About 10 years ago, when I was at the Berkshire Hathaway meeting in Omaha (I worked for Warren Buffett), I was walking into a restaurant while she and Melencamp were walking out. (A lot of celebrities go to the BH meeting.) I literally gasped when I recognized her. Her face looked like a puffy patchwork quilt.

Coincidentally, I had the same reaction when I had a surprise encounter with Rachel Welch. She had the same patchwork face!

What she and crowe did wrong was deny their affair when journalists first reported it. Great way to piss off the media by lying to them when they tell the truth. Didn't help sell the adulterous affair to the public when they finally were honest.

Nobody owes the media the truth about their personal lives. WTF!

R47, then they should have made no comment. Lying to the press when they have proof is pure folly. That's a big part of why she got crucified, even though Quaid had had multiple extramarital affairs.

She did rom-coms for too damned long--even when she was trying to branch out to show she had dramatic skills (which she does not have) like When a Man Loves a Woman, she was still doing generic crap like Kate & Leopold when she was clearly ten years too old for the part. So the American public got sick of her.

She is now trying to do what her successor as queen of the rom-coms, Reese Witherspoon (who is a better actress and a much smarter human being, even if she is equally detestable and self-centered), did when her reign was over, which is to branch into production. But she's not having the same success.

I thought it was a good interview.

She sounds more down to earth than I previously thought. And it seems like she realized she got to ride the train about as far as it was going to go.

I also think she looked pretty decent in the photo. She's looked fucked up in other earlier photos but the work has settled.

In her defense Quaid was a raging cokehead and philanderer during their marriage. It was unfair that was her undoing.

She may have turned her back on Hollywood (and vice versa) but she has maintained the Hollywood standards: tightened skin; pumped lips; hair foofed-up to make it look thicker (youthful). Frankly, she looks ghastly (but tight!).

She's a limited actress and I've never really liked her.

It must have sucked knowing that all your peers are having plastic surgery and philandering too, but she just happened to have it poorly done (and in the case of the affair have it publicised). I think it's also safe to say there was some misogyny with the difference in treatment she got compared to Dennis Quaid and Russell Crowe.

Even YEARS later when she did the Jane Campion film 'In The Cut' critics criticised the film for its sexuality and didn't take her seriously. Basically they were all looking for any excuse to call her a whore... she was solid in the film which like most of Jane Campion's was well shot, artistic, and slightly abstract.

She couldn't really win. Either do the blockbuster romcoms (and she's done some great ones, like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, and French Kiss) that people love you for but not be taken seriously as an actress, or actually do those prestige dramas and be crucified for it anyway.

I'm not a massive fan or anything but I wish her the best, she's a smart woman and I could see her coming back in something Big Little Lies-esque.
