When did vulgarians like these start becoming popular to listen to and why?
Shock jocks like Howard Stern and Opie & Anthony

Early '80s, first Stern and then the Greaseman, Doug Tracht.

The beginning of trashy, boorish culture being normalized.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 8, 2019 5:12 PM |
Don't forget Don Imus.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 8, 2019 5:18 PM |
Opie and Anthony were always asshats. Someone posted a thread about when they interviewed Cindy Williams so that they could make fun of her career. Pretty foul stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 8, 2019 5:21 PM |
Howard Stern could occasionally be good.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 8, 2019 5:49 PM |
Shameful, shameful.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 8, 2019 5:53 PM |
White men with small penises made them popular.

Alan Berg was one of the first outspoken talk radio personalities, starting in the 1970s. He wasn't exactly a shock jock with respect to vulgarities, but he was an aggressive communicator on the air. He worked at KOA out of Denver when he was targeted by white nationalists and shot and killed outside of his home.

No mention of Fezzie, OP?
We're ride-or-die for the Big Cat. He's basically a DLer.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 8, 2019 6:32 PM |
Opie is a TERF and he used to be handsome so we like him.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 10, 2019 11:44 AM |
Love Howard!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 10, 2019 12:35 PM |
Howard's show is a hate crime against women disguised as entertainment. That's why it became popular. Very ironic, since Howard is starting to look like a MTF.

His Miss America book written during his crossdressing phase actually offered a supposed cure for homosexuality: don't think about it and it will go away. Nope, it doesn't work that way. Then he started pushing trannies and had Buck Angel, a lesbian who had her breasts cut off and started calling herself a man to appease her homophobic father, ride a sybian.

I still can't listen to any part of the Dana Plato interview the day before she died without chills going down my spine. The misogyny and lesbophobia from callers was so off-the-charts, it might as well have been the fucking 700 Club. The company that made her show, [italic]Diff'rent Strokes[/italic], also made [italic]Married With Children[/italic], for what it's worth. At least on that show the wives always undermined their husbands' MRA agenda.

R9 Rude and ruder!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 10, 2019 2:17 PM |
R9 the Black Earl Douglas bits as some of the best worst Bits in radio history
Earl’s lazy belligerent antisocial incompetence was astounding. His every response to anything would consistently be, “NO, *gibberish*, *sigh*”. He was special.

Did my gay ol’ Grampa start this thread?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 10, 2019 2:52 PM |
What am I, chopped liver?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 10, 2019 2:55 PM |
Glenn Beck is the flip side of Howard Stern: the inevitable reaction to increased permissiveness.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 10, 2019 3:00 PM |
I remember how people pushed back against Stern. It was one of the earlier examples of “freedom of speech” vs “political correctness”. In some ways, it was the opening of the floodgates that resulted in a President who is basically a shock jock - and an electorate who only pays attention to people who shock them. Not progress in retrospect - but seemingly unavoidable.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 10, 2019 3:02 PM |
They are popular because the OP clutches her pearls so hard.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 10, 2019 5:56 PM |
Cumia just had to hit TMZ back and tell them that reports of his death were greatly exaggerated hahahah
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 10, 2019 5:59 PM |
OP clearly just doesn’t have the NIGHTIME ATTITUDE!!🔥🎶🎶🤘🚨🚨‼️📢📢📢

Freezepeach = white gentile male hetero-perverts can say whatever they want but anyone who calls them out on their bullshit is vilified, harassed, peer pressured into "retracting" true statements, censored, or thrown in jail.

I've heard much about the Dana Plato interview and how awful it is but I've never listened to it. Was Plato strung out at the time?

Big Steve Dahl and Garry Meier fan when they were a team (1979 - 1993) in the Chicago-area market.
Probably not as "shocking" as Stern but made headlines just the same.
You may remember them as the guys who did Disco Demolition in July of 1979.

Don and Mike
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 11, 2019 12:43 PM |
Howard Stern invented the “shock jock” genre. Turned out that people loved it.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 11, 2019 12:48 PM |
Is Howard Stern Jewish?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 11, 2019 1:30 PM |
^^ Yes.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 11, 2019 2:02 PM |
A Jew? I knew it!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 11, 2019 2:45 PM |
Howard Stern made his money being as vulgar as possible and now pretends that he didn't. He can act all high and mighty and "evolved" after having spent decades attacking people and influencing a lot of people to behave in that way.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 11, 2019 2:48 PM |
I'll never forgive him for mocking Selena after she was murdered.

Country music sucks. All it does is take airtime away from shock DJs whose cruelty and profanity amuse us all.

R27 I loved Don and Mike I know am a daily listener to Mike O’Meara’s podcast Check it out! TMOS
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 12, 2019 2:43 PM |
Oops I NOW not Know:( I think that Howard has evolved a lot and even made up with Rosie. When I lived in NYC and was driving a lot, I listened to Howard, Ron/Fez and also Don and Mike. Local Radio is gone for good I fear and I’m glad that I grew up when I did.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 12, 2019 7:56 PM |
OP vulgarians is right.
Not a one of those mooks is PFG.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 12, 2019 8:00 PM |
Disgusting people, the radio personalities and their listeners. Now they spend their time whining about snowflakes and how they can't be as gross as before.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 12, 2019 8:06 PM |
R37 "weeeiiiird neewws" lol I fuckin love Scorch. He has no content and he's so EXCITED.

Who interviewed Plato before her death? Stern has a book out in a week ..and he is doing lots of mainstream PR.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 14, 2019 2:41 AM |
It’s important to note that they were regional assholes (limited to a certain radio market) until the mid 80s. I don’t think national syndication happened before then. Seems like something changed during the Regan administration. I remember Stern coming on the air in Philly at WYSP in the mid to late 80s competing against John DiBella’s morning show. It was all out war.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 14, 2019 3:03 AM |
Howard has evolved but he's still a pervert. I like his interviews usually and also The News with Robin. I hate his staff. I hate when he has them on the air. Like listening to teenagers fight. Boring.

She was in good spirits and insisted she was turning her life around, but the callers harassed her and called her anti-gay slurs over some gay-for-pay softcore porn movie she made because she really did need the money. Then some lesbian called her and said for her to come out — except she wasn't a lesbian, but apparently had a family friend who was and was taking advantage of her and her son financially — and it was just a clusterfuck all around. This was less than a year after the murder of Matthew Shepard got national attention, which itself was 18 months after Ellen DeGeneres' "Yep I'm Gay" TIME Magazine cover.
