DL who are the nicest and meanest gay celebs? Have you met any of them?

From news to entertainment to politics to reality tv...

by Anonymousreply 93May 2, 2019 12:13 PM

Meanest I've met: Kathie Lee Gifford, Barry Manilow, Kathleen Battle & soprano Ruth Ann Swenson. Nicest: Jimmy Jam, the ladies of En Vogue, Garth Brooks, KD Lang, Yo-Yo Ma and several Met opera stars including Pat Racette, Renee Fleming, Leonie Rysanek, Rosalind Elias, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Martina Arroyo.

by Anonymousreply 1April 21, 2019 8:33 PM

R1, I don't think those celebs are all gay.

OP specified "gay celebs".

by Anonymousreply 2April 21, 2019 8:35 PM

Barry Manilow is mean?

Tell us more!

by Anonymousreply 3April 21, 2019 8:36 PM

R1 Barry is mean? wow what happened when you met him

by Anonymousreply 4April 21, 2019 8:37 PM

Meanest = Linda Lavin. Basic bitch.

Nicest = Heather Locklear. So pretty and kind (circa mid 80's)

by Anonymousreply 5April 21, 2019 8:41 PM

r5, still not gay. Op is clear and emphatic GAY CELEBS.

by Anonymousreply 6April 21, 2019 8:43 PM

Queen Latifah was a sweetheart as was Cheyenne Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 7April 21, 2019 8:48 PM

R6, I pointed out the same thing and no one paid attention.

by Anonymousreply 8April 21, 2019 8:52 PM

R7 how did you meet Queen?

by Anonymousreply 9April 21, 2019 9:06 PM

Julianne Moore. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 10April 21, 2019 9:20 PM

Meanest: Paul Lynne

by Anonymousreply 11April 21, 2019 9:28 PM

^^^ Lynde

by Anonymousreply 12April 21, 2019 9:28 PM

Nice or mean, R10? You didn't specify.

by Anonymousreply 13April 21, 2019 9:30 PM

Hugh Jackman looks like the nicest gay celeb.

Brett Easton Ellis is probably the meanest gay celeb.

by Anonymousreply 14April 21, 2019 9:30 PM

Plenty of crazy stories about Kathleen Battle -- including calling her manager from her limo to tell him to tell the driver to lower the air conditioning; taking over fellow soprano Carol Vaness' star dressing room when doing "Marriage of Figaro" at the Met, even though the soprano who does Vaness' character of the Countess traditionally get star dressing room; having an argument during a sitzprobe with full orchestra with everyone working on the clock), to which the conductor calmly said to management "get the cover"( understudy) to continue the rehearsal; insisting that no one look at her during rehearsal (she's gong to be looked at by a paying audience for fuck's sake); yelling at beloved mezzo at a rehearsal, who, bad mistake, turned out to be a long-term friend of the general manager, who finally fired her after these and many other instances of bad behavior. There's a video on youtube (or was) that shows Battle very quickly ending an interview, clamming up, giving loads of side-eye and leaving when an interviewer changes the subject and asks if the stories of her being somewhat (somewhat!) difficult are true.

by Anonymousreply 15April 21, 2019 9:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 20April 21, 2019 9:43 PM

kd lang. Kindest, most genuine and humble famous person I've ever met.

by Anonymousreply 21April 21, 2019 9:43 PM

Maureen McGovern. Not as famous as she thinks. Mean dyke.

What's up with that?

by Anonymousreply 22April 21, 2019 9:51 PM

Debbie Reynolds

by Anonymousreply 23April 21, 2019 9:59 PM

R22, I didn’t realize Marcia Brady was a dyke.

by Anonymousreply 24April 21, 2019 9:59 PM

John Cleese and Michael Palin - very nice

Robbie Williams - also very nice

by Anonymousreply 25April 21, 2019 10:08 PM

WTF?? Do you not see the title of this thread? It's GAY celebs, not John Cleese, Michael-Fucking-Palin, etc. Are you all retarded?

by Anonymousreply 26April 21, 2019 10:31 PM

Kathleen Battle sounds like a silly woman if the rumors were true.

by Anonymousreply 27April 21, 2019 10:31 PM

Its been 2 hours R26. Get a clue.

