Someone on the previous thread was wondering about what connections Barr might have that would make Trump comfortable with him, given his previous connections to the Bush family. Turns out that was a smart thing to wonder about. Here you go...

by Anonymousreply 6April 6, 2019 6:41 AM

today was an annoyingly slow day but I guess it's good for a change for a story to linger. The more Barr gets tagged with being Trump's unethical defender, the better

by Anonymousreply 7April 6, 2019 6:47 AM

OP - Thank you for that funny graphic instead of one of those vomit-inducing pictures of Trump we had to look at every time we hit on the thread.

Little things mean a lot!

by Anonymousreply 8April 6, 2019 7:35 AM

Brilliant title.

by Anonymousreply 9April 6, 2019 10:41 AM

This is the most corrupt administration in our history. Not a single cabinet member is clean. They're all slime. I hope they all go down. Barr, Mnuchin, De Vos, Carson, Ross, and the rest.

by Anonymousreply 10April 6, 2019 12:02 PM

Herman Cain is a friend of mine. We trade stories about pussy-grabbing 'n shit.

by Anonymousreply 11April 6, 2019 12:19 PM

I guess Seth is on Bill Maher, what he is reporting is explosive. I hope Rachel or someone pick it up.

by Anonymousreply 12April 6, 2019 1:38 PM

When Rick Perry may be the most competent and ethical cabinet member of the bunch, that's quite dismal.

by Anonymousreply 13April 6, 2019 1:48 PM

Details, R12?

by Anonymousreply 14April 6, 2019 1:54 PM

Good title, OP. But expect Miz Lindzey will be featured again. She craves attention, and will do things to become the most noticed again. It's the weekend, & menz are waiting.

by Anonymousreply 15April 6, 2019 1:55 PM

That tax return is obviously fake. Trump would have claimed a refund of at least a few million.

The media is focusing, day after day, all day, on Joe Biden's touchy-feelie history as a politician. It's old news.

Meanwhile, scandalous Herman Cain, is being resurrected with a nomination to the Federal Reserve Board.

What about some coverage of other news:. Venezuela, UK-EU, fixing immigration issues, trade controversy, Middle East, environmental matters, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 18April 6, 2019 2:20 PM

R18 Agreed! They aren't covering Dump's flip flops on closing the border, funding the wall and his inhumane immigration policies. What about the trade war with Gina and sanctions with Russher?

by Anonymousreply 26April 6, 2019 4:53 PM

LOL what a pathetic showing from MAGA.

Per the article:
[italic]The event, whose location was leaked to TMZ, drew a tiny crowd, with four flag-clad supporters in MAGA hats[/italic]

So only 170 guest + 4 MAGA supporters in sidewalk. How embarrassing for the president.

by Anonymousreply 27April 6, 2019 5:04 PM

But wait! This is the best part:
[italic]Shawn Steel told the Washington Post that during his speech [bold]Trump talked at length about winning California during the 2020 election[/bold][/italic].

People I know, even those who are deplorables, are growing bored and alarmed with Pres Bone Spurs' antics. He only has the great economy he inherited and even that he is fucking up,

Did anyone see the shit Roger Stone posted about Barbara Bush? He is she is dead and he is President so who won? It is laughable to see how even your average GOPer (and Stone is not that) debase themselves for Pres Bone Spurs. They're all a bunch of demons.

by Anonymousreply 43April 6, 2019 8:09 PM

How many times are we going to hear the trolls say "ya well his supporters I know are turning against him". Funny that his poll numbers haven't changed in almost 2 years Lol. Yet month after month they try and act like deplorables are jumping ship. Even if some idiots are "tired" of him they lasted long enough to know within a few weeks they'll be back to loving him. And they'll still vote for him. No one cares that your made up friend at work 'is tired' of the orange beast.

by Anonymousreply 44April 6, 2019 8:33 PM

It literally takes a Mexican or Black walking by those fake made up works friends at work to push them back to voting for Trump.

NONE of them have changed and NONE are pretending to change their minds & votes.

#FakeNews

They are racist Deplorables through and through.

by Anonymousreply 45April 6, 2019 8:44 PM

I want to sue someone. I was a victim of fraud in the 2016 election and and ongoing victim of fraud by the administration and their partners overseas.

I was intentionally mislead by Fox News and the campaign. As were all Americans.

Do I/we have a case?

by Anonymousreply 46April 6, 2019 8:47 PM

all the people being or having their loved ones harassed, misled, gaslighted and forced to sit by and have their country sold off for parts are suffering greatly. Their loss can be demonstrated in a court of law.

Does that mean we are are entitled to damages?

by Anonymousreply 47April 6, 2019 8:50 PM

Come on, legal types! Let’s get a case going for John Q. Public. He has suffered greatly at the hands of these crooks.

What about all the MAGA victims that have been beaten or killed? Can’t their families sue the admin?

Somethings got to give.

by Anonymousreply 48April 6, 2019 8:53 PM

My email address was stolen fraudulently from the DNC by the Sanders hacking and then used by both the Sanders and Trump campaigns. I personally would love to sue.

by Anonymousreply 49April 6, 2019 9:18 PM

Me too.

As for that dinner meeting Trump had with Murdoch, McCarthy and Hicks? Very interesting. They are plotting their strategy and probably picking McCarthy to find out what they can about Pelosi's operation. What I find interesting is that Devin Nunes, also a Congressman from California, was not at the meeting. Hope Hicks is VP at 21 Century Fox now, making very nice money.

by Anonymousreply 50April 6, 2019 9:26 PM

From what I gather a third (33%) of the electorate are his unwavering base. Another 8% to 11% are his somewhat "softer" supporters. Around 51%-52% won't vote for him at all. Maybe 7% to 8% are undecided independents or uninterested.

I could see 4%-5% of the electorate who voted for Trump in '16 changing their minds, particularly if there's a downturn in the economy.

Democrats have the numbers, but TURN-OUT is critical. Those older Trump supporters, 50+, will show at the polls.

Three or four states have got to be flipped.

Perhaps my figures are off, and others have better projections. I look at the polling, but Trump has stayed in the same range throughout his term. There is definitely a ceiling established, but also a base for him holding firm.

by Anonymousreply 51April 6, 2019 9:31 PM

Hope Hicks?

by Anonymousreply 55April 6, 2019 11:00 PM

R38 I'm not talking about his cult base. I am talking about the 10% who identify GOP, who voted for him, who may vote for him again but I see them getting fed up with this shit. He is already below water with their support. He cannot afford to lose any of them if he wants to win.

by Anonymousreply 56April 6, 2019 11:04 PM

Although if the Dem candidates don't shut up about reparations, Trump might not have to try all that hard. This bs is starting to scare me.

by Anonymousreply 62April 7, 2019 12:17 AM

I think he's surrounded himself with idiots and losers because he knows they will never turn on him.

They owe their positions to him. They're all a bunch of idiotic has beens who have been voted out of office, kicked out of jobs and run out of town. They know they are too dumb to get other gigs this good so there is NO WAY they turn on him.

He knows he can get them to cover for his crimes because they owe him.

Did anybody see AM Joy this morning? She had one of her regular guests on. This black guy, a democratic strategist who I mostly find annoying because he's loud and combative. He has wild hair. However, he was going off on Mitch McConnell this morning, and he was dead on! I'm starting to like him very much. I searched for a clip but couldn't fine one.

If anyone else saw this, please give more details. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 77April 7, 2019 1:52 AM

I doubt it was Cornel West. No way. He hated Obama and attacked him called him names and was irrationally hateful. He has avoided TV appearances for a long time. He may crawl out from under his rock for BErnie. He was a huge Bernie Booster. Like he was Bernie's "Black Spokesman." LOL! Joy Reid, OTOH, worked for Obama before she was on MSNBC contributor.

Though they obviously haven't taken to the street, nightclubs, or public events, Rudy Giuliani has been working with Trump on a "drag look". And Miss Lindz has helped. Rumor has it that Rudy and Donald, as Ruby & Spurrella, plan to do their drag show routines after hours at Mar-a-Lago to entertain very select guests.

