25, 2019 4:31 AM

I just may have a new place to call home.

by Anonymousreply 28May 25, 2019 4:41 AM

I've been in Cassadega. I never had a reading, but the town does have kind of a weird vibe. I was glad to get out of there.

by Anonymousreply 29May 25, 2019 4:57 AM

Question: Once you get to Cassadaga, how do you arrange for a reading?

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2019 11:37 AM

You can just wander around and look for the signs (it's a great walking town!). It's easy to find someone. You can make an appointment once you get there if you need to go at a specific time. There was a bed and breakfast there -- it was pretty spare. But that was years ago, so I don't even know if it's still there. Good luck!

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2019 1:13 PM

It should be called "the scam artist capital of the world". All those so-called psychics in that little village are just a pack of con artists preying on gullible dummies. Just like all psychics.

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2019 2:02 PM

I am aware there far more scam artist psychics than the real deal but I do believe there are those who do have a gift. Regardless I still plan to visit and stay at the Cassadaga Hotel because this town sounds very interesting. I’m going to do my research on the local psychics there. Also I do plan on visiting Gibsonton r18 along with Port Orange- the home of DL icon Aileen Wournos! I plan to stay in her motel room and drink at her local bar

You can go to Gibsonton, OP, but you probably won't see anything interesting. Those days are long gone. But if you're in the Sarasota area make sure to visit the Ringling Museum. The building is spectacular with lots of nice art, and the view of the Gulf from there is great.

A bit closer to Cassadaga you might want to check out Mt. Dora, which is known for its antiquing. And you might want to take a boat tour of Winter Park (if it's not too hot out). St. Cloud (east of Kissimmee) is an adorable little town, although it was much nicer before they started developing all around it. If you drive up A1A north of Daytona you'll see a spectacular view of the Atlantic to your right. And if you want to head over in my direction (Ocala National Forest), you can go west to Alexander Springs and swim in the beautiful, clear water.

If you have any other questions, OP, I'll check back in to see if I can answer them.

Great thread, I need to tell friends about it.

by Anonymousreply 36May 27, 2019 10:16 PM

I knew this thread was going to be started.

by Anonymousreply 37May 28, 2019 12:53 AM

I hope people keep it going.

by Anonymousreply 38May 30, 2019 11:43 PM

When you are in the Cassadaga can you ask if the Frumpf is going to be impeached? Re-elected? Or is going to drop dead on toilet eating a McFishwich any time soon? Tanks.

by Anonymousreply 39May 31, 2019 1:08 AM

Interesting connection to Lily Dale. Cassadaga sounds a bit more interesting because of the Florida setting. I imagine trees heavy with moss, lots of croakers and small lizards and garden snakes slithering about and a big black snake hanging from an large oak tree. Which is what Orlando was like back in the sixties. Lots of orange groves and BIG fucking spiders that lived in the trees and would weave giant webs between the trees like something in Arachnaphobia. And flying roaches. Also known as water bugs.

by Anonymousreply 40May 31, 2019 1:16 AM

You think someone would slip Nancy Pelosi the name of a good psychic or Nancy Reagan’s astrologer. Impeach or not to impeach? What say you Miss Cleo?

by Anonymousreply 41May 31, 2019 1:18 AM

I'd like to hear more stories. Perhaps this thread can help generate gay tourism.

by Anonymousreply 42June 1, 2019 10:35 PM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 43June 8, 2019 7:03 PM

OP, a WEEKEND? Where do you think you're going? A resort? It's just a trashy southern town. I grew up in Winter Park and as teens we'd drive through and try to scare ourselves with spooky stories.

by Anonymousreply 44June 8, 2019 7:31 PM

R44 I know it’s a shitty southern town and not a resort. I’m interested in visiting it for a day/night while on a road trip through Florida.

by Anonymousreply 45June 8, 2019 9:56 PM

Let us know how it goes. And be sure to get a psychic reading!

by Anonymousreply 46June 8, 2019 10:00 PM

Sounds interesting.

by Anonymousreply 47June 12, 2019 3:30 AM

I was there in the early 80s as well. The reading was pretty immaterial to me at the time. I wish I had it written down. There was one thing the psychic told me that I do remember and for some good reason. She said the beginning of middle age I would come close to dying and need a long period of time to recover, but I would eventually recover and I would be ok after that. She looked quite serious when she told me. It was eerie and my friend who I went with asked me the next day if I was ok after hearing that and I told him that it was a crazy thing. That is the only part of the session that I remember well to this day.

That was exactly what happened to me at 38. I was seriously hurt in a car accident and needed multiple surgeries on my face over 5 years!!! At first it was almost certain that I would be disfigured. Thankfully a great and artistic plastic surgeon was found who carefully and thoughtfully fixed the work that was already done (badly) and gave me my life back. I was able to work full time again and people who know me now have no idea, unless I tell them, that I endured more than 15 surgeries.

It was a traumatic period of time that a psychic from Cassadaga forewarned.

by Anonymousreply 48April 5, 2020 5:32 PM

A psychic told me I scared her because I was capable of great good but also great evil. Still waiting for the power!

by Anonymousreply 49April 5, 2020 5:50 PM

anyone else get a reading there?

by Anonymousreply 50April 5, 2020 8:51 PM

Shouldn't the town be called Cassandra?

by Anonymousreply 51April 5, 2020 11:08 PM

The con artist capital of the world is more like it.

by Anonymousreply 55April 5, 2020 11:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 56April 6, 2020 12:10 AM

Ladies above, Pulease

by Anonymousreply 57April 6, 2020 1:12 AM

I want to go!

by Anonymousreply 58April 6, 2020 1:16 AM

Let's organize a DL party bus to go sometime in October! We can all meet in Orlando, from there it is about 45 minutes to Cassadaga! We can find a place to picnic with the manatees after.

by Anonymousreply 59April 6, 2020 1:27 AM

That sounds lovely @R59
