Alex Trebek has just been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but he will attempt to finish out this season of "Jeopardy!" ... TMZ has learned.

No matter what your age, if you have an overactive prostate that produces an excessive amount of the fluid that helps make up semen it is unhealthy to not purge it regularly. Granted much of the excess will be absorbed back into the body but that still leaves some of it to fester if it's not ejaculated. So pound that pud as much as you need to OP. If you're still able to have an active life and you're not giving up social or professional responsibilities just so you can stay home and choke your chicken then you're all good.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 6, 2019 9:55 PM |
F*cking Sucks. I know of ONE man who had unusual symptoms- I don't know, yellowing of the skin, or something random ( I'm not reporting it correctly), and his daughter told a friend who was a nurse who said, "Hmmm- have them check out his pancreas." He had good insurance, and lived near Mayo ( (Phoenix), and he's STILL ALIVE. That was 10 years ago. It's literally a God-damned Miracle.
I'm heart-sick about Trebek. They Seriously need to come up with some solutions for pancreatic CA. It's a monster.

Ok I'm crying at my desk at work. Damn it.
I worked on Jeopardy! for five years. Truth be told, Alex is kind of a jerk. Sort of a smarter Ted Baxter. I can tell you he did NOT like when Ken Jennings was having his run, simply because he didn't like having another person's name associated with the show. Alex could be kind of crude, and above it all. But always a professional.
And, even he was a sort of jerk, he's OUR jerk. I'm not a praying type, but I hope for a miracle.

I'm sorry I'm not above it all like you.

Some types of pancreatic cancer are slow-growing and treatable, like the kind Steve Jobs had (he tried to treat his with alternative quack medicine initially or he might have survived it.) It’s the Stage IV that’s ominous though, that means it’s already widespread and metastasized to other organs. That’s a terminal diagnosis.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 6, 2019 10:18 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 6, 2019 10:27 PM |
I watch him also on the game show networks, where he worked on innumerable different shows before "Jeopardy" usually the moustache back then. He was always very personable on screen, though I admit he kind of likes to editorialize and add a little (of his own) fun when announcing the categories. Plus it usually seemed interviewing contestants after the first break wasn't really his forte, even though he had been doing it for years. You could tell he took pains and pride in always pronouncing words, especially foreign words, in the clues impeccably and correctly. I just had a terrible tough (banish it) that they might choose that horrible bartender who overdoes jazz hands to replace him. But i'm sure that Alex has gone on record to make some suggestions who he would like to see as a future host. But he was thinking 3 years hence, and this is a terrible diagnosis unfortunately.

They need to develop a test for pancreatic cancer. It’s crazy there is basically nothing to be done until it is already spread to the liver and you start to have symptoms. One person I know had vague nausea for months and even went to get a scan - but they didn’t find it. 6 months later it was in his liver and they finally found it - too late.
Now that breast cancer has made so much progress, I wish there could be some attention paid to this. So many people have died of this recently. Some kind of detection processs - like mammograms - would be a huge step forward.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 6, 2019 10:33 PM |
[quote]I just *know* this cancer is going to get me, too. What are some risk factors?
Smoking, obesity and poor diet, and diabetes are the main controllable risk factors.
There is also a genetic component in many cases. It is more common in men, and the risk increases with age.

Keep in mind that breast cancer is MUCH more common than pancreatic cancer.
There will be about 271,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the US this year, versus about 56,000 new diagnoses of pancreatic cancer.

Dammit. This news hit me hard. I’ve been crying on and off for a few hours (ok, it’s other things piling on, too) and it’s really struck a chord. My parents watch jeopardy daily - they adore him - and I send them the funny things from alex’s Facebook page. Went to a taping of the show too, and it was cool, he takes all those goofy tourist questions from the audience with grace. I guess the news is shocking because it’s so dire and sudden and he’s such a healthy seeming guy. Same thing could have been said for the three other people I know who have died from pancreatic cancer. The pictures of health, beauty, success - ages only 40’s to 50’s. It also took my best friends mom at only 52 years old. I was closer to her than my own family. It’s so heartbreaking and scary, didn’t realize there were often no symptoms. I wondered. Ugh.

