Synopsis and trailer.

[quote]When we saw David last, he had left Division 3, feeling like all these people who are supposed to love him unconditionally had turned on him, and therefore he wanted to go someplace where he could have that love. So he started himself a little old commune, basically, where he can relieve people's pain.

[quote]It’s at this commune where David meets another mutant, Switch, who will be played by artist and actor Lauren Tsai. Switch’s time-traveling powers will be the key to David accomplishing his plans as he is determined to repair the damage he caused. The hunt for Farouk awakened a new lust for power in David, who also realized that the root of his problems were much deeper than he ever imagined.

[quote]The next part of David’s story will also introduce his parents – Professor X and Gabrielle – who will be played by Harry Lloyd and Stephanie Corneliussen.

Dan Stevens looked best playing Matthew on Downton Abbey.

Edgy, artsy, rough are not good looks for him.

Even this is not as good as good.

It just needs to actually end, and end well.

by Anonymousreply 3May 7, 2019 7:14 PM

I am watching Season 1 and you can see him “acting” his little heart out. Awful.

by Anonymousreply 4June 6, 2019 9:51 AM

So are they FINALLY gonna make David evil? Like he's supposed to be.

by Anonymousreply 5June 6, 2019 10:06 AM

I've grown to detest time-travel plots. Commit to the story you wrote and don't press the lazy undo button. I see interesting pĺots chucked away because the writers lack the bravery to take them to their natural conclusion.

by Anonymousreply 6June 6, 2019 10:20 AM

Season 3 airs tonight. Since it's the last season I'm giving it another go. Plus, I'm excited that Charles Xavier will appear.

by Anonymousreply 7June 25, 2019 3:45 AM

That season opener was insane and some of the best TV I've seen this year. Certainly one of the best episodes of Legion ever. The visuals, the battles, the music... I kept thinking "This is exactly what Dark Phoenix should have been". They seem to be going out on a high note.

And I have to say, Lauren Tsai, who plays Switch, is a revelation. She's so charismatic I couldn't keep my eyes off her.

by Anonymousreply 8June 25, 2019 11:59 AM

I started zoning out halfway through the last season, so it took me a little while to figure out what was going on. I forgot that David is now supposed to be evil; I remember the Shadow King being evil so to see him working with the Division was weird. I recall that Syd had gone into the future and had last an arm or something? I guess I'll be able to sort it all out.

The producer is throwing everything at the camera now - some of it was pushing it. The girl crawling through tubes and dumb music sequences... hopefully they won't happen in EVERY episode.

by Anonymousreply 9June 25, 2019 3:22 PM

I loved all that. The more, the better. Lord knows I'm not getting it anywhere else.

by Anonymousreply 10June 25, 2019 3:31 PM

I watched the first season and generally speaking I enjoyed it. But season 2 felt annoying and confusing and I managed to watch maybe two or three episodes. I've been meaning to get back to it but I just don't want to, which is a shame, since I used to be a huge X-Men fan in my teens, and I've liked or loved most of Fox's X-Men films.

****SPOILER**** IGN gave an early review of 6 first episodes of season 3. The season premiere is apparently totally brilliant but things go south immediately after it.

by Anonymousreply 11June 25, 2019 3:31 PM

[quote] The season premiere is apparently totally brilliant but things go south immediately after it.

r11 That's a shame but I'm still holding out hope they wrap it up in a strong way. Yeah, the second season got lost in its own artsiness and was too deconstructed by half. David's #MeToo moment at the very end only made matters worse.

by Anonymousreply 12June 25, 2019 3:38 PM

Did Jean Smart's and Jemaine Clements characters get killed last season? I only half watched the last few eps of S2 and notice that Oliver and Melanie haven't been seen so far.

by Anonymousreply 13July 2, 2019 3:03 AM

[R13]Not that I'm aware of, though with this show, who knows. I recall some sequences last year that seemed to be flash-forwards of them living together in the Astral Plane remembering what happened (or will happen) to everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 14July 2, 2019 3:56 AM

