Blackhead removal advice

I have a series of blackheads on my nose, can I please have your suggestions about what I can do to remove them or what affordable products I could use?

Also, what can be done to close open, noticeable pores?

Please, no suggestions of fire or knives.

by Anonymousreply 56April 3, 2019 7:27 AM

Retin-A and Adapalene do work on blackheads. IIRC, Adapalene is now available OTC.

You can also use a washcloth with very hot water on the blackhead area, then try to squeeze them out, but that sometimes causes infections. The medication route is usually safer.

by Anonymousreply 1March 30, 2019 9:03 PM

Combo of salicylic acid and one of the AHAs (lactic, glycolic...) is the best way as they each clear the space for the other to work better. Use an astringent toner/serum/cream afterwards to minimize large pores. You can also splurge on nose strips if you need an immediate boost.

There's really no quick fix for blackheads that would prevent them from forming again within days (not even the strips), but using the above daily will improve the condition in the long run and you'll notice fewer and fewer of them after a while.

by Anonymousreply 2March 30, 2019 9:05 PM

You can not close up pores permanently, all you can do is ice for a few minutes but it only temporary. They will get bigger over time and no magic cream exists to help them. FYI if you drink a lot, like every week, expect them to get even bigger. One trait of an alcoholic is a cauliflower nose. Are you a lush OP?

by Anonymousreply 3March 30, 2019 9:05 PM

Please don't go immediately to Retin-A as it can have some adverse effects in the body when it comes to Vitamin A absorption. Stick to acids, which work just as well. If you can't help yourself, go with retinol instead.

by Anonymousreply 4March 30, 2019 9:07 PM

What R3 said about pores. There are only temporary solutions, but don't make them worse by using those biore strips which only stretches out those pores.

by Anonymousreply 5March 30, 2019 9:07 PM

[quote]Please don't go immediately to Retin-A as it can have some adverse effects in the body when it comes to Vitamin A absorption.

What do you mean? Vit. A will not absorb in your body or the Vit. A in retin a affects your body?

by Anonymousreply 6March 30, 2019 9:10 PM

Drinking lots of water helps flush out pores. Also, it's kind of weird, but if you have a bobby pin, you can use the U-shaped end to help put pressure on pores to pull out blackheads. Just sterlize first and don't use too much pressure to break or tear the skin.

by Anonymousreply 7March 30, 2019 9:10 PM

And if it's the latter, what is it doing in your body?

by Anonymousreply 8March 30, 2019 9:10 PM

Witch hazel is traditionally used to tighten pores. It's a natural product so it shouldn't have any adverse effects. Rose water is a good toner and has antioxidant properties.

by Anonymousreply 9March 30, 2019 9:13 PM

How, when should I use toner?

by Anonymousreply 10March 30, 2019 9:16 PM

R6, anything topical is absorbed into your body, through your skin.

btw, salicylic acid is very drying. It's usually in skin cleansers for acne prone skin. If you are going to try it, make sure to not use it in any areas where you might be worried about wrinkles.

by Anonymousreply 11March 30, 2019 9:22 PM

You rang?

by Anonymousreply 12March 30, 2019 9:23 PM

If you are broke, duct tape makes a cheap way of removing blackheads. It really works, just be genital when you pull it off your nose. Dont rip.

by Anonymousreply 13March 30, 2019 9:23 PM

Use it after washing and before applying any product to your face. It should help to remove dirt/excess oil. Or use it in conjunction with the witch hazel, as here.

Sorry, that should be use rosewater after washing, etc.

by Anonymousreply 15March 30, 2019 9:27 PM

Charcoal mask will do a good job addressing most of it

by Anonymousreply 16March 30, 2019 9:33 PM

My dermatologist used a laser and zapped em off

by Anonymousreply 17March 30, 2019 9:37 PM

R23, should OP be a penis or a vagina while being “genital”? Which one is more effective for blackheads?

by Anonymousreply 18March 30, 2019 10:11 PM

Go get a facial. Not only is it great for blackheads but it is incredibly relaxing.

by Anonymousreply 19March 30, 2019 10:14 PM

Brushing your nose with toothpaste works if they're small. Try it for a week while showering. Use a toothbrush and lightly scrub for say 20 seconds. The large kind need to be squeezed out which is best to do in hot and humid conditions.

by Anonymousreply 20March 30, 2019 10:26 PM

My bedroom smells like shit and I can’t figure out how.

by Anonymousreply 21March 30, 2019 11:11 PM

R17 what type of laser?

I'm sure you'd know better anyone about this

by Anonymousreply 24March 30, 2019 11:25 PM

I’ve got one of those instruments. Love it.

by Anonymousreply 25March 30, 2019 11:25 PM

OMG, WTF kind of blackhead is that @ R23!

Reminds me of the decades old blackhead Dr. Pimple Popper pulled out of a woman's face near her ear, the woman needed stitches! The blackhead was 55 years old.

R23

What's the name of that skin tool? It took care of all those blackheads.

by Anonymousreply 27March 31, 2019 5:50 AM

R26 "It's really nice to meet you"......WTF accent is that?

by Anonymousreply 28March 31, 2019 7:03 AM

Electric sander

by Anonymousreply 29March 31, 2019 8:12 AM

Exfoliating tonic, used daily after washing but before applying moisturiser. Clinique do an oil-control version, which I’ve been using for years.

Which is why, in the grand DL tradition, despite being in my mid-30s I clearly don’t look a day over 21.

by Anonymousreply 30March 31, 2019 8:23 AM

OP - before anything wash your nose with warm wash cloth to remove all the harden gunk on it.

