Rep. Seth Moulton Enters 2020 Race
Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton enters the 2020 presidential race, launching a bid that would make the 40-year-old Marine Corps veteran the youngest president in American history.
"Ask anyone who's lost their job to a changing economy or a child to opioids or has to choose between heat and food in the winter, they're feeling forgotten," Moulton said in the video as he laid out policy positions that include growing the economy, confronting climate change and building a cyber wall to protect US elections.
A Moulton candidacy will center on his age and military experience. The 40-year-old lawmaker has routinely called for a "new generation of leadership" inside the Democratic Party, part of his effort to remove Pelosi. Moulton, in a knock against him with some Democrats, later voted for Pelosi's speakership after Democrats retook the House in the midterms.

Sorry, but we draw the line at 50 candidates for President, in one party.

I’d fuck him so yes. Watch out Pete.

I think at this point, the question is, which Democrat is NOT running for President?

Met him a few times in real life. In person he comes off quite attractive. Firm handshake

Not a geezer. Not a bigot or supporter of bigotry. Not a sex pest. He'll do!

I know Seth pretty well. He's bright but possibly the most ambitious human I have ever met. All of us who know him assumed he was gay, like his brother, but then once he decided to go into politics he became straight and even got married. Quickly.
All ambition. No real substance.

After watching him many times in friendlier environments, I saw him get sliced on Bill Maher last summer. He’s not smart on his feet and certainly not tough enough.

He looks good. But no, there’s enough candidates. Not considering any new ones at this point.

I guess he saw that people were taking Mayor Pete seriously and figured "heck, I'm three whole years older than him AND I'm a Congressman."
His advisors probably told him it was good practice for 2024 or 2028 and that it would raise his profile.
"I'm telling you Seth, anyone who's not running this year is going to be out of the game. We need to get you in front of all those small time donors so we can reactivate them in 24."

Presidents are made, not born. Good advisors and consultants, razzle-dazzle PR, ensure that he puts on a good show for the masses, and welcome to the White House, President Moulton.

He seems comfortable at a gay pride parade. I like that.
It took someone else at least 33 years to do the same.

Not quite. Mayor Pete is 37.

Elizabeth Warren is the other Massachusetts Senator running. She may not be too pleased Seth is doing this now.
As r8 mentioned, Seth is very observably ambitious.
That said, he would not be my current favorite, but is a better option than several who have declared earlier.

Theodore Roosevelt was elected at age 43 and is currently the youngest man elected President of the United States. If Moulton was elected, he would be 40 at the time, making him the youngest. Buttigieg does not factor into any of that. Not at all.

Buttigieg has been impressive.
Moulton needs to get his yellow teeth cleaned first.
Theodore Roosevelt was elected at age 43 and is currently the youngest man elected President of the United States.
Uh, not quite. Teddy ASSUMED the office of President at age 42 when McKinley was assassinated. JFK was the youngest ELECTED President at 43.

You're right, R20. I read too quickly.
But the point I was making is that Buttigieg has nothing to do with who was the youngest elected to the office. And that stands.

r15 He would be the youngest if elected, is what the article means, not that he's the youngest candidate.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 22, 2019 2:09 PM

If Moulton is elected he'll be 42. If Buttigieg is elected he'll be 39 the day before his inauguration.

Moulton is a Congressman, R16, not a Senator.
The other senator from MA is Ed Markey

R15 does not understand declension. Younger. Youngest. It's all the same to R15.

r23 Again, this isn't about Pete. If Seth wins, he would be the youngest elected president.
In other words, he's vying to become the youngest elected president. Does that clear it up for you?

This is a move for the VP job.
If a Demo does win in 2020, then they will be the incumbent in 2024.
This guy will be history by 2028.

Moulton showed extremely poor judgement in a very public way opposing Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House. I'm all for grooming a young Dem for Speaker, but after the Democratic victory in the 2018 midterms, selecting an inexperienced younger Dem to go up against Trump at this time would not have been wise.
This is a move for the VP job.
R31. Being from Massachusetts, I'm all for having another Democratic president from Massachusetts. However, Moulton brings nothing to the table as a vice-presidential candidate. There is no way Trump would ever win Massachusetts, which is Democratic stronghold when it comes to presidential politics. And Massachusetts doesn't have enough electoral votes to justify adding Moulton to the ticket.

A white guy won't be VP. Especially not one who doesn't bring anything to the table. Massachusetts is not in play.

The only positive thing one can say about him is that he is attractive. Other than that he has no substance at all. He will do whatever he thinks raises his profile the most. He's also not good a politics. He BADLY mishandled his poorly thought out plan to knock Pelosi from her position. She ran circles around him. He isn't really smart enough to even be a congressman. One of those people with money and looks that only run for something because they think they can win, not because they believe in anything

[bold]Seth Moulton Ends 2020 Presidential Campaign With a Warning[/bold]
And he's out.
Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts is dropping out of the presidential race, ending a candidacy that emphasized Mr. Moulton’s centrist politics and military service but gained no traction with Democratic primary voters.
He warned in the interview that if Democrats were to embrace an overly liberal platform, it could make it harder for the party to defeat President Trump.

The only significant part of Moulton's announcement at R38 is that he says he might support Biden.
And that probably won't move the dial a whole lot.

r42 It's not significant at all as Moulton has always described himself as a centrist. So of course he wouldn't have gone for any of the others.
