So only Republican Senators can see the report? No democratic senators? Why can’t they meet with Barr.
Graham wants to redact the part about him recommending the dossier go to the FBI?

I am so freaking tired of 2 years of endless mindfucks, courtesy of Trump & Co. When will this end? And is there ONE decent Republican who will stand up against this traitor?

George and Kellyanne are building their brand for their inevitable book and FoxNews show.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 26, 2019 11:49 PM |
Ignore Conway. What a useless person who is one of the last people who should be talking. I'd even bet he's paid to pretend to be bothered. He still sleeps next to the female version of the person he claims to hate. Think about it. He's married to one of the most horrible people in American history.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 27, 2019 12:20 AM |
George is helping stack our courts with right-wing cranks and Trump lackeys. He himself is one of the worst people this country has ever produced.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 27, 2019 12:41 AM |
To the poster in the last thread asking about claims the White House will see the report before it's made public---Lindsey told reporters he expected Barr to let the White House see the report so they could decide whether to claim executive privilege on some things and therefore scrub them out. Barr then told NBC of course he wasn't going to do that. He is working on releasing a version of the report.
Any press or Republican saying Barr is "releasing the report" is not being accurate. His plan is to release portions of the report with his own report about the Mueller report, and anyone who believes the White House hasn't already seen the Mueller report is a fool.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 27, 2019 12:52 AM |
Haven't there been a few leakers in the WH? Not just that "anonymous" OP-ED, but leakers who gave out really good information? Maybe we won't even have to wait for a scrubbed version of the report if any of those leakers can get their hands on it.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 27, 2019 1:04 AM |
Today Trump praised Barr for working fast.
That's a very interesting statement considering Trump toad Matt Schlapp tweeted this on Feb 14: "Tomorrow will be the first day that President Trump will have a fully operational confirmed Attorney General. Let that sink in. Mueller will be gone soon."
I might be ready to jump on the Barr shut down Mueller early train.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 27, 2019 1:13 AM |
These morons are aware all their misdeeds will be revealed sooner or later. There is only so much corruption the executive branch can take before someone rats them all out one way or another. We don't have Putin/Saudi-eque secret police to silent people or journalists. Yet.

Nancy Pelosi had some choice words about Barr today.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 27, 2019 1:33 AM |
Looks like Barr and Graham are doing the real obstructing now. Turn that fucking report over to Congress now, with neither of your dirty figerprints on it.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 27, 2019 1:40 AM |
fingerprints^
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 27, 2019 1:42 AM |
Why isn't there an objection to Graham participating in the redaction?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 27, 2019 1:44 AM |
I don't think we know Graham would be participating. He told reporters Barr was preparing to release his verion of the report and Graham said the White House would want to go through it first in case they wanted to remove anything citing executive privilege.
This sort of gave the game away, so Barr rang up somebody at NBC to say of course he would never let the White House do something like that.
I'm tellin' ya...just let these guys keep talking and talking.

In the last thread, R590 wrote:
[quote] I'm curious if the report reveals that they didn't have ENOUGH evidence YET and needed to continue the investigation to gather everything and because Barr pulled it, the report, according to Barr, couldn't produce enough to meet Barr's definition of a crime.
You are in good company. A very senior federal prosecutor -- someone who worked with Mueller decades ago -- asked me the same question a few hours ago when we were discussing the report. He thinks Mueller wrote that he did not have ENOUGH evidence to charge conspiracy because everyone stonewalled. Barr then turned that into "no evidence." But, Barr couldn't get away with that same nonsensical trick with obstruction, so he weasel-worded it into "cannot exonerate."
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 27, 2019 2:13 AM |
Report or no report, we all know that trump is a lying, cheating scumbag and will continue on that way.
Nothing is changed except now we're likely stuck with him for two more years and his behavior will get even worse. The lying scumbag is emboldened now and the idiocy and misdeeds will continue.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 27, 2019 2:20 AM |
R18, we thought the crimes of the Bush administration would eventually come back to haunt them, but here we are all these years later and nothing. I'm not a big believer in the karmic justice of history.

Do they all seriously think they’re going to get away with all this shit? The entire cover-up is so obvious and shoddy. What’s next? They’re going to off Mueller so he can’t testify in front of Congress?

by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 27, 2019 3:28 AM |
OK so what should they ask Mueller?
Were you given the opportunity to complete your mission?
Was Barr’s summary accurate?
Did they interfere?
What else?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 27, 2019 3:34 AM |
I wouldn't waste much of his time asking about Barr's memo. We all know it was a stonewall. They should have him get into the meat of what evidence he had re collusion/conspiracy and obstruction; what he knew or found out re Jr, Ivanka and Kush, what cases he farmed out and how far along they were (if he's able to discuss that without endangering or affecting them).
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 27, 2019 3:37 AM |

The programmer who was subpoenaed to testify about what really went on in the Bush/Kerry election died when the plane he was piloting crashed. He was warned at least twice about flying his plane because of possible sabotage. Anything is possible when dealing with the GOP.

R27 Bush while dumb as a rock, at least doesn't incriminate himself with his big fat mouth at every turn like the Dotard. How long can you keep protecting someone who is uncontrollably stupid and a pathological liar? Actually, the GOP's best hope for sweeping all this under the rug is for the Dotard to stroke out in office!

In hindsight, media should have done a better job at explaining the exact actions that would prove criminal collusion. It was news to me that Mueller only looked at two possibllities: hacking or social media influence. What about coordination, flat out corruption or blackmail? This is why the report is being blocked IMHO. As for obstruction, that is a no brainer.

Venezuela is going to be Trump's Waterloo. He's had next to no real challenges in his two years, except crap he's brought upon himself. Russia is moving troops to V. to support Maduro, while Trump is set on overthrowing him. Guess how that's going to play out? If he makes Putin mad he'll release the kompromat he's compiled on Trump.

Once they are able to review it, yes. It may also be news to them that some investigations are ongoing. Creating a secret report on the Presdent is antiethical to justice.

I already warned people NOT to put much faith in the Meuller Report. Too much was built around it. I still don't understand the concept of Friday Indictments or "Fuckery Fridays". It just was always meant to simply be a REPORT that would be handed to the AG. THat AG has been Bill Barr for a while. He was placed there ON PURPOSE! We knew all of this. I don't know why the Dems or us on DL or Pelosi are acting all surprised. If NP knew what to do, Mueller would already by testifying. This action would halt any Dump bragging and circumvented the fake repeal of ACA.
Alas, once again, we are left pissing in the wind. Don't say y'all haven't been warned. I pointed this out a long time ago and was called a Chicken Little. F.U. Whoever said that!

R51, I don’t know if Barr shut it down, since the investigation is funded through September. But Barr could have asked for the report to be done by a specific date, so at least it looks like the entire investigation was shut down.
Mueller is back at work this week.

I read some where that Mueller and the DOJ had many discussions about subpoenaing Trump to testify. Barr reported that the Special Counsel had not had any requests turned down. It sounds like Mueller wanted to subpoena Trump but was highly discouraged but apparently he didn't formally request it because he knew they would say no. Lots to see in this report.

A new biography of former First Lady Barbara Bush details her deep and prolonged distrust of Donald Trump and her bewilderment at his unlikely rise to the White House.
She apparently had a Trump Countdown clock that displayed how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds remained in Trump’s term – and it stayed on her bedside table or next to whatever chair she was sitting in until the day she died.
The countdown to Trump insulting a dead woman commences ...