I don't know why Jean Smart isn't around anymore, though I have noticed that Syd has suddenly started dressing like her. So that's peculiar.

by Anonymousreply 15July 2, 2019 12:36 PM

Nobody knows what the FUCK is going on with this show, but its Kush-smoking writers. I bet Stevens or Plaza couldn't even tell you. I'm staying until the end, but the premiere just didn't hold my attention Sure, it looked great but this snail's pace is KILLING me. The Shadow King is boring (and really no match for Legion, I'm a comic guy so that bothers the fuck out of me) and really wore out his welcome IMO. I must admit that Rogue-lite has been impressive recently.

I just want amoral David.

by Anonymousreply 16July 2, 2019 1:02 PM

What an incredible episode that was with the time demons. This shit is better than the X-Men movies! And that scene with Michael Chiklis from The Shield, which made it seem like FX itself was glitching, was amazing. Music is awesome as well.

I also loved the last flashback episode.

by Anonymousreply 17July 16, 2019 7:55 PM

At least creatures from beyond time attacking everyone gave an actual reason for all the surrealism in the episode, rather than it just coming out of nowhere as a stylistic choice. Where were they when Switch had to enter the cult's home through a musical set in a dry cleaner's?

by Anonymousreply 18July 17, 2019 12:49 AM

The time eaters look like Blue Meanies from 'Yellow Submarine.'

by Anonymousreply 19July 17, 2019 5:02 AM

They're definitely adding a lot of Yellow Submarine references in. The flying machine, the opening credit font...not sure what it means since I can never figure this show out...

by Anonymousreply 20July 17, 2019 5:10 AM

Did David move the cult/house to the actual 1960s?

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2019 7:55 PM

No, I think the show was always set during that time period, as evidenced by the retro clothes and furniture. We now have a confirmation of that as his mother was in the concentration camps before she came to the States.

by Anonymousreply 22July 17, 2019 7:58 PM

Didn't David specifically say that Farouk was in his mind tormenting him for 33 years? If it can be taken at face value, that would put the series beginning in the late 70s or so, depending on how long Gabrielle was institutionalized before having him.

by Anonymousreply 23July 18, 2019 1:12 AM

Yes, that's exactly how people on Reddit worked it out. It's the first time we've been given a tangible time period.

by Anonymousreply 24July 18, 2019 1:15 AM

Aubrey's scene watching her girlfriend have a baby, all the way to seeing her daughter grow old, was quite stunning.

by Anonymousreply 25July 18, 2019 1:38 PM

r25 It really was. And that little pile of ash in the room next to her at the end... were they implying that all really took place and that her girlfriend and her child are now gone, i.e. eaten by the time demons?

by Anonymousreply 26July 18, 2019 1:41 PM

Oh, and what was that blue matter Cary found on the chair? Did a time demon take a dump on it or what?

by Anonymousreply 27July 18, 2019 1:43 PM

That seemed to be the case. It sure *looked* like a pile of poo where the demon had been sitting, and Carey had a disgusted look on his face when he examined it.

by Anonymousreply 28July 18, 2019 2:19 PM

There was such deep humanism to this latest episode, I actually teared up during Melanie's speech at the end.

I liked the previous episode as well, even though it was painful to watch David (Legion?) give Clark's husband advanced Alzheimer's. It's crazy how far gone he is.

by Anonymousreply 29July 30, 2019 1:49 PM

They have wasted how many minutes of screen time on stoned hippies swaying around inside David's Playskool commune when they could have been getting performances like those from Jean Smart and Jemaine Clement all along this season?

by Anonymousreply 30July 31, 2019 1:24 AM

They wanted to establish David as a Manson-like character. But I agree, I want more Jean Smart.

by Anonymousreply 31July 31, 2019 1:29 AM

it was great to see smart and clement again. but the whole episode was so well done. great use of metaphor.

by Anonymousreply 32July 31, 2019 2:40 AM

[quote]it was painful to watch David (Legion?) give Clark's husband advanced Alzheimer's. It's crazy how far gone he is.

