by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2019 7:45 PM

So this says nothing?

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2019 7:45 PM

Sounds like Trump has been cleared of both collusion and obstruction by Mueller’s report.....unbelievable. We saw both live and in the open, I don’t get it.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2019 7:49 PM

Un FUCKING believable

I am shocked that Mueller vindicated Trump and campaign on collusion

I bet if a Democrat ran the Special Counsel the results would have been different

I still want the evidence.

None of the smoke about Trump Tower meeting addressed

or why so many people lied

So Trump and campaign cleared of obstruction and collusion

now his approval numbers will SOAR upwards. I bet he'll go over 50% and they can successfully paint the Democrats as conducting a witch hunt

WE ARE FUCKED

I'm so pissed

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2019 7:50 PM

I feel like crying.

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2019 7:50 PM

We need to see the full report.

If there’s nothing there then why not?

It’s just too big of a coincidence that they had their own guy as the ref.

What a sham!

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2019 7:51 PM

This is like Election Night all over again.

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2019 7:52 PM

I truly hate this country

If you a white xtian conservative rich male you can get away WITH ANYTHING

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2019 7:52 PM

White republicans are truly demonic

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2019 7:53 PM

How can Mueller indict so many others around Trump and not find the links that implicate Trump? Fucking ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2019 7:53 PM

R11 White men covering a white man is the whole story here.

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2019 7:54 PM

Reminds me of the JFK head shot - which came from the front in total view on the Zapruder film - but the government insists all shots came from the rear - and 55 years later they still hold that position. We are fucked!

Rosenstein who agreed to wear a wire - signed off on this with Barr? WTF???????!!!!

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2019 7:54 PM

None of this makes any sense at all. Why were all of those people given immunity?

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2019 7:54 PM

Get ready for a second term of Trump and no impeachment

anything the Democrats do now will be made to look as highly partisan

The assholes on Fox, repubs and Trump will be crowing. Independents will now flock to their side again

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2019 7:54 PM

Mueller was always a REPUBLICAN.

Just remember that my children.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2019 7:55 PM

Just watch everything will swing now.

I hope the Democrats subpoena Mueller to testify in Congress ASAP

this is unfuckingbelievable

I hate this country so much

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2019 7:55 PM

I wonder if this has any merit to it:

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2019 7:55 PM

We now turn to the Southern District of New York to seek full justice.

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2019 7:56 PM

so now all we have are the past financial crimes of Trump to go on

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2019 7:56 PM

I dread hearing my fucking Trump supporting coworkers at work tomorrow. Plus my bracket is broken and my car is making a funny smell. I hate today

by Anonymousreply 23March 24, 2019 7:56 PM

This country is done. It was a good 240 year run, people. I’m sad that no one has any integrity in our government and that people accept it so blithely.

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2019 7:56 PM

I don't care if Dems continuing on looks Partisan. WHO GIVES A FUCK? Rethugs never do when they're doing it 24/7.

Time to grow some balls and play hard ball.

When someone goes low you don't go high, you go fucking lower knowing they will.

by Anonymousreply 25March 24, 2019 7:56 PM

R17 Like the Repubs are not highly partisan? It's game on. Dems need to fight to excite their base. If they roll over, no one will give them the time of day.

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2019 7:57 PM

His fast food, Adderall diet will catch up with him before 2020, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2019 7:58 PM

I think you folks are dreaming if you think that the State of New York or the Southern District are going to take down the President of the United States, now or after he leaves office. This is *not* that country.

by Anonymousreply 28March 24, 2019 7:58 PM

R25 the point is, we're probably going to lose 2020

this is awful

I hope Mueller testifies ASAP

I'm so pissed. All the Congressional hearings will be dismissed by independents now as partisan. Fuck the repubs but the independents matter for voting

by Anonymousreply 29March 24, 2019 7:58 PM

It took two years to find esentially nothing? The whole thing makes no sense, we’ve seen obstruction in public this whole time.

by Anonymousreply 30March 24, 2019 8:00 PM

Time for the House to use its subpoena power. It's now or never. This year is crucial. Blast Trump with everything they got.

by Anonymousreply 31March 24, 2019 8:00 PM
the point is, we're probably going to lose 2020

Don't be a Debbie Downer.

We always knew Mueller wasn't going to save us

by Anonymousreply 32March 24, 2019 8:00 PM

R26 the repubs are scum. They are of course always partisan. They have the benefit of Fox "News" behind them though

For all their cries about how biased the mainstream media is, the reality is mainstream media plays the both sides shit. Democrats do not have a version of Fox "News".

by Anonymousreply 33March 24, 2019 8:00 PM

Why are we supposed to take Bill Barr’s word for this?

We need the ACTUAL REPORT.

by Anonymousreply 34March 24, 2019 8:01 PM

If there's no there there, what is up with all those massive redacted passages in all those court filings about Manafort, Roger Stone, Wikileaks, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 35March 24, 2019 8:01 PM

He wasn't cleared of obstruction of justice, the government didn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt. This was after the then-Republican run Congress tied a lot of hands, and Dump refused a sit down interview with Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 36March 24, 2019 8:01 PM

How is this country going to survive another term of Trump? We will all have to learn Russian.

Is that what Robert Mueller wants? For our country to be run by Putin? Why? Who got to him? He just sold out everything he’s ever done in his entire life.

by Anonymousreply 37March 24, 2019 8:01 PM

I think it will get democrats off their ass even more because they were waiting on Superman/Mueller.

So now they have to get engaged and vote against all the horrible republican policies. Like seperating families, caging kids, flaming domestic terrorism, cutting social security and wasting money and resources on walls instead of infrastructure.

Focus on that going forward and it will be a landslide.

by Anonymousreply 38March 24, 2019 8:02 PM

People act as though Trump being racist and incompetent and destructive is not something that the Democrats can run on. Lol.

Also, why did Barr place the bit about "no collusion" in a footnote? That seems extremely odd. The letter seemed to want to focus much more on the area where Trump was NOT exonerated, obstruction of justice.

by Anonymousreply 39March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

The Dems in Congress need to stop sending polite letters, and start sending subpoenas. Time to play hardball.

by Anonymousreply 40March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

Mueller-

* No collusion (tacit or direct conspiracy)

* Obstruction: no exoneration, but not enough evidence to indict

Two years and over $25 million dollars spent to reach those conclusions, or non-conclusions.

by Anonymousreply 41March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

R28, you’re an idiot. The SDNY is going to nail Jared, Trumo Jr, Ivanka and Eric to the fucking wall. They will face jail time. This will drive Daddy insane and out of the White House.

by Anonymousreply 42March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

Why didn't Mueller subpoena him, then? Or his children? Something is fucked up about this whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 43March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

It’s a good thing that this chapter is closed. Not the larger issue of corruption, but no more waiting on Muller.

Take some time off the news and come back refreshed and ready to fight in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 44March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

Eric Swalwell said Friday that the House absolutely will subpoena Mueller if they have to.

by Anonymousreply 45March 24, 2019 8:03 PM

Yes, because "part 91" is necessary when this is over with.

by Anonymousreply 46March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

No collusion.

Just treason.

by Anonymousreply 47March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

It took two years to find esentially nothing? The whole thing makes no sense, we’ve seen obstruction in public this whole time.

I was thinking that too - all that investigating & the number of people surrounding Trump who went to jail, yet he found nothing?

by Anonymousreply 48March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

STOP THINKING THIS IS THE END, PEOPLE. IT'S NOT.

by Anonymousreply 49March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

Re the huge redactions in Mueller's sentencing memo on Manafort:

"The memo also contains larger blocks of redaction, including one that runs over a full page uninterrupted. That suggests that Mueller still has open investigations relating to Manafort and others...

Some of the redactions in the memo seem to protect the identities of people or companies who did business with Manafort, even though there are plenty of other names in the document that were released. Mueller may have ongoing business involving the names that have been blacked out.

While Mueller will reportedly wrap up his work soon, he will will pass ongoing investigations to other facets of the DOJ, including the Southern District of New York. This isn't over."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 50March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

Chuck Todd of all people is calling to release the full report.

by Anonymousreply 51March 24, 2019 8:04 PM

The "no obstruction" conclusion is not Mueller's. That's the conclusion of Barr and Rosenstein. Read the summary carefully.

by Anonymousreply 52March 24, 2019 8:05 PM

R29 Stop whining. Independents don't decide until the election is upon them. That's why Comey's stupid email stunt cause Hillary dearly. So we still have time to do a real Congressional investigation. Mueller left many unanswered questions, not to mention there are Trump's campaign finance crime and dirty money business/taxes to investigate.

by Anonymousreply 53March 24, 2019 8:05 PM

No one cares about this but the MSM and a handful of cranks.

by Anonymousreply 54March 24, 2019 8:05 PM

So now that we have the Barr summary, can we also get the original Mueller report?

This summary means nothing. And this is not like Mueller at all. He’s not a partisan hack.

by Anonymousreply 55March 24, 2019 8:05 PM

FINE.

OK, so let's turn to the other 5,432 reasons to throw this evil asshole out of office in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 56March 24, 2019 8:06 PM

"...the SDNY replaced the lead attorney on the Michael Cohen case with Audrey Strauss, famous for her defeat of Roy Cohn, lawyer for the Gambino crime family and Trump family attorney till his death. What’s the chances the SDNY decided to bring in the one attorney that beat Trump’s lucky charm, Roy Cohn?"

Americans have to be extraordinarily lazy and stupid to let someone like Trump become President, and to let a corporate news channel's summary of a four-page summary be the end-all of this.

The SDNY's immediate announcements, after Manafort's trial, after OSC's report was turned in, are worth paying attention to.

by Anonymousreply 57March 24, 2019 8:06 PM

So when. does Putin show up and take the keys to the U.S. government? Barr just fucked over the country. Democracy is over. The dictatorship is now. The system failed.

Miss Lindz is rejoicing.

by Anonymousreply 58March 24, 2019 8:07 PM

90 threads = 54,000 posts of complete bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 59March 24, 2019 8:07 PM

WE NEED THE ACTUAL REPORT,

BILL BARR WAS APPOINTED SO HE COULD PLAY DEFENSE FOR TRUMP.

by Anonymousreply 60March 24, 2019 8:08 PM

Kindly fuck off r59

by Anonymousreply 61March 24, 2019 8:08 PM

Exactly R59. Except for my posts.

by Anonymousreply 62March 24, 2019 8:08 PM

The only conclusion is Barr got to Mueller. We need Dems to do the investigation. Period. The real game starts now.

by Anonymousreply 63March 24, 2019 8:09 PM

R61, how many of those posts were yours? 😂

by Anonymousreply 64March 24, 2019 8:10 PM

"Where's your Mueller God now, Moses?"

by Anonymousreply 65March 24, 2019 8:10 PM

R42, if what you want is Trump escorted out of the White House or off the Capitol Portico in cuffs, I think you'll be disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 66March 24, 2019 8:10 PM

I guess what we saw with our own eyes from Pres Bone Spurs was wrong?????????

by Anonymousreply 67March 24, 2019 8:10 PM

It does not exonerate him.

So what about the money laundering and other shady activities?

by Anonymousreply 68March 24, 2019 8:12 PM

Yes, R67, we've all seen it, the obstruction, the calls to Russia to interfere in the election. It's right out there.

by Anonymousreply 69March 24, 2019 8:12 PM

R60 Yes, Barr cleaned up for Reagan and Bush 1, and he's cleaning up for Trump now. A true GOP scumbag.

by Anonymousreply 70March 24, 2019 8:12 PM

Barr made the determination of no obstruction, Mueller didn't. Be pissed at the AG.

by Anonymousreply 71March 24, 2019 8:12 PM

R66, I never said Trump will be escorted out of the White House in handcuffs. I thnk he’ll resign to “fight for his family.”

by Anonymousreply 72March 24, 2019 8:13 PM

Again, when you're a white, heterosexual, xtian, rich conservative male, you can do anything and get away with it

If there's 1 true thing Trump has said it's that he could shoot someone on 5th Ave and not lose a supporter. He probably wouldn't get indicted either at this point

by Anonymousreply 73March 24, 2019 8:13 PM

Watch for Fat Ass to address the nation tonight from the Oval Office.

by Anonymousreply 74March 24, 2019 8:14 PM

"Do you have any evidence that Trump obstructed justice?"

Me: (two years ago) "I don't know for sure."

Mueller: (two years and $25 million dollars later) "I don't know for sure."

by Anonymousreply 75March 24, 2019 8:14 PM
The only conclusion is Barr got to Mueller. We need Dems to do the investigation. Period. The real game starts now.