R60 Trump wouldn't refuse the subpoena. He would assert the Fifth Amendment to every question. Thus, making his testimony worthless. Asserting the Fifth Amendment would be political suicide for any other president but Trump could have probably gotten away with it because he's Trump and normal rules don't seem to apply to him. Clinton had to undergo hours of questioning regarding the BJ he got from Lewenski (Monica not Cory) including even details about inserting a cigar in her VeJaJa.

R67, Mueller does not seem like that type of person. He was making good money as a private attorney and he left the position for a low paid government job.
I don’t know if Mueller is a “good guy” here or not, but he’s not the kind of person who is motivated by money.

And then she handed it over to Clinton and his lawyers, so they could redact anything they didn't want the world to see?
Yeah, neither do I.

Something stinks about this latest ploy by Barr and Trump. Mueller is still working. He has an active grand jury investigation going on, he has issued subpoenas, and there are sealed indictments. And Rosenstein? WTF. McCabe said "he's a survivor." Now I'm getting a greater appreciation of that. Rosenstein bends which ever way the wind blows. I'm almost convinced Barr put pressure on Mueller and this "report" is not the end of it. Mueller may have been pressured to "give me something, and then you can go back to work. " Mueller did something very uncharacteristic according to Jim Comey, by not making a decision about Trump on obstruction. Comey also said Barr was "inappropriate" for inserting himself into the obstruction discussion and making a decision that rightfully belongs to Congress. SoBArr saying he wouldn't prosecute Trump is an opinion. It's not the final word. Rachel kickedass last night andBArbara McQuade andJoyceVanceare not backing down. I've said this before and I'll say this again: You are a genuinely stupid person if you think Trump is a "patriot." You are a genuinely stupid person if you think he wouldn't have sold secrets to the British during the Revolutionary War if he could make a "pound." He would've done business with the Bin Laden family on 9/11 while the site was still smoldering if he knew no one would find out. He attempted to do business in Cuba during the embargo. He has done business with the most loathsome mafia/mob types and has done so by skirting US law.
He has a short attention span and that's why he was never directly involved in meetings on his behalf. He lets others do the dirty work and he reaps the benefits. He has NO moral compass and no understanding of what sacrifice means. He's a dirtbag from Queens who learned to be a dirtbag at his father's knee. He is a damaged person in every way and if you worship him, you're fucking damaged, too. Even more so, because at least Trump only worships himself. And if your response is some nonsense about Hillary or Obama and "worshiping" them, then you only confirm how damaged you truly are. Fucking losers look at Trump and see him as anything other than the most repulsive type of person you could possibly be.

Barr says it went to him to decide....but if Mueller laid out both the positive and negative along with evidence, he obviously was making a case for congress to determine if impeachment was in order....remember, both Barr and Rosenstein were briefed all along....Mueller wouldnt have needed to lay out a case if he wanted Barr to decide....he would have just met with them and asked what he wanted to do. Mueller also said he WOULDNT reach a conclusion and laid out the evidence....meaning it wasnt up to him, it should be up to Congress if any actions needed to be taken.

This^^. These are the times that test one's mettle. They are going to have the fight of their life on their hands, because as this past weekend showed there is no way Trump, FBB (Fat Bob Barr) or ANY of the Repub minions are going to release any damaging info without going down with the ship if needed. Any details from the report will have to be literally pried from their cold dead hands.
The citizens need to weigh in as well. One of the biggest counterweights for this administration is public uproar. There need to be coordinated efforts to protest and peacefully march if necessary, to make a show that they can't play keepaway with this report or other details of wrongdoing.
My hope is Mueller will be called to testify and clarify some things. However I'm worried that Barr may be able to 'muzzle' him and keep him from saying much to Congress - does anyone know to what extent Barr can control his testimony?

I will keep harping on this until the day I die or until my Congressman gets so sick of hearing from me about it he either has me put away or answers me. MATT SCHLAPP, one of the worst Republicans to ever live, and that's saying something, whose wife works in the White House, tweeted on Feb 14 Mueller would soon be gone now that Barr had taken over. And he was. With seemingly a bunch of weird loose ends still dangling around.
And yesterday Trump thanks everyone who told him to hire Barr because boy...he DID work fast! What does that mean? Work fast how? Work fast on what?
I do not give one damn if Mueller had been wrapping up anyway. Somebody besides Ari Melber needs to question Schlapp. Haul his slimy fat ass into a hearing, put him under oath and question him about this. I don't care if that hearing only lasts five minutes.
And I don't care if he even was just guessing. He needs to answer for this. It looks like he knew Barr was going to stop the investigation. Put him under oath and make him prove otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | March 27, 2019 6:43 PM |

Knowing that Mueller can’t comment, they try to pull it off as the final report?

by Anonymous | reply 120 | March 27, 2019 6:47 PM |
Well clearly he knew that FBB was going to stop the investigation, we dont need hearings to get that confirmation. They will stonewall and not admit it anyway.
I'd rather that all energy at this point be marshaled toward getting a unredacted version of the Mueller report (and any other related reports or judicial details that are related to Trump investigations) into the hands of Congress, and then viewed by the public who paid for it.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | March 27, 2019 6:48 PM |

It would be karmic justice if Barr told Mueller to wrap it up, and Mueller, seeing it as an obstructive act decided to set a trap....he said, sure, turned in a half baked report and waited to see them spin it....thereby snaring not only Trump and his cabal, but Barr as well. One can only speculate, but the news today id that Muellers grand jury is still VERY active. Grand juries are there to indict....if Mueller was finished, he would disband the grand jury....his open court cases have no need for them.....so what are they pursuing ?

by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 27, 2019 9:19 PM |
Barr fucked Mueller over. Barr said Mueller acted "outrageously." He said there was no need for a special counsel. He said all of that in a 19 page memo unsolicited, that he used to "audition" for the AG's job. Bar is totally tainted.
The other night, someone on MSNBC said, that it was possible that Mueller, being "old school" fully subscribed to the notion that you cannot indict a sitting President. You indict someone when you have evidence they committed a crime. So for Mueller to conclude Trump was guilty of obstruction, or at least there was enough evidence to conclude he was guilty, would be comparable to indicting him.
Instead Mueller wanted Congress to act, so he simply presented the evidence of obstruction without drawing any conclusions. Barr overreached and took it on himself to decide Trump was not guilty. Which is pure bullshit. There's no doubt in my mind Barr's mission was to wrap the Mueller investigation. To shut it down, and, with Rosenstein's assistance, he did. I'm sitting here wondering if Barr can block Mueller from testifying about his investigation before Congress.
The fact that Mueller is still working speaks volumes. THis whole thing stinks. And it's not like Trump and his people would lie is it? LOL!
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 27, 2019 9:23 PM |
I think the media should tread carefully badgering for the full report.
It is possible we will see the full report come out and it will be a disappointment to the people expecting it.
And a win for Trump.
This could backfire again is all I am saying. Not that out media cares. They secretly want Trump re-elected.
Why not focus on the reduction of tax refunds for most middle class Americans and Trump trying to remove Obamacare? These are issues that will actually sway voters along with discussing how tarriffs are hurting American factory workers and farmers.People vote their pockets at the end of the day. We need to explain to the average layman that Trump means they are LOSING money. He is not good for our economy.
Russiagate is not the issue that can bring Trump to its knees. The former issues are.

