Locker room nudity

Males under 40 in the United States are afraid to be seen nude! Is it homophobia?

by Anonymousreply 176May 6, 2019 12:48 PM

It's not homophobia. some people just don't like to be seen naked.

by Anonymousreply 1March 24, 2019 9:32 PM

I think the problem is someone taking surreptitious photos/videos in locker rooms, rather than getting undressed with strangers.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2019 9:35 PM

NOT this AGAIN!

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2019 9:36 PM

R3. Yes. It's paranoia. We must break this awful atmosphere of fear.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2019 9:40 PM

Let's get real r2 the ones that want a return to the good times of nakedness are the ones that want to perve, voyeur video or openly cruise. Usually the older and definitely out of shape men you don't want to see naked or imagine sexually.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2019 9:40 PM

I’m afraid r5 is right. Otherwise, what possible interest could it be of anyone else’s whether someone gets naked in the locker room or do the towel dance?

Admittedly, if I saw a hot guy in the locker room, of course I’d like to see him naked, but I have to say that’s more for my own perviness than anything else.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2019 9:57 PM

What's wrong with wanting to see some nudity in the locker room? It doesn't mean you're a perv.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2019 10:15 PM

Up until the early 1970’s, high schools and the YMCA has Mandatory nudity for males only in the swimming pool. Locker room nudity in high schools ended in the mid 1990’s due to homophobia. As homosexuality has become more accepted in our society, “straight” males have become more homophobic. Even male affection and bonding is a rarity. I am 50 and remember going to the YMCA at the age of 5 and swimming nude with adult men and boys. Communal male nudity bonded you to your peers and made you not fearful of puberty.

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2019 10:16 PM

What R3 said.

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2019 10:18 PM

penis envy. No one feels they can measure up to porn stars. in a smaller way, DL standards don't help either lol

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2019 10:23 PM

I’m under 40 and aI’ve never been naked in a locker room and never seen other men naked in one. My school didn’t have showers for the mandatory weekly gym class, it was on Wednesday afternoon and we went home afterwards. There were bathrooms outside the gym with 2 changing cubicles but we all just took off our sweatshirts and then sprayed some deodorant and went home in out T-shirts. My dad has talked about days like R8 mentions and it’s hard for me to imagine.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2019 10:25 PM

R8, I was in high school in the 80s and no one was getting nude.

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2019 10:25 PM

I was naked in high school locker rooms in the 80s. Good times, good views.

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2019 10:28 PM

Out-of-shape eldergay here. I avoid locker room nudity because I don’t want to inflict the sight of my sad old skinny-fat body on anyone - I’ve been judged silently (and even out loud) one too many times. I don’t even like wearing short-sleeved shirts!

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2019 10:30 PM

[quote]What's wrong with wanting to see some nudity in the locker room? It doesn't mean you're a perv.

This attitude right here is why. If I’m changing in a locker room after a workout or a shower, I don’t need someone (usually some old disgusting fat troll) leering at me for their thrill of the day. I’m getting changed, not putting on a go-go show for you.

The fact that people can’t see that’s pervy behavior is a huge part of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2019 10:34 PM

Is it the same troll who over and over again talks about swimming naked at the Y?

by Anonymousreply 16March 25, 2019 12:01 AM

When I was in high school (graduated 1972) we all participated in PE and everyone showered which was required and I don't think most minded. It was quick and we toweled off and left. I noticed that in later years they stopped requiring you to shower. I just assumed that changed the way younger people approached being naked in front of others. I am a member of a Cross Fit gym and they don't ever have showers. I wouldn't use one anyway but I was surprised by that. Do other gyms still have showers?

by Anonymousreply 17March 25, 2019 12:07 AM

I hated disrobing for PE.It was very tramatic....especially if you had not hit puberty and your surrounded by bears.....yuck.

by Anonymousreply 18March 25, 2019 12:44 AM

I did not vote. I'm old enough to find locker room nudity normal, but there's nothing "bonding" about it.

by Anonymousreply 19March 25, 2019 12:51 AM

I can see locker room bonding if you're part of a team. But that can happen fully clothed. I'm not sure what being naked has to do with it.

