British Royal Family Gossip: Part 30

Keep calm and carry on!

Here is the link to the previous thread Part 29.

The Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge appear together in Cambridge.

Woah!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 2March 19, 2019 2:42 PM

The Queen is cutting down on her public appearances but I expect more joint appearances with other members of the Royal Family when their schedules allow.

She had Prince Philip for a sidekick for so many years so it has to be kind of lonely just to have a lady-in-waiting accompany her instead of a family member.

by Anonymousreply 3March 19, 2019 2:47 PM

Cute that HM and Kate shared a blanket over their laps in the car. I imagine the practical Queen saying, "Goodness it's chilly. Put this over your lap, there we are."

So has the Queen ever done a joint appearance solely with Camilla? If not, you'd think she would, just for appearance's sake in support of Charles.

Diana is communicating with Megan from beyond the grace! "Don't end up a victim like me!"

by Anonymousreply 5March 19, 2019 3:10 PM

Della, I’m an ardent fan of yours, but I have to say that my dislike of Meghan has nothing to do with her race. Maybe it’s the case for some, but I don’t think it’s the case for many here. (Nor is it about wanting Harry for myself!)

And my dislike is mixed with admiration for her hustle and sheer BALLS. I always enjoy watching a good shit-stirring, so I’m glad to have the Duchess around. She makes the RF interesting. Before she came along, it was a yawn.

Cheers! *raises glass to Della*

by Anonymousreply 6March 19, 2019 3:22 PM

The Queen and Kate - please be seated.

by Anonymousreply 7March 19, 2019 3:30 PM

Reading comprehension isn't strong here on the DL. Poor Della made the truthful statement that many people have multiple reasons for being critical of Meghan. Some are critical and racists (group A). Some are critical and not racists (group B). Della is in group B. Do we need a diagram too?

Harry has been taking special classes, that recreate the labor, and delivery that women go through. He really is the sensitive sort. Meghan is very lucky to have snagged him. Here is a picture of him in class, he is an excellent student.

Now if you can't come down to a "normal" human level, do sod off and take your snotty nose git attitude out of here.

Why the fuck is Clooney cosying up to the royals, especially Meghan? He didn't know her from Adam when she was an actress. So false

by Anonymousreply 14March 19, 2019 3:45 PM

R14 - Clooney seems to have turned into a fame whore like his wife and her new best friend, Sparkle.

Maybe that's what happens when your acting career has cooled down considerably and you want to stay relevant.

by Anonymousreply 15March 19, 2019 3:50 PM

R5 there is no way this will happen: From psychic twins article. Diana reportedly also prophesied that Meghan and Harry's child will be "very close" with William and Kate's three children, and that the young royals will enjoy "play dates and activities."

by Anonymousreply 16March 19, 2019 3:50 PM

Clooney is an average actor who got lucky$ with his stupid tequila business.

by Anonymousreply 17March 19, 2019 3:53 PM

We were right, peeps. On Kate's big day with the Queen, Nutmeg and Dim have to show up (unannounced) at the New Zealand House to sign a book of condolence. They're so predicable. Couldn't it wait another day. Nope, the fame whores have to get themselves in the news.

Sorry but I prefer Meghan to Kate. I have never liked Kate. Not saying that I love MM, but Kate and her family come across as entitled grifters. Especially her mom and sister. Kate did nothing but bide her time waiting for William to propose? Putting her own life on hold for him? Does she any self esteem?

by Anonymousreply 24March 19, 2019 4:02 PM

So DimWit doesn't even stop to think "Grandma has a gig today, we should step back", makes me believe the theories here that he is a willing participant in MEghan's machinations and not just a naive victim.

by Anonymousreply 25March 19, 2019 4:03 PM

R25 - exactly. They're both giving the Queen the finger and they're in on it together. Two narcissists enabling each other.

by Anonymousreply 26March 19, 2019 4:07 PM

Yep, we all knew she would pull a stunt today. Tacky ho.

by Anonymousreply 27March 19, 2019 4:15 PM

While Hapless Harry stands aside, Meghan writes a BOOK (of condolence).

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 28March 19, 2019 4:17 PM

Is anyone hoping they're given enough rope to hang themselves. They're so pathetic and obvious is the jealousy. I thought Harry was happy being a spare, clearly not. I think meghan has been dripping poison in his ear that your mother used to call you good king Harry, you're more popular etc.

Harrys a dumb shit but she's evil. He seeping venom Harry is throwing at his brother, sister in law, grandma and nephews and niece is getting uncomfortable to watch. Hope he and meghan just over do it once and it back fires in their face spectacularly.

I'm impatient so I want will and Kate and others to go gun blazing on them so I get restless when trying to understand the long game.

I wish will and Kate would launch their own trust in Diana's name and meghans not allowed and he puts a ban on celebrities especially George and amal from being involved.

by Anonymousreply 29March 19, 2019 4:18 PM

R21 hmmm, one interpretation might be: “See, Meg? When you’re with the Queen and she’s wearing a hat, you fucking wear a hat. Then when you’re on your own you can take it off. Burn!”

by Anonymousreply 30March 19, 2019 4:18 PM

I must say, I read all of the “what stunt will she pull to deflect attention from Kate and the Queen?” posts with a grain of salt. But damned if she didn’t do it. It’s galling. The visit itself is fine but the timing is an insult to the Queen. Unbelievable.

by Anonymousreply 31March 19, 2019 4:23 PM

This is HazBean getting back at the Queen for not issuing a LP to make their offspring HRH.

by Anonymousreply 32March 19, 2019 4:23 PM

Unbelievable they did that . Nothing can keep that woman out of the spotlight . They will have to glue her to a chair in that house of her .

by Anonymousreply 33March 19, 2019 4:24 PM

R32 - or give them their own "court" (snicker).

by Anonymousreply 34March 19, 2019 4:23 PM

I thought her father would pop up with something to deflect from the Queen and Katherine but obviously they wanted their pictures in the paper. They really are pathetic. More House of Usher than Sussex

by Anonymousreply 35March 19, 2019 4:25 PM

All the rubbish about her not having SM accounts, her fans have been throwing hints about her "secret" appearance for three days. So secret, they had the paps in tow.

by Anonymousreply 36March 19, 2019 4:26 PM

dear god those flourishes on her handwriting. Calligraphers everywhere are silently screaming.

by Anonymousreply 37March 19, 2019 4:25 PM

R31 - exactly. They could have gone on Monday or even tomorrow to sign the condolence book but they just HAD to do it today (unannounced). The visit is fine but the timing is VERY BAD optics.

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2019 4:26 PM

William was representing the Queen at a Buckingham Palace investiture.

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2019 4:28 PM

I posted on the last thread a link to Rebecca English's ( Royal Reporter) Twitter, she had received a briefing that had made her spit her tea out and Tweeted " Wow, wow, wow....". So MM briefed all the press, band even English must have been shocked with what she was pulling off.

by Anonymousreply 40March 19, 2019 4:32 PM

and, not band.

by Anonymousreply 41March 19, 2019 4:32 PM

That is terrible, they mustn't have had Palace approval I'm assuming? Why didn't they go yesterday and sign on behalf of the whole family?

I thought she was on maternity leave and how can she wear stilettos when so pregnant?

by Anonymousreply 42March 19, 2019 4:34 PM

Are we sure that’s what Rebecca was talking about? It seemed like the “wow wow wow” had to do with some really nice news. Not so much a scoop about an unannounced appearance.

by Anonymousreply 43March 19, 2019 4:33 PM

By the way, Rebecca also tweets that the couple were asked to go by the queen, since they were the last ones in New Zealand. Sez who?

by Anonymousreply 44March 19, 2019 4:39 PM

R42 - some Instagram posts are saying the Queen asked them to go to New Zealand House and sign the book of condolence because they were the last ones to visit that country. I don't know WHEN she requested they go but I don't think she would want them to go on the same day she's out with Kate.

by Anonymousreply 45March 19, 2019 4:38 PM

I wonder how many plaques the Queen has unveiled over her decades of service.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 46March 19, 2019 4:40 PM

Boy, the commenters on DM sure called that one!

by Anonymousreply 47March 19, 2019 4:39 PM

R8 “Poor Della” nothing. She was agreeing with another post that was pushing the racism angle. “Oh, but I didn’t mean everyone” is disingenous to say the very least.

Maybe the pretentious cow should be more careful with her proclamations in future.

by Anonymousreply 48March 19, 2019 4:40 PM

Not really invested in all this crap, but I have to believe the Palace coordinates all visits and knows who is going where on which day. I'm sure there must be one (or more) senior staffers who keep an eye on exactly this type of potential no no. I mean, if the Queen is doing an appearance for such and such charity, someone must make sure that on that same day, another royal isn't making an appearance for a charity that might seem at odds or seem flat footed.

by Anonymousreply 49March 19, 2019 4:41 PM

R49 the same staffers that let prince Phillip drive? Yeah I dont think they’re very dependable.

by Anonymousreply 50March 19, 2019 4:42 PM

I wonder how the queen mother and Margaret would've dealt with the meghan nonsense. By all accounts they were terrifying women.

by Anonymousreply 51March 19, 2019 4:44 PM

R44, I think it's a lie, as Andrew was the last one to visit New Zealand. Why did they arrive just as Kate's solo visit had started?

by Anonymousreply 52March 19, 2019 4:43 PM

R49 - to me, it's become quite apparent that the Sussex couple do what they want, how they want and when they want without any supervision or coordination from the Palace. They already think they have their own court.

by Anonymousreply 53March 19, 2019 4:46 PM

Why didn't they go first thing this morning, after rush hour? Or this evening? Why is Meghan rubbing noses instead of observing protocol? Why does Harry feel the need to push her forward

by Anonymousreply 54March 19, 2019 4:47 PM

Kate had two engagements today. Meglatron was determined to destroy her press. I thought she'd already turned rogue, but since being denied her own court, this madam is going to go wild.

by Anonymousreply 55March 19, 2019 4:46 PM

Her calligraphy lessons were all for nothing. Pretentious flourishes.

by Anonymousreply 56March 19, 2019 4:46 PM

I have that impression too R53 . And no one puts a stop to it . These two really think they are above us all .

by Anonymousreply 57March 19, 2019 4:51 PM

R56 Looks like something a 7-year-old would do

by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2019 4:55 PM

But why isn't any doing anything about it?! I'm hoping there's a game plan in play by will and Kate, their court and the men in grey to expose hers and Harry's bs.

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2019 4:55 PM

Does Meghan have nice titties? She must have something amazing to keep that spoilt child Harry's attention

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2019 4:55 PM

R56. Lol. That signature just screams zero class.

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2019 4:55 PM

William gets his scarf game from Gran. Funny how when ME leans in to get her attention, HM immediately turns away. "Bitch, I ain't talkin to you."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 62March 19, 2019 4:56 PM

I really want someone to haul those two nincompoops in and bellow at them. I guess they can’t do it while she’s with child.

by Anonymousreply 63March 19, 2019 4:57 PM

I am a fan of Della, though every time I see the name, I think of the former Mrs. Bovey.

by Anonymousreply 64March 19, 2019 4:59 PM

R63 my immediate scenario for short term gratification is that they all do an engagement and will and Kate get so many cheers and hm get booed.

I wonder what stunt she'll pull for prince Louis's birthday because I'm 99% sure a photo of him will be released.

by Anonymousreply 65March 19, 2019 5:07 PM

I enjoyed Della's contributions to the Gone With The Wind threads.

by Anonymousreply 66March 19, 2019 5:07 PM

Yeah as long she is with child nobody can do anything . And she knows that all to well . I’m curious when she or the surrogate give birth what willl happen to her if she continious to do so .

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2019 5:35 PM

Fuck her coat looks awful.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2019 5:38 PM

That coat is horrible! How much did that cost us UK tax-payers?

And why did she need to take her bag in? Just leave it in the car

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2019 5:41 PM

I can't work out what Rebecca English's tweets could be about. She says it's something that almost made her spit out her tea "in a good way", but it's not baby-related. She also says it's "not news per se" and she doesn't know when it'll be revealed. Is she just messing with us?

by Anonymousreply 70March 19, 2019 5:42 PM

Its bespoke Gucci but looks like a giant gabardine garbage bag with buttons on her.

by Anonymousreply 71March 19, 2019 5:43 PM

The event with the Queen and Kate feels as if the Queen is handing off that particular project to Kate!

by Anonymousreply 72March 19, 2019 5:45 PM

Charles never said he wanted to be Camilla's tampon, he wanted to be her knickers! He said "Knowing my luck, I'll come back as a tampon!"

by Anonymousreply 73March 19, 2019 5:47 PM

I was wandering about that too . What is it that the DM holds back for us ? Something about Harry or his wife ?

by Anonymousreply 74March 19, 2019 5:52 PM

R74 - Maybe it is Letters Patent giving the Sussex kids HRHs after all, although I would have bet against it.

by Anonymousreply 75March 19, 2019 5:57 PM

Maybe its Big Lizzy stepping down, and making Bonnie Prince Charlie regent?

by Anonymousreply 76March 19, 2019 6:07 PM

Meghan's coat is bespoke! Here is the runway version. R71 nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 83March 19, 2019 6:36 PM

R80 if that had been MEghan, she would have shown up to the second engagement in a completely different--new--couture outfit like she did this last Commonwealth Day. Whereas easygoing Catherine is all, nah, I ain't got nothing to prove to ya'll and simply took off her hat.

by Anonymousreply 84March 19, 2019 6:39 PM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 85March 19, 2019 6:39 PM

It’s funny, like her or not, Camilla and Charles just look right together. So much more right than him and Diana. I know some of that is age and familiarity, but they just seem relaxed.

And that’s true about Kate not changing outfits. I wonder if she’s doing that a little bit on purpose, along with all the recycling heh. And by calling attention to the hat by its absence, she’s also low -key demonstrating than that when the Queen wears a hat, you bloody well wear a hat.

Kate's outfit is on brand. A brooch would have been nice, but that's a quibble.

Meghan's shoes are great. I love them. I also like the coat and their gigantic sleeves. I hate the embellished collar.

No comments about her going out sans tights/hosiery? Has she worn down the opponents of tights-free living here on DL? Rage against shiny legs.

by Anonymousreply 90March 19, 2019 7:02 PM

I love that pink coat the queen is wearing. Look at the sheen on it.

by Anonymousreply 91March 19, 2019 7:06 PM

Many of us do our best to avert gaze away from her wheelchair legs. So no tights today. Huh.

by Anonymousreply 92March 19, 2019 7:06 PM
The duke and duchess are among the first to sign the book of condolence, which opened to the public on Tuesday.