It seems like either a deliberate or incredibly clumsy own goal for Judge Napalitano to have stated, repeatedly apparently, that the report is 700 pages long. For a couple of reasons too as pointed out above: a. how the fuck does he know this when no-one has stated its length and b. how did Barr summarize it so swiftly. Each new dribble of info seems to give more and more credence to this report not exonerating Trump in the way his supporters claim. I hope questions keeping being asked about how this Fox News judge came to have this info.

by Anonymous | reply 170 | March 27, 2019 11:12 PM |
Someone needs to leak it to a committee member....in a committee nobody gives two shits about....and a committee member needs to read it into the record....it will be unexpected, but effective. Youre on the right track r170, but i dont think Mueller would be permitted to do that....Barr is still his boss and Barr can silence him. Actually, there was a congressman many years ago that did exactly that....I dont remember the circumstance, but Maddow did a segment on it over a year ago.

[quote]Is there any reason, once Mueller is before The House or Congress or who ever, that he can’t just start reading, verbatim, his report??
If a member of the House gets it they can read it into the Congressional record. Much of the grand jury testimony is strictly confidential per rules of judicial procedure. They made exceptions for the grand jury testimony in Nixon's case. Sounds like somebody in Congress is going to have to break the law.

It has come to exactly this R172. Someone is going to have to risk jail time to save the Republic.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | March 27, 2019 11:39 PM |
Thats why Nadler cant fuck around with Barr. When Barr told him today that he wouldnt have the report by the 2nd, and that it would be partially redacted, he needed to file an immediate motion to the Supreme Court to force the reports entire release. the longer he allows Barr to delay and play games, the higher the likelihood things will "disappear" or be altered.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | March 27, 2019 11:43 PM |
Nadler's a pretty tough cookie. I suspect they've got plans to force Barr's hand.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | March 27, 2019 11:47 PM |
It is very possible someone will leak to the NYT, or the WP, or a news source such as BuzzFeed. Credible journalists will not give up the name of their source if the source asks not to be revealed.
If the content of the Barr VERSION is dramatically different in content and implications from the original, the focus will be on Barr moreso than the informant/leaker.
Barr knows he's being watched and his actions will be scrutinized. Still, he will delay and scrub the report as much as he pereives is safe to do while maintaining his spin. He has already proven he is a Trump/GOP hack, and anything he submits must be viewed as suspicious.
If the original ever gets released, Barr will lose all credibility. Democrats, the media, public outcry, must keep the pressure going. Courts will certainly be involved.
If the report is so rosey about DJT's lack of guilt as Barr's summary indicates, then Barr would be eager to have it distributed immediately. He isn't.

Anyone else see the Ari Melber interview with these two creepy spooks? They’ve cooked up quite a cover story. She’s got the worst not-a-trained-Russian-spy routine ever, and he’s got the sweatiest upper lip since Dick Nixon. She also can’t take her eyes off herself in the monitor.

Anderson Cooper interviewing Bannon right now on CNN.

I’ve never seen Anderson’s complexion more white.

Bannon’s face actually looked quite presentable, as opposed to him looking like an alky, who got smacked in the face with a burrito supreme.
Bannon’s new word during the interview:
Margin-alia. That’s right folks, Marginalia. “All the Russian interference is, Marginalia”. As if to say all that Russian interference was on the margins, on the outside, on the perimeter, nothing to see here....
He used the word three times, in response to three of Cooper’s questions.

Her alleged Russian government handler, a member of the Russian upper house of Parliament Alex Torshin, was sanctioned by the U.S. in April 2018. But looks like he was not the only one. Allegedly another was a Russian billionaire and ex-Minister for Open Government Affairs of Russia, Mikhail Abyzov. Mr Abyzov is known in the US for his investments in Silicon Valley startups, and in Russia he is the chairman of the country's biggest engineering company E4 Group and the majority shareholder in the ammunition plant 'Promtechnologii'.

Those ratings are going to shoot back up and get even higher. The full Mueller report hasn't been released, and it's going to tell a different story than the Barr summary.
And Trump is too stupid and evil to give himself even 24 hours for a momentary positive news day.
He has since announced that he wants the courts to overturn Obamacare — despite the Supreme Court upholding it, and him being rebuffed by Congress again and again — and throw 21 million people off health insurance. JUST BECAUSE.
And his dumbshit anti-education billionaire Eva Braun, Betsy DeVos, announced she wants to COMPLETELY defund the Special Olympics.
Very smart! These people are pure, unadulterated evil. Absolutely gratuitous sadists.

If you believe CNN and especially MSNBC and Rachel Maddow you will get nothing right. They actually love Trump and what he brings dollar wise in ratings and ad revenue. They're leading us to another 4 years of Trump by refusing to report actually damning and damaging stuff he's doing to the country. Wake up!!

by Anonymous | reply 206 | March 28, 2019 4:01 AM |
R206, it isn't trolling. It's common sense.
Speculation is not news. Cable news anchors spent two years speculating. We need to focus on informing the public of national news stories that highlight the damage Trump policy is doing to our country. This will actually fire up voters. It's tax season right now. Why aren't news anchors discussing in length how Americans across the country are complaining about being robbed by the Trump tax cuts?
Wouldn't that be more effective for 2020 than stretching on this Mueller report that has now come to a close?
You can call it trolling all you like. I'm still going to keep saying this.
If no indictments are coming and impeachment is not imminent as Pelosi said, what we see in the full undisclosed report does not matter. The report could say Trump kills puppies and drinks Baby blood it doesn't matter if we can't swing him in handcuffs and perp walk him out the Oval Office, it wont be seen as a win in the eyes of the public.
The news media has hyped and dramatized this report and Russiagate so much people are expecting drama as its rightful conclusion. Anything less would be seen as the collective as a political failure.

In times of crisis, which this most certainly is, I find Rachel Maddow indispensable. The analysts who appear on MSNBC are, for the most part some of the best in their field. I Feel the same about most of the people at MSNBC. For the most part, they are true journalists, really reporting the news. They aren't billed as "entertainment" as Fox is.

You know, when the lawyers on Mueller's team started leaving recently, that was a sign something was not right. There is growing speculation that Barr shut Mueller down. So you'd think the guys who worked for Mueller would start pressuring him to do something. Mueller's reputation is on the line if he allows Barr to mischaracterize his work.
I have to wonder if a true "final report even exists at this point. Once the truth comes out Barr's reputation isn't going to be worth anything. They're trying to drag Mueller down to their level. This is ascamand a cover up and most people can see through it. They are manufacturing this spin for his base.It amazes me that they can even find people like BArr to participate in this scam with no regard to the way they are perceived by the majority of people in this country. I hope the news media goes after Barr and looks under every fucking rock. I want to know who his clients are and WTF he answers to. He had a successful private practice and was ready to semi retire. He was doing well. Someone reached out to him, as I understand it, to see if he wanted to be on Trump's defense team, and he turned it down, but then he wrote this 19 page memo attacking his "good friend"Mueller and his investigation, and saying Trump could not be cited for obstruction even before he saw any evidence. He is dirty. He had even more reason to recuse himself that Sessions had.

