Cancelled by investors.

Considering I didn't even realize this was a thing...

by Anonymousreply 1April 30, 2019 12:31 AM

THANK god!!!

Tickets costing $450 for a chance to stand in dirt somewhere in upstate NY to listen to Miley Cyrus and Chance the rapper...no wonder this shitfest got cancelled.

Jay-Z and Santana. What is this, 2003?

by Anonymousreply 4April 30, 2019 1:21 AM

Good idea to can it. I think the investors realized it would probably fail miserably.

You can’t recreate a 1969 event in 2019.

Too many changes - everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 6April 30, 2019 1:32 AM

The Woodstock in 1969 has always been romanticised to hell. People there said you couldn't hear the music, you were standing in mud and filth, drugs were everywhere, the people were high off their asses. "Peace, love and music? Yeah, right! The original Woodstock was, for the most part, a very unpleasant experience for the attendees.

Rock is dead.

"Do your own thing" is definitely dead since everybody is offended by everything.

Woodstock would be pointless.

Some things cannot be duplicated.

Just print up the T shirts and call it a day.

There are no do-overs with iconic, spontaneous historical events.

At the time I was visiting my grandparents in Westchester County. My cousins and I were going to head up to the concert in Bethel. The name Woodstock wasn't even mentioned. I was reluctant because I imagined it would be a mess and there'd be no way for me to change my contacts or go to the bathroom. Yes I must have been a picky PITA teenager. But when we were ready to go Friday evening the Thruway was already a mess and it might have even been closed down in the area by then. So we had our own party in North Tarrytown. I don't really regret not going.

Woodstock 94 was good but Woodstock 99 was a fucking disaster.

R11: The GenX'ers rioted at 99. I remember MTV covering it live on the final night with Carson Daly and Serena Altschul signing off as the riot cops marched in. That was the end of that.

Over what? They just needed copious amounts of pot.

A bunch of Douchebros with MAGA hats turned backwards? Where do I send my 500$?

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2019 11:59 PM

It would not work today. We are in a different time. In Trump's America, it will not happen.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2019 11:16 PM

Woodstock '94 was my generation, and it came and went. Nobody really remembers it. I knew a couple of guys who went and said it was lame.

by Anonymousreply 18May 3, 2019 11:37 PM

R13: Who knows? Nobody could figure it out. The next day there were smug boomer think pieces about how one more part of their glorious-ness was ruined by the yoofs.

Soulless money making scheme. Lousy music. Good it's dead.

Despite R7's account, I know several people who attended the original in 1969 - and across the board they report that it was an amazing event. I've always regretted not going. But I also, have had no interest in the 'sequels' - even Watkins Glen a few later held no allure.

These days, what's the point. isn't that what Coachella is anyway?
