Ryan Murphy Sets Next Netflix Series ‘Hollywood’ About Tinseltown’s Golden Age

“Hollywood” — my new Netflix show co-created with Ian Brennan — begins principal photography this summer. A love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown, this straight-to-series production will be my third show for Netflix and I couldn’t be more excited or proud about the work we are doing together. More to come…

Would be cool if its about the love affair between Cary Grant and Randolph Scott.

That's his third series for Netflix? Which are the first two and are they already released?

by Anonymousreply 2February 22, 2019 5:04 PM

Nurse Ratched and The Politician, r2. Those were set up as a co-production with Fox before his Netflix deal. I suppose this will be his first series under his Netflix deal.

Yay!

God what stereotypical eldergay bullshit. What's next, "Gay Gift Shop: the Series?"

Amazon's golden age of Hollywood series The Last Tycoon was a huge flop. Netflix must really be panicking now.

by Anonymousreply 6February 22, 2019 5:18 PM

I hope there’s something for Colton.

by Anonymousreply 7February 22, 2019 5:19 PM

The Last Tycoon was a flop? Too bad. I liked it.

Will Darren Criss worm his way into this? Though he doesnt look like any actor from that era. Or maybe they wont be based on real people.

by Anonymousreply 9February 22, 2019 5:32 PM

Darren Criss, Cody Fern and Finn Wittrock may all be in this. Ryan said that he's been "cooking something up for those three."

by Anonymousreply 10February 22, 2019 6:57 PM

I dont look at that trio and think of that era in Hollywood. I'd have thought they would do something a little grittier and not so glamorous. If this is the project that post for them was about.

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2019 7:05 PM

I think they'd be great for it, particularly Wittrock and Fern, both of whom have great bone structure.

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2019 7:09 PM

Gag, r11. I'm tired of "gritty" -- I need some escapism, so let's see Cary and Randy falling in love, Jean Harlow cavorting with William Powell and Busby Berkeley staging his grandiose musical numbers!

by Anonymousreply 13February 22, 2019 7:46 PM

R13 not saying I want another gritty show. I enjoy fantasy light hearted idealist stuff a lot but that's what I'd assume he'd put that trio in.

by Anonymousreply 14February 22, 2019 7:48 PM

I don’t have any doubt that it’ll be loosely based on Scotty Bowers, just different enough that they won’t have to pay him for it.
