Reversal of Fortune/ Claus von Bülow

1.Do you think Claus von Bülow killed Sunny? What do you think happened?

2.Do you think the movie was accurate? Was it well done? Did Irons deserve the Oscar?

3. What do you think of the young Dershowitz? WTF happened to him?

by Anonymousreply 28May 5, 2019 5:49 PM

Anyone?

Very few shots are more blackly hilarious than when Schroeder shows Sunny in a twin set and pearls slowly devouring an enormous hot fudge sundae (due to her hypoglycemia) in her enormous Clarendon Court dining room as her family looks on in horror.

R2 - Yes and Glenn played that up too.

by Anonymousreply 3May 4, 2019 5:30 AM

Yes, I think he injected her multiple times with insulin to put her in a coma and get control of her money. Dershowitz is filth.

by Anonymousreply 4May 4, 2019 6:30 AM

Claus either injected Sunny or he found her unconscious & didn't seek help for her. "Reversal of Fortune" is a well-made & well-acted film, however, Dershowitz is bizarrely portrayed as some sort of folk hero, he pulled the oldest lawyer trick in the book: he turned the the victim into the villain. Dershowitz is truly a loathsome piece of shit.

I actually don’t think he did it - I think Sunny did it herself accidentally. She had a history of accidentally OD’g in the past from her own concoctions. However I do think Claus knew what was happening that last OD, saw a way out of a marriage he had grown tired of, and just didn’t do anything to help.

I was convinced Claus did it when I heard that right after Sunny died, he went on vacation to Dyatlov Pass with Francine Hughes.

R6 seems like a likely course of events,

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2019 1:50 AM

God, do you blame him. She was miserable. She needed to get a life

1. Two people who were reckless with their own lives borne out of a sense of ennui. Whether Claus injected the fatal shot or not, or ignored Sonny's coma, it's hard in my mind to make a case for murder. Depraved indifference is more likely.

2. I think the movie was relatively accurate from an appellate defense attorney's perspective. Most medical evidence I've read has suggested that the specific syringe was planted. The movie is very good as a black comedy which is difficult to pull off. Irons's performance as Claus is very good but the problem is that he's repeated that performance so many times (and in fairness, people have imitated it a lot) it's lost some of its power.

3. Dershowitz started as a person who used the law to speak truth to power (and the Constitutional issues in the von Bulow case are rather important), but he was always a publicity hound. As his power has grown, he has started defending the powerful.

What about the "Dark Shadows" connection?

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2019 2:28 AM

The actress who played Victoria Winters was Von Bulow's paramour.

by Anonymousreply 12May 5, 2019 2:31 AM

Claus Von Bulow had a pretty mistress/girlfriend and she was pressuring him to marry her. Sounds suspicious all the way around.

by Anonymousreply 13May 5, 2019 2:34 AM

The very pretty Alexandra Isles who played Victoria Winters on "Dark Shadows" was his closet girlfriend.

Here she is, casting her own dark shadow, testifying at his trial.

Victoria Winters? No!!! Angelique, maybe.

by Anonymousreply 16May 5, 2019 2:42 AM

Angelique had nothing to do with this one!

It could have been a great film but for that unmemorable actress who played Sunny. Anyone recall who that was?

by Anonymousreply 18May 5, 2019 2:53 AM

Whoopi Goldberg would have been a better Sunny.

by Anonymousreply 19May 5, 2019 2:56 AM

I love this movie, but then I'm from Rhode Island. At the time, my mother brought up the fact that insulin has to be kept refrigerated so she wasn't sure why it was in the black medical bag. Otherwise, I agree with R6.

[quote]God, do you blame him. She was miserable. She needed to get a life

somehow killing her would seem not to advance that cause

by Anonymousreply 21May 5, 2019 3:34 AM

I always loved those last lines. Dersh: "You're a very strange man." Von Bulow: "You have no idea. . . ."

by Anonymousreply 22May 5, 2019 3:42 AM

Beautiful photo of Alexandra Isles.

I hated the 'Dershowitz and his law students' sub-plot, they should've cut that and made the whole movie about Claus and Sonny. It was ALL about Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons.

by Anonymousreply 24May 5, 2019 4:38 AM

R2....yes wearing enormous sunglasses and holding a cigarette. Classic!

It is always a risk to marry down.

by Anonymousreply 26May 5, 2019 1:44 PM

How could Glenn Close not have been nominated? Was there confusion about which category would be appropriate, diluting the votes?

by Anonymousreply 27May 5, 2019 1:48 PM

Oh r27 was that who it was? How strange.