8 Life Setbacks and Failures of Narcissists
1. Family Estrangement – Multiple studies have examined the relationship between narcissism and difficult family relationships [especially if you have to use money to keep them on board, e.g., a Woody-Soon-Yi situation with your own daughter.]
2. Divorce – Research has also shown the tremendous negative impact narcissism has on romantic relationships and marriages.
3. Relationship Cut-Offs – Since narcissists “use” rather than “relate”, they tend to leave many broken relationships behind. Narcissists also experience relationship dissolution from others feeling let down, disappointed, lied to, used, manipulated, violated, exploited, betrayed, ripped-off, demeaned, invalidated, or ignored.
4. Loneliness and Isolation – Due to the first three factors described above, most narcissists have few, if any healthy, close and lasting relationships. Some higher-functioning narcissists achieve external success in life – at the expense of others – and find themselves lonely at the top.
5. Missed Opportunities – From a lack of true substance and/or connectedness.
6. Financial, Career, or Legal Trouble – From rule breaking, gross irresponsibility, careless indulgence, or other indiscretions.
7. Damaged Reputation – From personal and/or professional lack of credibility.
8. Deep-Seated Fear of Rejection / Being Unimportant – Many narcissists are easily upset at any real or perceived slights or inattentiveness. They are constantly hounded by the insecurity that people may not see them as the privileged, powerful, popular, or “special” individuals they make themselves to be. Deep down, many narcissists feel like the “ugly duckling”, even if they painfully don’t want to admit it.

Members of Congress are demanding certain democrats resign...etc, etc, etc. Someone really does need to leak the full report. There should be no redactions, including GJ testimony....Nixon is the example....Congress can make the classified redactions. How dare Conway and the others demand he step down? They should fucking resign, not Schiff.
See how this works though? Fox has been calling Schiff a liar for weeks now and with Barr's summary, they and now repubs are calling for him to step down.

Let me clarify- when I asked about Maddow I was wondering why people are obsessed with pushing the line Democrats take orders from her. She's incredibly smart and good at her job, I just don't watch her show. Not my cup of tea. But all over the internet there's this running theme Democrats are interested in Russia only because Rachel pushes it on them, and that isn't true. No bashing of Rachel or her viewers was intended.

[quote]Speculation is not news. Cable news anchors spent two years speculating.
Cable news networks aren't pure news. A lot of their time is devoted to commentary and discussion which is what you deem "speculation". So if you want only hard news, choose an outlet that provides only that.
Also, cable news shows have much lower viewership than the big networks who all provide national and local news in all markets.
You have tons of choices for hard news. Stop demagoguing.

How come no one demanded bleeping Nunes resign when it was revealed he was just Dotard's mole? Here we have nothing but a partisan Barr letter and these moron Trumpies are acting like they were vindicated by god or something. Dems need to play hard ball or they will always be on the defensive for nothing more than partisan parlor trick. I do blame the stupid media for not pointing this obvious switcheroo ploy employed by Barr. A Barr summary with little actual Muller content to it is not the Mueller Report.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) blocked a resolution calling for special counsel Robert Mueller’s report be made public, arguing that Congress should also call for communications and testimony from Obama-era officials.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), who is one of several Democratic senators running for president, tried to get unanimous consent for the Senate to pass the resolution, which cleared the House in a 420-0 vote earlier this month.
Two earlier attempts to vote on the resolution were blocked by Mitch McConnell.

We need to kick ass, fine those fuckers, and bar them from hearings if they keep disrupting. I watched part of that and those rotten fuckers kept talking over him and interrupting Schiff before he had his say, insisting he yield his time ad he had to keep saying, "I will not yield!" Awhile back, I dvr'd Hannity for a week just to get an idea of his show and how he operates. What amazed me most was his blatant plagiarism, and how it appears that he never gets called on it, (not that I've seen, anywat). He would take a major story delivered either on MSNBC, CNN, NYT, etc. steal the clever byline written, then substitute his own propaganda in the subject line. I guess to make his deplorable viewers believe HE'S the clever one! (they don't watch or read any other news outlets so how would they know?).
Some examples: I saw a heavily promoted commentator on MSNBC comparing Trump's admin to a "Banana Republic", next day that's all Hannity was saying about how it'd be without Trump; his constant use of "you can't make these things up" for stories that he most likely DID make up; he directly stole "Boom" from Comey-associate Lawfare blogger Benjamin Wittes's twitter feed, who was using it to denote important scoops taken from NYT, WAPO, etc. - and THIS WAS ONE DAY after Rachel did a profile of Wittes on her show, - and the list just goes on.....
He can't even write his own fucking material!!!!

[quote]Trump allies see Barr’s letter as a kind of Swiss Army knife—a tool useful in all kinds of situations. Not only is it exculpatory, they say, but it also implicitly rebukes the press for its coverage of the Russia investigation, inoculating Trump from any future scandal that reporters might unearth. According to a source familiar with internal discussions at the Republican National Committee and the pro-Trump super PAC America First, both organizations are “geared up for any nonsense to come.”
[quote]They’re already prepared to attack reporters. “Any reporter who tries that will be hit with 30-second spots of all their ridiculous claims about collusion,” said the source, who, like others interviewed for this story, requested anonymity to describe private conversations. “Their tweets have all been screencapped. It’s all ready to go.” (“It's the same thing we've been doing the last two years. Liberty University owns an aviation company, R315. Why, I don't know.
[quote]The politically murky issue of separation of church and state has spilled over into schools, workplaces, institutions and government functions.
[quote]The Lynchburg Regional Airport also has found itself caught in the crosshairs of the topic – though the “church” in this case is the Christian private higher-education institution Liberty University.
[quote]Some Lynchburg City Council members voiced concerns this week – including the church and state issue – while directing city staff to negotiate a new lease with LU-owned Freedom Aviation that would allow the company to expand its business model at the city-owned airport.
[quote]Council voted 6-1 Tuesday to begin working out a new lease agreement with Freedom Aviation that would essentially allow the business to be the airport’s sole “Fixed Base Operator,” or FBO. Airport Director Mark Courtney had proposed an option that would allow the airport to become a FBO, a measure he said would anchor the airport’s business model and enhance its revenue opportunities, but Council did not support it.
[quote]Freedom Aviation purchased the other FBO, Virginia Aviation, in June 2014 and sought to assume the lease. The business provides fuel and repair services, among others, to general aviation users at the airport and is looking to spend millions in capital investments and nearly double its employment and economic output in upcoming years, according to projections presented to the city.

Conceivably, how many people have seen or will see the unredacted report? Mueller, Barr obviously. I imagine Barr won’t show it to anyone in the WH or beyond he doesn’t trust 100%. Is there the possibility someone on Mueller’s team has it and would leak it? I don’t see Mueller himself doing that.

by Anonymous | reply 342 | March 29, 2019 1:38 AM |
R340- It might be the case where the report comes out in "pieces". Everyone on Mueller's team might not know the entire report and underlying documents but enough people will know a piece here and a piece there.
Also, it might not even been anyone on Mueller's team that ends up leaking it - it could be someone on the inside of the WH who has been waiting for the right moment.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | March 29, 2019 1:42 AM |
I am not quite sure why so many people are accepting the Mueller report, or Barr's version of it. No one on the right would be accepting it if Mueller would have found collusion or overwhelming evidence of obstruction. Trump has spent months telling his people this is a witch hunt and to not trust Mueller's findings. So why are we accepting any of the conclusions? Not finding collusion isn't the same as it not existing. When I can't find my glasses, it doesn't mean they don't exist.