Two family members got it and died - 61 and 44. Neither smoked or drank. Regular check ups. I have a good chance of getting it - but there are no good detection methods. CT scan is the only way - and insurance won’t cover it (and it risks increasing cancer risk if done regularly).
I wish they could find some way to detect. Living with the constant threat and not being able to do anything about it sucks. I’m not saving for regiment because I know there is a good chance I won’t make it. And having seen the, die a slow and painful death, I know my last days will be ugly and horrific.

A close friend died from this. Both his parents died in their 90s, neither from any kind of cancer. My friend died less than a year after his diagnosis.
My friend was a health freak. He always watched what he ate, loved to walk, didn't drink, only a glass of wine we we all got to together for dinner monthly and he never smoked.
This awful illness seems to be hereditary, but not always. My friend had an uncle who died from the same disease. But so far, I haven't heard about anyone getting it or any other type of cancer.

R136 You can hate them all you want. I think no matter who it is, you wouldn't be happy. It's understandable. I think we can both agree that Alex is irreplaceable.
Someone that can handle the duties with gravitas and aplomb, with national name recognition will give the show a fighting chance. Who better than a TV news anchor? Who would you suggest?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 7, 2019 4:56 AM |
The two people I have known with it have had different first symptoms. One got terrible jaundice. Her skin turned yellowish orange. I was actually with the other one when she had her first symptom. We went out to eat and she excused herself after a few bites. I (months later) found out that she had gone to the restroom and vomited blackish bile. She never mentioned anything to me, because if she had, I would have driven her straight to the hospital. When she finally went, because of frequent vomiting, they did an xray and released her. No one bothered to tell her that the xray showed a large mass in her abdomen. She went home, aspirated vomit, developed pneumonia and ended up back in the hospital. Then they graciously saw fit to inform her that they accidentally failed to inform her that she had pancreatic cancer. By the time they exhibited these symptoms, these two were already in an advanced stage of the disease.
Some sort of early warning would be great, because people can live without a pancreas (they will be diabetic, but that's why God invented insulin). However, by the time symptoms come, it has nearly always spread to nearby organs and removal of the pancreas is more or less a futile gesture.

Seeing that video above of Bill Cullen brought back good memories. Cullen was big when I was growing up. Many people never knew (and still don't) that there was a good reason you never saw him walking anywhere. he was a Polio survivor and one of his legs was severely affected. I believe he had a complete leg bone fusion at some point in his life as so many Polio survivors did back then if their leg muscles were destroyed by the disease. It enabled them to stand and walk on the leg, but it wasn't a pretty sight. So any show he was on made sure he was already on his mark whenever the camera was aimed his way.

Colonial Penn Life Insurance preys on the elderly by charging high premiums for ridiculously low benefits. The sales pitch is focused on providing insurance for the beneficiaries funeral. In other words, selling the product to a poor person afraid of dying with a debt.
That Trebeck fronted this company for so many years is unfortunate. Trust me, his wife doesn’t own one of the policies that he extolled for decades.

R134 Gravitas? He was a GAME SHOW HOST.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | March 7, 2019 3:01 PM |
That can’t test for it R195. They can only find it by doing a CT scan - which no doctor or insurance company would do until there is a symptom - at which point it’s already spread to the liver. It’s almost impossible to detect early. Which is crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | March 7, 2019 3:02 PM |
Exactly R195. He should sue his doctors or his own ego for not getting annual checkups for years...

