There’s been a suffocating Frauvalanch in the last 5 yrs that has taken all the humor, wit and edge away.

There are occassional meaty threads in the wilderness of faux frau fantasies.

But generally, the quality of offering has deteriorated.

Datalounge is a site where you can goof on gay men. If I see an awkward, lonely, friendless gay teenager on Instagram, I wonder to myself if Datalounge has started a thread to makes fun of him. There are pro-gay people here, however. Because everyone can start threads now (without paying) you will get a mix. The anti-gay, the pro-gay. The anti-Islam, the pro-Islam, etc. Threads about gay men getting bashed by Muslims get deleted, threads making fun of the lonely fat gay guy stay up. This site leans more towards the anti-gay though.

I would prefer more gay content and fewer threads about race to be completely honest.

I have some blind item gossip from friends with connections. And out gay married musician that talks about being monogamous but is having group sex with his husband and a reality star and his partner. A "hedonistic" gay celeb that talks a lot about the benifits of open/poly relationships is increasingly uncomfortable with his own setup. An out A-list director pays straight drug addict boys to piss on him (no sex involved). That's all I have to offer. It's hard to juicy stuff if you don't go to fire island or live in NY or LA. Or don't go to the same gym as Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper. That's why I rely on you guys

Yes, R37. I think there arw two types that post here and it looks like it’s all one monolitic group. Those types are the pro-gay and the anti-gay. The anti-gay out number the pro-gay here that’s why the trans and Muslim threads get grayed out and ultimately deleted. It takes a lot of FF’s to gray out and delete a thread. Some of us saw this coming at least a decade ago, and posted repeatedly about this: Datalounge scoop started waning when the site owners decided to make it discoverable via Google. PR flacks setting up Google screens for their clients began seeing our accurate insider gossip and complained until threads were shut down. Straights who weren't true allies discovered the site. High schoolers found the site via Google and descended on it in droves during spring, winter and summer breaks, making it so toxic the Webmaster had to shut the site down repeatedly (remember Primetime that lasted for days?).

Then Trolldar was implemented (replacing the much more effective original red-tagging), which destroyed true poster anonymity, and insiders started being harassed by the "That NEVER happened!!!!" posters and the ones demanding insiders PROVE their bona fides--essentially demanding insiders out themselves.

Re: the DL racial divide: We always had racist DLers like White Belt Man, but the 2007/2008 Democratic campaign brought out the truly ugly corrosive racism that had been more on the DL (pardon the pun) before the Hillary vs Obama slugfest. I don't think Datalounge ever recovered completely from 2008.

If you Google Datalounge along with some other thread topics which usually generate a lot of trolling, you'll see that we are linked to threads on certain subreddits, 4chan/8chan, various right-wing sites, etc. This board attracts swarms of interlopers who are here to stir shit, spread political propaganda, and troll instead of contributing anything related to the DL's proclaimed purpose (gossip, pointless bitchery, etc.)

Well, that TV local infotainment guy dying in a mask while being fisted with meth was pretty gossip-y. Nowadays we can easily see someone’s home life because of smartphone video & Facebook, so we saw that he had an adoring 9 year old daughter, which pretty much negated the thrill of seeing that the closet kills. The salaciousness was killed by the sadness for this poor kid who never did anything but love her father.

I'm going to take some exception to this, because trolls were ruining the site as badly as they are now, and trolldar stopped it. One of the biggest alleged gossip sources, the faux Keram Malicki Sanchez, was peddling fake tea and promoting himself all over the board to the point that some completely unrelated threads were ruined. We couldn't talk about anything. It was 24/7 "I think this is the real Keram! He knows everything!" and it overwhelmed the board. It was a mix of gullible, overexcited newbies and the fake Keram posting about himself.

Then trolldar came along and we discovered he was some old man crank who would lose his shit over antacid remedies and who used sockpuppets constantly. It also showed a couple of "beloved" authenticateds were their own fan club, and we discovered the new identities of people like White Belt Man who had tried to hide after being called out. It helped.

The problem with "this never happened" was completely unrelated to trolldar. It started out as teasing and then people went overboard, as they do, then the WM told us we'd all get permabanned if we ever said "this never happened" or "elaborate scenario troll" again. At that point, it became about flaunting the rules of DL, which has always been part of the DL experience; had there never been a rule, the trend might have died out the same way the Noodles stuff eventually died out.

The worst "this never happened" situation I saw was the Celebrity Caterer, who would provide BIs and then hints in the thread. Some fucking dipshits decided the hints were CC sockpuppets [bold] even though he was identifying himself as CC the whole time. [/bold] They harassed him and drove him off, and for months the gullible and the drama addicted insisted CC was "caught sockpuppeting." He wasn't.

Both things signaled a turning point in DL for me. We had lost the witty, intelligent posters and instead had trolls driving people off for fun, gullibles unable to tell the difference between a troll and actual gossip, and the beginnings of the now-common troll tactic of using multiple browsers.

This site has been incredibly boring lately. I think it’s all the election talk.
