Andrew Rannells

His book came out yesterday. Never really a fan of his and hadn't even really heard of him until I saw him in a play on Broadway this past summer, and he's been on my radar since. He was on Good Morning America yesterday talking about his book release, so out of curiosity I purchased it.

I'm about halfway through, but taking a break to say: his book flows well, he's entertaining and funny as hell, and he's been molested/taken advantage of sexually...like... A LOT.

Totally caught me off guard, and it's not at all the focus of the book, but all this is to say that I keep getting stunned by his genuine honesty. It's worth the read, if any of you are looking for a good book to pick up or download.

I loved him on Girls.

by Anonymousreply 1March 13, 2019 8:22 PM

He was the best thing about "Girls."

I'm sad to hear that he was sexually assaulted / molested.

by Anonymousreply 2March 13, 2019 8:26 PM

He seems obnoxious and his face looks like it was made out of wax.

by Anonymousreply 3March 13, 2019 9:03 PM

Didn't people used to wait until they DONE something before they "wrote" an autobiography?

by Anonymousreply 4March 13, 2019 9:32 PM

"had" DONE....

by Anonymousreply 5March 13, 2019 9:33 PM

What age was he first molested?

by Anonymousreply 6March 13, 2019 9:34 PM

He doesn't mention Girls at all. I skimmed the ebook for keywords.

by Anonymousreply 7March 13, 2019 9:55 PM

Does most of America even know who he is? It seems like everybody gets a memoir these days, no matter who they are.

by Anonymousreply 8March 13, 2019 10:02 PM

I adore him. One of the best talk show guests out there.

by Anonymousreply 9March 13, 2019 10:11 PM

He looks like a chipmunk

by Anonymousreply 10March 13, 2019 10:13 PM

he's too fat, i don't believe he was molested

by Anonymousreply 11March 13, 2019 10:14 PM

He does have a strange plastic looking face, but I do find him rather funny. He was great in The Boys in the Band last year.

by Anonymousreply 12March 13, 2019 10:23 PM

Does he talk about The New Normal and co-star Justin Bartha? I liked that show and thought they were cute as a couple

by Anonymousreply 13March 13, 2019 10:28 PM

Saw him in "The Boys in the Band" on Broadway. His was definitely the weakest performance.

by Anonymousreply 14March 13, 2019 10:51 PM

The book is only 13 dollars on IBooks so I downloaded it.

Jesus Christ! So you’re from Omaha! Get over it!

by Anonymousreply 15March 13, 2019 10:51 PM

I’m sorry but a priest briefly frenching you during confession does not count as molestation.

by Anonymousreply 16March 13, 2019 11:40 PM

R16, is that a spoiler?

by Anonymousreply 17March 13, 2019 11:41 PM

34, r6

by Anonymousreply 18March 13, 2019 11:44 PM

He looks like an Asian woman on the cover.

by Anonymousreply 19March 14, 2019 12:07 AM

He’s a gay theater kid from the sticks who moved to the big city. Why is that news? Aren’t we all?

I like him but his tales of woe seem to have a humble-brag angle. Like the time he converted a straight guy— the relationship turned out to be a nightmare but don’t forget that he’s hot enough to convert a straight guy. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2019 12:17 AM

He's his own biggest fan.

by Anonymousreply 21March 14, 2019 12:19 AM

He sure is.

by Anonymousreply 22March 14, 2019 12:30 AM

When was he molested?

by Anonymousreply 23March 14, 2019 12:32 AM

R23, the better question is why is he molesting US?

by Anonymousreply 24March 14, 2019 12:34 AM

Of course no mention of "Girls". That's for volume 2 of the 10-set Magnum Opus of his glorious life.

by Anonymousreply 25March 14, 2019 12:38 AM

So on a scale of Tim Tebow to Andy Cohen, how big of a slut was Rannells?

by Anonymousreply 26March 14, 2019 12:41 AM

R26 Huge whore, huge

by Anonymousreply 27March 14, 2019 12:43 AM

Writing a memoir at such a young age is a sign the author realizes he's all washed up. He wanted to publish the memoir before he's entirely forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 28March 14, 2019 12:45 AM