R38 They could not have gone on Monday because the book of condolences wasn't opened yet. Can't say why they didn't do it on a Wednesday. Maybe the queen wanted to show immediate support so Tuesday was chosen or maybe as R50 says the staff is shit at managing the royals.

by Anonymousreply 93March 19, 2019 7:11 PM

Kate was an art history major, wasn't she? Her taste is certainly not overtly arty, but I wonder if her interest in art has helped to understand things like the best color to wear in tandem with the Queen, so that she recedes and the Queen shines. Someone in the last thread made that point about the grey being the perfect complement to the pink in that regard.

by Anonymousreply 94March 19, 2019 7:23 PM

You could tell Meghan was having a really hard time not cheesing for the camera today — it would have been entirely inappropriate at such a somber occasion.

by Anonymousreply 95March 19, 2019 7:26 PM

R85 - "These two attention whores need to disappear for awhile."

Don't hold your breath. As soon as MeMe can get back into what she thinks are attractive clothes, we'll get telephoto "pap" shots of her wheeling the baby around the gardens of Windsor in her premium price pram, looking adoringly into the carriage, picking the baby up and putting it on her shoulder, ditto Harry.

Can't wait to see the "Here they come!" photos of the sixth in line's wife leaving the hospital with the seventh in line. Five gets you ten she'll still be wearing needle-heels.

Greatly anticipating the very rapid release of private but "official" photos, likely by the gent that did the engagement photos that looked like a perfume and, and of course the christening photos will be much anticipated.

But the Trooping comes earlier - the question is, will MeAgain be recovered enough to stand on the balcony? Or even worse - will she bring the baby with her so everyone in the crowd can see that Anything Kate Can Do I Can Do, Too!

by Anonymousreply 96March 19, 2019 8:03 PM

*like a perfume AD . . .

R96

by Anonymousreply 97March 19, 2019 8:04 PM

I imagine the pushing the pram around Windsor will come within a week of the birth, she won't be able to resist for any longer than that.

Have there been an photos of Harry and his new god daughter Lena Tindall?

by Anonymousreply 98March 19, 2019 8:12 PM

R98 "Have there been an photos of Harry and his new god daughter Lena Tindall?"

Not that I saw, but then there usually aren't godparent photos of that kind splashed about, even when the godparents are royals.

So - we're in countdown mode, which means it's do or die on wagers on date, name - including gender (oh, wait . . . ) - four-six godparents, and who will and will not attend the christening.

I'd add whether the DoE will die before the christening, but don't want to be morbid.

by Anonymousreply 99March 19, 2019 8:24 PM

No R98, they know Harry is stupid, and they don't want the baby to catch it.

by Anonymousreply 100March 19, 2019 8:25 PM

It's going to be a while away and megsy might not even be in the brf by then but I would love a prince and princess of Wales ceremony for will and Kate and her and Harry watching in jealousy. New tiaras and the Queens and Dianas beloved jewellery

by Anonymousreply 101March 19, 2019 8:29 PM

All right, I'll bite at my own invitation:

Date: 10 April

Gender: Female

Name: Diana Elizabeth Victoria

Godmothers: Amal Clooney, Jessica Mulroney, and Zara Tindall

Godfathers: one of the von Straubenzees for the social clout, and two others TBD

Attendees at July Christening: The godparents, and the Queen, the Cambridges (trying to hide their loathing for the poor babe's Mum), Charles and Camilla, and Meghan's mother, Doria.

What Meghan will wear: blush coloured suit and hat.

by Anonymousreply 102March 19, 2019 8:42 PM

I can't help but notice that Harry used the, "We are with you" line in his WE celebration speech a fortnight ago, too. Their catchphrase from here on out?

The insinuation of course being that others in the family are not with (with the targeted audience being addressed).

Oh, these two...

by Anonymousreply 103March 19, 2019 8:43 PM

I forgot possibly Serena Williams who might bump either Clooney or Mulroney so that the baby has one black godparent.

R102

by Anonymousreply 104March 19, 2019 8:47 PM

All the RF should show up in black at the christening.

After all, it's Sparkle's signature color.

by Anonymousreply 105March 19, 2019 8:50 PM

R105 - After Sparkle showed up at Louis's July christening in autumnal green including matching gloves in the heat, whilst everyone else was in appropriate summer baby christening pastels, Kate could always show up innocently sporting a rich mulberry coloured outfit, or royal blue, with a very short skirt so her much prettier legs show. Alas, Kate probably won't, instead she will probably show up in the very pretty and very regal light blue outfit she wore to the Trooping the Colour last spring, including the very tall hat, so that she towers over Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 106March 19, 2019 8:56 PM

I hope that neither the Cambridges or the queen shows up.

Lady Diana Elizabeth VicDoria

by Anonymousreply 109March 19, 2019 9:24 PM

R107 - They have to. This is Harry's first child - the Queen attended Prince George's christening she has to show at William's - if she was there for Lena Tyndall, she will have to be there for Lady Diana Mountbatten-Windsor; William is Harry's brother, and the Sussexes attended Louis's christening. No matter how much they dislike Meghan, they have to show up for the christening, absent major Acts of God such as Philip being raptured shortly before, or the Queen or Charles themselves dying unexpectedly.

They can skip the next Sussex baby christening, but they have to attend the first one. Absent Acts of God, only a major family split so big and noisy it can be seen and heard from Outer Space could possibly prevent their attendance, loathe though they may be to feed Meghan's triumphal ego at having borne Diana's grandchild.

Everyone will keep the side up for the cameras, smiling in the official photos behind the sofa on which are ensconced the Duchess Mama and Lady M-W bebe, with Harry directly behind, his hands proudly on Meghan's shoulders.

What is that word they wrote in the condolence book at r56? Arohanui? Arohami? Is that some woke shit?

Goddamn, I thought calligraphy was supposed to be pretty AND legible.

by Anonymousreply 115March 19, 2019 9:53 PM

So it seems the Rebecca English "wow wow wow" tweet was about the Sussexes trip to New Zealand House. Based on her tweets, she left the engagement with Kate and the Queen after the shaking of the robotic arm and arrived in time for the start of the Sussex event.

Studies in blue.

Camillia fades too much into the background here, but photos of these three ladies together are always spectacular. After Camilla's greeting to Catherine in Westminster Abbey during the Commonwealth Day service and then sticking by her side to chitchat before the procession was an eye opening glimpse into how warm their relationship is.

R121 arohanui - much love; with deep affection (often used as a formula for ending a letter)

by Anonymousreply 124March 19, 2019 10:31 PM

For R121

Along with his name Harry signed the word "Arohanui” which is Maori for ‘best wishes.’

by Anonymousreply 125March 19, 2019 10:31 PM

I still maintain that fucked up “calligraphy” is a telltale sign this bitch is crazy.

Is she some eleven year old doodling in her journal? That’s exactly what it looks like.

Why on earth would she think ANYONE is interested in her swirly handwriting?

She really is the ultimate “Look at me! Look at me! I made a poopie!” millennial.

by Anonymousreply 126March 19, 2019 10:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 127March 19, 2019 10:38 PM

BP told the press about the Sussex visit.
Just to clarify: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit to NZ House today wasn’t announced in advance but UK royal correspondents and photographers were informed in confidence to aid our coverage. That’s usual practice and we thank the palace for that.
The other point to clarify: Meghan has not started her maternity leave. We were told she had behind the scenes meetings still in her diary and that when she finished work would probably depend on how she felt. Perfectly understandable.
Palace officials did say after her Commonwealth Day engagements she had no more public duties planned. But it was also made clear that it was still possible that something unexpected might come up.

The blanket the queen had in the car is electric. That makes it even more cute.

Of course, H&M are mourning the victims of the NZ massacre. Millions around the world are mourning the loss. (However, MM needs to wipe that greasy slap off her face and stop taking direction from Jessica Mulroney...)

[R126] Yesssss, thank you! The handwriting ('calligraphy') on Megs makes me lol. It doubly makes me lol that so many genuinely seem to think it's classy. First of all, what kind of a showy attention whore do you have to be to write like that in your everyday life? That letter she sent to her dad (that she definitely didn't intend to get out, no, nope, nuh-uh) was so ridiculous. I can't tell if it would be better or worse if it was decent calligraphy. perhaps a little better but not much. It looks like a child's attempt at fancy writing, it's sloppy in multiple places. When I think of everything she's done, worn, said etc., the handwriting might be, to me, the clearest 'holy shit she ACTUALLY is who a lot of us suspected' sign of them all. It's either tied or slightly beats the pregnancy outfit on a nonexistent (at the time) bump at Yuge's wedding.

Apart from the handwriting itself is just the lack of awareness it shows with regards to the world she now inhabits. Does she have any idea how the actual fancy people are going to view that shit? That's the kind of thing that gets whispered and snickered over in private conversations. It's laughable.

Not pearl clutching, either, I hope she keeps it up and more. It's entertaining as hell.

by Anonymousreply 147March 20, 2019 12:39 AM

Later that day, Catherine went to her new patronage project, the Foundling Museum in Bloomsbury. Historically an orphanage type facility, it is in line with her interest in children, and is an interesting museum on a London visit.

by Anonymousreply 148March 20, 2019 12:49 AM

Date: 3 April

Gender: Female

Name: Diana (something) Doria. I'm VERY curious about the name, myself. I think it'll be a great sign as to the real intentions and feeling of the parents, given all our delicious speculation. Using 'Elizabeth' anywhere in there, and I could definitely see it being used between Diana and Doria in my guess, is, imo, a "we're still trying to appear respectful" message. Also very curious, if it's a girl (and I'm hoping it is), if they'll actually go for Diana as the first name. That, too, would be a huge message. I do expect there to be some royal or aristocratic name in there, because Meghan is too conscious of needing to appear U now.

Godmothers: Jessica Mulroney (at some point Megs is going to have to dump this girl - they're twinsies in almost every sense but only Megsy married into royalty and Jessica didn't), Serena Williams, Amal Clooney (? not sure about this one - Amal's absence or presence on the list will say a lot about the M/H's shamelessness levels). If not Amal, some other famous person?

Godfathers: No idea, probably a bunch of Harry's aristo friends. Guy Pelly, for one. Possibly someone on Diana's side of the family? Is he close to any male members of the Spencer clan? Is there anyone Diana was close to (not like that) who would be a suitable candidate?

Attendees at July Christening: What everyone else said.

What Meghan will wear: Cream coloured dress that reveals the loss of every ounce of baby weight (I'm half-anticipating her appearing on the hospital steps with no physical signs of having just given birth).

by Anonymousreply 149March 20, 2019 12:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 150March 20, 2019 12:51 AM

After MM spits out the first brat she will probably get pregnant again right away to keep the attention on her and further cement her spot in the BRF.

by Anonymousreply 151March 20, 2019 12:55 AM

Della, girl come on now. I must protest again R146

I'm willing to like Kate's dress. When you compare it Michelle's styling of the Thom Browne then I'm reminded of what it could have been. Kate's outfit looks like someone took the Thom Browne and wrung the fierce out of it.

Before you bitches come for me, I'm not saying Kate should wear or can even carry off fierce outfits. Yes her outfit was as appropriate as fuck. Yes it allowed Liz's pepto coat to take centre stage. Kate's dress did all it was supposed to do and that is good.

My point is that Della has wounded me with the reminder of a fashionably fierce moment.

lol, r152.

Ok, ok. now that you've posted the contrast, I concede your point, BUT, I wrote the "cut" of Kate's cut reminded me of MO's, however, you're right, the ferocity of MO's is absent from Kate's.

by Anonymousreply 158March 20, 2019 1:21 AM

Lying here with insomnia, looking at pictures of tiaras. Eugenie’s was absolutely the most gorgeous seen recently. She was a truly lovely bride. To think all her wedding coverage was eclipsed - what, the very next day? That really was a shame.

by Anonymousreply 170March 20, 2019 5:38 AM

What are the odds Meghan could deliver a black baby?

by Anonymousreply 171March 20, 2019 5:51 AM

Do you think Meghan signed "Har" in his place ? It seems to me (i 'm not graphologist but..) that no way someone who writes capital "A" as he actually does, writes the capital "H" this way. And the "a" in "Har" looks very much like the "a" in the text Meghan wrote. If she did, it would be sooooo telling.

by Anonymousreply 172March 20, 2019 8:04 AM

Yes Eugenie looked so good in her Wedding dress and the famous tiara ! They where made for each other . Gorgeous tiara she wore .

by Anonymousreply 173March 20, 2019 10:09 AM

YES, R172! I think you’re right!

That’s so creepy.

What a freak she is.

That would explain why Harry scrawled the additional greeting at the bottom.

by Anonymousreply 174March 20, 2019 10:19 AM

The Queen's style book is fairly easy to follow.

If you're appearing with Queen, if she wears a hat, you do too.

Your clothes should be carefully tailored.

Wear hose.

Choose cheerful colors, so the public can spot you in a crowd.

Anyone who posts on these threads know these rules. So why is Meghan so determined to thumb her nose up?

by Anonymousreply 175March 20, 2019 10:45 AM

Has anyone mentioned the "We are with you" in the condolence book being the same catch phrase as was used in the speech Harry gave to the youth when he dragged Meghan on stage with him? They are over doing their "branding."

Another day, another Sparkle hate rant by Frau's. ...still mad they don't have the ginger Prince. Quite sad ladies, and very pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 184March 20, 2019 12:25 PM

Wow - Harry's seen here with a bunch of . . . white kids in England!!!!! How often do we see that? Someone fucked up on the PR end.

He's looking pretty unappealing these days - balding in that area is bad enough but it's particularly ewwsome on a frizzy-haired ginge. The Windsors often produce sprogs that are very attractive in their late teens and twenties, but start losing their looks quickly in their thirties - both William and Harry exhibit this trait. Once the hair starts to go, their horsey or gapped teeth, big noses, big ears, and dull minds start to show - mostly what they have going for them is height. Charles was an exception: he looked like a geek till he was in his mid-thirties and hit his peak of at least looking distinguished in his forties. The women fare somewhat better, but not by much.

Harry isn't even going to look distinguished. He's headed for early middle age looking like his Uncle Edward.

by Anonymousreply 187March 20, 2019 1:08 PM

What exactly is a "coat dress"? Is it a coat styled like a dress, worn with a dress underneath? Is it a dress in a heavier fabric, like a coat?

by Anonymousreply 188March 20, 2019 1:14 PM

I usually distrust selective reading of photos except in scattered instances where they reflect actual deeds (e.g., Meghan's maternity coat stunt at Yuge's wedding), but I must agree that Harry always seems more relaxed and happier when he's doing events solo these days, especially if they're laddish ones. Mentally, I keep substituting the fun-loving Chelsy Davy at events and seeing a far rosier, relaxed, happier, more natural looking couple.