Yes, got naked with my high school and college teammates back in the 80s/90s. But it grosses me out to think of any activity happening in there. Even when they're reasonably clean, they're not the best smelling or most hygienic location for an encounter.

Yes, I peeked (even my straight friends confessed to that to see how they measured up), but no staring, no touching, no talking about it. Just do your business and leave!

by Anonymousreply 20March 25, 2019 1:07 PM

Thankfully, I never had "teammates."

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2019 1:09 PM

Why "thankfully", R21? I built lasting friendships with the guys I played baseball with.

by Anonymousreply 22March 25, 2019 1:18 PM

I think I would die if I had to listen to people talk about sports, r22, let alone be forced to play them.

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2019 1:31 PM

Lockerooms are for changing clothes, that means being at least briefly nude.

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2019 1:32 PM

In my gym men are naked all the time. There are quite a few guys who love showing it all off.I have had so much sex there too. It’s fun. I would say some of the show offs are straight too. They love the attention

by Anonymousreply 25March 25, 2019 1:37 PM

Sometimes, there is something worth watching.

r30, the lady doth protesteth too much. sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me

by Anonymousreply 32March 25, 2019 2:36 PM

I only feel comfortable naked if I'm in shape. If I'm fat, I'm always wearing compression clothes in the locker room.

by Anonymousreply 33March 25, 2019 2:54 PM

[quote] My school didn’t have showers for the mandatory weekly gym class

Weekly? No wonder kids these days are so fat. We had daily gym class, and yes, showers were mandatory. The gym teacher would stand at the door where the towel bin was, and if your towel looked to be too dry, he'd grab you by the back of the neck to see if your hair was wet.

As for locker rooms, we'd go swimming at the local pool and thought nothing of getting naked with everyone else. After swimming we would go into the showers wearing our swimsuits and rinse off, then peel off the swimsuits, wring them out, drape them over the water faucet and finish taking our showers. We were told the chlorine was bad for our skin and hair, so we always showered after swimming.

I had a couple of rich friends who had backyard pools with little cabanas for changing. I have no idea what the women did, but the guys would all change at the same time, They even kept a supply of assorted swimsuits for you to borrow. If you got one on that turned out to be too big or small, you thought nothing of swapping suits with someone else. After swimming, you'd just toss them in the bin with your towels and the mom (or more likely, the housekeeper) would launder them.

If you'd asked everyone else to leave so you could change in private, the other guys would think you were strange.

by Anonymousreply 34March 25, 2019 2:59 PM

Not interested in seeing all male nudity. Some just need to change in private. But certainly they need to be encouraged to work-out.

This was how I discovered uncircumcision, though I would not realize what I had seen for years. I just thought the poor guy broke the head off his dick. I was always purposely nicer to him than I might otherwise have been, I felt so bad about his dick.

by Anonymousreply 37March 25, 2019 3:43 PM

Towel Dance Troll, do you never get tired of this topic? you must post about this once a month and have for the last 15 years.

by Anonymousreply 38March 25, 2019 3:46 PM

Is the Towel Dance Troll the Towel Dance Troll because he loves the towel dance or because he hates it? We use troll to mean "enthusiast" and "hater" equally on DL, and sometimes it's not clear which one is meant.

by Anonymousreply 39March 25, 2019 4:07 PM

Both

by Anonymousreply 40March 25, 2019 4:33 PM

[R35]

They are the main ones trying to start conversation when your naked. No fatty, let me get dressed and stop looking at my dick.

by Anonymousreply 41March 25, 2019 4:37 PM

It's partly homophobia. But mostly "fear of cellphone cameras and having their nakedness plastered all over some website on the internet"

by Anonymousreply 42March 25, 2019 4:38 PM

I don't give a damn if people see me nude when I am changing, or I see someone else nude while they are changing even if I am not attracted to them at all.