These calls for Schiff to resign are just right wing payback for the calls for Nunes to resign back in 2017.
[quote] The admission triggered three Democrats on the House committee to call for Rep. Devin Nunes, a California Republican, to recuse himself from the investigation, including Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the senior Democrat on the committee.
[quote] “After much consideration, and in light of the chairman’s admission that he met with his source of information at the White House, I believe that the chairman should recuse himself from any further involvement in the Russia investigation, as well as any involvement in oversight of matters pertaining to any incidental collection of the Trump transition, as he was also a key member of the transition team,” Schiff said in a statement. “This is not a recommendation I make lightly, as the chairman and I have worked together well for several years.”

I think Mueller is being quiet because he was never on our side, he always intended it to go this way. The Repubs stick together no matter what, they don't care that Trump is a disgusting sociopath, they will all be dead within a couple decades anyway so they don't care what happens to our country.

She pulled me aside recently to discuss in hushed tones, the recent and rapid departure of the church's Leader (embezzlement) along with his family. She said, and I quote, "I was SO disappointed by some of the congregation who demanded to know what happened. The council assured us THEY had everything in hand, THEY were handling matters, and WE needen't bother ourselves with the details. I'm putting my faith in them." trump on an anti-Schiff rant tonight . “Many, many people were badly hurt by this scam. But more importantly, our country was hurt. Our country was hurt. And they are on artificial respirators right now. They are getting mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,” Trump began. “Little pencil-neck Adam Schiff. He has the smallest, thinnest neck I’ve ever seen.”
The president continued, “He is not a long ball hitter but I saw him today, ‘Well we don’t really know, there still could have been some Russia collusion.’ Sick, sick. These are sick people and there has to be accountability because it is all lies and they know it’s lies.”
Also, Jr was the warm up act at the rally. "Think about the fact that every mainstream leading Democratic contender is taking the advice of a freshmen congresswoman who three weeks ago didn't know the three branches of government," Trump Jr. told the crowd as he discussed Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal, a climate change bill that failed in the Senate this week.
"I don't know about you guys but that's pretty scary," the president's eldest son said as the crowd started to chant, "AOC sucks! AOC sucks!"
Trump chuckled then told the crowd: "You guys, you're not very nice and neither is what that policy would do to this country."
We truly are an international embarrassment.

Mueller and his fellow accomplished attorneys who have spent years on this unprecedented issue now see the 'President' describe their work as 'illegal', a 'hoax', and thus 'accountable.'
Such slurs themselves seem legally questionable (not that this has ever given Trump a moment's pause).
At a guess, Mueller and his colleagues don't seem the types just to let such slander dominate the narrative and prevail.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | March 29, 2019 12:26 PM |
I agree with #390. Mueller isn't the type to go on Twitter or grandstand or call a press conference. His revenge will be much more subtle, and take some time. But Trump- even with all his spies who alert him to things days in advance- won't be aware of them. And he'll keep walking into big piles of shit
by Anonymous | reply 392 | March 29, 2019 12:47 PM |
Mueller and his entire team are being discredited and the results of two years of exhaustive investigation is being scrubbed as we speak and manipulated to make it look like Trump has been cleared. Now as an ex marine I can see Mueller following chain of command. He was tasked with producing a report & giving it to the AG. That is what the rules said. It was always up to the AG to decide whether it was made public.
Now if Rod Rosenstein had any balls, he would leak that fucking report, intact, and then walk. But if he did that, he'd get fired and lose his pension and would be a pariah; no law firm would go near him. So the only recourse is to take them to court, which Nadler is getting ready to do, or to leak the fucker.
We have no way to know who has access to it, or how many copies there are. We do have the indictments and charging documents filed with the court, and those were very explicit. They would also be part of Mueller's report, so right now we have part of it in the public domain.
But the juicy stuff on Trump, Don, Jr., Jared, etc. has not been made public and there's a lot more. There's some very dangerous information in that report. After we were attacked by a foreign power on 9/11, the entire 1,000 page plus report was made public. So they need to stop with their "national security " bullshit.
This fucking AG is like J. Edgar Hoover. He used to have reports on people that included embarrassing, incriminating stuff, and he used it to blackmail them into doing his bidding. Barr having access to all this information, is totally unacceptable. Right now, Attorney General Barr is the most powerful person in our government. Think about that.
We need to raise pure hell about it, and yes, Adam Schiff is my hero. I'm so glad he decided not to run for President. He is right where he belongs. Shame on Joe Biden and anyone else who is not raising hell about this. I wish Feinstein would figure out how to get it out here. But she's Senate Judiciary, not Intel. So I don't know if she has access. One thing pissing the WH off is that Schiff is part of the Intel briefings. LOL! They have to let him see things.

Why won't anyone pursue the Shera Bechard story (any info on it is 8 most. old). Michael Cohen was Trump's private lawyer (except for a couple things he did for Sean Hannity). Cohen facilitated a payoff for this ex-Playboy model to have an abortion and accept hush money for $1.6 million- in the form of $200,000 payments. Then, in true Trump fashion, they stopped paying her. So she went back to court.

Also a bit OT, but indicative of the damages Trump is doing to our government institutions:
The Justice Department has grown increasingly hostile toward its own LGBT workers, causing top talent to quit as they experience discrimination and “declining morale,” according to a group of LGBT employees who confronted Attorney General Bill Barr in a letter this week.
Workers say the FBI academy discriminates against gays and Latinos and evaluates them more harshly, and that “many gay agents attending [the FBI academy] are dismissed because they are not ‘bro-y’ or masculine enough.”
“I am leaving the DOJ in part due to the DOJ’s treatment of its LGBTQ employees,” one worker said in a survey, while another complained, “The DOJ is no longer the welcoming, inclusive environment for LGBTQ employees that it once was.”

Trump's OoJ was committed right on television FGS, about firing Comey over Russia, so how could Mueller not emphasize at least THAT crime?

Look at this foolish shit!
FOX & FRIENDS TO VIEWERS: “You don’t want the full Mueller report. It’s too many pages to read.”
The hosts of “Fox & Friends” told their viewers on Friday that they shouldn’t be bothered by the fact that Attorney General Bob Barr still hasn’t released special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Barr on Sunday claimed in his written summary of Mueller’s report that the special counsel did not establish that the president was involved in a conspiracy with the Russian government to interfere in the 2016 election, while also not exonerating him on obstruction of justice charges.
According to Fox’s morning show, that summary should be good enough for most Americans to believe the president did nothing wrong. In fact, co-host Ainsley Earhardt went so far as to say she was glad to have Barr’s summary instead of having to slog through 300 pages to get the report’s conclusions.
“The summary thing, everyone is probably thankful they don’t have to read the 300 pages,” she said. “We all will, probably, but you at home, you’re probably not going to sit down and read 300 pages, you want the summary.”
Co-host Brian Kilmeade then compared accepting Barr’s summary to reading the CliffsNotes of famous books, which he said was sufficient enough for most people to get the gist of what great literature is really about.
“I have a confession: I never ready [Homer’s] ‘The Odyssey,'” Kilmeade said. “I only read the Monarch notes. I still got a very good grade!”

