Emily Blunt would be perfect, She is the 21st century version of Deborah Kerr.

by Anonymousreply 2February 21, 2019 4:55 PM

Victoria Pedretti who played Nell in HoHH will play the Governess.

The sequel "The Return of the Screw" was much better.

by Anonymousreply 4June 28, 2019 7:52 PM

Are they doing the same two episodes of content spread out to ten again?

by Anonymousreply 5June 28, 2019 7:55 PM

And they scored another horror series.

[quote]Netflix has put out an order for a new horror series from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, the creatives behind “The Haunting of Hill House.”

[quote]The seven-episode series, titled “Midnight Mass,” will follow an isolated island community which experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. Flanagan will direct and serve as an executive producer alongside Macy.

Oh please, this story has been made/remade so many times...

The Innocents is probably the best version, though there is a version from the late 90s (I think) starring Jodhi May which is pretty good too.

Why Deborah Kerr of course!

by Anonymousreply 8July 2, 2019 5:55 PM

At least the first series was a ghost story. Turn of the Screw is psychosexual drama.

Will they have copious sex scenes like the Brando-Beacham version?

by Anonymousreply 11July 16, 2019 12:59 AM

R11

The film you refer to (THE NIGHTCOMBERS ?) is a prequel.

by Anonymousreply 12July 16, 2019 1:20 AM

So is Netflix going to do an actual remake or a lame Homage with no actual relation to the original story, a la The Haunting of Hill House?

by Anonymousreply 13July 16, 2019 1:34 AM

There's also an upcoming feature film adaptation starring Finn Wolfhard as Miles, but I think that one's more of a loose adaptation, with the story transferred to the present day.

A black mermaid

The BBC adaptation with Michelle Dockery was disappointing.

by Anonymousreply 16July 16, 2019 3:16 AM

Michelle dockery is a bit unlikable

by Anonymousreply 17July 16, 2019 3:34 AM

Mike Flanagan is stealing all of Ryan Murphy's thunder at Netflix. He knows how to make a good horror anthology, with a good script and real scares.

by Anonymousreply 18July 16, 2019 4:16 AM

The Finn Wolfhard film's release was pushed back a whole year, btw, which doesn't exactly bode well.

by Anonymousreply 19July 16, 2019 6:34 AM

Henry Thomas is returning.

Rahul Kohli from iZombie is also going to be in this season.

Kate Siegel is also returning, but that's no surprise.

Michelle Dockery... Rhymes with STAR!

by Anonymousreply 22September 17, 2019 6:24 AM

There wasn't a single scare in Haunting of Hill House. It was largely successful due to the gimmick of "hidden ghosts" in various scenes, which the internet was obsessed with for about 10 days.

There was one great scene and a couple of good scenes and the rest was filler with Flanagan's Angie-lookalike wife being mediocre and cliche.

The car scene with the bickering sisters made me jump.

by Anonymousreply 24September 17, 2019 9:56 AM

Many people thought it was more sad than scary. I thought a few of the scenes with the kids were very suspenseful, and OJC did a good job of conveying real terror in his scenes at least. But I've read it described as "This Is Us but with ghosts," and that's pretty accurate. I still liked the family story.

by Anonymousreply 25September 18, 2019 7:33 PM

Haunting of Hill House was a family drama with supernatural elements.

by Anonymousreply 26September 18, 2019 7:36 PM

I agree, R26, but I enjoyed it for what it was.