Anyone else remember him hosting Classic Concentration in the late 80s/early 90s?
by Anonymous | reply 199 | March 7, 2019 3:08 PM |
No check up would have caught it R198 / R195. There are rarely symptoms - and if there are, they need to do a CT scan of the pancreas specifically. Ultrasounds, blood tests, urine tests are all useless. Until it’s in your liver and the it’s too late.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | March 7, 2019 3:09 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 203 | March 7, 2019 3:30 PM |
R202/R203 - that is the only way to check for it. Paying out of pocket for a CT scan. Which is what I have to do on an annual basis.
R202 - it generally is only found at Stage 4 if you look at statistics. Unless they happen to scan your midsection for something else and discover it.

Intolerance to food is one of the symptoms; I remember reading that Patrick Swayze experienced this. After a few bites of food he would get nauseous and sick.
While I admire his public statement to "fight" this, I firmly believe that if there was ever a case for assisted suicide, this is one. Treatment is cruel, painful and futile. He is not debilitated now, and should have the freedom to do what he likes in the coming days, whether it is meeting privately with family and friends, going on a brief trip to some beloved place, or some other favorite pastime or ritual.
But at the time and place of his choosing, he should be able to take a prescribed dose of pills and exit peacefully and with dignity.

by Anonymous | reply 212 | March 7, 2019 5:08 PM |
Calm down, people. Unless there's a unique indication for it, yearly CT scans are worthless and the cumulative radiation you get from them actually is a carcinogen e.g. cancer-causing.

Access to health care has nothing to do with it. Little kids and teenagers die o cancer - leukemia, Hodgkins, brain tumors. Cancer permeates all demographics up and down the age scale. Fortunately this, the grimmest of all diagnoses, accounts for only about 7% of all cancer cases and 3% of all cancer deaths.
I used to be an IV nurse and gave chemo in the mid and late 80s back when many chemos were really, REALLY hard to tolerate and had immediate and devastating side effects. I remember a woman who woke up in the morning after her first administration and every hair on her head was left on her pillow. We used to wrap tourniquets around the scalp to try and minimize this but it didn't always help much.
Cancer to me has always seemed like an unseen finger that moves through the population, selecting people at random and saying, "You...you...you...." Yes, there are risk factors and hereditary factors, but in the main it's a real crapshoot.
At least now with the advent of things like PCA pumps and freer attitudes about pain management in terminal situations, at least some people don't have to die in agony. I can remember situations just like Shirley MacLaine's in TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, where patients were told they needed to wait another agonizing hour before it was "time" for their next shot. Thankfully I became the kind of nurse who was "free with the needle", meaning I'd draw up a little more Demerol of whatever any chance I got; if 50 mg was prescribed and we only had 100 mg vials on hand, I wasn't about to "waste" that extra 50.
I am long retired now, but why legal, planned, pain free end of life assistance has never been adopted by the health care community is a mystery to me. It does not violate the "first, do no harm" oath, in fact, it supports it in my view.

R212 reminds me of a couple I knew (online only) where the husband, in his late 30s, had a stroke and was severely disabled. His wife took care of him, and not long after he was able to come home she was diagnosed with cancer. She'd posted on her blog about upcoming tests and getting things together so she could get help for her husband when she couldn't do it, but the next day she was dead.
When talking about all this I heard stories from several people who said they knew someone who died within days of diagnosis, before the cancer was even staged and fully diagnosed.

R206, when my ex was diagnosed we were on an up cycle of our 20 year up/down relationship. His biggest complaint was constipation. I remember about 2 months before he died and we had just gone out for dinner. Greasy Fish & Chips at some hipster place near Ubisoft. We both loved it. Good haddock.
Later that night, around 1am he was up doing calethenics, I asked why, he said he was trying to get his meals to move through his digestive system. By 8 am he was puking and complaining about constipation , that the laxative hadn't worked.
I freaked. I thought he was having an appendicitis attack and a laxative can cause a burst and more seriously, peritonitis.
A few hours later we were told he had pancreatitis, and those great nurses were all relieved and joking around with us. They were all, "just a few more tests, and a scan, but you boys need to lay off the cocktails and French wine."
Two days later he was diagnosed. About two months later he was gone.

