Last night I watched Call the midwife and they had these women wearing dresses that were tight around their stomachs. That is a recent fashion. I remember growing up, you could always tell who was pregnant because they wore maternity clothes which were never right across the belly. They were tent-like. Pregnant women didn't want to be reminded of how big their bellies were, so they didn't wear tight clothes. Women even wore maternity tops before they were showing, just to let people know they were pregnant. No woma wanted to wear clothes that were tight across their stomachs
