Planet Fitness- The Blockbuster Video of gyms

I just want to vent. This place is like Walmart. Like the website people of Walmart. I made this thread because of the equinox thread. I’ve been a member of equinox in 2010. I’ve used David Barton when I got a free 3 months in my gift bag at a Maxim Super Bowl party at Raleigh Hotel. I’ve been in bumfuck middle America since October helping my mom out. My choice of gym here is Golds, YMCA, or Plamet Fitness. I do planet fitness because it’s 10$ and I will cancel it - so I’m not going to get into any contract.

This is a gym for I can’t even describe, it’s like going to a nude beach- no one attracive. Potbellies, old, ugly, saggy tits, bad clothes, eccentric weirdos.

It’s layout, it’s purple and yellow machines. Is this a location for one of the 9th gates to hell. It’s torture pop music.

Yes I do use it, because a gym is a gym. And I’m advanced enough to take advantage of any fitness equipment. But all these potato looking people with no gym ettiquete ugghhgh. And the spray bottles for constantly cleaning the equipment. Ugghh

I could go on and on. . I’m sure a lot of the demographic that goes there is on here. I guess I’m an elitist prick. But I’m above this shitty blockbuster video looking chuck is cheese gym.

Pros- They have a filtered water system I can go there at 5am to avoid the potato people (mostly less potato’s) It’s a gym. That’s clean I guess

Cons- everything else

God I miss a south beach equinox. You truly get what you pay for

by Anonymousreply 59March 11, 2019 11:19 AM

Dear DL, I'm coming to you with this because I figured you'd know what to do. I'm at a random, "Planet Fitness" right now, doing some maintenance on lighting and this haughty little duchess in overpriced support hose/constriction leggings is giving me longing glares.

So I'm obviously going to have him tonight and I'm wondering how many "Pabst Blue Ribbon" is usually the standard for fake drunk fumbling? Should I get a six pack or more? Should I offer them in my truck or wait until we get to the trailer?

by Anonymousreply 1March 7, 2019 2:36 PM

You're borderline incoherent, OP.

And there's nothing wrong with someone trying to get rid of their pot belly, so please do shut up.

by Anonymousreply 2March 7, 2019 2:39 PM

[quote]And the spray bottles for constantly cleaning the equipment. Ugghh

So, you'd rather work out on sweaty equipment?

by Anonymousreply 3March 7, 2019 2:48 PM

R2 is correct.

You can't whinge about people being fat and out of shape in the most grotesque terms on one hand, as so many on DL do, and then complain about them when they do take steps to try to improve themselves on the other.

Stop being a cheap bitch and go to Golds, OP.

by Anonymousreply 4March 7, 2019 2:49 PM

So basically, ugly people in a gym make it a bad gym?

by Anonymousreply 5March 7, 2019 2:50 PM

Planet Fitness is kind of known for being a gym whose clientele is teenagers, the elderly, and people who are looking to lose weight rather than to build muscle (the potatoes you mentioned), so yeah, generally speaking, you aren't going to find the kind of guys you see at Equinox.

That being said, the only really valid complaint you made is the lack of gym etiquette. The rest is just you being a whiny baby.

by Anonymousreply 6March 7, 2019 3:07 PM

That's not what PF is known for. It's a place for people to go where they don't have to be laughed and judged by pretentious, posing gym rats. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 7March 7, 2019 3:58 PM

Personally I'm not a fan. After much pondering I figured out the solution. I don't go there. Those people have every right to their gym. Either accept it as is and quit bitching about things beyond your control or find another gym.

by Anonymousreply 8March 7, 2019 4:04 PM

NO JUDGEMENT ZONE asshole. At least they're working out.

by Anonymousreply 9March 7, 2019 6:11 PM

Why are all these out of shape people at the Gym???????

by Anonymousreply 10March 7, 2019 7:45 PM

Everything you said OP is exactly why I like it

by Anonymousreply 11March 7, 2019 7:47 PM

Uglies everywhere!

by Anonymousreply 12March 7, 2019 7:53 PM

Fortunately, he's 'advanced enough to take advantage of the equipment' despite the horrendous surroundings his poverty demands he endure. Be brave, daddy's wee soldier!

by Anonymousreply 13March 7, 2019 9:41 PM

Planet Fitness is for exactly what everyone is saying--people who feel out of place at traditional gyms.

They rely on a huge churn rate and charge lower prices as a result.

I'm curious if OP lost a bet and is being forced at gunpoint to work out there or why he remains if he does not like it.

by Anonymousreply 14March 7, 2019 9:52 PM

I went to one for a couple of years because it was the closest one to my house and was dirt cheap. Clean, comfortable, and the staff was nice. Lots of equipment and not too crowded except at peak of the peak times.

