One thread to discuss the Daytime Emmys 2019.
Sorry, in advance, if there is another thread. I did a search beforehand, but I didn't find one.

Is there a Nightime Emmy Awards programme too?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 5, 2019 11:36 PM |
R4 The Emmy Awards, that happen in September, is really titled the Primetime Emmy Awards.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 5, 2019 11:40 PM |
Of course host Mario Lopez will have his kid on again tonight, ugh.
David Osmond is doing a song or something, I think he's Alan's son and also has MS. He has a big personality like Marie.

Judge Judy gets the Lifetime Achievement Award tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 5, 2019 11:42 PM |
Is Michelle Stafford there? How about Gina Tognoni?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 5, 2019 11:46 PM |
Did anybody watch that horrible opening performance? Allan Carr must have came back from the dead to come up with that shit. Peter Marshall has still got it and really should have hosted the show. But, why did they start the show early? The livestream on the Emmy website will not go live until 8:00.

Didn’t expect him to win
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 6, 2019 12:15 AM |
^^^ Did he bring his boyfriend?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 6, 2019 12:15 AM |
You know what? I just realized my stupid live stream on youtube switched from this year's red carpet to last year's award program, so I don't know what the shit is going on, and my posts at R12, R11, and R9 are a year out of date. Who has won this year so far, and have I missed anything?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 6, 2019 12:15 AM |
Rachel Ray is stuffed in that dress like a sausage.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 6, 2019 12:17 AM |

It must be being broadcast by Firefox.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 6, 2019 12:32 AM |
Ridiculous. How could the stream just fail like that, they have been streaming the show for five years, you'd think they would have figured it out by now.

OUTSTANDING GUEST PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES goes to Patricia Bethune (Mary, GH)
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 6, 2019 12:42 AM |
Nurse Mary Pat winning actually makes sense of the guest category.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 6, 2019 12:42 AM |
Lol y and r won for directing and writing for one of its worst years.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 6, 2019 12:46 AM |
Sorry Judge Judy, but I hate that new hairdo. Amy Poehler is Judge Judy's biggest fan, I didn't see that coming.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 6, 2019 12:47 AM |
R33 It only takes two episodes to win. And we know some PTB are better at selecting what they submit than others.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 6, 2019 1:01 AM |
I wonder if that cryptocurrency "company" that was said to be a sponsor at the last daytime emmys is back again this year?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 6, 2019 1:01 AM |
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES Hayley Erin (Kiki, GH)
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 6, 2019 1:03 AM |
Aren't there like 4 soaps left? Why even bother having awards. They might just as well give everyone a statue.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 6, 2019 1:05 AM |
Hayley lost a lot of weight.

[quote]Aren't there like 4 soaps left? Why even bother having awards.
Because the Daytime Emmy Awards covers more than just soap operas. Children's programming, other daytime programming, game shows, public television

OUTSTANDING CULINARY PROGRAM Valerie’s Home Kitchen
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 6, 2019 1:12 AM |
Holy cow. Whoever picked out Rachael Ray's dress must hate her
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 6, 2019 1:14 AM |
R42 Also, even though there are only four soaps left, they have large casts, so there are still enough people to fill out the categories.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 6, 2019 1:14 AM |
I didn’t see Hayley winning at all. Wow.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 6, 2019 1:15 AM |
R41 Yes, that was one of Frank's episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 6, 2019 1:15 AM |
R35 I’m aware. But most of the year was nonsense anyway. This is what inherently wrong with the daytime Emmys, judging anything on two episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 6, 2019 1:21 AM |
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES Max Gail (Mike, GH)
YESSSSSS. He was the one person I wanted to win!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 6, 2019 1:22 AM |
Okay. I can stop watching now.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 6, 2019 1:23 AM |
R48 two reels I mean.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 6, 2019 1:23 AM |
Dang, they are acting like Kathie Lee is entering a convent somewhere, never to be heard from again. I very much doubt that we'll never hear from her again. I wouldn't be surprised to see her return in ten years or so, with a talk show aimed at old people.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 6, 2019 1:33 AM |
OUTSTANDING CULINARY HOST Valerie Bertinelli, Valerie’s Home Cooking
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 6, 2019 1:35 AM |
Hayley Erin was a lot better at the end than she was at the beginning.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 6, 2019 1:37 AM |
She improved but certainly didn’t have the best reel.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 6, 2019 1:38 AM |
R55 But, she had the #Me-too reel.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 6, 2019 1:39 AM |
Oooh Anita Gillette.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES Vernee Watson (Stella, GH)
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 6, 2019 1:55 AM |
How is GH winning all the acting? This is fucking garbage.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 6, 2019 1:58 AM |
Damn I lost the Emmy I was going to use it for shishkabob.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 6, 2019 1:59 AM |
Damn, Aunt Stella! This new voting system is gonna need to be tweaked. Seems like a lot of third place votes are getting you an Emmy tonight for acting.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 6, 2019 2:00 AM |
I love how the Daytime Emmys include almost anyone who has even the most tangible connection to Daytime in the In Memoriam, unlike the Oscars and Primetime Emmys that always screws up and leaves people out because, they feel that they don't fit.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 6, 2019 2:02 AM |
Mishael deserved that
by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 6, 2019 2:03 AM |
R66 Remember it isn't so much about how well they do over the year but what they include on their reel.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 6, 2019 2:04 AM |
Is Alison Sweeney there?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 6, 2019 2:06 AM |
Is Sunday Morning, not the greatest journalism show of all time?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 6, 2019 2:08 AM |
Right, but they eliminated second round balloting this year. So we aren't watching the winner be the best of 5--they were the winner in a preferential ballot out of 10 choices. To get to a majority, you likely needed to get to third place votes, which is why a lot of winners tonight (Erin, Watson, Pettis) were on nobody's radar.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 6, 2019 2:20 AM |
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy, B&B)
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 6, 2019 2:22 AM |
Yeah, they are definitely going to have to tinker with the voting system again.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 6, 2019 2:25 AM |
OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINMENT TALK SHOW HOST(S) Kelly Ripa & Ryan Seacrest, Live With Kelly and Ryan
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 6, 2019 2:26 AM |
WHAAAT? Steffy won? For what? I can't believe anyone from that lame show would even get nominated. I confess I really don't watch it anymore but I have seen her enough to know she is not much of an actress. In fact most of that cast stinks.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 6, 2019 2:28 AM |
My God, some of these winners are ridiculous. That plastic face winning Best Actress? Bitch can't even emote because her face is so frozen.
Kelly and Ryan? Yawn.

