People are pooping more than ever on the streets of San Francisco

One of America's wealthiest cities has a huge problem with public poop.

In 2011, just over 5,500 reports were logged by the San Francisco Department of Public Works; in 2018, the number increased to more than 28,000.

Notably, this is a chart of only documented reports — the actual amount of feces on San Francisco's streets is likely even higher than these statistics suggest.

I left my turd in San Francisco..

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2019 3:02 AM

San Francisco is the new New Delhi.

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2019 3:06 AM

F&F the obsessive scat troll

by Anonymousreply 3April 20, 2019 3:06 AM

Hokey smokes that city grosses us out.

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2019 3:07 AM

Thanks OP, just in time for my vacation next month in SF.

[quote]In 2011, just over 5,500 reports were logged by the San Francisco Department of Public Works; in 2018, the number increased to more than 28,000.

I'm a bit more flummoxed by there being 5,500 reports in 2011 - FIVE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED.

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2019 3:09 AM

We’ll accept your apologies now.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2019 3:11 AM

Perhaps if CA didn't have its tax dollars redistributed to Red states, CA could provide services. Perhaps if the sitting president did not withhold federal dollars to punish blue states for being democratic, CA would have federal block grants for services.

I get it, OP. Schiff, Pelosi, Lieu and other CA Dems have cornered that fuck in the WH. So, it's only natural you would start a thread that subtly and not so subtly will bash Dem leaders.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2019 3:12 AM

Couldn’t they just set up those porta potties up and down Market Street, Mission and the Haight? Wouldn’t that solve the problem?

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2019 3:16 AM

[quote]Couldn’t they just set up those porta potties up and down Market Street, Mission and the Haight? Wouldn’t that solve the problem?

Oddly, the arguments for and against are very similar to the ones for having sanctioned safe houses for shooting up and telling everyone to carry Narcan.

And before, some of you get your panties in a bunch, I am not equating pooping to being a heroine addict. The issue comes down to balancing the downside with the appearance of condoning or even supporting the underlying behaviors that make the solution necessary in the first place. Both solutions only address the symptoms to a much bigger problem without doing anything to address that problem. Thus, by mitigating the downsides, it allows people to ignore the "real" problem since the short-term and public "unpleasantness" is less an issue.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2019 3:22 AM

Good point R10.

Impeach the mayor.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2019 12:29 PM

The federal government won’t allow SF to have save injection sites. If they did, a lot of the ODing and pooping on streets would end

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2019 2:03 PM

The lack of sanitation there could lead to conditions that create a new plague.

The waste produces bacteria. Scavengers eat that crap. Flies. Rats. Birds.

Some of those scavengers carry fleas that suck blood and then carry the bacteria themselves.

And how many anti-biotics are still effective?

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2019 2:52 PM

R21 I agree with the sanitation concerns alone!

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2019 2:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2019 2:56 PM

I figured the next plague would start in San Fran sicko

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2019 3:15 PM

I’ll take poopless streets in Indianapolis, Louisville and Cincinnati any day... People in Indiana don’t shit in the streets. Yeah... Who is civilized now?

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2019 3:22 PM

This is partially our Govenor's fault as he even said he handled the homeless population poorly and that is why we are in the situation we are now. California and San Francisco have become too overly progressive as we don't want to offend anyone. This is a huge problem as we need rules and need to govern. Also, as we make CA more attractive to the homeless, we get daily imports from the rest of the states.

There needs to be a thoughtful approach at dealing with the homeless issue - not just throwing money at it to hope it goes away. It is starting to seem like the homeless have more rights than tax paying citizens. We can't move them and they are protected - but who wants or thinks it okay if they are sleeping in front of your house and taking a daily dump by your door. Tourism has taken a hit and like another has said we are going to start dealing with some 3rd world health issues/disease because of the conditions.

When we vote, we need to make sure we are truly educating ourselves as to who is the best person for the job. Don't blindly vote for all Democrats as we have a super majority in CA and that is not working at all

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2019 3:26 PM

The Tenderloin has spread outwards to most of the downtown. It's made the city unbearable. My last visit was 2015 and I'm never going back.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2019 3:32 PM

Sanitation 101

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2019 3:35 PM

I've taken San Francisco off my bucket list and added it to my shit list.