Saw him on Kimmell and he said this book was from his early years to his broadway debut. Saving that for another rainy day, I presume.

by Anonymousreply 29March 14, 2019 12:46 AM

I wrote a memoir too so anyone can do it, guys!

by Anonymousreply 30March 14, 2019 12:47 AM

Here are the goods

by Anonymousreply 31March 14, 2019 12:59 AM

He has the gay equivalent to resting bitchface. Resting gayface.

by Anonymousreply 32March 14, 2019 1:17 AM

Bottom?

by Anonymousreply 33March 14, 2019 1:18 AM

^^^Do you even have to ask

by Anonymousreply 34March 14, 2019 1:24 AM

R2 Was he was sexually assaulted / molested in a nice, caring and sharing way?

R28 Noël release his memoir 'Present Indicative' when he was in his 30s.

by Anonymousreply 35March 14, 2019 1:25 AM

Jake Shears's memoir has 34 reviews on Amazon and ranks #297,382. Hopefully, Andrew will do better.

by Anonymousreply 36March 14, 2019 1:29 AM

R36 I heard Shears admit on TV that his career is on the wain. He had to fly out to the Sydney Mardi Gras to get a full-house of paying customers (who actually paid to dance and take drugs).

by Anonymousreply 37March 14, 2019 1:34 AM

Is his career big enough that we need a memoir from him?

by Anonymousreply 38March 14, 2019 1:37 AM

How much detail does he use to describe the rapes?

by Anonymousreply 39March 14, 2019 1:38 AM

He wasn't raped, he was fellated.

by Anonymousreply 40March 14, 2019 1:39 AM

[quote] Noël release his memoir 'Present Indicative' when he was in his 30s.

It is no longer 1932, and even if it were, Andrew Rannells is no Noël Coward..

by Anonymousreply 41March 14, 2019 1:39 AM

R37, and he's BFFs with Kylie Minogue so she probably paid for it.

by Anonymousreply 42March 14, 2019 1:39 AM

R41 Noël was genius in many genres.

But I don't actually think I've seen this rannells person.

by Anonymousreply 43March 14, 2019 2:17 AM

R39 Was it rape, rape?

by Anonymousreply 44March 14, 2019 2:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 45March 14, 2019 2:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 49March 14, 2019 4:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 50March 14, 2019 5:02 AM

Could you imagine writing this book? Could you imagine buying this book?

by Anonymousreply 51March 14, 2019 5:04 AM

Love him....talented and great with his fans!

by Anonymousreply 52March 14, 2019 5:38 AM

[quote]Could you imagine buying this book?

Considering I *did* buy it, yes. Haven't opened it yet but I will this weekend. But sure, take the frau / Republican route and criticize someone you don't know whose book you haven't read.

by Anonymousreply 53March 14, 2019 5:47 AM

OP = Andrew Rannells

by Anonymousreply 54March 14, 2019 6:27 AM

r54 my thought too and was surprised it took that long for somebody to say it

by Anonymousreply 55March 14, 2019 6:41 AM

R53, is everything you don't like automatically "Republican"?

Mind you, I ordered the book. I find Andy dee-lightful. But "Republican" just because someone doesn't?

by Anonymousreply 56March 14, 2019 10:58 AM

The book reviews have been pretty great - it’s supposedky great insight into being a young person trying to make it into Broadway. I’ll definitely read it.

by Anonymousreply 57March 14, 2019 12:36 PM

He wrote a column for the Sunday NY Times' "Modern Love" page a few weeks ago. It was about how he fell for a long term bf. He's a good writer

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 58March 14, 2019 2:53 PM

He seems tedious and bratty.

by Anonymousreply 59March 14, 2019 4:49 PM

R56, I meant "Republican" in the context of judging things they haven't even seen, read or heard. They do it all the time with various pop-culture products, most recently "Captain Marvel."

by Anonymousreply 60March 14, 2019 4:56 PM

He’s got an amazing ass and I loved every minute of seeing it on Girls.

by Anonymousreply 61March 14, 2019 5:01 PM

[quote] and he's been molested/taken advantage of sexually...like... A LOT.

