I hate Betty Draper

She was always the best thing about Mad Men.

Even her one night stand was Captain Awesome (from Chuck)

I would be about Gene's (Bobby and Sally's little brother) age and Betty was spot on.

She got some really good dick.

She was half-Jackie, half-Marilyn

I started the show liking her and feeling sorry for her. I ended the show glad she had cancer.

Betty was the most beautiful character even seen in a television show. Her S1 scene, shooting pigeons in her peignoir to the tune of "You Are My Special Angel", is possibly the greatest single scene in TV history. In the early, pre-divorce seasons, she was a realistically flawed but sympathetic character.

For some reason, Matt Weiner either hated the character or hated the actress and pretty much screwed her over in later seasons.

Weiner has major mommy issues and modeled Betty after his own cunty mother.

January Jones is no great actress, but she was very appealing on MM. The show definitely lost something when Don and Betty divorced and JJ's airtime was drastically reduced.

Most of the male actors on MM were really splendid (I know...MARY!), but the female actresses, save for Moss and the infrequently seen Allison Brie, were weak and left a lot to be desired.

I disagree about Christina Hendrinks. She was phenomenal in this scene and i remember it all these years later. Try not to cringe because they are frau and lesbians

I should think Betty would be a DL icon. She was definitely the most interesting and complex character on the show.

In X-Men, she's still Betty Draper, but with superpowers.

Why, Betty's such a dear. My only criticism is that she let her needy family push her around and emotionally blackmail her, and she was just too sweet to be able to push back and assert her identity.

I thought JJ was perfectly cast as Betty Draper. Whatever her acting abilities, she was spot on for the character.

I absolutely hated the Megan actress and can't believe we had to endure her and her teeth just because Matt Weiner had a crush on her.

I was surprised the scene in Last Man on Earth where JJ's character shoots dead Jon Hamm's character didn't get more buzz at the time. It was so unexpected and excellent wink to MM fans.

i liked her the first couple of seasons and then she became an ABSOLUTE BITCH - whining and complaining about EVERYTHING. Her role was the reason I stopped watching. For the time - JM&J woman - support your husband and STFU!!!

Christina Hendricks and January Jones were excellent in their Mad Men roles. Anyone who doubts that, really didn't understand the characters, and the way women of the time were treated/had to behave to get anywhere in life. Don was such a prick to Betty, played mind games with her day in day out, and a messy alcoholic who risked her sexual and emotional health endlessly.

R30, the problem is that she plays "Betty Draper" in everything she does. In other words, she's limited.

It was obvious that Jones and Hamm had such great chemistry together. I kind of felt sorry for the Megan actress because it was so obvious that she didn't have any chemistry with Hamm, so their relationship was never quite believable.

Face it, Dorothy, January Jones is limited.

I follow January on Instagram. MY god she truly is vapid, shallow, and quite simply- a bore.

Gorgeous, and she knows it. She has massive Botox- done expertly I might say. Not a wrinkle on her forehead. She has these huge eyes now, which she never had before. But it appears Botox related.

I think the medical term for that, R37, is "Nicole Kidman Face"

R38- January looks AWESOME though. Like a doll. Doesn't look freaky like Nicole can. I am amazed by her Botox Work. For real.

JJ wasn't anything like Betty Draper on LAST MAN ON EARTH.

The upside is that both January Jones and Jon Hamm should be available for the "Mad Men" reboot!

Something occurred to me that hadn't before, thanks to R41. It's been my experience that those really evil people never die. They outlive the kind people and it's not right. Betty could have beat cancer.

I thought it was interesting that Wiener planned to have the Betty character die from lung cancer from the very beginning of the series.

I am about Gene's age and Betty reminded me of many of the mothers in my home town which was right by the Drapers' Westchester suburb. The coldness. The narcissism. The liquor. The emotional emptiness. All of it rings true. Maybe JJ wasn't a great actress but she nailed Betty perfectly.

Too bad that Megan came along, as she was the worst character on the show. Betty was terrific as a villainess. Megan was just either a poorly written or a poorly acted caricature.

JJ isn't Meryl Streep but she's been different in other things.

She played Betty as she was directed to.....and nailed the shallow coldness of a 60s housewife, especially one with Betty's background.

Almost all the actors on the show were great, but Jessica Pare (Megan) and Matt W's son were terrible.

January Jones will be starring in a new series- she is filming now in Canada- She plays a cold and vindictive ice skating mom/coach or something- No lie!

It will be Betty Draper meets Tonya Harding -

And I agree with those above, she NAILED Betty. And it WAS a good performance, and she can act, even if her range is limited.

I liked the performances of all the actresses on MM and that includes Jessica Pare.

Some real gems in there. I absolutely LOVE Cara Buono’s oerformance. Maggie Siff as Rachel Mencken — phenomenal. Julie McNiven as Pete’s first secretary is great and I was sad when they didn’t take her with them to the new firm. Jessie Schram was fabulous as Pete’s LA realtor/lover. So many great performances.

She might have made a fairly decent Serena Joy.

Jessica Pare and Megan would've been ok in small doses, but Weiner let her devour the show, at the expense of JJ/Betty who IMO was much more interesting.

The character of Betty came off as what she was meant to a spoiled selfish and dysfunctional mean girl what ruined the character for me personally is when it became known that January Jones was an evil homewrecking bitch that was essentially playing herself.

Didn't the kid that played Bobby #2 say JJ was "mean" in an interview, lol. I recall the only person coming to her defense was John Slattery and even that was tepid.

Emma Frost was a major character in First Class. She was supposed to be in the sequel originally but they decided to kill her off rather than have JJ back on set. She was hated.

I saw her on Kelly and Michael a few years ago and she said she loves reality TV and loves the Housewives, all minus Atlanta cause they’re not her speed and too “aggressive and mean”. Kelly told her she’s missing the best one! After that I realized she isn’t self aware either.

There was a surplus of hate towards Betty at one point. Many of the people who fervently despised her didn't seem to understand that the character was meant to be frigid and unlikable, and was also a woman who grew up in a more repressed time. Then came the ridiculous over correction from many entertainment think pieces and commenters, many of them insisting that she was some sort of long suffering hero who was only a victim of Don and the era she lived in. The truth is women like Betty still very much exist, particularly in upper middle class suburban enclaves. Uptight, cunty, status obsessed. Though career and hobby wise, they are afforded more opportunities. The casting of January Jones was definitely a success and confirms my belief that technical acting ability isn't everything. Sometimes an otherwise mediocre actor with the right traits or demeanor can fit a role even better than a more technically gifted one.