Barr is just as trustworthy as Bob Mueller. He’s given his life to serving this country and would never in a million years help conspire to let the Russian government take over the American Presidency. If there was anything pointing to collusion, Barr is a patriot who would vote to remove Trump in a 25th Amendment situation. So don’t even try that shit.

by Anonymousreply 76March 24, 2019 8:14 PM

we need the report to be released immediately because Trump, repubs and Fox "News" are going to weaponize this.

by Anonymousreply 77March 24, 2019 8:14 PM

Time to focus on issues and get back to 2020.

by Anonymousreply 78March 24, 2019 8:15 PM

So, Trump's written answers to Mueller's questions 100% checked out??

Not a SINGLE LIE in all those written answers?

The man who has lied more than 8,100 TIMES IN OFFICE did not lie ONCE in all those answers?

by Anonymousreply 79March 24, 2019 8:15 PM

So now people are turning on Mueller after he was praised as the knight in shining armor that will help oust Trump?

by Anonymousreply 80March 24, 2019 8:15 PM

R76 patriot? Barr advised Bush to pardon all those Reagan assholes in jail for Iran Contra

by Anonymousreply 81March 24, 2019 8:15 PM
we need the report to be released immediately because Trump, repubs and Fox "News" are going to weaponize this.

They’ve earned their day in the sun.

by Anonymousreply 82March 24, 2019 8:15 PM

Yes! OP, you win, just for that hideous picture.

by Anonymousreply 83March 24, 2019 8:15 PM

I’m out of here. Thanks everyone for keeping up the faith, but I’m staying off news until Election Day. I will be much happier without having to witness the destruction everyday. I’m just going to go to work, enjoy life and vote Democrats in for 2020.

by Anonymousreply 84March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

That’s bullshit, R76. Barr should release the whole report.

by Anonymousreply 85March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

all the more reason why Mueller should have subpoenaed Trump to testify verbally

by Anonymousreply 86March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

We'll see what Felix Sater has to say about it Wednesday. I hear he's bringing the samovar.

by Anonymousreply 87March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

What the hell is Rachel Maddow going to talk about now?

by Anonymousreply 88March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

Focus on the issues AND get the FULL report, that is.

by Anonymousreply 89March 24, 2019 8:16 PM

We don't know what Mueller said. All we know is what Barr is saying.

R72, and I'm the idiot? You're expecting a level of decency and loyalty of a man who's given no indication he's capable of either. He knows full well that his occupancy of the White House is his *only* leverage for himself.

by Anonymousreply 91March 24, 2019 8:17 PM

The fat lady has sung.

This report is over.

At this point, the news anchors are just reading the tea leaves hoping that something's there and that they weren't wrong this whole time.

Glenn Greenwald called it

by Anonymousreply 92March 24, 2019 8:17 PM

R80 If he failed spectacularly and revealed his GOP true colors, why now? But I would still want to see his report and not this bogus "summary" from a compromised AG.

by Anonymousreply 93March 24, 2019 8:17 PM

I hate white republicans they are scum

by Anonymousreply 94March 24, 2019 8:18 PM

So is Trumo a Mueller fan now?

by Anonymousreply 95March 24, 2019 8:18 PM

Okay, can the secret Apprentice tapes that have Trump using the N word be leaked now?

by Anonymousreply 96March 24, 2019 8:18 PM

Mueller is dirty, too..

by Anonymousreply 97March 24, 2019 8:18 PM

I think Mueller knew full well the fight to get the President in the witness chair wasn't going to be worth it. He wasn't going to try to get him on perjury.

by Anonymousreply 98March 24, 2019 8:18 PM

R92 And yet we have still not seen the actual report. You're mistaking Trump or Barr for the Fat Lady?

by Anonymousreply 99March 24, 2019 8:19 PM
We don't know what Mueller said. All we know is what Barr is saying.

It would be criminal for Barr to lie. Not to mention foolish—Bob Mueller would see to it that the truth was heard if they tried to cover up his findings.

by Anonymousreply 100March 24, 2019 8:19 PM

As someone else here said, this entire investigation was just a safety valve for the people who were freaking out about the 2016 election to blow off some steam. That's why Mueller took so long.

by Anonymousreply 101March 24, 2019 8:19 PM

Rachel Maddow will continue on but I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a dip in ratings now. Who can possibly tune in to her after she spent two years of broadcast time speculating?

by Anonymousreply 102March 24, 2019 8:20 PM

Life long Democrat here. I am glad the President has been cleared of being a Russian asset. That's the part that always bothered me the most and I'm glad it seems he's not compromised.

On the other hand, he's a criminal, a dirtbag and a scary motherfucker. I'd like to see him taken down but I respect and believe the report.
Rachel Maddow will continue on but I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a dip in ratings now. Who can possibly tune in to her after she spent two years of broadcast time speculating?

A dip? She’ll probably lose a million viewers.

by Anonymousreply 104March 24, 2019 8:20 PM

R103 And yet Trump is still hiding what he discussed with Putin. Yeah, put your trust on a compromised AG's summary.

by Anonymousreply 105March 24, 2019 8:21 PM

Barr has also made it clear that he will take his own sweet time releasing the actual report, so his claims about the report will be the only thing people talk about.

by Anonymousreply 106March 24, 2019 8:21 PM

The trolling in here gives me faith... this is obviously not over.

They're still worried.

by Anonymousreply 107March 24, 2019 8:21 PM

Why do we assume collusion = no more Trump? I doubt the GOP would remove him. They don’t care because Trump voters don’t care.

by Anonymousreply 108March 24, 2019 8:21 PM

Mueller was told by Trump et al that they would take the Fifth if they were deposed. But he should have interviewed them anyway..filmed them so their shadiness was there for all to see.

by Anonymousreply 109March 24, 2019 8:23 PM

The thought of trump's shit-eating grin makes me sick.

by Anonymousreply 110March 24, 2019 8:23 PM

He is still a Russian asset. They just didn't prove collusion when it was right there out in the open.

by Anonymousreply 111March 24, 2019 8:23 PM

I was always afraid he was going to get away with it, but I’m a hardcore pessimist.

There’s still the SDNY, I guess...

R485, from the previous thread: there is a section of the report that the public or anyone else in the WH, will not have access to, & that section is the information given to our intelligence agencies, such as the CIA, and the FBI.

That information will not be made public, nor can it be shared with Trump himself.

FYI.

by Anonymousreply 115March 24, 2019 8:24 PM
Barr has also made it clear that he will take his own sweet time releasing the actual report, so his claims about the report will be the only thing people talk about.

He released Mueller’s summary, in Mueller’s own words. What the hell do you need the report for?

by Anonymousreply 117March 24, 2019 8:25 PM

R106 That why the Dem House needs to take back control of the narrative from compromised Barr. They need to interview Mueller on all the questions about Trump campaign's contact with Russia that are still unanswered.

by Anonymousreply 118March 24, 2019 8:26 PM

Is Mueller done after this report? Has his group disbanded? They are literally in the middle of several trials and sentencing hearings and negotiations. There are still a ton of unsealed indictments. They don't just go away because a report, most likely pushed by Barr's timeline, was issued. He's been funded through September. The grand jury is still in place until July. The DoJ announcing something and reality are not always the same thing anymore, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 119March 24, 2019 8:26 PM

The Lifelong Democrat post is a bijou.

by Anonymousreply 123March 24, 2019 8:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 124March 24, 2019 8:27 PM

R104, that's a dip.

What anchor speculates on one story/investigation for two years?

Every time I tuned in Rachel was talking about Russia. She barely talked about anything else for balanced coverage like the border separations, Flint, disgruntled farmers in Iowa effected by tariffs, the increase in hate crimes across the country, the new heartbeat bills trying to ban and make abortion impossible, the voting ID restrictions, teacher strikes, the Dakota Pipeline, Yemen famine and crisis, Betsy Devos and whatever hell she is unleashing on public education that isn't reported on.

She wasted two years of coverage that could've actually informed and mobilized the public against Trump on a conspiracy

by Anonymousreply 125March 24, 2019 8:29 PM

R121 It's the ART OF CORRUPTION.

by Anonymousreply 126March 24, 2019 8:29 PM

Her viewers are not critical thinkers. In fact, I think they enjoy being brainwashed.

by Anonymousreply 130March 24, 2019 8:29 PM

How is it possible that two Trump appointees get to make the determination regarding obstruction? Especially Barr, who hasn't even been in office a full two months. That's obviously why they were put there, but it's so transparent, and reeks of bias.

by Anonymousreply 131March 24, 2019 8:30 PM

The Democrats dragging Mueller before Congress will just make them look like sore losers.

Thank God that Nancy Pelosi’s in charge and knows to move on. She’d already taken impeachment off the table because she knew the Mueller Report would be a dud.

It’s time to move forward. We have a simple mission: to nominate a Democratic candidate who can win the states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan while holding onto the states Hillary won in 2016. That puts us over 270 and removes Trump the only way we ever could: at the ballot box. Forget this Russia bullshit. Relegate it to a whisper campaign if it will help us in 2020, but that’s it.

by Anonymousreply 132March 24, 2019 8:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 135March 24, 2019 8:31 PM

Richard Nixon did the same shit. He had people working for him declare him innocent.

Was Nixon innocent? NO. Is Trump innocent because his appointee declared it? NO.

by Anonymousreply 136March 24, 2019 8:31 PM

But but he said Mueller was not to be trusted, that he was a crook. Are we to believe him NOW? Our own "president" said this about Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 137March 24, 2019 8:32 PM

I think CNN and MSNBC have alot of responsibility in making Trump successful. It's almost intentional. They want him to win

Cable news ratings across the board were in the toilet before Trump announced. Trump is the oxygen they depend on

I think many here are confused as to what this all means.

Trump has not been found innocent of obstruction of justice. There is a reason behind the obstruction. The full report, minus the classified intelligence submission, will give us all a comprehensive overview of what Mueller’s findings are.

Again, no collusion is very specific language. It does NOT mean no conspiracy, nor does it mean no collusion, or no money laundering for foreign assets.

Please read up on the legalese regarding this case, and once the report is released, you will have a more informed understanding of what this is, what it means, and what we’re actually dealing with.

Stop the myopic vision. It is an incorrect way of viewing this.

This isn’t over in the way that Trump & the Republicans want everyone to believe it’s over.

by Anonymousreply 143March 24, 2019 8:34 PM

OJ was found 'not guilty.' Trump is 'not exonerated.' Latitude aplenty in that phrase, backed up with voluminous facts, to silence Trump. He's by no means smugly walking free like OJ did.

by Anonymousreply 144March 24, 2019 8:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 145March 24, 2019 8:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 146March 24, 2019 8:34 PM

I'll be curious to see what old Nancy's next move is. She's nobody's fool - and likely saw this coming - so it will be interesting to see how she plays it.

I want to believe that it's not really over, on the other hand, I can't help but thinking I'm just on the opposite side of the fence from those fools who kept insisting Benghazi was a conspiracy, when it turns out the whole thing was just some tragic clusterfuck with deadly consequences.

by Anonymousreply 157March 24, 2019 8:42 PM

The fact that he actually put in his summary that Mueller's report DID NOT exonerate Dotard means there's a whole lot of shit in the report and he couldn't NOT put that in. out.

by Anonymousreply 158March 24, 2019 8:42 PM

We all saw him admit to firing Comey because of the "Russian thing." That was obstruction, yet Mueller could not figure it out. With the racist in charge of everything, what have good Americans got left?

by Anonymousreply 159March 24, 2019 8:42 PM

The only reason that was put in the summary was insurance in case the full report gets out.

by Anonymousreply 160March 24, 2019 8:43 PM

None of this makes any sense. It just doesn't. We all have eyes. We watched trump commit obstruction. We read trump camp emails where they can't wait to meet with Russians and Wikileaks.

And what the fuck is up with Michael Flynn? The guy's actions were so bad his judge called it treason in open court. But Mueller recommended a tiny little slap on the wrist for Flynn. We all assumed it was because Flynn had flipped on someone bigger, and the only person bigger was trump.

So Mueller, Mr. Captain America, let a goddamn traitor go with a slap on the wrist because.......why, exactly? And on top of that, Flynn STILL isn't in jail. He's running around America giving speeches and leading chants of lock her up.

And everyone on these threads who said Rosenstein couldn't be trusted were apparently right all along.

by Anonymousreply 161March 24, 2019 8:44 PM

I can imagine what he’s going to say about this:

“Haha, I got away with it you dumb bitches. Now I’m going to enjoy spending the rest of this term and the whole next one fucking America in the ass! And when the financial crash and Great Depression 2.0 comes along, and the whole country is bankrupt, I don’t have to worry because Putin will thank me with a fancy dacha and an income for life! Meanwhile, you fuckers will be living in cardboard boxes and fighting over rats in the street! Hahaha!”

by Anonymousreply 162March 24, 2019 8:44 PM

Once Barr was confirmed, the FIX was in. It's his job to make crimes go away. Mueller either folded or is playing a deeper game than we know.

by Anonymousreply 163March 24, 2019 8:44 PM

The investigation proves trump colluded, at least to some extent. And I don’t mean what Mueller reported in his results.