No tax returns and no unredacted Mueller report. the Dems have no power to make anything happen

by Anonymousreply 98April 7, 2019 3:43 PM

I think congress will see an unredacted Mueller report. The House holds the purse stings. Nadler can defund the Justice Department if he doesn't get access. If the Justice Department has ruled that Trump can't be indicted because he's a sitting president AND won't provide congress with the unredacted Mueller report then we have a major constitutional crisis. If he can't be indicted, then the only way he can be held accountable for illegal actions is through impeachment. If Barr withhold evidence that Congress needs for impeachment then Barr has set the president up as Above the Law.

by Anonymousreply 99April 7, 2019 3:51 PM

....and Barr will be charged with obstruction of justice.

by Anonymousreply 100April 7, 2019 3:58 PM

R100 Which is how this very well may play out. Barr is positioned to protect the president at all costs. This type of gamesmanship would get Trump past the 2020 election and would energize his base. If Trump is re-elected, then he pardons Barr. If not, the new president wants to "heal" the country and moves on.

by Anonymousreply 103April 7, 2019 4:14 PM

R103 What the fuck are you talking about? I'm certainly not an "all hope is lost" troll. I think the republicans are going to play some nasty games with the Mueller report and the dems have to be ready to play at their same level. I think Jerry Nadler is doing what he can. I wish he would just go ahead and issue subpoenas because they have already told him they won't cooperate. I also think if Barr may try to classify the report. The republicans don't want either the Mueller report or Trump's taxes to see the light of day and there is a reason. I also think folks from Mueller's team will soon start leaking bits and pieces to show examples of what Barr is hiding and to force his hand. I don't think all hope is lost at all. I'm just saying that the republicans aren't going quietly into the night and we have to be prepared for their methods.

by Anonymousreply 104April 7, 2019 4:21 PM

Mnuchin, Ross, Pence, Barr, McMahon, Coats, Lighthizer, Wilkie, Chao, DeVos, Azar, Wheeler, Acosta, Carson, Shanahann, Zinke, Perry, Pompeo, Bolton, Kushners, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, numerous appointed judges, and dozens more of Trump appointees.

Adding poisonous snakes, McTurtles, weasels, mosquitos, leeches, fungus, etc., ain't draining any swamp. .

by Anonymousreply 106April 7, 2019 4:30 PM

R88 They are. What's your point?

by Anonymousreply 107April 7, 2019 4:32 PM

R94 Such a simple statement and so true. This is what I don't get, (at least for this moment). What does Barr get out of it? Why did he come forward over a year ago, seemingly out of the shadows, to write that opinion essay backing the President if he were to be indicted? It's not like someone already had Kompromat on him like we suspect they do on McConnell, Miss Lindsay, and all the other corrupt Rethuglicans. Is he just begging to be corrupted? Who would want that fucking job with that psychopath as your boss?

Seriously, does anyone have info on Barr or at least a credible theory? It just makes no sense to me.

by Anonymousreply 108April 7, 2019 4:43 PM

I don't know about Barr particularly but I have no doubt the emails that Russia stole have extremely damaging and probably criminal information on every fucking Republican there is. I suppose it's possible Barr got roped into it since he's connected to them all. Most of those gray-haired old farts probably emailed all sorts of shit they shouldn't have.

by Anonymousreply 109April 7, 2019 5:22 PM

R108, good question.

It was clear as can be that Trump would be a nightmare for the new attorney general. Remember when acting Atty Gen Whittaker testified before Congress and was sweating like a pig? I’m sure that was Trump related. It’s not just that he yells irrationally at his cabinet, but the constant changing of his position, undermining his staff and their weeks or even months of work, that would drive me crazy. Plus “overruling his people” and constantly blaming them for his deficiencies.

I had a crappy boss once who pressed too hard, and I quit on the spot. I would expect that from his cabinet, more often. If it has, no doubt Trump would react by firing the person who quit.

by Anonymousreply 110April 7, 2019 5:32 PM

Barr is a fixer. He is supposed to fix the situation by making sure the GOP gets off the hook. But for some reason they, the GOP, botch it up and put too much trust in their right wing propaganda machinery.

by Anonymousreply 111April 7, 2019 5:42 PM

the latest stunt from despicable Nunes-he's preparing to send 8 criminal referrals to Barr about leaking classified info and conspiracy. The names haven't been released yet but you just know Barr will likely go after these people.

by Anonymousreply 114April 7, 2019 7:02 PM

R111, yes Barr is the fixer. Since he was last AG under G.H.W. Bush, he has remained in Republican political circles since. He was solicited by powerful Republican officeholders, major donors, top party operatives, and from leaders of right-wing/conservative organizations/societies to assume the job. His auditioning letter was part of the plan. Much of his legal clients have been from these groups and the corporate/big business sector. I don't believe it is just about protecting Trump personally. A significant chunk of major Republican politicians received foreign-associated oligarch money for their PACs, plus they all received tainted NRA money. Emails were hacked by "Russher", and there's much dirt that hasn't surfaced. To protect Trump, is also protecting a vast network of sordid behaviors they don't want exposed by chain disclosures.

by Anonymousreply 115April 7, 2019 7:04 PM

Is there a rule about Congress investigating other Congressmen? Nunes needs to be investigated. He likely would be found to have obstructed some of the investigations into Trump

by Anonymousreply 116April 7, 2019 7:08 PM
Barr is the fixer.
To protect Trump, is also protecting a vast network of sordid behaviors they don't want exposed by chain disclosures.

Given the depth of the stratagem and what's at stake for the GOP they'd surely stop at nothing. Mueller has to know what he's up against. It must seem overwhelming and dangerous.

But, cometh the hour, cometh the man. Sheer intelligence, will, and a crucial commitment of heroism might yet prevail. History demands.

I don't know how anyone with a semblance of decency would take on that role - especially knowing what he was going to have to do. He is going to ruin whatever reputation he has and could face going to jail for obstruction of justice. There has got to be big money involved somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 147April 7, 2019 11:01 PM

R139 Funny!!! I think Ben Carson has to be next. If Trump is nominating Herman Cain to the Fed, there can only be one black at a time in the administration. I remember shortly after the inauguration, the Trumps fired the White House Butler and another high level servant - both were black and one was a woman and replaced both with white men. I'd like to see what the White House staff (which is non-political) looks like under Trump. I'll bet there has been a major black-out.

by Anonymousreply 148April 7, 2019 11:03 PM

Miller, Kushner, Huckabee-Sanders, Mulvaney, and for some reason, Kellyanne Conway, are among the few top survivors of Trump's WH.

Somebody outside the WH is keeping Kellyanne there. She's tight with the Mercers. Her husband George, though, is a prominent Trump critic.

She doesn't need the money and plenty of other Republican candidates for offices would hire her "consulting and polling" services.

by Anonymousreply 149April 7, 2019 11:06 PM

R149 I agree. There is an outside force keeping KAC in the White House. No way would Trump keep her around with her husband sprouting off the way he does if there wasn't someone forcing his hand. Remember, he hated Andrew McCabe for his wife's politics as well as DOJ's Bruce Ohr wife Nellie for hers. There were much lower level than KOC who is in the WH daily.

by Anonymousreply 153April 7, 2019 11:16 PM

R124 In addition to those points and incentives, Barr has an inflated ego and obviously craves influence and power. He may also had expected, once confirmed, he could control all, protect Trump and cohorts, and face little resistance in doing so. That's where he has miscalculated. He still assumes he can.

by Anonymousreply 154April 7, 2019 11:16 PM

Maybe with Miss Lindzthangy's help, he'll adapt to having the vapors, using smelling salts, and resting on a fainting couch with his arm over his forehead.

by Anonymousreply 158April 7, 2019 11:54 PM

STRESS !?!....This is what he thrives on....its his specialty. Hes extremely corrupt...and surprisingly, everybody knew, but nobody addressed it at his confirmation...instead focusing on his brief to the DOJ...which, with his answers for him to lose confirmation....but like with EVERY SINGLE CABINET MEMBER, JUDGES, ETC....McConnell pushed them through. I know it sounds cliche at this point, but if this were a Democrat as president, it would have been over 18 months ago...if that long.

by Anonymousreply 159April 8, 2019 1:52 AM

I think the best thing we can do is have the media put Steve Miler on TV a lot. A LOT. Have him speak on the immigration situation, etc. Start referring to him pubicly as the "shadow president" the man who is really running the WH. If we can give him a lot of attention and publicity, and make sure his public image is the man behind the PResident, etc. he will be gone in a matter of weeks. Trump's ego would not permit him to tolerate Miller being touted as his "brain." One of the reasons Bannon was happy to get out of the WH, is because of all the jealousy and back stabbing. And he would have been fine with it except he was often on the losing side.

"Mr. President, If everything is on the up-and-up with both your tax returns and the Mueller report, why exactly can't the public see them? We know you're not currently under audit nor would that prevent you from having the returns released. As for the second item, Mueller's investigators created public-ready summaries of all sections of the report that your Attorney General ignored in favor of his own summary which he now says isn't a summary."

Why can't a reporter ask this question as stated above?

by Anonymousreply 185April 8, 2019 4:04 PM

R185, Trump has held two or three solo press conferences during his entire Presidency. He either will not answer questions he doesn’t like, or he lies.

by Anonymousreply 186April 8, 2019 4:34 PM

Barr will do a delayed, highly redacted report. Mnuchin and company, if behalf of Trump, will refuse to release Trump's tax returns. House committees will subpoena the original Mueller report and tax returns. Barr and Treasury Department resist. Democrats in House file in federal court to secure this material. Trump administration appeals each step all the way to the Supreme Court. This process will take many months, perhaps nearly two years. The public and credible media need to ratchet up the pressure. Mueller and several on his team need to testify before Congress. Barr cannot control these people to sustain a cover-up.

by Anonymousreply 187April 8, 2019 4:42 PM

Or resorts to attacking the reporter as a representative of a failing fake news organisation. Which isn't to say that R185's germane questions shouldn't go viral and be repeated ad infinitum.