Who cares, some people are so damn uptight and it does not compute for me.

by Anonymousreply 43March 25, 2019 4:48 PM

Being able to see hot men naked in the lockerroom is one of the few gay superpowers, and should be protected at all costs. Just don't be obvious or creepy about it.

by Anonymousreply 44March 25, 2019 4:55 PM

r42 I don't think people are that aware. I'm shocked by how oblivious people are. I personally think it's because all men are either bi or gay, and walkin around with a boner would expose their gayness. Most have no problem walkin around with their butt out. I'm actually disturbed by how gay the average straight man is.

by Anonymousreply 45March 25, 2019 4:58 PM

I work out at NYSC. There's. combo of towel dances & nudity. Whatever makes you comfortable, says I. As a gay dude I find almost anyone showing skin interesting, even if they're really old. Curiosity I guess? It doesn't feel sexual.

by Anonymousreply 46March 25, 2019 5:04 PM

I'm 35 and have no problem with nudity, whether in the locker or at a nude beach, but that would make me an anomaly amongst my peers. I come from a rather 'modest,' traditional family, so not sure where I picked up that attitude -- it definitely wasn't from school, where guys were shy about changing in gym class in the 90s. And that was before smartphones.

by Anonymousreply 47March 25, 2019 5:07 PM

[QUOTE] I hated disrobing for PE.It was very tramatic....especially if you had not hit puberty and your surrounded by bears.....yuck.

I think it’s not exactly homophobia, but as people began to realize that same-sex attraction was not some rare exotic perversion, and that some of their peers were probably gay and checking them out as objects of desire, they got self-conscious about group nudity.

by Anonymousreply 58March 25, 2019 6:32 PM

uptight Nellies like r15 perplex and amuse me. You think someone appreciating a beautiful naked body is automatically a perv? Jesus, this country is fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 60March 25, 2019 6:58 PM

Seriously, this topic AGAIN?

It's funny how the one person gets so fuming mad about people who do the towel dance. It's fascinating that he doesn't have the capacity to understand that someone doing the towel dance does not change his life one way or another (except not getting to leer).

People towel dance for various reasons. Younger generations probably do it because video and photography without others knowing is a thing. Others probably do it because of people like the Anti-Towel Dancer who creeps the fuck out of them.

by Anonymousreply 61March 25, 2019 7:06 PM

I grew up going to the boy's club and ymca and I played hockey through high school, wasn on the swim team. I was so immune to guys naked that I probably never knew I liked fucking them until after a night of clubbing with co-workers I got a ride home because I took extasy and was seeing halos and when I peed in the men's room I blew a load....I also was kind of drunk. He pulled into a closed bank dark parking lot, came over to the passenger side, opened the door, pulled down my shorts and pretty much just sat on my cock. I'm not kidding. I still think guys stink and when they have nothing going on in the "hot" department, they always have these far out stories about how many chicks, all the pussy etc. I met most of my early hook ups at the gym..,.they' would see I am sort of hung and in the 90s Sports Erection gym on the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills border....size queens were bold, payed a lot of money...and they were as fucking hot as fuck!

by Anonymousreply 62March 25, 2019 9:23 PM

I've belonged to the same gym for 20 years. Until 3 years ago, the shower stalls had no doors or curtains and no one seemed to mind, nor were there any obvious pervs around. Even if there were, who cared? Now suddenly we have shower curtains and millennials falling over themselves trying to pull their underwear up under a towel.

by Anonymousreply 63March 25, 2019 9:34 PM

[quote] [R30], the lady doth protesteth too much. sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Yes, dear. Those complaining about the lack of male nudity in a locker room only want to see naked men for pervy purposes. The rest of us just go to change and get out, and don't concern ourselves with what's going on around us. Occasionally, I will see a welcome bit of nudity but most of it is unappealing. And locker rooms smell!

by Anonymousreply 64March 25, 2019 10:46 PM

Let’s slap some ass

by Anonymousreply 65March 26, 2019 1:24 AM

No, r42. Towel dancing was around long before cellphones. It's fear of being seen nude by the wrong people.

by Anonymousreply 66March 26, 2019 1:41 AM

Its not just about being scared gay guys might see them, though I am sure that is a thought process for some. A big thing with towel dancing is guys are way more insecure about their penis size!