R188 - A coatdress is exactly what it's name suggests: a dress that is styled so that it can do double duty as both - a single garment like a dress but with tailoring details that are coatlike over which a coat isn't worn. The heavier fabric depends on the season, as there are warm weather dresses that straddle the coatdress look in light colours and fabrics. Diana had several very attractive ones - I seem to remember one in a mustard colour worn on a trip Down Under and a pink one, as well.

by Anonymousreply 189March 20, 2019 1:24 PM

Heh heh, you can just bet once she had Harry in her sights, Meghan secretly practiced that fancy royal signature. That's the height of lofty fame, isn't it, when you sign your first name only. "Meg...han.....R....." (swoop). If only her name were a little grander. Oh well, at least it's not Kaylee or Krystyn.

by Anonymousreply 190March 20, 2019 1:26 PM

Fan fiction:

H: A slogan, eh? Right! Let's see. How about.... 'Stronger Together'?

M: No-WUH. Don't be stupid. That was Hillary's. Quiet, let me think. 'We Are Together'....'We Are One'......I know! 'We are WITH YOU!' I love it. Ok, now remember, it's important to reinforce the message whenever possible.

H. Right. Got it.

by Anonymousreply 191March 20, 2019 1:31 PM

Prince Harry never looks comfortable surrounded by press.Meghan seems to have calmed him a bit. An i find Meghan's pushy need for cameras similar to Camilla's,that Blackamoor tarts,Mama Middleton and most if the cousins living off Queen Elizabeth's privy purse.I hope Prince Charles is not so generous with these faux royals

by Anonymousreply 192March 20, 2019 1:47 PM

There has been speculation that Harry is aware of your various Hairy comments, and while he is thought to be considering some sort of plug surgery, in the meantime might have opted to have a PERM placed into his hair. It puffs the follicles up over the skin, somewhat.

by Anonymousreply 193March 20, 2019 1:49 PM

Harry looked great in his suit at the New Zealand signing thing.

by Anonymousreply 194March 20, 2019 2:32 PM

R192 - Carole Middleton is barely ever seen on camera; she was virtually completely silent until last year when she gave a couple of interviews, and you almost never see her elsewhere, so stop the bullshit. She's been photographed at Ascot in the Royal Enclosure, and at church with the family a few times, and other than that you never see her allegedly "camera hungry" self. Nor is Camilla particularly camera-centric although as a royal she IS supposed to wave and smile.

The fact is, Meghan makes them all look like introverts.

by Anonymousreply 195March 20, 2019 2:40 PM

R171 - Very slight given that its DNA is likely about 75% Caucasian - which its mother, although she would die before admitting it, saw to deliberately, and is likely secretly fervently hoping is the case - or she wouldn't have narrowed her nose or spent years brutalising her probably lovely natural hair to make it look straight, and studiously avoided marrying anything but white men - for all her playing the race card when it suits her (no pun intended).

All this talk on sites about MEghan pulling Harry away from the royal family... I would exult if ultimately this led to the two of them breaking off from The Firm entirely, no more Sovereign Grant/taxpayer payola, no rights to line of succession, no HRH for their kids ever.

I realize part of why I was put off by MEghan (beside the shit she spews out of her own mouth) is the realization that anyone eager to marry a dim fool like Harry is just as worthless as the idiot, if not more so.

Revamp the BRF and cutoff the Sussexes as working royals; let them go off on their own to establish their so-called "global brand" and bring in Eugenie and Beatrice to pick up the slack. The two of them will far outpace Harry and his sad mess.

by Anonymousreply 209March 20, 2019 3:51 PM

They have the best jobs. Just need to turn up on time, suitably well dressed and be nice to people. Wouldn't you love to browse among the Queen's handbag, hat and 'everyday' jewellery collection of brooches, necklaces etc? Bet her stuff doesn't smell of old auntie.

Spinster Harry? Possibly one of the most feeble excuses ever.

by Anonymousreply 211March 20, 2019 3:59 PM

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the Sussexes pitched their idea to the rest of the family.

I still don't understand how it would have worked. They would set up their own charity? Then they would solicit donations, especially from celebrities, who they would then invite to glamorous parties (where the Sussexes would mingle with the celebs and extend their network of "friends" who can lend them vacation homes, yachts, and private jets). Then, I imagine they would need to reserve a portion of the donated money to cover "administrative costs"; this would provide salaries for staff...and perhaps even income for the Sussex company? And they wanted to remain working royals at the same time? (I guess the housing, insurance and other benefits are good.)

They could still do all of the above...but without the royal titles, if Harry abdicates his place in line. But without the royal titles, will the celebs line up to donate and hang out with them? Charles might still let them live in one of the palaces, possibly rent-free, so there's that...

Interesting, r213.

There have been a few changes in Harry. None of them good. His hair is disappearing rapidly, he seems morose and his clothing has been disheveled (holes in the soles of his shoes).

by Anonymousreply 220March 20, 2019 4:55 PM

R220 He was a fool not to marry Chelsy, who was crazy about him for himself, not his title or the A-List celebrityhood he could confer on her, his money, or the "global brand" he could help her get for herself.

by Anonymousreply 221March 20, 2019 5:00 PM

R221, too bad he didn’t. When I think of her, I always imagine a sloppy-drunk but fun sorority sister. But I don’t think she’d have been using him to elevate herself the way MM is. And she wouldn’t have alienated his entire family.

by Anonymousreply 222March 20, 2019 5:18 PM

Chelsy didn't want the royal life. She is on record as having said that. The official story is that she called time on the relationship. Perhaps part of it was because Harry was a shit, but some of it was the media scrutiny.

Some of the criticism of Meghan would have happened to anyone Harry married and Chelsy has said it scared and overwhelmed her.

by Anonymousreply 223March 20, 2019 5:21 PM

R222 - Her sloppy drunk image was exaggerated by the press at the time, who gave her quite a hard time (contrary to those who think that because she was white she got some kind of free pass from media like the DM). In fact, she was well-educated and they were after all two young rich kids at the time. But she radiated fun, affection, and clearly adored him. I think it was a question of that old issue, timing. Five years later and who knows? Perhaps she'd have been more open to risking the whole thing with him. Instead, he stuck himself and the UK with a social climbing grifter who wouldn't have looked twice at him if he hadn't been HRH Harry Windsor, and who is clearly using him and the BRF to get what her own talents never achieved: global celebrity, security, a title, and a platform to turn herself into a "brand".

What happened between The Duchess of Frogmore and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas? Priyanka was on The View yesterday and they didn't ask her about her royal friend this time whereas when she was on around the time of the wedding they did ask and she was happy to talk about it...

by Anonymousreply 225March 20, 2019 5:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 226March 20, 2019 5:35 PM

R225 - What R226 and R227 said.

by Anonymousreply 228March 20, 2019 5:36 PM

During the entire Harry wedding all I could think about is how different the vibe would be if it were Chelsy. It would have been a blow the roof off celebration since Harry's family all adored her and had known her for years. And HE had known her for years, so it wouldn't have been like watching him shit himself up there during the service.

That said I don't think it was timing. I believe the stories that Harry and Chelsy tried again in 2015 (when he was visiting Africa). That would make almost 11 years of trying. Obviously she adored him, and obviously his whole family adored her. They would have done anything to make it easier for her to join the family, particularly as Harry wasn't going to be king so his wife wouldn't have the same burden as Kate. And Chelsy was well educated - she has a law degree.

I think the problem comes down to Harry. I think Chelsy could have gotten over her qualms about the BRF, particularly as she had an even better getaway than Kate. Kate has her family's English home, but Chelsy has her dad's property in Zimbabwe (her childhood home). I think it's Harry. The media portrays them as partying peas in a pod, but during their relationship Chelsy earned her university degree and her law degree, which is more than Harry managed. Chelsy practiced law as an associate in London. I think Harry has serious problem / issues and this was something Chelsy had to confront when there's a lifetime commitment on the line.

by Anonymousreply 229March 20, 2019 5:37 PM

The betting has been slashed on the Sohobebe being a girl. Betting outlets base odds on punters' bets, so if a few punters put down large bets on something, the betting outlets adjust odds accordingly. No matter how you slice it, the odds can only be 50-50 and the "signals" punters are using as a basis for their bets are pretty flimsy.

Just reporting in . . . of course, I do hope it's a girl, as the girls' names and clothing will be so much more fun.

R229 - You may be right, it's hard to know from this distance in time. But I do agree that the entire wedding vibe would have been different, they'd probably have been allowed to marry at the Abbey in London the way Andrew and Sarah did, even though the Wales's already had two sons and Andrew was down to fourth in line, and it would have been genuinely joyous and exciting, not like that second-rate sort-of-kinda half-arsed, Well if we must, we must, ceremony Harry and MeAgain got.

by Anonymousreply 232March 20, 2019 5:43 PM

R212 I suspect they wanted the British Royal family to write them big checks to run their own operation. And the BRF said no fucking way. They knew what that would be. Total grift, total show.

Neither one of them are cut out to do real foundation work. Deal constructively with staff, solicit donations, have events and fundraising meetings to get people on board. They are short-attention span-having attention junkies who want a lot of money and no responsibility or actual work. They both want to do the showy part - show up and wave, show off their personalities on camera, good'night and good'by.

by Anonymousreply 233March 20, 2019 5:44 PM

R233 - "They are short-attention span-having attention junkies who want a lot of money and no responsibility or actual work. They both want to do the showy part - show up and wave, show off their personalities on camera, good'night and good'by."

In a nutshell.

by Anonymousreply 234March 20, 2019 5:47 PM

P.S. I about choked when Paul Burrell proposed that the BRF send Harry and Markle to Australia to get them out from under William and Kate. Where Harry could be Governor General. Yes, that would go over well. Send a guy who, without his family money and the accident of birth has as much to offer as an alcoholic skid row drop out bumming change to feed his drug habit. Have him weight in on parlimentary measures, which is part of the job. That maneuver would hasten the Republic faster than anything else.

by Anonymousreply 235March 20, 2019 5:48 PM

I good time, R198. There will be as many books on Harry/Meghan as there were on Diana and it's going to make Diana's bio look sedate.

by Anonymousreply 236March 20, 2019 5:51 PM

Now, that the Queen and Charles have given the Hazbean brand a royal thumbs down, I'm getting my popcorn ready for a Diana-Panorama-type interview (either Harry or Meghan solo or as a couple) with them whining on about how much good they want to do in the world but the Royal Family isn't allowing them to be themselves. "We're so contrained by protocol, we want to be free to live our lives"...blah blah blah. It will probably be an American interview because the Brits will roll their eyes at all of their false woes.

by Anonymousreply 237March 20, 2019 5:59 PM

R235 Governors General do not weigh in on parliamentary issues. GG's are figureheads.

The problem with Burrell's suggestion isn't the Harry part, it's the entitled idea that Brits can farm out their sons to the former colonies. The PM of the country picks the GG, not the queen. I don't think there are any British GG's left in the former colonies. To my memory, the last one was Chris Patten in 1997. Most of the other nations started picking native born GG's in the 1970s or 80s.

by Anonymousreply 238March 20, 2019 6:02 PM

I grew to respect Chelsy; she seems fun-loving and she applied her rich privilege by getting herself well-educated. She has done something with her life beyond, say, opening a briefcase or her legs to get a supporting part in a nothing basic cable show produced in Toronto because no budget. Harry is empty beyond his title and birthright, he is a wasted life. Good-riddance for her I say. I just wish she had two black biological parents just to shut shrews the fuck down that it is MEghan's bi-racialness we find offensive. No you cunts, it ME's superficial character and flagrant self-serving phony-ass behavior we disdain. Doria being her biological mother may be her ONLY redeeming feature.

R238 is correct: neither the monarchy nor the British Parliament "assigns" GGs to Commonwealth countries, even ones historically closer in character to Britain like Canada and Australia. There are also strong Republican movements in Australia. Foisting Harry and Meghan off on the place would go down very badly, indeed. That said, I think there is a grain of truth in the idea that Harry got the Commonwealth gig, and his wife the meaningless VP title of the Queen's Commonwealth organisation, was in some sense a conscious effort to focus the couple outside of the UK, whilst the Cambridges enhanced their profile inside the UK after the last baby was born. Whilst this may at first have been a reasonable division of labour, I don't doubt that after the BRF got a first-hand look at what Meghan really wanted and was pushing Harry to obtain for her, made a focus outside the UK something along the lines of "Get them out of here!"

The problem is, that it is UK taxpayers helping to keep the Sussexes living the good life, not Australian or NZ or Canadian taxpayers, who as it is have to shell out millions in security and other costs every time a royal visits.

by Anonymousreply 248March 20, 2019 6:20 PM

R246 - Indeed she was, and due to her voluptuous figure, was called "Melons" inside the BRF. Her husband was gorgeous, as well, they made a very handsome couple. He later developed a form or blood cancer but received treatment and recovered. I believe one of their children is named "Columbus".

I like this sapphire tiara. Here is the info in this post:

The Geroge VI Sapphire Tiara (known by a host of other names) was created in 1963 from a 19th century sapphire necklace. The Queen commissioned the tiara to match a sapphire necklace and earrings that her father, King George VI, had given her when she married Prince Phillip in 1947. This tiara, like the Burmese Ruby Tiara, is unique because it was not inherited by the Queen but rather commissioned by her. It gives us a unique glimpse into her taste and style.

Geography is actually much harder and more useful depending on the university.

by Anonymousreply 256March 20, 2019 6:29 PM

R255 - Depends what you want to do with Art History and, as you say, the university. I have a friend who worked his tail off getting an AH degree at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in the early 1970s, it was extremely rigorous, and without it he would not have the career he has now at a major auction house - it was always meant to be a "career" tool for him, and whilst that is often not the case with rich kids who have no intention of working, it is not always the case. I think initially William went in for something else and switched to geography because it was easier, but don't quote me on that, as I'm not sure.

by Anonymousreply 257March 20, 2019 6:29 PM

R257 - I think he was in art history and found it too difficult so switched to geography.

by Anonymousreply 258March 20, 2019 6:32 PM

Yeah, William initially had a different major (can't recall which) and had some sort of crisis and considered dropping out. I read Charles intervened and encouraged him to remain with the Geography major.

by Anonymousreply 259March 20, 2019 6:32 PM

R256 - I agree completely. She's been notably beautiful, photogenic, and striking from childhood. Neither of her parents are as good-looking as she is. Her mother is quite attractive enough, but not at the level of young Margarita, and her father had some of the less attractive qualities of his father's and mother's looks. Margarita is one of those fortunates whose chromosomes resulted in a blend of all the attractive qualities of her parents and none of the bad ones.

by Anonymousreply 260March 20, 2019 6:34 PM

R257 Your friend may be the exception re working hard to get his art history degree. If one grows up with lots of art and was private (public) school trained then the art history may not be that hard.