These questions should be in the air every single time Trump says or does anything - undermining each new attempt at insulting deflection. The world will thus see again and again that he has no plausible answer.

by Anonymousreply 208April 8, 2019 6:50 PM

This Secret Service Director firing could have a whole other story behind it. Those guys know everything about Trump. Everything. I wonder if there was someone willing to speak up? Trump tries -usually is successful - to fire people before they can become an issue. The Secret Service have done a good job of protecting and dealing with Trump. No cause for firing other than someone became a threat to dear ol Trump.

This could get very messy behind the scenes.

The Secret Service Director would go to the head of Homeland Security if he needed to report something big about the President. Both fired the same day.

The Republicans use anything for optics they can. They use any issue that can be used as red meat for their followers. The Democratic Party: "Now, now. What qualifications does Miller have to run immigration policy?

People in such a role need experience in human/social services, immigration law, federal law enforcement, foreign relations, elected office, etc. Even many in the military have experience managing population movements and security.

Miller has no special experience in any of that. He's acting on ideology and his own biases.

R287, and you think Miller & Trump are going to change that as you portray in a stereotypic way? Their approach and methodologies are generating sympathy and support for undocumented immigrants and illegal border crossings. The child separations were not necessary, are seen as cruel, and is a public relations failure Fix it, but do it in a sensible way. When Trump & Republicans had control of both houses of Congress, they accomplished nothing in generating new immigration policies, and approved nothing to tighten the abuses in the system.

by Anonymousreply 288April 9, 2019 12:51 PM

The media hypes a myth. They do it for ratings and money. They create this myth of normalcy. The Republican Party is already dead, and being kept on "life support." The fact is, those who self identify as active Republicans now are either a very tiny minority of people who are upset with the Republicans like Kristol, and a few others, and that is a very narrow, insignificant slice who do not support this iteration of the party, or they are the Neo Nazi racist POS MAGAs.

The main thing to know is that fewer people self identify as Republicans than at any time in the history of American political parties. It has become a fringe Group like the Green Party or WTF ever Jill Stein called herself. And the Media keeps talking about them as if they are still the Republican Party of Reagan. It's like this. let's say hypothetically, the Republican Party used to have 100 members. Now the membership has dwindled to 10 members. Of those 10 members, 9 support Trump. So I guess the Media can say 90% of Republicans support Trump. The base has shrunk. He has done nothing to expand his base and he cannot win...legally...with what he has. In fact, fewer people will support him in 2020, than in 2016.

They're facing a slow decline that will accelerate with time. The GOP based is aging and mostly not being replaced by younger supporters. Once the old guard dies off the Republicans may be in serious danger of withering away. Of course they're going to do a fuckton of damage on their way out. They need to be ousted NOW and then left to decline into obscurity.

I agree that hate groups, and the younger neo nazi shits are active. But again, they are not nearly as well organized as they want us to believe. Just because they are loud, violent and dumb, doesn't mean we need to cower and worry. Fuck the electoral College. We know you are going to provide a heavily redacted Mueller Report.

We know that you will be telling the Congress exactly what you want to remain hidden from the Congress and the American People.

We know that you will not be AG forever.

We know that you are fucked.

Pardon the Fox Radio link, but that's where Karen 'Mother' Pence & Charlotte go for commentaries. Asked to respond to Pete Buttigieg's recent remarks, the Pences revert, as always, to their "religious freedom" justification.

Religious freedom, to them, means permission to discriminate and defy civil law selectively.

We all knew what a sick joke this was all going to be when he was elected, but it's just so much worse than I ever imagined it would be. It's like a complete is in control of our country and there's no way out. What's especially sad is how many of my family members have been "turned" by this cult. These were people I thought were decent and kind and just taking a look at their Facebook pages, several of them have turned into rabid, racist assholes that I wouldn't share a cup of coffee with let alone admit that I was related to them.

I feel like I'm stuck in "Hostel: Washington, D.C."

George T. Conway 3d, Kellyanne's husband, is right on the point of Trump's mental health and competency for the job.

Just a reminder that George Conway is a Republican and used to lick Brett Kavanaugh's asshole. It's great that he's coming out against Trump, but he is not any friend of Democrats or even democracy itself.

Plainly I am not well-educated on cult programming, but I contend that these family members have been conditioned by some messaging that too few others have escaped. What would happen if those of us with these programmed family members asked them why there are so many Cabinet vacancies, what makes Stephen Miller deserving of his current position, or to compare this current administration to GW Bush's administration? Would they shut up, would they spout some brainwashed, hypnotized response like Frank Sinatra's character in "The Manchurian Candidate"?

Would their friends, families and coworkers recognize by their responses and posts that they've submitted to some mind control?

by Anonymousreply 325April 9, 2019 6:42 PM

Nevertheless, they are predisposed to Fox's messaging. They "choose" to watch the channel, by-passing other media outlets. Murdoch's NewsCorp can be faulted for blatant misinformation and biased, one-sided presentations to watchers.

My sister is getting married this summer and has not invited several family members. Like one first cousin but her sister is invited, one uncle but not his wife (because she bashed both of us during the Confederate monument debacle - remember that?), etc. She's full-on segregating her guest list and no Trump bootlickers will be allowed.

by Anonymousreply 327April 9, 2019 7:17 PM

I'm still laughing at all the butt-hurt assholes claiming no collusion yet refusing to release the report. No tax cheating yet refusing to release the taxes.

In so many instances over the last few decades, conservatives have chided "what have you got to hide?" when challenges come up against our Bill of Rights.

We all saw the secret meetings with Trump/Putin.

by Anonymousreply 328April 9, 2019 7:24 PM
They are fixated on FOX News who feeds them propaganda and talking points

Tragic. "Only this channel has the real truth." Many of the modern “news” outlets are manufactured to incite fear and anger in their audiences. Since the FCC’s Fairness Doctrine was lifted under Reagan’s presidency, channels like Fox News are not under any requirements to report accurate information or to present balanced, nuanced perspectives. It is easier than ever for media outlets to manipulate viewers with no regard for journalistic integrity.

Which is an easier task, reacclimating FOX News watchers to a complicated and diverse world of opinion and facts, or teaching non-voting citizens that Facebook likes and Twitter retweets and botnets are insufficient replacements for election participation?

by Anonymousreply 329April 9, 2019 7:26 PM
Arguing with Trump enthusiasts is wasted energy. They don't want to understand. They have to be out-voted.

Agreed on points two and three. Arguing with them is wasted energy because one side will have facts and logic, the other will have fear and anger. Deprogramming starts with identifying the fears and their causes, and phrasing "What policies implemented or promises kept have diminished your fears? What agencies or departments should have budget cuts so the President and his family can fly to his Florida estate every weekend?"

by Anonymousreply 337April 9, 2019 9:38 PM

R337, I stopped screaming at my brother-in-laws Trump loving relatives because it was just going nowhere and really damaging relationships. They also are all fairly wealthy, white, suburban and not too smart. I do ask questions like:

Do you really think the country is going in a better direction or getting more divisive?

Are you paying less or more in taxes? (They are paying more) Do you feel like that tax money is being used to make roads and people safer?

They know deep down they're wrong, but it's pride.

It's embarrassing frankly.

I've read multiple accounts from people who discover that someone they thought was normal, good, "all there," voted for Trump. Now they could have been momentarily hornswoggled, or they may've had a massive brain fart. Not all of them came out of the womb with a predisposition to be a MAGA stereotype. If nobody explores their so-called reasoning, or the factors that led them to "set a spell in Deploravillee," especially in front of an audience, there is no hope of converting.

There are ex-ISIS members, ex-Muslims, ex-Catholics, ex-Zionists, ex-Separatists (Quebec), why can't there be ex-Deplorables?