by Anonymousreply 28April 21, 2019 10:33 PM

I would sometimes sit at the back bar at Uncle Charlie's South (38th & 3rd) and talk with Barry Manilow. He seemed like a very nice man. He wasn't famous famous yet, but I knew who he was.

by Anonymousreply 29April 21, 2019 10:35 PM

Kathy Battle seems delusional, narcissistic with sociopath tendencies. Extremely phony and self involved. It's probably hard to be a black diva in opera, an unpopular niche audience art form with few black people.

by Anonymousreply 30April 21, 2019 10:45 PM

A few acquaintances of mine have met Terry Miller and all had negative things to say about him

by Anonymousreply 31April 21, 2019 11:07 PM

You know, I think I might be on the spectrum.

by Anonymousreply 32April 21, 2019 11:21 PM

People in the San Francisco Opera wore t-shirts after she finished doing "Daughter of the Regiment" after Kathleen Battle had finished her engagement there stating "I Survived the Battle". That was the opera she was finally fired for at the Met. Someone I know called her more of a skirmish than a battle though.

by Anonymousreply 33April 22, 2019 12:33 AM

Spent some time with Gus Kenworthy, who is acquainted with one of my friends. I wanted to hate him but he was just so nice, and friendly.

by Anonymousreply 34April 22, 2019 1:29 AM
I didn’t realize Marcia Brady was a dyke.

Seriously? You think Maureen McGovern played Marcia Brady?

by Anonymousreply 35April 22, 2019 1:30 AM

Matt Lauer was a real asshole. Drew Barrymore couldn't have been nicer.

by Anonymousreply 36April 22, 2019 1:39 AM

r35, yes, I remember her singing There's got to be a Morning After during one of the Brady Bunch Variety shows.

by Anonymousreply 37April 22, 2019 1:40 AM

I met Jimmy Page in London about six years ago and he was really, really nice.

by Anonymousreply 38April 22, 2019 2:05 AM

Oops! ^^^^ Definitely not gay.

by Anonymousreply 39April 22, 2019 2:06 AM
yes, I remember her singing There's got to be a Morning After during one of the Brady Bunch Variety shows.

Are you sure? I think it was when Maureen McCormick was doing commercials for the morning after pill.

by Anonymousreply 41April 23, 2019 11:29 PM

Despite his public ebullience and optimism, Charles Phoenix is a surprisingly sour piece of work when not in front of an audience -- much like Paul Reubens when he's not Pee-wee Herman, who is broody and depressive.

by Anonymousreply 42April 23, 2019 11:45 PM

Fred Schneider. What a fucking asshole. Droll, sardonic, condescending and bad manners. Real bad manners.

by Anonymousreply 43April 24, 2019 12:03 AM

That's too bad about Charles Phoenix. Do you have a personal story?

by Anonymousreply 44April 24, 2019 1:51 AM

Nicest, most genuine person = Rory O'Malley

by Anonymousreply 45April 24, 2019 2:06 AM

Who the fuck is Charles Phoenix?

by Anonymousreply 46April 24, 2019 2:25 AM

I concur with r43. He's a jerk.

by Anonymousreply 47April 24, 2019 3:44 AM

I used to live in Seattle and encountered DL icon Dan Savage a few times, mostly at a local restaurant we both frequented. He's every bit the condescending cunt you'd expect. Him a,d Terry were made for each other.

by Anonymousreply 48April 24, 2019 4:06 AM

NPH - very humble and friendly on the two occasions we interacted socially.

by Anonymousreply 49April 24, 2019 4:15 AM

Jeff Lewis was surprisingly charming and funny. Only met him once, so definitely could have been an outlier. Clay Aiken was douchey and very pompous.

by Anonymousreply 50April 24, 2019 4:18 AM

Seann William Scott is one of the nicest gay celebrities I've ever met. Yes, I know he's never come out, but COME ON.

by Anonymousreply 51April 24, 2019 4:21 AM

Only one encounter, but Divine was lovely and polite even though he obviously was exhausted.