They don't have people to see their not impressive looking dick. Porn and the like has been a huge factor in that cultural shift to being insecure.

by Anonymousreply 67March 26, 2019 1:45 AM

For the record. a hairy naked man like r35 is the holy grail for me.

by Anonymousreply 68March 26, 2019 1:58 AM

R66

“Wrong people” = the gays

by Anonymousreply 69March 26, 2019 3:32 AM

No R66, try 'obsessive, leering creeps.'

by Anonymousreply 70March 26, 2019 4:45 AM

It's very clear the people getting so pissed off at people who towel dance are insecure themselves. They feel like the towel dancer is rejecting them and telling them they are too ugly to see their penises.

by Anonymousreply 71March 26, 2019 1:45 PM

Mind your own business but discreetly steal peeks at hotties.

Don’t bitch obsessively about what other people are doing.

R73 It's laughable that you say you don't care, when it's obvious you care that you can't see a free show.

by Anonymousreply 74March 26, 2019 4:48 PM

The advent if cell phones cameras everywhere has changed everything. In the 70’s and 80’s NOBODY HAD CAMERAS ON THEM. You could be nude without being secretly recorded and put on the internet. Now literally every single person has a phone and video camera on them at all times.

by Anonymousreply 84March 26, 2019 5:43 PM

It's amusing how the the millennials write this off to cell phones and pics -- as that is the world they live in.

Let's face it, they're still living at home with mommy and your body is naughty! THAT'S the problem.

And, btw, have you seen the average millennial body? You don't get in shape by gaming all day...

I agree that I find it unnatural that men have become terrified of exposing themselves in a locker room. And sad. I miss seeing dicks in the shower rooms. Seems so stilted. Guys contort themselves to avoid being seen. Yet this same generation seems to have no trouble sending dick pics to each other. Sigh. Oh, and I’m not a pe4v. I just enjoy seeing the nude male body.

by Anonymousreply 97March 28, 2019 11:49 PM

I saw this with guys my age in high school, 18 - 21 years ago. It's just a cock, balls, and an ass -- we all have one. It annoyed me because I wanted to shower after gym class, but nobody else was doing it, so I wasn't going to be the one weirdo showering, lol.

by Anonymousreply 98March 29, 2019 3:11 AM

I've been nude in a bathhouse, which is like a locker room, many times, and it didn't bother me and I never noticed anyone else acting uncomfortable.

[quote]I've been nude in a bathhouse,

by Anonymousreply 100March 29, 2019 11:27 AM

It depends on the sport too. I swam and played baseball. After swimming we were all naked eventually. After baseball I don’t ever remember showering except if we dove in the pool after practice on a hot day. Not sure of other HS sports but I would think it would be weird if a college or professional althlete didn’t shower nude afterwards. I imagine people like Rafael Nadal usually have their own private stall but not the local community college football team

by Anonymousreply 101April 2, 2019 7:32 AM

As a future ass man, I loved the guy whose locker was next to mine. I could sit on the bench and have that beautiful ass inches from my face.

I can still see it 50 years later. Yumm

by Anonymousreply 102April 2, 2019 8:05 AM

In 7-9th grade showers were mandatory. You got a swat with a paddle if you got caught trying to skip the shower. We also swam nude. Of course being a gayling, I got real good at looking at all the nude bodies without getting caught. I never saw anyone getting an erection and pretty much after a few weeks as a 7th grader it became pretty routine. I especially liked seeing the hairy 9th graders when I was in 7th grade and hadn't hit puberty yet. I remember one guy in 9th grade who was quite endowed. He seemed to hang out naked a bit longer showing off his large cock.

