Susan Peters

Thoughts on Susan Peters? A brilliant actress I think-- nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Random Harvest (1942)--classically beautiful, too. Her career was tragically cut short after she was accidentally shot in a hunting accident, rendering her paraplegic. She attempted a film comeback, did some stage work (including a reworked version of Glass Menagerie) but ultimately died of a kidney infection brought on by self-imposed starvation at age 31.

How thoughtful, R1

She had an extremely tragic short life and got cancer and had to have a leg amputated towards the end.

She had a leg amputated, R3? According to her Wiki, she was only in a wheelchair for paraplegia. There's mention of a skin graft procedure, but nothing about having an amputation. In any case, she had a tragic life indeed. She seems more or less forgotten today.

Random Harvest is one of my favorite movies. It doesn't make sense but never have two people suffered more beautifully than Greer Garson and Ronald Colman. Having all of MGM at its zenith behind you helps.

Peters is quite wonderful as well. She had everything and life turned suddenly very tragic for her.

R3, you are thinking of actress Suzan Ball, second cousin of Lucille Ball.

Oh.

sorry, I was incorrect, it was actress Suzanne Ball that had the leg amputated. She was a beautiful actress about the same era as susan peters and she got bone cancer and had to have her leg amputated while in her 20 s. SHe married actor Richard Long about thqt time. Not long after............ she found out the cancer spread and she died shortly thereafter. Horrible tragedy and she somehow managed to keep up her spirits till the end.

When I read people on this site talking about how depressed they are and they cant get out of bed, and life isnt worth living etc..........they should read the suzanne ball story if they want to read about somebody that got a raw deal in life.

R8, it's Suzan, not Suzanne!