Yes, Thomas Roberts fits the bill perfectly, he has experience as both entertainment host and news journalist. Easy on the eyes, natural and appealing demeanor rand he's only 47 which would allow him a long tenure as host. Not being or coming across as a wannabe know-it-all, the anti-Alex Trebek, would make him perfect for the job. I don't think they should hire someone who's in same vein as Alex.

Aretha Franklin didn’t have standard pancreatic cancer - nor did Steve Jobs. Which is why they both lived so long. They had Neuroendocrine cancer which starts in the pancreas - but is a totally different type than standard pancreatic cancer that most people think of (which I’m assuming Trebek has).
Horrible reporting all around about both Aretha and Jobs - symbolic of the state of journalism that most articles made no distinction. Pancreatic cancer is quick and vicious. Neuroendocrine cancer that starts in the pancreas - even in Stage IV - can be treated for years potentially with a whole slew of new drugs developed in the past few years.
Both types lack any effective screening methods. We really need to focus $ and research on an early detection tests.

My 88-year old was dead within 3 months of her diagnosis. breast and colon cancers that have metastasized from a different origin. We've basically tamed breast cancer to a mere annoyance. We've pulled that off, we did. Same with colon cancer. Colon cancer has an organ route as it progresses. Cervical cancer, a kitten. Not ovarian cancer, though.
The origin of the cancer MUST BE CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED to take on this shrewish cunt.

Cancer diagnosis?
Straight to the supermarket/butcher for bovine neck bones. Get those bones with major marrow in center. You're gonna make a beef broth on the stove. Takes about 8 hours for a batch. The marrow in those bones will become gelatinous and eventually a liquid broth.
Egg shells. Right at the start. Egg shells simmering until the end, like 8 hours later. You can use a crock pot for this essential weapon. The recipe for the broth varies if German in origin or Mi'kmaq Indian. Both eggshells and bovine marrow. Garlic, carrots and parsley. Bouquet garni.
Let me go look up the handwritten cures of the German and Mi'kmaq recipes as they differ. Common denominator is bone marrow and eggshells.
Even if you make rice or pasta, you're not using water but this beef broth to cook it in.
You can rule the world on this broth. Get on this immediately. This is the go-to. Your fighting chance.
Literally a life saver

by Anonymous | reply 286 | March 8, 2019 4:31 AM |
Yes, but DL asks how we will middle class strain that pasta 😂
It's after midnight so we'll put in the request for the recipe in the morning for the Mi'kmaq magic. Even if we have to hit the chieftess twitter up in the Gaspé for this recipe, so be it. Someone will forward it. I know this particular chemistry includes seal blood and Inuit herbs for the broth. Moose bones and some porcupine quills thrown in there.
Even while enduring laps of chemo, there will be no need to add injections of Procrit when you build your blood cells with this broth. Rice dishes to eliminate "the runs" due to chemo will double duty if you prepare it using not water, but this broth. Skating through the later weeks of chemo (as the toxins intensify by 4th week of treatment) IS POSSIBLE with this broth.

Came back here to share a curious finding re: CANCER.
Cousin of mine from Rimouski (might as well be Jersey or Staten Island 😅) got hit with brain cancer. A certain type. My boss in QCity at the time mentioned "Oh, so when did she have breast cancer?" Well, we were never told but she did in fact survive breast cancer 20 years earlier. So this particular breast cancer when it returns moves into this particular brain cancer.
Floored! CANCER has a certain m.o. Had no idea about how cancer operates when it makes a comeback.
We all need to know this. Sly jackal, this bitch.

First round of chemo..go intense! Balls to the wall! Most likely never be in as good shape throughout therapy. Nip in the bud. Go for it! Bring it on while you can physically stand it. Fight this whore of a malady with gusto at first dawn. This really IS the approach.
The American Pilot approach. Straight up into that console!