The 80s seemed to be a time of transition for this. We had showers at school, but you weren't required to take one, and few guys did. However...in my fantasies the football team always showered.

by Anonymousreply 114April 4, 2019 6:35 AM

r105 the pool was added on to the building and was separate from the other gyms. The girls would be in the normal gyms while the boys were swimming and visa versa.

by Anonymousreply 115April 4, 2019 7:04 AM

My high school had a pool attached to both the boys and the girks locker rooms, but when the boys swam naked in the pool the P. E. Instructor would lock the girls locker room door from the pool side.

by Anonymousreply 116April 4, 2019 7:19 AM

[quote][R103] When you swam naked in PE, where were the girls? Did they do a different activity while you were swimming?

Not r103, but in my case, the girls were in the girls' gym. The pool was on a separate floor. Boys and girls alternated.

We fondly recall the magnificent sizemeats we gazed on at the age of 13 in our high school nude swimming classes! And the locker room.... when the scorching hot 6 foot plus and horse-hung Polish captain of the football team stood talking nude to the coach! Mary!!

by Anonymousreply 126April 5, 2019 7:44 PM

not to mentia the high school community showers!

I am not comfortable around a old pervy gay guys. It seems unnatural.

See how that works?

by Anonymousreply 129April 5, 2019 10:20 PM

When I was in the ninth grade, they put me in to a gym class with the 12th graders because of some anomaly in my schedule. God bless that guidance counselor! It was a feast for the eyes (although I was always afraid of getting a boner). But those 12th graders were developed, hung, hairy, and hot.

by Anonymousreply 130April 5, 2019 10:23 PM

[quote]Yet this same generation seems to have no trouble sending dick pics to each other. Sigh. Oh, and I’m not a pe4v. I just enjoy seeing the nude male body.

Oh, I dont know.. one could think that had something to do with choosing who they want to see them naked.

by Anonymousreply 131April 8, 2019 3:21 PM

Probably a big part of this has to do with at least 2 things. One is the older generation had many people who had military service. They were naked for showers and changing a lot, no privacy. Another thing is the older generation lived in smaller homes, larger families and had less privacy overall, so it was likely they were seen naked sometimes, if incidentally. The maybe #3 thing, and people have forgotten about this, but in the history of Boy Scouts and school gym class, and other organizations, there was naked group time (swimming, showering, etc.) as a part of the program. This normalized group nudity for the boomers and earlier.

These days people have their own bedrooms, possibly their own bathrooms, and they aren't in the military to the extent they used to be. Pedo paranoia took care of the nekkid swim classes and summer camps. I'm Gen X and the nudity thing was still around somewhat in the military and in gym locker rooms, but not elsewhere. But it's only in the past 10 years or so that towel dancing has become serious sport. My YMCA now forbids nudity in the sauna and steam room, with signs posted. Until a few years ago, nudity was required in those places as a hygiene measure.

For many of the older generation, they aren't perving on anybody; nude in certain places was simply how things have been done. Similar to the millennials, who aren't used to it, and for them, being covered up or alone and unobserved is how things have been done.

by Anonymousreply 132April 8, 2019 7:50 PM

This makes sense r132

But gay old perv boomers leering at young millennials add a whole other distasteful element.

Old perverts are icky, no matter what the generation. And in 2019, it’s the boomers.

by Anonymousreply 133April 8, 2019 8:05 PM

Certainly there are older people that are used to being nude and will continue being nude because that's what they're used to. But those aren't the guys bitching that the younger ones cover up and won't let them see their dicks!

Boomer here. Grew up with mandatory showers in gym class, and if anything, compulsory nudity was a great equalizer.

I can't remember what I had for dinner last Friday but I can tell you what each of my junior high classmates looked like naked and 95% had perfectly average cocks (me too). Knowing mine was like the others gave me the courage to go to baths and bars and proposition lots of guys once I came out.

If my only frame of reference had been porn, I would've been too intimated to go home with anyone.

by Anonymousreply 148April 9, 2019 12:05 AM

Are you black or white r148?

Because there’s a substantial difference according to r145

by Anonymousreply 149April 9, 2019 12:11 AM

Note that the commenters in the article at R135 are as confused as Dataloungers. They are conflating nudity with sex. They think that there are hard lines about where and when nudity is permitted or prohibited at the gym. One person says it's okay in the shower and locker room, but nowhere else, for instance.