Edith Massey (not gay) also was there, and what John Waters says is true: she was a sweet old chatterbox. ("Didjuh see me in Pink Flamingos? I was the Egg Lady! I was in Female Trouble too!")

by Anonymousreply 52April 24, 2019 4:25 AM

R51, Seann William Scott supposedly was engaged to model Lindsay Frimodt for a couple of years, but they didn't end up getting married.

by Anonymousreply 53April 24, 2019 4:25 AM

"Maureen McGovern. Not as famous as she thinks. Mean dyke."

Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 54April 24, 2019 4:30 AM

Heather Matarazzo is just as sweet as she can be

by Anonymousreply 55April 24, 2019 6:22 AM

Maureen McGovern is a dyke?

I guess it explains this outfit.

NPH & hubby were very pleasant when I met them a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 57April 24, 2019 6:34 AM

More?

by Anonymousreply 58April 28, 2019 1:17 AM

PEOPLE IN OPERA AND ON BROADWAY ARE NOT, I REPEAT, NOT CELEBRITIES!!!

WHAT IS WITH YOU IGNORAMUSES? FIRST OFF THE CELEBRITY NEEDS TO BE A QUEER, SECOND, EVERYONE IN FLYOVER LAND HAS TO KNOW WHO THE FUCK THEY ARE!!!!!

I HATE EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE OF YOU!!!!

by Anonymousreply 59April 28, 2019 1:27 AM

^^Yet you yourself seem like such a sweet little flower.^^

by Anonymousreply 60April 28, 2019 1:34 AM

r57, you are the meanest, shrill non-entity gay I've never met.

by Anonymousreply 61April 28, 2019 1:34 AM

Met Fred Schneider at some Baltimore film festival years ago and not so much an asshole as just guarded and shy. I told myself that anyway. It took me a moment to figure out it was him since a bunch of us were standing in a circle talking and somehow he was there.

John Waters = fun as you'd expect but keeps moving so get him while you can

My least favorite gay celeb? Tom Hulce. Of the Hulces from Mars. What a disappointment.

My favorite? The gay well-known novelist I dated for a while. Flawed but wonderful. Good memories.

by Anonymousreply 62April 28, 2019 1:40 AM

Fred Schneider is a very nice man. Rather shy and I’ve seen people corner him in public and “Hey aren’t you Fred Schneider?” It’s a little awkward for all.

by Anonymousreply 63April 28, 2019 2:01 AM

Trevor Donovan is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.

by Anonymousreply 64April 28, 2019 2:07 AM

I'd like to chime in on Fred Schneider and second those who say he's an asshole.

He's an asshole. Very rude and dismissive. And if it doesn't directly benefit Fred, he doesn't want to hear about it.

by Anonymousreply 65April 28, 2019 2:27 AM

I saw Mario Cantone on the street and said hello. He stopped and we chatted— very sweet, down-to-earth guy

by Anonymousreply 66April 28, 2019 3:37 AM

John Watets is a doll. No attitude what so ever. Friendly and charming. Rosie O'Donnell. Pure psycho. Ragaholic and MEAN. Madonna. Horrible person. Snarky, humorless. Bitter and a major Bitch. Everything you have ever heard about her awful personality is true. Vincent Price. Wonderful, Brilliant man. Like John Waters , not a hint of attitude. Interesting and charming. When he passed away I was quite saddened. Ricky Martin. Stand offish but Charming. Andy Cohen. A big ole girl stuck in a 50 year old body. A real shallow queen. ..who drinks. Calvin Klein. A weirdo. I knew him.when he was younger and he was a emotional mess. The nasty coke habit didn't help. Harvey Firestien. So cheap he squeaks. A walking smorgasbord of New York Jew stereotypes. Not only obnoxious but very bitter. Isaac Mizrahi. Needs to speak to three psychiatric specialist just to get out of bed each morning. Agony to work with. All consuming neurotic narcissism.

by Anonymousreply 67April 28, 2019 3:39 AM
My least favorite gay celeb? Tom Hulce. Of the Hulces from Mars. What a disappointment.

I haven't thought of Tom Hulce in years, but I do remember that those who knew him said he had B.O. bad enough to knock a buzzard off a shitwagon.

by Anonymousreply 68April 28, 2019 3:47 AM

Joan Jett is straightforward, matter-of-fact, and friendly when she has time.

by Anonymousreply 69April 28, 2019 3:49 AM

Bryan Batt from MAD MEN is a doll.

by Anonymousreply 70April 28, 2019 4:12 AM

R70 I hated that arrogant twat Matthew Weiner wrote him off the show.

by Anonymousreply 71April 28, 2019 4:18 AM

R71, me too. I kept waiting for Sal to come back. Best character.