I suspect the only reason Mueller didn't say there was hard evidence of obstruction is because he never interviewed Trump. There's a lot of legal bullshit about "state of mind" and "intent" and at one point they wanted to interview Trump and that got blocked. Interesting. Barr may have been consulting long before his name surfaced for AG. BEcause he shut down the investigation into Iran Contra when it got too close to Bush. Special Prosecutor Walsh wanted access to 41's diary and Barr stopped it. They said it was all the pardons of the actors...like Casper Weinberger ,Sr. that forced Walsh to shut down the whole damned thing. So this time he shut down Mueller.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | March 29, 2019 3:58 PM |
The thing is we don't know what evidence, hard or otherwise, Mueller laid out in either Conspiracy / Collusion or Obstruction cases. He didn't offer an opinion, right? Just laid out what the evidence was thusfar.... Barr took whatever evidence was there and "interpreted" it and judged by his own standards if they met the qualifications of collusion or obstruction.
As far as we know, Mueller laid out evidence that Drumpf licked Put Put's taint in exchange for fucking with the numbers and Barr's interpretation is that sexual acts don't count as collusion and unless we see actual evidence of Put Put's hand changing ballots, then there's nothing illegal!
by Anonymous | reply 415 | March 29, 2019 4:20 PM |
Agree R415. I bet Mueller was directed by Barr to simply give us the facts, not your conclusions. Because your conclusions might be misinterpreted as accusing the POTUS of criminal acts and since we don't indict sitting Presidents, we can't accuse them of criminal acts. Not your job. But then, Barr himself jumps to conclusions as he always intended to do. I have to wonder how Mueller is feeling right now to know he is getting fucked in the ass with a hot poker.

DL's rock of stability, Chuck Rosenberg brought up a very good point this morning regarding interviewing Trump. He said that if Mueller approached Trump's lawyer with an interview request, the lawyer's first question would be: Is he either the target or subject of the investigation. If the answer is yes, then the lawyer would say that my client intends to invoke the 5th amendment. CURRENT DOJ POLICY says if the person intends to invoke the 5th, then the they would not bring him in for questioning just to force the person to invoke the 5th amendment.

We need to pre empt them. We need to be like Pelosi when she said, "No. Wall Funding." Period. The Dems are not hard assed enough. I would assume from the moment BArr threw that four page memo out there exonerating Trump, that he would at the very least stand by what he wrote, and not back down. So if that was his opening shot, we have to assume he is colluding with the WH, protecting Trump, and we have to go hard at him. Take his ass to court, subpoena him, and trap him in lies. get him fired, leak bad shit out here about him. We are at war, dammit. We are at fucking war with these forces of evil.

But Trump would have been on record to have used the 5th amendment to avoid answering Mueller's questions. Given how Trump ignores and shits on political protocol and political etiquette why was he still treated in a favorable manner?

I don’t get Muellers complete silence. I don’t buy that he can’t have a quick press conference saying that he’s done and this is what he found.
I don’t believe that he can’t at least write a letter to congress saying as much or communicate something to the public or congress as a matter of course upon completing an investigation.
by Anonymous | reply 429 | March 29, 2019 7:30 PM |
I think Congress wants to read the report before they have Mueller and Barr testify
by Anonymous | reply 430 | March 29, 2019 7:32 PM |
You just know that Barr probably let Trump already read the report (or perhaps it was a PowerPoint with pictures and highlights - there’s no way in hell that Trump could read something 300+ pages long). It’s a very Devin Nunes move.
The Fox News victory tour is not really taking and that rally last night was pathetic.

This new Barr letter that came out an hour or so ago seems to say the right things but I’ve gotten to this point where I just do not trust anyone in that administration. I just assume they are lying or trying to snow the public.
The issue of him redacting peripheral third parties in order to save their reputations seems really off to me though. If you participated in this fucking scheme in any way, you deserve to have your reputation destroyed. Maybe it's best if wicked Mr Mueller's report is available in full - so his witch-hunt of sick lies can be laid bare; and all those GOP stalwarts can rest easy and focus on MAGA. That would be the best way forward for the country.

by Anonymous | reply 456 | March 29, 2019 10:12 PM |
I think what's going to happen is Barr will ignore Nadler's demand of the full report and he'll give a highly redacted version. This will let repubs continue the scheme that nothing bad happened. Democrats will have to fight for more release and the media will make it seem partisan "on both sides". The repubs will make it seem like the Democrats "lost" and "are sore losers grasping at straws" by wanting "more and more" of the report.
So I think we're going to continue to be disappointed.
I just want some brave soul to leak the damn thing. All that needs to be redacted are sources and methods, NOTHING ELSE
by Anonymous | reply 457 | March 29, 2019 10:44 PM |
If it is heavily redacted (and you know it will be) I just hope we get every single page of the 400 pages with all those black boxes, just so America can see how crap is being kept from them.
And agreed about Barr's 4th point: utter and complete fuckery.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | March 29, 2019 11:01 PM |
Yes we can wait around for the thing to leak but why be so weak? Nadler, Congressional Dems, all concerned parties need to examine EVERY avenue by which to obtain and view an unredacted version of this report. Fat Bob is not a crowned head here, stop acting like he is one. Yes he can make things very difficult, can redact, hold out, stall and everything else he's paid to do as a Good Trump Toady.
There is precedent - the Ken Starr report on Clinton was publicly released the 1st day it was available. The rules changed since then? Well CHANGE THEM BACK.
Aren't House leaders supposed to be able to view in unredacted? Like in a SCIF or something similar. We can start there at least.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | March 29, 2019 11:01 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 472 | March 30, 2019 1:34 AM |
Maddow points out that Barr is now putting more limits or conditions on the release of his version of the report, than he stated two days ago. She asked "What happened to cause him to add more conditions." Well, for sure he had a meeting with Lindsey Graham...for which he apologized because Nadler raised hell about it. The House leadership gave Barr until Tuesday to turn over the report. So now he responds by telling them, in effect, no, not until we have redacted etc. so maybe mid-April. He's also trying to clean up his mess "clarifying" what he meant with the summary. I suspect he is being pressured by Mueller on one side and by Trump on the other. Barr is fucked. WE need to apply MORE pressure on him. Pour. It. On.

As someone watching this from the other side of the globe it strikes me how critical it was that the 'good guys' got control of the House in your midterms, especially since your media seems to have just lapped up Barr's version and have really only begun questioning it as the wider rumbles became louder in the past couple of days. Why do you think that is, that outlets such as the NYT and WP just rolled over and began writing 'Muller report says Trump exonerated ...' articles when it wasn't even the fucking Mueller report, just a four-page summary by someone who has prior form when it comes to cover-ups? You can get why Fox would do it, but why all the others? The abject failure of the vast bulk of your traditional media is one of the most striking aspects of this whole shitshow. I was asking a while back that IF Meuller's report contains incriminating information on other politicians it could very well qualify as beyond the legal scope he could investigate. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if most of it is redacted.

