I had the same thought as R179. The pastor's daughter, Ashley, who would pretend to pass out so she didn't have to drink alcohol, was in the basement at the end, too. It was an unusual choice, because otherwise, it was the original 5 who were in the basement with Ma (Maggie, Haley, Andy, Chaz, and Darrell).

My guess is that it a last-minute choice to include her for comic relief. (She pretended to wake up, then Maggie shook her head quickly and Ashley pretended to pass out again. It was funny.) But when Ma's daughter, Genie, came down to rescue the rest of the kids, you didn't see Ashley again. I think it was carelessness rather than a deliberate choice to kill the character.

Was the cop the guy Sue Ann blew in the school closet? Or was the kid a nerd who moved on, became successful and moved away?

Sue Ann had no interest to buy the kids booze until she noticed the van (with the company logo). That's when she realized who the boy was (the son of the guy she had a crush on in school and then humiliated her).

This is one of the few movies where I did root for the villain (Sue Ann). I howled when she ran over Mercedes.

Ben (Luke Evans) turned out to be a real shithead for what he did to Sue Ann as kids and then when he asks her on a date after work (only to insult her and warn her to stay away from his son).

I imagine the sequel will be Ma running a successful party planning business and her "Don't Make Me Drink Alone!" tagline in all of her ads.

I hope there really is a sequel, although I wonder how she would have made it out of that fire.

Watched this last night. Octavia was great! I liked seeing her with Allison Janney again.

I felt bad for the girl who got knocked out by Ma. I don't think she made it out of the fire. And Darrell got off the easiest with the face painting.

I would've stopped going to Ma's the second she showed up at my school. Kind of weird how the girls continued to brush her off her outbursts.

R287 Darrell got off the easiest because he committed no crime. He’s a black token friend in her eyes. They won’t allow more than one in their group, so he needed to be white, and her the black one.

If this had been done in the ‘70s this would’ve been an Avco Enbassy feature and it only would’ve played at drive-ins.

R289 and Shelley Winters, Yvonne De Carlo, or Ann Sothern would have played Ma.

I enjoyed it, but as others have said, it probably needed another draft or two of the script before heading into production and some of the editing felt weirdly choppy. I think I was most surprised by Juliette Lewis. She was natural, funny, and really someone to root for in this.

I saw this at the cineMA and it made me feel dirty!

I really liked it, but I stopped rooting for the kids when the lead girl started being a bitch to Juliette Lewis when she was just trying to give them a better life. What a cunty thing to say. I'm still mad Ma didn't chop her little ass up.

I was happy when Ma sewed that annoying little bitch's mouth shut.

This movie is showing on HBO now. It's really entertaining and Octavia is great in it. So is Luke.

I remember Octavia from her one line in Drew Barrymore's Never Been Kissed

Why did Ma put an iron on Chaz? He, like the black friend, was 100% nice to her after the stripping scene. He really just enjoyed partying.

r301 I had to do an IMBD search for Chaz's name, I didn't want to waste my time on the boy put in white face. Plus, Darnell didn't give us an ass shot. Come to think of it, the only person's name I could remember is Ma and Maggie.

the movie MA was okay. Creepy and a little scary. They did a good job of making Ma sometimes seem sympathetic.

A good cast in search of a script with a genre. A more physically alluring actress (Angela Bassett) in the role of the damaged Ma would have resulted in a different, but more believable "horror" film. Think Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction."

I hate those teen horror films. Every actor is so bland you can't even remember their names.

Watched it last week in HBO. I laughed hysterically when she ran over Missy Pile, looked in the rear view mirror and said “fucking cunt”. I think Ma is a DLer.

The pastor’s daughter did get out. You see her unmistakable horseface standing on the grass.

I watched this on Saturday. It was crazy. I’m glad I didn’t pay theater prices though. It was Tv good, not theater good
