Cher's Current Tour: Here We Go Is Right

Forgive me, fellow Data Loungers, if this has already been discussed, but Cher's current show is simply a (barely) updated version of her 2014 "Dressed to Kill" concert. I went to her show at the Prudential Center last night. Same songs, same lineup. Except for dropping her three best songs -- Gypsies...., Half Breed, and Dark Lady -- in favor of three ABBA covers she had to include because of the recent album. What a gyp ... (tramps and thieves). I even think the same photo/movie montages from the last tour were used. It's all very enjoyable, but couldn't she have made a bit of a more effort? Especially since the cicket prices weren't exactly cheap? And yes, I know she's 73, which she enjoy's telling us and asking us 'What's your grandma doing tonight?" As much as I love you, Cher: My grandma is telling me the same stories over and over every day, charging me $$ to listen.

by Anonymousreply 57May 12, 2019 3:32 AM

And just to add, I meant to write "ticket prices," and, yes, "enjoy's" doesn't need an apostrophe.

by Anonymousreply 1May 4, 2019 1:40 PM

Sorry, the title was mean to be "... Here we go again is right."

by Anonymousreply 2May 4, 2019 1:49 PM

I see her in St. Louis on Friday nite.

by Anonymousreply 3May 4, 2019 1:54 PM

It was still a good time, even if you are right.

by Anonymousreply 4May 4, 2019 1:59 PM

It's a fun show, R3. I just wish Gypsies, Half Breed and Dark Lady had been included.

by Anonymousreply 5May 4, 2019 2:01 PM

I've seen Cher in concert 5 times over the years. I saw her in Toronto last month. Yes OP, her current tour is a modified version of her Dressed to Kill tour. This concert did seem the most low-key of the ones I've seen , but still very enjoyable.

by Anonymousreply 6May 4, 2019 2:09 PM

Enjoyed it even though I sat next to two queens who insisted on standing for every song, trying as hard as they could to have a good time, blocking the view of the sweet old ladies behind them (and getting into an argument with them). When they turned to me and suggested I stand up, I thought, bitch please. There’s no need to stand up to Walking in Memphis.

by Anonymousreply 7May 4, 2019 2:11 PM

I can't wait to catch the show in several weeks. The husbear purchased tickets for us!

Never been to a Cher show before, so this is a first (and likely last) show for me.

by Anonymousreply 8May 4, 2019 2:18 PM

I can't think of a reason to ever stand during "Walking in Memphis." God, I hate that song, although 'Chelvis' did a good job with it. I felt it was taking the place of a better song she should have included like "Heart of Stone."

by Anonymousreply 9May 4, 2019 2:19 PM

D2K was perfect. This show is definitely a bit of a downgrade. There are definitely elements that could have changed in terms of production that wouldn't require anything from Cher (or her age). I mean, really all of her tours since "Believe" have just been slowly changing. There aren't many drastic differences. I guess they figure if it ain't broke, don't gix it. She's selling like crazy too.

by Anonymousreply 10May 4, 2019 2:21 PM

Hell is other people, R7.

by Anonymousreply 11May 4, 2019 2:25 PM

There's always someone in their 30s or 40s at an oldies concert who wants to stand up throughout the whole show, while bitching about how "old" everyone else is.

Everyone else is the same age as the lady on stage, gurleena, so just sit your ass down and stop being a baby about it.

by Anonymousreply 12May 4, 2019 2:28 PM

R10: I wish she would have just kept Gypsies, Half Breed and Dark Lady in the set. They were in the setlist when she started the tour in Austrailia last fall. The Burlesque bit. Why? It's 10 years old and nowhere near a camp classic, so why include it?

by Anonymousreply 13May 4, 2019 2:32 PM

r7 is hilariously true.

I will miss Gypsies Tramps and Thieves. Walking In Memphis is shit.

by Anonymousreply 14May 4, 2019 2:37 PM

Saw her in Vegas, it was good fun, the old lady delivered!

by Anonymousreply 15May 4, 2019 2:57 PM

Her catalogue is mostly forgettable... especially the 80s stuff

by Anonymousreply 16May 4, 2019 6:00 PM

I saw her in 2002 and, judging from clips I've seen on Instagram, she's still using the same film montage of "Cher through the years" during one of her costume changes.

by Anonymousreply 17May 4, 2019 6:21 PM

r16 - asshole. people don't go to hear her "catalog" they go to enjoy the whole package that is CHER!

by Anonymousreply 18May 5, 2019 1:22 PM

Be thankful OP. Back in the late 70s, Cher refused to do any of her own songs other than Take Me Home. They were all covers of current hits.