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2019 3:56 PM

Well that's what happens if you force a nomadic life on people in an urban setting. If they can't even get a semi-permanent habitation like shipping containers or at least wooden crates with at least some degree of sanitation, of course they will shit on the nearest corner and then move on.

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2019 3:59 PM

Homeless are a menace in LA too.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2019 4:02 PM

This thread is useless without photos.

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2019 4:05 PM

SF has literally gone down the shitter. A friend has an office near the Tenderloin and his stories are cringe inducing.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2019 4:05 PM

Yet so freaking expensive to live in that SHITHOLE.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2019 4:06 PM

It's not a money issue, r8. It's a management issue.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2019 4:07 PM

It's probably a good thing all the immigrants are going to be dumped there, they won't stand for all this living and shitting on the streets nonsense and will probably force the local governments into finally acting.

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2019 4:07 PM

We need to use that $$ for our homeless not for illegals.

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2019 4:09 PM

R26 is on point. I was just working a few days in SF last week again. Such a beautiful place being defiled. It’s not a “homeless” problem as much as a drug problem tied in with a mental health crisis. Injection sites isn’t the answer. How will that stop people from shitting in the street? We need to massively expand mental health facilities and force those arrested that are on drugs into treatment. People don’t get released without a post release/treatment plan. Drugs are a scourge on our society. We think tiny houses and homeless centers will solve this? Without mandatory treatment, it’s like treating cancer with cigarettes.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2019 4:15 PM

[quote]Injection sites isn’t the answer.

Neither is mismatching subjects and verbs.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2019 4:20 PM

R38, the opioid crisis has hit other areas even worse than SF yet it's SF that has the feces problem.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2019 4:21 PM

You can't use plastic straws in SF. So, hey, it balances out!

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2019 4:25 PM

r41, I'll bet there's a bigger fine for using a plastic straw than for shitting in the street in SF.

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2019 5:08 PM

San Diego has a problem too - remember with had the Hep A outbreak and Los Angeles has a typhus one. We are getting hit with 3rd world diseases!!!

Again, we are getting to a point that we are overly progressive and rules and laws are not enacted or followed because we don't want to hurt anyone. And yes to Cher and another poster point, we can't take on illegal immigrants too as we are hitting a point of no return.

And 2018 was the first year that Los Angles actually lost population (-16,000). Prior years were a gain of 30,000 plus. People, you start losing the tax payers and all the progressive measures you pass won't mean shit.

And, don't get me wrong, I'm an Independent - I wish there were more of us because you really need to educate yourself and not vote just down party line (especially in CA).

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2019 5:21 PM

Pretend it has nothing to do with homelessness and that it’s all political commentary and performance art. Enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 44April 20, 2019 5:25 PM

I like my artists to shit in cans and seal them up.

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2019 5:27 PM

I agree r43. Injection sites, clean needle exchanges, narcan everywhere... it’s enabling more drug use because it’s giving users, who do not want to change, easier access to drug hygiene and overdose solutions.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2019 5:36 PM

Human shit is no worse than dog shit. I can't see the problem.

100%

It's about mental illness AND drugs.

You can't force people to get treatment.

by Anonymousreply 50April 20, 2019 5:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 51April 20, 2019 5:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 53April 20, 2019 6:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 58April 20, 2019 7:18 PM

To R57's post, WOW - it should not be on the list for those very reasons. The prices are out of control, the City has some major problems and for a large amount of people, they are living beyond their means or just making it. There have been multiple articles and segments on teachers having to live in their cars (basically homeless).

Los Angeles and San Diego are on their way to SF status but that will be long off since both cities are so spread out. But, don't use that as an excuse, politicians do your job (and it they are not, vote them out even if they are a democrat).

by Anonymousreply 59April 20, 2019 7:20 PM

I’ve been a San Francisco resident for more than 30 years and travel around the city on foot, by car, and on public transportation. I also travel around the country with some frequency for my job and believe that I have a reasonable basis for comparison. While my opinion may be based on subjective data, think I can safely say that we’re a long way from drowning in fecal matter and, despite many problems (widening income gaps, extreme lack of affordable housing), my city has been good to me. Homelessness in San Francisco (and in other US cities) is a complex problem with deep economic, social, and psychological roots. Until we begin to systematically address these causes — as a city and as a nation — the problem will continue to grow.

R60 Good post, I have owned a home in SF for 15 years and love the time I spend here. Problems with inequality and homelessness? Absolutely, but in no way unique in this country, or in many others.

