Who is Nipsey Hussle

I never heard of the guy before he was killed. Now his funeral is streaming on th NY Times. Who the hell was he?

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 13004/14/2019

apparently the 2nd coming of christ. i, as well, never heard of this guy but they sure are making a huge bfd about him....whatevs.

I keep thinking it says, Nipsey RUSSELL!

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 204/11/2019

No idea.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 304/11/2019

Who knows? Best thing for him really. His therapy was going nowhere.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 404/11/2019

If Jussy Smollett had married him, his name would have been Jussy Hussle.

From what I gather, the Hussle fellow was able to cure cancer, give all of his wealth to the poor little childrens of the ghetto, and promote World Peace. They are thinking of renaming the city of Compton "Husslewood." Oh, what a loss!

Other than that, I never heard of him. He owned a clothing store, but I think he was also a rappist.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 804/11/2019

I've never heard of him, but he got shot!

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 904/11/2019

Never heard of him until he was shot to death outside his clothing store in South LA. Since then he has been in the media throughout the day every day. Apparently he is a rap "star" who was a Crips gang member who reformed his ways? I have no idea. Total overkill with the media coverage. And the most ridiculous "name" I've ever heard.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 1004/11/2019

[quote]And the most ridiculous "name" I've ever heard.

Well, SECOND most ridiculous name, the first being "Childish Gambino," who my partner once referred to in all seriousness as "Churlish Bambino," which I think is even funnier.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 1504/11/2019

This could be a reminder of the cultural divides in the United States. I read that Obama sent condolences, which to my knowledge he didn't do for XXXTentacion, so Nipsey Hussle must have been known for community philanthropy and good works. I didn't know about him until the news said he'd been shot, but I'm middle-aged, white and not American.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 1604/11/2019

[R16].....at least you admit it,alot of posters in this thread mirror you and are making jokes about a senseless death.I guess anything not to discuss how the Nazi white boy from Louisana was burning down black churches because of Trump propaganda. Some rednecks are a mess(not you R16)

I’ve been known to enjoy a lil nipsey after a tough day at the office

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 1904/11/2019

He was apparently very popular in the urban and black community, was well-known in LA and Central/South Central LA for philanthropy and community work for several years, hence the respect and large funeral. He also - from my limited knowledge - had a homophobic and openly misogynistic attitude in presentation and lyrics, although to be fair that's not uncommon (still) in the rap community.

I am also white/suburban so take my op with a grain of salt.

A rappist is one who sings rap tunes, isn't it? That's what I meant. I've never heard that Lil Nipsey was a rapist. Other than the gang involvement stuff early on, and some of the questionable rap tunes, he seems to have been quite a nice fellow. His homies spoke very highly of him.

Now, a 25 mile funeral procession route through South LA so the neighborhoods can say good-bye:

@lynneedenise

Black folks on motorcycles and four wheelers following close behind and circling Nipsey’s car. It’s like Crenshaw cruising on a 1990s Sunday night.

About the service:

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 3304/11/2019

MAJOR DELAY: Nipsey Hussle’s funeral procession is at a standstill, stuck in gridlock in South LA as it approaches the rapper’s murder site

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 4304/11/2019

You can’t make this shit up.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 4404/11/2019

He did the rap verse for "The Sexy Getting Ready Song" on the first episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 4504/11/2019

Chris Darden represents the killer, Eric Holder. Darden is the former LA District Attorney who unsuccessfully tried the O.J. Simpson murder case.

Nipsey's fans are wondering who is paying for Darden's very hefty legal bills.

Looking back at the surveillance video of Nipsey's murder, it's clear that the killer wanted to make sure the rapper was dead. It was overkill.

Exactly what you would expect to see in a murder-for-hire hit.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 5904/11/2019

Man, DL is OLD. I mean, I’m not a spring chicken, but I know he he was.

The guy had turned his life around, and was actively contributing for the betterment of his community. And then some asshole decided to fire shots, and from what I understand, for no good reason at all, whatsoever.

There wasn’t any street beef, no revenge or avenging of someone else. Just a senseless murder by a coward.

I understand why people who come up, move out of their neighborhoods. Any asshole can come along and end it for you in a matter of seconds.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 6704/11/2019

@LAPDHQ

Due to the delay of the Nipsey Hussle Memorial, the procession has been slowly moving through South LA, behind schedule. Large crowds have gathered at the Marathon Store and at the Angelus Funeral Home.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 6804/11/2019

Where are they burying him? In the parking lot of his store?

