Was a kick to see him as the host of a recent “Celebrity Bowling” binge watch on Amazon!
I didn't see too many of his roles, I remember him from 90210 which I though he was good in, but he was horribly miscast as Edward Quartermaine on GH.

He was absolutely perfect as CC Capwell. He had that rich, entitled but sec swag. Hope he went peacefully.
Not a great time for the 90210 cast

He was great as Don Craig in DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Such a good looking man.

Gracious, is Asa Buchanan next???

He was one hot daddy. I agree that he was an absolutely terrible recast as Edward Quartermaine on GH.

[quote] he was horribly miscast as Edward Quartermaine on GH.
That was an emergency recast - Jill Farren Phelps dropped John Ingle (Edward) to recurring. The cast was SHOCKED - every single one of them, they could not believe this tool place. Even FOJ were shocked.
Days of our Lives moved in for the kill and scooped up John Ingle to contract, before ABC could make a counter offer - Because he was not on contract anymore, Ingle left with no notice.
With Edward character scheduled to be on-set that day, JFP had no choice but to get a last minute replacement PRONTO - old friend Jed Allan had been networking with Soap honchos looking to get hired, so JFP called him in that day to pinch-hit. Because really she had no else that reliable

Was he the original Edmund Q?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 11, 2019 12:38 AM |
R12 now David Lewis was the original Edward Q
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 11, 2019 12:42 AM |
Right R12. Thanks. I think I read the obit wrong. I go pretty far back with GH. David Lewis was the best! Remember when Tracy taunted him when he was having a heart attack on the Q stairs!

I thought that was Richard gere

JFP is most sincerely a real bitch!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 11, 2019 12:49 AM |
David Lewis was the best. Crusty old Edward. I used to love the crap he'd give Alan when he was having the affair (and then Jason) with Susan Moore. He was hysterical.

Handsome man!

Jed had a slew of great leading ladies and other soap divas as co-workers: Jada Rowland, Marla Adams, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Diedre Hall, Suzanne Rogers, Judith McConnell, Robin Mattson (twice!), Marj Dusay, Louise Sorel, Jane Elliott and Leslie Charleson. He even dressed up as Margaret Dumont for a Marx Brothers sketch on "Days of Our Lives". But my all-time favorite scene is this "Santa Barbara" clip with the legendary Dame Judith Anderson!

Agreeably, Jed was miscast as Edward, and it was sad that it wasn't David Lewis or John Ingle there to honor Anna Lee when they had Lila pass away in her sleep. But Jed did what he could during an awkward time, and was still commanding in spite of the fact he never had worked with Anna. C.C. Capwell certainly was a younger version of Edward, so it was not difficult for him to just jump right in, and he did work well with the cast. The Edward/Heather pairing was odd, mainly done to reunited Jed & Robin Mattson, and when Robin returned years later, she never got to share a scene with the ailing John Ingle who had returned. I thought Jed had great interactions with Jane Elliott as Tracy, and had they been together on "Days", they could have been an interesting romantic pairing. Interesting that John had gone over to "Days" to play Mickey Horton who was at one time Don Craig's best friend.

Aw, sad. He was always good at playing cads on old shows like Adam-12 back in the day. RIP.

He was a great soap leading man who had great chemistry with every woman DAYS teamed him with -- not just Deidre Hall, but also Susan Hayes, Suzanne Rogers and Gloria Loring. Dee has never again reached the same level of performance that she did opposite Jed.
Why, he even had chemistry with that bitch, Lassie!

Jed was handsome and virile looking, and not some hairless pretty boy underwear motel the soaps have been hiring for the past 2 decades. His type is sorely missed.

There's an extra in the "Golden Girls" episode where they throw Blanche a surprise birthday party who looks a lot like Jed. Every time I see this episode, I think of him.

It’s surprising that one of the other soaps didn’t snap him up after Santa Barbara was canceled. He was perfect as a soap patriarch. He would’ve been great as a recast Spencer Harrison in AW, they could have paired him with Rachel or Iris instead of Carl. Or a recast Mike Bauer on Guiding Light.

I had no idea he was 84, I would have thought a decade younger.

Anyone remember his guest starring role on Mary Tyler Moore as Rod Porter, the fill-in anchor when Ted goes on vacation? He was quite handsome back in the day.

He had heart problems as a kid and had at least one heart attack as an adult, so he lived a long life despite health problems.

Both Jed and Nicolas Coster played Paul Britton on "The Secret Storm", ironic considering their "Santa Barbara" rivalry. Watching early ep's of "SB" with all but Peter Mark Richman (who hated the show), I didn't think any of the C.C.'s matched Jed. Lloyd Bochner would have been commanding, but considering how funny he was on "Golden Girls" (two different roles), I don't think of Cecil Colby when I see him. (And his daughter would have been the ex-Liza Colby, another irony!)