This is comparatively a very small city; the worst areas in town are directly adjacent to the concentrated downtown business/shopping/tourist core, which intensifies this hygiene hysteria. Anyone who thinks that SF has a worse homeless, drugs, and filth problem than LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, doesn't get out much.

What’s sad about this is that they have public toilets but they are often locked or poorly maintained.

by Anonymousreply 98April 22, 2019 1:09 PM

r96 I can't blame them. Homeless shelters in residential neighborhoods cause giant problems for the people living there.

by Anonymousreply 99April 22, 2019 1:14 PM

Let's be honest, would anyone really be sad if we killed all the homeless and druggies? How much value would be lost?

by Anonymousreply 100April 22, 2019 1:26 PM

[quote]Cruel and heartless San Francisco yuppie progressives protest new homeless shelters.

[quote]San Francisco’s renowned waterfront hosts joggers, admiring tourists and towering condos with impressive views. It could also become the site of a new homeless shelter for up to 200 people.

r96 - homelessness is a real problem that ought to be addressed from multiple vectors, not just housing.

At the same time, I don't quite understand why a homeless shelter has to be placed in one of the most expensive areas of the city. There are plenty of areas where the real estate would be cheaper and more affordable facilities could be built. Now, I can see the argument that more affordable real estate (i.e., poorer neighborhoods) shouldn't have to take the brunt. But, doesn't that also admit that it is a burden? At a basic level, it seems more like someone is trying to make a point, as well as punish "rich people," than anything else. While all real estate in the city is expensive, there are other locations which probably make more sense.

200 homeless people should not take priority of several thousand residents of those neighborhoods.

by Anonymousreply 113April 22, 2019 10:42 PM

Actually R100, I think a lot of people feel that way tho they would never admit it. I'm surprised people haven't organized Purge Nights.

by Anonymousreply 115April 23, 2019 3:23 AM

It's pathetic. There is major lack of leadership in SF on this issue. They don't have a plan and anytime low income or transitional housing is proposed, the residents shoot it down. The city is too lenient and the regular citizens are so sick of it but largely ignore it. There needs to be a 1 homeless 1 bed policy, and any extras need to be shipped to other counties where there is a bed for them. And the condition for getting a bed is to agree to treatment and job training. This policy of letting homelessness become a lifestyle or turning a blind eye is very bad.

A garrote and a firm, steady hand can solve even the most pesky of nuisances.

by Anonymousreply 121April 23, 2019 4:10 AM

They should gather all homeless, put them in a camp and find out what their problems are and triage accordingly, but do NOT let them leave without sharing all information a normal citizen would. Nor should they be allowed to go back to living on the streets. Any new homeless would also be gathered up and have to do the same paperwork and be processed. This touchy freely crap is not working.

by Anonymousreply 122April 23, 2019 4:15 AM

People, this is not rocket science. These people need facilities where they are cared for, not allowed to roam and get caught up in drugs, or scare the public. It's called mental hospitals, and it can be done better than before they were all shut down. This is NOT progress.

by Anonymousreply 123April 23, 2019 4:21 AM

Except the homeless in SF don't want to go to mental hospitals. They would rather live in parks and then forage for food because the city allows it. Until there is a crackdown and not tolerated it will only get worse.

May I suggest a form of Soylent Green. It solves the problem of homelessness and will provide food for the poor. Also, if properly packaged , including all the right key words such as ' Organic, Gluten free, Artisan ,Free Range, locally sourced ' it could be sold to the pretentious ' Foodies ' that seem to have nested in San Francisco. It's a win win situation.

R60 is exactly what's wrong with San Francisco and the Bay Area.

"Until we begin to systematically address these causes — as a city and as a nation — the problem will continue to grow."

I hear this shit (pun intended) literally all the time. From politicians, bleeding heart 20 year olds who don't know their ass from their mouth, in our neighborhood forum, community activists and IT IS ALL CODE for JUST KEEP DOING MORE OF THE SAME UNTIL SOMEONE ELSE FINDS A SOLUTION.

I too travel for work and pleasure a lot. A lot of cities have people who are willing to say "Get your shit together (pun intended again) if you want to live here with me."