Then take a look at your nose and start squeezing them out with your fingers. Start with the biggest ones. If some don't come out right away, leave them alone. Your nose should be 50% better. ---------------------------------------------------------- Upkeep

Wash your face 3X a day with facial cleanser for oily skin.

After cleansing, take witch hazel (or Sea Breeze) and spread over your face to temporarily tighten the pores.

Apply a 2% BHA product on your skin, concentrating on the nose.

Once a week, use a clay or charcoal mask to pull out more blackheads.

It will clear up.

by Anonymousreply 31March 31, 2019 8:46 AM

R27 you’re looking for a “comedone extractor”. Applies pressure more evenly with less skin damage than trying to squeeze them with your fingertips/fingernails.

"anything topical is absorbed into your body, through your skin."

Untrue. The molecules must be small enough to pass through, and not everything has small enough molecules. That is why some skin care products are ineffective.

by Anonymousreply 33March 31, 2019 9:07 AM

One of the many things I miss as I'm older is I don't get pimples or blackheads. Really used to enjoy popping them.

by Anonymousreply 34March 31, 2019 9:08 AM

I use Effaclar products from La Roche Posay, the wash twice a day and also when I see a blackheads and breakouts forming Effaclar K, you just need a small amount, and you rub on the area, it will remove the dead skin and help clear the skin. Avoid removing the blackheads by yourself, you will end up with scars, better leave it to a dermatologist, or get a facial in a spa once a month, the girls have the tools and the know how.

by Anonymousreply 35March 31, 2019 9:11 AM

Thsbk you everyone who's posted so far, it's been useful and I'm making some purchases

by Anonymousreply 36March 31, 2019 9:27 AM

This type of device works really good, in my opinion.

Really? Tell that to all the men and women using Rogaine. If minoxidil is not absorbed through the scalp pores, then explain how it works?

by Anonymousreply 38March 31, 2019 9:06 PM

It's all well and good getting rid of disgusting blackheads, yet the enlarged pore/hole where the blackhead was will remain.

by Anonymousreply 39March 31, 2019 9:07 PM

R38, did he say that NO topical products are absorbed through the skin? Read again, dear.

by Anonymousreply 40March 31, 2019 9:09 PM

Keep in mind, you may actually be looking at sebaceous filaments, not blackheads, on your nose. Sebaceous filaments are much harder to get rid of, and they may never go away.

by Anonymousreply 41March 31, 2019 9:23 PM

OP, something I have found very good for black head removal on my nose, is my sonic toothbrush.

I just used one of the older toothbrushes instead of a newer one and a little soap. It really cleaned out the pores but of course that makes the pores look huge being relatively empty but I like the large pores better than the black heads showing.

About the pores, something I have done periodically but not enough is to put any strong package tape on my nose when it is clean, leave it sit for a few minutes and then pull it off. I have tried duct tape but it doesn't seem to work any better than just regular clear package tape. It takes the top layer of skin with it, I am hoping that eventually it takes off enough skin to make the pores smaller because they aren't that large down deep just on the surface but I haven't done it consistently enough to say whether it has worked or not.

by Anonymousreply 42March 31, 2019 10:06 PM

Oh fuck these pictures.

by Anonymousreply 43March 31, 2019 10:10 PM

My dermatologist used a laser machine in his office and blasted em off.

by Anonymousreply 44March 31, 2019 10:31 PM

[quote] One trait of an alcoholic is a cauliflower nose.

That's usually the result of untreated rosacea (which may exist alongside blackheads). Cauliflower nose is a classic symptom of long term, severe rosacea. For most people with rosacea, alcohol is a prime trigger of symptoms and aggravates them severely.

by Anonymousreply 45March 31, 2019 10:43 PM

Salicylic acid can be very effective but many people are allergic to it! Recommend you put a small amount on your inner arm and see you if get a reaction in a day or two. Believe me, if you are sensitive to it your face will look terrible for at least a week. And dermatologists and steroids are expensive!

by Anonymousreply 46March 31, 2019 10:56 PM

I've had good luck keeping the pores on my nose reduced by using Desert Essence tea tree cleanser, just on my nose and the immediate area though. It's too rough for the rest of my face. Really eliminated the blackheads on my nose.

by Anonymousreply 47March 31, 2019 11:03 PM

That thing at R23 is a carbuncle not a blackhead. It is like a massive pimple with a bunch of little heads instead of one really visible one. I had one on my chin once and the pus came out in little threads like that. Disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 48April 1, 2019 1:25 AM

This thread is making me horny.

Cut down on sugar and eat a lot of green vegetables. I went on a diet about a year ago with no sugar, and after about six weeks my skin was like glass. It cured everything, it was like taking antibiotics. I’m going back on it now.

by Anonymousreply 51April 3, 2019 6:15 AM

[quote]just be genital when you pull it off your nose.

Don’t be a dick and pull it off too fast, but don’t pussy out and pull it off too slowly.

by Anonymousreply 52April 3, 2019 6:21 AM

Don't use your fingers to pop anything on your face. Use two q-tips instead. There's a blackhead vacuum but I've never tried it.

by Anonymousreply 54April 3, 2019 6:35 AM

Is he 18 yet?

by Anonymousreply 55April 3, 2019 6:44 AM

Grandma (and grandson presumably) are from London Ontario, at least he’s not trying to look like hometown celebrity Bieber.