Is that the excuse he gives for being a slut and a people user who discards others immediately after he's got what he needs from them?

by Anonymousreply 62March 14, 2019 5:02 PM

[QUOTE]Saw him in "The Boys in the Band" on Broadway. His was definitely the weakest performance.

There were no weak performances, everyone held their own and it was a terrific show.

by Anonymousreply 63March 14, 2019 5:05 PM

That's not a book in you , Lorna dear. That's a cock

by Anonymousreply 64March 14, 2019 5:09 PM

Did Rannells just rehash his smug bitchiness in Boys in the Band? He only has one character.

by Anonymousreply 65March 14, 2019 5:13 PM

(23) when metoo became a thing.

by Anonymousreply 66March 14, 2019 5:14 PM

Coward had written a number of hugely successful plays which premiered on the West End and Broadway and toured all over, was on the cover of Time, the film of his play Cavalcade won the best picture Oscar and he was a famous personality before there were TV interview shows. I don't think if your best known work is a featured role on Girls it's quite the same thing

by Anonymousreply 67March 14, 2019 5:25 PM

He did The Book of Mormon and that was at least a decade ago. He was a supporting actor on Girls, which had a very niche audience. Most of the public has no idea who this guy is.

by Anonymousreply 68March 14, 2019 5:27 PM

He was also the lead in that shortlived network TV show about a gay couple

by Anonymousreply 69March 14, 2019 5:31 PM

Which alone is worth two autobiographical volumes.

by Anonymousreply 70March 14, 2019 5:33 PM

I adore him. He's hilarious, seems to have a big heart and is so hot. He's not just nice to look at from an aesthetic angle, he radiates raw sex appeal. I'm sorry to hear he was molested and exploited. Very difficult stuff to carry.

R69 He proved to be unexpectedly talented at drama on "The New Normal". He pulls you in with his great comedic timing but it's the unexpected dramatic moments that he also delivers with perfect timing, that really hit you.

by Anonymousreply 71March 14, 2019 5:42 PM

Total phony. Ego the size of Australia,

by Anonymousreply 72March 14, 2019 5:45 PM

I adore him as well, and thought the book was good!

by Anonymousreply 73March 14, 2019 5:46 PM

OP and R71 are the same person.

The guy can sing but he's a dime a dozen in the Broadway community. Guess the difference is most actors don't have the inclination to write such a book. Didn't realize Jake Shears book didn't get much traction. So who is going to buy this??

by Anonymousreply 74March 14, 2019 5:46 PM

R74 I'm not the OP, unless you meant we're both a dime a dozen in our appreciation of Rannells.

R72 Oh, I'm so glad to hear it. I like to imagine him keeping the prissy "Book of Mormon" costume on and passive-aggressively berating me between moans, while I take him.

by Anonymousreply 75March 14, 2019 5:56 PM

This book did not receive a *starred review from Kirkus Reviews.

by Anonymousreply 78March 14, 2019 6:17 PM

I do like that he's able to make a whole career on playing gays guys

by Anonymousreply 79March 14, 2019 6:23 PM

I want to chow down on his dong. But he looks like he wears bad cologne.

by Anonymousreply 80March 14, 2019 7:38 PM

Andrew Rannells was not a stand-out in The Boys in the Band, whoever it was above who said that every person in the cast was brilliant or whatever. There were some great performance and there were some bad ones (the redhead from Desperate Housewives was awful). That hot guy from "One Life to Live" was one of my favorites. I didn't get Zachary Quinto's performance. Jim Parsons was excellent. Matt Bomer was completely miscast.

by Anonymousreply 81March 14, 2019 7:57 PM

It is hard to imagine having sexual attraction toward him. He is like a cartoon character.

by Anonymousreply 82March 14, 2019 8:29 PM

Does he provide any details about his Asian/Pacific Islander genetic heritage?

by Anonymousreply 83March 14, 2019 8:36 PM

On GIRLS he played a stock FAGGOT character-SCENEY, QUEENY AND BITCHY.

by Anonymousreply 84March 14, 2019 8:39 PM

[quote] What age was he first molested?

