How to not be a fat, fat Fatty McFatterson
1. Do a fast day (or two) - you need to get your body used to not eating and this will help. As a fatty, you probably have no idea what it feels like to be hungry. You need to sit with this feeling.
2. Get a prescription for Adderall, if you can. Instant appetite killer. If you can score some of this, you’re ahead of the game. Actually, Adderall helps with a variety of ills: depression, overeating, laziness, inattentiveness. A wonder drug.
3. Don’t drink calories. Water, black coffee, tea, and diet sodas are your friends.
4. Eat three ~400 calorie meals and two ~200 calorie snacks every day.
5. Start walking a lot. 3-4 miles per day.
Do these things and you’ll be thin in less than 6 months. Unless you’re morbidly obese. Then your only hope is lap band surgery.

Another helpful thing is motivational phrases and images. Hang a photo of yourself with “Shamu” written on in red marker. Put it on your bathroom mirror so you see it every morning.

You can only gain weight if you eat too much. Stop eating. Just stop.

Burn more, or at least as much, calories as you consume. But don't count calories, just make sure you live a more active lifestyle (walk more, do physical labor, workout, etc.).

R6, you burn very few calories from physical exercise. You have to stay at around 1200-1500 calories per day. People today don’t need more than that. The USDA that puts out that 2,000 calorie per day criteria has a vested interest in people eating too much.

Cellular respiration is the key to losing weight. Biochemically, cellular respiration is the reverse of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which CO2 and H2O are used to make sugars and starches.
During Cellular Respiration, sugar is broken down to CO2 and H2O, and in the process, ATP is made that can then be used for cellular work.
Cut down on the sugar and starches in your diet and the cells will release the sugar they have stored for energy.

Adderall is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It is also used as an athletic performance enhancer and cognitive enhancer, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant.

Detox on a regular basis. Your body works best when its ph level is taken care of. Get the toxins out and let go of a one sided diet (usually fast food and soda drinks). Go to the doctor and find out if your body has any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. If you have, you can consider using vitamin or mineral supplements or change your diet to get the necessary vitamins or minerals through food.

Another trick is drinking lots of ice water. Lowers your body temperature and causes you to burn more calories.
More thinspiration ideas:
- If you catch yourself walking too slowly during the day, repeat a phrase such as “Pick it up, lard ass!” until you get yourself moving.
- Look at your fat naked whale body in a full length mirror every morning and ask yourself “Would anyone want to get with that?”
- Write the words “No one wants to fuck a bucket of coagulated bacon grease!” in a notebook 10 times.
- Make a “Moo!” sound whenever you walk past a mirror.

[quote] you burn very few calories from physical exercise.
True, but exercising kills food cravings. So even though weight loss is mostly a question of reducing your calorie intake, exercise makes it easier TO reduce your intake. Plus it’s heart-healthy, elevates mood, enhances productivity etc etc.
Just find an activity you enjoy doing. Walking, biking, dancing a jig. And don’t use exercise as an excuse to pig out after, cuz you can eat all those expended calories right back in less than 5 mins.

Hasn't science just recently suggested/proven that diet and exercise are temporary solutions because each body is "programed" to metabolize or store fat differently?
There was a report about how the winners from The Biggest Loser regained much of the weight in spite of sticking to diet and exercise because their bodies "revert" after a while because they're programmed to want to hold onto the fat. It all gave me the impression that for some people weight loss - healthy weight loss - can only go so far.
These self-hating methods you guys are suggesting sound insane to me. Why punish yourself? Because you don't have abs? Because life isn't worth living if you aren't thin? Better to get addicted to pills and die early - WTF??
A far better idea is to find joy in some activities - square dancing or frisbee or swimming or cycling - and make them a part of your weekly life. And make it a social thing. Make friends to do these activities with. If the thought of doing these activities makes you smile, you'll stick with them. Hurling insults at yourself to shame yourself into weight loss with work only for so long. You'll end up binging and hating yourself and losing the will to try.
So 1) do activities that bring you joy, 2) give up this idea of being the next Chris Pratt, 3) stop self hating and 4) treasure the body you've got for what it can do, because it *is* beautiful.
My two cents.

The fat cells are always there, just waiting to reactivate when their human host decides to lose willpower and eat like a pig again. The only way to break the cycle of fat cells plumping up and collapsing with each go-yo weight loss, is to actually have them removed from the body. So that’s liposuction, or freezing, or lasers.
But for those who can’t afford that, and whose doctors are reluctant to prescribe Adderall, what’s the DL opinion on Weight Watchers? I’ve heard it’s one of the better eating plans out there because you can’t eat what you want as long as you eat a sensible portion and account for the calories in your daily budget.

That's not true, stop with the Frau Science from workout blogs. There is no scientific proof it does that, just lost of fatties looking to blame their fat on anything but their lack of self control. Reading a "Nutritionists" opinion on some mommy blog, does not equate to actual double blind clinical studies.
If you read the actual study, they point out that the little bit of weight gain SOME people experienced was do to the fact they were already very fat and used the calories they saved drinking a diet coke to splurge on other things like 3 extra doughnuts or a bowl of mac and cheese. Then blamed it on the soda.