R258 Geography is definitely harder in general. William has an A in geography and a B in art at A levels. He started his degree in art history and that was a bad fit for him.

Proviso: it depends on the university and the courses selected.

by Anonymousreply 263March 20, 2019 6:45 PM

It certainly makes more sense for a future monarch to study geography. It's striking how many have the AH degree, both York girls, Catherine, the Chattos. Don't any study law, medicine, engineering, international relations, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 270March 20, 2019 7:03 PM

I think the Kent Family are the smartest branch of the family.

Lord Nicholas Windsor has a degree in theology from Oxford and converted to Catholicism. His mother the Duchess of Kent converted as well. His older brother the Earl of St Andrews has an MA but I can't remember for what subject. He was a diplomat for a while and he's married to a Canadian-born academic who is an historian at Cambridge.

Their cousin Lord Frederick Windsor graduated in Classics at Oxford. He is now a banker. His sister Lady Gabriella Windsor from Brown University in Rhode Island with a BA degree in Comparative Literature. She also earned an MPhil degree in Social Anthropology from Oxford.

The Queen's cousin the Duke of Gloucester has a degree in architecture from Cambridge.

R270 Their internal hate and the unfounded opinion that army officers are not as smart as people who have managed to earn an art history degree.

I've seen bitches on here talking about Kate's degree as if she were freaking Einstein. Her degree is good but I personally rank it lower than the average Sandhurst graduate.

OK flippant comments aside, Harry cheated on his A levels and didn't pay enough to keep his partner in crime silent. His entrance to Sandhurst is therefore suspect, but no evidence has ever emerged that he cheated his way through military school or that he was given special treatment in the army beyond the security details/privacy to prevent his team being targeted by the Taliban/ISIS.

I think the real problem with Harry is his tendency to say the wrong thing. He did an interview where he sounded ungrateful for his job as an army pilot because he wanted to be on the ground like his first tour in 2008. It came off as ungrateful. The "family she never had" statement at Christmas reminded me of that interview. It upset people and it didn't have to happen.

I'd say Harry isn't so much a dimwit as he isn't very diplomatic and he hasn't always enjoyed the strictures of his life. Pretty average rich kid, second son, baby of the family kind of behaviour IMO. He is no great intellect, but he seems to have been a hard-working an high qualified army officer. If he weren't a Windsor his education and training would make him a fairly successful member of society.

R238 Governors General were always assumed to be figureheads but then in 1975 the Australian Governor General Sir John Kerr sacked the Australian Labor Prime Minister Gough Whitlam over a critical funding issue (the Liberal controlled Senate blocked funding to the government), forcing a general election, which Labor lost.

It’s still not clear how much of this the Queen was aware of, whether she knew up front and advised Kerr or whether she was informed after the fact.

This power of an appointed representative of the Crown is one of the drivers of the Australian republican movement.

by Anonymousreply 279March 20, 2019 8:03 PM

Anyway it’s a moot point - there’s no way Australia would accept any foreigner in the GG role today, especially that uneducated fool. His father was proposed as GG to Australia a generation ago and there was uproar at the very suggestion.

by Anonymousreply 280March 20, 2019 8:05 PM

Once more, da Queen got any tattoos?

by Anonymousreply 281March 20, 2019 8:06 PM

R276 - I think Harry is dim and suffers from foot-in-mouth, and I also believe he is immature, spoilt, resentful, and incapable of dealing with his issues except by acting out. I think he has always been ambivalent about the "work", which I suspect bores him (incidental patronage isn't much of a job for a grown man). In addition to boring him, because of the structure of the institution that has given him so much on the one hand, on the other that structure also guarantees that unlike men in other careers, no matter how well he does the work or how much of it he does - he'll never get promoted. And then, of course, there are his unresolved issues about that institution and his mother; the real tragedy of the Wales marital debacle is that it forced the children to be torn in different loyalties. Certainly, the two sons are not the first children of divorce to be dealt that card, but in their case, it extended beyond parents to an ancient institution and the family's dependence on the survival of that institution with its privileges and meaning intact.

Harry hasn't shown much brains in any of these arenas, and falling for a gamer as transparent as Meghan Markle, who fooled nobody but Harry (unless you want to count Kaiser and the Meghan stans on Celebitchy), doesn't speak to Harry having learnt much by the time he was over thirty. That with his experience of the British media, he allowed Meghan to goad him into threatening them before they were even engaged; that he didn't stop her from talking to the press about their relationship before an engagement was announced - that he didn't see what it meant that she leapt for the Vanity Fair cover article breaking a cardinal rule of dating royals (legs open, mouth shut to the press); that he didn't get the import of her refusal to support British fashion; that he didn't get the optics of that baby shower; that he didn't get what it meant that she went out on her own and arranged the PEOPLE Magazine travesty; that he really thought the two of them (read: Meghan) could force the Queen and her heir to let them go their merry way on the UK taxpayer's penny and set up their own brand outside the UK . . .

He has all the earmarks of a man trapped by his own stupidity. And now, he will drink that cup to the dregs, including his wife's sullen whingeing about not getting what she expected out of this marriage, and the anger and distancing of his family because he made a mistake that everyone else could see plainly across the Atlantic.

You can argue about the validity of IQ tests from now till Domesday, but the bottom line is, if Harry's eventual choice of a wife and his handling of her conduct and her objectives are anything to go by . . .

he merits in full the label Dimwit.

R279 1975 is not 2019. Blindly obvious I thought. Governors General had power when the system was developed but now they don't. They are not weighing in or parliamentary issues in the way R235 seems to think they do.

I stand by my assertion in R238 that Commonwealth nations will not take kindly to the imposition of any Brit as a Governor General. Harry's stupidity or intelligence is irrelevant. The problem with Burrell's suggestion is that it is imperialistic and would erode any goodwill left between the UK and the Commonwealth.

Fuck him for thinking that the solution to the BRF's personal problems is to outsource it to the former colonies.

by Anonymousreply 287March 20, 2019 8:34 PM

And that includes us too.

R287 R288 - Second both those posts. And adding a third comment: Burrell is a well-known bottom feeder and it is embarrassing that a Brit wouldn't know what R288 seems to know all the way from across the Pond.

by Anonymousreply 289March 20, 2019 8:45 PM

R287 You are wrong, at least in Australia’s case.

While 1975 is not 2019 (great attempt at sarcasm, btw), the Australian Constitution is unchanged with regard to the powers of the Governor General. S/he still has the power to withdraw the commission of the elected Prime Minister.

I’m not disagreeing with your assertion about Harry being unsuitable for the role - not sure where you got that from.

by Anonymousreply 290March 20, 2019 8:47 PM

That should be the next poll: which of the BRF women have a hidden tattoo?

by Anonymousreply 291March 20, 2019 8:49 PM

R284 - R281 is barking up the wrong tree; someone tell him about the young Princess Elizabeth's unexpected appetite for sex, discovered upon marrying the handsome Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, who actually complained where he could be heard about not being able to keep the Princess out of his bed. His father-in-law, King George VI, had to take him aside and tell him to shut the fuck up about it.

I think that's worth more than any petty discussion of tattoos, don't you?

by Anonymousreply 292March 20, 2019 8:52 PM

Here you go, R287 (if you’re interested enough) scroll down to the powers and functions of the Governor General, and the words of HM’s Private secretary regarding the 1975 crisis. The Australian GG retains these powers (this is on the official website of the Australian Parliament) today.

Of course this is just the situation in Australia - I have no idea what each of the constitutions of the other Commonwealth realms with HM as head of state specify. But I’m sure that you do!

R290 Shock and awe that a former British colony with a parliamentary democracy has a constitutional provision for the GG to remove the PM. Without it, there would be no formal sense in which the Queen is head of state.

Good luck using that power without unleashing a crisis that would likely end with a wave of republicanism across the Commonwealth.

by Anonymousreply 294March 20, 2019 8:56 PM

Yes, R290 - that’s my point, which you either didn’t get or ignored to try and win an argument.

The use of that power in 1975 did unleash a wave of republican sentiment in Australia, and was the driving force behind the foundation of the modern Australian Republican Movement.

FYI I’m a member of the ARM, so I’m familiar with the 1975 crisis and its continued impact on Australian politics today.

R295 You seem confused or intentionally combative. You are referring to the royal prerogative or reserve powers of the crown. They are not meant to be used. The use of them triggers constitutional crises. Governors General are meant to be figure heads. That is my point at R238. They do not have the parliamentary powers R235 seems to think they have. You started an argument by citing the exception that proves why they are ceremonial rather than real powers but you said
Governors General were always assumed to be figureheads

I disagree. As far as I can see, this is not assumed; this is the intention. The last time a GG acted as if his power were not ceremonial it created a crisis. In the countries where this was not case there are no republican movements of note. Politicians across the Commonwealth have tried to propose republicanism but usually these moves have failed because the crown/GG is seen as a benign figure.

by Anonymousreply 300March 20, 2019 9:25 PM

R300 I’m not confused and honestly not combatitive. What I am doing is rushing to get to work so this is quick:

I’ll leave you with this - if the GG’s powers in Australia were ceremonial how was he able to sack a sitting PM and not be sacked himself? What he did was, sadly, completely legal, as it would be if it happened again today.

The other thing that you need to realise is that you talk about politicians “across the Commonwealth have tried to propose republicanism”. You do realise that the majority of Commonwealth countries are republics, right? The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

So, no - not combatitive, I just have issues with pompous know-it-alls presenting opinion as fact. Which you continue to do.

Happy to continue this later but will be offline for ten hours during my working day so feel free to continue your ill-informed rant in my absence.

by Anonymousreply 301March 20, 2019 9:40 PM

R295 is going for broke on a straw man argument. Apply the principle of charity.

R238 means the Governors General are intended to be figure heads not participants in parliamentary discussions. The fact that the Governor General of Australia acted contrary to tradition in 1975 doesn't invalidate the argument that Governors General are not expected to be involved in parliamentary actions.

It should be noted that membership in the Commonwealth these days is entirely voluntary. Several nations have either left or been "suspended" and afterward asked to rejoin (notably, Gambia, Pakistan, South Africa, and Fiji - hence Harry and Meghan's nice visit to Fiji last fall).

The Queen is only Head of State in the CW countries called Commonwealth Realms: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Belize, Barbados, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, The Bahamas and Tuvalu. It is only in those places, I believe, that a GG represents her.

My guess is that the republican movements are most strong in places like Australia and Canada and least strong in places like the BVI.

For all the pretence about how "successful" Harry's and Meghan's tour was, it was a tiny shadow compared to the rapturous reception of Charles and Diana in 1982.

by Anonymousreply 304March 20, 2019 10:00 PM

Lady Amelia is more photogenic and has a more unique look than Lady Margarita who is pretty in the conventional sense. I think that's the main difference in beauty between the two.

by Anonymousreply 305March 20, 2019 11:38 PM

Evidence that Harry is dim? Are you serious, what other evidence do you need? Well-known history is being a shit student, needed bribes to get into school, didn't go to university and for a person of his stature to not do that should tell you a lot about intellectual deficits. He couldn't even deal with having a military career. Worse to me though is that Harry is not just that nice of a person, from all that's come out since Meghan came along, he's shown to the public who he really is. A unintelligent, petulant man-child who's lazy, jealous, and thinks his birthright royal status is all that's needed for celebrityhood.

by Anonymousreply 306March 20, 2019 11:43 PM

Someone was asking how it was known Harry was a dimwit. There was a cheating scandal when he was at school. A teacher did his project for him and was fired when discovered, but of course, Harry wasn't. The royal family poured God knows how much money into PR telling us what a superb military man Harry was. An extraordinary flying talent - he'd found his "thing". It wasn't books, but my God - isn't this BETTER? It is believed the BRF thought the military would keep Harry occupied at least until he was in his forties while it steadily put out stories of Harry's derring do alternating stories of Harry being one of the lads and a generous, unpretentious one, alternating with stories of how he chafed at not being permitted certain assignments because his royal status would put a bounty on his unit's collective heads. Etc. BUT, Harry had to take a test to earn the rank of major, and, rather than do so, he quit the military. Of course Grandma promptly awarded him the title of honorary major. That was one of the stupidest and most tone deaf things she's ever done.

Speaking of the queen - remember the story from the Diana and Fergie days? Someone related that at, I think one of the queen's sixtysomething birthday parties, Diana and Fergie each cornered her and yammered her ear off complaining about her sons. "But mama" etc. And the queen did nothing.

I think she's excellent at looking and behaving like a queen, and understanding how protocol is supposed to function. But if there's anything else to the job, including managing her messy family, she does nothing.

by Anonymousreply 308March 21, 2019 12:05 AM

R308 what do you expect her to do about her cheating sons? And its rather tasteless to ambush an older lady at her birthday party to chew her ear off.

William was caught with these too. We discussed this at the time, the BRF have their shoes handmade from venerable old craftsmen in The UK. They don’t but new ones, they repair the old ones because they’re so well made and expensive. William and Harry must not be on top of maintenance and don’t have a valet to look after their clothes unlike Charles.

R231 Those are some tight-ass jeans Chelsy's rocking in that vid.

If Harry had married her, no doubt we'd be ripping her to shreds.

by Anonymousreply 321March 21, 2019 2:03 AM

I can't disagree about the hot and hung, but there are so many similarities in their stories. Both rich, lost and aimless after losing mother, pampered, middling students, aimless career path, married difficult and possibly narcissistic women. But all accounts Carolyn treated JFK jr. much like Meghan treats Harry. Fawned over for being hunky eligible bachelors, but in reality weak and damaged men.

by Anonymousreply 322March 21, 2019 2:05 AM

Whatever JFK Jr had going in the looks department gets cancelled out by his seeking fame/ attention all the while begging press to stay away a la Princess Diana. JFK Jr was also a narcissist who craved attention and married an unstable woman. CB cheated on him with Baywatch actor Michael Bergin throughout the marriage and even prior to it. She also had a secret drug habit, prone to mood swings, and violence against him during fights.