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 6904/11/2019

@CHellerTVNews

Shooting confirmed. 3 victims down, just not anywhere near Nipsey's situation.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 7604/11/2019

I had never heard of him until the media coverage following his assassination. He, seemingly, though, had a somewhat moderate if not blazing career. He was successful enough, at least, to move out of his ghetto neighborhood and into a safer, gated community, but chose to stay and help the are he grew up in. That, I think, is why so much is being made of his being killed. It shows the danger of rap artists staying in their old 'hood for either sentimental or street cred reasons. At some point, you are from but not of the place you grew up. It is unfortunate that he was trying to help people and invested in his neighborhood, but that is why he is getting so much coverage. The death of a rap star who had retained his gangster ways wouldn't be lauded the way Nipsey is.

And, by the way, Childish Gambino is a name that Glover got when playing one of those stupid "name generators." He liked it, and it stuck.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 7704/11/2019

I just generated my rap name. It's Quik EG Flash.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 7804/11/2019

He was yet another ugly, spazzy rapper.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 7904/11/2019

Wonder what the motive was. The guy who murdered him apparently shook his hand, shot him, then kicked him in the head when he was down. Sounds gang banging to me. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8004/11/2019

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8104/11/2019

@CHellerTVNews

LAPD tells me there were actually 4 gunshot victims.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8204/11/2019

He was planning to meet with the LAPD to discuss curtailing gang activity. His former gang friends might not have liked this.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8304/11/2019

did he achieve any success as a rapper??

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8404/11/2019

Another inspirational criminal/rapper shot. Such an unpredictable tragedy. What is everyone so surprised this happens. This is how the gangs are. It’s not tragic, it’s the game they chose. (or racism made them do it, take your choice).

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8504/11/2019

His album was nominated for a Grammy.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8604/11/2019

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 8904/11/2019

Why is he getting similar levels of coverage as Aretha, Whitney, MJ??

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9004/11/2019

He is the only significant rap artist to come out of the West Coast since the Death Row days of Snoop, 2Pac, Dr Dre, and NWA in the 1990s. West Coast rap lost favor to other regions (particularly Atlanta and Southern rap/trap) and significantly declined since the 90s due its reputation for being too gang oriented and violent. Don't forget two of rap's heroes died while on the West Coast-Biggie Smalls and 2Pac Shakur died in Vegas. Both killed by LA gang members. LA became a place most rappers tried to avoid due to the gang politics. Even Cardi B had to walk back her Bloods talk due to death threats in LA

Nipsey was trying to starting a revival of West Coast rap and LA's reputation this time by producing rap songs with a more conscious twist. That's why people are so affected because he was a pacifist trying to bring change to rap and South Central L.A. through activism and rap lyrics.

He was promoting gang unity and peace. He had a meeting with the LAPD the day after he died to discuss reconciliation between Bloods and Crips. Some conspiracy theorists believe the LAPD sent the shooter because they don't want gang unity.

Much of this gang shit starts in the prisons. California has a problem with overcrowded prisons.

He was known for his philanthropy more than any hit songs-he was more of an underground rapper

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9104/11/2019

[quote] Days of Our Lives

Ah. DOOL.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9204/11/2019

Frankly, the live coverage is probably happening because the news people are hoping to get live footage of rioting. If it doesn't happen, the LA news stations can claim they were just trying to show their respect for a good man and the black community.

Sadly, the odds of rioting or attacks on police are decent, even though the police are blameless in this. By all accounts the shooting was related to gangs and gang culture, but nobody has the nerve to openly protest against the gangs. Awful as they are, the LAPD are an easier target.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9304/11/2019

Nipsey Hussle also had an East African father from Eritrea, a country that split from the former Ethiopian empire of Haile Selassie. Some Rastafarians (which Snoop apparently is one of now) looked to Nipsey as some kind of Selassie or Bob Marley -type figure due to his conscious lyrics and African roots.

Over a few weeks, I think he will be forgotten and the it will be back to business as usual in South Central LA.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9404/11/2019

It's weird that LA claims 2Pac as one of their own hometown heroes due to the song California Love.

2Pac is from the East Coast-born in Harlem and raised in Baltimore where he was fuck buddies or friends with Jada Pinkett.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9504/11/2019

@ABC7Veronica

The end of the #NipseyHussle’s procession. Big crowd ended up at Angelus Funeral Home.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9604/11/2019

R80, motive was Nipsey was planning to meet with police (LAPD) the next day to discuss gang unity. That's seen as snitching.

