I never understand people like Liz Warren and Cenk Uygur who went from Republican to as far to the left on the Democrat side as possible

I used to be a republican too (my parents were), until GWB was elected. I was 13 yrs old when Reagan was elected and wasn't interested enough in politics throughout Clinton's presidency. I didn't vote during his terms. But when I saw how fucking insane the republicans were during the monica lewinsky scandal, I woke up and realized I wasn't a republican and that they really don't care about anyone but the upper 5% of this country

To explain my parents being republican, welfare was out of control in the 1970's. There were generations of families that had never worked and didn't ever plan to work. They were mostly minorities. That's back when white people still had a work ethic. Now they don't and they are the worst abusers of welfare and other government programs. Their spawn have ruined the country. If you weren't alive in the 1970's, you really can't speak to this matter. Republicans back in the 20th century were nothing like they are now. Now, every single one of them is disgusting and immoral. And I know there are "decent" people who are still republican and hate trump, but they have to have a special kind of stupidity to still be republicans. You don't have to become a democrat, but to still be a member of the republican party, what they have become and everything they stand for, means there is something wrong with you mentally or you are just a spineless piece of shit who is afraid to be an Independent voter. That's almost worse than being a republican. If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing. That makes you a fucking loser. Hitler happened because of people like this. He and his atrocities wouldn't have been possible without people idly standing by and doing/saying nothing

Um, maybe OP hasn't seen her extensive current policy proposals on the wealth tax, housing, education, etc. etc.? All of them are solidly grounded and none of them is remotely conservative. She has written entire books backing up her policy positions, and she's pushed through her ideas (like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) to get them passed into law. I couldn't care less how she was voting 30 years ago.

I currently support her over any of the other Democratic candidates.

Is the intelligence level here very low, or is it that the dumbest people post more frequently? What's wrong with someone coming to understand the error of their ways and ideas? Well it's a good thing the decades old Elizabeth no longer exists and isn't running for president.

I already strongly support her, but this was an interesting read.

She was a real Reagan, free-market Republican academic who thought most bankruptcies were gaming the system. Then she explored the actual filers across the country and couldn't ignore the data that came back. She learned that people were barely hanging on due to stagnant wages, under insurance, and a host of real blue-collar economic issues that led to filing bankruptcy. She also realized the Republicans held no good answer and were only interested in bringing as many workers down as possible while increasing corporate profits.

I will vote for any Dem who wins, but I want Warren. Read up on her a little if you haven't. Her combination of intelligence, sincerity, outreach, fight, and WYSIWYG won me over. I am really glad we have a whole rainbow of people running for the nomination.

R20 you're right. And someone who genuinely chooses to change is particularly admirable. She's the real deal. However, I don't think she'd have a strong chance against trump (a woman and too left). I also know some liberals who, mystifyingly, don't care for her, in contrast to most other candidates.

People grow and change. Warren, Harris, Mayor Pete are people who seem to frighten the republicans. Heck, Swalwells been getting death threats. And the kind-hearted Jay Inslee, his twitter feed is filled with 4chan trolls.

All of these people are far more qualified than the failed reality tv host in the WH.

I took the same journey, and switched about the same time. I was a die hard Reagan Republican from 1980 until 2003. So, it took me longer. I thought the party could be saved, but it can't. I can understand her giving up in 1996. That's when it really hit the fan with both the "Contract with America", the vehement anti-gay policies and the unrelenting hostility towards African Americans really started.

Rush Limbaugh really drove home what they cared about two years later with his "He Lies Under Oath" mantra and it never started. It was the rise of the McLuhan's the Medium is the Message, and the Medium became Government. Now Fox is Government. Fox News which is owned by an Australian family that bought its citizenship with a "donation" to the GOP after a private meeting with Reagan. I don't really have a huge problem with someone her age identifying as Republican, not when the Repub she grew up with was Eisenhower. He was criticized for being beholden to millionaires, but compared to Repubs from Nixon to the current day, he was practically a Democrat.

She has all the appeal of mayonnaise on white bread. You actually need some personality to win a national election. She's fine where she is and needs to stay put.

If Warren is really a five-civilized-tribe descendant as she claims, her ancestors must have grabbed onto white privilege the moment they started passing as caucasian. “Pow Wow Chow?” Warren IS whiter-than-white, and I would not be surprised if her “Cherokee” family aligned with confederates and held slaves at one time.

I think she'd be a good Pres but I don't think she can beat Trump. The issue of whether a candidate would be a good Pres is moot unless the candidate can win the general election.

So vote for Biden because he can win, plus a young VP who'd make a good Pres (Pete) whenever he succeeds Biden. Warren's too old for that VP role and should stay in the Senate where she can do some good.

Warren's problem is that she converted to the party of people who will get you fired for wearing a feathered headdress to a costume party. It's quite a comedown for Harvard's former First Native American Professor of Law to suddenly have to apologize for eating corn muffins and tortillas.