I can relate to being surrounded by people I wouldn't have expected to be deplorables. Way too many of my aunts, uncles & cousins are. Then it gets worse with their spouses and family, etc. And I'm in a blue state. I avoid talking about it like a plague. I've also pulled away from all them and will greet them at family gatherings but leave it at that. I'd honestly rather hide in the corner and look on my phone. I hate them but don't want to cause pointless problems, mostly for my not-deplorable parents. Some of them I knew were republican but at first I assumed they wouldn't vote for him...they couldn't possibly be THAT bad. Nope. They did and I can see they've changed. Same situation with some gay people I know. One a lesbian and another an older male couple (who recently got married!). Same thing, I've pulled away from them. Also, I had a boss that always played the "I don't like any politician" card (we know what that is code for). Mind you, he's an immigrant himself and almost all of his workers are undocumented. He's pretty active on Facebook and finally the other day it happened. He shared some stupid pro trump post that had his face in the middle with Obama, Hillary, etc on the sides. Didn't even read it, he just got hidden. So, from my experience, these people just keep coming out of the woodwork. None of them have had a change of heart. It drives me crazy and I'm so relieved my parents and immediate family vote blue.

by Anonymousreply 347April 9, 2019 10:26 PM

R345 Maybe you can convert the independent voters who got conned, but you can forget about converting hardcore deplorables. Being deplorable is not about politics or even reality... it's all based on prejudice, ignorance and callousness. And most of all, they are just plain irrational. If you have spent any time with irrational people, you wouldn't bother "converting" them... You can't reason with them! They need to suffer some crisis of conscience to change their mental trajectory, and many never do.

Over the past few years he's started saying things like, "The thing about Dotard is that the things he's doing aren't wrong... it's his delivery."

He retired a few years ago and now sits at home watching Fox news.

I can't understand it.

Are any Democratic representatives playing "stump the chumps" at broadcast hearings today? Are they quoting or replaying media recordings of Trump apologists being nonsensical and insane?

by Anonymousreply 355April 9, 2019 10:51 PM

Mnuchin had his hands deep in creating the economic mess that emerged in 2008. He got way more wealthy, and his reckless activities helped himself, but were a big contributor to many others losing their savings. To put this guy in office to run the Treasury Department was absurd. But McTurtle's Senate confirmed him. He and his supposedly "trophy" wife are arrogant and condescending toward anyone that don't have their financial status.

by Anonymousreply 356April 9, 2019 10:56 PM

No, I know, R350. I can't understand why he started watching Fox news to begin with, is what I'm saying.

R365 I think it will end up in court. What worries me is that Trump thinks he is above the law. When Nixon was ordered to turn over the tapes he knew he had to or would face impeachment. The courts won't be ruling against Trump - he is purposefully taken out of this scenario. They will rule against the IRS Director and Mnuchin. Whether they will risk jail by not complying is another story.

Then they’ll start beating me up every day and I’ll have to drop out of school. I’ll never go to college. I’ll never even get a GED.
NYT: Trump Says the U.S. Is ‘Full.’

Bernie agrees. “Oh my god, there’s a lot of poverty in this world, and you’re going to have people from all over the world. And I don’t think that’s something that we can do at this point. Can’t do it,” the senator added.

Sanders, however, has long criticized open borders. In 2015, he referred to them as a “right wing proposal” pushed forward by the wealthy Koch brothers. “You're doing away with the concept of a nation state, and I don't think there's any country in the world which believes in that,” he said in an interview with Ezra Klein of Vox.

The senator is correct in saying that brothers Charles and David Koch, longtime Republican donors, have supported open borders. As recently as last week, Charles Koch spoke in California promoting the idea.

“I would let everybody in who comes here to contribute, and no one who wants to come here to do harm, and see how easy this is,” the billionaire industrialist said last Monday, according to The Post. “This goes to our whole philosophy of openness... We have to have an open society—open to ideas, people, goods and services—to learn from each other and have us all benefit.”

by Anonymousreply 376April 10, 2019 12:40 AM

A friend of mine had a conversation with a moderate-ish GOP voter who occasionally votes for Dems. He voted for a lot of Dems in the mid-terms. He voted for Pres Bone Spurs. He was bringing up Socialism and how all the Dems seemed to embrace it. My friend said he was bracing for the usual talking points but the guy said something surprising. He said he keeps reading about scam after scam in the private sector, rising drug prices for no reason, heartless job cutting when CEO's are getting huge golden parachutes. He then said he was beginning to see the point of having more socialism if the private sector was going to continue to act in the manner they are with little to no regulations reigning them in. He said the private sector was effectively destroying capitalism by their behavior. He pointed out he voted for more Dems this past year than he has ever in one election. He said the most he ever did prior was 50/50 split in 2008. My friend asked if he would vote for Pres Bone Spurs in 2020. He said flat out he would not no matter what. He said even if they nominated AOC he would vote for her because maybe the private sector would get their shit together.

by Anonymousreply 377April 10, 2019 12:43 AM

R377 I wish I could have faith in people who say such things. However, in my own experience, I heard people Im familiar with talk about how disgusted they were with Dotard and how they hated Hillary, but would have to vote for her over him....

by Anonymousreply 378April 10, 2019 12:52 AM

The label of Socialism doesn't have to power it used to have. YOunger people are well traveled. And with the internet you can find out what's going on all over the world. So when you see free healthcare in most of Europe etc. and 6 weeks of vacation, and all the other things that make life graceful and less stressed, good schools and subsidies for the arts? Hey I'll take some of that. I went to grad school with a lovely lady and she and her husband moved to London, and then to Portugal. They said they will never come back here. They have two little kids now and they love the healthcare and the benefits. African American couple.

by Anonymousreply 379April 10, 2019 12:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 380April 10, 2019 12:56 AM

Also, the socialism thing doesn't have the same stigma because the private sector is fucking so much up. There is far too much greed and it can't be hidden or explained away. The private sector will be the end of capitalism if they don't get their shit together. Every day there is multiple stories about how they fuck up numerous things, their greed, their uncaring, how they sell us out. Aside from citizens turning on them, they will actually destroy the economy and our way of living due to all what was described above. Start counting the stories you read daily of the scandals, fuck ups, greed they commit. I don't understand how they believe this is sustainable.

by Anonymousreply 381April 10, 2019 1:05 AM

There is no such thing as a pure socialist or a pure capitalist economy. All economies are mixed economies. The fact is our government subsidizes Boeing and a lot of other industries is a form of socialism. The corporations bitch about being regulated when it restricts them or restrains them. But they love it when it facilitates their agenda. We need balance, and we need an activist government to bring stability to our financial services industry, and to deal with the environmental issues we are facing. So we need to start pointing out to people what all this really means. I usually start out asking them what they mean when they talk about Socialism? 90% of the time they have no idea.

by Anonymousreply 382April 10, 2019 1:10 AM

R382, right they just point to Venezuela or whatever conservative talking point is saying. You need a hefty dose of socialism to make capitalism work.

by Anonymousreply 383April 10, 2019 1:12 AM

R377, r379 and r380 are absolutely right. And I think some corporations are getting it—but only a few. This is why I’ve noticed companies announcing they’re raising their minimum wages. I believe Target has, as well as Bank of America.

But most companies are run by greedy stupid mf’ers, so I don’t expect this to become a trend. If they were smart, they’d do it.

AG William Barr Reveals Four Areas of Redaction in Mueller Report

“First is grand jury information…

The second is information that the the intelligence community believes would reveal intelligence sources and methods.

The third are information in the report that could interfere with ongoing prosecutions. You’ll recall that the special counsel did spin off a number of cases that are still being pursued. And we want to make sure that none of the information in the report would impinge upon either the ability of the prosecutors to prosecute the cases, or the fairness to the defendants.

And finally, we intend to redact information that implicated the privacy or reputational interest of peripheral players where there is a decision not to charge them.

Game set and match, Maxine. And it's on tape for the rest of Mnuchin's life.

R376. Of course the Koch Bros want open borders. As industrialists, they have profited immensely from cheap labor, avoided paying health benefits to many workers, and see rapid population growth as new consumers for their businesses.

Doubtful the Koch Bros care about the impact costs of undocumented migration as it relates to education, social services, the judicial system, health care, the environment, etc. The Koch Bros enjoy their tax cuts and deregulations; they ain't interested in helping pay the governmental costs as it pertains to human services.

by Anonymousreply 399April 10, 2019 12:59 PM

Heeee heeeee, Adam Schiff just referred to Barr as Trump’s current Roy Cohn. His only function is protect the President. Not a flattering comparison indeed.

by Anonymousreply 400April 10, 2019 1:16 PM

Barr is an arrogant fuck. He thinks he is the only one who "knows" the Law and he likes to play semantic games parsing words and assuming he is baffling people with his superior skills. He'd be wrong. Anyone who challenges him he will act dismissive and hide behind his so called skills, but it is a defense mechanism designed to trhow his opponent off balance and try to psyche them out and make them feel insecure. I bet he was a horrible manipulative father. Someone who is unimpressed with his position and his so called legal expertise needs to confront him on TV and lacerate his ass. I'd love to see him try to take Eric Holder on. The thing is, 99% of Republicans, especially Trump's people are limited and handicapped by ideology. It blinds them and makes them more stupid than they already are.

by Anonymousreply 401April 10, 2019 1:23 PM

Now Barr wants to know how the Russia probe started. This guy is more evil than I ever imagined.

by Anonymousreply 402April 10, 2019 1:25 PM

Yes r402, he seems more interested in scandalizing the genesis of the investigation over the actual criminality and wrongdoings of Rethugs and Trump. So dishonest. How can someone live with themselves being so evil.

by Anonymousreply 403April 10, 2019 1:34 PM

You watch. Barr is going to use this investigation of the investigation to purge the FBI even more. That's what's going on across every LAw enforcement type agency in government, Homeland Security, DoJ, and other Intel gathering operations. All of them have dirt on Trump, and all of them are getting scrubbed. As Deep Throat famously said, "Look at the bigger picture. You're missing the over all. .." This is a widespread intelligence/investigative purge.

by Anonymousreply 404April 10, 2019 1:38 PM

I have to say that this overall consolidation of power and complete hollowing out of the administrative state (Rachel went over the vast amount of vacancies on her Monday show) is starting to freak me out a little. Trump and his cabal are creating this fiefdom of supplicants who will do anything for the dear leader.