This has to be her last tour. You can't wear assless chaps forever, even if you're Cher. Enjoy it.

by Anonymousreply 19May 5, 2019 1:47 PM

She'll soon be touring as a hologram.

by Anonymousreply 20May 5, 2019 6:02 PM

Since Believe I've seen Cher on every tour she's done. Her concerts are an event and I love them. I will agree that this current tour is a little less polished then D2K and her farewell tour but it still loved it.

Hands down the best performance of her I've ever been to was Halloween 2003 in Toronto's Skydome. That was supposed to be her final North American concert ever (one of the reasons my then boyfriend and I flew from NYC to see her). Because of that she extended her set list for one night only putting on some songs she rarely sings in concert. I think the concert was 2.5 hours altogether and you could tell she did not want to get off that stage. When she got to believe she was in tears, I think it should have been a sign even then that she felt she had made a mistake by saying this was going to be her final tour.

by Anonymousreply 21May 5, 2019 11:04 PM

R13, she dropped those songs in North A merica because she caught a load of shit for them from SJW. No lie.

by Anonymousreply 22May 5, 2019 11:52 PM

R22 oh ffs if that's true!

by Anonymousreply 23May 6, 2019 12:07 AM

R22, after I posted that I began to think the same thing. That some SJWs decided it wasn't politically correct for her to sing those songs. As R23 said, for fuck's sake! These "warriors" just need to shut the hell up. They get offended by EVERYTHING. Even a few story-songs from the early 70s. These SJWs really need to get real jobs.

by Anonymousreply 24May 6, 2019 1:05 AM

Cher was forced to change the fabulous Half Breed costume and headress, so just as well.

by Anonymousreply 25May 6, 2019 2:28 AM

I love Cher....still, the twice I’ve seen her in concert are the 2 worst concerts I’ve ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 26May 6, 2019 3:06 AM

I'm seeing her in Minneapolis in a few weeks too

by Anonymousreply 27May 6, 2019 3:44 AM

R26, is your taste as poor as your English?

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2019 6:01 AM

To be honest I am surprised she included Half Breed et al as long as she did. I love those songs but you could tell they were going to be problematic 10 years ago.

Which is a shame because Cher intends no ill will and they are three of her biggest solo songs.

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2019 7:37 AM

R26 why were they the worse concerts you've been to?

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2019 7:48 AM

Rave review and headline from Rolling Stone: Cher Succeeds at Everything She Does During Brooklyn ‘Here We Go Again’ Stop

I have seen Cher every tour since the mid-'90s. She is one of the greatest entertainers ever. Her concerts are events, happenings and celebrations. As she half-jokingly said in her "Farewell Tour" in the early 2000s referring to JLo, Brittney, Christina, etc.,: "Follow this, bitches." Turns out, no one can. Cher is larger than life and certainly larger than any other star who goes on the road and thinks she can top Cher. Don't even try.

by Anonymousreply 32May 6, 2019 9:27 AM

I want to hear Gypsies Tramps and Thieves. It's my favorite Cher song!

by Anonymousreply 33May 6, 2019 12:38 PM

She was in Newark on Friday . . .

R34, notice the reviewer mentions she never lip-synced.

by Anonymousreply 35May 6, 2019 1:25 PM

I was at that show, R35, and I don't exactly believe that. I think she lip-synched the Auto-Tuned songs, to give herself a breather, because there would be no way of telling that she was lip-synching on those songs anyway. I know she wasn't lip-synching on "If I Could Turn Back Time" because it became really screechy toward the end and she hit some off notes. She did an admirable job on that and "I Found Someone," though. I just think that she did indeed lip-synch at times during the show, which is totally fine. She's 73, for God's sake.

by Anonymousreply 36May 7, 2019 2:21 AM

"Screechy" was probably the wrong word, as it wasn't high-pitched. She started screaming the lyrics, though, and hit some off notes.

by Anonymousreply 37May 7, 2019 2:25 AM

R37, I haven't seen this show on the road (but in Vegas) and only noticed anything during the opening which would make sense. I remember an old interview, where Cher said they were working on her being able to do Believe completely live- that was the first farewell tour, lol.

