I enjoy pineapple and ham on pizza. I know many will be disgusted but I'm not ordering pizza for you. 🍕
You're an uncouth animal, OP. Get help.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 21, 2019 4:46 AM |
Love it. Not with jalapeños, though. They belong on a pizza with ground beef topping.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 21, 2019 4:47 AM |
If I only get one topping, it's always pineapple. I'm never going back to pizza without pineapple. Pineapple with other toppings are fine, but must have the pineapple.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 21, 2019 4:48 AM |
Yes, pineapple is a must-have topping for me. But I don’t have to have it with ham. I prefer sausage.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 21, 2019 4:59 AM |
But pineapple mixed with cheese and tomato sauce is weird!

[quote]But pineapple mixed with cheese and tomato sauce is weird!
No, it’s not. It’s the perfect combo. The only time it would be weird is it’s on a white sauce pizza.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 21, 2019 5:02 AM |
Pineapple on pizza is my favorite topping but not with ham, although I know that’s traditional “Hawaiian Style”.
Some runner up toppings for me: onions, green peppers and mushrooms.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 21, 2019 5:02 AM |
Pineapple pizza has grown on me over the years. No complaints from me.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 21, 2019 5:02 AM |
Whenever I go to the make your own pizza places like Pieology or Blaze, I always ask them to load up with extra extra extra pineapple until it’s a pyramid.

The sweet and salty combo of the pineapple and ham work well together, and I enjoy a yearly slice. I just don't think of it as being pizza.

On a episode of that Anthony Bourdaine show. This well known place called Pizzarium in Rome made something akin to pineapple and ham pizza and Bourdaine loved it. Yes OP I love Hawaiian pizza. I am always watching my weight but if i could get away with it i would eat it weekly instead of once a year.

For how many years have Americans varied the toppings on their pizza? I thought the Europeans wew the ones who experimented with different toppings before you guys.

When I was around 12, every time I visited my Aunt's house she would order Canadian Bacon/Pineapple pizza and I would get sick and end up vomiting. I loved eating it, but I don't know what in the pizza was bothering me. Maybe the cooked pineapple disagreed with my stomach? Has anyone else ever had that reaction? I've eaten Canadian Bacon/Pineapple pizza now that I'm older and it doesn't seem to bother me anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 21, 2019 7:35 AM |
Pineapple has an enzyme that bothers some people’s digestive systems.
I do like pineapple on pizza.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 21, 2019 7:51 AM |
I thought that pineapple used as a topping on pizza would be repulsive, but was somewhat pleasantly surprised when I begrudgingly finally tried it a few years back. I love pizza but don't order it as often as I used to (for the the obvious reasons listed above). I am not a fan of ham on pizza whatsoever though. Ditto for jalapenos tasting great on pizza. Love it!

It's a symptom of the insatiable desire for sugar that people in the US have.
Pretty much everything that you eat is regarded as too sweet outside of your country.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 21, 2019 8:56 AM |
It doesn't make the whole thing sweet. It makes it a tasty combination of sweet and savory.

I love a "maui wowie" pizza with pineapple, onions, jalapeno peppers and ham (or sausage).
I also like banana peppers on pizza and saukraut on pizza too!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 21, 2019 9:22 AM |
I've tried pizza with pineapple on it and it was not bad. I wouldn't want it often, just maybe once in a great while.
In the 1970s I created my own special pizza combo: Sausage, green peppers, onions and extra cheese with a partially melted Reese's peanut butter cup in the middle. The sweet chocolate, the peanut butter and the sausage, peppers and onions with extra Mozzarella all combined into one bite was a taste buds treat. Eventually I grew out of that phase but I sure enjoyed it for awhile...and friends I introduced it too also loved it. So it wasn't just me. I've lost my taste for sweets so I would never try that now.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 21, 2019 9:36 AM |
In the upper midwest they put sauerkraut on pizza. Same idea as pineapple.
People want a sour flavor on their pizza sometimes. It breaks through the greasy and heavy flavors of meat and cheese. Combining sour with meat - lingonberries, cranberries - is common enough.

R13 The British Columbian provincial food is the Hawaiian Pizza which edges out the Nanaimo Bar, another local favourite. There was a referendum where the pizza nearly became the main subject on the provincial flag but was defeated. The salmon is the third favourite food here and certainly has its admirers.

It's freaking bread--you can put anything you want on it. I love pineapple, though not really on pizza. I hate stupid groupthink snobbery like this. Somehow, somewhere this became a signifier of being unsophisticated and people latch onto it for virtue signaling. Like making fun of Walmart shoppers.