Lindsey Graham, particularly as Senate Judiciary Committee Chair, absolutely has no business meddling into the content of the Mueller Report prior to its release. It is absurd arrogance and unethical Graham would attempt such. It is unprofessional, disgusting, and clearly out-of-bounds for Barr to even entertain such, and to have met with Graham for this purpose. Graham is not on the DoJ staff nor part of the Mueller investigative team. Being a Trump sycophant and prime enabler, makes such even worse.
Graham's job is to anticipate the Mueller Report in a timely fashion with as few redactions as possible. His job is not to conspire to edit it to be more favorable to Trump prior to release. And yet, Graham's colleagues in the Senate allow him to do this shit. Why is not ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Diane Feinstein, not loudly calling foul? Another loss for Drumpf -
WASHINGTON — In a legal blow to President Trump’s push to expand offshore oil and gas development, a federal judge ruled that an executive order by Mr. Trump that lifted an Obama-era ban on oil and gas drilling in the Arctic Ocean was unlawful. The decision, by Judge Sharon Gleason in the United States District Court for the District of Alaska, concluded late Friday that President Barack Obama’s 2015 and 2016 withdrawal of about 125 million acres of Arctic Ocean from drilling “will remain in full force and effect unless and until revoked by Congress.” She wrote that an April 2017 executive order by Mr. Trump revoking the drilling ban “is unlawful, as it exceeded the president’s authority.”

How about a cozy day in someone's kitchen cooking meth? Would you like that?
Or how about spending a day on the farm with a bunch of raging racist assholes who are also dumber than their piles of manure? You can help them fill out their bankruptcy papers while chatting about how smart Trump is and display a level of cognitive dissonance never seen before.
Come on the 3rd or 15th of month so you can celebrate check day. Every Deplorable who gets welfare and disability really needs it, but all the brown people are cheating the system. It's really weird how that works out.

I will say though that I don’t believe ALL Trump voters are evil. Some are just truly ignorant and only see Fox News. I think they maybe represent say 1/4 - 1/3 of his base. So, if I were to give people like SE the benefit of the doubt, I would like to think that THOSE are the people she is referring to.
And didn’t her line about the Forgotten Man mean that the actual racists deserve their fate of being forgotten? So maybe he's starting to think about doing the right thing - not because he wants to, but because he's more concerned about saving his own ass than Trump's.
Let's hope he takes a page out of Michael Cohen's book on how not to count on Trump's loyalty when your own ass is on the line.

Of course hes trying to save his own ass....the minute people started comparing him to John Mitchell and talking about obstruction charges, he realized he might very well go to prison himself. He is arrogant and thought he could get away with it like he did in the past...but in the past at least the players were shrewd and knew what they were doing.

Barr was hired to kill the Mueller investigation and then clear Trump and his inner circle. He managed the first. The second is more complicated with his redacting, editing, and delaying. He can't be sure the original won't be repressed due to leaking, court rulings, Congressional subpoenas, and public demand. He can either decide to do what's right and ethical, or get caught doing more dirty deeds for DJT and further injure his reputation. Playing "fixer" for Trump will not end well. Calling on Miss Lindsey for help shows his agenda is not admirable.

R533, I agree with that, I really do — *zero* tolerance for bigotry of *any* kind. But I think there is a slight fraction of “Deplorables” who aren’t fully Deplorable, they are actual victim of Fox News. They have been blatantly lied to by a TV station, and it’s totally legal — I guarantee they don’t understand how much they are being lied to, they don’t know the history of the Fairness Doctrine, nor are they sophisticated enough to understand the insidious nature of Russia on SM.
At the end of the day though, I can’t say I have sympathy for them either. Life isn’t fair. We all have to pick a side, don’t we? I guess the distinction I’m trying to make is that (in theory) I deal with Deplorables on an individual basis. It’s not like I have daily contact with them in my life, so I haven’t been able to test my theory. And let me put it like this; as strong as my instincts are to treat people as individuals, I also would openly laugh with great delight if a bunch of Antifa’s literally kicked a bunch of their asses. You know, the Snowflake Libtards. I would laugh.

I disagree, R534. Fox News viewers are not poor, helpless, victims who were tricked into believing what Fox was telling them. People have known for decades that Fox News lies... people who continue watching do so willingly. They're not unaware that they're being lied to... they like it because it's exactly what they want to hear.

The law is a funny thing. Both sides can weaponize it. I think Barr felt like he could bluff and bullshit his way through dealing with the report, because he believes, that his position confers credibility and he can say something "with authority" .But he's working for Trump so he conveys nothing but shit IMO, no credibility, and no authority. And even though what he may be attempting is "legal" we aren't buying it, and we may feel like he is treading very close to obstruction because he has "corrupt intent." That term was thrown around a lot. He is using his position to protect a pig who broke the fucking law. Consequences. Dear General Barr: when you stand too close to a shit slide, some of it is going to get all over you.

Of course he would think he could...hes done it before...Iran-Contra....notice that immediately the GOP started with the victory march and started attacking democrats and the press. It the GOP m.o...get ahead of the story and lie your ass off....once the narrative is out there and repeated enough, the less likely people will believe the truth when it comes out. Thats why Barr is still playing games...and will continue to do so...meaning it could take months to get the report. What do you think the narrative will be by then ?

Oh that one's easy. Access journalism has thoroughly killed that profession in the US.
It's vastly more important for these bozos to keep their WH sources than getting at the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | March 31, 2019 2:54 AM |
R544, the news cycle is so fast now, though. Barr's first letter, the four-page cover-up, exploded in his face almost immediately. He now has to try to hack and slash his way through 400 pages, inventing a new version of the report, in about a week or two, and by then several new narratives could have taken off. This is not a process he can control.

Here's the thing about Fox News viewers. There is not one of them who hasn't been told by some relative or some neighbor or some article accidentally viewed in passing that Fox is right wing propaganda. They have never, even once, bothered to check out any other news source. As someone who relates the most to MSNBC, I still go out of my way to see what other people are saying because I don't want to live in an echo chamber. Fox viewers never, ever do that. They choose their ignorance. They know Fox News is a bunch of lies because they've been told multiple times in their lives that it's filled with lies. They don't care to either confirm it or seek out proof for their case. They choose to wallow in the lies.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | March 31, 2019 5:56 AM |
R556 Fox hosts routinely tell their viewers that the mainstream media is all lies so a lot of Fox viewers think everyone else is getting false information that is biased towards Democrats/liberals and that in reality, truth favors repubs/conservatives. It really is a cult. The people I know do not think Fox is propaganda or bs. They think the mainstream media is bs liberal propaganda. It's hard for those of us who don't fall prey to that garbage to understand, but a lot of them really think that way. They do choose to be ignorant but the Fox hosts take advantage of that and convince them to distrust mainstream media and Democrats. It's nuts

Fox viewers want to be told that they, and their bigoted point of views, are right and the rest, the Liberals and the so-called lamestream media, is wrong. You honestly think the viewers are not aware of the shameless lies and hypocrisy of those who represent their point of view? It's the price they are willing to pay to keep holding on to those conservative values. My food stamps cousin and her three teen aged kids love Trump. Love him. When I ask her how she can support specific things like putting kids in cages or taking babies away from their mothers, she says stuff like, "Well why did the mothers even bring them here? It's the parents fault!"
Then I point out that he wants to fuck with health insurance and get rid of the Pre-existing condition thing, and that her insulin (she's diabetic) is getting expensive because they're letting Big Pharma get away with murder." And she says, "Oh, "they" won't let that happen!" And, she continues to engage in her magical thinking.
When you finally corner her, she says, "Look, I 'm not a robot. There's stuff I disagree with, but I just like him. I like the kind of person he is. He's very entertaining and I enjoy him. I think the media picks on him way too much, and I think his kids are hot. " Then she shows you the purse she bought at T.J. Maxx with Ivanka's name on it.