This particular one was frequented by a lot of cab drivers, though, who were just as terribly mannered at the gym as they are on the road. We're talking sitting on equipment talking on the their cell phones and then doing two or three quick reps to look like they belonged. I could never figure out why they went.

by Anonymousreply 15March 7, 2019 9:58 PM

Isn't Anytime fitness a place for the more serious to go? Less frills, smaller - ?

by Anonymousreply 16March 7, 2019 9:58 PM

I used to go to the pricey gyms where they hand you a towel when you come in and I’d spend at least 20 minutes in the steam/sauna as my post-workout “reward.” And was paying $80 per month.

But that’s when I was young and hot (enough.) Now I’m old (52) and don’t have the leisure time I used to have. Planet Fitness isn’t perfect but I get my 90 minutes three times a week and I’m spending ten dollars a month. Works for me!

by Anonymousreply 17March 7, 2019 9:58 PM

If you're paying $10 for a gym you have no right to complain about anything.

by Anonymousreply 18March 7, 2019 10:07 PM

Aren't they going to, share space with Kohl's?

by Anonymousreply 19March 7, 2019 10:10 PM

so much for "No judgement zone"

by Anonymousreply 20March 7, 2019 10:33 PM

Lol. I knew I was gonna get the don’t judge and it’s 10$ comments.. maybe I’m just frustrated with how out of shape and shape society is in these current Donald dump times. Planet fitness is def a Donald trump era gym

by Anonymousreply 21March 8, 2019 7:25 PM

Except Planet Fitness has been around since the early 90s...

by Anonymousreply 22March 10, 2019 2:38 PM

R17 have you gained weight or lost muscle tone since joining Planet Fitness?

by Anonymousreply 23March 10, 2019 2:42 PM

Meh. I don’t go to the gym. A waste of money and energy.

by Anonymousreply 24March 10, 2019 2:47 PM

R23, neither - they offer everything I need to stay in shape. I go 3x a week for about 90 minutes each time - use all the weight machines, treadmill for 30 minutes, 10 minutes on the elliptical, stretch and done.

by Anonymousreply 25March 10, 2019 2:47 PM

Whoever chose that color scheme should be shot. And what was the reasoning behind that could validate it?

by Anonymousreply 26March 10, 2019 2:49 PM

Some locations have pizza night. I disagree with much of OP’s post.

But if your gym has pizza night ....

by Anonymousreply 27March 10, 2019 2:55 PM

I'm considering joining Planet Fitness. I'm old and out of shape, and I like the idea of the "no judgment zone." I'd prefer a place with a pool, but PF sounds like a decent option until I get into better shape. How are their classes and/or their trainers?

by Anonymousreply 28March 10, 2019 4:47 PM

R21 yes everyone looked like a model with six pack abs under Obama.

Join a private gym or stop bitching

by Anonymousreply 29March 10, 2019 4:54 PM

Could be okay, R28.

[quote] This is a gym for I can’t even describe, it’s like going to a nude beach- no one attracive. Potbellies, old, ugly, saggy tits, bad clothes, eccentric weirdos.

How DARE they. Do they not realize the entire point of a gym is to provide you with eye candy?

by Anonymousreply 32March 10, 2019 5:03 PM

I think pizza night is tomorrow. I’m excited!

by Anonymousreply 33March 10, 2019 8:32 PM

Noooooooo missed pizza night! But Panera bagel Tuesday is on the 12! Which is great because I workout in the morning

by Anonymousreply 34March 10, 2019 8:35 PM

Yes—bagel Tuesdays.

by Anonymousreply 35March 10, 2019 9:11 PM

[quote]So basically, ugly people in a gym make it a bad gym?

FAT, ugly people because you see them for months and months and you see no difference in their physique.

by Anonymousreply 36March 10, 2019 9:14 PM

Yes R36, that’s why R25 is suspect.

by Anonymousreply 37March 10, 2019 9:22 PM

Lol. Agree r36. You feel progressive and also push harder at a gym like equinox. Slobs at planet fitness months on end is depressing

by Anonymousreply 38March 10, 2019 9:22 PM

If you don't like it, go!

by Anonymousreply 39March 10, 2019 9:24 PM

[quote]I do planet fitness because it’s 10$

Oh, dear!

[quote]It’s layout, it’s purple and yellow machines.

Oh, DEAR.

Perhaps before you worry about other people’s looks you should go back to school.

by Anonymousreply 40March 10, 2019 9:29 PM

OP: What kind of job do you have that you’re able to take off for 5 months. I guess since you’re in @bum fuck”, we can only guess that your home is on the east or west coast?

by Anonymousreply 41March 10, 2019 9:40 PM

I was reading some online reviews of PF, and a lot of people are complaining about their dress code. I didn't realize gyms would have a dress code. Is it for safety reasons or ???

by Anonymousreply 42March 10, 2019 10:11 PM

[quote]This is a gym for I can’t even describe, it’s like going to a nude beach- no one attracive. Potbellies, old, ugly, saggy tits, bad clothes, eccentric weirdos.