People twist themselves rhetorically to convince the world how prudish they are. Nobody really calls out the central criminal issue, which is it's illegal to take video or photographs of people in these places. Every gym I've been in the past 8 yrs or so has signage stating that any recording of images, sound or video is prohibited.

I am curious about which "social networking site" the complainant found video of himself. I'd put my $$$ on Tumblr. Another probable reason Tumblr would want to get rid of all XXX stuff, since shit like this sets them up for lawsuits. Interesting that the perp is a millennial.

by Anonymousreply 150April 9, 2019 2:08 AM

Today we saw something nude in the locker room that literally took our breath away and he was walking right toward us. A real man, maybe 6 foot 3, muscular blond hairy, hung, no shaving, late 30s early 40s, looked like a football player. When we got home we contacted our similarly built Hungarian fb and obtained 'relief' shortly thereafter!

by Anonymousreply 151April 9, 2019 8:14 PM

Uh huh, they're always "hung', Honey.

by Anonymousreply 152April 9, 2019 10:18 PM

My Y also put up signs a few years ago suggesting one wear a towel in the steam and sauna due to MRSA. Those of us who went to the Y before the signage appeared are still naked in the steam and saunas. Just a few years ago, nudity was expected in there.

by Anonymousreply 153April 9, 2019 11:11 PM

I remember a guy in 8th grade, who made my life hell in the typical ways. Sissy. Fag. Queer. Anyway he came up to me after gym class once and told me he noticed I had the biggest dick in class. Things changed between us after that.

by Anonymousreply 154April 19, 2019 2:25 PM

Don't stop there, r154.

by Anonymousreply 155April 19, 2019 2:39 PM

What R148 said 100%!!!

I’m a Gen-X (at least that’s what the internet tells me based on my birth year) and we had compulsory showers after gym and for those of us who played, after practice/games. They were the old school big open showers too. Yes, it was a huge equalizer - because despite what’s posted here and elsewhere, HS locker rooms are not filled with teens sporting 8 or more inches lol

Most of us were perfectly average, with some smaller, and maybe a few hanging a bit or much larger. I saw my first uncut in the showers, and I was fascinated by the different bushes and overall body hair on the other guys - still a thing for me.

Later, I wondered, once I had some real penis experiences, if the smaller (even some of the averages) were growers, the same way I wondered if the bigger guys were showers.

There was also the added benefit of capturing those naked bodies in your mind’s eye and depositing them in the “wank bank” for use later. Remember - there was no internet back then, so other than magazines, - which raised other issues like where to buy, where to hide - gym showers were all you had.

Admittedly, as a young, gay man I liked to show off in the locker room - no towel around the waist, naked as long as possible (I still am like that a bit now to be honest lol), and I did cruise the locker rooms - sometimes with success, sometimes not. Now as a 40-something gay man, I don’t ogle or cruise. I’m at the gym for a reason - trying to maintain and fight the good fight so to speak. Do I notice a hot guy, a great body, a nice dick, or a sweet ass? Sure. But that’s it. It’s nice to take a gander, but I’m not like some I’ve seen of all ages who are pretty creepy about it.

by Anonymousreply 156April 19, 2019 3:35 PM

You say you’re 40 something r156, but you write like a 80 year old queen.

And a perv. No wonder Millennials do the towel dance.

by Anonymousreply 157April 19, 2019 6:05 PM

"Locker room nudity", sort of an oxymoron. In the US we have terrible hang ups over nudity that have gotten worse in the last 25 years. In Europe and South America, this phenomenon is completely absent. In fact in spas on the continent men, women and children mingle naked without a shrug.

When you think about it- it's funny as hell. I mean what is the big deal? I suppose since public school gym programs have collapsed due to poor funding kids do not get used to it and perhaps are shy and have hangups? I have been in locker rooms with nude peers (and pools too) starting with swimming lessons at the YMCA at 5 years old right up through tennis teams, piss elegant clubs and on to NYC gyms/clubs. I don't even think about it.