How quickly can these immigrant camps be changed into death camps? They're not letting anyone from Congress see inside of them so who's to say they're not already doing it? The vulgarity and sheer depravity of this administration and the gaseous bag of orange offal that sits at its top, will be a dark mark on the history of our nation for decades to come. And anyone associated with this shit should be shunned Game of Thrones-SHAME! style for the rest of their time on this Earth.

by Anonymousreply 405April 10, 2019 1:43 PM

If we survive it, R405.

by Anonymousreply 406April 10, 2019 1:45 PM

I've said all along, don't keep your eye on the ball but on the court.

I really don't think Trump is going to last much longer but there won't be any dancing in the streets when we see all the actual damage he has really done.

by Anonymousreply 407April 10, 2019 1:52 PM

If the dems don’t act ASAP and get passed the diversions TRUMP will be elected again...

by Anonymousreply 408April 10, 2019 1:54 PM

Mnuchin DARES to tell Mother Maxine what to do with her "gravel."

by Anonymousreply 409April 10, 2019 2:02 PM

She wholly impressed me in that interaction. Mnuchin is a douche.

by Anonymousreply 410April 10, 2019 2:14 PM

Mnuchin got so flustered during that exchange. It was pure gold (and has since gone viral).

I love Maxine Waters.

by Anonymousreply 411April 10, 2019 2:31 PM

I swear Trump is one of the stupidest people...........................Trump on George Washington, during a visit to Mount Vernon: “If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it...You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you

some of the responses:

"There is a 99.99% chance he did not know Washington D.C. was named after George Washington"

"Truly, there are not enough things named after George Washington in the city of Washington, home to George Washington university and Georgetown. How will we remember the name?"

"Because nobody remembers George Washington."

"There are plenty of places named after George Washington. I guarantee you my state will never be named Trump."

by Anonymousreply 412April 10, 2019 2:42 PM

What that video revealed is the Mnuchin doesn’t have fucking clue what anyone else was talking about. He’s using his position to make “deals” and only that. When Mrs. Beatty (love her) was taking about minorities businesses and their reps you can tell he’s lost.

by Anonymousreply 413April 10, 2019 2:48 PM

Lindsey Graham has been pushing the "investigate the investigators" and "blame it all on Hillary" narratives for many months. He's using his role as Senate Judiciary Committee to do so. Graham is on various Fox News shows almost daily, and other right-wing media outlets, pushing his messaging.

Both Graham and Barr have acknowledged their collaboration on pursing the investigators and Hillary Clinton and her campaign.

This is about protecting Trump and his cohorts, take any focus off Russia's involvement, diversion, and political posturing

The truth is Graham is not clean in this mess, and his motives and behaviors need seriously scrutinized.

by Anonymousreply 414April 10, 2019 3:05 PM

Wha...?!? The FBI was looking into the Trump campaign?! Why? Because they were all talking to Russian operatives and lying about it? Why would that raise suspicions?

If Barr thinks that argument is going to work, he’s not just ammoral, he’s an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 415April 10, 2019 3:35 PM
And finally, we intend to redact information that implicated the privacy or reputational interest of peripheral players where there is a decision not to charge them.

Mr. Barr, have you classified President Trump as a peripheral player?

by Anonymousreply 416April 10, 2019 3:37 PM

Ugh! This bullshit is just dragging on long past its expiration date. I've turned off the news until something major happens.

by Anonymousreply 417April 10, 2019 3:43 PM

R416 Barr says he will not redact information that would be embarrassing to Trump. He said third parties were non-public figures.

by Anonymousreply 418April 10, 2019 3:47 PM

Barr acts like he's simply above being questioned by anyone.

by Anonymousreply 419April 10, 2019 3:50 PM

So there is a confirmation on this factoid.

Barr says "I think spying did occur" on the Trump campaign. Right-wing media is orgasming over it -- conveniently omitting his followup sentence: "The question is whether it was adequately predicated."

by Anonymousreply 421April 10, 2019 3:57 PM

Barr is looking for any excuse to discredit the entire investigation, which will nullify the Mueller Report when it finally reaches the public. Barr knows that his obstruction isnt working, so he needs to implode the entire thing. Helen Keller can see whats going on.

by Anonymousreply 422April 10, 2019 3:59 PM

I have lost hope. I know this is what the Deplorables want, but we have a completely dishonest President, cabinet, Attorney General, Republican Senate and Trump appointed Supreme Court Justices. He fires anyone who disagrees with him. How will we fix this - other than vote out the idiots?

by Anonymousreply 423April 10, 2019 3:59 PM

There’s the answer. Vote out the idiots. Can you imagine that huge shit-stained swamp being drained all in one Election Day? Rejoicing will ensue.

by Anonymousreply 424April 10, 2019 4:02 PM

If the House initiates impeachment against this president, they will be able to obtain the full, unredacted report. Is this being considered at all? He's already done enough out in the open to warrant impeachment. Once the full report gets leaked out to the public, the full horrors of

It's a big move, but I think we're moving closer and closer to it being a "nuclear option" worth considering.

by Anonymousreply 425April 10, 2019 4:06 PM

You know, I am getting very, very anxious about all this stuff. It seems as if, day after day, night after night, we watch shit happening. Pundits and politicians sit around on TV and opine about it. They observe Barr on TV, or Mnuchin, or Trump, etc. and "He did this, he did that, it means this, it means that..." and nothing happens. It's like we're watching a Coup with commentary. Nothing happens. We temporize: " Just wait until..." But there is nothing going on. I want to see Federal Marshals walk into the White House, ut the cuffs on Trump, Miller, Jared, Ivanka, adn run their asses into the wagon for the ride to jail. No bail. Confiscate all passports. At the same time, arrest Parscales, Prince and Bannon. ROund their asses up. I'm also getting increasingly suspicious of the corporate media. We have seen repeatedly, how the NYT can fuck us. With the exception of a few reporters and analysts I still trust, I'm very uneasy.

by Anonymousreply 426April 10, 2019 4:17 PM

I've said from the beginnings that he will end up classifying the report at Top Secret - Password.

by Anonymousreply 429April 10, 2019 4:36 PM

Jim Sciutto: AG Barr says he will deliver different reports to Congress and the public with, it seems, different level of redactions.

by Anonymousreply 430April 10, 2019 4:39 PM

Thanks R430. That arrogant fuck! What part of "unredacted" does he not understand? He is ignoring a directive given to him by Congress with their full authority, and he is telling them, in effect, no, this is what I'll give you and oh, we'll give you more than the public.... Subpoena that fucking report and take his ass to court.

by Anonymousreply 431April 10, 2019 4:42 PM

that fucking fat piece of shit Barr is doing exactly what the nutjob right wingers on Fox want. Now Hannity can keep spinning the false narrative that Trump campaign was unfairly and illegally targeted by "the deep state"

by Anonymousreply 432April 10, 2019 4:47 PM

In court, I would think you could make a pretty strong argument that the people paid for this report with taxpayer money and as direct representative of the people, the house Intelligence Committee (who have been given clearances to see our nation's most sensitive material) have the right to see the full report. It is in fact their duty to review the report and exactly why they have security clearances.

by Anonymousreply 433April 10, 2019 4:49 PM

What’s the point of 2 versions? The one he gives Congress will become public in about 10 minutes anyway.

I just heard a woman on TV talking about getting half the tax refund she was used to. When she learned that fewer taxes were taken from her pay check then paid for with a smaller refund, meaning she got no tax break at all (while corporations and the rich got millions) she said, "I'm sure Trump didn't realize that would happen, I still support him" I wanted to scream.

So, lady, you're fine with a stupid greedy president who doesn't understand what he's doing? He knows exactly what he's doing by destroying our democracy and handing our country's bounty to the rich on a golden platter.

I am distraught that this is happening before our eyes. I've marched, I've written letters, I send money every month to Democratic election campaigns and then sit and watch arrogant, greedy, lying criminals destroy our government, cage babies, insult our allies, and coddle dictators and on and on.