I mean the way Trump raged against it, especially as time wore on and it got closer to being released. If there was no collusion, why would he have raged like that?

Anyway, mission accomplished. This investigation crippled Trump’s presidency, led to the guilty pleas and/or convictions of multiple Trump cronies, and has opened a Pandora’s box on trump’s ass that’s going to keep giving and giving and giving ....

by Anonymousreply 164March 24, 2019 8:45 PM

Mueller is a snake in the grass and I am not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 165March 24, 2019 8:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 167March 24, 2019 8:47 PM
no collusion is very specific language. It does NOT mean no conspiracy, nor does it mean no money laundering for foreign assets.

Barr's summary quotes directly from Mueller's report:

"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

So Mueller himself is saying there was no evidence that they colluded, conspired or coordinated.

by Anonymousreply 168March 24, 2019 8:49 PM

No one will ever top Roy Cohn, who was even a bigger scumbag than Trump.

Anyone who knew Cohn will tell you the same thing: he had no moral high ground, and was one of the dirtiest people to have ever walked the face of the earth.

Had Cohn been born a few years earlier, and in Germany, he could have rivaled Hitler. And I don’t say that lightly, nor with disregard to who Hitler was, or what he did.

It is so simple to read up on Cohn, and what kind of life he led, yet for some strange reason, the Republicans and FOX, never speak about Cohn, or write about him. Come to think about it, neither does the general MSM.

Cohn was a HORRIBLE human being, & please allow me to be crystal clear: my estimation regarding him, has NOTHING to do with him having been gay.

No way can you have this man as a mentor, best friend, & primary legal advisor, as Trump did, & not be as dirty as he was. No fucking way.

Good, decent, ethical, & moral people do not associate with the likes of Roy Cohn.

by Anonymousreply 169March 24, 2019 8:49 PM
So Mueller, Mr. Captain America, let a goddamn traitor go with a slap on the wrist because.....why, exactly?

Except he didn't. Barr's (and allegedly Rosenstein's) conclusions/summary does not equal Mueller's actual report.

And Turd just told another lie: he is NOT "completely exonerated".

by Anonymousreply 174March 24, 2019 8:52 PM

Ah, yes, give Republicans a pass ONCE AGAIN for their behavior. Because that's been working out so well since 1980.

You better hope that your warm and fuzzy feelings about 2020 also include getting the house and Senate. Because if you let this shit slide, and there's a Republican majority in either (or both) you can forget them wanting to work with the democratic president, and doing everything they can to obstruct him until the next Republican comes along.

At some point, this pattern really needs to be stopped. How many more times do Democrats want the country to be near the brink of destruction before they do something?

by Anonymousreply 175March 24, 2019 8:52 PM
No he’s not saying there’s “no evidence.” He’s saying it wasn’t ESTABLISHED.

Sure, I know. But the other poster was saying that there could have been conspiracy or coordination, even if there was no collusion. I was pointing out that Mueller's report mentioned all three.

by Anonymousreply 176March 24, 2019 8:52 PM

“Trump administration passed more sanctions against Russia and Venezuela.”

Link?

This is another right wing lie.

by Anonymousreply 177March 24, 2019 8:53 PM

Shame on Mueller for not getting Trump on perjury. That right there shows you where Mueller's true loyalties are.

by Anonymousreply 178March 24, 2019 8:53 PM

I don't understand why any of you thought that this report would make a difference one way or another. In the era of alternative facts and the labeling of mainstream fact-based news as fake news, even a very damning report would have been dismissed by his supporters and the spineless mainstream Republicans in office who fear his supporters.

I live in Trump country and I knew this report would have made no difference either way. As others have noted it's time to look to 2020 and nominate someone electable. Not somebody ideologically pure, who agrees with you on every issue. Not someone who "deserves it". Someone who can stand up to Trump's abuse and ridicule and respond smartly to it.

We need someone who. will make a compelling case for a positive hopeful future that addresses the concerns of those people who thought that electing a businessman would lead to them having a better job prospects and reviving the industrial base.

We also need someone who's smart enough not to demonize huge swathes of the electorate by calling them deplorable. Deplorable or not, they truly are highly motivated voters, and if we can't sway them to our side we can at least not make them more excited about voting for Trump by demonizing them. The Russian trolls understand that the more divided we are, the more likely we are to elect Putin's best friend.

If the Access Hollywood pussy grabbing audio tape or the revelation he cheated on his pregnant wife with a Playboy model and a porn actress did not bring him down certainly collusion would not have either.

If you want Trump out, you need to support the next Democratic candidate candidate no matter how flawed he or she is.
my big fear now is that more moderates will start tuning into Fox "News" because they'll think the mainstream media has been lying to them the whole time about Trump

I hate to say this, and I will surely be called a troll, but can you blame them? Throughout 2016, they were told that Hillary would win the election. The only question was by how big of a margin. Then, once Trump took office, they were told that the Mueller report would be damaging for Trump and lead to impeachment. Can you blame them for not trusting the mainstream media?

The media have become too fixated on opinion and speculation and punditry. If they would focus on reporting the facts they know to be true rather than having talking heads speculate wildly on what might happen in the future, they wouldn't find themselves with egg on their faces.

by Anonymousreply 213March 24, 2019 9:08 PM

I don't know where anyone is getting he's been cleared, Mueller did NOT clear the president. The house judiciary committee is calling for BARR to explain Barrs discrepancies.

Mueller said he would not prosecute a sitting president.

That is not the same thing as trump is innocent.

by Anonymousreply 214March 24, 2019 9:09 PM

"Here’s the thing, though: at least given what they lay out here, they only considered whether Trump was covering up his involvement in the hack-and-leak operation. It doesn’t consider whether Trump was covering up a quid pro quo, which is what there is abundant evidence of.

They didn’t consider whether Trump obstructed the crime that he appears to have obstructed. They considered whether he obstructed a different crime. And having considered whether Trump obstructed the crime he didn’t commit, rather than considering whether he obstructed the crime he did commit, they decided not to charge him with a crime."

Why were Jared and Ivanka meeting Wendy Deng in Croatia? Why did Russia funnel 25M into NRA? Why is Maria Butina under arrest? Cohen takes the fall for being the Trump bad guy? Flynn gets off with a slap on wrist when the judge wanted to try him for treason? Princes Seyshells meeting? The Steel Dossier? None of this connects. You've got to be kidding me.

by Anonymousreply 227March 24, 2019 9:19 PM

Barr's letter is utter bullshit. It states things as fact that we know for sure are not true - such as the "investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 election." We KNOW this is bullshit, because we know about Jr's meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower (just for starters). Are we seriously supposed to believe they talked about bake sales (or adoption, or whatever the fuck else they made up)? And what about the change of platform to be pro-Russia at the GOP conference?

This letter is the most egregious case of attempted gaslighting of a nation I have ever seen by its government. If the Democrats in Congress let this stand without insisting on seeing the full report and supporting evidence, they are almost as much of a disgrace as the asshole who wrote this letter. And Mueller is either being misrepresented, his whole purpose was to cover for the GOP, or he's an incompetent idiot who should never have been charged with this investigation in the first place.

I am seriously concerned at this point that the USA is done as a nation that can hope to be respected on any level.

by Anonymousreply 228March 24, 2019 9:19 PM

Cue the pardons. Manafort and Stone are going to be MIGHTILY rewarded for their silence and loyalty during this investigation. Trump will frame them as victims of a witch hunt and pardon them. And you know what? He will get away with it. We are in a post law and order Executive Branch when it comes to Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 229March 24, 2019 9:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 250March 24, 2019 9:32 PM

R241 We don't know. All we know for sure is that whatever they were doing, didn't have anything to do with election interference. That's all Mueller was appointed to investigate. It doesn't mean there wasn't a conspiracy, and it certainly doesn't mean no crimes were committed. It only means they didn't involve any effort to interfere in the election.

by Anonymousreply 251March 24, 2019 9:32 PM
The Special Counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. As the report states: “[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

R251 We know that's not true just by Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russians and their subsequent lies about it. That reveal their intent to collude. Many believe the DNC hacking is the direct result of this collusion. This is harder to prove given that Russia does a thorough job of obstructing investigation and covering up.

by Anonymousreply 258March 24, 2019 9:38 PM

Barr’s summary of the Mueller Report was written & distributed without review/input from Mueller.

Hillary colluded with CNN to cover her instead of Bernie.

Trump colluded with Wikileaks to get DNC emails that came from their own leaks. Probably from that Seth guy that got murdered in DC

DNC still refuses to turn over server to the FBI to look for the Russian hack. They said they only want their own privately hired cyber security firm to investigate their server lol. That's because the DNC Wikileaks dump came from an insider there-probably a disgruntled 20 something Bernie bro angry at the favoritism for Hillary

by Anonymousreply 263March 24, 2019 9:44 PM

Barr states that Mueller only looked for links between Trump/his campaign and the IRA (the hackers) ....he did not look into any other links and/or if Trump was an asset.

Barr met with Rosenstein and white house counsel (Barrs son works there) to determine the outcome for his letter.....Mueller did not consult.

I find it hard to believe that all those people and all those secret meetings were coincidental....Prince, Nader, Junior, etc.....

by Anonymousreply 266March 24, 2019 9:48 PM

I don’t believe that we will ever be told what REALLY happened, due to reasons that we aren’t aware of, and mainly, for national security purposes.

I never, EVER believed Trump was going to be indicted, or impeached, which is why I chose to not participate in any of these threads, until today. However, please let me give MAJOR props to our DataLounger who ever so cleverly titled these threads, managed their output and references, and to all the DLers who participated faithfully, while offering some very good insight, & some really funny shit.

Trump and his cronies are as dirty as they come, and this report means very little to me.

by Anonymousreply 267March 24, 2019 9:49 PM

So if you cheat and coordinate and do business with Russian citizens interested in helping you beat your opponent that is okay? Not understanding the logic here.

by Anonymousreply 268March 24, 2019 9:52 PM

Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 presidential election is predicated on Russian intelligence having hacked the Democratic National Committee’s computers. Russia’s guilt is such an article of faith among our political class, that a Republican-controlled Congress imposed sanctions and President Trump signed on, substantially worsening relations with an important and potentially dangerous nation. Outside the Acela Corridor, however, one finds more skepticism.

Alot of ordinary folks wonder why the DNC wouldn’t let any outside parties examine their server. Instead, the FBI accepted the word of CrowdStrike, a private contractor hired by the DNC, without any independent confirmation. And a bunch of not so ordinary folks who know a thing or two about computers thinks there may be a simple explanation for the DNC’s unwillingness to let outsiders have a peek at the evidence: There isn’t any. The Russian hacking that’s caused so much division and turmoil at home and abroad never really happened. It was all a ruse concocted by CrowdStrike.

The sentence I quoted was Barr's: "The Special Counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election." That, as I stated, is utter, gaslighting bullshit. We KNOW they did from the information that is in the public domain.

The quote from the report says: "[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

That does not state what Barr says it does, and anyone who doesn't get that has failed reading comprehension in class. When a lawyer says that something is "not established", that means that they don't have sufficient proof to prove it in court (with something like 90% certainty). It does not mean that there aren't great big signs leading one to believe that's what happened; it means everyone lied their asses off, and legally it cannot be proven. Also NOTE: Muller says "the Russian GOVERNMENT", which Barr then changes to "Russia". It's easy to believe that Mueller couldn't establish proof of Trump coordination with the Russian GOVERNMENT - that's not who Putin used to do his dirty work. But all the fucking oligarchs and others the Trump bunch were cosying up to aren't part of the Russian "government."

Barr is choosing his words carefully to spin what the report says, because of fucking course he is. Until everyone can read the actual report, and then probably Congress will need to grill Mueller for further clarification, this is all just a game of spin and gaslighting by Barr on behalf of Trump.

One such skeptic is an anonymous journalist and computer aficionado who goes by the pseudonym “Adam Carter.” Carter has spent the last couple of years cataloging evidence, unearthed by himself and others, that CrowdStrike engaged in a disinformation campaign, inventing not just a fake Russian hack but also a fake hacker called “Guccifer 2.0.” Much, but by no means all, of Carter’s evidence is technical. And he’s unquestionably found an inconsistency in the Russia narrative that ought to raise doubts in even the most computer illiterate congressman’s mind.