30, but it got him a callback for the Book of Mormon.

by Anonymousreply 85March 14, 2019 8:41 PM

[quote]On GIRLS he played a stock FAGGOT character-SCENEY, QUEENY AND BITCHY.

That's just what he is. Pretty sure he came out of the womb with an arched eyebrow and asked for a gimlet.

Frankly this is what I admire about him. He's very unapologetic about what he is and seems comfortable in his own skin.

by Anonymousreply 86March 14, 2019 8:47 PM

I love Andrew. He is an amazing talent. Check him out in FALSETTOS.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 87March 14, 2019 8:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 88March 14, 2019 9:21 PM

He'll be singing on Ellen today.

by Anonymousreply 89March 14, 2019 9:30 PM

Oops, Rannells isn't on Ellen. I got him confused with another gay singer from broadway.

by Anonymousreply 90March 14, 2019 9:36 PM

The bitchy, superficial, fickle character that he played in GIRLS would never be friends with dumpy, plain Hannah in real life. But since Lens Dunham writes the show, the two characters were diehard besties. Bleh.

by Anonymousreply 91March 14, 2019 9:39 PM

He's really good on his new show, BLACK MONDAY, and convincingly plays someone 10-15 years younger than his actual age.

by Anonymousreply 92March 14, 2019 9:48 PM

r71=Andrew Rannells

by Anonymousreply 93March 14, 2019 9:57 PM

[quote]That's not a book in you , Lorna dear. That's a cock

Oh, geez, no! Don't tell me I'm being molested -- AGAIN!

by Anonymousreply 94March 14, 2019 10:12 PM

[quote]Andrew Rannells was not a stand-out in The Boys in the Band, whoever it was above who said that every person in the cast was brilliant or whatever.

You have the reading comprehension of a Trump.

by Anonymousreply 95March 14, 2019 10:13 PM

For the person who keeps asking what age he was first molested at, it depends on what you would count as molested because there's multiple things he talked about- kissing, petting, actual sex, but he was a 15 /16 year old in a relationship/having sex with a 40 something year old. SOOO... pretty young.

by Anonymousreply 96March 14, 2019 11:23 PM

My white gay boss from Chicago reminds me of his characters in girls sometimes. Only less intense. But bitchy

by Anonymousreply 97March 14, 2019 11:39 PM

He seems like the kind of queen who would judge you and make fun of you because you use grooming products from the drugstore and not the latest high-end overpriced fuckery.

by Anonymousreply 98March 14, 2019 11:43 PM

R98 umm... that's oddly specific lol. You okay?

by Anonymousreply 99March 14, 2019 11:42 PM

Beware, Rannells! Clearly lots of fuming understudies here, perfecting the level of dramatic delivery required to make an "accident" look convincing. Dagger eyes = Don't take the stairs.

R98 I hope so. There's no victory like a "Pinaud Clubman" victory.

by Anonymousreply 100March 15, 2019 12:01 AM

Damn, ordered this off ebay but will not be happy if no "Girls" in it. A perfect example of how one can love the work of an artist while hating the artist in person (Dunham). It's such a great show.

That and his Tony for a very cool Broadway show (where's the movie?) are enough to merit a book (the revival of BITB too, for me, anyway). But not if he's going to pull a Sally Field and write about his feelings only. bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 104March 15, 2019 12:10 AM

I don't dislike him as a performer, but really don't understand the trend of reasonably young C-Listers writing memoirs

by Anonymousreply 105March 15, 2019 12:14 AM

Pinaud Clubman? OH DEAR. How are things in Graspingville?

by Anonymousreply 106March 15, 2019 12:28 AM

I thought the age of consent in Nebraska was like 9? Wait. Sorry. That's Arkansas...unless you have a note from your Mother.

by Anonymousreply 107March 15, 2019 12:32 AM

R106 It has legacy! The truly sophisticated understand such things.

by Anonymousreply 108March 15, 2019 12:33 AM

He did not win a Tony Award and he is 40, not 45.

by Anonymousreply 109March 15, 2019 12:47 AM

No one seems to know how age of consent works.