Were in a sorry place, not sure if it can be turned around. Job one is to get these creeps out of office, job 2 is the rest of the Democratic agenda. No more pussy footing around, Dem candidates and the media, you've got to come out strong against conman trump and his arrogant allies.

by Anonymousreply 436April 10, 2019 4:50 PM

Is there some reason that Barr is acting like he is simply above the law?

Can’t The Washington Post it something do an exposé on who his son-in-law is and what exactly his role in the White House and whether or not there is a conflict of interest there?

by Anonymousreply 437April 10, 2019 4:52 PM

The House needs to just initiate impeachment proceedings and get ahold of the full, unredacted report that way. I’m getting really sick of this bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 438April 10, 2019 4:54 PM
I've marched, I've written letters, I send money every month to Democratic election campaigns and then sit and watch arrogant, greedy, lying criminals destroy our government, cage babies, insult our allies, and coddle dictators and on and on.

I hate to write this, but maybe influencing the low-information voters through personal communication might work. I tend to think Trump supporters know everything I do, therefore they are evil, awful, myopic and masochistic, but there's lots to suggest they might be reality-deficient.

by Anonymousreply 439April 10, 2019 4:54 PM

R437, Barr, according to people who have observed him for a long time, has always been like this. “The law” for him is just an excuse to get away with doing bad things.

by Anonymousreply 440April 10, 2019 4:55 PM

I'm loving some of the MSNBC legal analysts who were former DOJ officials eating crow now that Barr is doing the president's bidding. During his confirmation hearings they were saying that he's an institutionalist and when he walks in the door and down the halls he will feel the weight of his responsibilities. Bullshit. He's nothing of the sort. He walked down the halls and told his assistant to order multi-colored markers. He couldn't wait to start protecting Trump. I've said it before. I think there is a huge off-shore account with his name on it. Jesus, what if the FBI thinks he's compromised. He has an investigation on them and they may have one on him.

by Anonymousreply 441April 10, 2019 5:01 PM

So much for that rough and tough new state AG they voted in over there.

by Anonymousreply 442April 10, 2019 5:14 PM

Little has been done to counter Russian intrusion in the U.S. election processes. They are doing it again for the upcoming 2020 election. They are already doing stuff on social media per the Democratic candidates. DL doesn't appear to be immune to such. They are trolling by any means accessible to all kinds of sites. Expecting Facebook to be aggressive in preventing this kind of stuff will fall well short in serious effort. I imagine many Republican politicians are silently welcoming it as long as they are not personal targets. As to meddling with voting and counting, I would not discount new attempts in targeted states and precincts.

by Anonymousreply 443April 10, 2019 5:14 PM

R443....If you recall, Trump dismantled all the departments within IC that protected us regarding election interference.

by Anonymousreply 444April 10, 2019 5:18 PM

WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN....TRUMP LIES. ABOUT EVERYTHING.

by Anonymousreply 445April 10, 2019 5:21 PM

They are definitely hoping that Russia “meddles” again (such a demure term for what actually happened). They’ve done nothing to secure our elections. “Russher, if you’re listening...”

I wish someone would cut off Putin’s cock and stuff it down his throat and then duct-tape his mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 446April 10, 2019 5:25 PM

It is called sabotage and espionage.

by Anonymousreply 447April 10, 2019 5:27 PM

that fat fucking piece of shit pig Barr is a fucking partisan hack. I don't understand why anyone gave him the benefit of the doubt following his behavior during the Bush I years. Of course it's worse now.

His arrogance is fucking infuriating. I just want to punch him.

It seems so many of the repubs in this administration are absolutely drunk on having power. It like sexually arouses them to behave like animals

by Anonymousreply 448April 10, 2019 5:30 PM

It's going to get even worse before it get's better. Because the Base that voted him into office has to suffer the consequences of those actions, and we're not there yet. Unfortunately, that means the rest of us have to suffer right along with them. Hang tough, and take cover.

by Anonymousreply 449April 10, 2019 5:33 PM

My uncle died. He was a smoker. For years. Ever since he turned 14. He was 58 when he died. For years he heard that smoking causes cancer and other lung related diseases and that it would kill you. But he said his favorite moment was lighting that cigarette, inhaling, and then blowing the smoke out. He knew in theory, it was bad for him. He knew it might cause terminal cancer. But there was another part of him that refused to correlate the lighting up, inhaling and blowing smoke, with Cancer.

What's my point? The Trump supporters. They refuse to correlate their troubles with Trump. They "like" Trump. They feel at some point he'll "fix things. It'll be OK." But the chaos he is inflicting, the higher taxes, economic insecurity, higher prescription drug costs, the toxic environmental policies etc. they refuse to see these as a result of what Trump has done, or the Republican policies.

In fact, they separate Trump from the other Republicans. They feel like he needs protecting. I'm serious. If something bad happened it's because someone else let him down. He is never responsible. So no, I'm not going to waste anymore time giving these people benefit of the doubt. IF they have a change of heart and come to their senses, fine, but absent them having an epiphany, there is absolutely nothing I can do for them. They have the cancer and it's going to kill them. I just hope it doesn't take us along with them.

by Anonymousreply 450April 10, 2019 5:46 PM

IF (and that's a big IF) Trump does get reelected will the public declare defeat and let the Democratic Party do damage control for four more years, or will that finally make some people revolt?

The way Barr acts, and clearly does everything he can to cover for Trump and the GOP, is too infuriating for words for me.

by Anonymousreply 451April 10, 2019 5:54 PM

Has anyone else been getting bombarded with friend requests lately? I have but luckily I keep my FB page private and with very few people invited.

by Anonymousreply 452April 10, 2019 6:02 PM
spying did occur

It's called an FBI counterintelligence investigation. And it's hardly news that it occurred - as it fucking should have.

Is Miss Lindz going to be investigated now for advising McCain to give the dossier to the FBI?

by Anonymousreply 453April 10, 2019 6:07 PM

Why doesn't the FBI or CIA retaliate? Do they just roll over and let Trump and his minions destroy them? Are they all blindly loyal to Trump and the GOP? If yes, why bother to destroy them in the first place if they will not turn on Trump and reveal him being a Putin asset and the GOP being in on it?

by Anonymousreply 454April 10, 2019 6:15 PM

So what is Barr getting out of doing trumps bidding? Money? Glory? Is he hoping to get on the supreme court?

I don't understand why Barr wants to get this taint on him. Not that he had a clean rep becore but his misdeeds didnt color his current existence..

by Anonymousreply 455April 10, 2019 6:15 PM

I'm getting whiffs of Cheney whenever I look at and listen to Barr. His smugness and "I know you know what I'm doing and I don't give a fuck" aura just reeks out of him. This man needs to be taken down and fast.

by Anonymousreply 456April 10, 2019 6:15 PM

Again, why is no one in the media putting a spotlight on Barr’s son-in-law who works IN THE WHITE HOUSE?

by Anonymousreply 457April 10, 2019 6:22 PM

The media isn't interested in investigative journalism. That's thankless work nowadays. They prefer dissecting Trump tweets, sensational stories, and touchy-feely accusations.

by Anonymousreply 458April 10, 2019 6:51 PM

Barr has two relatives in the administration. Nepotism is condoned and practiced with Trump, i.e. Ivanka and Jared.

It's the kind of stuff Kim Davis did in her former county job.

by Anonymousreply 459April 10, 2019 6:57 PM

I think that most Republicans don't care about the "taint" because they see it has no effect on the Orange one and they know they could never win a national election fairly. It will get even more difficult as their constituency ages and dies off. So "the law and ethics be damned, at least we are getting our policies rammed through" seems to be the attitude of most of them. .

Or perhaps mother Russia has Kompromat on Barr, too. I can definitely see that - this is the game they are playing.

Former FBI Special Agent Asha Rangappa:

To recap: Barr is opening an investigation into whether the FBI opened an investigation with no evidence based on no evidence that the FBI actually did anything wrong. Is...is that right?

by Anonymousreply 464April 10, 2019 8:40 PM

Here's my thought. The FBI isn't going to let Barr smear them nor is Mueller's team. BUT they're not going to do anything until Barr releases his redacted version. They are going to give him enough rope to hang himself. If they leak the report now, then Barr won't release his redacted version. They want to see just how badly Barr redacts the report and then they will leak parts that show just how much Barr has tried to obstruct the real truth from coming out.

by Anonymousreply 465April 10, 2019 8:44 PM

Mueller is working with Barr on the redactions

Barr is working with Trump's attorneys and Miss Lindzay on redactions. That's been stated or very much implied. As to Barr working on the redactions, Mueller and his team had already prepared redacted summaries, and Barr refused to show them with his letter.