Julian Assange’s Threat But first, why on earth would a private contractor hired by the DNC engage in such tactics? For motive, we need to go back to June 12, 2016, when Wikileaks founder Julian Assange made an announcement that was sure to worry Hillary Clinton and her closest advisers:

We have upcoming leaks in relation to Hillary Clinton . . . We have emails pending publication.

A little less than three months earlier, on March 19, hostile actors had gotten ahold of all the emails in campaign chairman John Podesta’s main Gmail account. You may have heard that Podesta’s emails were “hacked,” but they weren’t. There were no faraway cyber-nerds searching for some vulnerability in the DNC network. He fell for a common “spear phishing” scam. A fake email from Google arrived, saying he needed to change his password and providing a link. The link was also fake. Instead of changing his password, Podesta gave it away—along with all of his campaign emails.

by Anonymousreply 277March 24, 2019 9:56 PM

Oops

by Anonymousreply 278March 24, 2019 9:59 PM

I think Mueller took a very narrow approach - he could not verify any coordination with the Russian government. Russians sure, but not the government. To my mind they are the same, so what was he expecting? A contract or confidential letter? They don’t work that way. As for obstruction, Trump admired this on TV.

This feels like Republicans letting Republicans off the hook.

by Anonymousreply 279March 24, 2019 9:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 282March 24, 2019 10:00 PM

Whoops! The Clinton campaign learned of Podesta’s blunder almost immediately and must have suspected that the emails Assange was threatening to release were his. Moreover, on that date, a lot of the revelations contained therein would have been salient—and not in a good way.

Just six days before, with Clinton still 570 delegates short of the 2,382 needed to win the Democratic nomination, the Associated Press angered Bernie Sanders and his supporters by claiming that she’d already won. The New York Times, CNN, NBC News, USA Today, and The Washington Post all followed suit, declaring Sanders’ loss a fait accompli. But it wasn’t. The AP arrived at its numbers by polling unpledged superdelegates, who couldn’t vote until the convention and were free to change their minds or even to deceive the AP.

Sanders supporters had been angry about the role superdelegates played in the nominating process for months. Sanders himself complained about it just one week before Assange’s announcement and a day before the media began writing his campaign’s obituary:

My problem is that the process today has allowed Secretary Clinton to get the support of over 400 superdelegates before any other Democratic candidate was in the race. The next day’s headlines prematurely declaring Clinton’s victory brought Sanders’ supporters long-simmering anger to a boil. His spokesman blasted the corporate media’s “rush to judgement”:

Secretary Clinton does not have and will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to secure the nomination. She will be dependent on superdelegates who do not vote until July 25 and who can change their minds between now and then.

For the rest of the week, the big election story was whether Sanders would exit the race gracefully and encourage his followers to forgive, forget, and rally round Hillary Clinton. But just 12 hours after Assange’s announcement, Sanders emerged from a meeting with his top advisors, refusing to concede and reiterating his determination not to let the media gaslight his candidacy into a lost cause:

"[W]e are going to take our campaign to the convention with the full understanding that we’re very good in arithmetic and that we know who has received the most votes up until now."

The Immensity of Podesta’s Blunder Podesta’s blunder had the potential to damage Hillary Clinton’s already precarious reputation with voters regardless of their feelings about Bernie Sanders. In some of his pilfered emails, top Clinton advisors, including Podesta himself, insulted her abilities and her ethics, commented on her poor health, made disparaging remarks about Catholics, Muslims, blacks, and Latinos, and complained that Clinton wanted “unaware and compliant” voters.

Many of Podesta’s emails also contradict claims made in defense of the private email server Clinton used as Secretary of State. Others reveal that the FBI investigation into the matter was anything but unbiased. At a minimum, the emails prove the Clinton campaign knew from the beginning that she was breaking the law.

It’s easy to forget how serious an issue Clinton’s private server was on June 12, 2016, three weeks before FBI Director James Comey publicly exonerated her. A few weeks earlier, the State Department had sharply rebuked Clinton for violating department rules, generating unpleasant headlines like, “Hillary Clinton’s email problems just got much worse.”

A June 1 Morning Consult poll found that about half of voters thought her private email server was “illegal, unethical and a major problem,” with a quarter of Democrats agreeing. There’s little question that Assange’s threat would have made the poll disturbingly salient to Clinton and her top advisers.

If he wasn't conspiring with Russia regarding the election, why did Paul Manafort give Trump campaign internal polling data to Konstantin Kilimnik, a man Mueller himself alleges is a Russian spy? He just had the shit on hand and gave it over for no reason? Kony is just really into polling data? That was a member of the Trump campaign conspiring with Russia to effect the 2016 election. William Barr is full of shit.

Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. His deplorable comments about McCain last week were a glimpse into the dark recesses of his mind. If he hadn't run for POTUS the world may have mistaken him for a genius billionaire. But this is a sick mind.

He will trip up. And he will go down in flames.

by Anonymousreply 296March 24, 2019 10:16 PM

I want to see Trump’s written answers.

Seth Abramson:

"Well, I thought there was *no* evidence Trump colluded *via secret agreement with the IRA or Russian hackers*—I always said that—so [bold]now[/bold] I want to know why Mueller said he wasn't able to "exonerate" Trump on that allegation. I mean—wow."

"On Obstruction, once Congress gets all Mueller's hard evidence, they should proceed with impeachment (or at worst, wait for other federal prosecutors to finish their collusion investigations). Why? Because if the *public evidence* made a [bold]prima facie[/bold] case—it did—so did Mueller."

"PS/ As ever, my concern about the media *isn't* an accusation of bad faith: I think people are rushin'—and don't understand certain things they *need* to understand to do their jobs well tonight, like *what the collusion allegation actually was*—so threads like this are critical."

by Anonymousreply 300March 24, 2019 10:23 PM

Also, that STUPID policy of “not indicting a siting President” was created by a man who was no more wise or holy than Mueller or the current AG. He just got there first.

Dore’s sentiments are being echoed around the small sphere of progressive political commentators who’ve been saying since the beginning that Russiagate was a pernicious lie advanced by secretive government agencies who’ve been plotting to shove Russia off the world stage since the fall of the Soviet Union, by the Democrats who’ve had a vested interest in avoiding accountability for their failures and malfeasance in the 2016 election, and by the mass media who’ve been reaping extreme profits by peddling the clickbait sensationalist conspiracy theory that the Kremlin has infiltrated the highest levels of the US government.

And rightly so. It is good that these alternative media figures are puffing their chests and shouting their I-told-you-sos, because you can be absolutely certain that the people who’ve been advancing the Russiagate narrative will never go out of their way to acknowledge the undeniable fact that they have been proven wrong while there were voices standing to their left getting it right. The mainstream narrative will do its very best to pace mainstream attention away from the inconvenient fact that there was abundant evidence contradicting a narrative which monopolized public energy for more than two years while manufacturing support for dangerous cold war escalations and sucking all oxygen out of the room for discussion of progressive reforms, so it is absolutely necessary for those voices who have been vindicated to make noise about it themselves.

How’s this one looking?” asked Aaron Maté on Twitter, linking to a post he made last year correctly predicting the outcome of the Mueller investigation: “My prediction, FWIW: 0 indictments/claims of a Trump-Russia conspiracy. Mueller throws faithful a bone w/ suggestive wording like ‘questionable/suspicious/unexplained’ activity. We’re left w/ indictments unrelated to collusion/campaign, or for process crimes resulting from probe.”

“Russiagate skeptics will be vindicated as we expected to be, but those responsible for this fake neocon intrigue got a new Cold War, record defense budgets, and a McCarthyite political atmosphere to denigrate opponents of permanent war,” tweeted journalist Max Blumenthal. “A waste of energy and a setback for peace.” “Early on, I argued with Rep. Jamie Raskin that Trump should be opposed on a principled, progressive basis — not with a phony intel intrigue cooked up by spooks and Clinton dead enders,” Blumenthal added. “Like most Dems, he went with Russiagate & wound up emboldening Trump.” “For almost three years I’ve been lambasted every single day for ‘defending Trump’ because I rejected that there was ample evidence for a Trump/Russia global espionage conspiracy,” tweeted journalist Michael Tracey. “You know who was really ‘defending Trump’ after all? The people who promoted this nonsense.” “I’m not gleeful — just disgusted that much of the US media spent 2 years spreading baseless (but very dangerous) conspiracy theories and mindlessly believing what their CIA, NSA and FBI sources whispered to them without seeing evidence — yet again,” tweeted journalist Glenn Greenwald. “The Mueller news is exactly what I expected and told you would happen,” tweeted Secular Talk’s Kyle Kulinski. “But relax, centrist dems, I also predicted that when Trump is no longer POTUS he will be indicted on financial crimes, and this will also come to pass.”

As I said in my pinned thread—which I hope those with a moment will read and retweet—the only surprising thing about Mueller's conclusions re: a Trump-IRA/Trump-GRU conspiracy is that he apparently *did* find some evidence (if not enough) when frankly I thought there was none.

5/ If Mueller had said that there's no evidence Trump's Russia policy is the result of bribery—and constitutes aiding and abetting Russia's interference efforts *after the fact*—I'd be outraged, and would say that Democrats should be outraged. But that's *not* what happened here.

On Obstruction, Congress remains the only body that can or will speak finally to the issue. On collusion, the investigation of what Democrats have called "collusion" *continues*.

Two Options: 1) We the American People were either Royally Fucked in a way we have never been before Or 2) There is Still more to Come and this is a temporary Feint by Mueller to appease the Orange Beast, buy time, and try the Trump family and it's treasonous Colleagues in the New York Legal system so that thesr Criminals cannot evade justice. If the former is true, than not only are Democrats Fucked, but even the miserable, cretinous Deplorable worshippers doomed, because they will inevitably face thw justice they supremely deserve as Trump puts the final nails into the coffin of America with his terrifying and destructive policies.

by Anonymousreply 305March 24, 2019 10:30 PM

Clear-eyed leftists got Russiagate right while everyone else got it wrong because they were the only group ideologically positioned to do so. People defending Trump on the right were doing so out of blind partisan loyalty while ignoring out of necessity what has long been the single most damning piece of evidence against Russiagate: the fact that Trump has been advancing insanely aggressive escalations against Russia and its allies, thereby showing him to be at least as much of a neocon-coddling establishment crony as his predecessors. Those advancing the narrative from the Democratic Party-aligned “center” are far too eager for any excuse to bust Trump and far too trusting of the same mass media outlets which lied us into the Iraq war. This leaves only the true left (EDIT: and a few principled libertarians and nonpartisans) to see things with lucidity, and only the most lucid among them saw it. For a clear-eyed leftist, it’s been an exhausting couple of years. The effort to hold on to facts and evidence while being buffeted by relentless waves of gaslighting propaganda has been tough and many have lost friends and allies on the way. These lies have created a highly toxic environment by leeching poison into the natural discourse and halting the progression of our species. Most people who got swept up in the Russiagate fervor were manipulated by their disgust for Trump and their desire to get him out, no matter if it was true or not. I think the great lesson here is that you can’t out-manipulate the grand manipulators. You have to stick to the truth even when it appears to go against your own self interests because your ego has levers and it can be used to puppet you. If you always value the highest interest over your self interest then you can’t be played. Demand evidence and keep demanding it until you get it. If you do, change your mind, if you don’t, stick to your guns. That’s the only way we’ll get out of here alive.

So, a question for us DataLoungers: Do most, or any of us here actually understand the gravity of what it would mean to our national security, if we were to reveal to the world at large, that the POTUS is a traitor, who engaged in treason?

Please, stop & consider the ramifications and consequences of this.

What could be worse than a traitor in the WH? The entire world learning that a traitor is in the WH.

We are being told very little, so there is no victory or loss, in any of it. That’s not what this is about.

What it IS about, is sending a message to others who would consider conspiring with a foreign government, hostile or otherwise.

R307, Ronald Reagan, Nixon, and both Bushes were traitors who colluded with foreign enemies. McCain is a traitor too for wanting to find ISIS.

If Trump is a traitor for colliding with Putin which has been debunked, then he is simply following Republican tradition.

Stop being manipulated into thinking Trump is an anomaly in our government.

Bush was friends with Bin Laden family. Reagan wanted the hostages to remain detained until Carter was out of office.

Trump's purported crimes are nothing compared to his dead predecessors (McCain, Poppy Bush, Reagan) that are now seen as great men.

