Gwen Verdon in...Acid Trip!

by Anonymousreply 1April 27, 2019 1:04 PM

Very cute. Very gay. And very cute.

by Anonymousreply 2April 27, 2019 1:14 PM

All the best of the 1960's in five minutes.

by Anonymousreply 3April 27, 2019 1:23 PM

Who exactly were the dancers featured every week. I was fascinated by them growing up.

by Anonymousreply 4April 27, 2019 1:28 PM

Bravo, OP, bravo! That was top drawer from the beginning with Carol Burnett, who I would guess is wearing Bob Mackie? Then straight through Gwen Verdon's song and dance sequence.

I really, really loved this.

Thank you so much.

Oddly enough, Gwen began to remind me of Ruth Gordon, their voices share a similarity.

Anyway, all hail Gwen Verdon!

by Anonymousreply 5April 27, 2019 7:26 PM

Yep, puts a smile on your face.

by Anonymousreply 6April 27, 2019 7:28 PM

Mr. Lee Roy Reams is one of the dancers. Gwen did these things between ‘legitimate’ gigs and Mr. Fosse spent time in rehearsal rooms choreographing them for his pissed off fucked over wife.

Sorry for the reality check, kids!

by Anonymousreply 7April 27, 2019 7:37 PM

What do you suppose Gwen's age was in this video? 50's?

She is so light on her feet, it's just impressive.

by Anonymousreply 8April 27, 2019 7:47 PM

Designed by Dr. Seuss, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 9April 27, 2019 7:53 PM

I presume Beyoncé hasn't seen this yet, or she'd have already stolen the moves.

by Anonymousreply 10April 27, 2019 8:13 PM

It is very Dr. Seuss, r9, I'm glad you said that.

Such a delight to see Gwen Verdon in something new to me. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 11April 27, 2019 8:27 PM

I loved her in Damn Yankees, simply stellar.

Looking for a site that will stream....

by Anonymousreply 12April 27, 2019 8:30 PM

OP, your post deserves more views.

This is your Bump.

by Anonymousreply 13April 28, 2019 3:01 AM

R8 Based on the fact that it was Carol's first season Gwen is around 42 here.

by Anonymousreply 14April 28, 2019 3:24 AM

[quote] Who exactly were the dancers featured every week. I was fascinated by them growing up.

Those were the Ernie Flatt Dancers. There was one with a beard I was madly in love with as a kid. I can't tell if he's in this because the resolution is so awful.

by Anonymousreply 15April 28, 2019 4:13 AM

Everything in this clip is FABULOUS!

by Anonymousreply 16April 28, 2019 4:23 AM

Except the choreography. I hope this was not Fosse.

by Anonymousreply 17April 28, 2019 4:24 AM

Ooooo, I was thinking the same thing, R17. Nothing about it fits for Fosse. And with Ernie Flatt already on the payroll, why pay for Fosse?

by Anonymousreply 18April 28, 2019 11:57 AM

One of the dancers looks like Bill Hader! The one who wags his finger.

by Anonymousreply 19April 28, 2019 1:05 PM

This is amazing!

by Anonymousreply 20April 28, 2019 11:25 PM

Thanks for sharing this amazing clip.

It makes me really nostalgic for the time when stuff like this was regularly featured on prime time television. I miss the prime time variety format

by Anonymousreply 21April 29, 2019 12:11 AM

Well that's five minutes of pure 60s fabulosity!

by Anonymousreply 22April 29, 2019 11:06 AM

While Googling Ernie Flatt Dancers, I found this old DL thread. Actually, it was the first to show up.

Whoever Carol's handsome bearded dancer was, he gets at least one lustful mention every time the Flatt dancers are brought up.

by Anonymousreply 24April 29, 2019 11:14 AM

Who Is The Bearded Dancer?

A nine part series by Miss Ryan Murphy, coming soon to a fourth tier cable channel near you

by Anonymousreply 25April 29, 2019 12:38 PM

2 years later Gwen did Mexican Breakfast on The Ed Sullivan Show. Does she seem a bit heavier here?

by Anonymousreply 26April 29, 2019 12:43 PM

No. She's wearing white. And who knows what is going on with the video recording or the lenses used during the recording of the dance.

by Anonymousreply 27April 29, 2019 12:50 PM

The dancer who resembles Bill Hader is, I think, Don Crichton (sp), who was the lead dancer for the Ernie Flatt Dancers. And when was Lee Roy Reams ever an Ernie Flatt Dancer? Did he leave this show to go to Broadway?

by Anonymousreply 28April 29, 2019 12:58 PM

R28... Paragrah 2 below.

So, how do we get permission to see the video at R26?

by Anonymousreply 30April 29, 2019 1:11 PM

^ that's what I wanna know

by Anonymousreply 31April 29, 2019 1:16 PM

What a kitschy mess.

by Anonymousreply 32April 29, 2019 1:58 PM

Well, R32, that was the '60s.

by Anonymousreply 33April 29, 2019 2:01 PM

It's like watching your grandmother trying to "get down with the kidz."

by Anonymousreply 34April 29, 2019 2:45 PM

r30 If you want to watch the video, you have to pay Vimeo.

by Anonymousreply 35April 29, 2019 9:08 PM

Here's a YouTube version of Mexican Breakfast. Blurring but better than paying for it.

Oh the music has been changed.

by Anonymousreply 37April 29, 2019 11:15 PM

Thanks for posting this, OP! What a trip. My god, I had no idea how similar Gwen Vernon and Ann Reinking are! Their voices could be interchangeable.

It may not be Fosse, but I do love the Fosse-esque touches. Damn, his choreography was fun.

by Anonymousreply 38April 30, 2019 12:31 AM

Yeah, Fosse had a vision.