Aw, I’m sad to hear about Tom Hulce.

by Anonymousreply 72April 28, 2019 4:41 AM

A friend of mine used to work in "the biz" behind the scenes, and he said Hulce was by far the worst celebrity he ever had to work with on a set. Mean and crazy and gross.

by Anonymousreply 73April 28, 2019 4:52 AM

Hulce hasn't been relevant since "Amadeus" in 1984, and even then he was upstaged by someone far more talented.

by Anonymousreply 74April 28, 2019 4:55 AM

Yeah but I loved him in Amadeus and Slamdance.

by Anonymousreply 75April 28, 2019 4:59 AM

Great actor and definitely falls into the "gay celeb" category. Too bad he's such a creep. You think the roles dried up for any other reason?

by Anonymousreply 76April 28, 2019 6:19 AM

Wasn't Kathleen Battle the same opera singer that was so mean to her makeup artist she made her cry? And the woman's husband was the lighting tech and was so pissed that during the finale when Battle was singing the end of the last song, he turned off the spotlight and made her sing that note in the dark for 30 seconds, and only turned it back on when the song was over.

I read that in a magazine. Anyone else remember that?

by Anonymousreply 77April 28, 2019 6:43 AM

r67 Madonna is gay?

by Anonymousreply 78April 28, 2019 3:32 PM

Very nice - Denis O'Hare.

Not very nice - Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

by Anonymousreply 79April 29, 2019 4:02 AM

JTF also wretched breath, seriously.

by Anonymousreply 80April 29, 2019 4:05 AM

I've met John Waters a number of times, quite accidentally, but we ended up talking, and he is always charming and polite. He's just like you think, and always manages to be casually hilarious.

Drew Barrymore is a kooky delight, even when serious. She had surprisingly nice manners the two times we were in contact at work events.

I hear mega popular Broadway choreographer Sergio Trujillo is a mean and difficult person, which is too bad. I used to see him around in the late 80s and thought he was a doll.

Biggest pain in the ass ever? Elaine Stritch. I always assumed she was gay, but didn't realize it.

by Anonymousreply 81April 29, 2019 5:13 AM

I’ve met Lily Tomlin a bunch of times. She’s always been very nice to me.

by Anonymousreply 82April 30, 2019 12:35 AM

Agree about Bryan Batt, extremely nice. I lost interest in Mad Men when I realized he wasn’t coming back.

by Anonymousreply 83April 30, 2019 12:49 AM

R82 I concur on Lily Tomlin. She was extremely nice and completely professional.

by Anonymousreply 84April 30, 2019 12:56 AM

R84 probably helped that you weren't David O Russell.

by Anonymousreply 85April 30, 2019 3:33 AM

Bryan Batt is indeed a nice guy. Friendly, chatty, unaffected.

by Anonymousreply 86April 30, 2019 3:48 AM

Jack black is a sweetie. Jon Hamm a rude drunk. And surprisingly Christian Bale was really kind. My friend dared me to say hi to him. He must have been in a good mood that day.

by Anonymousreply 87April 30, 2019 3:59 AM

I was an extra in a movie, and Alan Rickman went out of his way to be nice to me. Which only confirms his reputation.

by Anonymousreply 88April 30, 2019 4:15 AM

FormerBHmanny has outed himself as a complete fraud regarding John Waters

by Anonymousreply 89April 30, 2019 10:00 AM

Who have ever met Richard Cox? he was in one of my favourite movie Cruising and we don't know much about him.

by Anonymousreply 90May 2, 2019 10:21 AM

Gay, gay, and gay, r87?

by Anonymousreply 91May 2, 2019 11:24 AM

I can concur, R89, because my experience with John Waters (2007 in Greensboro, NC) was a pleasant one.

by Anonymousreply 92May 2, 2019 12:12 PM

Add me to the list of people who quit watching [italic]Mad Men[/italic] when Sal was fired.