As for straight guys worrying about gay guys ogling them- get a life.

by Anonymousreply 158April 19, 2019 6:14 PM

Is it the straights doing the towel dance, or just the (obviously highly resentful) gays?

by Anonymousreply 159April 19, 2019 6:18 PM

The young , good looking straights, r159. There are some that would rather bow up the world than be seen naked by the wrong people.

by Anonymousreply 160April 19, 2019 6:56 PM

At my gym, all of the towel dancers seem to be under 30. Are they afraid that a gay guy might catch a glimpse of their junk or ass? Are they all insecure about their size? I don't get it. I'm not someone who parades around naked - in fact, I go pretty quickly from towel to underwear - but the towel dance seems ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 161April 20, 2019 3:16 AM

They are aware that perverts (of all ages) are standing by with their phones to snap pictures of naked guys.

by Anonymousreply 162April 26, 2019 3:11 AM

I recently saw a combination of towel dance and nudity. Hot young guy changed under his towel while conversing with the guy next to him, but dropped the towel once he'd pulled his shorts up in front (no undies), so for a minute his bouncy round buns were visible (to me anyway) before he pulled them up in back.

by Anonymousreply 163April 26, 2019 3:18 AM

There is a three-part documentary on You Tube about the demise of naked swimming in schools, pools, and gyms. It discusses how society's attitudes towards nudity has changed over the last 30 years.

I had never realized it, but the opening scene in Walt Disney's POLLYANNA (1960), certainly considered family fare, shows a naked boy as he swings from a rope and drops into a local swimming hole to join the other naked boys.

by Anonymousreply 168April 26, 2019 1:12 PM

Show us, r168.

by Anonymousreply 169April 26, 2019 1:13 PM

Not many of us are prudes, but why must one guy at my gym bring his iPhone into the steam room? Seems like it would damage the phone, it compromises other peoples' privacy, and if he's so busy he can't leave his phone for 10 minutes maybe he shouldn't be in the steam room.

by Anonymousreply 170April 27, 2019 12:09 AM

You’re obviously at least a boomer r170

Maybe even a WW2 vet

by Anonymousreply 171April 27, 2019 12:12 AM

Phones in the sauna have become the norm at my gym, despite the "no phones allowed" sign outside the door. I haven't seen anyone using the camera in an underhanded way; they just scroll through their social media or listen to music. Sometimes a couple of young straight guys watched a comedy sketch uproariously. Once a guy got told by another guy for playing a loud video game on his phone.

by Anonymousreply 172April 27, 2019 12:14 AM

yeah, r171, expensive electronics and steam go hand in hand.

by Anonymousreply 173April 27, 2019 12:14 AM

When I was younger, be it in a bar or a locker room, I was aware of, and creeped out by older guys who were leering at me. Maybe I was paranoid or downright nervous some of the time, but I certainly perceived leering some of the time, and certain of it other times. I hated it, and sometimes there would be older guys who felt it as their RIGHT to say or even touch me. On one occasion in a bar, I created a minor scene by yelling at the guy. A much older friend of mine who saw the scene suggested I was maybe overreacting. I didn't think so and around that same time in another bar, I saw a young guy (probably roided) threaten to beat up an older guy who said something or touched him. In each instance, the older guy seemed oh so shocked and pleaded how he was misunderstood.

Fast forward to today. I'm a Baby Boomer, and when I go to the gym, I try to remember my younger days and police myself as best I can. Sure, I could camp out in the locker room and hope to catch a show (college gym). For that matter, any age could camp out hoping for a show. I might think to myself what a shame that the college guys today are much more modest, but they HAVE to be for the reasons mentioned above (mostly cell phones invading their privacy). SO, when I use my gym, it's for "the good fight" as someone mentioned above. I'm trying to be fit and as attractive as I can--I might not succeed, but I'm certainly gunning for healthy. If I enter a locker room and there's a hot guy there, I do not stare. If they are friendly, I'll chat and consider myself lucky. NO lingering. No following hot guys into the locker room. THAT is pervy, If I did that, my younger self would smack my older self big time.