[quote]Of course I know what I'm talking about,
No, you really don't. I was dx'ed with Stage 3b colon cancer 14 months ago; six months later, it progressed to Stage 4. In all statistical likelihood, I will die from it within the next few years, but even if I beat it, with a tally of 3 major surgeries, 2 minor surgeries, and 12 rounds of chemo and counting, it has proved itself much more than a "nuisance." It's a treatable cancer if caught early, but it's often asymptomatic until it's advanced, and it's on the rise among people in their 20s and 30s, too young to qualify for a routine colonoscopy. it's the second-leading cause of cancer deaths, after lung cancer.
Breast cancer, likewise, is highly treatable these days when caught in time, but remains the third-leading cause of cancer deaths, and I'm guessing the women who survive it consider it more than a nuisance to have one or both breasts whacked off, be thrown into medical menopause by tamoxifen, etc.
[quote]Floored! CANCER has a certain m.o. Had no idea about how cancer operates when it makes a comeback.
Anyone who's had cancer (and frankly, most people who don't live under rocks) know that every type of cancer has a route it tends to follow when metastasizing to other organs. This is not some big news flash you are sharing. BTW, if your cousin had breast cancer that later recurred in her brain, then she died from metastatic breast cancer, not brain cancer. And she probably thought it was a little worse than a nuisance.
You are ignorant and should stop talking shit all over this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | March 8, 2019 6:04 AM |
Michael Douglas and Valerie Harper were both given stage 4 death sentences like a decade ago and are still kickin' it.
Penny Marshall survived for years with lung cancer, which is probably the deadliest after pancreatic.
Bottom line: no one comes with an expiration date stamped on them, and losing hope will kill you as fast as anything.
Never give up.

by Anonymous | reply 306 | March 8, 2019 9:42 AM |
While I would say breast cancer has made the most progress, the metastasis is still an issue (though better prevented than before). I don’t see major colon cancer treatment improvements - but early detection has helped. In a lot,of ways, every cancer is different. There are lots of different types of breast cancer - some more virulent than others. Same with colon cancer.
The main fight with pancreatic cancer is an early detection test - the major roadblock to any improvement. Hopefully Trebek can help spur action. Like Katie Couric did with colon cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | March 8, 2019 10:45 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 308 | March 8, 2019 11:44 AM |
Everybody has potential cancer cells in their bodies. It's just the luck of the draw with each of us as to whether or not any of those cells are activated at some point in our lives. Clean, healthy living is in no way a guarantee that you'll never develop cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | March 8, 2019 11:52 AM |
These days a job like Trebek has is meant for a well known actor who has either outlived his TV/movie career, or a who is sick of acting and wants to spend the rest of his career in an easy gig raking in a boat load of money hosting a big time game show, so he can retire fabulously rich.

by Anonymous | reply 313 | March 8, 2019 1:01 PM |
I think the days of movie stars and well known primetime TV actors looking down on daytime TV gigs is on the wane. Who would have ever thought that someone on a daytime show could be raking in $47 million/year which is what they're paying Judy Sheindlin on Judge Judy. We're seeing more and more big time stars doing commercials now. Until fairly recently American TV/Movie stars would only do TV commercials in foreign markets because they were afraid it would ruin their star shine if they did such in the USA.

R199, Classic Concentration is running two episodes every day on Buzzr, with a block of reruns on the weekend.

by Anonymous | reply 315 | March 8, 2019 4:20 PM |
Trebek is fairly wooden in Concentration, R315. Amusing to watch as a period piece, but Trebek isn't at his best being conversational with the contestants. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching an aspie. He's better at playing a somewhat-removed professorial type.
He was more amusing in Double Dare, mostly for his appearance, where he looked like a disco Cossack.

The benefits are for final expenses, so the policies are designed to be low face value. Neil sucks.

I think it will be someone reasonably famous beyond existing Jeopardy fans to bring in a new audience. I think Conan O. would be a good choice the more I know about him. He's a Harvard grad, maybe even has advanced degrees. Anyway, I just read that he is going to be on stage in LA interviewing famous LBJ historian Robert Caro as part of a longtime series called "Writer's Bloc." So obviously he can do something where the primary intent is other than being a funny entertainer.