Each state has their own laws with the age. Just cause the age of consent in your state is 15 doesn’t mean you can fuck a 15 year old when you’re 40. There’s also laws in place based on age difference

by Anonymousreply 110March 15, 2019 1:12 AM

He is a Grammy winner, however, so 1/4 of the way to his EGOT. Tony is probably next after two nods .

by Anonymousreply 111March 15, 2019 1:23 AM

He has a new TV show on cable. Boring. I forgot the name of it but stopped watching after second episode. Terrible show and Andy was mugging all through it.

by Anonymousreply 112March 15, 2019 2:22 AM

[Quote] He is a Grammy winner, however, so 1/4 of the way to his EGOT. Tony is probably next after two nods .

Rannells still has a way to go. Even 25 year old Ben Platt already has the EGT. All he needs is his Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 113March 15, 2019 2:29 AM

[quote]I thought the age of consent in Nebraska was like 9? Wait. Sorry. That's Arkansas...unless you have a note from your Mother.

It's only 9 in Arkansas if you're having sex WITH your mother. Or another relative.

by Anonymousreply 114March 15, 2019 2:34 AM

Also R105, I get what you're saying but to be fair the aim of this memoir isn't to document his fabulous life and talk about how great he is, he's really honest about the shit that happened to him and how the path to success isn't as easy/clean as is it seems. The book actually ends well before what we all know him from (Girls, The Book of Mormon, TBITB, Black Monday, or etc) even happens. He essentially said that he wrote it to share with young aspiring actors what it's truly like trying to break it in the business, so that they don't get discouraged when they don't get from point A (the start) to point B (fame & success) so easily.

by Anonymousreply 115March 15, 2019 2:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 118March 15, 2019 2:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 128March 16, 2019 6:18 PM

Unquestionably.

by Anonymousreply 129March 16, 2019 6:34 PM

I just got finished reading the book. While it is certainly not Kafka, it is a very easy and enjoyable book that every boy who has dreams of making it on Broadway should read, especially the gay or naive ones. There really isn't graphic sex, so it would be appropriate for a junior or senior in hs to read. His life was not terribly tough; most Broadway kids didn't have a tough life, just one checkered with failure and disappointment. But, he knocks out some of the glamour with which kids look at the stage and theatrical careers.

by Anonymousreply 130March 16, 2019 10:51 PM

Does it end suggesting there will be a second memoir?

by Anonymousreply 131March 16, 2019 11:01 PM

It's another one of those small thin books I can't stand (think Whoopi "A Book") but the cover is great and it has a nice design. An easy read. But I wish I had waited until it was bucks at Barnes and Noble. Give it a couple of months.

by Anonymousreply 132March 16, 2019 11:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 139March 17, 2019 12:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 140March 17, 2019 1:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 141March 17, 2019 1:54 AM

Oh they were totally doing it, Rannells was caught slipping his arm around Bomer’s waist in a way only people who are fucking do (right at pocket level). They didn’t know they were being filmed by Michael B Washington for his Story when it happened.

by Anonymousreply 144March 17, 2019 2:43 AM

Was he in the original cast of The Book of Mormon?

[quote] Cause those two were very Cosy with each other in a way it seemed they were fucking.

Bomer only likes much older men. He always has even before his husband.

Rannells and most of the cast of tBitB, had known each other for 20 years. The entire cast was very touchy feely with each other.

However, being that Bomer's husband was doing PR for the play, he got him into the play because Ryan Murphy is his client and Bomer and Rannells are both bottoms, they were just going on as girls sometimes do. Bomer spent most of his time with Quinto, Parsons and Michael B Washington. Rannells was much closer with Carver even continuing to spend time with him outside of the play, taking him to fire island and spending holidays with him.