When unstable, narcissist people find each other, it's very hard to stay away from each other. That was the case with JFK Jr/ CB and with Harry/ Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 323March 21, 2019 2:06 AM

Wasn't there a rumor Diana wanted to get together with JFK Jr after her divorce? Some fantasy about becoming his First Lady? (Take that, Charles!) And that she later cattily remarked that Carolyn wasn't all that great looking?

by Anonymousreply 324March 21, 2019 2:10 AM

Also meant to add that CB had some deep-seated issues with being deserted, which is one of the hallmark signs of Borderline Personality Disorder. Her marriage with JFK Jr. certainly played out like someone with other signs of BPD, the misplaced anger against partner out of proportion to situation, depression/ self-harm or substance abuse, among others.

by Anonymousreply 325March 21, 2019 2:11 AM

Can't imagine the horror show of a union had JFK Jr not died, and he divorced CB to get with Diana. He'd be trading in one BPD for another, and Diana would be stuck with a narcissist. Yikes!

by Anonymousreply 326March 21, 2019 2:14 AM

R326, maybe so, but it didn't work out too well for either one in any case!

by Anonymousreply 327March 21, 2019 2:33 AM

Middling student though he may have been (he failed the bar twice, passing on his third attempt), JFK Jr did attend university and earned a Juris Doctor degree. Harry meanwhile barely passed what we in the States would consider high school equivalency. Didn't even try college. He is more in line with that of a remedial student, tops.

by Anonymousreply 328March 21, 2019 3:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 329March 21, 2019 3:19 AM

R320, there is an old story that Charles has his valet put his toothpaste on his toothbrush for him. It's a tiny bit true. At one time Charles injured an arm and had to wear it in a sling for two or three weeks. He did have to have his valet do it for him until he healed and could use both his arms again.

by Anonymousreply 330March 21, 2019 3:39 AM

R328 A-levels are not like high school equivalency. GCSE's are about the same as US high school equivalency. A-levels are more like AP.

by Anonymousreply 331March 21, 2019 3:42 AM

A bit of a challenge trying to correlate the British with the American secondary education systems, but to use your A-Levels and GCSEs categories:

Prince Harry, who studied at Eton, gained 11 GCSE's and a B in Art and D in Geography in his A Levels. Harry also was notoriously plagued with rumors that he could barely pass most of his classes.
One of Harry's former teachers, Sarah Forsyth, has asserted that Harry was a "weak student" and that staff at Eton conspired to help him cheat on examinations.

Harry was hardly A-level material.

I stand by the assertion I made in R328.

by Anonymousreply 332March 21, 2019 4:08 AM

One disgruntled former teacher said she was asked to cheat for Harry on one A-level exam and that makes him a remedial student overall? I'd need more evidence but this is the DL so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

by Anonymousreply 333March 21, 2019 4:12 AM

Reading comprehension not your strong suit dear? It wasn't on the A-Levels this particular teacher is referring, It was the consistent pattern of cheating and entitlement to get Harry to pass his exams and therefore pass his classes. He got ONLY two A-Levels, with a "B" in art (Eton's version of shop class) and a "D" in geography which again is a "D."

Harry mainly accrued 11 GCSEs which as R331 so plainly stated is "about the same as US high school equivalency."

Were Harry an American, his proudest achievement would have been earning a GED.

If this is still lost on you R333 perhaps lay off DL for the interim and look into adult classes for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 334March 21, 2019 4:25 AM

Harry's art grade was infamously accomplished via cheating, which got the instructor who did his final for him fired. Harry's grade, of course, stood.

Good lord Diana did a number on her sons' I.Q. I believe the queen, while home schooled, showed plenty of aptitude in the various enterprises she undertook, Philip was a smart and accomplished student, and while Charles whinged his head off about attending Gordonstoun, there is no report that I recall that he struggled with the curriculum either there or in his later education. Both Zara and Peter also attended Gordonstoun, and thrived.

William struggled in art history at St. Andrews, and while it's easy to just roll your eyes at his little mini crisis about whether to stay or leave, at least he took his education seriously, and when redirected to geography, applied himself and did well. I mean, grading on a curve vis a vis Harry, his challenges prompted conversations both with the school and with his dad, and he took the advice he recieved.

Harry, OTOH, if he encounters something that requires the least effort, that isn't the slightest interesting or gratifying to him, appears to say fuck it, and feels entitled to it. Then everybody bends to work to get him through it. He is entitled.

I remember reading a piece that included an account of his relationship with Cressida Bonas. I am convinced that his only authentic relationship in his life was with Chelsy Davy, and that was possible party because they began so young, many of Harry's shortcomings which persist to this day were written off as wild youth. This piece couldn't come up with a single thing that bonded Cressida and Harry together except that Harry wanted a girlfriend. The piece quoted Harry's friends describing them both as very young for their ages, very spoiled, very entitled. Add in cheap for Harry. Considering that Cressida was artsy, and before AND after Harry dated the same much better looking guy (also named Harry), I suspect she saw Harry as a two year investment to raise her name recognition and that was it. She endured it. After two years, she was outta there. A friend's wedding gave her the excuse. She was meant to sit at the head table with Harry, supposedly shrunk from the exposure, and bailed. I think she figured that after two years her name was out there and she'd be a publicity value add to casting directors, and time's awasting.

by Anonymousreply 335March 21, 2019 4:43 AM

I managed all the reading for my PhD so I think I'm OK with my reading comprehension R334.

I am also the poster at R331. That post was about A-levels not being the same as high school equivalency. GCSE isn't high school equivalency either since it's a national standardized subject test and that isn't something American schools require for all students across the country. GCSE's are done at the end of high school and A-levels are pre university so that's a closer comparison.

Knowing Harry's grades in his 11 GCSE's would give more accurate information. There's a difference between saying someone got 1100 or 1550 on their SATs.

I'm not willing to say Harry is remedial level student overall based on the evidence that he cheated on one exam.

by Anonymousreply 336March 21, 2019 4:45 AM

Of course I shall be attending the Christening.

Someone has to manage it, and see that all those amateurs behave with a bit of decorum. The Queen has better things to focus on and Mother can't be seen to pick.

Remedial student is one who flunks or who would have flunked courses without cheating. Seems to fit Harry to a tee. Oh and JFK Jr was not scholar despite attending good universities, he likely got in due to same mechanisms e.g. bribery and as favors that so many rich kids had available to them. JFK Jr flunked 11th grade and in fact had to repeat it. But he managed to get into Brown.....hmmmm. Same thing as Harry getting help just to graduate without accomplishments.

by Anonymousreply 351March 21, 2019 9:09 AM

Why? That's kind of pathetic, honestly.

by Anonymousreply 352March 21, 2019 9:15 AM

r351 You're not remembering accurately. Camilla got it much worse than almost anyone else. Kate also got quite a bit of vitriol directed her way and was stalked (going through bins, calling her private number etc) by the paps the entire time she was dating William. Meagain just has people saying mean things about her on the internet.

by Anonymousreply 353March 21, 2019 9:53 AM

Diana had a lot of negative press as well.

by Anonymousreply 354March 21, 2019 9:57 AM

R351, it’s the advent of social media and depends on where you go online. There are plenty of sites and forums where Meghan is worshipped. People are more critical of her here. And I’m sure there are some sites where the hatred is scary.

by Anonymousreply 355March 21, 2019 10:59 AM

She's worshipped at Celebitchy, which is a really big gossip site.

by Anonymousreply 356March 21, 2019 11:03 AM

Criticism of Meghan is driven by middle class woman who believe their criticisms signal their own sophistication-- understanding of human nature, the "true" worth of the monarchy and fashion, and garden-variety anglophilia. These threads demonstrate that, ad naseum.

With Camilla and Diana, the press drove the narrative. Social media has made everyone an expert and given everyone a voice, so harder to see exactly what the press' role is today.

That sounds like a truism, but it's not. The press' influence is harder to gauge not because social media is more pervasive, but because the fraus believe they cannot be manipulated by the press or by PR itself.

by Anonymousreply 357March 21, 2019 11:12 AM

You have it backwards. Middle class women adore her because they are too dumb to see her grifting. They think she's a great success story and admire her for it. American Princess!

by Anonymousreply 358March 21, 2019 11:16 AM

I know why I don't like her: I feel affronted that she would inflict her pretentious pronouncements and inauthentic mannerisms on me and think I am stupid enough to fall for it. And as a British taxpayer, I don't want to contribute to her support.

by Anonymousreply 359March 21, 2019 11:20 AM

R358 Exactly. It's pretty clear some women in the states are living vicariously through her because on paper it sounds like a fairy tale. It's a lot like the reaction some Australians had to Frederik the crown prince of Denmark marrying Mary Donaldson who used to be just an ordinary Australian woman.

In the conversations I've had I haven't heard anyone in the commonwealth say good things about Meghan, the optics of the whole thing don't look good because it felt so rushed while the public had years to get used to Kate. It's an unfair comparison but people can't help but compare.

by Anonymousreply 360March 21, 2019 12:31 PM

Prince Harry choose Meghan. They will be having a royal baby anyday now.You lot need to move on....Meghan will be on your tax dollars forever. She won.Get over it.Jeez.

An its funny how the Blackamoor trolls now consider Prince Harry stupid, but before his nuptials thought he was a ginger hottie.Could it be he didn't choose YOU....is that why you all are really mad.

by Anonymousreply 361March 21, 2019 12:47 PM

Accusing MM of grifting misses the point. THEY’RE ALL GRIFTERS. They have loads of money, not of it earned by working. They’ve convinced the public that they’re needed and perform an essential duty. The public, in turn, supports them by providing them a lavish lifestyle. I don’t have anything personal against any member of the RF, I’m sure they’re all nice people, but let’s not pretend that what they do is worth the incredible lifestyle of palaces, vacations, and money they receive in return.

by Anonymousreply 362March 21, 2019 1:07 PM

^ and just to elaborate on a point, I’m talking about the money from the sovereign grant. It inevitably goes back to the same refrain; racists!, you're just jealous, bbbbbbuuuuutttt Kate!!! (rinse, lather, repeat) Predictable. HazBean aren't gaining admirers, increasingly people are seeing their shit and refuse to by played by their nonsense. But the zeal of their admirers is fanaticism of Trump's base where their idol can do no wrong and these sycos will twist themselves into painting everyone else as haters rather than realize they were the ones most duped.

R357 Do you have contact with people outside of what you read on social media, do you work or go outside? Because if you did you'd know that it's SJW types, middle-aged women, and basic bitches in their 20s who are susceptible to social media celeb narrative who are Meghan's biggest fans. I work in healthcare, come across a large cross section of people from welfare recipients to rich patients from SF/ Peninsula, and Marin County. I also work with the biggest more basic fraus who went apeshit over the wedding and subsequent Meghan appearances and merching. All basic or SJW types with a swathe of middle-aged women.

by Anonymousreply 367March 21, 2019 2:19 PM

Lots of interesting posts over the last day or so (except for the scatalogical ones which are never interesting) even if they don't always agree. I get no sense that the British public is obsessed with Meghan or the other royals, except when the media give them an opportunity to do so and it must be admitted that most of those on blogs, including this one, are self-selected groups.

That said, in my view there are grains of truth scattered across the posts and that underlie Meghan's current terrible press coverage. She wasn't bright enough to understand what it is about the monarchy that is valuable to Britain, a good dea of which is its very stodginess and tradition and its intertwining with the people's history; her idea that it needed to be FIXED and SHE was the one to FIX it, showed a lack of broad historical understanding and a vast overestimation of what power accrued to her as the wife of the sixth in line.

In other behaviours she evidenced that I won't go into again (except to reiterate the first nail in her PR casket, getting Harry to threaten the British press), she again showed she lacked a grasp of where she was and who she now was. She thought she could sculpt a Duchess of Sussex persona the way she could her TiG blog. Her conclusions were wrong, her estimation of her power was wrong, and Harry, will suffer for it.

I think the thing about the royals that is most striking is that most of them are fairly mediocre folk, the only extraordinary thing about most of them is the circumstances of their birth and that creates a reality disconnect not only in the public psyche, but the royals' own pysche.

Harry and Meghan are both mediocre people. Take away Harry's royal birth and wealth and you have a career soldier who probably wouldn't have made it past sergeant or at best middle management in business. He wouldn't have had the remotest shot as barrister, doctor, university teacher, high-powered CEO, nothi ng. Meghan got one decent acting job in 35 years and her first husband got her that. They're both coasting on a shallow veneer of specialness that neither really possesses - except for one's circumstance of birth and one's great luck in snagging the other in the matrimonial sweepstakes. And both seem incapable of learning from their initial mistakes - which, by the way, was a notable trait of Diana's, who went to her grave convinced that her failed marriage had nothing to do with any behaviour of hers.

Meghan should have taken warnings from the tiara fiasco, the shabby Windsor wedding, the offer of nothing but Frogmore Cottage with no base in London (except now a couple of rooms in BP like the other minor royals have), the lack of invitation up to Balmoral last summer, the ascendancy of the Cambridges - and should have realised that following that up with demands for a separate Sussex "court" independent of the rest of the BRF so she and Harry could set up a "brand" on the backs of the taxpayers would finish her off in the eyes of the people in the BRF who really matter. She didn't.

The family will go on with the pleasant facade but Meghan has already created her slot as the next generation's disliked Pss. Michael.

i note that the DM has an article up, an interview with one of Meghan's "Suits" co-stars, who has nothing but nice things to say about her. And right next to that is the piece on Meghan spending 650,000 on maternity wear.

This will be the way things go until the day Meghan and Harry get tired of it and leave, or Meghan leaves.

R345 And you knew about Kate's supposed panic attacks how? Panic attacks are horrible for sufferers, I've diagnosed and treated many people with it, usually they have generalized anxiety too which makes them unable to function in daily lives, meaning they have to be off for work extended amount of time. If Kate truly does have panic disorder then she's hiding it REALLY well or she's the first person to be able to function on that high level, with people scrutinizing her every move.

by Anonymousreply 382March 21, 2019 3:18 PM

For visits to warmer climates, she has obviously found a style of clothes that are comfortable, attractive, respectable and lovely.

Well done.

The long tunic over the wide leg trousers work to not only cover any problems with her figure, but most likely make her travel and appearances, climbing in and out of vehicles, etc., much easier.

Eugenie's dress is too short, on a second look. It's very pretty and feminine and appropriate for the occasion, but she hasn't got the knees or the length of leg for it - it needed to be knee length. Just the same, she looks charming and sweet and very Windsor suddenly. Interesting that Yuge got a "patronage" at all. Since when does the tenth in line get a patronage? Is the BRF bumping up the now increasingly affectionately regarded, respectably married, and prettier York blood princess for a reason?

Theory: the BRF have finally realised that they have let the Sussex grifter suck too much air out of the room, and they need to populate the landscape with more of their "own" "real" royals. Bea and her eurotrash scoundrel won't do at all - but Eugenie after that lovely wedding, nearly spoilt by Mean Girl Meghan's Maternity Coat trick, might be just the thing.

Hmmm.

by Anonymousreply 392March 21, 2019 4:34 PM

For those too lazy or disinterested to pursue and translate the BILD article on the alleged existence of a Meghan Markle sex tape:

The interviewee claims to be a "porm manager" - that is, someone who specialises in making inconvenient sex tapes disappeare. He claims to have been contactd by a woman in Canada who had a sex tape of some woman giving oral sex to a man; she sent the tape over her phone, he didn't initially recognise the woman, but . . .

