And "what young man will want her"? It's more likely she'll be looking for someone closer to her own age or older at 60 or so.

There are no guarantees in any relationship. A woman who, at 18, marries another 18-year-old, could still end up being dumped 40 years down the line and find herself on her own for the next 30 years.

In the younger woman-older man example, 30 years of marital happiness is still 30 years of happiness. That's more than a lot of people get in life. I doubt that, in hindsight, the younger partner will look upon those years as having been 'wasted.'