OUTSTANDING DIGITAL DAYTIME DRAMA After Forever
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 6, 2019 2:29 AM |
R81 Maybe the voters thought she was a recovering burn victim and felt sorry for her.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 6, 2019 2:31 AM |
They changed things because of what happened with Patrika, the fact that some actors were allowed to submit their material past the deadline and their was accusations flying around that some of those actors and shows who won last year might have gotten preferential treatment.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 6, 2019 2:31 AM |
Can anyone explain the voting process or provide a link to how it works.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 6, 2019 2:33 AM |
R72 Erin and Pettis were in the Younger Actor/Actress categories, though. That balloting is handled differently for those two categories due to the small number of eligible nominees -- so small that they actually considered doing away with the two categories. I think the solution there is to combine the two categories and just make it the "Younger Performer" category - much like the "Guest Performer" category.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 6, 2019 2:34 AM |
West looked great in that GH reel, so it’s kind of surprising Wood pulled it off for basically just crying to Scott Clifton. At least it wasn’t pinch sphincter Tom winning for the 89th time. Yeah I think the new voting system is fucked. Gold Derby picked West, and I can see why.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | May 6, 2019 2:38 AM |
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH)
by Anonymous | reply 88 | May 6, 2019 2:42 AM |
Jon Lindstrom was robbed!
by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 6, 2019 2:43 AM |
Yes and no, r86. Those two categories did skip the preliminary nominating ballot because they had fewer than 11 options, so those who put themselves up were automatically moved to the "blue ribbon" round. They still were voted on, though, on that full slate--the five "nominees" were actually the top five finishers in a race of 10 pre-nominees. Because they use preferential ballots, with 10 options, it is almost certain it took third or even fourth place votes to get to the majority, which is how some of these people are winning.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 6, 2019 2:44 AM |
And you are also right that the young actor/actress category should be merged. Some of these nominees are WTF.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 6, 2019 2:45 AM |
OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINMENT TALK SHOW Ellen
by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 6, 2019 2:46 AM |
Does it really matter who wins these awards anymore? No network will air them and the audience for them would fit in someone's basement.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 6, 2019 2:47 AM |
Looks like one of Cin(Ben+ Ciara) fans were upset that Kyler was nominated but not RSW.

R94 RSW is six years over the age limit for the Younger Actor category.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 6, 2019 2:51 AM |

I just tuned in for the live stream. Are the Daytime Emmys playing the same music throughout? It is horrible.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES The Young and the Restless
by Anonymous | reply 108 | May 6, 2019 3:01 AM |
Y&R didn't win because it was the best, but because they were better at picking out episodes to submit.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | May 6, 2019 3:04 AM |
NOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO - not the midget mobster. Now all of his fans will be talking about what a great actor he is, and what's more it will probably get him even more airtime. Jon Lindstrom was the deserving winner and looking at some of the nominees in all categories they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with these nominations. The should change the name to the Best of a Bad Bunch.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 6, 2019 3:07 AM |

Mal Young learned from JFP how to produce emmy bait. He should have thanked her.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | May 6, 2019 10:09 AM |
Wasn't JFP's "Emmy bait," though, typically based on staging some kind of big production stunt, R129? I didn't view either of the episodes that Y&R submitted this year as that kind of thing. .. The one episode where JT was "killed' at the girls night party was simply the culmination of the domestic abuse story; and the other episode where it was revealed that Ashley was the one behind making Jack think he wasn't "a real Abbott" played into the sibling rivalry that we've been witness to for over 30 years.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | May 7, 2019 2:09 AM |
I remember DTE threads that would max out at 600 during the two hour live show on Friday nights.
By the next day, another thread would be up to 350+.
So sad that this thread is at 131; given the upsets you'd think that people would be squawking more about it here.

r131, the cancellations of OLTL and AMC seemed to be the final nails in daytime's coffin.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | May 8, 2019 3:18 AM |
The other aspect which is often overlooked is the death of the soap in NY. OLTL/AMC/ATWT/GL/AW all had a different "vibe" than the LA soaps.