“In light of the very concerning discrepancies and final decision making at the Justice Department following the Special Counsel report, where Mueller did not exonerate the President, we will be calling Attorney General Barr in to testify before @HouseJudiciary in the near future,” Nadler said on Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 329March 24, 2019 11:14 PM

Sad day for America. Barr and Rosenstein decide case closed before anyone reads the report or other investigations are concluded. And who decided collusion only encompassed two kinds of activity? That seems counterintuitive to a real investigation and ignores all the other public Trump fawning over Putin. What if Trump is being blackmailed. Is that in the report?

by Anonymousreply 330March 24, 2019 11:23 PM

According to some legal experts, Barr and Rosenstein shouldn't be deciding if Trump is guilty of obstruction and that it's up to Congress. While they are overseeing the Special Counsel, there's a reason why they aren't conducting it themselves.

by Anonymousreply 331March 24, 2019 11:27 PM

That was the point of getting him in there in the first place, R329. If I recall, there was something sketchy in the manner in which Rosenstein ended up in his position.

How could he? What kind of paper trail is there? He didn’t pay anyone off or say anything so transparently obstructive that it’s been essentially proven. He just did a lot of highly suspicious shit.

Look at the people who have been charged and pled or been convicted. Then ask yourself WHY. What is there in those cases that’s missing? A paper trail. Bank accounts. Disclosure statements falsified. The sort of thing that can be PROVEN.

by Anonymousreply 346March 24, 2019 11:49 PM

And by the way that’s the sort of thing that will bring the Trump family down. It’s going to happen. Count on it. Collusion? Yeah right. Crimes that can be verified. Yep. Lots of them.

by Anonymousreply 348March 24, 2019 11:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 370March 25, 2019 12:36 AM

One of the impeachment charges against Pres Clinton was obstruction of justice for lying to Kenneth Starr.

But Trump firing Comey to make the investigation go away, trying to get Mueller fired, trying to get Sessions to un-recuse, trying to get SDNY head Berman to un-recuse those are all just hunky dory with Mueller and Barr, no obstruction there.

by Anonymousreply 371March 25, 2019 12:39 AM
Mueller was NOT consulted on today’s Barr letter.

Do you have any source for that?

by Anonymousreply 376March 25, 2019 12:43 AM
“[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

What we need to see are the sentences before and after this. And, the paragraphs. And, the pages.

The Barr's Notes version is bullshit without the context.

by Anonymousreply 377March 25, 2019 12:44 AM

I think now we can say AG Barr is the one who's obstructing justice. Not hard to imagine given he's a GOP toady and a Trump enabler.

by Anonymousreply 378March 25, 2019 12:49 AM

We need to push for the release of the whole report.

We need to work toward electing a democrat president in 2020. Fuck anyone who tries to pit centrists against progressives. It doesn’t fucking matter in this moment in history.

The SDNY and all the other investigations need to go forward.

by Anonymousreply 379March 25, 2019 12:49 AM

From the linked NYT opinion article below.

This raises the serious question of whether Mr. Barr’s decision on Sunday was based on the bizarre legal views that he set out in an unsolicited 19-page memo last year.

That memo made the argument that the obstruction of justice statute does not apply to the president because the text of the statute doesn’t specifically mention the president. Of course, the murder statute doesn’t mention the president either, but no one thinks the president can’t commit murder. Indeed, the Office of Legal Counsel had previously concluded that such an argument to interpret another criminal statute, the bribery law, was wrong.

I have this recurring dream that Trump sits down to an interview on TV with a black man and admits that he fired Comey to make "the Rusher thing go away." I wonder if I'll stop having that dream now. My subconscious has really gotten away with some very peculiar stuff.

by Anonymousreply 381March 25, 2019 12:50 AM

Dem House needs to investigate the DOJ now.
I was going to watch Tricky Dick on CNN about Nixon, but I just can't handle watching something about another crooked Republican getting away scott free after all this.

Nixon did not get away with anything. He resigned in disgrace. We could only be so lucky if the result was the same here.

by Anonymousreply 383March 25, 2019 12:52 AM

And, one more thing...

The Democrats need to stop with the friendly request for information and documents. Subpoenas first and fast.

by Anonymousreply 384March 25, 2019 12:52 AM

ITA R84.

Why do people refuse to see the truth. Mueller let us down. Period. Barr was always a plant, but Mueller is the real disappoinment with the gaslighting.

Also, after Mueller, I don't have faith in SDNY etc. either.

I will vote in 2020 for the Democrat like I always do. However, I don't have faith in Trump losing then either (either enough stupid people believe the lies and/or Putin steals the election again -since nothing has been done to stop it since 2016).

I have passports for me and mine. Doing paperwork work now. Advanced degree and IT professional makes a good residency candidate. If Trump wins next year, we are moving to Canada because at that point, the United States of America is over.

by Anonymousreply 385March 25, 2019 12:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 386March 25, 2019 12:54 AM
Nixon did not get away with anything. He resigned in disgrace. We could only be so lucky if the result was the same here.

by Anonymousreply 392March 25, 2019 12:57 AM

The Nixon - Mitchell comparison is quite apt. Mitchell was the one who OKed Gordon Liddy's plans to break into the Watergate building. Mitchell was Nixon's AG and then chairman for the Nixon reelection committee. He went to prison for 4 years.

by Anonymousreply 393March 25, 2019 12:58 AM

I am hoping this unites the people against Trump more than ever and drives him from office in 2020, as much as I would love to see Trump disgraced and removed from office, about 40% of this country would never accept it and view it as a coup.

by Anonymousreply 394March 25, 2019 1:00 AM

R381: I had that dream too. Also, dreams about a Trump Tower meeting, Kushner back channel meeting, secret Trump/Putin meetings, a Russia get Hillary's emails announcement. Whew, glad I woke up since those were just dreams according to Mueller!

by Anonymousreply 395March 25, 2019 1:00 AM

I had a dream Trump kept saying the Russians did not interfere in the 2016 elections despite the Mueller report saying they def did

by Anonymousreply 396March 25, 2019 1:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 397March 25, 2019 1:04 AM

Yeah, we all know the media wants him reelected. He is cash money to them all!

Maybe we could sell them on a trial like OJ?

by Anonymousreply 399March 25, 2019 1:06 AM

I haven’t read this whole thread. Is it just a bunch of people saying Mueller exonerated Trump?

We haven’t seen the Mueller report. We have seen the Barr attempt at a coverup. The Mueller report is supposedly much worse.

Barr was selected because he said he didn’t think a president could possibly obstruct justice even if he commits obstruction of justice. He also recommended the Iran contra pardons.

Stop yelling about being let down by Mueller. Wait until the full report is leaked or released.

Mueller and Barr will both have to appear before Congress.

by Anonymousreply 400March 25, 2019 1:07 AM

I recommend everyone watch MSNBC right now and calm down. Ari and Maya Wiley have got this covered.

by Anonymousreply 401March 25, 2019 1:07 AM

Never trust a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 402March 25, 2019 1:08 AM

The media can make and break him R399. People were glued to the TV during the Watergate hearings.

by Anonymousreply 403March 25, 2019 1:08 AM

R398 We need the report or at least, Mueller's testimony to the House committee to judge the degree of Mueller's complicity. But he did fall down on his duty to the country by being soft on Trump.

by Anonymousreply 404March 25, 2019 1:09 AM

R402, I disagree with that.

by Anonymousreply 405March 25, 2019 1:11 AM

Everything Trump Touches Dies. Including Robert Mueller's once impeccable reputation.

by Anonymousreply 406March 25, 2019 1:12 AM

And the indictments from SDNY.

by Anonymousreply 408March 25, 2019 1:14 AM

By the book people like Mueller ultimately falls in line with the chain of command (even if corrupt), unfortunately. History will not look kindly on him and this DoJ. Too bad Avennati was such a bust. We knew a hound dog like him on Trump's ass.

by Anonymousreply 409March 25, 2019 1:15 AM

R408, the reality is Trump represents the views of a huge number of Americans who vote

by Anonymousreply 410March 25, 2019 1:16 AM

that's what a lot of posters here don't understand. The narrative is very important. Right now the narrative is Trump and his family were not charged with conspiracy or obstruction.

Until we get the report and further House investigations, we're fucked. Trump's approval number will soar right now

by Anonymousreply 411March 25, 2019 1:16 AM

by Anonymousreply 421March 25, 2019 1:24 AM

Imagine Mueller had been silent for two years with no prosecutions. Imagine we hadn't gotten info from any other sources, and today a report drops in which Mueller announces he's indicting 34 persons and three foreign entities. Some of those being indicted are Trump's former campaign manager, former NSA head and various other campaign quislings. Charges range from fraud to lying to working for foreign governments.

It's also announced that Don Jr and Kushner secretly met with Russians, in Trump Tower, after being offered dirt on Hillary Clinton. It's announced that Roger Stone is being prosecuted and was instructed by someone in the campaign to contact Wikileaks.

It's announced that Erik Prince secretly met with various foreign factions to set up a back channel to the Kremlin on behalf of Kushner.

It's announced Trump is essentially an unindicted co-conspirator in a case involving hush payments to a porn star.

We also find out that everyone in that fucking White House is basically using Yahoo Messenger to conduct affairs of state while the toad in chief uses an unsecured cell phone.

Oh- and the POTUS committed obstruction of justice. And gave our most highly classified top-secret info to Russian officials while they stood in the Oval Office.

If it had all come out at once, we might be talking about impeachment tonight.

by Anonymousreply 422March 25, 2019 1:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 423March 25, 2019 1:27 AM

R422, but her emails.

by Anonymousreply 424March 25, 2019 1:28 AM

No matter what is in the report, this is all to condition people to go along with 'it's a witch hunt'. Especially if he gets through this then people will be so over the SDNY stuff before it starts. More and more idiots will be saying to let it go, it's over, they're obsessed, etc. It's one big mind game for the trash in this administration...and the dumber than dirt followers just go right along with the script.

by Anonymousreply 425March 25, 2019 1:30 AM

R421 How stupid is Barr? So much damning evidence has already become PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE, so for him to try to "retcon" this into a "exoneration" is so ridiculous even by GOP gas-lighting standard. Other than Trump's stupid base, who's gonna give an ounce of credence to Barr's summary?

by Anonymousreply 426March 25, 2019 1:31 AM

I think there are more than a handful of people who know the actual truth. Many of these people have been hinting at the facts for a long time but seemed to be waiting for Mueller. What we need now is for some of them to come forward and say: I saw evidence that is not consistent with this report. Obama, Brennen, Yates, Comey, McCabe, Members of the gang of 8 (4 dems). The time for speaking in code and worrying about process and our democratic foundations is gone. Speak up, now.

by Anonymousreply 427March 25, 2019 1:32 AM

They're probably sewn into their Barcaloungers or glued to their phones or they're fapping to farms going under from tariffs or reading reports of children separated from their parents at the border and dying from insufficient medical attention.

Most of those 100 million "real good liberty lovin'" Americans will be "yeah I guess I could help save the country by exercising my constitutional right, but I just got four notifications on instant messaging and it might rain" or "Bernie's not on the ballot..."

by Anonymousreply 433March 25, 2019 1:37 AM

Good point, R433.

by Anonymousreply 434March 25, 2019 1:39 AM

We get our hopes up about the conclusion of the Mueller probe, sure that it will find there was collusion. Now that we know it didn't, we're told to wait for the full report, which will certainly be full of damaging information about Trump. But what if it isn't? What if our hopes are dashed again? At what point do we stop pinning all of our hopes on these investigations and focus our attention on getting rid of Trump through the ballot box? So much time and effort (especially on the cable news shows) was wasted on endlessly speculating, pontificating, anticipating and predicting what the Mueller probe would find -- time and effort that, in retrospect, would have been far better spent going after Trump and the GOP for their POLICIES that have fucked us over and crafting our message and strategy for 2020.

by Anonymousreply 435March 25, 2019 1:44 AM

Anyone who expected subtlety from cable news coverage was kidding themselves.

by Anonymousreply 436March 25, 2019 1:47 AM

Why would they?

by Anonymousreply 437March 25, 2019 1:50 AM

All I know is that my house hasn't been this clean since 2016.

by Anonymousreply 438March 25, 2019 1:50 AM

We won the 2018 elections, r435. We would have won even bigger if there hadn’t been gerrymandering and voter suppression.

We can focus on winning 2020 and still keep holding the Trump Cabal accountable for their blatantly criminal activity.

Never forget. There are multiple convictions and open investigations for those closest to Trump. We have proof. They are criminals.

by Anonymousreply 439March 25, 2019 1:51 AM

I sincerely hope everyone is watching Ari’s special on MSNBC right now. John Flannery, the Redford lookalike with the bow tie, is going through the Barr coverup letter and explaining how it’s a Republican coverup. He’s not alleging Mueller did anything wrong.