This describes the Planet Fitness I go to in CT but I can't complain since at 57 I would be under the category of old. To make it worse they bought out the competitor and closed them down so the gym is now packed. I used to be able to use a treadmill without someone next to me that smells like old B.O. or drowned themselves in perfume to cover the smell.

I think I've only seen only one person in the gym that I would describe as good looking. The rest of them are pushing the limits on their spandex.

by Anonymousreply 43March 10, 2019 10:45 PM

I pay 30 a month for LA Fitness and it's worth it. It's not super fancy but has a lot of equipment. I can go to any club in the nation, which is convenient when traveling. Lots of hot dudes as well but many of the gym bros camp out on the equipment so that can suck.

by Anonymousreply 44March 10, 2019 10:51 PM

I really don't get the "No judgement" thing. I have been a member of three gyms over the years in Phoenix. Hardcore to pretty light weight gyms. I personally have never seen someone get a hard time from being out of shape at any of these gyms. A matter of fact, I have seen very overweight people be supported and encouraged at times. I understand it's a comfort thing for the person, and I think PF fits a group of people that feel more comfortable in them. But making out like everyone is an asshole at a non PF gym is bullshit.

The EOS I went to in Phoenix was populated by muscle monstrosities. They were all very nice to smaller and out of shape people. The EOS I go to in PS now is the same. Very supportive and it has a wide range of clientele. I have not seen any judgement or trouble.

OP, maybe you can start a gym for your kind of people, Asshole Gym.

by Anonymousreply 45March 10, 2019 11:01 PM

I agree, R45. Way back as a new gym member, I thought I had no business in a gym, but I went with a friend who was a regular there. Honestly, the encouragement was huge and surprising.

It helped a lot.

by Anonymousreply 46March 10, 2019 11:04 PM

Im bicoastal. Miami and Las Vegas. Came home to help a family member recover from a procedure. I have my own businesss. I vacation all summer months. Im using planet fitness to cut. Im actually in prop the best shape I’ve been in with all the cardio I’ve been doing. I’m muscular. But never ripped. Now I’m getting ripped going to this shorty gym at 6am. One more month and the hell is over and I’ll be vacationing at the beach on the Pacific Ocean.

by Anonymousreply 47March 11, 2019 12:42 AM

Omg. R43. I had a bitch with the most rancid perfume on in the elliptical next to me. I had to cover my nostril. Who wears cheap assisting old lady perfume to a gym!

by Anonymousreply 48March 11, 2019 12:44 AM

*assaulting

by Anonymousreply 49March 11, 2019 12:45 AM

[quote]I really don't get the "No judgement" thing. I have been a member of three gyms over the years in Phoenix. Hardcore to pretty light weight gyms. I personally have never seen someone get a hard time from being out of shape at any of these gyms.

I’ve never been a member of Planet Fitness but I was a member of Lifetime Fitness and if I had a dime for every time I was a called a “f-ggot”, I could earn back my membership dues. But, yes, I know that if you’ve never been harassed in a gym then neither have I. I’m making it up. I know how that works—I’ve been told that too.

by Anonymousreply 50March 11, 2019 12:49 AM

I believe you r50. You should never be harassed. But you must be pretty flaming or wear something inappropriate to repeatedly unprovoked be called a faggot

by Anonymousreply 51March 11, 2019 12:52 AM

Yep^.

by Anonymousreply 52March 11, 2019 12:56 AM

Flamers ask for it.

by Anonymousreply 53March 11, 2019 12:57 AM

I joined/got a membership to my local recreation center. Not expensive, full facilities and a variety of ages, families, kids in the pool area, etc

Very nice atmosphere.

Stop complaining OP. You sound like an insufferable fool

by Anonymousreply 54March 11, 2019 12:58 AM

Pizza night? Do I have to join or can I be someone's guest for free pizza?

by Anonymousreply 55March 11, 2019 1:04 AM

Me, too, r54.

Rec center when I go is usually seniors doing PT, young HS guys for sports and an occasional Frau.

I don't really care. The equipment works, it's not crowded and I can hit it before work.

I'm there to lift weights, not preen and be seen.

by Anonymousreply 56March 11, 2019 1:17 AM

Well SMELL you!^

by Anonymousreply 57March 11, 2019 1:19 AM

This is stupid. I am a member: $10.00 a month, free personal training sessions, .4 miles from my house, open 24 hours, big fans so it's nice and cool, clean and fairly new. My location must be different cause the young fit people outnumber the other types. Unless you are a competitive body builder type it should suffice.

by Anonymousreply 58March 11, 2019 3:16 AM

[quote]I have my own businesss.

I hope you don’t run this business if it entails communicating with clients via email. You’re functionally illiterate.
