I was watching Cooper's FB report on suicide prevention, and there were multiple points where he said "I have spoken to doc... I mean I have read that people have spoken to doctors about thought stoppage" and the way he was talking about researching ketamine and people not understanding how reality gets distorted when you have true depression made me wonder: is Anderson depressed? I know his brother committed suicide and this topic is hard for him, but he seemed to audibly gulp at many points during the show, which is rare for him.
Anderson Cooper: depression?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 2, 2019 2:14 PM |
He's seemed depressed to me for a long time now. Hope he gets treatment.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 25, 2019 11:08 PM |
:( this makes me genuinely sad. he seemed really shaken up today.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 25, 2019 11:10 PM |
He's like Carter and also haunted by him.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 25, 2019 11:12 PM |
Depression and suicide are equal opportunity cunts, stealing the lives of the rich and the poor: high net worth celebrities, victims of mass shootings, and those who've gone bankrupt due to medical bills or job loss.
I'm glad Anderson is talking about since there's still such a huge stigma surrounding mental illness in the US.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 25, 2019 11:20 PM |
r4 much less so than in the rest of the world
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 25, 2019 11:25 PM |
R5
Agreed
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 25, 2019 11:37 PM |
As much as some don't like Pete Davidson, he certainly has made speaking about mental illness more commonplace.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 25, 2019 11:39 PM |
This suicide cluster is reminding me of last year...
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 25, 2019 11:42 PM |
R7
Anderson has been talking about it for a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 25, 2019 11:43 PM |
Anderson wrote about his brother's suicide in his first book, I think. Or maybe I read it online. It was very moving. And you could tell he had been struggling with it ever since. Along with his dad's death.
He said something about closure being a made-up word
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 25, 2019 11:45 PM |
R9, true, but Pete is talking as a person who has mental illness rather than commenting on others who have it.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 25, 2019 11:46 PM |
R11
I get what you mean.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 25, 2019 11:50 PM |
me too
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 26, 2019 12:21 AM |
He's on drugs.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 26, 2019 12:44 AM |
His brother Carter's death was completely mysterious--he left no note, and neither he nor his mother had any idea that Carter was in very bad shape emotionally. So it may not be that HE is depressed, but that he's haunted by the idea of other people's depression.
Prince William is not someone who suffers from depression, but of course his mother did and his brother does. He has become very interested in mental illness as a result.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 26, 2019 12:53 AM |
He stammers and says “you know” too much.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 26, 2019 12:59 AM |
Fuck him
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 26, 2019 1:01 AM |
Don't care.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 26, 2019 1:08 AM |
As someone who 's only sibling, a brother committed suicide without leaving a note, it is just something you never get over. I wasn't even that close to my brother and it happened over 30 years ago but you just never forget it and news of other suicides brings it all right back like it was yesterday.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 26, 2019 1:13 AM |
That’s sad. Hope he is seeking proper treatment for it if he is suffers from depression.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 26, 2019 3:40 AM |
Considering he has no talent, is now and always has been at the bottom of the ratings and he used his mommy to get him into CNN, you think he'd be happy.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 26, 2019 3:46 AM |
Most journalists are depressed or on the edge of depression because even if you make sure you don't read the details of every story you still see the headlines day in and out of every kind of misery possible. It really takes a toll. There are studies that show that just watching the news every day makes people more anxious and fearful which is a small dose compared to how many news stories journalists consume in a day.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 26, 2019 3:51 AM |
is he seeing anyone?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 26, 2019 4:19 AM |
As the former host of The Mole., Anderson is aware that people who are not Gloria Vanderbilt's child would never have been given the opportunity he was handed.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 26, 2019 4:28 AM |
who is this troll who is all up in this post? anderson did not use Gloria to become a journalist, he earned his credentials as a war correspondent reporting on the Rwandan genocide and Sarajevo, among other places. Not glamorous, very difficult. Then he struggled for years before getting a CNN job, from which he got fired btw. It was his Katrina reporting that made him a star because he was first on the ground. I don't see how Gloria could have helped him do any of that.