If you’re not watching MSNBC right now, well... I can’t imagine what else you’re doing that’s more important...

by Anonymousreply 440March 25, 2019 1:54 AM

Enough, R435. You’re surprised that Barr did exactly what Trump hired him to do? We haven’t seen an inch of the actual Mueller report.

by Anonymousreply 441March 25, 2019 1:56 AM

The report must be damaging to Trump otherwise Barr would have released it. Congress isn't going to let him get away with that.

by Anonymousreply 442March 25, 2019 1:58 AM

The tide is already turning on this.

As others have noted, MSNBC's very smart legal analysts, one after another, are tearing Barr a new asshole.

Calling his letter a press release for Trump, a suspicious document, a cover-up, pointing out that there is not one complete sentence quoted from Mueller's report, there's no mention of how long the report is, etc. The AG is required to explain why no charges were pursued, and there's no explanation whatsoever.

They're not going to get away with this. The full report must be released.

by Anonymousreply 443March 25, 2019 1:59 AM

Exactly R442. The only people gullible enough not to realize that should be republicans. But I see a lot of non Republicans here are preferring to wallow in despair and resentment at Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 444March 25, 2019 1:59 AM

I totally believe Flannery. Barr got the job by submitting a written outline on how he would protect the President from Obstruction of Jusice charge. This week congress needs to subpoena Barr's ass before he can start making evidence disappear

by Anonymousreply 445March 25, 2019 2:00 AM

I'm watching, R440. I've always liked Flannery and he is raising some really good lawyerly (is that a word?) insights. Mueller's report has to be released. Period.

by Anonymousreply 446March 25, 2019 2:00 AM
We get our hopes up about the conclusion of the Mueller probe, sure that it will find there was collusion. Now that we know it didn't, we're told to wait for the full report, which will certainly be full of damaging information about Trump. But what if it isn't? What if our hopes are dashed again?

It was clear when people donated millions of dollars to Jill Stein's crazy recount fund that people will go on believing literally anything, so this will be just a slight bump in the road.

by Anonymousreply 447March 25, 2019 2:04 AM

I agree that this high school book report is not going to cut it.

Release the full report. This is not some third world despot.

by Anonymousreply 448March 25, 2019 2:06 AM

SOMEBODY on Mueller's Team has a hermetically sealed jump-drive which contains the entire report, evidence and all, in their rectum.

by Anonymousreply 449March 25, 2019 2:06 AM

Mueller did what he was supposed to do but he doesn't have control of the report after he hands it over.

Barr could have stood up there and said he wrote the lyrics to "Yankee Doodle Dandy" over and over again and Mueller couldn't say anything otherwise.

If everything in that report supported Trump then it would have been released full.

I just don't understand why so many posters here bitched and moaned how corrupt this administration was for years and now that you got a "summary" of the report they're satisfied and posting, "Time to focus on other things! The democrats were wrong!"

Why shouldn't they try and spin/hide/lie about this like they have everything else?

by Anonymousreply 452March 25, 2019 2:15 AM

How long is Congress going to take to get the report? Its a damn shame that after two years we still have to wait for all the song and dance of Congress to get the real fucking report.

by Anonymousreply 453March 25, 2019 2:15 AM

I am too old to go through this shit again. I was a teenager when Nixon walked, thanks to Doofus Jerry Ford’s pardon, and THEN to add insult to injury he makes a come back as a “respected elder statesman” while all his flunkies - and truthteller John Dean - went to prison in his place. I can’t take this a second time.

Like the poster upthread who talked about moving to Canada, I’ve been working for several months on getting my dual citizenship. I meet the criteria through my Italian grandfather who was not a US citizen when my mother was born in the US (he never became a citizen in fact). It’s a long slow process and months (so far) spent getting the proper documentation. So may people are doing this that in fact I can’t get the required personal interview with the consulate until July of 2020! Since Italy is part of the EU once I get that dual status conferred I can get my EU passport. If things are no better by then, it will be time to take my retirement and find somewhere to live in the EU.

I hate to think of it as bailing out but really, I’m just exhausted fighting this fight over and over without ever “winning”. I marched against Vietnam as a high schooler, protested Nixon, voted for Dems all my life, railed against Reagan, and mourned for how terrible this country treated a good man like Jimmy Carter. I don’t have the energy anymore. I hope the young progressives can succeed where I and my ilk failed.

by Anonymousreply 454March 25, 2019 2:24 AM

R454 you're forgetting George HW Bush and McCain who were both lionized as "anti-Trumps" not too long ago. Hypocrisy and corruption is the norm, not the exception.

by Anonymousreply 455March 25, 2019 2:32 AM
Life long Democrat here. I am glad the President has been cleared of being a Russian asset. That's the part that always bothered me the most and I'm glad it seems he's not compromised.

He has been cleared of being a Russian AGENT. That's what conspiracy with a foreign government to defraud the US would make him.

Anyone can see he's a Russian, Israeli, Saudi etc. asset. I don't need a Mueller probe for that - even though indirectly Mueller helped establish that by Michael Cohen's second testimony to Congress about the Trump Moscow project and the quid pro quo.

by Anonymousreply 456March 25, 2019 2:32 AM

R453, this is not Congress's fault. This is entirely Barr's fault.

by Anonymousreply 457March 25, 2019 2:34 AM

We definitely need to see the full report, and let's hope it has some damaging information about Trump. But honestly, some of you sound like the DataLoungers in denial on Election night 2016 who were saying, "It's not over! Hillary could still win Idaho and Alaska!"

by Anonymousreply 458March 25, 2019 2:36 AM

" I hope the young progressives can succeed where I and my ilk failed"

Unfortunately, the young progressives are too busy eating theie own over fights over using the correct pronouns and other thought crimes.

by Anonymousreply 459March 25, 2019 2:37 AM

R450, if you didn't believe there were trolls here before, it's quite obvious today.

by Anonymousreply 460March 25, 2019 2:37 AM
Life long Democrat here. I am glad the President has been cleared of being a Russian asset. That's the part that always bothered me the most and I'm glad it seems he's not compromised.

Lets be clear here, it is impossible to prove a negative, so it isn't possible to prove that Trump is not a Russian agent. What was discovered was they found no evidence that he was, he might not be a Russian agent and he might, it just wasn't possible to prove anything.

by Anonymousreply 461March 25, 2019 2:38 AM

R461, as has been pointed out, we do not know what standard of proof Mueller (or Barr) was applying.

by Anonymousreply 462March 25, 2019 2:40 AM

So, Trump fucking-up everything - foreign policy, alliances, sanctions and secret meetings - in Putin/Russia's favor is just a coincidence. Sure.

by Anonymousreply 463March 25, 2019 2:43 AM

Mueller got Barr'ed! There's your headline.

by Anonymousreply 464March 25, 2019 2:46 AM

Dem's gotta do it by themselves. Can't trust anyone who's a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 465March 25, 2019 2:51 AM

We needed more focus on Trumps malignant policies, instead many doubled down on this report. While the world burned all I could hear was RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA, for a long while Rachel couldn't do a show without it, even Bill Maher became obsessed with it. When two brilliant Liberals like Rachel and Bill fall for it, then it's hopeless. I know MANY on the left did focus on his policies, but too much of that got washed away in the Russia minutia. I don't know what Democrats have to do, because on the issues the people side with us far more than the right, issues after issue after issue, yet they have the White House, Senate and the judiciary and Dolt 45 just got a real bee to put in his bonnet.

by Anonymousreply 466March 25, 2019 3:00 AM

Everyone assumes that Mueller not coming through is all for the benefit of Trump, bu people forget that there was a huge piece of international money-laundering going on too. I want to see the evidence Mueller subpoenaed from Deutch Bank where Trump supposedly got all his loans and through which Russian Oligarcha were laundering money. Let's not forget- we had the SON OF A F*CKING SUPREME COURT JUSTICE (Kennedy) approving some of those loans to Trump- and supposedly the reason Justice Kennedy stepped down! The whole Scenario is absolutely mind-boggling in the History of American Democracy. What if Trump isn't the only "Financier" who took advantage of D.B.'s services? Perhaps there were/are other Billionaires out there to protect and we mortal peons just don't matter- and neither does justice anymore.

by Anonymousreply 467March 25, 2019 3:01 AM

Report, shemeport. I saw and heard the obstruction with my own eyes and ears, on NBC with Lester Holt.

I'm sure there's enough daily corruption in this administration to fill every newsday till the elections. Especially how the corruption and serving the special interests hurts the average American.

by Anonymousreply 468March 25, 2019 3:03 AM

R466, are you a troll or just stupid?

You’re willing to ignore and wave away everything we know about Trump & Russia just because a Trump appointee —who auditioned by telling Trump he would protect him—wrote a dishonest, cherry picked, bullshit 4-page short essay partially exonerating him?

Seriously?

This isn’t over. Democrats in Congress are going to go over it with a fine tooth comb, and then SDNY and other offices are going to buttfuck Trump and his co-conspirators like they’ve never been fucked before.

by Anonymousreply 469March 25, 2019 3:05 AM

Barr's plan was to get his summary out early, lay down the narrative. This, from the supposed top cop? What a fucking JOKE.

by Anonymousreply 470March 25, 2019 3:10 AM

Neal Katyal (who wrote the regulations governing special counsel proceedings) has an opinion tonight in the NYT. Not sure if it’s been shared upthread already but for anyone hasn’t read it and is stuck behind a paywall:

On Sunday afternoon, soon after Attorney General Bill Barr released a letter outlining the Mueller investigation report, President Trump tweeted “Total EXONERATION!” But there are any number of reasons the president should not be taking a victory lap.

First, obviously, he still faces the New York investigations into campaign finance violations by the Trump team and the various investigations into the Trump organization. And Mr. Barr, in his letter, acknowledges that the Mueller report “does not exonerate” Mr. Trump on the issue of obstruction, even if it does not recommend an indictment.

But the critical part of the letter is that it now creates a whole new mess. After laying out the scope of the investigation and noting that Mr. Mueller’s report does not offer any legal recommendations, Mr. Barr declares that it therefore “leaves it to the attorney general to decide whether the conduct described in the report constitutes a crime.” He then concludes the president did not obstruct justice when he fired the F.B.I. director, James Comey.

Such a conclusion would be momentous in any event. But to do so within 48 hours of receiving the report (which pointedly did not reach that conclusion) should be deeply concerning to every American.

The special counsel regulations were written to provide the public with confidence that justice was done. It is impossible for the public to reach that determination without knowing two things. First, what did the Mueller report conclude, and what was the evidence on obstruction of justice? And second, how could Mr. Barr have reached his conclusion so quickly?

Mr. Barr’s letter raises far more questions than it answers, both on the facts and the law.

His letter says Mr. Mueller set “out evidence on both sides of the question and leaves unresolved what the special counsel views as ‘difficult issues’ of law and fact concerning whether the president’s actions and intent could be viewed as obstruction.” Yet we don’t know what those “difficult issues” were, because Mr. Barr doesn’t say, or why Mr. Mueller, after deciding not to charge on conspiracy, let Mr. Barr make the decision on obstruction.

On the facts, Mr. Barr says that the government would need to prove that Mr. Trump acted with “corrupt intent” and there were no such actions. But how would Mr. Barr know? Did he even attempt to interview Mr. Trump about his intentions?

What kind of prosecutor would make a decision about someone’s intent without even trying to talk to him? Particularly in light of Mr. Mueller’s pointed statement that his report does not “exonerate” Mr. Trump. Mr. Mueller didn’t have to say anything like that. He did so for a reason. And that reason may well be that there is troubling evidence in the substantial record that he compiled.

Mueller focused on the Hacking - which had all the parts just not (snark I doubt it) direct link to Donald himself. Despite that we ALL HEARD IT.

Mueller should have been focused on Donalds Real Estate deal with Putin. POS sold out an American election for his Trump Moscow.

by Anonymousreply 472March 25, 2019 3:11 AM

Actually we don't know if Mueller discovered whether or not Trump is beholden to Putin in some way. All Barr has said is that Mueller didn't find evidence the campaign knowingly colluded with Russia while Russia was attacking our election. And that's according to half a sentence Barr quoted from Mueller's report. We don't know if Mueller looked into Trump's financial dealings with Russia. We don't know what in the hell that dossier was really all about. We don't know if Russians laudered money through Trump's businesses. We don't know if Mueller asked someone in the CIA if they knew what in the fuck was going on in Helsinki. We don't know.