Either way, that clip that was posted by an actor from the show (who wouldn't have posted it if there was something going on since he knew them both decades ago), showed Bomer not even lifting his arm when Rannells went to put it around him. The two were noticeably publicly separated from one another after they finished doing promotional appearances from the show as if one told the other to back off.

by Anonymousreply 147March 17, 2019 6:47 AM

Sure hon.

by Anonymousreply 148March 17, 2019 7:30 AM

R148, Oh, you're that weird troll from that Matt Bomer thread. Please, feel free to go back to where everyone put you on ignore a long time ago you psychopath. Tah!

The name of the show is Black Monday.

Any Denis Jones gossip in the book? That's the only reason I'd buy it.

by Anonymousreply 152March 17, 2019 4:18 PM

Bomer and Quinto both went to Carnegie Mellon, so I think that's another reason why they're close.

by Anonymousreply 153March 17, 2019 10:22 PM

definitely not not of interest for geritol set

by Anonymousreply 154March 17, 2019 11:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 155March 18, 2019 5:27 AM

It's funny how the media will book and interview someone like this based on his resume essentially but the work he's actually done isn't really that extraordinary or memorable. Strange times.

by Anonymousreply 156March 18, 2019 5:53 AM

I think he's SEX on STILTS.

by Anonymousreply 157March 18, 2019 5:57 AM

Considering Doyle and he had a major relationship for a number of years as one saw from Doyle's Twitter I imagine he devotes a number of pages to Mike and their relationship.

Or does he pretend Doyle never existed in his life or played a tiny part and it was all in Mike's head? Which seems a very Rannells' thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 158March 18, 2019 3:36 PM

R158 maybe you didn't read any of the rest of the thread, but it was clearly pointed out that this memoir is written with the purpose of explaining how the path to success isn't always as glamorous as it seems. He felt like he achieved success once he had his broadway debut, so that's where the novel stops, he didn't even know Mike Doyle then.

"a very Rannells thing to do" lol, calm down Mary. Doyle was at one of his book signings, so clearly they're still friends and significant to each other.

by Anonymousreply 159March 18, 2019 3:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 163March 18, 2019 4:52 PM

What was the script carrying fiasco?

by Anonymousreply 164March 18, 2019 4:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 172March 19, 2019 12:23 AM

New York is an island stuffed to the brim with flyover transplants. The rest of the country isn’t dumb enough to believe in native New Yorkers.

by Anonymousreply 173March 19, 2019 12:23 AM

Wrong R63. There were several bad performances. Tuc Watkins fucked up a couple of his few lines the night I saw it. The show was miscast. To have Rannells playing Larry, the gorgeous guy that men were lusting over was a mistake. Should have been Bomer. It took a lot of imagination to think that Rannels was taking Tuc upstairs to fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 175March 19, 2019 12:51 AM

It looks like he's been having plastic surgery since the age of 7.

He makes me think of Conrad Veidt in The Man Who Laughs.

by Anonymousreply 183March 19, 2019 7:38 PM

Rannells was fine in THE BOYS IN THE BAND but miscast and awful in FALSETTOS. The only bad performance in BOYS was Charlie Carver as the Cowboy, miscast and clueless.

[quote]However, being that Bomer's husband was doing PR for the play, he got him into the play because Ryan Murphy is his client and Bomer and Rannells are both bottoms, they were just going on as girls sometimes do.

Bomer's husband was not the PR rep for THE BOYS IN THE BAND, though of course he may have helped out behind the scenes.

by Anonymousreply 184March 19, 2019 7:59 PM

Andrew was great in TBITB, and he had the audience laughing constantly especially during his phone call. Honestly the only performance that stuck out in a bad way was given by Brian Hutchinson who played Alan, and at times- as much as I love him- Matt Bomer's but it was his first time in a broadway play so we'll blame it on that lol.

by Anonymousreply 185March 19, 2019 8:20 PM

[quote]Bomer's husband was not the PR rep for THE BOYS IN THE BAND, though of course he may have helped out behind the scenes.

IIRC he wasn't be he did help. He helped set up interviews for the cast in various outlets, was thanked specifically for setting up the Times pieces/coverage, and handled getting interviews for his husband/Matt Bomer individually (who did more than anyone despite it being his Broadway debut.) He is the one behind his entire career. Plus, he's Ryan Murphy's primary PR handler. So yes, he was definitely involved even if it just was in that capacity.