Some of his homies may not have liked that. The gangs make drug money through rivaling each other/turf wars. Reconciliation would hurt their bottom line. He had to be killed. In the gangs or the mob, working with police or snitching gets you killed. Of course Nipsey got his wig pushed back. Working with police can only be done if you flee like hell or get into a witness protection program

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9704/11/2019

Homegoing...

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9804/11/2019

Maybe he was trying to be Nipsey Russell for the 'aughts'.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 9904/11/2019

I love how Nipseys immigrant father asked for a stop to all gang violence in poor English during his eulogy and literally seconds after Snoop Dogg comes strutting on stage in all blue and rhymes that Nip was a good crip to cheers.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 10004/11/2019

And why are Farrakhan and Stevie Wonder outliving every fucking body and always at every black funeral?

The only missing person was Sharpton!

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 10104/11/2019

He was open about why he had joined a gang, and was doing what he could to create employment and educational opportunities in an effort to help keep others from going/continuing down that path.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 10204/11/2019

His parents seemed like very good people with lots of humility . Why did their son go down a path of hanging with low life gangbangers?

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 10304/11/2019

He was a low life hoodlum, complete garbage. No great loss or actually NO loss at all!

Nipsey, in retrospect, don't you think joining the Rolling Sissies Crips really hurt your television career?"

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 10704/11/2019

He's now a rap saint.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 11804/12/2019

I'm surprised he was buried in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills -- the hometown burial grounds for South LA are Inglewood Cemetery and Rosedale Cemetery down near Gardena.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 11904/13/2019

Heard so much about him this week I thought I’d go find some music assuming it would be somehow different and “smarter”. First title I see on iTunes “Bitches Ain’t Shit” 🙄 there’s so many black men and women doing work to better their communities. From sports coaches and teachers to firefighters and tutors and this is who they want to canonize?

R124 Right.

Many of the celebrities who attended the funeral have admitted to never meeting the man. The way he has blown up is crazy, I read that his album only had a few thousand streams in March and 60,000 total sales. Now his music is on the charts and it’s the same bitches, hoes and money stuff as all the other rappers. He had a clothing shop with his brother and another partner, a ball cap with a dollar sign is $200!! Allegedly businesses set up with dirty money. He buried 250,000 in the backyard and dug it up damp and unusable. The treasury replaces such notes unless it’s dirty money.

It is entertaining to search his name and see all the deluded people who are saying this man was Bill Gates rich and so smart he surely had trust funds and life insurance for his kids. Some even think his chains can be sold to keep his kids in luxury forever. Lol. Rapper Jermaine Dupri said Nipsey was Jesus! Ah yes Jesus came back to Earth and left us all some words to live by “Look, I like bitches, that's lightskinned-ed With a whole a lot of ass, and get right with it Off a pill, I can probably make her like bitches Lick lick it, like a lolli till it's like liquid These hoochies always talking bout, where my dick is” AMEN

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Local civil rights activists are calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to demand the release of a man who was shot alongside slain rapper Nipsey Hussle.

Kerry Lathan was one of two men wounded during the shooting. He'd just been released after serving 20 years in prison and was reportedly arrested afterward.

Lathan is now accused of violating the terms of his parole by associating with a known gang member.

"That's a slap in the face to his family and our grieving community," said Najee Ali, director of Project Islamic Hope. "Nipsey Hussle was a hero, a role model, a justification fighter, a successful business person and entrepreneur who gave everything he could to help people in this community. That help included trying to help his friend Lathan. We can't continue to have this cycle of criminal justice system that penalizes people who need help."

Ali said Hussle wanted to help Lathan with some clothes.

by Concerned 50 something white guyreply 12704/14/2019

When is there going to be a GoFundMe account set up, like for My Dough Burrous after her husband, Chris, got fisted to death in Glendale? It's only right that Nippy's family gets the same kind of pity benefits as other celebrities' wives, whores and childrens.

There was one set up by Reggie Bush but after a lot of backlash it was taken down. Seems his fans believe he was a multi millionaire and it was disrespectful of Reggie to emasculate him by suggesting he hadn’t provided for his kids.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Don't you just LOVE clicking on these things on every single site you visit? I know we do! You can thank the EU parliament for making everyone in the world click on these pointless things while changing absolutely nothing. If you are interested you can take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT and we'll set a dreaded cookie to make it go away. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