We do know former intelligence officers have been sounding alarms from the beginning, and they aren't generally men who go around doing shit like that for no reason.

by Anonymousreply 473March 25, 2019 3:13 AM

Trumps approval ratings will be a record high this week.

by Anonymousreply 474March 25, 2019 3:13 AM

What Barr said was that there was no collusion with the Russian GOVERNMENT very specifically IRA and Russian Hackers. No one ever thought there was a written contract with IRA which is what Barr's summary seems to clear Trump. The wording is very specific. There were "leaks" earlier in the week that the report was "damning." We haven't seen the report. Only a summary by a Trump hack. As to Obstruction, Mueller didn't find one way or another so Barr and Rosenstein took it upon themselves to clear Trump. That's not how this was supposed to work. Mueller was supposed to determine this. It's one of the main reasons that an INDEPENENT COUNSEL was appointed. So we have two things 1) There isn't enough evidence that Trump colluded with IRA or hackers (again very narrow definition of Russian Government and 2) Barr has cleared him of obstruction (much like he said he would do in his letter to Trump before being hired). There are many questions left unanswered. This story isn't over yet by a long shot.

by Anonymousreply 475March 25, 2019 3:13 AM

Katyal continued:

Furthermore, we do not know why Mr. Mueller did not try to force an interview with the president. The reason matters greatly. Mr. Mueller could have concluded that interviews of sitting presidents for obstruction matters are better done within the context of a congressional impeachment investigation (perhaps because a sitting president cannot be indicted, the Barr letter says this legal argument didn’t influence Mr. Barr’s conclusion but again is pointedly silent as to Mr. Mueller). Or Mr. Barr could have concluded that the attorney general, not a special counsel, should carry out such an interview. The fact that Mr. Barr rushed to judgment, within 48 hours, after a 22-month investigation, is deeply worrisome.

The opening lines of the obstruction section of Mr. Barr’s letter are even more concerning. It says that the special counsel investigated “a number of actions by the president — most of which have been the subject of public reporting.” That suggests that at least some of the foundation for an obstruction of justice charge has not yet been made public. There will be no way to have confidence in such a quick judgment about previously unreported actions without knowing what those actions were.

On the law, Mr. Barr’s letter also obliquely suggests that he consulted with the Office of Legal Counsel, the elite Justice Department office that interprets federal statutes.

As such, Mr. Barr’s reference to the office raises the question of whether he tried to enshrine his idiosyncratic view into the law and bar Mr. Trump’s prosecution. His unsolicited memo should be understood for what it is, a badly argued attempt to put presidents above the law. If he used that legal fiction to let President Trump off the hook, Congress would have to begin an impeachment investigation to vindicate the rule of law.

Sometimes momentous government action leaves everyone uncertain about the next move. This is not one of those times. Congress now has a clear path of action. It must first demand the release of the Mueller report, so that Americans can see the evidence for themselves. Then, it must call Mr. Barr and Mr. Mueller to testify. Mr. Barr in particular must explain his rationale for reaching the obstruction judgment he made.

No one wants a president to be guilty of obstruction of justice. The only thing worse than that is a guilty president who goes without punishment. The Barr letter raises the specter that we are living in such times.

/END Katyal

r466, Jimmy Dore! What brings you here? Welcome to Datalounge!

by Anonymousreply 477March 25, 2019 3:13 AM

Republicans should be wary, this could energize the Dems going into 2020. Barr doesn't pass the smell test, and the report is still not available. The more things remain in the dark, the worse it looks.

by Anonymousreply 478March 25, 2019 3:13 AM

Barr is using standard GOP/Trump tactic. Lie first and have the media propagate their lies as "news", and then dare the other side to prove they lied.

by Anonymousreply 479March 25, 2019 3:14 AM

Mueller She Wrote podcast is out.

by Anonymousreply 480March 25, 2019 3:15 AM

R472, seth Abramson made that same case today. It appears mueller focused ONLY on the hacking and decided Trump didn’t have a direct hand in that. Well, DUH, that’s not a surprise.

What is *suspicious* to say that absolute least is that Trump knew about it after the fact and said nothing and indeed to continued to COVER for Russia. WTF

That is impeachable. This is ALL impeachable.

by Anonymousreply 481March 25, 2019 3:15 AM

I'm killing myself laughing at you retards. A month ago you're all preening and salivating at the upcoming report, which HAS to implicate Trump, and when are they all to get perp-walked out of the White House??? When clearly there was nothing for anyone to discover, because it ALL a LIE. Barr does;t matter, he's summarizing Mueller's report. Do you really think Mueller would sit by and let Barr mis-state the report's findings? You're all duped. Follow the trail of this joke investigation, you morons. It's been exposed. Get used to it.

by Anonymousreply 482March 25, 2019 3:15 AM

YEP R479.

by Anonymousreply 483March 25, 2019 3:16 AM

It seems to me that the Rethugs plan was to falsely create a narrative that there was nothing to see, which morons would believe in, despite all facts leading contrary....

So when that the report is forced out or further investigations continue, Deplorables would just scream, "witch hunt," harder. And therefore any "truth" revealed would be, "fake news."

by Anonymousreply 484March 25, 2019 3:17 AM

r481, talk to the hand.

by Anonymousreply 485March 25, 2019 3:17 AM

Or any citizen could sue to try to get a redacted copy.

by Anonymousreply 486March 25, 2019 3:17 AM

Well now, all he’s got to do is declare himself dictator for life and he’ll be set. We’re truly fucked with this asshole.

I stated numerous times on these threads that Mueller’s report wouldn’t lead to anything.

by Anonymousreply 487March 25, 2019 3:19 AM

Eh, so what. He'll do dozens of messes in the weeks ahead.

by Anonymousreply 489March 25, 2019 3:19 AM

And do you think you’ve been proven correct R487?

You’ve seen the Mueller report? Because no one else here has.

by Anonymousreply 490March 25, 2019 3:20 AM

Who cares about his approval rating. It won't last because of the 3412837461872364781678146327841 other things he has done that are fucked up as "president".

by Anonymousreply 491March 25, 2019 3:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 492March 25, 2019 3:25 AM

We’re not at the point where people take to the streets and the way this country is dying, in slow motion and desensitised, no one will march. This may signify the end of the great experiment.

by Anonymousreply 493March 25, 2019 3:25 AM

R473, i read your post as part of Neal Katyal’s opinion piece that I had started pasting above your post, and 2/3 of the way through your post I was shocked —SHOCKED!—to see that the NYT was letting Katyal use such foul language.

by Anonymousreply 494March 25, 2019 3:25 AM

I'm so sorry about that! I was typing and hadn't seen you start posting those or I wouldn't have interrupted.

by Anonymousreply 495March 25, 2019 3:29 AM

Pee-Pul! Calm needs to prevail here, to a degree. I know many will scoff, but Mercury is still retrograde, until this Thurs morning eastern time. It went retro at a critical degree (29 Pisces), which is the near same degree as the big full moon last week at 0 Aries on the same day as the spring equinox. Mercury rules communications and reports.

I will tell you there will be -no- clarity re this report or anything else until Merc does direct later this week. New clarifying details and news should start to really emerge then, slow at first, then more quickly. There should be some answers then. The 'shadow period' of this event ends April 16th, so expect a lot more to come flowing after that.

You can call it what you want and believe what you want, but trust that until after Thurs there won't be much clarity. Hold onto your pants while the misinformation and spin/lies continue until then - trust NOTHING coming out of the WH, AG office OR the MSM right now.

by Anonymousreply 496March 25, 2019 3:31 AM

R491 Yes, he's a total fuck-up, because we've gone to war with both Iran and North Korea, he's invaded numerous countries like Venezuela as we were told he would; the economy is in the shitter; blacks and Latinos are doing worse than ever; he's suspended freedom of the press and defied court rulings that he didn't like. Everything we were worried about has come true!!!

by Anonymousreply 497March 25, 2019 3:31 AM

If something big was going to drop it would have been leaked by now, r490.

by Anonymousreply 498March 25, 2019 3:33 AM

And you’re basing your timeline on what, exactly R498?

by Anonymousreply 499March 25, 2019 3:34 AM

No problem, R495! I chuckled.

I do hope everyone reads Neal’s piece. He’s kind of an expert on how the special counsel proceedings are supposed to go... considering he wrote the regulations.

This IS a cover-up, and the truth will come out despite the best efforts of the GOP and people like R498.

by Anonymousreply 500March 25, 2019 3:36 AM

Reality R499. Time to get some.

Mueller planned (past tense?) to make his case before Congress. If that’s the case, he should be ready to appear there ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 502March 25, 2019 3:38 AM

Between the Steel Dossier and all the reporting that has been done, the truth is out there. We were hoping the Mueller report would connect the dots and it still may but we also know that it was limited to effects on election which Mueller defined as IRA and hacking in general. If that is the case, there is still a lot of investigation going on at CIA (remember Brennen was former CIA director and he has been harsh Trump critic). He has seen some hard core evidence. Let's see if any of those types back off. Many have based their reputation on this and I don't think it will go away easily.

by Anonymousreply 503March 25, 2019 3:41 AM

Who is to say that Mueller's report didn't basically say, "we can't say conspiracy yet.... because you're shutting us down before we've finished?"

by Anonymousreply 504March 25, 2019 3:46 AM

R503 I guess you mean the "Steele" Dossier, which has now been cast into oblivion by the media that made it seem like the Pentagon Papers in 2017. They don't want to touch it, because its a pile of crap that a hack cut and pasted from online forums and vague rumors his cronies passed on to him. Nothing of substance ever came from it. And I think you know that. And so does Buzzfeed, Brian Stelter, Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, and all the other faux journalists that stirred that shit up.

by Anonymousreply 505March 25, 2019 3:47 AM

R504 "Teacher! Teacher! Oh my God, I know I've had 3 fucking years to finish this project, but I'm not done! Don't make me stop now!"

by Anonymousreply 506March 25, 2019 3:49 AM

The summary was written by Rudy?

by Anonymousreply 507March 25, 2019 3:49 AM

I am not totally surprised by this outcome.

Putin made sure Mueller couldn't find anything reg collusion or at least made sure Trump wasn't personally involved in all this. You don't trust a blabbermouth like Trump with this knowledge anyway. Same reason why Mitchell made sure it looked like Nixon had no knowledge of the Watergate break in, although Nixon was not stupid. (Until they found the tapes of course)

Mueller was never going to indict Trump or any of his spawn because Trump/Pence would immediately pardon. There is no precedent for indicting a sitting president anyway.

That's why he shifted so many cases to the state district courts.

Obstruction of justice - as far as we know Mueller didn't exonerate Trump on that one.

by Anonymousreply 508March 25, 2019 3:50 AM

Ari Melber throws in the towel

MSNBC’s Ari Melber said on Sunday night that it is time for House Democrats to stand up and accept that Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not find a chargeable election conspiracy.

The comment came during an in-depth discussion of Attorney General William Barr‘s summary of Robert Mueller report and the issues — and politics — swirling around it.

“Some people want those charges because they just think they are true, they expected that there would be a chargeable conspiracy after hearing so much about Trump publicly asking for Russia’s help and his aides going to meetings,” Melber began. “Other people, let’s be real may just hope for charges that challenge the legitimacy of this very controversial president. Those motivations are not what guides our justice system.”

Yeah actually R511 -- what about Benghazi ? Four guys dead, including a member of our community, a gay ambassador. But nobody's interested in what fucked that situation up, are they? Least of all you. You're VERY upset with the Mueller report, but the Benghazi report was fine right? Not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 514March 25, 2019 4:02 AM

How many times has R435 been called a Russian Troll?

The cognitive dissonance between what the media pushed and reality is scary.

Loathe Trump, but this shit has pushed more independent voters towards reelection in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 515March 25, 2019 4:03 AM

Again, R515, stop pretending like this 4-page bullshit memo —written by a Trump appointee who was hired specifically to exonerate Trump—is the final chapter. It’s a road bump. A cover up. Anyone with half a brain can see it. Go fuck yourself.

by Anonymousreply 516March 25, 2019 4:07 AM

R515 Stip worrying about who's a troll. If the Democrats had better policies and arguments, trolls wouldn't get anywhere. Get better ideas.

by Anonymousreply 517March 25, 2019 4:07 AM

The Steele dossier was funded by Hillary Clinton's camp.

Trump is a notorious germaphobe so the claim that he enjoyed hookers pissing on him was always laughably bogus.

Once you realize the Clinton camp has been after Trump with all these smears, it all starts to settle in that what this is all about is revenge politics and an icon who is incensed she got outfoxed by a moron like Trump

by Anonymousreply 521March 25, 2019 4:10 AM

R513, Ari Melber hasn't got a real basis to make that claim. No one has seen the Mueller Report besides William Barr, and he was handpicked by Trump to stop or otherwise obstruct the investigation, based upon Barr's stated opposition to it. Taking Barr's word for it would be like accepting the word of Manafort's lawyer, Kevin Downing, who emerged from the courtroom to proclaim that Judge Jackson had conceded there was no collusion, when in fact she'd said nothing of the sort.

Let's ask for Trump's taxes again!

by Anonymousreply 525March 25, 2019 4:14 AM

Are you skeptics trying to tell us that democrats should just call off their myriad probes into Trump because of Barr’s cover-up letter?