That really doesn't work either. Everyone I know who had Lypo looks weird. They have big fat heads, double chins, saggy arms and a flat stomach. If you remove all the fat storing cells from your midsection, then it has to be stored somewhere else. And you cant lypo every part of your body.
Portion control with some exercise is the only way not to look like that.

Ah the lovely world of weight loss. I've been living it for the last three years. You try something and stick to it (say 5/2 diet) it works for a while and then you plateau. Then you add something (extra excercise) it works for a while and again you plateau. Then you try something else (low carbs) again it works but only for a while. In the end you find yourself trapped in this rigid routine of excercise, time restricted eating and calculating every bite you eat. I've gone from obese to nearly in the healthy weight range, but it's a total pain in the arse. I really wouldn't be bothered with it if it wasn't for the arthritic pain.
On the bright side I'm now in excellent cardio health, staved off diabetes and have a resting heart rate below 60bpm.

I lost 100 pounds doing the intermittent fasting. I weighed 200 pounds and I'm five feet tall. Yeah.
I weigh 100 now, and I might lose some more. I'm small-boned, so 100 pounds might even be too much.
But I'm living proof that it can be done. You do have to find a way to get comfortable with hunger, though. That was hard for me, as hunger pangs were something I never, ever ignored (which is why I was obese).
Also stopped drinking during that time, too, after 42 years of heavy, heavy imbibing.

Bullshit, a calorie is a calorie. If this were so you could simply feed diet soda to starving people or people in countries with food scarcity to decrease their food needs. that NEVER works.
Even yo-yo dieting, which does lower metabolism only lowers it to the tune of a max of 200 calories per months and that's after decades of yo-yo dieting. 200 calories is akin to eating one less candy bar a month and it's not even a pound a year ((3,500=pound))

Adderall was originally created as a weight loss drug, but it is addictive and I wouldn't use it for that purpose. It's a methamphetamine. Permanently changes your brain chemistry very quickly and from then on you may have to increase your dosage over time to have the same effects. It also has unpleasant side effects like dry mouth, sleep disruption, racing hearrbeat, can make you feel like talking compulsively a mile a minute, can leave you feeling physically stressed even though your mind feels oddly calmed. Be careful with that shit. It really is like meth or coke, it catches up to you in time.

I've lost 80 lbs. since September. Just cutting back (smaller portions) and eating more healthily. No program, pills, surgery. Oatmeal for breakfast every day. No beverages with calories (no alcohol, sweetened beverages, etc.). 30-calorie/cup almond milk for the oatmeal. No desserts except fruit (occasionally with a small portion of cheese or nut butter). 100-calorie or less yogurt for lunch most days. Lots of vegetables. I still need to lose around 100 lbs., but I hope to be there by this time next year.

[quote] You do have to find a way to get comfortable with hunger, though. That was hard for me, as hunger pangs were something I never, ever ignored (which is why I was obese).
I have recently tried a weekend of Intermittent Fasting for the first time, and I keep hitting the wall at around 12/13 hours.
It's ok when I can sleep in and ergo sleep through hunger. But working days while it's easy for me to stop eating at 8pm and not eat again until around 8-9am I find it so difficult and distracting to leave it any later or wait until lunchtime. Around the 13 hour mark I start getting emotionally agitated and obsessively think about food even if I'm not hungry, and at 14 hours I'm ready to punch someone. I've heard that womens' fasts should be shorter than mens' but is 12 hours too little?

carbs and sugar are the no no s and what keep people fat. Eliminate or cut those out and the weight will fall off. The problem is after people lose the weight they go back to eating regularly and the weight comes back on. Also, avoid diet sodas (and all sodas) like the plague.

R117, I'm the woman who wrote the sentence about getting comfortable with hunger. I don't want to be the obnoxious person who constantly writes about my experience, but it seems like you're struggling a bit, so may I share with you some tips I've learned?
When you do eat, really eat. Don't just pick at this and that - have a meal, and a good one. Reward your body for being so strong. I agree with the poster upthread regarding carbs. I decided that I could do without bread, pasta, and potatoes, but I love jasmine rice, so I eat it. If I want a donut, I have it. I view the fast this way: I'm going on a long journey and I'm not taking food with me, so I have to make sure to eat well beforehand. When I've ignored my own advice and haven't eaten sufficiently I get nauseous long before the 16-17 hours are up. I don't break my fast, but I do get sick, and that's the price I pay for not eating enough before starting the fast.
I was conditioned to eat at certain times, and giving that up was super difficult. I thought I had to eat breakfast in the morning and lunch at noon and don't even get me started on dinner. Like Pavlov's dog I was. But I stopped all that. I just rewrote every single bit of it, because none of it was working for me. Now the fasting is how I live, and I've learned to listen to my body.
I'll wrap up by saying that at 62 I'm about 100 pounds (maybe a little less), I have more energy than I know what to do with, and I've stopped drinking after 45 years of solid alcoholism. When I say I rewrote my life, I rewrote my fucking life.
Hang in there, R117. And I'm here if you need me.

