by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 12, 2019 6:32 AM |
They will almost certainly give it a typical royal name. Meghan wants so much to fit in.
It would be a huge mistake to name it Diana, but they may name her that anyway. If it's a girl they should name her "Frances," which was Diana's middle name and her mother's first name--it would still be a tribute to Harry's mother, but she wouldn't always be compared to THE Diana.

Spot on, R4. She'll want as royal a name as possible for this baby.
I agree with you that "Frances" would be a lovely, pitch-perfect tribute: clearly a reference to Diana, but not psychologically burdensome for her grandchild. But I don't think it would be grand enough for Meghan's tastes. I predict the baby will be named after a fairly recent royal, perhaps someone dear to the Queen or Prince Philip for maximum brown-nosing.
Does anyone think she might go with Margaret? On the surface, it would look like a tribute to the Queen's sister, but underneath, it would really be Meghan's tribute to herself. Meghan/Megan is a Welsh pet form of Margaret, so it would be her way of inserting her own name into the royal history books.

If I were having a royal baby, I'd look to the Hanovers to get some decent girl names- Sophia, Amelia, Caroline. I don't think they'll name any girls Elizabeth while the current queen is still alive. Mary is too dated. Not dated in a cute trendy way, just in a "Everyone over 65 is named Mary" kind of way.
If it's a boy, Philip, because he's about to kick the bucket and it'll be a nice homage.

It could well be Arthur, which is Charles's favorite male name. It's a middle name for both William and George.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 14, 2019 3:30 AM |
If it's a girl, both Diana and Doria are likely middle names--both Harry and Meghan are obsessed with their mothers.
"Doria" could be a first name (since there is zero chance their child would inherit the throne). There is almost zero chance the child will be given "Diana" as a first name--it would mean too much media attention for the child.

The queen has no say when it's this far removed from the throne.
She had no say when her only daughter told her she was going to name her daughter "Zara." She had no say because that child was only sixth in line to the throne at the time... and this child will be born only [italic]seventh[/italic] in line.
