How Rebecca Schaeffer's Horrific Murder Led to the Nation's First Anti-Stalking Law
writer/director Brad Silberling based his movie "Moonlight Mile" on the death of Rebecca Schaeffer, as he was her boyfriend at the time of her death.

Stalkers of famous people. Karen Carpenter had a stalker who found out where she lived and knew where her upstairs bedroom was. He would come to her home and scream out her name looking up at her window. The police had to deal with him.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 13, 2019 1:17 AM |
Did Susan Day kill her?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 13, 2019 1:24 AM |
Or maybe even Susan Dey?

Canadian singer Anne Murray also had a stalker. The man believed that she was sending messages to him through her songs. In her memoir she stated that he would show up on her doorstep and even came to her father's funeral. He followed her around for years and she spent close to half a million dollars taking him to court, body guards, and protecting herself from him in general. Finally he simply lost interest in her and moved on to something else. Stalkers can be a big problem for celebrities and sometimes even dangerous.

Kim Carnes performed the title song to "My Sister Sam". Schaeffer was in an overlooked quite funny film called "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills".

[QUOTE]Schaeffer was in an overlooked quite funny film called "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills".
Not overlooked by her stalker. Her sex scene in that film is, according to the 20/20 special, what drove him over the edge to go kill her.

Isn’t he the same nut that flew to London trying to kill Sheena Easton? Gavin Debecker was hired for security detail.

Prior to Schaeffer, Robert Bardo stalked Samantha Smith, the little girl who created a sensation when she wrote a letter to Reagan and the Soviet leader requesting peace. Sadly, she died in a plane crash and he moved on.

There’s a great documentary about two stalkers who are obsessed with the singer Tiffany, called “I Think We’re Alone Now”.
It’s scarier than any horror movie.
One of her obsessive “fans” is a batshit MtT.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 3, 2019 10:08 PM |
Someone stalked Tiffany?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 3, 2019 10:24 PM |
Two people, apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 3, 2019 10:30 PM |
I'm surprised there hasn't been another murder considering social media allows these nuts to know what their obsessions are doing 24/7.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 3, 2019 10:32 PM |
Frankly, I don't get this desire some people have to worship other human beings. I lost a friend a few years back because he couldn't understand why I didn't worship any Broadway diva nor cared to stage-door. the stars. This guy lived for that and would get so excited after getting something signed or just getting to have a word with a s stage star. 'm not trying to be snobby 'cause I do appreciate an actor's or singer's talent. But I have no desire to see them beyond the film/concert/show.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 3, 2019 10:35 PM |
When a celebrity has a stalker like this that’s when you need a Ray Donovan. Just have the stalker murdered and the body disposed of. The end because these nuts will never stop.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 3, 2019 10:37 PM |
A bit off topic, but related: Bjork had a stalker years ago, who tried to send her a letter bomb. The authorities found out soon after the man had killed himself, and it was intercepted.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 3, 2019 10:41 PM |
That’s a shame, r3. That the 💣 was intercepted.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 3, 2019 10:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 3, 2019 10:50 PM |
I hate Bjork! She’s do unnecessary to the race!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 3, 2019 10:51 PM |
R53 I remember that! It happened around the fall of 1996. The guy even kept a vlog. He would talk to his camcorder and keep a daily log. He even discussed his love for Bjork and his disgust for her dating some black guy at the time. The guy was Latino of some sort and had issues with black men, apparently. I wonder if the videos are on YouTube?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 3, 2019 11:02 PM |
R52, that was a plot on Ray Donovan, early on, right? He beat the hell out of the actress’s stalker?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 3, 2019 11:15 PM |
My Sister Sam was a shit show but for some reason was a BIG hit for it's first season. Then it was put up against a huge hit (was it the Cosby Show? Too lazy to look it up) and was cancelled. It did not last THAT long. It was actually long after the show was over that Schaeffer was murdered, not during the show's run.
Rebecca did have talent. And who knows what might have happened to her career. She was a bit more than a flash in the pan or a one-hit-wonder. She was getting ready to audition for Francis Ford Coppolla for the third Godfather movie. She was home waiting on a copy of the script to be delivered to her that fateful day. The thing is, almost ALL of the 80's sitcoms were total shit with actors who mostly disappeared after their shows got canned. So My Sister Sam really didn't give Rebecca much chance to show what she was capable of.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 3, 2019 11:16 PM |
She was much more popular in death than in life.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 3, 2019 11:20 PM |
R58
He did one even better he dyed in blue so he couldn’t hide in the shadows anymore. But it was kinda of a fucked up storyline because the same actress ended up hooking up with a guy who beat the shit out of her and eventually kills her (not the stalker though he sees it all unfold).

My Sister Sam was sandwiched in between Kate and Allie and Newhart the first season. That's why it was a hit. Then they moved it to Saturday opposite The Facts. of Life and that was it for the show. I thought Rebecca was great as the kid sister, who knows how far she would have gone.

I live in LA - my birthday is on July 18 - the day she died. My good friend was working at George Schlatter productions then. The office was a converted house a few doors down from Rebecca Schaeffer's apartment. While I was on the phone with my friend making b- day plans you could hear sirens BLARING in the background - my friend said something was going on down the street - the guys in her office ran down the street to see what was going on. - It was eerie that we didn't know what we were hearing! .......Didn't Pam Dawber's mouth look odd?

The coincidence of that time slot move is that Jenny O'Hara, the first of many who would end up getting fired from [italic]Facts[/italic] all the way back in 1979, now had a role on [italic]My Sister Sam[/italic]. They both ended in 1988. Making it even more coincidental is that Scott Bryce was now on the older show as Jo's boyfriend and eventual husband, and O'Hara joined Bryce in the cast of [italic]As The World Turns[/italic] in the 1990s right around the time they changed their theme song.
The documentary interviewed her but not David Naughton, the male lead from [italic]Sam[/italic].