Eat less, exercise more, mostly eat less.

Yes, R137, that's the truth. It was the "eat less" part which I could never get a handle on, and the intermittent fasting seems to be the answer to that (at least for me!)
by Anonymous | reply 138 | May 21, 2019 10:34 AM

Everyone in the know says "eat less" - that's what important to lose weight. I completely agree, but I wanted to exercise more too. Once you are able to compare what 600 calories on a treadmill or an elliptical affords you calorie wise..Its alot easier to pass that shit up. Your workouts begin to inform your diet decisions. They have to work in tandem. You can lose weight but if youre doing nothing to repair your cardio vascular system-- it's a bust, youre still not going to be healthy, just light headed and flabby with no energy. Exercise!!!

I also have nut milk in my green tea which probably isn’t helping my Buddha belly. Anyone manage to substitute these? (Please don’t say celery or rice cakes lmao)

R117, 12 hours isn't really fasting. You should be able to go 16 or 18 hours without eating. Perhaps this is not a viable option for you. If you limit yourself to 1200 calories a day with the goal to get 40% of them from carbs, 30% from protein and 30% from fat, you will lose weight.
My Fitness Pal has a free app that makes tracking very easy.

The diet beverages trigger your brain the same way that eating sweets does. You are more likely to end up eating sugary things in the long run if you keep tricking your brain that way.
Excessive diet sodas can also lead to insulin resistance due to this tricking of the brain as your body thinks you are eating sugar and releases unnecessary insulin which can wreak havoc over time
I have been doing the 18/6 style of intermittent fasting which has worked great. I consume about 1800 calories from 2-8 pm and only drink water and herbal tea over the waking parts of the other 18 hours. I don’t weigh myself, but I can tell you I’ve gone from a 48” waist to a 36” since last October and my arthritic knee & hip have both vastly improved

As someone who has tried a variety of diets and "lifestyle changes" (aka keto -- for a year), I can tell you that intermittent fasting (18/6) and a 1200 calorie diet have worked the best for me. Cutting out food groups is depressing. Last year when I was keto, it made me sad to go the whole summer without my favorite seasonal fruits.
I bought a food scale and eat a serving size of whatever I want. Today I had BBQ chips: 28 grams worth for 130 calories. I don't feel deprived this way. Some days are easier than others and it can sometimes be annoying to track every calorie but it's been worth it.

Also keep in mind that the 2,000 calorie per day model that is the basis of FDA nutrition information is skewed to an overweight/obese population. 2,000 calories a day for most people is excessive.

Even at 1200 calories per day my weight barely shifts. I've found I have to do very low carbs, intermittent fasting AND two 500 calorie days per week if I want to lose more than a few hundred grams. According to my fitbit I burn about 2400 calories a day, but no way I could eat that much and not gain weight.

I just did a day of IF and feel...different. Not lighter or fitter but sort of, floatier? And like my energy comes faster but is quicker to dissipate.
I got the 9-11 am pangs that R153 described in the morning but they were quite small rumblings that were easy to ignore with black coffee & paperwork. I actually felt more productive and upbeat having not eaten breakfast early in the morning, and I could appreciate my food more leaving it til noon. The only part I struggled with was the commute home; about 5pm I got dizzy and felt like I was gonna pass out (not good cuz I walk home). A mug of black tea and a banana + half a sandwich once I got home took care of it, but man. This is new to me so idk what to expect but is it normal?
I'm also not sure how many IF days is optimal to chain. I was initially going to go 'one day on, one day off' but a gym-nut friend told me that's pointless and I should do blocks of 3 or ideally 5 days in a row then eat when/however I want weekends. Could anyone give me some guidance please?

R155, even at the lower end a reasonably active adult male needs about 2,000 calories to sustain their body weight. At 1200 calories you're looking at something like 1.5 pounds a week, unless you're already really small, like I said.

R159 - It's a mystrey to me why I need to eat so little to lose weight (on the other hand I don't gain weight quickly either). But I weigh and measure my food out, I use the fitbit to track my energy expended and weigh myself daily. All I can think is years of shift work has messed my metabolism up and I usually only get four or five hours sleep. The last fortnight I've hit a plateau exactly 1 kilo above my healthy weight range. After three years of weight loss I know the best thing for me is to throw in some 500 calorie days to kinda beat those fat cells into submission.
R158 - Good luck and read around about IF. Personally I found if I put a bit of cream and and a teaspoon of MCT oil in my first coffee I stay in ketosis but don't get the hunger pangs and light head.

[quote]Not eating puts your body in fat storage mode.
r130, "Fat storage mode" has been discredited by the research, and even just considering the laws of thermodynamics should be totally suspect. If you're using energy (by being alive, or on top of that exercising) then that energy must come from somewhere, and that's what you eat and your fat stores. 'Not eating' can't trigger your body to suddenly become significantly more efficient with it's energy use--that would violate the law of conservation of energy!