I currently live among the poor white Deplorables in a deeply red part of a blue state. They certainly do believe what Fox tells them. They do not know it is all lies because it confirms what they want to believe.
I have no sympathy for them, but I do understand where some of their anger comes from: the State and Fed money surely isn't being pumped into their town, and rural America is declining as a whole.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | March 31, 2019 2:32 PM |
The thing I want to make clear is my cousin is "non ideological." She's not an evangelical. She is not someone who goes to rallies, or wears a red hat. She's not some activist. Neither are her kids. They "don't like politics." They're the people who tell you "They're all crooked. They all lie." She works at a dead end job, her kids are mediocre.
She hangs out in the working class neighborhood bar to play darts twice a week, and spends the rest of her leisure time on the couch with a bag of Doritos. She goes to those house parties where they sell candles, and watches reality TV. She can tell you everything about the Kardashians. She reads the National Enquirer and hates Meghan Markle but she's "not racist." When she's placed on the defensive she yells, " The Blacks are more racist that Whites!"
She watches Fox when she watches the news, and she has a lot of nonspecific grievances & anxieties. None of her friends are politically active, they all love Trump, and she will walk over hot coals to help her friends and family. She's got an open wallet, will cook for you, or pick you up from the ER at 3 AM.
My whole point in drawing this profile, is that my cousin, I believe, represents the majority of Trump supporters. They don't want to be confused by facts. They are decidedly non intellectual, they don't read anything challenging they own beliefs. They are suspicious, defeated people whose lives are mostly lived off camera, not parading around demonstrating, or at rallies.
How do we deal with them? This may seem super cynical. But I would safely bet that before Trump, the celebrity, they didn't vote. And if Trump went away, they would fade back into the woodwork. They would not participate. Grievance voters have been unleashed, but fool that I am, we can still put them back in the bottle.
I think if we force this country to go more to the Left, and people start depending on the services and benefits that brings, we can stop this Rightward drift. it won't happen over night, but we can salvage this.
I'm not talking about a radical Left turn, but more like providing healthcare, saving the environment, gun safety, jobs to rebuild infrastructure, free college for those in need, good job training opportunities, etc. It takes maybe a generation of establishing and protecting those initiatives, like Obamacare, but we can prevail.

Fox has convinced their viewers that Obama, Hillary, Loretta Lynch, Susan Rice, Eric Holder, James Comey, James Clapper, Brennan all "got away" with crimes during Obama's 2 terms, should be investigated and locked up but the "deep state" protects them. Fox also says that to distract from everything, the deep state has invented fake crimes of Trump and his associates and those people are being unfairly targeted/locked up aka witch hunt. This is exactly what most hosts on Fox are spewing

They singled out CNN as totally mis representing what happened the media took too long to revise their headlines and fully report what was really happening. It gave Trump and his cohorts time to spin this and gain traction with his base and a lot of other people. Eric Boehlert was especially good. He said it was dangerous and shame on the media. I needed to watch Joy Ann Reid.

They hate each other. My sister has her masters and a strong sense she is being taken advantage of by the world. She is a bully and can't handle being challenging in any way.
They are trump supporters. Plenty of wealthy white people are. White women who believed the world owed they everything reach middle age and find out, no. They hurt the people they can, vulnerable people. They don't dare tell their husbands/bosses off. They are bullies.

It really is true if you talk about upper middle class voters who went for Trump-it was because of white identity politics and not the economy. Now, Fox did convince them that the economy was failing under Obama and they also blamed the recession on him (even though it happened during Bush's last year). Fox immediately acted like the economy had revived the day Trump got into office. Of course that's impossible as economies don't rise or fall in a day, even a month-they take time. They built Trump up like he was a genius miracle worker despite all the positive trends just being a continuation of Obama's results.
Fox at the same made the appeal that Trump "tells it like it is" aka going back to the 1950's and before that when it was OK to hurl racial, misogynistic, xenophobic, antisemitic, Islamophobic, homophobic insults and nothing bad happens to you. Deplorables LOVE seeing Trump "say what's not PC" and not get shunned or in trouble for it.
Right now Jussie Smollett is the #1 social issue on Fox. He is now seen as a "another liberal who got away with it". Fox gets ratings by riling up their viewers to be perpetually angry and Smollett accomplishes that by making up that hoax that MAGA guys attacked him.
The Covington boys were the #1 social injustice before that.
These male and female deplorables only care about protecting, supporting and increasing the power of white, straight, xtian male power

I had dinner with my parents this weekend. Both of them are Trump voters and daily Fox News viewers. We veered into immigration somehow and before I could steer us away, my mother said something about how is the country supposed to pay for al the immigrants streaming in by the hundreds daily. It just felt like such a Fox News talking point (broadcast alongside out-dated video of the crowds breaking down a fence from last year). I mentioned that my aunt who is married to my uncle is from Central America and she is an IMMIGRANT. “But she came here legally,” was my mom’s response. To which I countered with the fact that applying for asylum is legal. No answer after that. These people don’t know where to turn when you confront them with facts.
And, yes, Jussie Smollett definitely came up. I did make a point that the college admissions scandal was politically-blind and neutral, affecting people of both parties. I was like, do not even try to paint that with a broad brush that it’s a Hollywood liberal problem. Lori Loughlin am day he failed husband are both Trump supporters.
I think mentioning facts to Trump supporters in a non-threatening and rational manner can be effective. My parents aren’t frothing at the mouth at a rally wearing a MAGA hat; they are these kind of upper middle-class, respectable and kind people mentioned above who voted for Trump and are increasingly looking for ways to validate what they are seeing as a decision that has possibly led down a dangerous path for our country. My parents aren’t stupid and they do not like the deliberate cruelties this administration has inflicted upon innocent people. Facts (which they do not receive on the Fox channel) can help bring them into the light.

Complaining about Fox commentators is not the solution. The network is owned by international media and tabloid tycoon, Rupert Murdoch, and his sons There are too many Republicans in Congress that refuse to hold him accountable. The red states get the majority of the federal money. They are supported by blue states. The reason they don't get anything from their state is because their state doesn't charge taxes to pay for anything in their own state. They choose to live in a state that sucks at the federal money teat and then complain about how they aren't getting theirs. Fox gives the racist/identity politics voters and the grievance voters ( they seem like the same people) the language, the rationale, the arguments to justify their beliefs even though none of it would withstand a challenge of someone armed with facts, and based in reality. I remember Obama and several other people talking about this fragmentation. You know, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but not to their own facts." something like that.
Anyway, I think it's been pretty clear for at least the past year, what the game plan is. So I think we have to be way more assertive, preempt them, and push back hard and aggressively. Yes, I know we have to be careful not to turn public opinion against us, but IMO we've been way too careful. We need to act with authority and assertiveness and push these fuckers back into the hole they crawled out of. Not talking about the average MAGAs, but I am talking about the "opinion leaders" like Pirro, Hannity and the bastards like Bannon, and the politicians in Washington, and the arrogant pricks like Barr. We need to get way more aggressive.