He is not a Ronan Farrow who was handed his own MSNBC show at 23, nor even a Tapper whose uncle got him his first job. He has worked harder than most anchors to get where he is and he succeeded because people were very taken with him. I had no idea who his mom was when he first became famous. None of my friends did. But everyone was OBSESSED with him at one point.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 26, 2019 4:59 AM |
R24
If Gloria could so easily get him the CNN job, why did he have to host the mole at all? why did he host a 3 am show on ABC news? Why did he struggle on Channel One news for so many years?
none of you trolls ever have an answer for this. As if anyone cares about who gloria's children are. she had 4 sons. Anderson supports her financially.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 26, 2019 5:01 AM |
A few things:
1. Carter killed himself in front of Gloria and he had been struggling for a while. Anderson talks about it in his first book. He was behaving erratically and there had been an "incident" at one of anderson's college events. 2. Anderson said he became a war correspondent because he could not cope with Carter's death and needed to be around people who were familiar with loss 3. He has talked about how seeing bodies piled up in ditches during the genocide made him numb and he had to leave 4. He lost his dad when he was ten and he was his real "parent". Aparently Gloria became an alcoholic. Anderson said losing his dad changed him forever.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 26, 2019 5:04 AM |
Anderson did say on New Year's Eve that he wants to try and work on being content.
He has seemed glum. He did break up with a long term boyfriend a while ago and I also get the feeling he doesn't like doing CNN's constant Trump attacking. I think he sees himself as more of the old school balanced non-partisan news anchor.

Dial down the rage, Nastiness at r25.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 26, 2019 5:15 AM |

R29
eh, the people who keep saying "Gloria got Anderson his CNN job" are kinda annoying. If it it were that easy to become the face of a cable news network.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 26, 2019 5:17 AM |
he is probably tired of dealing with Trump supporters and Kathy Griffin fans. I just peeked at his twitter mentions, and good LORD, people have issues.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 26, 2019 5:18 AM |
me too, coop
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 27, 2019 8:36 PM |
He's lost a long term Euro boyfriend, has a mother who's 94, and is saddled with a house in a foreign shithole run by a Trump wannabe.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 27, 2019 8:39 PM |
Has anyone seen his conference/standup touring show?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 27, 2019 9:23 PM |
R35
solo or with Cohen? I have seen the solo one
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 27, 2019 9:27 PM |
Guessing it would be the solo one that he’s doing right now, no mention of Andy on the Ticketmaster website.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 27, 2019 9:31 PM |
his solo show is excellent. He is a very engaging speaker, and surprisingly funny. Very funny. I think he likes to play the straight man when he is paired with a comedian, but he shouldn't.
It's not political, though. He talks about his own journey and philosophy, the stories that moved him the most, and his personal tragedies.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 27, 2019 9:33 PM |
Thx R38
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 27, 2019 9:46 PM |
Anderson used to have a Benjamin too R39
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 27, 2019 9:49 PM |
Isn't it kind of cruel of Andy Cohen to name his baby Benjamin too? Because he knew Ben M. also for years???
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 28, 2019 12:38 AM |
Ben still lives with Anderson, I think
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 28, 2019 1:05 AM |
No one can say for sure what Anderson would be doing if he hadn't had an extraordinary amount of privilege.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 28, 2019 11:08 PM |
I'm tired of people talking about privilege. The vast majority of people benefit from some type of privilege.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 28, 2019 11:13 PM |
[quote]The vast majority of people benefit from some type of privilege.
Some exceedingly more than others (for example, people related to a Vanderbilt).
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 28, 2019 11:32 PM |
R39 Seriously. Maybe he should seriously consider it. Fatherhood is something very meaningful to put his energy into. Carry on his Father's legacy and loving parenting that he feels such a strong connection to.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 28, 2019 11:44 PM |
Has Anderson ever expressed interest in fatherhood? Has Andy's recent foray into fatherhood inspired him?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 30, 2019 5:16 PM |
Depression is often comorbid with Asperger's.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 30, 2019 7:10 PM |
R50 I thought he had once said some people shouldn’t be/would be bad parents and he was one of them.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 30, 2019 7:16 PM |
R50
He said he had always wanted kids because he thought he was like his dad who was a great father. But he has started to suspect he is more like his mom and "some people weren't meant to be parents." He adores his niece and nephews though.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 2, 2019 3:03 AM |
I think Anderson and I should move into the third floor of the Breakers for a long summer of reading books, cocktails, and a daily routine of very skillful body work by an expert staff who bunk in the Orangerie.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 2, 2019 3:15 AM |
R54
lol, anderson has no staff.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 2, 2019 3:17 AM |
But we could hire one. Just a long quiet break. Spy on the tourists, maybe invite some hot twinks visiting the mansion with grandma's ladies excursion, up for a cocktail.