"Then the woman burst the bomb! ;She said the name of the woman on the video was Meghan and that they were about to marry a prince in England.' The anonymous caller then apparently sent the video sheet on her cell phone.

While the moderators expressed their doubts, Blatt said, "I know what I saw and I'm very sure that the woman in the video was Meghan."

Unfortunately, you will never know if this story really happened like that. 'I've seen it, but it does not exist anymore, I do not have it on my phone anymore. The woman in Canada has it.""

So if you like believing that somewhere out there is the Axe Ready To Fall On Meghan'a Head that some of you have insisted exists, the unnamed woman in Canada has it.

I don't believe it for a moment, this is BILD's brand of journalism: You can't prove what we're saying is untrue or true and all we're doing is reporting what someone told us, so go fuck youself."

If the DM knew where that woman was, they'd have already paid her enough for it to set her up for life.

Prince Andrew is not a nice man, but he obviously loves his daughters. If he has been urging the Queen and Charles to give them more to do and this is the result - I am glad to see it.

Given the obvious disinterest in supporting the Royal Family shown by Sparkle, seeing the Queen's granddaughters more active in "The Firm" makes sense.

I want kate to get a big patronage, something that meghan feels she's entitled to or one of her pet causes. Piss of Oprah, Beyonce, the Clooneys and kaiser and lainey.

For me the perfect situation would be that meghan and Harry get ZERO attention, almost like a complete ban. If they want to stick it to meghan, don't give her any press. Her and Harry love it. Even the nasty stuff because they're simply being more talked about and get the attention she never got while in Hollywood. She becomes a media figure with scrutiny not since since Diana and that's how she and Harry want it. He's thinking look my wife has more interest in her like my mum rather than Kate and she can associate herself with Diana like that.

The third time JFK Jr. took the bar I understand it was in private in a room at Robert J. Morgenthau's office. I doubt the usual proctor procedure was followed. And then he promptly began work at the AG's office - completely unqualified based on his law school record or his complete lack of accomplishments. If you're not JFK Jr. it is an extremely competitive place to be hired even if you're the actual best and brightest.

by Anonymousreply 405March 21, 2019 5:43 PM

The sex tape is barking up the wrong tree. IMO that's just the old school way of "exposing" a woman, but today it wouldn't fly. She was an actress. Yes, porn is not a good look for a royal, but to try and get her that way is not the route. Harry himself is as debauched as it gets. Who knows what videos the BRF has squashed of HIM. Even trying to expose her as having been paid to have sex on camera isn't a good look for a BRF that has historically been full of degenerates, Harry not least among them.

How she's behaving in the BRF now is what should get her the boot, but I'm with the growing number of people who hope things spin in reverse and she becomes the mechanism to have them finally give HARRY the boot.

by Anonymousreply 406March 21, 2019 5:47 PM
And then he promptly began work at the AG's office - completely unqualified based on his law school record or his complete lack of accomplishments.

Ever look at the jobs that the Kennedy cousins (and there are a LOT of them) just walked into - qualifications or not.

Not to mention all the others.

by Anonymousreply 407March 21, 2019 5:56 PM

R402 You've been in the royal trenches too long.

Eugenie has a job based on her royal connections. Beatrice is VP of Partnerships and Strategy at Afiniti. That is also a job from royal connections. She doesn't actually do anything. From the look of things, Jack seems to be transitioning out of the tequila business and into the touring of hospitals and unveiling of plaques business. The attendance of the royal family at these engagements is paid for by British taxpayers out of the Sovereign Grant. They don't show up out of the goodness of their hearts. I wouldn't be surprised if they claim the clothing worn at these events as business expenses. That's the basis on which some people are critical of Meghan's wardrobe choices. I'm of the view that one of the other working royals ie Sophie, Edward, Anne, Kate, William who are all currently in the UK would have been perfectly fine for unveiling the plaque. Andrew could have done it on his own. The addition of Eugenie and Jack is a step in the wrong direction. The list of working royals needs to streamline rather than expand.

My opinion may not be one you share but, it's certainly not illiterate.

by Anonymousreply 408March 21, 2019 5:58 PM

R407 the Kennedys are the worst (I posted the JFK Jr. stuff). Also a whole lot of them are thieves. The RFK Jrs. were, mostly, although Teddy's girls were not exempt. They were infamous around Hyannis. They'd put their boats in anyone's empty slip. They'd walk out of rentals with whatever belonged to the property that they wanted (for example, once a bunch of them walked off a charter boat with slickers on their backs that belonged to the boat). The entitlement is beyond belief.

Wasn't Christopher an actor though?

by Anonymousreply 409March 21, 2019 5:59 PM

R468, take away Harry's royal birth and you probably have a whiny loser who couldn't cut it in the military, had to join the army as a grunt (or whatever Brit equivalent), not the helicopter group, was a slacker there and a druggie and given the choice to either leave or get the boot. Now he's sleeping on his mum's cut in the basement, doing the occasional odd job in town but never holding on to actual work because he's unreliable. His driver's license has been suspended and he's been arrested a bunch of times for drunk and disorderly. His old high school squad has moved on without him.

I think Harry would have to shape up to achieve mediocre.

by Anonymousreply 410March 21, 2019 6:04 PM

I don't think streamlining the monarchy is that good an idea. When it's lean and mean, people are going to scrutinize the individuals too closely for star power, presence, that "royal" feeling, and it's going to come up short. You need enough royalties to sell the pageantry. Those coaches headed to trouping need to be filled, ditto going to Ascot, and the balcony looked pitiful that time it was HM, PP, PC, Camilla, Kate, Will and Harry.

by Anonymousreply 411March 21, 2019 6:06 PM

I love this R368:

"She thought she could sculpt a Duchess of Sussex persona the way she could her TiG blog. Her conclusions were wrong, her estimation of her power was wrong, and Harry, will suffer for it."

Harry is responsible for it. He's been mucking about with celebrities for years, wanting to be one. I think he essentially perceived celebrity as a world full of entitlements and money and no responsibility. I think Meghan talked a big game, and Harry is too stupid to clock her for what she obviously is, and too self-deluded. She basically told him the TWO of them could mold their royal personas a la her Tig blog, "I've done it before, Harry!" and then leverage that celebrity into power over the BRF, the media, and I guess, extract big bucks from the firm? Or else get paid big bucks to go all over the world wearing things, walking in and out of things, attending things, etc.

by Anonymousreply 415March 21, 2019 6:33 PM

R410 Harry is well regarded as a soldier. He is a terrible royal but by all accounts, the army was the making of him.

He joined as cadet at Sandhurst and rose through the ranks at the appropriate pace. He became a helicopter pilot at the same time any other recruit would have. Royalty aside, he comes from a family of men who have served in the armed forces and showed aptitude for it. As bad as he looks now, Randy Andy was a Commander and flew in the Falkland Wars. If Harry were not royal, he's still be from a military family and his career path would not be considered unusual. The drinking and drugs would also not be noteworthy if not for his royal connection. "Soldier parties and has casual hookups in Vegas" is not newsworthy or unusual for a soldier, of any nationality .

Harry's not a scholar or a gentleman, but he's not a ne'er do well either.

Hey R361 and R402 - if you’re going to accuse other people of being illiterate you need to get your own house in order (although it does make it entertaining to see when you reply to yourself):

1. Learn the difference between “an” and “and” 2. “I” is always capitalised when referring to oneself 3. There’s always a space after a period before commencing a new sentence

Nobody said that trolling is easy, but keep at it, you’ll master the basics eventually!

by Anonymousreply 420March 21, 2019 7:23 PM

Don’t make stuff up, R402 - Andrew wouldn’t know an app if it bit him on the arse.

You’re confusing him with his distant cousin the Marquess of Milford Haven who did sell an energy comparison site for £100 million about ten years ago. Pre “app” days, though, I suspect.

by Anonymousreply 421March 21, 2019 7:28 PM
An its funny how the Blackamoor trolls now consider Prince Harry stupid, but before his nuptials thought he was a ginger hottie

Why do you think being "stupid" and "a ginger hottie" are mutually exclusive? People tend to diminish the character defects and shortcomings of others if they're generally likeable, attractive, or have a tragic background. It's uncomfortable to say publicly or even to acknowledge to oneself that someone is a dullard under these circumstances. Certainly, nobody ever claimed he had much of an intellect.

I do recall the days here on DL when he was beloved, but it started to diminish around the time of the Las Vegas shenanigans. That's when posters started commenting on his bad judgment noting that his wan academic achievements and the cheating suggest a certain level of dimness and imperceptiveness. And his choice of bride sure as hell reinforces this assessment. His seemingly newfound arrogance not backed by "the goods" is also a big turnoff. Or maybe the arrogance and entitlement was always there and DL did not see it because he was "a ginger hottie." His looks are in rapid decline (never good if you are the subject of a Datalounge thread) and he is accruing a roster of questionable judgment and behavior.

So, really, it's no shock or a stretch of the imagination to understand how perceptions of the prince have shifted from hottie to intellectually challenged nottie.

by Anonymousreply 428March 21, 2019 8:53 PM

R428 I concur wholeheartedly with what you wrote. Also I would like to add that for some people like myself, we consider lack of intellect as major turn off. Once dated a guy, 6'2" dark hair, athletic, hot both in face and body. But he was unfortunately not gifted in the brains department, and worse he didn't have any intellectual curiosity. Even the act of going to a book store with him (or dragging him there) was painful. Finally had to dump his ass.

Never found Harry to be hot in any way, to me he'd always looked like an average bloke. It was his status and money that made him hot, take away all of those things he's just another ginger bloke who's also dim.

by Anonymousreply 429March 21, 2019 9:23 PM

I think that Meghan's choice of a partner who is not her equal in the brains dept. speaks much to her character and motives. It's not as though she is a great intellect herself, but she's far "book" smarter than Harry and has a caginess and "street" smarts that he lacks having grown up in a gilded environment.

I know that this is sexist, but it's far more societally acceptable for a man to marry an intellectually inferior woman than it is the other way around. I've heard a couple of men in my own family saying that a man is better off finding a woman without brains. I wasn't sure if they were joking, but it was offensive in all its implications: they're easier to dominate and manipulate. The good, little obedient wife. Reverse the situation and the male partner is pussy whipped. However wrong, one is more socially acceptable than the other.

A grifting, manipulative person can smell someone like Harry an ocean away. Obviously, the benefits she can reap from this outweigh the discomfort of living with someone who is hard to have a conversation with or shares no similar interests besides their brand. I think the majority of "normal" people are like R429 who find an unequal relationship uncomfortable. But Meghan's striving nature and NPD make her impervious to feeling such discomfort. You can't manufacture empathy or real feelings, especially if the might get in the way of your objectives.

by Anonymousreply 430March 21, 2019 9:56 PM
Admitting you liked Prince Harry because he is wealthy makes you no better then what you claim Meghan Markle is.Do you all realize that?

No! We are different. We understand England and we would never disrespect her royal majesty the way that Bitch MegBean. Go back to Celebitchy! We are the experts here.

by Anonymousreply 434March 21, 2019 11:02 PM

R367, without anecdotes of my own, your list of the demographic that worships Meg seems right to me, just based on my experience with intense stans.

I have different theories about this duo; none of them premised on it being a love match. Even back when I thought "Good for them!" I knew it wasn't a love match. Initially I thought they both did well for themselves. Meghan for managing a perfect transition out of a career she's was aging out of, comfy with the cameras, maybe even eager for them, had shown an aptitude for the social justice and "humanitarian" sphere, old enough and smart enough to know how to reformat that and herself into a royal role. She'd focus on that and not on her husband, whom she couldn't possibly love (especially not if she were as smart as people said). She could pour all of the energy the acting business hadn't wanted from her into this new enterprise.

For Harry, he wasn't going to find true love, but he found a woman well-suited to the job, with an organizational aptitude who could sort things out for him , earn him points because she was biracial. I thought he was begging the question with this letter - wanting to seem all rebellious and stuff when I suspected the royal family would be perfectly happy with just about anybody his ragged useless ass dragged in the door.

I also suspected that he's at least bi, so that put a conventional marriage love/match out of reach at least for him, as a British royal, and also seemed to call for a marriage that had some arrangement or joint goals facets to it, again, something to which Ms. Markle seemed well-suited and eager to take on.

What I was not expecting was how unbelievably tacky and trashy they'd both be, confusing it apparently with boldness and modernity, how fucking thirsty, how petty (look at that anniversary of Charles' installation - Harry himself is creeping along in the background hoping to be swept in to the table for some of that camera time. The courtiers had to block both of the). How competitive. How childish and sloppy. How petty. How apparently a win for someone else is their loss. That they're both control freaks and can't stand to leave anything alone.

I will give old shark eyes Meghan some credit - she has her schtick, and she sticks to it. She shows up, she poses, she walks funny, she has her facial expressions. There's a real consistency. Even her shoes are consistent. Harry, OTOH, acts like a moody bitch. Half the time signaling to his stans "Help me, I'm miserable." (or so they imagine) and the rest of the time he's either enabling the shit out of her or doing the same thing she's doing, while being shifty. At least she's full on, she's not shifty.

by Anonymousreply 435March 22, 2019 12:00 AM

I do not admire that old hag, called the Queen of England or any of offspring. She can hell along with the rest of the lot.

by Anonymousreply 436March 22, 2019 12:06 AM

I think Harry being beloved was simply default. William was being all responsible, pro-creating, and he also hates the press, so they got nothing. Harry played to the media (while pretending to also hate it), he cultivated that Peck's bad boy thing, the BRF's PR pushed his military persona. Harry had a niche, and he threw himself in there. Right now he comes across like a guy whose charm has worn thin.

I NEVER EVER thought he was hot. The only time I "got" what some others went on about was at William's wedding and he looked built enough in his uniform to compensate for his unfortunate face, but then I was told the silhouette was MOSTLY uniform and not really Harry. I think the US media, morning shows, entertainment media etc. found him useful and pretended women were mad for him but he was the ugly brother all his life and growing up didn't change that. He was a "make do" kind of hearthrob. Does nobody remember what he looked like as a freaking kid? His eyes are as close together as Charles' and that is NEVER attractive. Also tiny, beady, and mean, like Scott Farkas's (that's for A Christmas Story fans). Sharp, pointy little elphin nose. No lips to speak of (at least William has lips!) and scrabbly teeth. Yeah, Will has horse teeth, but Harry has yellow little nubbins.

by Anonymousreply 437March 22, 2019 12:07 AM

R335, I thought the story was that she dumped him when he refused to pay for her ticket to the wedding, it was not about seating.