Anyway, glad you liked the show. I'm seeing her in SF, since that's the closest to LA- unless more dates are added.

by Anonymousreply 38May 7, 2019 2:56 AM

I’ve seen her live many times but Here We Go Again was definitely the lightest version of Cher I’ve seen before. That being said it was still a great time and any Cher show is worth going to.

by Anonymousreply 39May 7, 2019 3:08 AM

To be expected at 73. No matter how much you exercise, eat well and don't drink or drug we all get old. It's still pretty impressive to do a show every other day on the road at Cher's age. She must like it, cause she certainly doesn't need the money.

by Anonymousreply 41May 7, 2019 7:06 AM

I saw her last night in St. Louis. She sure looks and sounds good at 73.

by Anonymousreply 42May 11, 2019 12:33 PM

This woman is as greedy as those PIGS in Fleetwood Mac. SO money hungry. Same old shit. Sung horribly due to deteriorating voices. Same stories. Same montages.

I have always like Cher. But she is as deep as a plate, not that intelligent, has a massive ego- and she is just not THAT talented.

Fuck all of these greedy baby boomer has beens.

by Anonymousreply 43May 11, 2019 12:40 PM

Unfortunately R43, most of the critics disagree with you about the voice and talent. Not to mention a sold out tour to back it up. No one's forcing you to see Cher, or anyone.

We should all be such has-beens.

by Anonymousreply 44May 11, 2019 12:56 PM

R44, Is her voice still good?? Or does she lip sync? (And I always liked Cher's voice)

I will admit I was wrong for saying that if she still can sing. But how many "farewell" tours has she done?

But I feel that an artist should give the fans something new when they shell out money to see them.

by Anonymousreply 45May 11, 2019 1:00 PM

Seems churlish to buy tickets with your hard earned cash to Cher then complain about anything.

by Anonymousreply 46May 11, 2019 1:31 PM

I still want a refund from her first Farewell Tour. That bitch pulled a major bait and switch.

by Anonymousreply 47May 11, 2019 1:34 PM

I think her voice sounds better now than 30 years ago. And definitely better than when she was with Sonny.

by Anonymousreply 48May 11, 2019 1:43 PM

I love Cher’s voice!!!

by Anonymousreply 49May 11, 2019 2:21 PM

You are shocked?

Living Proof Tour was just an update of the Believe Tour.

by Anonymousreply 50May 11, 2019 2:23 PM

At 73, Cher fans are fortunate to get any tour. I can see the residencies, but being on the road is rough.

by Anonymousreply 51May 11, 2019 2:56 PM

By her age, I had retired the straight pins and rubber girdles and retired to my gin and bed in Paris. It's a miracle this lady has the stamina and illusions, so you're getting plenty good value for whatever price you pay!

by Anonymousreply 52May 11, 2019 6:46 PM

Cher.

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 53May 11, 2019 7:00 PM

Cher is amazing. I have seen her about eight times in the course of 25-30 years. And yes, each tour is a slight reincarnation of the previous one with some added highlights. The ol' broad delivers. Her concerts are events and outstanding productions. She looks fabulous and is still in great voice. See her while you can. They don't make 'em like Cher any longer.

Check out her tour schedule. It is grueling. She's on throughout North America and Europe for nearly a couple of years, and with few exceptions she's performing every other night in a different city. Try that at 73, bitches. It ain't easy.

by Anonymousreply 54May 11, 2019 7:36 PM

her current tour is ambitious and amazing. she sings and banters with the audience. she's still got it.

by Anonymousreply 55May 11, 2019 9:18 PM

She is selling more tickets now that she has embraced Trump and his border wall solution. It was actually a stroke of genius to open her up to a new audience while jettisoning the one who had previously paid to see her multiple times.

by Anonymousreply 56May 12, 2019 3:29 AM

Oh shut up, R56. She's bashing Trump on Twitter almost every day. Blocked.