John Lithgow is a great suggestion.

Frankie Grandé.
Nah, just shittin' ya. I mean, can you fucking imagine…?
by Anonymous | reply 368 | March 11, 2019 2:46 AM |
Can Conan can play it straight and not try to get laugh? It would be so cringey otherwise.

Doesn't Neil dGT have some sexual misconduct claims pending at the moment? Unless that's been cleared up, he's not getting anywhere near the position.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | March 11, 2019 6:14 AM |
He does, r370, but regardless, the guy is an astrophysicist—kinda doubt he'd want to get anywhere near a job as game-show host, whether they wanted him or not. The people in here acting like hosting Jeopardy is some high-prestige position that someone would leave a serious career for are on crack.

Can't Ryan Seacrest handle another job?

Thomas Roberts' resume reads like a train schedule. Lots of varied entries but not for very long at each.

I would really enjoy watching John Lithgow r365, That's a suggest worth sending to the owners of Jeopardy. I think it's Sony Pictures in Culver City.

[quote]How could anyone even think of Will Ferrell?
Because he always does such a great job of hosting Celebrity Jeopardy! on SNL.
[quote]Doesn’t Lithgow spit when he talks?
I don't know about that, but he's got a teensy tiny little mouth that is very distracting to watch. Write to the Jeopardy! people and tell them not to consider him. Please.

Is his son Matthew gay? He seems to hang with this guy an awful lot. Btw, the guy is currently ranting in his instastories about how white gays are racist because they don't want to hang out with blacks.

[quote]I assume that he's going to be treated at one of the best cancer treatment centers like Sloan Kettering. He's got a lot of money and that buys him into many intervening therapies and clinical trials that could keep him alive and comfortable for a few years. Aretha Franklin was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and she lived 4 or 5 years and continued to tour until her last 6 months.
People on Medicaid can be treated at Sloan Kettering, you are clueless.
If the doctors and hospital accept your health insurance, you shouldn't have any problem being treated anywhere. In fact, most doctors LOVE accepting Medicaid, mostly because there are usually no refusals of payment.
My mom is on Medicare and a secondary insurance she pays for completely out of pocket, yet this past year, two of her longtime doctors have suddenly refused her secondary insurance which she's paid into for many years. While some doctors are now not even accepting Medicare!
For example, lots of doctors no longer accept United Healthcare and Blue Cross unless you have those insurance plans through Medicaid!

Alex is cured as of today. He's made a miraculous recovery and is expected back for a new season of Jeopardy in the fall!! He's in almost total remission, just 9% left of his cancer. There are miracles sometimes.

He's in near remission.
[quote] When Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer three months ago, fans were shocked. But now the beloved Trebek has good news to share: He’s in “near remission,” according to doctors. “It’s kind of mind-boggling,” the 78-year-old says, in PEOPLE’s new cover story. Although the cancer has a 9 percent survival rate, Trebek has been responding very well to chemotherapy. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”
by Anonymous | reply 407 | June 1, 2019 10:51 PM |
Now he’ll probably die in a freak skateboarding accident.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | June 1, 2019 10:53 PM |
I wonder if Alex is using cannabis on the down low. It is said to have cancer-fighting properties.

by Anonymous | reply 412 | June 4, 2019 12:13 AM |
He’s in remission. Apparently pancreatic cancer isn’t as fast and deadly as it was for Michael Landon and Patrick Swazey.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | June 4, 2019 8:38 PM |
I have never liked Trebek. His death cannot come too soon.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | June 4, 2019 8:56 PM |
I like and respect Alex, flaws and all. It's true that he's not dying gracefully. He's living gracefully and with dignity despite his health issues. I wish him well and I expect that he and the people who care about him will know when it's time to go.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | June 4, 2019 11:15 PM |
If the treatment Alex Trebek received had in fact his tumors shrunk, and is technically in remission, he may be fortunate enough to live 1-2 years. I don't see him going beyond that.