David is the hero of the show. He's only killing in self-defense and more importantly, he believes that he can undo everything bad that he had to do once he changes the past.

by Anonymousreply 33July 31, 2019 2:43 AM

After he had MeToo'ed Syd last season, the showrunner clearly said David is now the villain of this story.

by Anonymousreply 34July 31, 2019 2:46 AM

Jean Smart is playing Silk Spectre in the upcoming HBO's Watchmen. She's basically the older version of Malin Akerman's Silk Spectre from Zack Snyder's film.

The rap challenge: cute or lame?

by Anonymousreply 36July 31, 2019 3:30 AM

Both!

by Anonymousreply 37July 31, 2019 3:33 AM

Amazing episode and one of my favourites of the entire series. So David got the powers from his dad and schizophrenia from his mother? What a deal.

The time eaters are truly terrifying and they have to deal with them on top of Farouk now. "Daddy" was said so many times during this episode, I thought for a moment I was watching a Zilv Gudel & Rourke porn video.

Dan looked kinda like Nicholas Hoult in this shot? One more episode before the Fox X-Men era is over, New Mutants notwithstanding.

Typical Fox this Legion is nothing like the comic book one.

by Anonymousreply 39August 6, 2019 2:38 PM

Well, of course, it's a marriage of the comics and Hawley's vision. And you can never translate one medium into another another and retain the exact same feel of the source material, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 40August 6, 2019 2:51 PM

Aside from possibly the first New Mutants story featuring David Haller, I think the series has been much better than the comic stories he's appeared in.

by Anonymousreply 41August 7, 2019 3:08 AM

I get the hippy trippy angel but David was not possessed by the Shadow King until much later in life. He was part of a terrorist attack and the shock of the explosion caused him to absorb the mind of the terrorist leader and split his personality. He has three distinct personalities, the terrorist leader, Cindi, a pyro kinetic and Jack Wayne an evil alpha male type who controls his telekinetic powers. In the comics, Xavier never knew he had a son until much later in life.

by Anonymousreply 42August 7, 2019 3:35 AM

r42 Well, they erased the show's entire storyline in the series finale, so your version might still happen in the new timeline.

by Anonymousreply 43August 13, 2019 2:21 PM

what a sweet, come full-circle ending. well done series form start to end. even if i had no idea what was happening most of the time. and still loved it.

by Anonymousreply 44August 13, 2019 5:24 PM

i just realized that Lloyd (David's father) was also in Manhattan about the making of the bomb. (another good show, gone)

by Anonymousreply 45August 13, 2019 5:30 PM

r44 Agreed. I loved Switch's speech at the end, where she acknowledges their hardships. It's such a universal need, for us to know that our suffering matters somehow.

And of course, the mother's love giving David the strength to fight. And Farouk's unexpected growth. Basically, Farouk corrupted David, David made Farouk into a better person, and now Farouk has given David a chance at a better life. Full circle.

by Anonymousreply 46August 13, 2019 5:40 PM

Is it over? God, that was exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 47August 15, 2019 4:18 AM

R45, I first remembered Harry Lloyd from Doctor Who's, "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" story line. Interesting that he's the "Great Great Great Grandson" of Charles Dickens.

[quote]Well, they erased the show's entire storyline in the series finale, so your version might still happen in the new timeline.

The comics version can't happen either since Xaiver knows he has a son & what will happen if he's not in his life.

I was happy that the show had a "happy" ending with Charles about to go on to become a Professor and probably eventually form the X-Men.

Since David gave him knowledge from his own time and Gabrielle met a few of his "friends" I'm sure Cary/Kerry and Sydney will be the first people he goes to find and help which is probably why next time Switch said Sydney will have a great life & Kerry/Cary saw themselves as growing up at the same time since Kerry won't be stuck inside of him for years if the Professor can get her out sooner.

So the finale erased the entire history of the show but not really since those "erased" characters did all of that and will end up getting a better life.