Don't put faith in anything Barr does. He's the "fixer" for Trump and cohorts.

by Anonymousreply 476April 10, 2019 10:17 PM

isn't what they're doing illegal? It ought to be. I would re write the Special Counsel Law to make it illegal to alter his report in any way. And I would require it be sent to the appropriate committees of Congress, submitted at the same time the AG gets it. Barr, Trump,Graham and Trump's attorneys all know this report will provide the legitimate basis to start drafting articles of impeachment.

by Anonymousreply 478April 10, 2019 10:29 PM

Two weeks ago I asked the office of a Representative on the House Judiciary Committee when the Committee would receive the report, and if it was legally required to submit to the Judiciary Committee a copy of the report that taxpayers paid for upon the Committee's request. I have not yet heard back.

by Anonymousreply 484April 10, 2019 10:38 PM

When Barr said he thought there was "spying" on the Trump campaign, is he talking about investigations that were started using the FISA warrant?

Because if that's the case, why couldn't the Democrats flat out ask him, "Oh, so you think the judge that issued the FISA warrant is...corrupt...or acted illegally...?" Because I'm sure a sitting judge would love to respond to that.

by Anonymousreply 485April 10, 2019 10:46 PM

The dems need to start hammering the fact that they represent the people and have security clearance so they can see classified material to protect the best interests of the people. The House of Representatives is representing the people. Government is for and by the PEOPLE. They all work for the people and Barr is the people's Attorney General. If he understands differently, he should let them know.

Not aggressive enough, not intimidating or menacing. I want them to go for the jugular and ask the obvious questions we ask right here and I rarely see it. Nothing happens. It's like they're fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. Or as an old boxer used to say, going through the motions but they 've got "no fist in their glove."

On today's deadline for Trump's tax returns, Mnuchin says no... big surprise
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday that the department will not be able to finish its review of Democrats' request for President Trump's tax returns by Wednesday -- the deadline that Democrats had given the IRS to provide the documents.
"The [Ways and Means] Committee requests the materials by April 10, but the Treasury Department will not be able to complete its review of your request by that date," Mnuchin said in a letter to committee chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.).

Unbelievable. What do you do when these people willfully break the law? In front of your face? I hope they’re all dragged before the House and thrown in jail until they comply.

by Anonymousreply 491April 10, 2019 11:12 PM

R491, that’s what I want to know. I don’t think that citing laws and regulations is scaring Republicans. Can we learn to play dirty? It’s so exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 492April 10, 2019 11:19 PM
So much for that rough and tough new state AG they voted in over there.

*sigh*

In the name of maintaining accuracy here, Letitia James is the AG of New York State. SDNY is Federal court.

And as we've seen with Mueller's grand jury, the court system is generally quite slow.

NYS is moving forward with state charges; it's going to take a bit of time to get all their ducks in a row.

SDNY picked up quite a few of Mueller's investigations; they're moving fairly quickly in legal terms.

by Anonymousreply 497April 10, 2019 11:26 PM

How the fuck did Barr get away with TELLING the House committee today that he was not going to do something? He just fucking got in their faces and told them. And there was no push back? WTF?

by Anonymousreply 498April 10, 2019 11:28 PM

He was asked on what basis did he make a determination that Trump did not obstruct justice? He said, "I'm not going to get into that with you and discuss how I arrived at that decision...." I was just stunned.

NYT: Treasury Declines House Request for Trump’s Tax Returns

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 500April 10, 2019 11:30 PM

Shocking!

by Anonymousreply 501April 10, 2019 11:31 PM

Treasury is stalling. THey colluded with the office of the WH Counsel (Barr's son in law) even before this request was made. They anticipated it. Trump probably told them to make sure they were ready for it right after the Dems won the House.

by Anonymousreply 502April 10, 2019 11:35 PM

R502, and what are Dems going to do about it?

by Anonymousreply 503April 10, 2019 11:47 PM

There's something almost poetic about the IRS breaking federal law five days before federal taxes are due.

by Anonymousreply 504April 10, 2019 11:50 PM
The House needs to just initiate impeachment proceedings and get ahold of the full, unredacted report that way. I’m getting really sick of this bullshit.

Does anyone know if there is any time table involved in impeachment proceedings? Could the Democrats open an impeachment investigation and just keep it officially open for the next two years without actually impeaching?

Also, this crap from Barr about people "spying" on Trump is only to shape the narrative. He's not going to do anything and it will go nowhere but it will now be endlessly discussed, without merit. They are running a reelection campaign now, not a country (as if they ever were). Everything is just to be sensational now. There will be no investigation into "spying". Barr is playing political games, just like he did with Iran Contra and all the other criminal conspiracies in which he played the role of fixer. He isn't Trump's Roy Cohn. He's Trump's new Michael Cohen. Let's hope it ends up the same way.

by Anonymousreply 505April 11, 2019 12:04 AM

Absolutely agree, R505, this is the opening act in their campaign circus.

by Anonymousreply 512April 11, 2019 12:29 AM

“WASHINGTON — Lawyers for Gregory B. Craig, a White House counsel in the Obama administration, expect him to be indicted in the coming days on charges related to his work for the Russia-aligned government of Ukraine.

The case against Mr. Craig, 74, stemmed from an investigation initiated by the office of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III.

An Ivy League-educated lawyer who held prominent positions in the Clinton and Obama administrations, Mr. Craig would become the first person associated with the Democratic Party to be charged in a case linked to the special counsel’s investigation.

Mr. Craig would also become the first person to be charged in a case linked to the special counsel after Mr. Mueller finished his investigation into the 2016 presidential election. In a summary of the inquiry, Attorney General William P. Barr said that the special counsel’s team had concluded that there was no evidence that President Trump or his aides “conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.

by Anonymousreply 513April 11, 2019 12:31 AM

They are waiting to bring Mueller in until they have gotten the report from Barr. It would be stupid to bring him in before they've seen anything, redacted or not. I also wouldn't put too much hope that Mueller will be all that forthcoming. Not because he's covering for anything like Barr is but because he wouldn't see it as his place to say certain things. I'm imagining a lot of "You'll have to ask the DoJ about that." or "That was outside the scope of my responsibility and stated duties. You'll have to talk to AG Barr." or "References to that have been determined to be unable to be discussed by the AG." He's a boy scout.

by Anonymousreply 514April 11, 2019 12:33 AM
R485: When Barr said he thought there was "spying" on the Trump campaign, I think he is talking about the same thing as when Trump declare that “Obama tapped his wires”. That’s been investigated and dismissed.

In the US, we investigate crimes, not people, but Trump has that backwards, demanding that Hillary, Comey, Obama, Mueller, and others be investigated. If he does cite a “crime”, it’s often one that lacks any evidence at all, such as his complaint about Obama tapping his wires. It’s just baseless accusations.

The President should be ignored!

by Anonymousreply 515April 11, 2019 12:33 AM

R514 There are other members of Mueller Teams the House can interview. It's not like the investigation was a solo effort.

by Anonymousreply 516April 11, 2019 12:34 AM

Thanks, r513. I thought it had something to do with Barr's idiocy today. I’m ridiculously edgy today. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 517April 11, 2019 12:35 AM

IRS said NO to releasing Trump's tax returns...Everyone, even the IRS, are protecting the Orange fuck.

by Anonymousreply 518April 11, 2019 12:35 AM

So, this Obama White House guy getting indicted...Million to one that this was someone Mueller refused to prosecute but who was mentioned in the report and now Barr is indicting him while letting all the Trump criminals live under their redactions.

by Anonymousreply 519April 11, 2019 12:37 AM

Isn't anyone here curious as to Mueller's complete about-face regarding the Investigation- not only in terms of the *Conclusion* of the Report, which we can only guess at now, but the real prosecuteorial zeal he was showing in going after Manafort, other investigations that he was continuing to work on- and then all of a sudden- *poof*. I know many here are crestfallen, and trully dismayed at the potential of Mueller stringing us along the Whole time, but what if it was a case where we have seen in other cases, such as with Stormy Daniels and Cohen, who both claimed that thrir very lives and those of loved ones were threatened. What if in fact this same scenario played out with Mueller, and he suddenly ( and drastically) had to pull back? He would then have had to depart in haste, to leave those still standing to do the best they could. It makes as much sense as anything else in this horrific house of cards...

by Anonymousreply 520April 11, 2019 1:05 AM

I don't think that Mueller was stringing anyone along because it wouldn't make sense. If he wanted to do that he would have just concluded the investigation six months after the fact and claimed there was nothing to see.