What do you mean by 'sins of their father POV?' That the girls are judged poorly due to Andrew skeeviness and Fergie, well, being Fergie? I see parallels between the Snowdens and the Yorks in that they were loose cannons in their respective generations. Andrew was known as boorish with women and spent a lot of time away from Sarah due to naval duties. Sarah sought solace elsewhere and was caught in the toe-sucking incident. (at least Margaret had Mustique, an island where paps were banned) But they do seem like better parents than the Snowdens and seemed to take a more active role in their daughters' lives. Both generations' kids seem to have turned out well.

by Anonymousreply 440March 22, 2019 12:45 AM

LOL R437 yes Scott Farkus does resemble Harry quite a bit or vice versa, both in childhood and as adult. Close-set eyes are never attractive, I think in Harry's case his light coloring took the edges off having beady, close-set eyes, but they're still noticeably prominent features. It's partly why William was always considered the more attractive brother. Aside from status and money, Harry only became "hot" when William went bald and he still had hair. Now he's as bald as William or going to be soon, and the lack of hair accentuates his less than average face.

by Anonymousreply 441March 22, 2019 12:52 AM

R430 You're right it's how most straight men think even if they don't say it out loud. This is why women often play dumb while dating. Those men often think they are the smarter one in the relationship but are just unaware. Hell even if the woman isn't playing dumb the man will often still think he's the smarter one, Dunning Kruger in action. Who knows how Harry and Meghans relationship works but don't be surprised if Meghan tries to make Harry feel like he is smart.

by Anonymousreply 442March 22, 2019 12:53 AM

R440, I meant that the York sisters seem to have to defend their parents, which doesn't seem fair. In Andrew's case, he's been tainted by his association with Jeffrey Epstein. In Sarah's case, her various shady money-making ventures. I think the two princesses certainly deserve criticism for their constant vacations and often, bizarre fashion sense. Their daughters have no involvement in those issues, so I try to remember that they were raised by loving, attentive parents.

by Anonymousreply 443March 22, 2019 1:00 AM

R438, I think the plane ticket was prior to the seating "crisis" and was just offered as a symptom of how mutually spoiled they both were and ultimately immature.

Cressida did two years and at the first 'crisis' she bailed. Then it's back with her previous (and better looking) boyfriend, and leveraging her name recognition in her chosen profession.

I was over on Lipstick Alley in the "Unpopular opinions - Meghan Markle" thread where she's being taken apart.

One interesting digression came from someone who had aristo friends in the U.K. She was invited by her best friend for a week in the ancestral home still owned by the friend's grandpa. The butler unpacked the suitcases. "I can do it myself." is considered "new". In the country she participated in "stalking" which she had not done before. She said everything was subtext, and it was all very tense. She didn't think it was due to her being an outsider, but just how things were. Her conclusion was it was much better to marry a rich civilian than marry into the English nobility. A guy (or woman) with lots of money who is a private citizen who is not bound to any sort of cultural tradition (some of which are unbearable)).

by Anonymousreply 446March 22, 2019 1:13 AM

R436 I agree with you. Everyone sees QEII as a feeble, little old lady, all sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s the narrative that’s been pushed by her PR since Diana’s death. Before that, she was an ice cold, stubborn, rigid witch. I still think she is. She does nothing to control her family of spongers and is incapable of relating to her subjects. I find her arrogant beyond belief. When she went to visit the Manchester bombing victims, I noticed how she refused to touch any of the people in the hospital, not even grasp the hand of a child in a hospital bed. What, can’t touch the riff raff?

The fact that she refuses to step down (because of her “vow”—well no one thought she’d live this long!) further showcases her selfishness, especially since so many of her contemporaries have stepped aside for the next generation (Spain, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium).
Prince Andrews net worth is 75 million dollars according to Forbes in January. Most of is income from his tech investments and real estate

I wonder how he got the initial capital to invest. It had to be a decent amount to begin with. When he and Fergei were married, she said that many expected her to dress as well as Diana, but the Yorks didn't have the same resources. It might have just been talk to come off like a Navy wife or extract more cash. Was it from a supposed inheritance from Queen Mum? Or his dealings with Gulf Arabs or guys like the one who bought Sunninghill at twice its value? His former girlfriend, Amanda Staveley, is some sort of financial type with deep ties to the region. I suspect she had something to do with funneling money to Andrew from different sources discretely, unlike Fergie.

by Anonymousreply 448March 22, 2019 1:38 AM

R447. Well put. Agree with all except the "can't control her family". You're right, she can't. But that fucked up bunch would require a militant dictator to get them in line. But, yes, we have all been fed this PR for so long about this nice old stable lady who has been throughocmuch history crap. In the end, she simply is not a person -- she is a "thing", a statue, a totem. This, zero ability to relate to humans. And, she frankly doesn't think she ever needs to. I'm sure I will be crucified now. Fuck it.

by Anonymousreply 449March 22, 2019 1:38 AM

Anne is top notch. She’d make an excellent sovereign.

by Anonymousreply 450March 22, 2019 1:43 AM

R448. I live and work in Palo Alto. Andrew was given founders shares and some penny warrants in a number of start ups circa 1996 until about 2005, when he took a keen but quiet interest in Silicon Valley. He toyed with helping the U.K. Establish a "Silicon Valley" of its own. He made a number of trips out here. Met w Stanford Buz people privately. He got lucky with a few. The buzz back then was what are a few founders shares if it opens up (what was then) the emerging U.K. Market.

by Anonymousreply 451March 22, 2019 1:44 AM

R448, but why is that bunch fucked up? Genes? Or bad parenting?

HM is too lenient. I just think she's not engaged. She doesn't have the staying power. All of her energy goes towards her role - the pageantry part, IMO, and the family gets what is leftoever.

by Anonymousreply 452March 22, 2019 1:47 AM

R452, the story goes that Prince Philip is/was the absolute ruler of the family, while HM tended to her official duties. In reality I think that’s a load of crap. Philip is very no nonsense, yet somehow he raised some kids that don’t have a lot of character. Except for Anne, but even she couldn’t keep a marriage together.

by Anonymousreply 453March 22, 2019 1:51 AM

R453, I would say only Andrew doesn’t have character. The rest, however, are mediocrities.

by Anonymousreply 454March 22, 2019 1:54 AM

I wouldn't sell Andrew short. Compared to Harry, Andrew is an absolute paragon. Andrew became a dad at 28 and there is no question he loves his children. His relationship with Fergie is weird and possibly corrupt but at least he is loyal and he certainly takes care of her.

Harry is clearly not ready to be a father at 34. Or whatever age he is. He's self-centered. He lacks empathy. People project all kinds of wonderful virtues onto him because he loves to mug with children and waggle his finger at them. But on his recent tours with Meghan I have seen that he will do that no matter what energy is coming back to him from the kid. He's one note. Everybody else, in his mind, including kids, are just a foil to him.

by Anonymousreply 455March 22, 2019 1:57 AM

I wouldn't blame Anne for not keeping her marriage together. Mark Phillips had a child with another woman years before they divorced. He traveled a lot for his career so it's likely there were many more.

by Anonymousreply 456March 22, 2019 2:00 AM

I don’t care how you stack up Harry vs. Andrew—Harry didn’t have sex with underage girls. He wins by default.

by Anonymousreply 457March 22, 2019 2:00 AM

R457. I am NOT defending Andrew but just asking because I truly don't know..... have any young female victims named Andrew himself as one of the abusers?

by Anonymousreply 458March 22, 2019 2:12 AM

Maybe hold that thought R457. At 34 the public didn't know much of Andrew's less than savory proclivities. When Harry is 59/60 they may both be cursed on equal footing in the depraved dept.

Listen, give it another 25 years and we'll see what perversions/degradations come to light with Harry. That boy ain't right in the head either and I suspect the palace has covered up a shitload of degenerate info on the dim ginge. He has 20-25 years to further go off the deep end.

by Anonymousreply 461March 22, 2019 2:31 AM

Damnnnn. R460. Thx. Apologies for being lazy. I have never followed andrew much at all. Or actually, never. Unfortunately, that mob family in BP will never let that young woman testify. Or, she will end up dead in an underpass. I actually just watched a YouTube BBC interview of Andrew done about a year ago. I have never heard him speak. He makes Charles and all of the others look downright humble. What a perfect asshole he is. Glaringly dismissive. Worse than rude -- just mean for the sake of being mean.

by Anonymousreply 462March 22, 2019 2:35 AM

R423 Yeah, some study War History, whatever the fuck that is.

by Anonymousreply 463March 22, 2019 2:35 AM

In this country we’re not condemned for perversions we may commit, no matter what you believe. Saying he might commit them in the future is such a cop out.

by Anonymousreply 464March 22, 2019 2:37 AM

It is not a cop out. I didn't indict him beyond stating simply to "hold that thought." History will write itself and maybe Andrew will be the greater evil, but Harry shows no indication of slowing a growing momentum in a take no prisoners FUBAR.

by Anonymousreply 465March 22, 2019 2:43 AM
I wouldn't sell Andrew short. Compared to Harry, Andrew is an absolute paragon. Andrew became a dad at 28 and there is no question he loves his children. His relationship with Fergie is weird and possibly corrupt but at least he is loyal and he certainly takes care of her

We've already been over this with them. The only reason they are still together (living together) is because Andrew has been selling access to himself and his mother and he used Fergie as the go between to set up the meetings and collect the money. Andrew has been selling access to Buckingham Palace and I'm sure all the rest to rich people. It's like a Royal Airbnb he's got going. Fergie sets it up and collects the money. he certainly can't take the risk of getting caught doing any of that. The both of them are grifters

Andrew and Fergie are parasites living off of each other. And after that pervert epstein got caught and arrested, Andrew arranged to have the paparazzi take a picture of them together in NYC. In the royal family, that means they fully support that person

After Andrew Morton's book came out (with Diana's full cooperation), she arranged to be photographed on the front steps of her friend's home, hugging her friend (while having the palace deny she was a source). That friend just so happened to have spoken to Andrew Morton and agreed to let him name her in the book as a source. Charles has done the same thing when he had friends of his go on tv and lie that Diana was mentally ill and completely making up things and fantasizing that charles was having an affair with camilla parker bowles. When their friends speak out in the media for members of the royal family, they repay the debt by letting the world know that they support them

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 466March 22, 2019 3:27 AM

And here's the story on Andrew calling the paps and having his picture taken with the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein who had just been released from prison. He was poison at that time and forced to register as a sex offender, but Andrew who is hardly ever seen out and about, walking around anywhere, was only too happy to be photographed with epstein
Those reported encounters between Epstein and Andrew, some of which appear to be corroborated by flight logs for Epstein’s private planes, which have been reviewed by the Guardian, stretch back more than a decade. They include parties at Windsor Castle and Sandringham, the Queen’s Norfolk estate, an exclusive dinner in St Tropez and a holiday in Thailand when Andrew was pictured on a yacht surrounded by topless women. Indeed, the Palace has never offered a public explanation for Andrew’s most controversial meeting with Epstein, which occurred in New York in 2011. That was two years after Epstein had been released from prison. He was, by then, a registered sex offender, and though some celebrities were still willing to be seen with him, he’d been abandoned by many of the more influential figures he previously called his friends. Andrew’s face-to-face meeting with Epstein might have remained secret had the pair not decided to go for a stroll in Central Park, where they were photographed by a tabloid newspaper

by Anonymousreply 471March 22, 2019 6:30 AM

I agree with the well-thought out post above that all the royals are grifters. We allow it, just as we allow a pet dog or cat to be destructive. It's only when the pet destroys something really valuable or we start to think it doesn't compensate with affection or appeal that we start to reconsider.... But there must be some things of real value that the BRF have contributed, apart from maintaining historical tradition. People who've been helped by the Prince's Trust? The king's speech on the wireless during WW2? The queen is known to be frugal - turning off lights, lots of other things. She dresses well, but not in an enviable style, especially when she is going about her life. So she gets a pass. Charles is known to have 100 servants in his employ, but again, he doesn't exude wealth. He will wear a 30 year old suit. Anne is famous for 'recycling' 30 year old outfits. Edward lives in a huge mansion but only in a few rooms due to heating costs. So it seems that it is only Andrew and the younger royals who are a thorn in the side of the British public.

by Anonymousreply 472March 22, 2019 7:24 AM

The purpose of the British Royal Family is procreation; its prime duty is to produce at least one heir to the throne. Each heir has to provide a child that will guarantee the survival of a monarchy that began with Athelstan, the first king of all-England in 926.

by Anonymousreply 473March 22, 2019 7:44 AM

Well you can always get a French or German noble to come over and be king, can‘t you?

by Anonymousreply 474March 22, 2019 8:21 AM

Athelstan - there’s a name that’s due for a comeback.

by Anonymousreply 475March 22, 2019 10:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 476March 22, 2019 10:49 AM

The queen not being touchy feely is not a problem to me. I sense somebody's PR will be going after the BRF extra hard now.

by Anonymousreply 477March 22, 2019 11:05 AM

Phillip fathered a child in the 1960s with a woman in Monaco. It drove a permanent wedge between him and Charles. I don't think Charles ever forgave him.

by Anonymousreply 478March 22, 2019 11:09 AM

Diana or Charles being photographed with a book source to subtly condone their actions seems very different from Andrew being seen with Epstein. Blackmail sounds like a more likely explanation. As in, be photographed with pariah-me or I'll release the photos.

Or it's just another example of arrogance. Like being given some fancy title by the Queen (I forget the details) after screwing up his trade ambassador role.

They already have to live in Frogmore Cottage and have already separated from KP and their PR and have to go to BP . Their PR will have to ask permission to a higher up to release press about them . Even when that PR is Sarah Latham . That is not winning in my book as much as these two want to spin another tale .

I agree that Andrew is likely to prove a potent enemy to MM. It's amusing to note her complete absence from his official Instagram feed... there is no acknowledgement of H&M's wedding and in the picture posted of the royals at Sandringham at Christmas, MM is completely obscured behind Charles.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Br0BFBzAaJK/

by Anonymousreply 489March 22, 2019 12:57 PM

R461 - I agree with your post. What is more, I think Harry's peccadilloes up to now have been much better hidden than Andrew's - for the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if he had had sex with underage girls. A man allowed himself to be be snapped by trash playing strip poker in Vegas, at which time he was hardly a university student letting off steam, not to mention the Nazi armband to the costume party where he could be seen, probably has a few more skeletons in a cupboard that was quickly and securely locked by his father with the cooperation of security services. You're right: Harry ain't right in the head, and his choice of a third rate actress whose only talent is for social climbing as a wife only enhances that impression.

by Anonymousreply 490March 22, 2019 1:43 PM

R489 - Meghan made a lifelong enemy of Andrew at his daughter's wedding, and I remain of the opinion that it was Andrew who sold the Tiaragate story, which probably quickly made the rounds of the family, to Jobson and the media, and that coincidentally dropped as soon as they came home from the Big Tour. It was notable that the family never bothered to deny the story. This was an instance in which she displayed the same short-sighted vicious spite she showed when she got Harry to threaten the UK press a year before they were ever engaged. She never sees past the short-term goal to the long-term impact. It will be interesting if the BRF now starts slowly giving Eugenie, much the more appealing of the two York girls whose chachet went up after the wedding, more scope, and giving Meghan more "real family - not contemptuous interloper" competition for public attention.

