Are you a fan?
Yes! The perfect digestif after a meal. Make your own at home.. it's easy.

I've only had limoncello cake and limoncello yogurt. I guess it's time for me to try the real thing.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 24, 2019 6:55 PM |
Homemade yes.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 24, 2019 6:55 PM |
Yes. Cold!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 24, 2019 7:02 PM |
I use everclear to make it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 24, 2019 7:08 PM |
Yes, but only while on a slate patio overlooking the Amalfi Coast.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 24, 2019 7:08 PM |
It’s also quite nice by the pool at a villa in Tuscany, Babe.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 24, 2019 7:11 PM |
I dare to drink it in Alassio with the hoi polloi.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 24, 2019 7:13 PM |
I have friends who "delight" all of us each year with a homemade bottle.
It is dreadful stuff. They are too cheap to use a nice vodka. And they use artificial sweetener. UGH.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 24, 2019 7:15 PM |
In the Vatican, the cardinals do body shots of it off of the bodies of young male hustlers. No joke.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 24, 2019 7:16 PM |
That sounds about right.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 24, 2019 7:17 PM |
And by "young" R11 means 11.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 24, 2019 7:19 PM |
I add it to Tazo lemongrass green iced tea. Delicious. It’s way too sweet to drink by itself. I might try adding it to home-made lemonade when it gets warmer. Or a fruit punch. If I want an apertif I drink Lillet with a piece of orange peel.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 24, 2019 7:21 PM |
Grown up snow cones
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 24, 2019 7:30 PM |
R10, a high quality vodka is a must, or you end up with cough syrup.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 24, 2019 7:31 PM |
Why waste a good vodka?
It's not as if you could tell what type of vodka is used after adding all those lemons and sugar.
It's like those idiots who order Grey Goose and a soft drink.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 24, 2019 7:33 PM |
Well vodka is ALWAYS well vodka. At least a decent and clean vodka, if not a luxury one, in a mixed drink.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 24, 2019 7:36 PM |
What are some affordable, high quality vodkas?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 24, 2019 7:38 PM |
Smirnoff vodka, 100 proof is perfect for this.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 24, 2019 7:42 PM |
Use Costco's Kirkland vodka if you don't wanna spend a bunch. (And no, I'm not the Costco queen).
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 24, 2019 7:45 PM |
It always stikes me as slightly trashy. For pedestrian tastes.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 24, 2019 7:54 PM |
I had it on the Amalfi Coast where it originated, it was nasty, couldn't take more than one sip
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 24, 2019 8:01 PM |
Such strong aversions to limoncello. LOL. Only on DL...
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 24, 2019 8:12 PM |
It's the reverse, R24. There is a Lemocello Stan on DL. He appears about 1x a year. I think he's The Continental.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 24, 2019 8:15 PM |
Yes, it's absolutely fucking delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 24, 2019 8:18 PM |
I am trashy and pedestrian R22.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 24, 2019 8:19 PM |
Giada has a version that takes only 4 days, but I'm sure that might upset some purists..
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 24, 2019 8:19 PM |
I love it. In fact, I'm going to have some right now!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 24, 2019 8:51 PM |
And it's a refreshing douche in July!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 24, 2019 8:52 PM |
It's nice as a once in awhile thing.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 24, 2019 11:29 PM |
It can be nice if it's good quality but a lot of stuff out there tastes like melted lemon Lifesavers.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 24, 2019 11:57 PM |
Agreed with R32.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 25, 2019 12:34 AM |
unless you are using those big, sweet Amalfi lemons dont bother drinking/making limoncello.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 25, 2019 12:55 AM |
The real deal I received as a gift once, I substituted as I would Grand Marnier/ Orange juice for Crepes Suzette: Limoncello/LJ and still flaming (like a Dancing Queen) with brandy to finish - I was pleased with the lemon syrupy variation. If I did this again, I'd serve with some fresh blueberries too I think.
Otherwise, I've just mixed it high-ball with soda water and lots of ice. Refreshing but I add Angostura for a kick too to balance it out.

That mess knocked me on my ass -- yeah, I was in Capri, it was hot outside that night, and they were just so good. I had to apologize to the hotel staff the next day.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 25, 2019 3:06 AM |
I think I had this at the Italy pavilion at Epcot. It was okay.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 25, 2019 3:08 AM |
It was the Italian pavillion at the 1964 World's Fair, admit it R39
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 25, 2019 7:41 AM |
Make it yourself at home and cut the sugar in half. Not for the purists, but it's still plenty sweet enough.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 25, 2019 7:54 AM |
Can anyone describe the taste good Limoncello is supposed to have? I have never tried it and I am curious to make it at home.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 25, 2019 11:27 AM |
Sweet, sunny, lemony, and very easy to forget about the hard liquor base. See R38. I've done versions with orange and grapefruit and they all turned out delicious. I usually cut way back on the sugar and don't miss it. For me, a little sweet goes a very long way.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 25, 2019 7:02 PM |
R42 hmmmmm let's see how to describe this complex flavor. LEMONS
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 25, 2019 7:04 PM |
Lemons and lots of sugar.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 25, 2019 9:20 PM |
r42: like a very sweet lemon ice cream with a boozy aftertaste. the texture is like a sticky syrup.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 25, 2019 10:26 PM |
R46 More like lemon flavored motor oil.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 25, 2019 11:55 PM |
Yikes, recipe calls for 4 CUPS of sugar. I'll pass. I like my teeth enamel too much to lose it to Limoncello.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 26, 2019 1:14 AM |
Well, you're not supposed to drink a LOT of it, r48.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 26, 2019 3:59 AM |
Isn't it just adult lemonade?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 26, 2019 4:26 AM |
We enjoyed a really delightful batch a couple of years ago, in of all places, Alaska, aboard Diamond Princess®--staff (Italian) said that they created it from an old family recipe. Was wonderful gliding past glaciers from our window seats in the dining room . . . we still have the souvenir glasses . . .