I do believe that things ended abruptly, probably because Barr pulled the plug, and they couldn't gather the 100,000,000 pieces of evidence these criminals fucking committed.

by Anonymousreply 521April 11, 2019 1:10 AM

R520 Yes, it's obvious that Barr obstructed Mueller's team and prematurely ended the investigation! Barr is turning the DOJ into Department of Trump Justice. If he is not stopped, he will be going after Trump's enemies soon enough. These are desperate cornered rats. There is nothing too low for them.

by Anonymousreply 522April 11, 2019 1:11 AM

I agree with R520. Even a tough guy like Mueller can fold when his wife and daughters are threatened.

by Anonymousreply 523April 11, 2019 1:14 AM

I think Mueller's people are going to fight back. I won't be surprised if somehow that unredacted reports, or parts of it find their way into the hands of a very select few members of Congress. Democrats. Pelosi, Schumer, and a couple more.

On and a report compiled in March 2019, by the DHS and the FBI, confirms that the Russians actively successfully hacked all 50 states not 21 or 37 as was previously indicated. All of them. Rachel has it.

by Anonymousreply 524April 11, 2019 1:17 AM

There's no doubt in my mind that Barr put a stop to the Mueller investigation as soon as he could without having it look TOO blatantly obvious (as opposed to just... obvious). The only thing surprises me is that Barr doesn't just right and admit it.

by Anonymousreply 525April 11, 2019 1:31 AM

As many have already pointed out in this thread, his followers will follow him to the bitter end, like lemmings off the cliff. Their utter hatred and racism born and festering during the Obama years, has made them blind to any rational thought or objective criticsm of their Orange Master. It will only be when things are SO BAD e.g. Trump andcthe Republicans have cut Medicaid, Medicare, 10 more Auto plants have closed, and the $$$ has dried up for those Tariff- generated Farming subsidies. That's when all these Morons will finally get a clue and start saying, "But what about MOI?"

I would laugh, but we're going to have to suffer along with the rest of them.

Trump’s sister retires from the federal judiciary to avoid ethics investigation into her taxes

On Wednesday, The New York Times reported that Maryanne Trump Barry, President Donald Trump’s older sister, is retiring as a federal judge. Trump Barry, who sits on the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, was hit with a misconduct complaint last October, stemming from a report that the Trump family used fraudulent tax schemes to increase their inheritance. Retiring from the bench ends that investigation.

by Anonymousreply 527April 11, 2019 2:03 AM

Is that how it works? I can rob a bank and just retire to avoid prosecution?

by Anonymousreply 528April 11, 2019 2:12 AM

Every single day I pray to God that Michael Cohen or someone else has Trump on tape. In my fantasy he's talking about Putin, Russia, and all the money they're pouring in to him becoming President and how he wants Manafort to handle it, etc. I hear him admit it, hear his voice admit to treason.

In my dream scenario, there are other tapes where he talks about his deals with China, Russia, and the Saudis. I want him to say "Fuck Congress they're all morons. " I want him to mock and ridicule Nunes, Ryan, and MCConnell.

Then, and this is fantasy of course, Public opinion will require many in Congress to rethink their position of protecting him. McConnell may not be able to contain his caucus because he will get desertions. I know. But we need a fucking break soon.

by Anonymousreply 529April 11, 2019 2:13 AM

Per the NYT:

President Trump’s older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, has retired as a federal appellate judge, ending an investigation into whether she violated judicial conduct rules by participating in fraudulent tax schemes with her siblings.

The court inquiry stemmed from complaints filed last October, after an investigation by The New York Times found that the Trumps had engaged in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud, that greatly increased the inherited wealth of Mr. Trump and his siblings. Judge Barry not only benefited financially from most of those tax schemes, The Times found; she was also in a position to influence the actions taken by her family.

Judge Barry, now 82, has not heard cases in more than two years but was still listed as an inactive senior judge, one step short of full retirement. In a letter dated Feb. 1, a court official notified the four individuals who had filed the complaints that the investigation was “receiving the full attention” of a judicial conduct council. Ten days later, Judge Barry filed her retirement papers... In retirement, Judge Barry is entitled to receive annually the salary she earned when she last met certain workload requirements. Ten days later, Judge Barry filed her retirement papers.

^^^ In retirement, Judge Barry is entitled to receive annually the salary she earned when she last met certain workload requirements. Though the exact figure was not immediately available, it appears to be between $184,500 and $217,600.

by Anonymousreply 531April 11, 2019 2:31 AM
"Fuck Congress they're all morons. " I want him to mock and ridicule Nunes, Ryan, and MCConnell.

He can mock them all to their faces and they would still lick his taint, support, and vote for him. Trust me, I know.

by Anonymousreply 533April 11, 2019 2:33 AM

it's not a question of who Trump wants to mock. who do we want to mock? There are definitely some Congresscritters that every prominent Democrat should be mocking constantly: Devin Nunes, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, Ted Cruz, and many others. Constantly ask why they are whores and slaves for Trump. Constantly ask why they think that the President of the United States should be Putin's buttboy. We really have to learn the high arts of personal destruction, which we once knew so well.

by Anonymousreply 534April 11, 2019 2:45 AM

The Trump inheritance scam happened between 1999 and 2006, so the statute of limitations may have run out by now.

Just wow. I am the Former Congressional Intern and Barr's behavior is jaw-dropping as is the response, or lack of, from the GOP. The rule of law is dead. That being dead, so is our republic.

I do not think we are there, yet. I am holding out hope a few in our institutions and congress expose this. They will. They have to. They know the stakes.

This is a stark reminder to VOTE! Vote for the right team, even if that team is not perfect. If the difference in the parties is not clear now, you are blind as a bat in a solar flare.

by Anonymousreply 540April 11, 2019 3:10 AM

I've given up. Every day it's "I don't understand people" or "i don't understand Americans" or "do you think the people who didn't vote in 2016 and 2018 are laughing their asses off?" or "is this the government tyranny the authors of the Second Amendment meant, or are modern-day Americans now interpreting government tyranny as students and people who happened by when the gun-toter had blacked out or flipped his wig?"

Better I use the apathy or misplaced bile from Americans who didn't vote Democratic because they didn't see anything wrong about Trump (my compatriots sure did; d'you think it was because we don't have FOX News?) to mobilize me to get my house up for sale.

"Show us the tax returns!"

"No can do."

"Show us the whole report that took two years of investigation and yielded terabytes of data."

"Maybe I don't wanna."

"I don't got time for this Congressional testimony crap. I have a foreign dignitary in my office waiting for me. I'll be twenty minutes late! I'll miss out on fruit cup!"

Go talk to a nonvoter. You can tell them by their bandaged knuckles from dragging them on the pavement, or by the frostbite on their noses from being so high up in the rarefied air of the mesosphere. Ask them if they're happy they didn't cast a vote.

by Anonymousreply 541April 11, 2019 3:11 AM

there's actually no statute of limitations in the Court of Public Opinion. Why don't Democrats actually use that shit? One thing to remember about Barr before congress the past two days. He was before the Appropriations Committee in both the House and Senate. He wasn't in front of the Judicial Committee. The Judicial Committee has folks like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar who will be looking to hit hard and score points. I so want to see Kamala go after Barr. He will be weeping like a fat baby.

by Anonymousreply 574April 11, 2019 5:21 AM
I so want to see Kamala go after Barr. He will be weeping like a fat baby.

*Schiff is House Intelligence. Sorry it's late.

by Anonymousreply 581April 11, 2019 5:34 AM

by Anonymousreply 582April 11, 2019 5:36 AM

I don't think that will work when they ask him how/why he decided to exonerate Trump on Obstruction in less than 48 hours when Mueller couldn't do in two years. Buba has some 'plaining to do. He may classify the whole thing and tell the committees to take a hike. He also has to rule now on Trump's Tax Returns. Treasury sent letter today saying no and they would be consulting with DOJ on what the law is. We'll see just how corrupt he is when he interprets "shall provide" in any way other than "shall provide."

by Anonymousreply 583April 11, 2019 5:40 AM

He'll probably just answer by saying, "I don't have to tell you anything. Suck it."

by Anonymousreply 584April 11, 2019 5:45 AM

How else can we explain how they are opening , boldly committing these crimes?

Because they know the fix is in.

by Anonymousreply 586April 11, 2019 5:46 AM

R583, the fucker Barr will just say that the law about turning over tax returns doesn't apply to the president. You know, just like all the other laws.

The Repugs are still acting too arrogant. Like they know nothing is ever going to happen to them. Russia already tell them how they're rigging 2020?

by Anonymousreply 587April 11, 2019 5:47 AM

I just can't believe it. And now they are indicting Dems.

America is dead.

by Anonymousreply 589April 11, 2019 5:47 AM

R587 of course they know it's going to be rigged again.

Why else wouldn't they vote to actually secure our voting system? How in any world, does it make sense to vote against that?

And again, Drumpf was out there saying he was going to win CA. You know he said it because they probably told him that's what they're going to do.

Did you guys hear about that fat, closeted drunk Matt Gaetz filing a bill called the “PENCIL Act”? Preventing Extreme Negligence with Classified Information Licenses Act designed to force the removal of Adam Schiff (and clearly invoking Trump’s “pencil-neck” taunt).
