The driver has not been identified. But the Corolla is registered to 34-year-old Sunnyvale resident Isaiah J. Peoples, according to state Department of Motor Vehicle records. That registration was revoked Wednesday, the records show. Peoples paid for the registration with a bad check on March 22, 2019, officials said.
Two officers with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety were standing outside Peoples’ home Wednesday morning.

Witness: Driver mumbling ‘I love you Jesus’ after injuring 8 in horrific Sunnyvale crash
SUNNYVALE — A driver suspected of plowing into a crowd of people in a busy Sunnyvale intersection Tuesday — injuring eight, including a 13-year-old girl — then stumbled out of his car mumbling “Jesus, I love you,” according to an eyewitness who watched the horrific crash unfold right in front of him.
The FBI is assisting the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety in investigating the incident, which Sunnyvale Capt. Jim Choi said could have been an intentional act based on the driver’s lack of attempts to slow down or stop before hitting the victims. In fact, Choi said witnesses told police that the driver might have sped up his dark-colored Toyota Corolla before the rampage ended when he crashed into a tree.
“Based upon initial witness accounts, there is no indication of the vehicle ever trying to brake,” Choi said Wednesday morning. “There is no indication the driver was trying to avoid the pedestrians.”
The registered owner of the Corolla is Isaiah J. Peoples of Sunnyvale, according to DMV records. On Wednesday morning, police were stationed in front of Peoples’ listed residence in the city.
While noting that police are considering that the crash was an attack, Choi said investigators are “looking at all potential motives” and that there “is no indication of terrorism” in the early stages of the investigation. Choi said Sunnyvale DPS is spearheading the case, and that the FBI was alerted as a matter of course “in case this turns out to be more than the scope of Sunnyvale.”
The FBI affirmed that the agency is on alert in the event any elements of the case fall under its jurisdiction.
“Should it be determined that a federal crime was committed, we will become more involved,” FBI spokesman Prentice Danner said.
Police said several victims remain in area hospitals, but did not immediately provide an update on their conditions Wednesday morning, and scheduled a 2:30 p.m. Wednesday news briefing at the Sunnyvale DPS headquarters.
Officers were called to the intersection of El Camino Real and Sunnyvale Avenue around 6:40 p.m. for a report of a major-injury collision, and arrived to find eight people had been hit by a car. Choi said the driver was traveling westbound on El Camino Real when he hit a group of pedestrians crossing Sunnyvale Avenue in a crosswalk.

San Jose resident Don Draper said he was on the way to visit a friend to watch the San Jose Sharks’ playoff game Wednesday evening, and had stopped for a red light at the intersection, when he saw the Corolla speeding past his left side.
“I didn’t really notice him until about he was directly in front of me, going at least 60 miles an hour,” Draper said. “Several people got hit. One person, a woman, was launched in the right in front of me. She was upside down, feet pointing straight up, flipped around and landed right in front of my car.”
Police say the man continued driving, allegedly striking additional pedestrians on the corner and sidewalk before crashing into a tree. Draper, 72, said he got out of his car and ran after the driver.
“I’m so horrified and enraged,” Draper said. “He had gone onto the grass and that’s when he hit the tree.”
Draper added: “He kept repeating, mumbling over and over again, ‘Jesus, I love you.’ He seemed to be dazed. At this point I walked back from where the car was, toward the intersection and dialed 911. I was so nervous and upset, I was having trouble dialing.”
On his way back to his own car, Draper recalled seeing officers tending to an injured bicyclist, mangled bike nearby. He discovered soon after that a man was knocked about 30 feet from the intersection, and that his daughter was the teen girl who was also injured in the crash.
Choi said officers arrested the driver, who was not injured. Draper said he saw the driver get handcuffed, and that he did not obviously appear to have been driving under the influence.
“His speech was not slurred when he was saying ‘Jesus I love you.’ ”
Both directions of El Camino Real were closed following the collision, and the westbound lanes were closed overnight before re-opening Wednesday morning.

The rank and file members of the Chicago Police Department are furious that Cook County state’s attorney Kim F*xx intervened to drop sixteen felony counts against Sm*llett and as more evidence, such as these photographs, continue to surface, it becomes even harder to understand Kim F*xx’s decision.
The files containing the photos were first released by the Chicago area blog CWB Chicago and reviewed by The Daily Caller.