San Francisco is filled with the same aging progressives who started its problems in the 70s and 80s are still clinging to their worldview from the time and rent-controlled apartments at rates from those decades. And techie millennials who don't give a shit (pun intended... see my drift) about anything but what's on the screen in front of them. Neither have a solution and I guarantee you neither demographic is personally doing jack SHIT to "systematically address" the regional, state, national, international, CRAP of which they complain.

Just came back from Mexico City and even that city was by far cleaner than San Francisco.

R155 Oakland has the same problems. Home Depot reached out to city government threatening to close two Oakland area locations because nearby homeless encampments are the source of crimes that affect their business and customers.

Of course the CRAPPY progressive response has been overwhelmingly against Home Depot. “If only Home Depot did more for the community...” with many flat out saying Home Depot should be throwing money at it. You know the jobs, service to customers, and taxes they pump into the community isn’t enough.

That’s the Progressive problem. SOMEONE ELSE should be doing more, giving more, etc. etc. because my goodness THESE PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS!!! Housing is a fundamental rights and we need to do more! SYSTEMATICALLY! REGIONALLY! NATIONALLY!

That shot of Mayor Breed is on Castro St. just by the Castro Theater. That historical strip of the City is now home to crime-ridden addicts, thanks to its progressive supervisors who are quick to pat themselves on the backs for their efforts to get people to ask “what MORE can SOMEONE ELSE do???”

Crappy policies - crappy results.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The California State Senate voted to ban schools and principals from suspending students for “willful defiance” of teachers, staff, and administrators.

The Senate approved SB 419 Monday by a vote of 30-8. It moves to the Assembly next.

A similar bill was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown last legislative session.

Under the new version (Senate Bill 419), students in grades 4-8 wouldn’t be suspended for disrupting school activities or willfully defying school authorities, including teachers and staff. The bill would also ban schools from suspending students in grades 9-12 for the same thing until January 1, 2025. The law would apply to both public and charter schools.

Existing law already prohibits schools from suspending children in grades K-3 for disrupting or willful defiance. Existing law also prevents schools from recommending the expulsion of students in all grades for disrupting or willful defiance.

I wish we didn't have to, considering the high local taxes we have to pay, but we can't see another option.

by Anonymousreply 199April 27, 2019 6:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 202April 27, 2019 8:24 AM

The reason local government was set up back in the 1800s was to improve sanitation.

Drains, waterworks, public toilets, refuse collection, all that boring good stuff was built and managed by local councils to protect residents from getting ill.

It surprises me that public authorities think that these essential requirements can be done away with.

How do you deal with a person with complex mental and drug use issues? How do you deal with hostile communities, who believe that it is another area's problem to deal with, knowing full well that if these people were 'shipped-off' anywhere, they would rapidly be replaced by more people coming in.

Homelessness is a complex issue. Public authorities are I'll equipped to deal with it.

by Anonymousreply 203April 27, 2019 9:01 AM

" Progressives solve problems." Then why do almost all of the big cities dominated by Democratic leadership have such terrible problems?

by Anonymousreply 204April 27, 2019 12:51 PM

You cannot create prosperity for all by placing byzantine rules and regulations on everything. Those cost money to enforce, and those costs get passed on to the consumer.

by Anonymousreply 205April 27, 2019 3:16 PM

r204 it's the result of everyone wanting to live in progressive cities. Even here on DL all the red cities suck! I have not heard one good thing about red cities or red states in terms of living. The demand plus regulation creates high prices.

As for the homeless problem that's a combination of people being priced out plus other cities busing their crazy bums to them.

by Anonymousreply 212April 27, 2019 4:49 PM

The sad thing is that this is the new normal. The homeless issue paralyzes politicians and all they’re willing to do is fund a few shelters, allow camps, and declare hands off policies. Homelessness and all of the problems it brings are with us permanently now, because there is no will to do what it takes to address it. The problem is hard wired into our system, where wealth is concentrated at the top and the bottom half of society divvies up meager incomes. There are a lot more losers than winners in such a system.

by Anonymousreply 222April 27, 2019 6:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 230April 27, 2019 6:40 PM

Don't give money to homeless people. They are liars. There is this man in a wheelchair every day in front of my supermarket but I've seen him get up and push his wheelchair to another location when the supermarket closes at night.

