Do you remember actress Barbara Steele?
Early in her career at a young age she became known as the Horror Scream Queen, appearing in such gothic thrillers as Black Sunday, The Pit And The Pendulum, The Horrible Dr. Hichcock, Castle Of Blood, and The She Beast. She appeared in other movies as well but they were overshadowed by her horror genre.
Born in England on December 29, 1937. Now 81 years old.

I always thought she was stunning. She did a little indie movie a few years ago called The Butterfly Room with a lot of other scream queens like Heather Langenkamp and P.J. Soles. The movie itself is nothing special, but she was great in it. She still looks excellent.

Fun fact: As a kid, Tim Burton idolized her. You can see her in all of his casting and dating/marriage choices:
Winona Ryder Lena Gieseke (wife) Lisa Marie Smith (wife) Eva Green Geena Davis Helena Bonham-Carter (wife) Christina Ricci
She actually wanted to be known that she worked with Fellini, and not the schlocky Bava. She's a fascinating woman, well cultured with a very wicked sense of humor.
I quite love her as The Widow with DL's fave Mads Mikkelsen:

I actually recall watching Pit and the Pendulum as a small child and when it was over asking my mother what was an adulteress. The way she so quickly told me she didn't know and to never mind made it clear I had somehow sad a bad word and to immediately drop the subject.

She was very seXy. Her onetime husband was working on the screenplay for THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY ? 50 years ago & originally wanted her to play the role that Susannah York eventually did.

Steele was a striking presence on film but I don't know that she was really much of an actress. Hard to say for sure given the most of the crap she did. The only watchable horror films she did were BLACK SUNDAY and PIT AND THE PENDULUM.
She's cool in 8 1/2, but it's not one of the major roles. She's dubbed in German in YOUNG TORLESS (and the whipping scene posted above is not from that film).

She had a very small, uncredited role in the 1959 British film SAPPHIRE, a mystery that hinges on racial hatred. Steele has a quick scene in a cafe playing one of the title character's friends.

R55, not R54, but that's from Dark Shadows, 1990-91.
It was a mostly faithful adaptation of the original; the biggest change was a merge of Victoria and Maggie; Maggie was a supporting character who did not resemble Josette DuPres; that was Victoria; so when Victoria went into the past - 1795 - she encountered her lookalike.
I had mixed feelings on Steele. Grayson Hall is a tough act to follow. But she was good. Quite good.
I was in a coffee shop on Wilshire in LA within the last few years and I swear Barbara Steele was sitting there a few tables over. We smiled at each other. I wish I'd said something.

r53 and r57, I haven't seen Silent Scream in years. It was a pretty good slasher film. Yvonne DeCarlo played Barbara Steele's mother.