That 'Jesus' comment makes it sound like he was thankful for surviving a crash, albeit, one he caused. Any word on the motive? Neglagent driving? Suicide attempt? Political/religious reason? Or is he just a psychopath? I admit I initially assumed that it could have been some retaliation for the Church burnings overseas, but I haven't read anything saying the victims were Muslim or shared an identity that the average American would confuse with Muslim or Middle Eastern.

Since the Merc R129 has a paywall, my local free paper states that Isaiah Joel Peoples, 34, is a former U.S. Army sharpshooter with a history of PTSD. He told authorities he intentionally hit people but has not said why. He is being held on 8 counts of attempted murder. He did not express remorse.

(Mercury News) Police have arrested Isaiah J. Peoples, 34, as the suspected driver who plowed a Toyota Corolla into a crowd in Sunnyvale Tuesday night, injuring 8 people. Here are five important things to know about him:
1. He is an Army veteran, who served as a gunner in Iraq in 2005.
2. According to his older brother, he showed signs of post-traumatic stress disorder and at one point had been hospitalized. The brother said their mother talked to him the day before the crash and told him that Isaiah seemed to be having “another episode.”
3. He worked in Sunnyvale for the Western Region Defense Contractors Audit Agency, a military audit agency headquartered in Virginia. According to the agency’s human resources department, Peoples began working there in August 2017, and is still an active employee.
4. After crashing his dark-colored Toyota Corolla into a tree, he was overheard by an eyewitness to the crash mumbling “I love you, Jesus” and “Jesus, I love you.”
5. His brother described the family as religious and said that their father was a non-denominational pastor.

He should have muttered: "Jesus take the wheel."

Well we still can't rule out terrorism. He was in the middle east, he could have been turned by the ISIS while over there and then activated as a sleeper cell "army of one" at this point.

California driver plowed into victims because he thought they were Muslim, police say
An Iraq War veteran who plowed into a crosswalk intentionally targeted the victims based on their race and his belief they might be Muslim, authorities in Sunnyvale, California, said Friday. The investigation into Isaiah Joel Peoples is ongoing.
His car plowed into a crowded, popular street, then slammed into a tree, leaving eight people injured, including a 13-year-old, who is of South Asian descent. She remains in critical condition and is in a coma, with part of her skull removed to relieve pressure.
Her father and brother were also hit Tuesday when police said he drove intentionally into a crosswalk while on his way to Bible study.

Sunnyvale police say Isaiah Joel Peoples, the Army veteran with Sacramento ties plowed through a group in a busy crosswalk Tuesday because he believed some of the people were Muslim.
“Based on our investigation, new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the Muslim faith,” Sunnyvale police Chief Pham Ngo said, according to San Francisco television station KPIX. “We understand that you will have many questions based on this announcement. However, we will not be releasing further information for now.”
The victims include a critically hurt and comatose 13-year-old girl with a life-threatening brain injury, according to court documents. A portion of her skull was removed to alleviate what was described in the documents as “severe brain swelling.” Several other victims continue to recover in area hospitals with broken arms and legs.
Sunnyvale officials stopped short of classifying the alleged attack as a hate crime – for now. But Santa Clara County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jay Boyarsky denounced the act in a statement and said Sunnyvale stands with the young victim.
“Even before our decision, I will say this: if this is a hate crime, there are far more than eight victims. Hate crimes are a brazen attack on our entire community.... We stand together on that street corner. We stand together in that young girl’s hospital room,” Boyarsky said. “This community has been hurt – but we are strong and steadfast and we will stand together against violence, ignorance, and hate.”
The news on the girl’s condition came as Peoples, the 34-year-old Army veteran who attended Sacramento State University faced a Santa Clara Superior Court judge in San Jose for the first time Friday at his arraignment on eight counts of attempted murder.

Who got fucked up in the head over the atrocities he witnessed and possibly committed while fighting an unjust and unnecessary war that only benefited Israel. The Zionists got all the gains, the Christians bore the duty and the price.