Don't be fooled by their sob stories. In the subway, you will always get someone who will say they need X amount bus fare to go somewhere or for a night in some hostel or whatever, all lies.

by Anonymousreply 231April 27, 2019 6:45 PM

High rents are just one consequence of our inflated cost of living from the politicians’ never-ending thirst for more money to fuel worthless programs through fees, taxes and money grabs. Like many American cities run by leftists, we’re building all kinds of museums and safe spaces, but the streets and the infrastructure are completely falling apart. If inly the homeless would poop in the potholes that are never fixed.

It's the heroin addicts who have the shitting problem. They become like animals, or zombies, on the drug. They wouldn't be able to stop themselves from crapping in the street even if SaniJohns were set up on every corner. I'm sure part of it is also a social contagion aspect: the addicts and homeless see each other shitting with abandon and suddenly everyone's doing it because it feels pointless to make an effort when no one else is. For years I picked up after my dog every single time he pooped even if it was in a place no one would ever step in it, but then we moved to an area where NO ONE picked up after their dogs and I eventually stopped doing it because it felt pointless. So there needs to be some kind of cultural shift in Frisco back to the mindset of "it's mortifying to crap in public." But mostly for any positive change there needs to be a resolution to the opioid epidemic.

No one in the country knows what to do to deal with the heroin crisis. No red state or blue state politicians have the answers. No one seems to have the resources. What's the solution? If you're cynical, you could make the case that Narcan shouldn't be distributed for ODs. Why spend thousands on meds to revive people a dozen times or more from the brink of death if you don't have the resources to do anything further for them to get them clean?

by Anonymousreply 242April 28, 2019 12:19 AM

It’s very true. Unless San Franciscans wake up and say no, it will only get worse. Every time I ride BART, there are people begging for money and people ignoring them. The shitting and begging on the street is disgusting and creating a culture of apathetic zombies.

by Anonymousreply 243April 28, 2019 12:23 AM

R242 Absolutely correct. SF, Seattle, Portland, they all have a huge ADDICTION problem that manifests itself in homelessness and all of the out of control antisocial behaviours that come with it. No one is sleeping under a bridge shooting dope because the rents are too high in their neighbourhood.

I’m curious where they are in NYC. Having lived here 30 years, they seem to have disappeared - even though there is clearly a large number according to the above. Maybe they get isolated in the Bronx or Far Rockaway because they can’t afford the subway and its gotten harder to jump the turnstiles.

I agree it’s a complicated NATIONAL problem caused by income inequality, poor getting poorer, absence of menial jobs, absence of hope leading to addiction and mental illness without mental health resources - but I I have to admit it’s nice not having to deal with them as much, especially the aggressive panhandling and dangerously psychotic ones. Unfortunately, the progressive cities are getting stuck with them because that’s where the money and will to help is. Not sure what happens to them in Texas.

Buck would never poop on the streets of San Francisco.

by Anonymousreply 249April 28, 2019 1:51 AM

Buck liked to be pooped on. While wearing your panties.

by Anonymousreply 250April 28, 2019 1:54 AM

Just round up the bums caught shitting or doing hard drugs in public and bus them red states like Wyoming or Utah.

not quite, dear. your moving parts are missing more than a few pieces

Why can't we just do what China does and send them to forced labor camps?

Somebody needs to create special diapers for hobos. Kind of like Depends but maybe a bit more rugged.

R245, yes, Hep C lives outside the body for days. Many IV drug addicts are positive for Hep C

by Anonymousreply 255April 28, 2019 5:12 AM

R248, you obviously don't use the subways or even live in the city because our great mayor has told nypd NOT to arrest turnstile jumpers, they are now merely stopped and given a ticket. I've seen it with my own eyes at union sq. Lots of crimes have now been decriminalized in NYC, they not gonna arrest you if you're found with pot for "personal use". that's just one example.

my cab driver said when it rains it washes that poop over the sidewalks, food that on the ground,, and into nooks and crannys that dogs peek. my dog got very ill from eating sumthin on street, bread I think, vet urine tested her and she had coke, meth, etc in her. glad she did not die. I now hate every god dam homelss fuk I see.

vet said its an epidemic and one should keep band round dogs mouth to avoid death from homelss shit contamination. or don't walk them on public streets.

by Anonymousreply 264April 28, 2019 9:40 AM

Perhaps supply them with Chinese takeaway containers. ...

by Anonymousreply 265April 28, 2019 10:30 AM

The homeless need to be given a room, detox and training to become city poop removal operatives.