The fact that Trump has committed literally dozens of impeachable offenses means nothing anymore?

I notice some in the media making this case today. It’s really insulting. Congress has barely begun to perform its oversight duties that the previous Congress refused to do.

Hey guys... Trump won over 2 years ago. He’s still the president and this sham investigation funded by Clinton Inc, didn’t get him impeached. 25 million dollars of tax payer money wasted. Think of how many poor people that could have been fed and helped with that kind of money?

Oh well. Why not start working on 2024?...cause 2020 is out of the question for Democrats now. Sad, the party use to be decent, but now it’s full of delusional hysteria.

by Anonymousreply 532March 25, 2019 4:19 AM

R525, the DNC emails is a different situation from the Hillary private email server. The latter was a bullshit investigation the Republicans conjured up to discredit her. Colin Powell used a private server as well.

The DNC emails that Assange/Wikileaks got is what ruined her particularly with Bernie Bros after her own collusion with the DNC against Bernie and for Trump was discovererd. It led to the dismissal of two different chairwomen of the DNC in a matter of months and a contentious convention . The party has not healed from this incident. Bernie Bros again will be against the party favorite whether that's Biden, Kamala, or anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 533March 25, 2019 4:20 AM

And now it’s no longer a witch hunt, and they trust Mueller. Whatever. The less attention paid to them the better.

From Christopher Wylie on Twitter: Whatever this report says, here’s what I know: when I was at Cambridge Analytica, the company hired known Russian agents, had data researchers in St Petersburg, tested US voter opinion on Putin’s leadership, and hired hackers from Russia - all while Bannon was in charge.
In the fall of 2015, Bannon was busy setting up a new office for Cambridge Analytica in Alexandria, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., and pitching the firm’s services to Republican candidates, including Donald Trump. The firm initially worked for Ted Cruz’s Presidential campaign. But, when Trump won the Republican nomination, the Mercer family, which had financially supported Trump’s Presidential bid, insisted that Trump put Bannon in charge of the campaign and bring in Cambridge Analytica, in which the family was heavily invested, as well.
Executives at Cambridge Analytica claimed that they had access to unprecedented quantities of advanced “psychographic” data that enabled the Trump campaign to micro-target its pitch to voters. But, this past May, the company filed for bankruptcy in the wake of allegations—denied by Cambridge Analytica executives—that it had improperly obtained millions of people’s personal data from Facebook, without the users’ permission, in violation of the company’s regulations.

I don't need any Mueller Report to tell me what I all already know. Trump is a crook, a liar, a cheat, a conman, and all the other negative adjectives we have used to describe him since his smug, arrogant, smarmy, fat, orange heinous self started spewing about birther-ism. Even before that, if you were paying attention to his bankruptcies and complete lack of integrity in all manners human. He is a gross monster and has no business sullying our White House. His daily lying and ginning up the bigotry, ignorance, and hatred of his followers is reason enough to impeach. The entire Republican party is scum in my book. Their indifference to science, the rule of law, and anything else that stands in the way of their lust for wealth, control, and power has corrupted them beyond redemption. They call themselves Christians yet are doing Satan's work.

So the Mueller Report so far has not been the thing to drive him from office but remove him from office we will. If not through the investigations in various courts, through the ballot box.

The thought of another two years of this crap is deeply discouraging, but we must stand strong or it will be the end of our democracy and our transition to a third world country will be complete.

by Anonymousreply 549March 25, 2019 4:30 AM

I want someone to remember this post when Rachel Maddow makes an implication that Barr or Mueller are perhaps compromised by the Kremlin.

I'm giving it a month.

by Anonymousreply 550March 25, 2019 4:30 AM

Don't know why Zuckerberg isn't in jail. He turned a shitty little website into a trillion dollar business by conspiring with the Russiapublicans (and I'm sure other entities) to spy, steal and manipulate.

Something will leak this week.

and we have Felix Sater testifying.

maybe the SDNY will indict someone soon

by Anonymousreply 552March 25, 2019 4:33 AM

Let’s not forget Maria Butina and all of the Republican Congressmen who travelled to Russia because Russians love the NRA.

by Anonymousreply 553March 25, 2019 4:34 AM

Hope springs eternal

by Anonymousreply 554March 25, 2019 4:34 AM

I like how R548's post, in two paragraphs, proves collusion with the Trump campaign but according to Barr, nothing to see here. Oh Lester Holt, I think you have to quit now because Trump confessing his obstruction of justice to your shocked face was only imaginary according to Barr.

by Anonymousreply 555March 25, 2019 4:34 AM

Yeah. What about the Butina

by Anonymousreply 556March 25, 2019 4:35 AM

OK people -- Barr is only summarizing Mueller's report. You're under a delusion if you think Mueler would allow him to misstate the findings. In what alternate universe would that be possible? Case fucking closed.

by Anonymousreply 557March 25, 2019 4:37 AM

So again, shouldn't be any problem to release the full report, right?

CASE CLOSED!!!

by Anonymousreply 558March 25, 2019 4:39 AM

R557, why wouldn't it be possible? Be succinct.

by Anonymousreply 559March 25, 2019 4:40 AM

This only makes me madder. There will be a lot of mad people going to the polls in 2020. Trump and the GOP -- OUT.

Make it a Huge Blue tsunami. This is the only way to get justice.

by Anonymousreply 560March 25, 2019 4:40 AM

Sounds one to me -- you'll just embarrassed again, like at gym in high school

by Anonymousreply 561March 25, 2019 4:41 AM

R560 OMG Let's DO that. Nobody on the other side will be pissed off at this 3-year circus that wasted the country's time!

by Anonymousreply 562March 25, 2019 4:43 AM

Not as embarrassing at that attempt at a sentence at R561.

by Anonymousreply 563March 25, 2019 4:43 AM

Flynn - CONVICTED Gates - CONVICTED Manafort - CONVICTED Cohen - CONVICTED

Such a waste of time, prosecuting all of those CRIMINALS and recovering millions of dollars owed to the American people.

by Anonymousreply 564March 25, 2019 4:46 AM

Its over. He won. This thread needs to face reality.

by Anonymousreply 565March 25, 2019 4:46 AM

Are you R560 "Blue Tsunami"i R563 ? If so, I'm not too worried. If not, you haven't ever dealt with autocorrect. But perhaps you could respond to my obvious point instead of being my high school English teacher.

by Anonymousreply 566March 25, 2019 4:48 AM

The NYC courts will eventually get Trump but I'm not attaching myself to that.

The only way to bring down Trump is to vote him and all the Senate GOP out. The youth of this country needs to get off their ass and vote because the future affects them the most. We need a plan that we won't get fucked up again.

by Anonymousreply 567March 25, 2019 4:49 AM

Someone's hurt.

by Anonymousreply 568March 25, 2019 4:50 AM

R564 While you're high-fiving yourself -- what were they convicted of ? Anything to do with Trump or the campaign? No, they weren't. They were fraud and tax and foreign agent violations that preceded the Trump campaign, had nothing to do with Russia, and were prosecuted expressly to pressure them to divulge criminal information about Trump and his family -- which failed MISERABLY.

by Anonymousreply 569March 25, 2019 4:53 AM

Oh you pathetic slug, R569, you haven’t kept up with ALL of the open investigations which are still ongoing. If you think Cohen hasn’t turned over evidence of Trump corruption to prosecutors, you’re dreaming.

They are CRIMINALS who DEFRAUD our government, who STEAL money, who THREATEN people on behalf of Donald Trump.

The undeniable FACT is that Trump surrounds himself with CRIMINALS and there’s a clear reason for it. He likes it that way.

by Anonymousreply 570March 25, 2019 4:58 AM

No reason you should give trolls attention if they won't add anything beyond blatant contradiction and insults.
.The only way to bring down Trump is to vote him and all the Senate GOP out. The youth of this country needs to get off their ass and vote because the future affects them the most. We need a plan that we won't get fucked up again.

The other courts will get him. I'd hope and expectation the midterms would have many more people participating than 2016's election did, but it is too easy to overestimate Americans...

How would conversations go with the slim majority of Americans who didn't vote in the midterms? 48% of the electorate got off their duffs in 2018, a little more 60% voted in 2016.

"Did you know your POTUS is a deluded, narcissistic, illiterate, belligerent, sociopathic, lying glutton of a grifter?" "Yeah." "Did you vote in the midterm?" "No." "Why?" "He wasn't running?"

How do you convince people like that to vote, when they have the mentality: "Oh the fire ate away my bedroom and my kitchen, but until I burn my hand reaching for the Chee-tos while I watch TV it's not that big a deal."

by Anonymousreply 571March 25, 2019 5:02 AM

R570 Oh dear ! I must follow more closely ! I had no idea the incontrovertible Michael Cohen had presented such damning evidence! Indeed his word is his bond. I shall have to re-think my whole disbelief about this affair after hearing that Michael Cohen finds Trump offensive.

by Anonymousreply 572March 25, 2019 5:06 AM

Trump is the antiChrist.

by Anonymousreply 573March 25, 2019 5:07 AM

R571 I'm quite sure your argument is hitting the mark with many on this thread, but you sound like a retard to me.

by Anonymousreply 574March 25, 2019 5:08 AM
25 million dollars of tax payer money wasted.

Let's count the guilty pleas, convictions and forfeitures that the probe got and then crow about money wasting, shall we.

Trump hired the largest number of convicted, guilty-pleaded and investigated crooks maybe in the entire history of the nation, and he's still going at it.

Meanwhile, Manafort is up to his old tricks in trying to get back a $1mm
Prosecutors suspect Paul Manafort might be trying to secretly claw back about a million dollars he agreed to hand over to the government for his financial crimes — and he could be using the same type of shell company at the core of his legal problems to fake a loan.

by Anonymousreply 581March 25, 2019 5:19 AM

R573 not [bold]the[/bold] Antichrist, but [bold]an[/bold] Antichrist.

This is from [italic]A Course in Miracles[/italic]

1. What is an idol? 2 Do you think you know? 3 For idols are unrecognized as such, and never seen for what they really are. 4 That is the only power that they have. 5 Their purpose is obscure, and they are feared and worshipped, both, because you do not know what they are for, and why they have been made. 6 An idol is an image of your brother that you would value more than what he is. 7 Idols are made that he may be replaced, no matter what their form. 8 And it is this that never is perceived and recognized. 9 Be it a body or a thing, a place, a situation or a circumstance, an object owned or wanted, or a right demanded or achieved, it is the same.

T-29.VIII. 2. Let not their form deceive you. 2 Idols are but substitutes for your reality. 3 In some way, you believe they will complete your little self, for safety in a world perceived as dangerous, with forces massed against your confidence and peace of mind. 4 They have the power to supply your lacks, and add the value that you do not have. 5 No one believes in idols who has not enslaved himself to littleness and loss. 6 And thus must seek beyond his little self for strength to raise his head, and stand apart from all the misery the world reflects. 7 This is the penalty for looking not within for certainty and quiet calm that liberates you from the world, and lets you stand apart, in quiet and in peace.

Too many people accept idols, substitutes for their reality, because they don't know any better, don't want to know any better. Many of us in our preteens had entertainment idols but we grew out of them. Nobody who has a memory going back thirty years, who read Philip Roth's [italic] The Plot Against America[/italic], who doesn't rely on corporate American news media for news, who doesn't watch reality TV, who doesn't expect news from a channel not licensed by the FCC to be a news channel, who doesn't cling to illusions, would fall for this idol.

by Anonymousreply 582March 25, 2019 5:21 AM

R82 Now I've heard everything -- A Course In Miracles! Jesus Christ. When I want to retreat to an ashram and listen to some odiferous charlatan tell me how to vote, I'll let you know.

by Anonymousreply 583March 25, 2019 5:27 AM

"And in true Trump fashion, he had a hired hack do it for him."

And that's why he had his minions attend the Trump Tower meeting, so he wouldn't be tainted by it (call my blocked phone number when you're done, m'kay?).

Sociopath has spent his whole life trying to survive when everyone around him was repulsed and repelled by him.

by Anonymousreply 584March 25, 2019 5:28 AM

And yet, R584, he survives.

by Anonymousreply 585March 25, 2019 5:35 AM
not [bold]the[/bold] Antichrist, but [bold]an[/bold] Antichrist.

Not particularly helpful, R582. 'Antichrist' was simply a name cooked up by 2nd century Johannine sectarians, first to lob at Marcionites and other gnostics, and then at others within the sect. In time it lost its specific context and became an all-around epithet, used of any opponent.

Since there was no such thing as 'Christ' (Jesus being ahistorical), there's no such thing as 'antichrist.'