I wonder if Andrew has some odd, misplaced rivalry w Harry. Along the lines of "I know how to play the younger brother/second in line better than you". "Don't think you can upstage me in that role". That combined with messing w his beloved daughter's wedding day. He has it out for mm. And Harry I think.

by Anonymousreply 493March 22, 2019 1:51 PM

R493 - I think Andrew and Harry HAD a warm relationship BEFORE he married Sparkle.

I've seen a couple of videos of them kissing each other on the cheek which is the habit of the male members of the family (the females too). I would think their relationship has become a bit strained since MeMe's stunt at Eugenie's wedding.

by Anonymousreply 497March 22, 2019 1:57 PM

R495 - Thanks, but you have my theory backwards. I suspect Andrew decided to drop Tiaragate AFTER his daughter's wedding - my theory is Andrew leaked Tiaragate to the media, including the "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets!" and the Queen having to take Harry aside and tell him his intended needed attitude adjustment - only the family would have beeb privy to that. So it's my guess that Andrew leaked those tidbits AFTER Meghan was rude and stupid enough to think she could use his daughter's wedding to announce her pregnancy with the maternity coat. Which, I think, Meghan did as payback to Eugenie for getting the larger tiara with the emeralds that Meghan wanted for her headpiece.

And you lot thougth WE were the experts at pointless bitchery.

And the reason is, they know very well that without proof, they'd be crossing two lines that they aren't willing to risk going over: one is the legal line into slander (and I don't doubt they have been huddled with the lawyers trying to find a way around it), and the other is personal - it willl represent a door that once opened, they can't blithely close the next day when Meghan shows up in a new ensemble screaming, "Duchess stuns in . . .!" They know that permanently ruining the reputation (and don't believe for a moment this still isn't a potent weapon where women are concerned) of a senior member of the BRF is a very, very serious matter and will earn them potential backlash (especially as the lady in question in about to give birth to Diana's grandchild) from both the public and a gloves off war with the BRF.

The BRF and the media know where the lines are.in this game, and they are lines the German press dodesn't have to observe. Unless there is absolute proof of the tape, and the Duchess is well past having that baby, the story will not appear in the UK press. The only option of the UK press would be to run a faux indignant story about the filthy German press smearing Our Own royal family with unproven allegations, and I'm not sure even that would work.

It will be hands off except for the usual sly sniping through at least the christening.

by Anonymousreply 503March 22, 2019 2:45 PM

R501 - Nor I. Meghan's narcissism and ambition knows no bounds and in her chosen business, sex for advancement, especiallly at lower levels like hers, is the norm, not the exception.

by Anonymousreply 504March 22, 2019 2:48 PM

Looking at the posts under the new CDAN BI, one poster said, "Even better German television has been discussing the porn tape. Buckingham Palace will not be amused when they have to publicly dismiss it's existence. I thought Harry had paid off all these indiscretions before the marriage. Looks like he missed one."

Other posters pointed out that as Colin Farrell found out when he tried to erase the sex tape he made in his drugged up salad days with a previous GF, unless both parties sign off on it, you can't scrub a sex tape easily. Farrell's tape, as a consequence, is easily found on the web (yes, I found it, and yes I watched it, and yes, he has a very nice cock). Other posters on CDAN actually knew the names of a couple of well known sex tape brokers, and Enty (or whoever Enty sold the the site to but is still using Enty's moniker), is crowing I told you so! I told you so! I told you so!

by Anonymousreply 505March 22, 2019 2:56 PM

If a sex tape dropped right when she gives birth, that would be high stakes.

by Anonymousreply 506March 22, 2019 3:02 PM

R484 R485 - Yes, Dickie Arbiter is no Patrick Burrell. He was respected and trusted by the Queen. I read the article, and its tone is softer than the headline suggests, using phrases like "a bit" over the top, which is a very British way to understate whilst getting the point across. Arbiter knows the Queen quite well - I wonder If he knows her well enough to know that she isn't averse to increasing the mountain of negative press around the Sussexes . I do sometimes wonder if the BRF's "hands off" approach to most of Meghan's negative press is its subtle form of hoping that if life is made miserable enough for the Sussexes, they'll leave. I think they are past trying to save Harry from his mistake, and it must be clear to them by now that he's using Meghan as a weapon against them, so they'll leave him to be hanged with the noose he made for himself. Once Meghan got pregnant, Harry was corralled. He might tire of her draining narcissism, and it may be dawning upon him that they aren't going to win against the power of the institution. But doing to a child what was done to him, will be a pill too bitter. If Meghan can't hack it, Harry will leave with her because of the child.

She played him for the fool he is.

by Anonymousreply 507March 22, 2019 3:11 PM

I doubt she made a sex tape. She's always been obsessed with being a "respectable" celebrity influencer, so she'd have to know that she'd never overcome a sex tape (unless she wanted to be no more than an actress / reality TV star). If she needed money that badly, she would have sweet-talked her dad for it instead.

by Anonymousreply 508March 22, 2019 3:14 PM

In her other blog about a struggling actress she admitted that her twenties were hard, and there was a lot of "sex" going on, not citing herself obviously, to get ahead.

by Anonymousreply 509March 22, 2019 3:17 PM

R508 - I think you are overestimating her ability to think long-term, something she's demonstrated she has difficulty with. There are bona fide topless photos of her at the beach, and the hyena in heat photos as a suitcase girl on Deal or No Deal are hardly classy. She didn't really start the Classy Climb until she got the Suits job and moved to Toronto and started hobnobbing with the Mulroney woman.

I think she'd have fucked anyone and anything to get ahead in show business when show business was her visible aim. She's driven but not that smart. Prince Harry came into her sights long after this tape was probably made.

Anna Pasternak is a member of the Bottom Feeder Club with pretensions to literary class. Having produced a pathetic and soundly trashed attempt to novelise the romance between Diana and James Hewitt, she's now trying to get some traction with Harry and Meghan. Dickie Arbiter is a far more persuasive voice (although it must be said that he initially characterised Meghan Markle as one of Harry's "flings").

Just the same, the endless bad press is endlessly striking given how soon after the marriage it emerged.

Harry has exhibited from a young age incredibly bad judgement whose apex is his choice of a wife.

by Anonymousreply 517March 22, 2019 3:43 PM

Why don’t we just call this thread the Meghan and Harry hate thread. That’s pretty much what it has become and frankly, it’s getting tiresome.

R522 - I'm not disagreeing with Pasternak's point: I share the view and it is what many of us have pointed out on these threads. But I am questioning her motives for speaking out now and jumping on the back of whatever wind she thinks is the prevailing one at the moment.

But I do agree with the fundamental point: Meghan married Harry to become an A-List celebrity and is now finding out that A-list celebrityhood doesn't serve the broader interests of the institution who gave her that status - and to which her child will belong. She doesn't seem to realise that damaging that brand is to damage the very thing that will also give her child its high status.

It’s been said before, but she’s not always wise about her targets. If she wants to cozy up to Charles, she’d better pay dues to Camilla. And upstaging Eug at her wedding was a grave mistake. Perhaps Eug has forgiven her, but I’m sure Fergie and Andy haven’t. The women in the family are much more powerful than she thinks.

A lot of Harry's success as a soldier was lies, PR, and b.s. There is no sign he inherited any aptitude from his father's side. He appears to be all Diana. He IS a n'er do well. There is no better example among the royals anywhere. Monaco doesn't count.

by Anonymousreply 544March 22, 2019 5:39 PM

I think a real problem for Markle is money. When she gets out of there, if she ever does, she doesn't want transition money. She wants set for life money. If past is precedent, the BRF will inform her that her going away $$ will have to come from her husband, whose ready cash is limited. (I can just see Harry saying, SURE, I'll give you half of the funds that make up my portion of mom's trust fund!). She came into the BRF with nothing. She has no property and no assets.

There's lots of theories - one, that all the merching money is going to pay PR, so she's falling behind, not making bank. Another is that others are paying her PR, so she merches to pay THEM off. But then there are others who say her clothes are mostly borrowed, and that is the relationship - wear the clothes free, publicize the label, no $$$.

When SohoBebe is out, they will have to give her enough to support a household to care for the child when the child is with her. But, it is a given she will demand a whole lot more than they're prepared to settle on her, and she and Harry are not Fergie and Andrew.

It would be funny, though, if Harry were stuck with her just as if she were Fergie, because he can't afford to get rid of her and the BRF won't pony up.

by Anonymousreply 545March 22, 2019 5:50 PM

Well, I can't connect the dots. What does that article insinuate by reporting a heavily pregnant woman is hanging around H&M's Cotswolds pad when H&M have said they won't need it after March? What's the "aha!" part of all that.

by Anonymousreply 546March 22, 2019 5:56 PM

R538 - Wait - PH was seen at BILD in Berlin a few months ago?! Link, please - and receipts or I don't believe it.

That said, if he was there to try to scrub it, they told him to go fuck himself, waited awhile, and leaked the story anyway.

But frankly, I don't believe that PH would have been stupid enough to get photographed at BILD - further, I doubt he'd have gone himself to handle the matter, anyway; someone else would have been sent on behalf of the BRF - such as, for example, one of their solicitors accompanied by someone from MI6.

by Anonymousreply 547March 22, 2019 5:57 PM

No the person who posted that bit, but I think it is insinuating that the purpose of the Cotswold pad is to house their surrogate. Not saying I agree, just that I think that is what they're insinuating, r546.

If it's hitting the front pages of broadsheets in The Netherlands, the BRF and the British press have a looming problem - the BRF on whether to issue a denial, which won't persuade anybody of anything, or to ignore it; the British media to ignore the story or print a story that European newspapers are printing the story.

by Anonymousreply 574March 22, 2019 8:16 PM

I think most people will do many things to get ahead but this sex tape story doesn't pass the smell test.

According to the producer, who incidentally doesn't have the tape and won't say who does, this tape was made quite recently because the person in the tape says she is going to marry a prince. So according to his timeline, Meghan made a sex tape with a photographer after she and Harry had started dating and were far enough along that she thought it might lead to marriage (2016-2017). I think she's better at social climbing than to jeopardize the Windsor money for a sex tape. There was every chance of it leaking before she had sealed the deal. One would also think that during this period she was being monitored and vetted by the royal family and MI5.

Is the porn producer is saying the footage is pre-Harry but he received the tape in the run up to the wedding and decided not to released it because he's not longer in the porn business? That's even less believable. Who turns down cash, notoriety and dirt on one of the biggest news stories of 2018? There's no hint that he found religion so what's the reason for turning down the tapes and deleting the footage too?

Stranger things have happened but, the timeline and the porn king sound suspicious to me.

by Anonymousreply 583March 22, 2019 8:33 PM

Wrong R575. You didn't follow correctly. Sex tape broker was contacted about a year ago by a "woman in Toronto" who wanted advice on a sex tape she was holding but wouldn't give details. He responded with you've got to give me more info or I'm not biting. Eventually she revealed the person in the tape's name is Meghan and she is about to marry a prince. She also said this sex tape was made about 4 years prior, 2012/2013 timeline, and MEghan was doing it with some photographer from Florida. Broker said I need more so she let him see a portion of it. He claims there is no doubt it was MEghan he saw mugging for the camera and giving this guy some major rim job. He never had the tape in his possession nor does he have the evidence in hands of what he saw.

by Anonymousreply 584March 22, 2019 8:34 PM

Oh, thank you R546. That makes sense. I was thinking it was Meghan and they weren't saying the name for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 585March 22, 2019 8:42 PM

R580 - "It's not so much meghan but what she represents that is threatening to some.

Let's break that sentence down:

(1) "it's not so much Meghan" - Um, yeah I'm afraid it is ALL about Meghan. Her fame whoring, her overspending, her merchandising, her delusions of grandeur, her thumbing her nose at tradition, her rudeness, her pretentiousness, her people ghosting etc...

(2) "but what she represents that is threatening to some" - Let me guess, you're talking about race again? Tsk tsk. Her pushy personality and abrasive character are not what the royal family needs at the moment (or any family for that matter). Her presence is toxic (please see No# ).

by Anonymousreply 586March 22, 2019 8:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 587March 22, 2019 8:44 PM

Projecting into the future when Meghan and Harry are still together because nobody is going to pay her off to leave - does Meghan ski? There was an image posted here of Andrew and Sarah assisting a young adult Eugenie right after her back surgery. They're at a ski resort.

When I think of the royals recreating and vacationing, I think of skiing, and I think of horses. Of course there's the tropical holiday too, but that's only part of it. Wondering what Meghan will do with herself if she ends up in royal limbo.

by Anonymousreply 588March 22, 2019 8:51 PM

R567 - I highly doubt that the quiet and shy Duke of Gloucester would want the role of Royal Family "fixer". He has many patronages as does his wife and they represent the Queen around the country. They used to tour the Commonwealth in their younger days but I think they stay in Britain now for the most part.

by Anonymousreply 589March 22, 2019 8:55 PM

R588 - I haven't seen any photos of Meghan skiiing. I did see a photo of her on a horse when she was a young girl but I don't think it's a major passion for her. She gives off a California vibe: yoga, beach and surf.

by Anonymousreply 590March 22, 2019 8:57 PM

Well R588, if ME's resume when she was on Suits is anything to go by, according to [italic]her[/italic] she is proficient at
baseball, golf, swimming, horseback riding, snowboarding, and even baton twirling

TMZ added from her CV: "Meghan also claims she's well-versed in more than a dozen forms of dance, speaks three languages, sings pop and country, and plays guitar, drums... and finger cymbals."

And the best part, it says she can "juggle and has further talents as a DJ, masseuse... and a stripper."

I call bullshit on the skiing and snowboarding otherwise she would have assaulted her Insta with 'day at the slopes' in Aspen, Park City or whatnot.

by Anonymousreply 591March 22, 2019 9:02 PM

I call bullshit on the other languages.

R586 That's not the story in the Dutch paper or any of the others I've seen. Link to the podcast where Blatt gives that version of the story.

So the other guy says it's a shot from the top of a brunette's head and that you can't see her face at all. Blatt says he's sure it was Meghan but doesn't have the video and doesn't say how he's sure it's her and he's sure it wasn't one of those doctored videos on Pornhub. He's positive it's her and walks away from a big pay day on a legendary sex tape.

I still think it stretches credulity but, who knows.