That way the city can eradicate the problem and get the homeless off of the street.

It will only get worse under Newsom

by Anonymousreply 268April 28, 2019 3:45 PM

I remember back in the 70's I visited NYC in the summer. This was before people picked up the dog shit and the curbs and gutters were just filled with every color of the rainbow of shit and it had just rained and then sun came out and the stench was wretched. And then this sophisticated looking woman go into a cab and it drove off with this turd sticking out from the tire just going round and round. Quite the imagery.

by Anonymousreply 269April 28, 2019 3:52 PM

Governor Newsom has actually talked about a shared burden among other CA counties. So SF, LA and San Diego would not be burdened with getting all the homeless. But the problem is leniency and apathy. It’s growing out of control and people need to be rounded up and removed.

by Anonymousreply 270April 28, 2019 6:10 PM

The other California cities would revolt before taking in these dirty, criminal homeless people.

by Anonymousreply 271April 28, 2019 6:11 PM

On average each county in CA could take 120 people and SF wouldn’t have a homeless problem. But I agree the other counties won’t go for that. The issue in SF is that there is too much talk of compassion and not enough direct action.

by Anonymousreply 273April 28, 2019 6:34 PM

Seattle is a cesspool. Born and raised there, but am moving away in June!!! This kind of lunacy is coming to a town near you, so keep that in mind when you vote.

Many of us have started non-partisan, community organizations that look for evidence-based solutions to raise awareness regarding the "homeless" and addiction problem. We have started pushing back at City Hall when they claim they can't do anything about the problem - other than throwing more money at it (and of course, raising taxes).

Seattle leadership has turned a blind eye to increasing property crimes, violent crimes, drug use, drug dealing/selling, illegal parking, littering, loitering, camping in city parks and aggressive panhandling - while taxing more serious behavior with the soda-pop/sugary drink "Sugar tax" and banning plastic straws/bags. These "solutions" tell you all you need to know about where the priorities lie in Seattle, San Francisco and other similar cities.

If you are interested in politics, start watching coverage of the Seattle City Council races. Of seven districts, we have 5 districts without an incumbant running and 2 with an incumbant seeking reelection.

by Anonymousreply 274April 28, 2019 9:01 PM

While I think London Breed understands the various ways homeless need to be triaged, there is a lack of enforcement that make it immediately unacceptable for begging and harassing of citizens. It sounds like this is happening nationwide. At some point brawls will break out. I think they need to use the paddy wagon and start over. The failure of tech to also help to solve the problem is mysterious except they just want to make money.

by Anonymousreply 275April 29, 2019 1:19 AM

Yes, it's correct that the tech people just want to make money. They have no interest in the community. None.

by Anonymousreply 276April 29, 2019 1:36 AM

Not sure there are any easy answers - as shown in this thread. Except for the ever-ready simplistic right-wing argument “just arrest them” to prevent them from interfering with my life. I know it’s not easy living with - as I do on the streets outside my apartment - but this is the result of global capitalism creating hyper capitalist cities, the elimination of low skill, living-wage jobs, societal disconnection from technology and the disappearance of religion as a crutch. Very complex issues resulting in the simple reality of a homeless guy shitting on the street.

Remember in the 1980s, we said “lock ‘em up” was the solution. Then crime went away and we realized that abortion and social change corrected the problem. But we were left with laws that locked up people for years for pot.

by Anonymousreply 277April 29, 2019 4:20 AM

Immediate problems need immediate solutions. Shit in the streets leads to disease outbreaks.

special force is needed to take em to the nut house 4 good. alas, tourism still huge so the mayor etc say wtf.....

horrible how its increasing in all citys

by Anonymousreply 284April 29, 2019 9:58 PM

tax the rich/silicon valley fuks. and build big houses to put em in and keep em there. away from us

by Anonymousreply 285April 29, 2019 9:59 PM

Sending them to jail costs ten times more than building little houses for them to waste their lives in, but no one wants to take responsibility or use the limited real estate. They'd end up starting fires and burning each other to death.

by Anonymousreply 295May 1, 2019 12:51 AM

It's not just the danger of stepping in human poop piles on the sidewalk, it's the danger when the feces dry and become airborne.

Speaking of airborne, always close the lid of your toilet before flushing. If you don't, the "toilet plume" full of fecal particles can land travel up to 15 feet from the toilet and cover your toothbrush if it sits out.