But this is a thread about Mr. Omaha / Andrew.

[quote]Read the damn book, it's been said in the thread so many times that he only goes over his primitive years trying to make it in the business. Lena is from a later part of his life.

The part of his life that the book is about is the part that would be most interesting to a general audience. I don't think there are enough people who would be interested in a book about Andrew's life now but since it was framed as a "guide" to help younger actors trying to get to the point where he was at the end of the book, it has much more of a mass appeal. It was rather smart of him and his team. It also seems like younger people really like Andrew.

by Anonymousreply 186March 19, 2019 8:59 PM

"It also seems like younger people really like Andrew."

I mentioned seeing Andrew Rannells at tea in Fire Island to my 20-something housemates and not one of them had heard of him.

by Anonymousreply 187March 20, 2019 12:04 AM

He's very niche.

by Anonymousreply 188March 20, 2019 12:05 AM

Rannells mentioned Bomer at his book signing in suburban Chicago, he said something like “Don’t fucking woo Matt Bomer.” Not sure what the context was.

by Anonymousreply 189March 21, 2019 12:31 AM

If you type in "Andrew Rannells Fire Island", this is what comes up.

I thought the whole cast of The Boys in the Band was excellent. Even Carver who got quite a few laughs the night I saw it. He just had to stand there, look cute, and act dumb. He did. Bomer was fine, too, but he really doesn't do much for most of the show except sit back and observe. DeJesus was the real scene stealer, though. The audience ate him up.

by Anonymousreply 191March 21, 2019 12:59 AM

R187, "Younger" people may have meant teens. A lot of theater kids think he is it thanks to Falsettos.

R189, He was being interviewed at the university. Matt's name was brought up because they had worked together and the audience woo-ed because he is hot. He said "Don't FUCKING woo Matt ......." It was a joke. He wasn't actually angry.

R190, His pics from there with Charlie are on his instagram and Charlie's. They also spent time together at the start of Christmas.

Speaking of which, I'm genuinely confused as to why Black Monday has gotten any bad reviews from critics- all of the people I know who have tuned in find it genuinely entertaining, myself included. It's such a fun and original show, and Andrew does amazing in it.

by Anonymousreply 198March 21, 2019 2:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 216March 22, 2019 11:49 AM

No I don't but I didn't know Lauren Bacall in person either.

Rannells is known as a what can you do for me actor and every once in a while his oh so affable talk show/interview demeaner breaks and a snide/bitchy/arrogant edge breaks through. His tireless self promotion is exhausting for others. But many actors are like this. Oh I like this person so much! They seem so nice! They are acting.

by Anonymousreply 217March 22, 2019 12:27 PM

For someone who can't play straight to save his life, Rannells has had a pretty decent career so far.

by Anonymousreply 218March 22, 2019 12:29 PM

Exactly what I assumed R217. Thank you for confirming. Reminds me of a drag queen I know (more well known than Rannells).

R217 You don't know him at all, and you're making assumptions based on nothing. If you have so much dislike for him, then go start a thread over someone you do like and dedicate your time there. But regardless of your feelings on him, his book is resonating with a lot of people, and he's experiencing steady success. Stuff like that doesn't happen for the type of people you're describing.

by Anonymousreply 220March 22, 2019 3:46 PM

He's the definition of "niche." He's not really that famous.

by Anonymousreply 222March 22, 2019 3:53 PM

R221 Sure, but there's such thing as giving someone the benefit of the doubt. He's done nothing to you for you to say such nasty things about him, and I don't mean that in a "hey!!! Don't be such a big meanie!!" childish way- I mean that the only person your comments are reflecting poorly on are you, but by all means if you wanna come across as a bitchy queen feel free. Seems like a complete waste of time and energy to devote any time on, but like I said that's your prerogative lol.

by Anonymousreply 223March 22, 2019 4:07 PM

Oh FFS r223 Rannells is the epitome of a bitch queen and a try-hard. You don't have to personally know someone to get it. I don't personally know Trump but I know he's an asshole and a lunatic.
